Isn’t this item being added to the collection automatically on acquire anyway? Because if so, I don’t see a reason to keep it/buy it back.

Of course I also found it strange, when it was suddenly gone from my inventory…

Lich mechanics bypass bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

He wasn’t killing the mobs, and the mobs weren’t spawning, just stuck.

Nobody questioned that. The mobs are just not supposed to go everywhere. The Lich itself also stops following you at a specific point and resets back to its original position, so do the mobs. This happens with every mob in the game. They have a designated area where they are supposed to be, as soon as they reach the border of that area, they stop following.

The only bug that I once noticed at this spot was, that sometimes a skeleton would spawn and get stuck below the surface of that small cliff, where you can’t reach it. But since the Lich lets the skeletons “explode” with every ~3rd skill, that doesn’t matter.

We do it the normal way and it does indeed not take long. about 2-3 mins incl killing the stupid skels.
The reason most zergers fail it is it scales up horribly and uplevels are useless.

Nope, the main reason zergers fail is, when they are not enough people to facetank/outheal and kill the skels but are also incapable of dodging the “summon skeleton” skill the Lich performs. The scaling is just as it is supposed to be -> for every player who doesn’t dodge the summon, a “stupid” skeleton spawns. Add to this, that noone removes the boons (regeneration!) of the Lich, and there it is, your perfect fail.

That’s also why most players stack, because you will always have players who spawn tons of skeletons (be it due to not knowing the mechanics, trolling, you name it), so the natural counter to that is to make sure they spawn close to one another, so you can at least kill the adds as fast as possible.

And no, it’s NOT faster in a zerg. The fastest kills I’ve seen were 2-5 man.

It’s always the “quality” and not the quantity of players that decides the duration of the fight. It can go very fast in a good zerg. Of course in a small group of people where everyone knows what he/she is doing, it goes faster because noone spawns unnecessary skeletons and the Lich can not regenerate huge amounts of health. In such a group you also don’t need to stack to succeed.

Regardless of all this I would highly recommend removing any player names from screenshots, since naming and shaming of any sort is not allowed on the forums. Just report him/her ingame and attach your unedited screenshot.

Outfits randomly revert to original colors

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

Just to clarify, we’re not talking about oufits reverting to default when they are switched, which is not really a problem, but while they are still being worn.

Happens to me when I change maps. Everything was fine until I got the Hexed oufit using candy corn cobs; I haven’t experienced a problem with the Hexed outfit itself, but I then purchased the noble outfit from the gemstore and it just won’t retain the colours I set it to. Every time I wp the oufit has reverted to default colours

^This. It’s a bit difficult to explain an I can see I wasn’t clear in my previous post…

When I choose a new outfit and dye it, it keeps the colours until I WP/change map/reload the character in any other way. Then it resets to default.

When I dye the outfit again after that reset, it keeps it’s colours. And that always happens after I switch to a different outfit – it just doesn’t keep its colour on the first dye attempt. So it’s not about the normal reset to default when switching the outfit, but about not retaining the colours after dyeing it.

I still don’t know why people spend so much time on the lich, you get quadruple the bags from just zerging around the middle area, the mobs respawn so fast there.

It doesn’t take much time. Soloing it takes about 3-5 minutes, depending on class and performance. In a zerg it takes even less. When I “lead” (= tagging up and running in circles xD) on that map, I normally go there when all the other doors are gone to pass the time until the doors respawn.

Lich mechanics bypass bug

Rayti.6531

So, to sum that up.

Someone was calling you noobs and you decided to attempt grief play by dragging mobs to him (in order to kill him I presume) and now you are complaining here, that it didn’t work?

The “leashing” of mobs (mobs only following you to a specific point and then resetting and running back where they are supposed to be) has been introduced to prevent exactly that (among some other things)…

Also: What do you mean by bugging? (serious question)

I only know that people stack in a corner so they can kill the mobs faster, because then they spawn closer together instead of all over the map. That’s no bug, that’s common sense…
If you know what skills to dodge, there aren’t even any mobs (the summon can be dodged) – also no bug there.

Is there any other method I’m not aware of?

Is the maize balm rat farm an exploit?

Rayti.6531

^this

@TheBlackLeech.9360
It’s not the loot generated by the item, that people in this thread consider an exploit. It’s the “workaround” used to replay the instance over and over again in order to have about 30 ambient creatures at once in little time to convert to candy corn elementals instead of the wider spread farms outside the instance, where you even have trouble finding a spot to convert 3 creatures with one throw. It generates an advantage over those, who already have finished the instance as intended and rewards those who abuse it.

If the instance was replayable without any “workarounds”, this would be a different story. Then it would be just another “faster/more efficient farm”.

Rayti.6531

Thank you for discussing it in a reasonable manner, Rayti…

No reason not to do so, is there?

I don’t really have a problem with them allowing a precursor as input. It is after all of exotic quality. There are many examples of items having worth above what its quality suggests it should be.

Furthermore, there are two very simple ways to avoid having this happen to you:

1) Bank the precursor
2) Look at the items you are putting in the forge. The item avatar for Dusk is quite unique, and is only used for Dusk and Naegling I believe.

You’re definitely right about that. I just think that making things foolproof in the first place by defining a precursor as a different rarity, not allowing it as input with other exotics, a confirmation window, etc. definitely would be less effort than refunding all the mistakenly destroyed/forged/whatever precursors (or even just reading through the tickets and evaluate whether to refund them or not). It would be a time saver for the support team. And that’s always a good thing, with all the more pressing issues they certainly have to deal with.

I hope he does for his sake as well, regardless of my opposition to it being a legit support issue.

That’s nice to hear/read.

Just responding in kind to the dude on his high horse.

I don’t blame you for sending in a ticket. I would too of course if I somehow managed to find myself in the same situation. What happened sucks big time. Just not convinced this should be a legitimate support issue…

Well, I think about it this way: The game mechanics allow a precursor as input for the MF together with other exotics, what – in my opinion – shouldn’t be the case in the first place.

There have been similar cases where people got a refund for losing items because of strange game mechanics. Items with less value than a precursor that some of us don’t even get in over 4000 hours of gameplay… So I guess the legitimacy of those support issues can/should only be evaluated case by case, and definitely not by us but only by the support team.

I for my part think the OP should get his precursor back and hope he does. But you definitely are also entitled to your opinion.

Linen farm: create endless mobs, kill mobs, get loot.
Ambient farm: create endless mobs, kill mobs, get loot.

Linen farm: some players don’t want want to farm linen. Farmers do this for them and sell on TP. People pay market price.
Ambient farm: some players don’t want/can no longer farm ambients. Farmers do this for them, and sell results on TP. People pay market price.

Linen farm: mass bans.
Ambient farm: Dev-approved.

???

I was thinking exactly the same thing when I read the red post. This is exactly the same thing and was also what I compared this ambient creature farm to in another thread, where people wanted to know whether this could be an exploit or not…

I really wonder how we are supposed to tell what is considered an exploit and what isn’t when the definition seems to change every few weeks/months or so.

actually not a exploit since u get hit with diminishing return.

So did the ones farming linen in Iron Marches while exploiting infinite mob spawns, and this was also officially considered an exploit and many were banned for it… DR has nothing to do with it.

I’d rather be on the safe side and just not farm in the instance. It’s just “too good to be true” – which is the only official measurement we have for “exploit or not”…

Rayti.6531

What about if you use it in the open world? And not use an instance at all? !

That seems to be the intentional use of the balm. I highly doubt that the trick-or-treat bags dropping from the elementals were not intentional – hence the time gate on crafting the balm.

It’s just circumventing the game mechanics in order to repeat and farm an instance infinitely that could make it an exploit. We will never know unless we get an official response though…

I would also be careful with that.

I can imagine they added the ambient creatures as a little bait for trying out the balm. But for sure they don’t want you to generate profit from thin air by failing/logging out early in an otherwise unrepeatable instance to farm them all over again. This has “exploit” written all over it.

Inventory Window changing size alone

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Yep, happened to me too shortly after the “fix”. I normally have my inventory size set in a way, that it shows all bags (maximum bag slots), where each 20 slot bag fits in one row.

It resized again, but only slightly so that a 20 slot bag doesn’t show in one row but in 2 rows, 19 slots in the first, 1 slot in the 2nd.

I didn’t have the “mini inventory” though since the patch. In case this bug occurs again, I’ll post about it here.

The main reason why I carry that gun around is for force feeding people without foodbuff in WvW and Edge of the Mists or as cheap buff while killing map bosses… So removing it would devalue the gun (at least to me or others who use it like that) a lot…

But a fix is needed, no question about that.

Since I didn’t have the time to comment in detail on the survey yesterday, I would like to add some thoughts on it now. Something that came to my mind while filling out the questionnaire and what I think should be taken into consideration.

Judging by the first few questions in the survey, you are assuming throughout the whole survey, that the person doing it plays the game for some kind of escapism or even attaches a whole personality with hobbies, favourite food/colour/holidays etc. to the character. The latter is even a premise for the rest of the survey to work.

For some people however, playing a game is a hobby like any other. Something they do when they get home from work instead of telly time or reading a book, because they like the control over the story (instead of getting it presented with a fixed outcome like in a book or a film) or even just because they enjoy the art of the game and get inspired by it (see all the fanart existing for different online games). These are just examples, there are many more reasons why someone could play a game…

So in my opinion a short question about the motiviation to play a game at the beginning of the survey would have been helpful, a kind of filter question for the rest of the survey.

The main reason for that is, that in case of a person who treats playing a game just like any other hobby, trying to find a connection between the personality of the character and the player’s ideal self is like looking for a connection between a fishing rod’s personality and a fisherman’s ideal self (ok, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit to make my point)…

For those players, a character in a game is a tool to move around in it and interact with the virtual world and play through the game’s story, enjoy the art, compete in PvP environments (e-sports) etc. If you let those people do the whole survey, they could easily falsify the results you gain from the survey.

This happens when the cast of Dragon’s Tooth is interrupted either by the caster him-/herself (e.g. dodging too early while casting it) or an enemy player (knock down/back, blind, stun, etc.).

The only thing being “bugged” about that is the fact, that the whole animation is still playing after an interrupt and therefore it creates the illusion of the skill not doing dmg without any apparent reason.

Then again, I see no way of the animation being interrupted too, apart from the dragon’s tooth unrealistically disappearing while falling down… shrugs

New Player Experience Bugs - Multiple Characters

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Rayti.6531

Hey, everyone. We’ve discovered a number of issues related to the new player experience, both bugs and things that are not working as intended, for players who have multiple characters. we are working on fixes for both.

I hope this also includes this huge arrow that shows above my (lvl 80) character’s healing skill everytime she is low on health (regardless of the compass/tutorial settings).

It get’s kinda annoying over time, because – believe it or not:

  • I know how to heal after more than 2 years of playing this game
  • I can decide for myself when I want to use my healing skill AND
  • I definitely don’t see a reason for an arrow indicating I should use my healing skill while it is on CD

Apart from the unnecessary hand-holding aspect, this arrow distracts a lot from what else is happening on screen, because the eyes focus on it on reflex (the arrow is sliding from mid screen to the healing skill and jumps on it -> impossible to not look at it).

Why can't I make my asura look sexy?

in Asura

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

Well, I don’t know about “sexy” but I think my Asura at least looks female enough – even with her new – not so female – haircut.

It’s easy to look female-ish in light armor. Now try medium armor, 98% of the stuff are clipping and look like cr@p. Too bad I just don’t enjoy the light armor professions… : (

I know that medium armor can be very limiting with all those coats… But this is a general problem not just on Asura but spread over all races (with the respective complaints spread all over the forums). I’m glad that Asura don’t have the famous human t3 armor though…

There are some medium sets that look quite nice, but the estimate with 98% not looking good at all seems to be very accurate… I’m currently not at home, so I can’t play with my wardrobe and mix sets right now – so I have to rely on other sources…

One of the nicer sets could be the vigil set, just as an example:
http://www.gw2armor.com/asura/female/vigil/medium/display_looks.php

The cultural T2 also doesn’t look too bad in my opinion:
http://www.gw2armor.com/asura/female/c2/medium/display_looks.php

That really isn’t much… Acually the rest looks just all the same to me… I think the key for a feminine look lies in the face (or even more importantly: in the eyes, since with medium armor you often have masks covering half of your face)… Other than that you really just can make the headpiece invisble to not look like any other random male Asura…

I have to admit, I get the “is this a female or a male Asura” question a lot. But this is mainly from people who are not familiar with the gender specific facial options on Asura (not counting the new ones where there sadly is no difference indeed) and want to know how to reproduce a similar face.

Since Asura are very childlike, especially the female ones when using the eye-size slider to its full potential, I don’t think I would want any “sexy” armor for Asura. Not on my own char, but also not running around all over Tyria.

It would be nice to either
1.) use the normal helmet underwater (the stats, runes, etc.) and just have the breather skin enabled underwater (but please the fixed skins that don’t randomly change the texture of some of your armor set parts) or
2.) be able to craft higher tier breathers.

I know that’s a so called “first world problem”. But this rare breather among my ascended set bothers me, as well as the missing 6th rune bonus…

Also, I’m one of the strange people who enjoy the underwater environment even though the combat isn’t balanced (I totally agree with the changes they did to PvP and WvW). I think diving has its place in the game and there are definitely beautiful diving spots to explore.

Asura T3 Light Armor Coat with Epaulets?

in Asura

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

Unfortunately the whole light T3 is glitched, they really should do something about it.

They did try once… they had to revert the change because it totally screwed up people who liked their looks, and it changed the helm and some other stuff that shouldn’t have been touched.

Mostly, what they did back then was giving the bugged male skin to female Asura, because people (female Asura) complained about the shoulders not showing. So female Asura got huge ear flaps and heavy stretching/clipping issues.

The female skin doesn’t have the clipping and stretching, so they would just need to add a bug fixed shoulder to the female skin and then give the fixed combo to male asura too. But the problem with that would be, that male Asura are already used to the big ear flaps. So they would most likely complain about the new look…

See the attached screens (old screens from back then when they “fixed” the issue) for a direct comparison between the 2 gender specific skins (left: female; right: male). The third sceen also shows the stretching and clipping issues the male version still has. Sorry for the strange lables in the pictures. That’s how I labeled them back then when I complained about the changes.

However I don’t see a reason to use it for salvaging until 1.) one of the above happens (even though I’m not sure I will be online for salvaging anything then) or 2.) they adjust the salvage price…

Hey, they could even add sprockets per salvage (just kiddin’, we all know what the reaction of the community to that pick was).

ill tell you why:

1) SAB is zerg free. No “press 1 to win”, no champion boxes, so players tried it the first time and when they saw what it is all about, most of them skipped it the second time. Why would someone spend time on it when he can go back to his zerging fests right?

2) Too challenging. Players got a bit frustrated and quit.

look anet, this is the kind of players you want to have, good luck~

3) because if we wanted to play an 8-bit platforming game we could just dig round in our attic/closet and pull out games purchased for just that purpose.

4) Or maybe just because at the same time World 2 has been released, ascended weapons have also been introduced. So people were trying to get those and were busy with different tasks like logging, mining, doing JPs and dungeons for fragments, playing the TP etc. just to be among the first ones to have the currently highest tier… (multi tasking huh…?)

I’m already curious how to get the plant we can feed our bloodstone dust to. Will it be a finished side product to the backpiece, or is there anything we have to do with that side product, like a recipe for upgrading it?

Well, Hey Sis!

I’d have felt more impact if they’d have used a voice actor who sounded like a hardened soldier, not something from Sesame Street. I was glad she died for that reason.

Not every soldier needs to be a generic, gruff space marine.

Yes, but choosing the same voice actor for Taimi and Belinda was kinda… strange. So I see GuzziHero’s point…

Still, my character felt sorry for Marjory and so did I – even if it was just a bit. And I guess that was the intention behind it. We didn’t know Belinda enough to actually mourn her.

Oh I so hope that the SAB will come back during the LS break… I just caught myself listening to the “8-bit” soundtrack of the SAB on soundcloud – that’s definitely a sign that I NEED the SAB – right now!

I know Josh was busy with the Dry Top map and all, but still… Maybe, just maybe… I mean the SAB team consists of devs split from other teams, right…? Maybe there was still a bit time for SAB developmemt… keeping my fingers crossed Ö.Ö

reflection disparity

Ever since the several nerfs to projectile blocks and reflects (WvW siege and such), it’s difficult to tell which projectiles can be blocked and which of them can’t (apart from inofficial lists, trial and error, common knowledge).

The Ice Wurms in Frostgorge could be blocked for a very long time, and then from one patch to the next, the projectiles couldn’t be blocked any more.

What the OP is asking for is a symbol in the boon bar of the bosses (or anything similar) indicating in advance if you should even bother trying to block or reflect. Given the randomness of “can be blocked” and “can not be blocked” that’s not a bad idea after all.

It’s not intuitive to find out what can be reflected, if some projectiles of the same type can be blocked while others can’t… (Or like in the case of the Ice Wurms, it’s being changed over time for some reason).
