Why the weird new hairstyles?

I’m still waiting for some Mohawk variations or side cuts for (female) Asura… Just some hairstyles that don’t look like wigs… Asura are not exactly known for their fancy girly hair and not everyone wants to design their character as that stereotype doll face…

Currently my normal Mohawk must suffice… But I saw some very nice suggestions in the archive:

Megaserver by language, make it happen!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Rayti.6531

How is it xenophobia to expect English on an American made game playing on a server hosted in America?

You do realize there are NA servers and EU servers, the latter being located in gasp Germany. Ohhhhh the irony…

Just food for thought for you, who thinks the language spoken on the servers should be tied to where the servers are located/the game is hosted

EDIT: +1 to Ranva.8024 for an early morning laugh

EDIT2:
To be on topic here. I’m against a server split by language. The map population would be terrible for some language groups/minorities. Another problem would be the implementation. If they split servers by client language, I would be selected for an English server while my mother tongue as an Austrian is German. That’s how they implemented the chat filter before, and it lead to many problems when ANet first enabled it by default. Most people couldn’t even see the chat lines of players from their own country, just because some of us prefer the original voice acting and language of the game over any other kind of synchronization…

Also there are people who enjoy an international community. I deliberately moved to an international server pre megaserver patch. To me it is enriching to meet people from all over Europe and pick up some vocabulary in the process…

So I wouldn’t want them to take that away from me just because some players don’t want to communicate in English or simply can’t. If they really made a server split though, it shouldn’t be automated but with players actually selecting what language group they want to play with/in (including an option “international” – similar to what the servers were before). Maybe that way the map population could be held up high enough, with the possibility for “minorities” to merge into international servers to not end up on empty maps…

Game ping compared to google ping.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

The first 3 replies are correct, it needs to be the same server to show this kind of issue. However, ping over 2k is obviously a problem with the game. I mean, if you were on a server that is on the other side of the world you would have <300 ping even if you had just a decent connection

There is an issue with server connections regardless of whether the image provided is solid proof or not just because of how high the ping is.

I have also experienced the ping issue. Typically I have 50-80 ping in GW2, but lately it spikes over 1,000 and sometimes sits around 120-150 for no reason.

No, that’s not true…

The problem could very likely hardware related. Last fall I had a modem that was the reason for me dropping packets constantly and spiking up to 7000-13000 ms ping sometimes.

If the problem was the game itself then quite obviously everyone would be suffering which is not the case.

There are many people suffering from lag quite recently. The problem is existent and I’m glad I’m currently not affected by it. The only thing I noticed was a severe chat delay yesterday evening between 7pm and 10pm (GMT+2)…

However, just because “not all players are suffering” that doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem. It could be one specific route to the ANet servers causing this, and everyone using that route, would be affected. That wouldn’t be the first time btw.

as i said in an earlier post, buyers remorse is a thing, if you bought something that you don’t like that’s not the devs fault. you bought a convenience item of your own volition and did not think of the consequences of your actions in the long run. I bought the bath outfit and wings like everyone else and i regret spending that money, do i deserve a refund? no, i bought them i have to suffer for my actions.

The difference is people like the infinite coin , they just can’t use it. That’s not the player’s fault no matter how I look at it.

I was just thinking the same thing. I like the coin and I didn’t even buy it for convenience but to support a piece of content I loved and wanted to see further developed, well aware of the fact that I won’t be able to use it for some time, but assuming after those first 2 releases and the gap inbetween them that there will be some use for it in the future – with a similar gap inbetween which was strongly indicated… So I guess I was thinking about the consequences.

That’s not even remotely comparable to buying a skin I will probably never use just for the sake of having it and then regretting my purchase afterwards…

Self-style hair kit woes

This happens to me too every now and then when using my permanent self-style hair kit. Using a tonic, relogging, map change or basically everything that forces your char to be newly rendered should fix it.

There are many strange things with rendering of chars, skill effects and legendary effects going on that should really be looked into…

Kind of makes me sad to read through Josh’s posts

Yeah me too… I posted in that thread back then to assure him and the rest of the team that their work is appreciated, but I doubt they ever saw that post between all the complaints…

It must have been really demotivating to read throught this thread for the devs involved… I totally understand the delay in releasing a new world and that they probably also work on improvements in world 2 (they probably want to get it “right” this time)… Doesn’t change I want the SAB back though

I just hope when World 3 is released the TM weapons actually look (deepish) red and not like a pinkish color.

Who said that W3 weapons will be red?

Josh Foreman said so in a thread that must have been removed. The wiki references it.

Yeah the original thread which had a TON of back and forth with Josh has long since been removed. That behavior was seen as a stain on anet’s reputation because it made the complete and utter lack of real communication from every other dev look even worse.

And communication was actually worse then than it is now, if you can believe it.

Fear not, for I’ve found the post informing about the weapon skin colours:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/sab-bts/Finally-dagger-skins/page/2#post2730102

Also, the thread with all the “back and forth” is also still in existence, just moved to the archive:

Since this thread contains quite some ranting by now, I thought I’d just give feedback/my opinion on SAB in general and reasons why I think it should come back.

  • In my opinion it was one of the most interesting instances with the best reward model in the game (lucky drops + token system + special skins for challenging content)
  • The fact you could choose between 3 difficulty modes was a nice addition to make it accessible for everyone while also providing a challenge for those who seek it
  • The scaling of the instance depending on number of players enables people to either play through it solo or with friends (even more fun if you have voice chat on and struggle through Tribulation Mode)
  • There were checkpoints spread throughout the levels, especially before challenging passages – again making the instance accessible to different types of players
  • The level and enemy design was superb, hinting to “classic” games many of us know from our childhood (given you were already around in that “classic era”)
  • It teaches jumping skills (and dodging) which can be very helpful outside the SAB in different game modes – without the player even noticing that he/she is being taught. I can only speak for myself but I sucked at JPs before SAB and now am very good at it – also, when I see a place that looks like it could possibily be climbed I can’t resist
  • It contains some interesting puzzles and hidden rooms for those who like exploring
  • The “chiptunes” (World 1 and World 2)
  • The progression regarding weapons and tools keeps the levels interesting even after the first play-through and encourages exploration (see above – hidden rooms)
  • High replay value due to: fun, achievements, tribulation mode, experimenting with skills, finding shortcuts, the many skins you can unlock + probably other rewards you can get through baubles…

I’m sure I forgot some points up there (feel free to make additions), but it should be clear by now that for me and many others the SAB was a very positive and interesting experience. I think that the positive points overshine the few negative ones (like some bugs and limitations by the engine).

Also regarding “permanent addition” of the box and people “soon losing interest” or “not all players like the SAB”… Well, this could be said about every single game mode and content in the game.

Not everyone likes WvW like I do, yet it’s in the game. Not everyone likes PvP, yet it’s there…

Also, noone’s doing the same thing all over again while still enjoying it or being overly excited about the content he/she is grinding. Be it running the same dungeon all over again or doing the same JP all over again – it will get “old” sooner or later. I’m sure most of us do different things every now and then to keep things interesting…

The SAB being available permanently would add one more “thing you could do while being online” for those who enjoy it, which wouldn’t affect those who don’t in any way. And this is a good thing considering we are currently waiting for an expansion…

So please ANet, in case any of you reads this, just reenable the SAB (with or without a new world being added doesn’t matter). I don’t want a refund for my ICC, I just want to use it and enjoy this instance you created in many hours of work…

Rayti.6531

I’d definitely pay for being able to use my spinal blades to glide… Ö.Ö

But since this would require the whole animation to change, I won’t hold my breath for it xD

Actually… no.

I tested the feathered wings when gliding, and I noticed a few things.

When you glide, your backpack disappears. The glider appears, and it’s about the same size as if the feathered wings were spread, more or less. Finally, the glider wings don’t really move.

If they want to make things like the wings or spinal backpacks (I’d assume only the full versions) turn into gliders, they don’t need to animate them. Rather, when the glider appears it uses a model based on the backpack you’re using. If the backpack skin you’re wearing isn’t one of the special ones, it just uses the generic model. Otherwise, though, there’s no need to add flapping or anything.

Yeah, that’s true. I wasn’t very clear what I meant with changing animations… As far as I remember, the Asura character animation while gliding makes them spread their arms a lot, which – at least in my opinion – wouldn’t fit with the spinal blades as glider and probably would even result in some clipping with the blades…

I’ll see if I can find a screenshot from the trailer (or make one myself) and edit it in.

EDIT: Not the most beautiful screen, but here’s what I mean. Seeing it in this screen it probably won’t clip, but still look kinda… well… strange… xD

I don’t need any special animation of the backpack (since you mentioned flapping and such), but I wouldn’t say no if they added a similar backpack/jetpack animation to the one of Scarlet’s Assault Knights in flight…

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/5/5b/Legendary_Blue_Dynamic_Assault_Knight.jpg

However, if they pulled it off somehow to replace the default glider skin with Spinal Blades and other available wing backpacks, I’d definitely be the first to throw money at my screen

I definitely will sooner or later (I guess sooner), thanks for the recommendations

Still, since I like earning things – be it points, titles or skins – this HoM bug leaves a sour taste. I hope they’ll find a solution soon, or at least give us a small update on the progress…

That part of my motivation is currently gone with this bug around… I guess I will wait with the purchase until I know this has been fixed, since currently it isn’t even possible to use the HoM…

Revenant gear unlocked in account wardrobe?

I somehow don’t believe that a roll back would be worth the effort. This armor seems to be the same as other starter armor (except for the fact it looks about 100x better) and doesn’t give you any advantage other than blinding your foes with your epic looks…

I just can’t see them analyzing a problem like that while still in the middle of bug fixes like the HoM one… But I could be wrong about that ofc, especially if it isn’t a starter armor at all…

My guess is they deleted items on purpose. And why not ban them? Honest players would

1. not put these skins on their items
2. report they have unlocked skins by accident from beta

Instead we see some player on screenshot clearly taking advantage over that bug, and in this case deserves a ban in my opinion.

ad 1. whoever that is probably tested out whether the skins only seem to be unlocked or they can actually be applied to armor – regardless of the intention though: there is no benefit to applying a skin to an armor…
ad 2. since you don’t get an “unlocked” notification for starter armor, most players who have unlocked the skin might not have noticed it.

On a side note: I’m really glad this game isn’t being policed based on your opinion but with some actual rule sets behind it…

Wtf.. Fix that joke

Lots of bugs in this last patch. I guess that’s one more.

At least this one seems to be easier to fix. Track people that had access to beta and if they unlocked skins rollback account and ban them for exploiting. This is not a HoM bug where (by mistake) i unlocked it myself, they did it on purpose and deserve to be punished for being “loyal” in this case. Loyal exploit deservers a loyal ban

I wouldn’t hand out bans like that, since you can unlock skins without even intending to do so.

I took part in the beta stress test and there was no way of intentionally unlocking skins (at least not using the standard methods). Normally, as soon as you equip a weapon/armor, the skin gets unlocked automatically, the right click option was disabled though.

I only played Revenant in the stress test, but didn’t get the armor skin. I heard of many who unlocked the Mistforged weapons though, since these were the weapons automatically provided for all other classes. Strange…

Revenant (or ele) and weapon swap

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

Because you could easily use it for combos before a fight as you stay OOC as long as you don’t hit an enemy

You can manually change weapons before a fight to stack 25 might actually. Just rightclicking weapons from inventory. And it’s not so hard to learn this

Do you see people doing this in sPvP? No, because that’d be broken as kitten.

If they had access to weapon swap OOC, they can do it in sPvP…which will be broken as kitten.

If PvP is your only concern in this regard, then I’d suggest to deactivate the weapon swap in PvP (maybe the same restrictions as with trait swap). I’m looking for a QoL change that only works out of combat, not for an unfair advantage in PvP… And I’m sure I’m not entirely alone with this intention.

To me as an ele who swaps weapons rather frequently it’s just annoying to:

1.) waste 2 inventory slots for weapons other classes can carry in their H panel
2.) to search for my off-hand weapon in said inventory while trying to swap weapons during a dungeon run (depending on situation) or in WvW, while being hit by some mob that decided “now is the time to strike – she only has main-hand equipped!”
3.) generally to have to open my inventory which is infected with a nasty resizing bug that shifts everything everytime I want to swap my weapon.
4.) to block my view while doing so (I carry multiple armor and weapon stat combos with me, so max size inventory is the way to go for me)

In my opinion they can even deactivate the sigil stacks as soon as I swap my weapon, I don’t care about that.

It’s just sad that the main argument against QoL changes like this seems to always be “but you already have 4 elements/20 weapon skills”.

Yes we do, and this mechanic already has several pay-offs attached to it, (the stacking sigils are just another addition to that list of pay-offs, where again everyone said “yeah, but 20 weapon skills”).

This mechanic (be it engie kits or ele attunements) however has nothing to do with an out of combat weapon swap, especially not if it doesn’t give any advantage at all except for the weapons being stored in a different window and making the weapon swap easier. ANet just needs to take care of how to implement it and how to restrict it. And I guess that’s the main reason why this change hasn’t happened yet.

No increase stack, no increase duration … GG anet, once again nerf what dont need to be nerf. Kill build diversity, way to go. Now every DD player will run 00266

There is always 02066 and 20066, but those are crippled by having minor traits that don’t actually exist.

Even if this were 10 stacks aoe(so it functioned as it did before) it still would see very little use (as it did before). Eles without 6 in water have very little cleanse, while those with 6 in water have all the cleanse in the world. Just another case of having almost necessary traits for most situations, and having a bunch of incredibly sub-par and unviable traits all over the place.

with -40 food and ER, cleansing should not be a problem if u do not go 6.

Same goes for those who have chosen Diamond Skin (to not even get the conditions in the first place) and/or wield S/F, which also provide cleanse. There are many ways to circumvent conditions without 6 in water.

But I think his point was, that some trait lines generally hold more useful/nearly must have traits that can be used with many builds while other trait lines hold very sub-par traits that never see any improvement and are therefore not even used in the first place – which generally messes a lot with build diversity… But maybe I got that wrong.

I think the main problem is with its AOE, if you use it with its full potential, it’s 5 stacks of stability on quite a short cooldown in master trait… I think it could be too strong if it would be 10 stacks…

1 Stack on 5 people on a short CD (when you only switch to earth for the sole purpose of maximizing stability and have 6 in Arcane that is). I use the trait a bit differently and run a build that only has 2 points in Arcane, but I get your point.

But yeah, that needs to be taken into consideration. In a group of 5 Eles all with this trait, that would be OP. In case ANet tried to rebalance the trait, they would either need to treat the personal stability differently from the shared stack (e.g. give 1 stack to nearby allies and 3 to yourself or something), or maybe even remove the AoE effect entirely… Good point, didn’t think about that at first.

I understand, but this is obviously a supposed nerf to stability, it was just too powerful especially in large scale fights, so it’s not likely to change…

As I said, it needed a nerf. I fully agree and overall am happy that they finally implemented it.

But even a nerf needs to be adjusted depending on game mode so that it is equally nerfed. It clearly makes a huge difference if 5 people are spiking you with CC (sPvP) or if 50+ are doing the same (WvW). That’s more or less the short version of my wall of text – I buried the point I was trying to make very well xD

But we will see how things will develop over time. I think it’s maybe too early to say anything and I’m just being too negative. But this one specific trait definitely lost all usefulness to me.

Did rock solid trait remain untouched?

from patch notes:

“All instances of stability not listed in these release notes will remain at one stack.”

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-March-16-2015

it was quite a nerf for everything not listed in patch notes, other skills have so many stacks it’s not even important to have them, maybe in WvW in zerg, but it wont change them in SPvP

That’s the problem though. There are other game modes besides SPvP… The changes are problematic for WvW/PvE – in other words, everywhere. where CC spikes due to large scale fights are present.

With the 2 seconds of Stability Rock Solid provided, you could at least stomp someone while under high pressure of more than one player, if you timed your attunement switches right. You could push through gates or up into the lord room of a tower.

Now you get stuck with the fist CC that hits you. While stomping, that CC often already comes from the downed player him/herself, which strips your stability so that his/her “friends” can lock you down and prevent the stomp. I’m sure in a coordinated guild fight it will be impossible to stomp anyone since there will be called CC spikes focussing anyone trying to stomp, so that also the 10 stacks of e.g. Armor of Earth will go poof. So we will have to cleave down every enemy or even pop invulnerability skills to stomp…

In case of choke points, you now get stuck on the first guard/ele wall, static field, whatever hits you first and get stuck inbetween 2 CC walls if you are totally out of luck. So there will be no way around using other Stability skills. You won’t even be able to push through with Tornado since you only get 1 stack every 3 seconds…

Also in PvE (e.g. SW where there is lots of knock down/back going on) 2s Stability were enough to at least escape a group of Teragriff charging you, without blowing any other CDs. Now you can’t even escape one charge of them, since to my knowledge the CC procs more than once (could be mistaken there, didn’t test this yet).

Don’t get me wrong, I think the stability change was needed desperately to change the meta. I just think this will need some tweaking/balancing between different game modes. You can’t just treat stability the same way in different game modes where there is a different amount of CC sources.

I used to very much like this trait…it was strong, had a lot of counterplay opportunities, and was close to having a “build” using it. I sometimes even brought it to secure a heal/stomp/res. Now…ded trait, will not even consider it.

Same here. I used it to cover my Ether Renewal, Ice Bow 4, safe stomp, pushing through gates. That doesn’t work anymore in its current state. I think if there is no intention to change the amount of stacks, it could as well be added to a minor trait and be done with it… There are too many other viable trait options to justify using Rock Solid anymore.

I don’t see a problem with jump dodge/dodge jump since everyone can do it.

Pressing V+Space with your thumb isn’t exactly difficult. Also the additional distance you cover is minimal (dodge jump = same as jump+swiftness) and only relevant in some situations. That bit of extra distance is hardly the reason your AoE misses. There are many skills that are meant to be used paired with CC because otherwise people can literally walk out of that AoE untouched.

I for my part started dodge jumping in SAB tribulation mode because I needed it for one jump and haven’t stopped doing it since. I’m used to it and do it automatically now. I know of many people who started doing that for the same reason, or even before SAB, so it’s not just “lately”.

Sad to hear/read that. I’d already planned my first person view trip to the SW JP… Oh, well…

Wish you luck that everything goes according to plan after QA had another look at the changes

It only gives the skillpoint once per character. Its only purpose after that is to charge quartz crystals there on a daily basis.

I hope they spend their precious time on better things, not that 8bit-ish sab thing.
It was horrible, and didn’t fit gw2’s concept. It’s a whole seperate game, as an april 1 joke it was nice, but it has ended and should not go further. They should spend their time for real gw2. Also as an achievement hunter I felt myself obligated to play it for achievements, and didn’t have any fun.

I’m quite sure that can be said about every single piece of content that one is not the target group of.

E.g. I didn’t like grinding Dragon Ball for achievements, but know that many others enjoyed the game. I can’t remember me asking for it to be removed. It was me, and me alone, who forced myself to go in there.

If you don’t like the SAB, nobody but yourself is forcing you to go in. If it were to be added again, it wouldn’t affect your experience in any way (if you decided to stay out that is).

I for my part hope we will get it back soon. I’m currently listening to the SAB soundtrack again on soundcloud – that could be interpreted as signs of withdrawal…

[Suggestion] Toggle Outfit Keybind

Remember the “Toggle Town Clothes” keybind back then when we still had town clothes?

I was wondering if it were possible to get this keybind back, but instead with the functionality to toggle the currently selected outfit.

It would also be very nice to get the old town clothes (the casual looking set that we got as a tonic when the wardrobe has been introduced) as an outfit instead. (If it were possible to select a headpiece for this outfit from the existing wardrobe, this would be even better – I loved my town clothes together with the Aviator Glasses… One can still dream, right?)

Sorry if this has already been suggested elsewhere, but I couldn’t find such a topic using the “search feature”.

That’s all I could find… But these pics are the same as those on the wiki page (and the gallery at the bottom of it).

Please fix my bolt

I have a similar problem with my Incinerators too, since Wintersday. After I cast a few skills, the flame effect around my character’s arms disappears. It seems to happen after the flame effect has been “covered” in other effects (like skill effects, AoE, auras etc.).

Here is a video demonstrating it. I spammed my skills a bit in the video to reproduce it on demand:

http://youtu.be/CFKgJ1qhSx0

This problem persists since Wintersday and could probably be connected to the recent AoE rendering problems and the priority which effects are rendered and which of them are not…

However, please fix this. It is rather annoying to lose half of the cosmetic effects of a weapon you worked on for such a long time for mostly cosmetic reasons.

EDIT: As additional information, I use the Superior Sigil of Mischief on one of my weapons. Maybe it is the snowball effect that triggers that bug…? I will test my Incinerators with other sigils in order to rule that out. But since other players on my screen also lose their flame effect when lots of things are going on (zerg fights, etc.), I doubt the sigil is the cause…

EDIT2: Tested it with different Incinerators with different sigils, it’s not the Sigil of Mischief causing this. It really seems to be the high amount of (skill) effects going on and the low priority of the Incinerator effect to be rendered…

Resistance (Boon) Not Wanted!!!!

I’ll wait and see what base duration this resistance will have, how it will be applied (only to oneself, aoe, blasting possible new combo field types, etc.) and how stackable it is. I just hope they don’t overdo it with it.

But I have to say, taunt sounds interesting to me. Spam confusion and apply taunt Ö.Ö

I guess if you got targeted by such a combo, you would even be happy about resistance…

Don’t you mean Torment? Confusion + Taunt would mean you are potentially preventing your target from taking any action which would waste the confusion. How would it be much different from Fear for that particular use?

Actually I mean Torment + Confusion + Taunt. Apart from running towards you, the player affected by taunt spams auto attack in the process, at least if he/she has auto attack on, since they are locked out of all other skills except for stun breaks, if I understood that correctly. So you should at least get a few confusion ticks in.

Suggestion: player camera improvements

Bug: Cursor changes position if released over target:
A lot of players complain that they lose track of the cursor position when they move the camera. That’s because the cursor changes position if you release it over a target. I already reported this bug before, and even included videos.
If I press the mouse button (for example) 1200×600 pixels on my screen, move the camera, and release the button on empty terrain, it’s still at those coordinates when I release the button, as it’s supposed to be.
But if there’s a selectable target there when I release the button, the cursor position changes coordinates.
If you turned the camera slowly, then the cursor changes only a few pixels, but if you turned the camera fast, then the cursor can appear all the way on the other side of the screen.

This sounds to me like you have the setting “Mouse Trap” on. It locks your cursor on selectable targets when you put your cursor on a target. So your cursor follows that target if you release your mouse. That’s the first thing I deactivated since I hate losing control over my mouse cursor in zerg fights when I want to select a specific target in a blob.

(I’m not at home right now and can’t check – does this setting even still exist? xD)

Can we get a teleport to commander?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There needs to be some kind of way to get around the map. A teleport stone on key places, something. Anything so that when I join I can get to where the group is in some reasonable amount of time.

Sound stops working and fps drops

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Rayti.6531

I can confirm this too. Happened to me in WvW yesterday (in an empty camp). The game sound stopped working and my FPS dropped to 10 FPS (and stayed there as if it was limited to that number, but my frame limiter is set to “Unlimited”). A restart of the client fixed it, but I too had to kill the game in order to restart it…

BTW: I don’t even manage to reach 10 FPS in large scale fights with graphics settings maxed out except for character models. Character settings are set to highest amount of visible players but low-mid model quality, since i don’t care what my enemies on the other side of the map look like… Thought I’d mention that, before anyone gets the idea to blame my hardware…

Dragon's gaze completion % bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Rayti.6531

I noticed that too. It skipped one percent twice until I reached 100%, but counted the number of interrupts correctly in the background. I believe it even was the same number of percent where it occured… However, after the next interrupt the number of interrupts and percentage of completion were correct again.

Let's get down to business.
