Holy cheese balls! I just saw the article on IGN and ran here to see if it was on their website and it isn’t yet. Glad to see there’s a topic about it. Those maps looks sick. The detail is staggering. I need this all now.

New graphic card purchase confirmed.

Pity GW2 can’t utilize it to its full potential. But you can purchase a small bucket you can put under your CPU so it doesn’t dribble all over your other hardware… :-P

I guess the main issue would be the possibility of breaking out of maps. If they allowed gliders all over the currently existing maps, they would need to review every single map for possible spots where you could break out of the map while gliding and fix said spots. I highly doubt this will happen (would be nice though).

Same here. By now I heard reports of this happening in the Silverwastes, Dry Top, Brisban Wildlands, LA, … list constantly growing.

It doesn’t seem to be a specific server IP since when I DCed in Brisban, I had that on both IPs 206.127.159.13 and .12 – then I left the map hoping it won’t happen on other maps, just to be DCed again in LA…

It's All About Timing soloable?

in Living World

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

This achievement was easily soloable as an elementalist. This thread had me worried so I went and rushed it. No food, unoptimized gear (old pirate MF runes, nullification sigil) and mostly berserker with some celestial accessories and a healing staff. Simply put, I’m not optimized. My build isn’t either, which I’m running the standard fire staff build, expect I run with cleansing waters instead of going 100% offense.

The first trial was simple from the start. I immediately had the point under control with all enemies out of the ring. I didn’t even bother attacking the other guy. Another wave spawned maybe 30s in, which I killed most of them and left some melee ones alive as I simply ran around the room. It took around 2 minutes total, with the ring being red for maybe a total of 10s.

The second trial I simply AoE’d everything to the back of the room.

For the third trial, I debated on swapping to invulnerabilities to grab and run, but didn’t bother. I simply killed everything and took the crystal. On the last crystal, I had ~1 minute left and thought I was running out of time, so I swapped to dagger/focus for the invulnerability, but it turns it was ~1s to short, so I simply killed everything again.

I used the birthday blaster to keep track of the time, so technically, I was using food.

Yes, if you are lucky regarding aggro and positioning of the Ghostly Hero and the mobs, you can sit the first phase out with the circle mostly being blue and have enough time left for the rest. As I said, a large part of this is luck. If the first phase takes a few seconds too long because of the NPC standing in the circle and mobs having aggro on him, I would call the rest of the instance everything but easy. But it is soloable. You might need some tries though to get a scenario in the first phase that’s in your favor.

I can just recommend to bring as many push/knockback/pull skills with you as possible to get mobs out of the circle. Try to keep at least one mob alive to prevent further spawns, but make sure to kill the big one (Enemy Ghostly Hero) before the first challange ends, because he will stay alive after that and keep attacking your NPC and therefore slowing down your progress after that.

As others already posted, Ash Legion Spy Kits can be helpful (mind the CD though!) but are not really needed.

AOE not Rendering very well

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

It’s not just in WvW btw. In my last few dungeon/fractal runs the guardian light fields and even most of my own fields only showed the white outline of the AoE circle. So it has nothing to do with the number of players and fields involved, since there were only 5 in the instance (well, duh xD).

EDIT: Something else that i think could be related to that (or could be a totally unrelated thing):

When I stand in AoEs, the flame effect of my Incinerator around my arm gets extinguished quite often (especially when I use an Aura skill and/or Magnetic Wave on top of that)… Sometimes it also does that when I WP (it happens in all areas, not just WvW). I have to stow and draw my weapons again to restore the flame. I have uploaded a small video showcasing this:

http://youtu.be/CFKgJ1qhSx0

However, this has never happened before (prior to the last patch), and since it also has something to do with rendering effects, I thought it could be related.

Why do they HAVE to role play in public?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

I am on Piken Square (which was the unofficial EU RP server before the megaserver update) ankitten ot an RPer. I can say for sure that I have rarely seen RPers without knowingly seeking them out in the well known “hiding places” (as sad as it is, they already have to hide on specific maps in order to not bother others or be bothered by emote spamming trolls).

The exception would be the public pub RP in LA – and these are rather well written, considering the main contents of these RPs are

  • picking up mugs/a bottle/glass of some kind of drink
  • sipping from it
  • glaring/staring/smirking/whatever at somebody else for whatever reason
  • etc.

(of course they also contain dialogue, I’m just admiring what trivial things can become good RP when well written…)

I have to admit that I enjoy reading those lines while crafting/TPing/MFing. In my opinion the RP makes the game seem much more alive. I don’t know what offensive content the RP in Southsun has though… I might pay them a visit there as silent audience.

I think the whole megaserver system should be reworked. As nice as the changes are to fill up empty maps for events, I can imagine it being a nightmare for RPers (and those who hate RP alike). I already feel bad when I have to run past RPers in Ebonhawke for whatever reason. A fully geared elementalist running past shouting “Earth, Fire, …” must be kinda immersion breaking in a more or less peaceful city like that…

Creating your own shards or removing the megaserver system for some specific maps like home cities would be just some of the possible solutions. I hope ANet will come up with something…

One of my tonics was in my bank the moment I unlogged the collection and wasn’t added automatically. When I picked it up from the bank the game crashed with a strange crash report containing a “could not add item… something” -> sent that to ANet right away. However, when I restarted the client it was added to my collection. Can’t remember which tonic that was though, but I believe it was the blue or the green one…

I had this bug yesterday. I got damaged with every note I played but got credit for each note, so i had 100 points after the first song. However, after the first song I died since the next few songs have a much higher rate/more notes so it is impossible to not kill yourself with the bug…

However, I can tell for sure that I got the credit for the notes (points) but the progress bar on the right showing the amount of correct notes played didn’t move an inch.

I also don’t mind macro users in general. The usage of macros for instruments has been allowed officially.

I only have problems with a certain type of users. Maybe it is just me encountering those. But it happened to me several times, when I was playing something for friends or just the random passerby, that a macro user started pressing his “play” button right next to me in order to interrupt my play and started bragging about his high skill level (i.e. playing songs which are manually not playable regarding speed and amount of polyphony and playing them on repeat in the exact same tempo…) and then even had the gall to ask for tips directly in a most unlikeable manner.

I have lots of respect for those who put together the parts and provide these song collection websites, even though I will never use their service. Since I get requests to put together tabs quite often, I know what amount of work is behind it.

And to be on topic: I think a portable piano would be a bit unrealistic. But I could imagine an Asura synthesizer or something similar. But that would be a bit too futuristic for this game I guess… Asura technology itself is already borderline in that regard – at least it has been criticized by many in the past.

I didn’t test whether the downbeats of my drum are synchronized with other player’s down beats if I used it next to another drum player. I just know that it doesn’t play a whole sample when you switch grooves or hit the “solo button” but sticks to the original beat instead… I don’t know whether the beat is also synchronized with other player’s beats or not, but if so, this feature is exclusive to the drum. It doesn’t synchronize with other instruments (this would be difficult since one instrument can’t know what tempo the other player is playing on his instrument).

I’m actually glad that there is no system like that. Having files for each song and just pressing “play” doesn’t feel like making music to me. There are already enough macro users to cover that kind of “playing music”.

Synchronizing however isn’t that big a problem. I already played together with others and it was just fine (in low populated areas). The input delay causes some problems depending on the instrument, but the new bell shows that they are working on it. The responsiveness is very nice on that one.

I would like to have an interface for midi controllers so I could use my iRig keys or similar small midi keyboards in order to control the ingame instruments. I could play music with sharps in it and play chords over the set octave boundaries. (What? One can still dream right? crossing fingers “Dear Santa/ANet Sound Team”)

Regardless of how irrelevant the rewards might be, I would define it as a bug, if a daily reward is not handed out on a daily basis. But maybe that’s just my logic…?

The real problem with the Bell choir game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rayti.6531

How do you find the “easy” part?
I’ve tried 2 times for the bell choir, only option was for southeast arena, nortwest arena or something like that, no Iower or upper, and the notes came fast (for me) and a lot of them.
If thats for beginners I probably never get the daily

The selection of “low”, “mid” and “high” part comes after the teleport options, shortly before the game actually begins. You need to talk to the snowman again and he will show 3 options for that (but you have to be fast if there are more than 3 people waiting there, otherwise, if there are already 3 on the platform you get the teleport options again).

I’m seriously considering changing my keybinds jut to get this achieve. I use a gaming mouse and I had to rename the keys, plus it’s kind of new so I’m not too used to it.

The songs are kind of annoying to play, but at least it’s better than the buggy jumping puzzle.

You can double assign keys too. I use a Razer Naga Hex (key bindings for that are in the 2nd column in the control options in my case) and additionally have the default keybindings just for playing instruments. Maybe you could do the same, so you don’t need to continuously change your settings.

The real problem with the Bell choir game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

The songs I got to play had up to 3-5 notes at the same time on the screen going very fast, which was way too hard for a beginner.

There is no situation in the whole minigame where you have to press “3-5 notes all at once”. This is nothing specific to the songs you got to play, since everyone gets the same songs (even in the same order) each round. There are 2 songs that are particularly hard for a beginner, but “too hard” is proven to be wrong, since I regularly see beginners finish those songs without dying.

Some hints:
You need to press the corresponding keys one after another, right before the orbs reach you. You can imagine it like playing tennis (or baseball, or whatever game where you have to hit a ball that comes towards you). It is best to use the standard key binding for the minigame, since then your fingers follow the same sequence from left to right as the notes/colors in the minigame. Choosing the “lower part” could also help, since this is the easier part to play.

You don’t even have time to get used to which of the 4 buttons plays which note, and than they send all 4-5 notes or more to press at once. It’s borderline stupid. This is equal to hardest difficulties in any music game, right from the start. First songs were far from easy for me, and many other players as well as you can read from the forums.

The first few songs are, more or less, tutorial songs. They are quite slow, with just a small amount of notes to play, and the notes are mostly not even far from each other. Often they are even a sequence from left to right or right to left, etc. The first few songs are for getting used to the bell which – in my opinion – works out quite nicely as a tutorial of some sort.

The pacing is off, and should be toned down to make it fun. The only way to do it as I said is to exploit the game and only spam 2 notes to hopefully heal you back, which basically sums up all the other content mechanic in this game as well, and this one isn’t any different either (just makes you look for how to exploit the system instead of actually playing it).

The pacing fits the tempo of the songs perfectly and therefore is not off. The main problem I see is, that if you have someone on your platform who is reeeeally bad at that game and presses buttons randomly, it can get difficult for the other players to hear the actual pacing of the song or even the right melody. Then you need to rely on the visuals (the floating orbs) instead. In my opinion it would be better if every player heard the standard audio of the other two parts. But that would take away the challange of playing together… so maybe not…

For people who have a bad sense for melody, tempo, etc. maybe it is even best to mute the game while playing the minigame and fully concentrate on the visuals. I can imagine that the music (especially if someone is not following the melody or tempo next to them) is more distracting than helpful to them.

Dungeons : solo mode

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

I don’t think dungeons should scale down in difficulty to be soloable, that would really take away the challenge for solo runners.

It would be enough to add mechanics which enable solo players to progress through parts of the instance where you normally need more than 1 player (e.g. CoF1, Arah Story pressure plate at the beginning, etc.). These mechanics could be implemented in different ways, like alternate methods to open a door, NPCs taking over what additional players would normally do (just stepping in for that task of e.g. stepping on a pressure plate but not following along for the whole instance), etc.

However these mechanics should only kick in when you previously defined your run as “solo run”. This could be a dialogue option before selecting the actual path. Otherwise it would trivialize normal runs and would make losing a player on the way less fatal.

Anti spam bug makes Dry Top impossible

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

I think there should be a way to give people some kind of “talkpower” on a map. I imagine something along the lines:

  • Player joins a map (e.g. Dry Top)
  • Player announces in map chat, that (s)he will call events/help organize and asks players to give him/her “talkpower” so that the spam detection get’s deactivated/set to a less aggressive setting for him/her for a specific amount of time on this map (e.g. 1 hour, this should cover any event duration). This could work via player context menu and could also be restricted to commanders, so newly created “spam characters” can’t acquire talkpower too easily
  • Talkpower must be given to the commander by a specific amount of players so the new spam detection settings kick in (e.g. 20 players, or even better, a specific percentage of the map so that also small groups can organize)
  • Talkpower can also be taken away from the commander in the same way – this reverts the aggressiveness of the spam detection to normal.

Ofc that’s just an idea and by far not perfect. But in my opinion it is better than restricting every single player to a few text messages just in case he/she could be a gold seller/spammer.

Getting Tendoms instead of Fangs REALLY?

in Living World

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

Assuming I did the math correctly, using the general purpose extractor and then trading in the tendons nets a profit of 13 crests. If that is true I would always use an extractor if you make it to the breach, even if you have all 4 fangs.

Tendons give like 12 while fangs give 25.

Has the crests for tendons exchange been lowered? According to wiki it was/is 25 crests per tendon. If it has been lowered to 12 then it costs 80 copper per failed attempt at a fang.

It may be 15 and not 12 but it has been lowered for the tendons. The value you get is what you would have gotten from the second option that we noticed the last update that didn’t make much sense at the time. The last update, tendons were the first option but now it is the fangs.

The guy sometimes specifically looks for tendons, then you get 25 crests for them, and sometimes he’s looking for fangs, then you get 25 for those. I haven’t figured out yet, if there is a specific timer to this, or if it’s just random, but he definitely switched between those 2. And you always get 15 crests for the parts he isn’t currently looking for.

EDIT: or maybe I exchanged my tendons on the first day of the LS patch and they simply changed it…? To be honest I can’t remember, I’m getting old

What I also noticed is, that when the map chat is a bit more populated with other people “trash talking” between your calls, it also slows down the process of being blocked. Or at least that’s how it feels to me, no idea if I’m imagining things…

However, the aggressiveness of the spam detection was a problem since release. I don’t understand why this still hasn’t been changed. Before there was the lfg tool, it wasn’t even possible to search for a party for fractals without being blocked (I mean by using ingame tools, of course there were lfg sites etc.).

I think a change to the spam detection is needed, especially with more and more events coming up that require some kind of organization all over the map. You can’t expect that every single player on a map can or wants to join a TS server just to be successful in a map like Dry Top. Actually this map is something you should be able to do without a guild providing commanders and TS. When I’m there I often take the duty of an event caller and sandstorm tag, and it works out niceley until the spam detection kicks in. TS organization for these events is mostly overkill.

Even in boss encounters there will always be a few people who won’t join a TS server. So even for additional communication besides TS, the map chat is needed to keep those up to date what they are supposed to do.

Silverwastes teleport bug

This happened to me once, on the same exact champ. Couldn’t replicate this, as all attempts following (during different Breach events) were successful and bug free.

Same here.

Question for you guys. When the bug occurred for you, had you already done the Tangled Paths LS on that particular character?

I can only speak for myself here: Yes, the LS was already done on that character.

Teragriff Boss and Thresher Unfair to Melee

Actually, you can easily beat it regardless of weapon. I did that boss both with D/D and D/F on my ele. Focus is quite nice to reflect/block the pull projectiles of the vines.

And if you want to prevent the problem of not having anything ranged if you are running with dagger in main hand, then just equip Ice Bow as a utility skill – this thing eats the HP bar of the boss alive in the burn phases anyway.

candy corn gobbler bug

I just used the cobbler all weekend, and it works just fine.

However, there are several situations, where this message can pop up:

  • Are you in combat when trying to use it? It only works out of combat.
  • Do you have enough (3) Candy Corn in your inventory?
  • Also, there is a cool down on the cobbler. You can only double click it every few seconds.

I was also wondering when I first saw the one in the north. I also couldn’t remember it being there right after the patch so I guess you could be right that they are appearing one after another…

bad wvw rank up chest

I know for sure that one of my guildies got a precursor out of a rank up chest. It is an exotic like any other – since exotics drop from those chests, precursors do too.

However, I’m also more on the masterwork and occasional rare side of the RNG… But I got an ascended chest once, somewhere after rank 500. And I think there also were some rings. But since I already have a mule char full of those, I can’t remember which stat combination it was… Since I’m not wearing it, it must have been a useless one.

It really doesn’t feel that rewarding to open rank up chests, now that I think about it… But I don’t think this can be considered a bug, it’s just RNG.
