Why not correct it to be a fixed rating per class and remove its association with the armor altogether right here?

Because they don’t want you to run around PvP Faren-style?

Yes, but it doesnt help when people do it anyways. Not to mention they have the technology to default-look you anyways.

You have the worst of both worlds now, people run around naked knowingly, and people running around naked not knowing about the armor penalty. Arenanet incompetence strikes again.

Everytime you want to give Arenanet the benefit of the doubt for doing something, you really just can’t. This stuff is poor game design. There is absolutely no reason not to give a flat armor rating for each class, even if it meant there were nude people running around, at least they wouldn’t ruin games.

Now you get nude people running around, and ruining games by having low armor. Worst of both worlds.

This is a god awful solution. Rewards in PvP should have no monetary value at all. Let people unlock skins and minis.

Nothing about my suggestion would allow players to make money by pvping…

So you believe we should make pvpers pay large amounts of money and do heavy crafting to redeem their rewards…..but not give them a way to make money?

This thread is about how pvp player population is suffering as a result of poor rewards. If there were exclusive skins that were good enough to motivate more players to play more often that would solve the problem equally as well.

PvP players don’t need ascended items. They’d probably like it more if you let them unlock skins like you do in DotA more frequently than you can do it now

Something needs to be done about this issue, because its not only gimping the player who is naked, but its gimping the team.

Just give everyone flat armor in PvP based on their class already. It shouldn’t matter if they are wearing any armor or not.

I really don’t understand why only a few slots count in the first place. Either we need to wear armor in PvP or we don’t Anet, but make up your mind.

This so much.
I actually know why it only counts a few pieces of armor. I think it is to do with when you move a level 2 character straight into HotM. You can’t buy two of the six armor pieces, therefore, they don’t count for armor.

Its still entirely stupid and incompetent on Arenanet’s part though.

It’s just an overlooked item that’s been there since launch. Like not having a choice to visually disable our Aegis buff shield. I wouldn’t call it incompetent. Just annoying af.

Now, the removal soloQ would be your definitive ideal there.

It is incompetent though. At some point they would have realized ‘Oh, level 2 players can’t buy the head and shoulders, lets remove the armor rating from the head and shoulders and rebalance it across the 4 other pieces’. Why not correct it to be a fixed rating per class and remove its association with the armor altogether right here?

Reduce the team size to 4. This is going to solve a trifecta of problems.

1: This is going to be a band-aid solution for the time being for population. You’re going to get more games, 25% more. It also works pretty good for this whole duoQ thing we have going on. If you have two duoQ per side, its likely easier to communicate than another soloQ in the mix. Less ppl = easier to communicate is generally the case.

2: Team fights tend to get pretty hectic and hard to see when its a 3v3. In a team of 4, a 3v3 means at least 1 point is completely unguarded, and people are likely going to only go 2v2. Which is something the community has been wanting in the first place. By reducing the team size to 4, encounters will be less of a clusterkitten and more of a 2v2 affair. People will be encouraged to hold 3 points and have a person roaming for +1s. If the game is less clusterkitteny, new players will also get the grasp of things much easier than some of the instant melt zerg situations you get at low skill levels.

3: It’ll be much easier to balance the burst meta around. If the general encounter became 2v2 there will be an easier time understanding how damage is dealt because there just isn’t so much thrown around in the first place. There’d also be smaller chances of class stacking because the player numbers are smaller.

So these items are kinda geared around helping conquest improve to be a more legible game format for newer to mid ranged players. There’s really not too much affect on professional players because they’d just reform a meta to suit it, with the only downside being they’d have to cut someone from the permanent team. Conquest is a problem at lower levels because theres just not enough tutorial material to go around, and the game engine doesn’t really cater for clarity of visuals. If we reduce some of that by reducing the amount of players, you get to slow the game down slightly and let people process things better.

Even at a professional level, whenever you get a 4v4 or something, commentators have no kittening idea what is going anyways. The outcome becomes a bursty coin flip that is crap to watch and crap to experience.

I think Saiyan’s idea has legs. At the moment low to mid skill level players have NFI what their role in the match is. If we had say 4 set builds per class based around ‘assault, support, defense, roam’ then people can coordinate much better at the beginning of the game. Have nice icons above their heads so you can see what your team is generally doing. Allow these ‘set builds’ to make minor tweaks.

Dota 2 has a much higher skill ceiling, yet even low level players can have a general idea of what to do in a game, not to over-extend, etc, because the UI is good and there is a general idea of ‘classes’. Once players get better they break out of the preconceived class rules at their own pace.

If you compared low skill level players from other competitive games to gw2’s, you’d think the gw2 players are brainless.

BTW I use mine build just for example. Not that only mine builds use accuray sigil. Instead. But simply adding the sigil increases precision from 24 percent to 31 percent. with fury. without the sigil i’m guaranteed that on average 1 out 5 are crits. with 31 percent 1 out of 4 on average is atleast a hit. It gives me that extra pressure without me having to sacrifice anymore sustain by taking an rune that focuses on power. by me using soldier runes i have 4 condi cleanse+diamond skin. when i meet necros or condi heavy builds i can add even more condi cleanse. Bassically it actually has decent sustain to fight on point without having to blow through cooldowns or go obsidian flesh right of the bat. Something u don’t often see on builds used outside of auramancer in pvp.

what makes this a mine build? I was expecting an engi.

The raids need an easy "story mode"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Ramoth.9064

Ramoth.9064

There is a reason this thread keeps naturally reoccuring on both these forums and on Reddit.

  • A story mode would not detract from the difficulty of the experience in regular raid modes. Something you don’t see, experience or care to do does not impact what you are actually doing – common sense tells us that.
  • This would – most likely – not take away one second from the development of the regular mode or any other content in the game. We know this because of the inclusion of “challenge motes” in the last raid wing. They could have simply made the challenge encounters the baseline ones and used the motes for something people were actually asking for – story or training access (hopefully repeatable, but if not, that is at least a step in the right direction). Almost no raider I know likes the way the challenge motes work now – so why not use those resources on something people have actually been asking for?
  • (Almost) nobody is asking for the same rewards. Of course the more difficult encounters should offer greater rewards.

It is inevitable. They can only ignore these continual requests for so long before realizing they are just pushing people away (people that were once their biggest fans/financial supporters, in fact).

Ohoni and astralporing asked for the same rewards. Way back when.

EDIT: sorry my bad, you did say almost.

TorsoReaper — it would be argued, I think, that any third-party program or system that expedites an in-game process might be seen as giving a player an advantage over another. If two players are farming, and one is going through the process as intended, and taking XX amount of time, while the second is using a bot or macro that free them up to resume farming, isn’t there an inherant “advantage” in that time-saving system?

I don’t use an auto-clicker. I clicked 10,000 times 2 in Guild Wars (the original) to gain two titles. I did that because while using an auto-clicker would have cut the time I spent by a huge amount, I figured spending the time was part of earning the title.

Just my two cents.

And for the rest of the population who don’t find that healthy for their fingers? I don’t know why you insist on defending bad game design. I have 5 different gilded strong boxes and none of them stack, nor can I open all at once. You talk about things that are difficult and the team has priorities, sure, but I’d like to hope quality of life is quite high up there on the priorities front.

And as for difficulty, is it actually easier to have a million different boxes that give, pretty much, the same items? You can go on about us not knowing how difficult it is to program something all day, but if a process such as improving item management is really that difficult, isn’t the optimization of your coding the overarching issue?

Is it against Arenanet policies to actually admit these things are issues, and maybe even query the community for suggestions? Again, 5 gilded strongboxes. All unique.

Hands down got to be RIFLE! It’s not used by anyone except warrior and engineer (2/9 classes) and there are currently no meta builds in either sPVP, PvE, Raids, or WvW which use it.

Last time it was used was season 2 sPvP warrior gun flame build – now obsolete

Thief Rifle elite spec would of addressed this. Make Rifle Great again Anet FeelsBadMan

gotta love staff though everyone gets a staff – necro, thief, ranger, guardian, mesmer, elementalist, revenant, that’s 7/9 classes ggwp

It’s would have, not would of.

And if anyone should get a rifle it should be the mesmer.

Ramoth.9064

Because raids are just bad designed other forms of “dungeons” with just this time 10 instead of 5 people….

You follow just a trail and have to beat on the trail 3 bosses to get the reward..its exactly like a dungeon..nothing new.
When people asked for raids, they wanted something NEW and not warmed up old coffee with just increased number of players that can play it together.

Thats mainly the problem, why people complain about raids and especially because the raids are in that regard bad designed, because they favor specific class builds to the point, that they and just only they become so mandatory, that you need them, otherwise you will fail because of the lack of DPS and this braindead stupid timer in the background that forces you and your party to go for full DPS, otherwise you will fail because of the bosses becoming quickly too powerful so that they can one hit kill you….

Thats imo far far faaaar away from good game design in my opinion and absolutely not what I understand under a Raid.

For me is a Raid Game Content in an ever with each instance changing environment (Dungeon Crawler Style) that you play with like 20-50 people together so that you form a real Squad and not just only a larger groop, so that there is absolutely more than space enough, that you can take people from every class with you who wants to join your Raid Squad for the run that is then organized in like 2-10 Groups max
(2×10, or 4×5 or 10×5 or 5×10 people in regard how many peiople are maximum allowed to come into the Raid Section you want to play (part of the difficulty setting, so higher the difficulty, so lesser people may come with you, but so bigger are the rewards for everyone)

In a Raid you don’t fight just threee bosses and be done with it… in a raid you fight unendless hordes of monsters and bosses, that become very slowly tougher to beat, so deeper you get into dungeon. Goal of a Raid is it sinply to show who can get the deepest exploration of dungeon to even reach its end and beatign the final boss after countless of enemies, riddles, traps ,other bosses and so on on your way that are just there to make your way to the end harder.

Raids in my opinion should work also in GW2 like a combination of Dungeons and Fractals, where you have every now and theren in parts of the raids to handel some kind of negative room effects that make overcoming these parts of the raid challenging, not static negative effects that are everytime the same, but as of the nature of a randomized dungeon craweler, so shoudl be also these negative room effects everytime different.

Enemies you have to fight against, evrytiem different, as that will help the point, that raids won’t become too quick too boring, because its everytime the same….
Doing a raid hould feel to each participating player in the Raid Sqard, as if it would be everytime a completely new and different challenge, thats what i understand under a raid and not warmed up old coffee-dungeons with just static ways where you do everytime the same by beating 3 bosses to get your rewards
BOOOORING!!! and absolutely not creative, not what we really asked for, because I can’t remember myself that anyone here suggested by talking about Raids, that we want to have Dungeons 2.0

Another different form of how they coud have done Raids into GW2 is with a gameplay mechanic that includes also PvP elements, by adding again Factions by aaddign Faction Raids, where Raid Squads of different Factions fight agaisnt each other in a kind of WvW similar environment for the goal of “who kills more bosses and who loots more treasure chests over time x to declare, which faction won the raid” instead of this classical dungeon raid thing that they unneccessarely needed to link to the PvE lore/story… so that people find now in LW3 npcs which talk about persons and things, about which players have absolutely no clue about, as logn they haven’t played the raids – great job anet and alienating your player base by this dumb decision that makes your LW3 partwise now immersion breaking, despite yiu sayign, that peopel dont need to have to play the raids, to understand the LW3 story – yes thats right, but this doesn’t include all your npcs and what they are talking …/doh !!!

Whoudl I have been responsibl for Raids, I would completely redesign that stuff from scratch as it absolutely doesn’t fit to GW2, the stuff thats already there woudl i recycle and integrate into the lousy tiny start of LW3’s first episode to make it alot longer and in every aspect completed, instead of lettign it be such a switzer cheese full of design and lore holes that lets player which haven’t played the raids yet stand there sometimes with only ?‘s in their face, because sometims your’ missing the conections from what a npc is talking to the current LW3 episode, as logn you have not played the raids to understand about what the npc is talkign right now or referrign too..or you talk about things, as if you would have been there within the raid, despite you haven’t really done it ….and thats whats immersion breaking, when npc’s start to talk about unlayed eggs and assume you have done something in the past, when you haven’t done yet at all what the NPC is talking about… as if they would be some kind of backward-fortuneteller, who can read the past from just talking with you despite you seeign these npcs for your first time, and they talk with you, as if you woudl know them already your whole life!!! >.>

Nope, you can turn it as yiou want, raids were terribly implemenmted into this game and as a result of this, suffers now the living world content massively in its quality.
