Z,X,C,V are my attunements.
Q, E, R, T for utilities.

I thought about a similar setup, but then I noticed I needed those buttons for other things…

Q is my “look behind”, E is “nearest target”, R is “AoE loot”, F is “interact”, X is “Push to Talk” in TS, C is “about face” (comes in handy for using escape skills as gap closers instead), and V is still “dodge” – easiest setting for performing “dodge jumps” in my opinion.

It’s interesting to see how differently the elementalist is handled when it comes to controls

I have a Razer Naga Hex and it does a great job when it comes to switching attunements and using utilities. Every other mouse with more thumb buttons would be an overkill for me because I wouldn’t feel the difference between all those buttons…

Using my Hex, I just double assigned F1-4 and 6-0 so I can also use the old binds for playing ingame instruments. Another reason was that I needed some time to adjust to the new binds due to having played with the default keybinds for half a year (felt like playing Mozart while pulling off simple combos btw. xD).

On the Hex I have F1-4 + 6 + 9 on my thumb buttons, 7 is clicking the mousewheel, 8 and 0 is on the mid mouse buttons. Why exactly I assigned it that way I don’t know anymore. I think I did that based on the CD or the frequency of usage for the skills I had slotted there back then… Today however my build and therefore slotted skills have nothing to do with it anymore

What I like about the Hex is the hexagonal placing of the thumb buttons. It’s much easier to know where you are with your thumb than with a numpad-like placing. After some time it’s all in the muscle memory – so when you think “Fire” or “Air” it’s already there.

Question: Ele self-heal when downed?

Also, when casting Glyph of Renewal in Fire and dying shortly afterwards, the Ele can rez him/herself with that glyph. This only takes several seconds to proc – so a few seconds after hitting the floor, the ele stands up again. Maybe that’s what happened…?

But if you say it took a while, the ele maybe just healed up with the downed heal skill. This doesn’t take too long with a low health pool that some cleric eles have.

This sounds like what happened. The fight took awhile because this ele had quite a bit of healing and cleansing, but when he was down, I went to make sure I wasn’t going to get ganked since I didn’t expect him to get back up, and then be just got back up. That part only took a few moments. He didn’t have very long to self heal, so that wasn’kitten

I have an additional question: is there a visual cue look for if glyph of renewal was cast in fire attunement? I’m a little rusty on my ele literacy.

It has a 3,25s cast time – during that time the ele draws a glyph symbol into the air in front of him/her (similar to summoning an elemental). After that, there is a black icon with the golden glyph in it among all the other boons in the bar. You can see what that icon looks like here:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glyph_of_renewal

As long as this symbol is there, the ele can “insta rezz” from downed state. So waiting with downing the ele until the symbol is gone is the best counter to it (apart from interrupting the veeeery loooooong cast).

EDIT:

I think there’s a buff icon, but you will never have to know it because any ele using glyph of renewal should never be a problem for you.

There are Eles out there who don’t need 3 cantrips in their utility bar – that doesn’t necessarily mean they are bad players. You are right about that glyph being used very rarely though. I yet have to encounter one of those with Glyph of Renewal equipped

Bugged? How so, can’t say i have really noticed anything bug wise when it comes to the Runeset.

…..

There are several smaller threads about the bugs spread all over the forums. The bugs exist since the release of that rune set and survived 2 perplexity rune nerfs.

In short you get the 5 stacks confusion yourself if you get interrupted by certain things (traps in Weyandt’s Revenge JP, shards in Thaumanove Reactor with knock back, I think also the knock backs in Fractal 39, baskilisk venom, etc.).

Here is a thread with a small video demonstrating that with the basilisk venom like effect of the box of fun:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Rune-of-Perplexity/first#post3698649

Maybe I’ll put together a video of all relevant situations where this happens. Unfortunately I highly doubt it will get any attention seeing how many patches have been released since the first bug report on the forums…

A counter for that bug is picking Diamond Skin, then you don’t notice it that much…

I use a combination of keyboard and camera control (right click on mouse) to move my character, so to me the “about face” option gets very uncomfortable to use due to it being disabled while using right click… I hope this gets changes some day. I don’t see a reason for it to work like that.

I even run my condition build with staff every now and then. It might not be even close to the efficiency of D/D or D/F, but still I like it a lot – at least when I really need to switch to ranged combat for a while and mid range (S/X) doesn’t suffice.

You have enought interrupts with staff to still proc the confusion of the rune (unsteady ground is also very nice for that). Your ele can keep up buring very easily, so one of your high damaging conditions is up a lot as long as you also add cover conditions of any sort (Sigil of Torment can help with that too). The burning of FGS can also be veeery evil. Taking Frost Bow with you doesn’t hurt either, with the additional conditions (chill, vuln, bleeding stacks, etc.) and the additional direct dmg you normally lack when running a fully condition oriented build. This is only recommended though, if you have a spare slot on your utility bar…

That condition builds in general (not limited to ele) are not as viable as direct dmg builds in most PvE/WvW situations (large scale combat/zerg fights, World Bosses, etc.) is a problem that lies in the condition mechanic itself and is known to nearly everyone by now. Especially when there are more people that apply the same conditions to a single target (or the same set of tragets), there is the problem of shared condition stacks…

Still, I prefer playing condi ele over any direct dmg build (except for PvP), even though I have all the other build sets in ascended version and am capable of playing those. There comes the time where you just want to play something different – regardless of a mob possibly dropping a bit faster with another build. As long as you have a group you can synergize with, that can even be more efficient than a pure direct dmg group. In WvW when roaming you also have the element of surprise on your side

There will always be people who laugh at unconventional builds. Funny thing though: these are the exact same ones who start copy pasting the same build as soon as it becomes meta (what is very unlikely to happen with condition ele builds in the near future though…). I only remember all the “looool you are playing D/D???” before the bunker build was known to everyone…

Regarding Runes:
It’s a pity the perplexity runes are still bugged… You sometimes eat your own confusion when interrupted, but still it’s my preferred rune set when playing a condition build (mostly in PvE/WvW Roaming). If you are Asura by any chance, you can take Pain Inverter and Radiation Field for extra confusion, retaliation, poison and weakness btw. These are not available in PvP though – I tend to play zerker there instead.

Many players will find this topic uneccesary, irrelevant, or a threat to your income because you make a ton selling precursors you are lucky enough to forge but I don’t care. I have been playing GW2 since early access (I was in beta too, but that doesn’t count) and I have forged 1000s of weapons, done countless dungeons, WvW, and events without a single precursor drop.

I feel like my account has a hex on it, some quirk in the coding that prevents nice things from being added to my loot table and I’m tired of it. It’s time to end the nonsensical RNG where legendary precursors are concerned.

I quote this so I don’t have to write exactly the same. Anet, please sort out this kitten RNG system for those who don’t have Fortuna smiling on them. Actually, given all that god kitten ed effort put in, Fortuna should and would have smiled on us ages ago. Anet RNG mechanism doesn’t though and might actually be dubbed the Devil.

I don’t know what Fortuna exactly does on some of us, but I’m sure it’s not “smiling”

At least I’m not the only one wasting time on Fractals and dungeons and all those other things that “have a chance of dropping precursors”.

I will keep trying to get my pre from the mystic forge though. It’s not like a legendary is a MUST have – and obviously (given how much time/mats/rares I already invested) I’m not in a hurry… Still it would be nice… daydreams

I wouldn’t go that far and say that ANet is doing this on purpose though – like some suggested in this thread – I’m sure they’re not. I also don’t think anyone buys gems to buy their pre/legi with the gold. The only winning party I could imagine are those gold sellers, finding some victims who can’t wait for their lucky drop to happen… I really hope we will soon get rid of those…

However I’m sure it’s just the same old problem with generating “random” values/simulating luck in programming… RNG is never a good idea and maybe ANet even realized that… The problem is that they certainly can’t revert that – it would be unfair to introduce other methods for acquiring precursors (like a huge quest) when others threw thousands of gold into the forge/TP to get theirs… Maybe this is why these changes take so long – to find a compromise.

Well… I tried to get my Incinerator finished for some time now… I play since beta and yet have to drop any kind of precusor even though I farm map bosses on a nearly daily basis in the evening, do lots of JPs, play WvW a lot, tried the mystic forge etc.

It happened to me several times now, that other players got precursor drops from the same mob I was also hitting (like guards in WvW), pulled them out of JP chests right in front of me, stood next to me on the mystic forge while I was throwing in hundreds of rares or exos while they got their pre after a few tries… It’s not that I think that they didn’t deserve it – I’m just wondering what I’m doing wrong

Now after a year (that’s when I officially decided to craft the Incinerator) I really start to believe in the “account based” luck (or in my case: lack thereof) and I have to admit it feels a bit frustrating.

I don’t want to buy a precursor off the TP because it would ruin the “achievement” for me. I get lots of “then it’s your own fault” or even “how come you STILL don’t have that legendary?!” due to that decision and I honestly don’t expect anyone to understand I want to get this precursor myself…

However, I think there should be an equal chance for everyone to actually get a pre if they worked towards it. And for me, farming 1000g just to see that the price has once again increased (inbetween it was even at 1700g – then there was no supply at all, etc.) doesn’t count as “working towards a goal while still enjoying the game”.

I wouldn’t mind having to do a veeeery long quest with veeeeery difficult content – but RNG for a legendary weapon doesn’t sound very “legendary” to me. I hope they will change something about that soon – but I highly doubt there will be changes for the existing types of legendaries given that many have thrown lots of gold into the MF or the TP. I think it’s more likely they will introduce new legendaries with other methods of precursor acquisition…

Conjured Weapons

Rayti.6531

I don’t care if it sucks hard. I’m doing this for a change of pace and to have some fun.

And that’s exactly what you should do, because that’s how new builds are found and maybe some day even get known and used by others. That doesn’t happen simply by copy pasting some existent “meta” builds.

I remember the time when (nearly) everyone said “You can’t play D/D, that’s not viable – close range on a mage? Are you serious?” – that was before daphoenix wrote his guides and everyone startet using D/D or even rolling an ele just to play said build – at least until it got nerfed…

Experimenting is always a good thing to do – so just have fun trying out things!

Regarding the Conjures Trait. I personally don’t use it because I only use the Ice Bow and FGS. In case of Ice Bow there are just some skills you want to use until you throw it away (you would waste lots of dps by waiting for the Ice Bow skills to come off CD while locking you out of all your weapon skills). So in this case 15 charges are more than enough. I also don’t really remember needing extra charges on FGS (if it wasn’t for the despawn timer I could imagine needing them though).

It’s a different story with the Lightning Hammer and the Lava Axe/Conjured Flame. Especially in dungeon runs when excessively using those you might need the Trait.

Unfortunately there really are no Traits besides “Conjurer” who directly affect Conjured Weapons. But as already mentioned you can indirectly support them with Traits like Piercing Shards. Ice Bow 2 stacks some vulnerability, so you have a 20% dmg increase on top of the vulnerability (given you stay in water attunement) – even when you are soloing… In a group it’s unlikely a boss or anything won’t have vulnerability on it, so it’s a very good trait to pick. Same goes for every Trait with something like “deal x more dmg while y”. You just need to take care to fulfill the y condition (like being attuned to a certain element, having enough HP, being in the right range, …) while using your Conjure.

Bunkers: In-Game Points

in PvP

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

I understand the point BlinkTwice is trying to make. Especially with new players in e.g. soloQ you have the problem that they think those with less points are bad players. This often also leads to new players not listening to those who know what to do, because “what does he/she know, look at his/her score”.

The problem with the current score board is, that it doesn’t reflect the actual contribution to a victory in any way. I would rather have no score board at all than a score board that only shows who stomped/killed the most enemy players (except for death match of course).

Still I don’t know how they could make it better. Maybe you could award more points for kills in a capture point and its vicinity but remove awarded points in the middle of nowhere entirely?

What I would not do: letting the points tick for someone who is standing in the circle, because then, everyone would run to the home point and stay there.

But maybe it could be implemented instead that as soon as the defender gets dmg, the points start ticking for the defender (and not just when successfully killing the attackers, but really for staying there as long as the point is under attack).

Generally I just think that everything that rewards counter-productive/unstrategic play is simply wrong.

I say you can predict the match based on 3 things:
-weapon equipped i see so many warriors with GS these days, or mesmer with torch, or guardians with staff and GS…
-shiny style a guy with those glowing metal wings sure is a PvE oriented player, or a legendary GS, tequatl / fractals weapons…
-title every time i see Hero Of Lions Arch i know it’s gonna be bad now, every PvP player should use his champion title (not champion slayer pls) or ransacker / marauder etc…

i am a shiny style guy and rock my mercenary title over my actual rank title. i really like mercenary better than most other titles but sometimes ill throw on pve titles and ask what to do to throw people off. some peoples reactions are hilarious. also i do keep my champ titles on their respective classes so i wont be a engi using any title other than champ genius which i dont have yet so yeah.

Just what I was thinking when I read that post. Why should I look like a potato if I have other skins available? You could get skins like “those glowing metal wings” in a few hours of PvE btw. That doesn’t necessarily mean the person wearing those is a hardcore PvE player only running circles in a champ train all day long, except the time they are mindlessly speed running dungeons (exaggerations intended). There are people out there who play all game modes depending on what they are in the mood for. It is called “having fun” – some should really try that every now and then…

And I am a jumpy little Asura, so why shouldn’t I use my “Honors in Applied Jumping” over some PvP title that is collecting dust in my title drop down (because it doesn’t fit my character at all). If it’s just to not be berated by others before a match even started, then I have to say: thanks, but no thanks.

I have no problems to accept criticism regarding my PvP gameplay when it is justified, especially because I just joined in again just recently. All kinds of tips are welcome (even those unfriendlier ones). But being judged by someone for the armor or weapons you are wearing sounds rather infantile to me… Sorry, but I couldn’t take a person like that seriously at all.

Churning Earth Suggestion

I’m sure this video has been shared several times all over the place. But it shows that – given some coordinated play – you can have lots of fun with Churning Earth in WvW.

http://youtu.be/HzBV9X6Z07M

Also when you are playing solo, you can land this skill nicely. All you have to do is use your environment so the opponent does not see the cast animation until it’s too late. When you analyise the maps you are playing on, there are some nice spots where you can start a cast unnoticed and lightning flash to you target easily.

However, I would really like a change like the one described above (DMG depending on how long you cast it). If I’m not totally mistaken, I can remember the skill working a bit differently in beta… I’m not sure if it didn’t even have a similar mechanic as described by you.

Another idea: Given the cripple is already kind of “pulsing” they could add some dmg to these pulses…

Hostility in PvP

Rayti.6531

I wouldn’t say that the behavior described by the OP has anything to do with the game mode but rather the attitude of said players. There are some that tend to rage about, well, anything and those who are capable of giving constructive feedback. You can find either of those in every game mode, be it PvE map boss encounters and dungeon groups, in WvW, etc. The thing is, that in most cases there is a good reason for them to say something, it’s just the choice of words that varies.

I for my part played some PvP after release but got bored after some time due to the lack of game modes (I think I just played until I was close to wolf rank and then quit PvP – I would still consider myself new due to lack of tournament experience). Since then I played PvE and lots of WvW and came back to PvP now. I have fun playing PvP due to the additional modes added since release and the new reward track, so I’m definitely here to stay. I don’t think the fact that I haven’t played PvP that much and not at all for a while makes me a “lesser” player. I’m very good at ignoring those who think so btw.

Still I have to say that I haven’t been called names, insulted or anything by now in soloq (at least not by allies) and was able to play there without attracting any negative attention (or all the people I played with were of the very patient kind). I try to communicate before every match what I’m intending to do and where I intend to join in afterwards etc. If I notice someone giving advice in the team chat, I follow it. Those people trying to advise in team chat are the ones who haven’t given up on the “new” players yet, so maybe you should also do them the favor to listen/read. It makes the matches more enjoyable for them, and for you as well due to the higher chance to actually win and learn something in the process.

Regarding the other ones raging and calling you names, I can only recommend to either filter useful information from their raging or if there is none -> ignore them.

Runes, Sigils, and Balance Updates?

really another thread about the same old story?

on kill sigill are now like they where before in spvp. unequip the weapon looses the stacks.

and before u complain about less sigills on ele and engi, start counting your weaponsets!

That “count your weapon sets” argument seems to be the answer to all problems… I just counted and I still have 1 (in words “one”) weapon set as an elementalist. I have attunements though and in return I get long cooldowns, less dmg, less adaptability when it comes to switching between close and ranged combat, etc. And I’m totally OK with all of that – if I wasn’t I would not play the class. However that should be enough to compensate for our “weapon sets” as you call them. I would rather call it a mechanic though, something defining every class has. It’s the same like saying “but thieves have perma stealth, steal, no cooldowns on their skills, etc. They should not get 4 Sigils, because – well because. And while you’re at it, mesmers have clones, phantasms and stealth, they should not get them either”. Sounds stupid? Then maybe you got my point.

The points raised in this thread have nothing to do with those game mechanics (they have already been balanced and therefore should not get further nerfs through new additions to the game) but with a balancing issue that seems to have escaped your notice:

It makes a huge difference whether you can have 4 sigils up or just 2. Every class but engies and eles could have a stacking sigil on the 2nd weapon set while wielding the main weapon set. That means there can be 3 other sigils (on crit, weapon swap, etc.) – 2 on the active weapon set and one on the off hand. In case of engies and eles, there is just one slot besides the stacking sigil left…

That’s nothing one can/should just ignore, especially if the solution (like adding a second weapon set to the heroes panel and locking the set in combat) is so simple and could use mechanics already existent in the game… But we will see, if and how this has been handled in the patch today.

Megaservers and RP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

I don’t know if this helps any of the RPers posting their concerns here. I know it doesn’t solve the problem but still it should be some kind of comfort in case the changes actually force you to play with “non-RPers”:

I’m not an RPer. Actually I would consider myself a “normal” player (not meaning that RPers aren’t, I just didn’t find a better word for the average player) who plays and enjoys each game mode more or less equally – and yet there is still an image of my character that I hold dear:

I know how my character would react to specific situations, would answer specific questions (like the one about Scarlet’s death), etc. I think every player has some kind of concept about how they want their characters to be. That is nothing else than RPing and I’m sure I’m not the only one who is RPing a bit every now and then, even if it is only in my head. We are all playing an MMO*RPG* after all…

However, if I were to encounter more RPers during daily PvE, it would add something to my gaming experience rather than be annoying. If an RPer talked to me and I noticed he/she is currently acting IC, I would definitely try to answer in an appropriate manner, even though I might not be as eloquent as a practiced RPer (also depending on the language used).

I’m sure that I’m not the only one who thinks that way. I even know of serveral guilds spread over other EU servers than Piken who RP a lot (especially those with a theme like e.g. Asura krewes). Maybe you will even find new fellow RPers you would have never met without the new system…?

There will always be trolls, sure – but you should not assume that all of the “non-RPers” are. If trolls wanted to get in your way while you RP, they could already do that by guesting to your server. As far as I know though, lots of people even guest to your servers to actually see your RPing in action, so it can’t be that bad, right?

I don’t know if Klonex was referring to the original post (clearing Queensdale) or to your reply with hints to the actual key farming method as it is known to most of us. I was referring to the latter. However I’m quite sure both methods are known to ANet.

My all time favourite
Glyph of renewal was able to ress dead people, was faster and affected NPCs.
The latter was nerfed on every class except one… (can you guess wich?)
at least Glyph of Renewal works now … and it can rez dead NPCs

[…]

Answer in quote

You sure?
After 1,5 years they reverted what they did?

Glyph of Renewal changes since release:

  • Glyph of Renewal could rezz dead players and dead NPCs but was bugged in several attunements
  • Then they changed that it could rezz dead people but kept that it could rezz dead NPCs (so this part always worked) – bugs still existent
  • Then they changed the mechanic of the Glyph by adding ground tageting and fixed the bugs the glyph had in several attunements, rezzing dead NPCs still works

Maybe I missed out on something, but I can’t remember the rezzing of NPCs not working at any point… And really, rezzing DEAD players is OP and should not be possible for any class.

EDIT: The cast time has also been reduced, but in my opinion it should be further reduced to the 2 seconds the Battle Standard has…

Well, regarding the Elementalist and the Engineer they could (finally) add a second weapon slot in the H-menu, so they can equip a second weapon set but not swap sets in combat. That’s a QoL feature they have been asking for since what, release? That would at least prevent them from losing their stacks because they wouldn’t need to unequip the set 1 in order to access set 2. So now this QoL feature would even become necessary in order to not handicap these two classes compared to those with “normal” weapon mechanics. (Apart from that it would free up some inventory space and they wouldn’t need to search for their 2nd set in the inventory while running. It’s not like I’m not already swapping my weapon constantly while out of combat, it’s just annoying as hell this way…)

The question about what happens when picking up environmental weapons/conjures/etc. or when swimming/diving is something that bugs me even more because it really sounds like something that can be overlooked very easily… I hope they have thought about that or read our concerns here before the patch goes live. keeping fingers crossed

In case of the spider queen it would have been enough to make it a personal achievement, so that only the person who wants it must not be cocooned and eaten afterwards. Of course that would be a (too) easy to get achievement. But then again they could have changed it to even require beeing cocooned and then being freed in time so the queen can’t eat you.

About griefing the queen event: It happened to me once on my way between two heirlooms that the spider queen spawned just when I was passing by… Of course I got cocooned and eaten and could watch the chat with all its name calling and people ranting about the noob who has “deliberately” ruined the achievement for others – in other words: me.

Of course the game also has people who get cocooned on purpose but the sad thing is: this event doesn’t even require those but only people being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Since my little incident there, I just try to avoid that area. But you can’t expect anyone who already has the achievement and/or doesn’t care about the event to do that.

I hope these scenarios are taken into consideration when designing future events. I was lucky enough to get the achievement on the first day of the LS patch, but I understand the frustration of all those who didn’t…

Condition damage miss understood

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

I don’t see the problem with damage calculations itself. It shouldn’t matter to the server or the network connection if there are calculations for 100x hundred blades with different power, crit DMG, might stacks and crit chances behind it (with armor of the opponents to be taken into consideration too) or 1000 (assuming 10 stacks by each of a group of 100 people) bleeding ticks with different condi DMG and might stacks behind it. Actually the condi ticks should be the easier ones to calculate since they are only affected by condi DMG and might stacks and directly go through armor.

These calculations already work partly – introduced with the new condition icons adding up all your bleeding stacks. I guess adding up all stacks of a map could be the next step. But not without balancing boss/enemy HP or even the whole game around these changes in the same step.

I think the main reasons for the caps initially introduced was the fear of enemies melting too fast under the combination of direct DMG and full condition DMG and also the impact of condition dmg on large scale PvP/WvW.

For PvE – apart from global HP adjustments – there are already new enemy mechanics in place, that could help. Enemies are already dodging, healing up, even have down states. Active condition removal could also be used by enemies when a certain amount of condition stacks is reached. That way players could/would need to continuously apply conditions to keep them up. That’s at least what I could imagine for PvE and map bosses.

In PvP and WvW balancing this would be difficult. There should not be a difference if you are insta killed by simultaneous direct DMG of many players or a huge amount of condition stacks applied by the same amount of players. But there are classes that can do both high direct and condition dmg. And lots of conditions can be applied ranged. To me that sounds very difficult to balance and by changing the condi DMG mechanic, ANet would need to do severe changes to every aspect of the game. So I understand the underlying problem here…

I hope there will be some solution in the future. Currently condition builds are mostly considered not viable in PvE (especially boss fights – see also current LS Knights) and generally in large scale combat. Most condition players will be asked to switch to zerker gear (not always in the friendliest way). I think that’s a situation that should never arise in a well balanced game. Instead of a trinity we have zerker – zerker – zerker now…

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I don’t think an infinite condition spam (no stack limit) would be a good solution. Also personal stack limits are not the best solution. That’s clear to me too and has also been mentioned by the devs.

They are looking into it but won’t implement either of those two “solutions”. I’m curious though, what they come up with – the problem obviously is very complex.

Leeching - Why is nothing being done?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

Zmaj, I never implied that it should be automatic. Like any reporting system in this game, they would have to VERIFY the leeching activity. However, I strongly feel that once it was verified, action should be taken against the offender.

I’m just imagining the scenario of ANet employees trying to verify each and every report regarding leeching activity manually/semi-automatic, going through logs all day long.

I don’t think this is (ever) going to happen. Especially because every individual player has a different perception when it comes to severity and importance of an offense – there are justified reports for sure, but there are also lots of nonsense reports the team has to dig through before even finding a justified one. If you consider the total amount of players on NA and EU servers → even if there is just a small percentage of those players actively reporting such things I highly doubt there is enough staff to go through all that, all day long…

So it’s just natural that people in this thread are asking how you intend to tell leechers apart from “normal” players automatically.

Regarding the importance of these leechers: I for my part would rather have ANet work on further methods to identify and remove botters and teleport hackers before they ban someone for “using tonic form in battle”… I guess the impact of those on the ingame economy is much more severe.

Report AFK people under "botting"?

Actually, that’s an interesting question since we’ve been told by Anet to report AFKers in this instance.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/escape/Report-AFK-people/3721305

Actually what you have been told is:
“If you see something in-game which you feel violates our Code of Conduct, please report these instances in-game so Customer Support can review.” (CC Danicia, 05.03.2014)

Which was in response to the question: “Since there are more and more people abusing this, I want to ask before I get myself in trouble for “abusing” the report system: Is this a reportable offence?”

Whether or not it violates the CoC isn’t the question here. The question is merely one of procedure.

Unfortunately the question regarding procedure isn’t answered in the cited thread either…

Even if it would violate the CoC I think there should be an option to report them for exactly what they are doing. Not for something totally different that has nothing to do with their violation. It’s not like it makes filtering easier for the team if everything is reported as “botting”.

As far as I can remember, many people already asked for additional categories for different cases, but yet there are still none…

The problem is, it does not violate the Code/Rules of Conduct to go afk… At least not directly. I didn’t find anything about it – maybe you can hint me at it?

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-rules-of-conduct/

What I did find was something about “inappropriate behavior” (see 21.). shrugs
Much more interesting in 21. is, that it can have consequences for YOU to submit false reports.

So… does it count as false report to state someone is “botting” (due to lack of category options) when what he/she actually is doing is “being AFK”…? I wouldn’t take the risk just because someone is AFK. Not to mention the difficulty to prove that the AFKer is deliberately manipulating the event and not just answering the call of nature.

The only point in the Rules of Conduct actually mentioning AFKing/actively participating is 22. – about PvP match manipulation

Report AFK people under "botting"?

Well, botting is a serious accusation that – as far as I know – results in a perma ban for the one being reported for it (hopefully after proof has been found)… AFKing is not anywhere near botting when it comes to severity so “botting” doesn’t seem to be the right choice here. I don’t understand why they still didn’t add a category like “other” to the list though…

But maybe it’s because they don’t want to know about all those other things people are trying to report anyway? I for my part would not want to be informed about anyone afking, no matter where he/she did that.

Reason: How do you tell apart leechers from those needing to take an important call or prevent their children from eating something poisonous or touching the stove with their hands (just some examples, but going to the toilet during a nearly one hour event should also not be bannable, don’t you think)?

I for my part always ignore the AFKers, but I guess – judging by your staterment – that’s no option for you…?

EDIT: However, as others already mentioned, there are no rules against afking… So I highly doubt that, even if you report them, there will be consequences for them.

[Bugged] tricks & tune

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

I did both of these achievements yesterday.

For In Tune I had to take care not to apply conditions that tick longer than the duration of the attunement buff, because condi ticks seem to also count as “hitting”. Being an Ele I needed to take care in which attunement to dodge and also not to switch to earth attunement near a mob (AoE cripple on switch), etc. I’m not sure if there are any bugs, I didn’t notice any.

The No More Tricks, Scarlet can indeed be called bugged. Since the last few patches/fixes the holo boss instance starts early, therefore you are very likely to spawn in an AoE laser field – even if you enter the instance seconds after the last knight has been killed (I used Focus for Invulnerability while entering the instance so I didn’t get hit). Another problem is, that the laser AoE lasts a bit longer than its animation. So if you run through a recently despawned laser field you will still get hit for a few seconds.

In Tune Achievement anyone?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Rayti.6531

Take care that none of your conditions tick longer than your buff lasts. Those also count towards “hitting” the enemy.

You can easily see if something went wrong – if you have a debuff you definitely hit something you shouldn’t have.

I can only say that I just finished both the “In Tune” and the “No More Tricks, Scarlet” in 2 runs. The only bug I noticed is, that the boss instance after defeating the knights seems to start early and therefore you have a chance of spawning in a laser field. That’s why I needed 2 runs… So if you have any invulnerability skills you can cast before entering – do so!

After killing the knights, there will be 3 coloured circles, red, green and blue. Run through all of them and you will get a white buff and can enter the portal.

Apart from the first run after the patch, yesterday those fields were bugged on overflows (didn’t appear at all), so maybe that was your problem.

Without wanting to be rude but:
I still don’t get how anyone could exit the instance and miss out on the main purpose they even went in for…

Even if you take the wrong path first and go upstairs… As soon as you see the green star with the “exit” popup, some common sense should kick in… Something like “Oh, am I already finihsed? That can’t be right. Let’s see what else is in here first…” – regardless of where you think the exit will take you – back to LA or outside the Airship for an epic battle.

But maybe that’s just me.

I understand what you mean with the same symbol being used for different things though (quest marker vs. exit in instances). That should be reworked throughout the whole game, maybe by using the yellow stars they introduced with the LS as questmarkers right from the beginning – also for the main personal story…? Then they could still use the green ones as exit markers in instances. But that’s just an idea.

HARP 9slot/Elite slot suggestion:

The bell and the horn actually had that kind of controls (9 down, 0 up) even before the flute came out, so it’s actually the flute being out of line here.

However, the flute, compared to the other instruments, is one octave short – so the controls make sense. If you tried to apply that kind of controls to the other instruments (just one button to switch the octave) you would have no control over what octave you want to switch to (lower or upper octave).

I know exactly what you are talking about though. You have no idea how often I press the elite when using the flute trying to switch to the upper octave, especially when I played the bell or the harp before using the flute… It’s driving me nuts!

Same goes if you get interrupted by environmental things like traps. I experienced this in the Weyandt’s Revenge jumping puzzle when casting Ether Renewal and getting interrupted by the spike traps.

I also get that when destroying chaos shards in the Thaumanova Reactor (those knocking you back) and I think I also had that once on fractals lvl 39 caused by the enemy explosions (I’m not sure about that though – I’ll test that once again).

This bug has been reported several times (also by me) in this forum. But it seems the devs just missed the posts. I think the upcoming changes to runes would be a good opportunity to fix this.

Next Backpiece upgrade for ascended only?

All I want is to have a glowing Spinal Blades. I care not about its colour. But because Anet appears to hate people who play multiple characters (I have mults, not alts), I will never have one.

Great job Anet! Thanks for locking some of your most loyal customers out of content!

I would be very interested in something:
What exactly about having alts or “mults” prevents you from crafting the back item? Having “mults” indicates, that it can’t be lack of time many others (including me) suffer from.

So if you wanted to, you could have crafted it by now. You not putting the effort into leveling one crafting discipline of your choosing to 500 can not exactly be considered ANet’s fault.

Your statement is very similar to something like “I don’t do dungeons – and because ANet hates people not running dungeons, I’ll never have <insert random dungeon skin>”

The new backitem is by far the easiest to get. Others had to run fractals in a loop to farm relics or throw lots of t6 mats into the mystic toilet in order to get an ascended backpiece.

Selfless Potion on Asura

I would like to add that there is some clipping going on too.

On my Asura elementalist the halo is clipping in my character’s head when I cast e.g. auto attacks on scepter with my ele (Air, Fire, Earth). I added some screens of these attacks, to show what I mean.

Apart from the abovementioned scepter auto attacks this also happens when using the following attacks:

Dagger – Earth 1 and 2 + Water 3
Focus – Water 5

I think it’s safe to say, that this happens with all skills where the Asura is raising his/her hand or leaning forward in the same way as in the scepter auto attacks on elementalist – see also attached screens.

Further information on my character:
I have the smallest (female) Asura available wearing T3 cultural light armor. No idea if the selected character model affects this bug in any way though. I could imagine that the halo’s general position (not centered but above the forehead) could partly be causing this.

transparent halo?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

It looks much better if you’re playing with higher settings. It has more of the gold color and there’s the sparkle animation. If they could make it slightly less transparent then it would be great.

I have everything maxed out in my graphics settings and still it is transparent. The few sparkles don’t add much to the visibility. I don’t see that as much as an issue, but would like it to be more visible, maybe a bit of a glow/less transparency.

What I think would be much more important is a fix for Asura.

The halo is too small/barely visible on them, so a slight increase of size would be much appreciated… The position also seems to be a bit off. It’s sitting in front of the head rather than being centered (this could also be the reason for the clipping mentioned below).

Another issue is the clipping: In my case the halo is clipping in my character’s head when I cast auto attacks on zepter with my ele (e.g. air and fire). I have the smallest Asura available and T3 cultural light armor – so it really is clipping into the head, not the hair or anything similar – my character is bald. I yet have to make screenshots of that, but I’ll definitely add that to the bug section.

EDIT: Added some screens of the issue

Just made some further tests. The abovementioned clipping also happens with scepter Earth1; dagger Earth 1,2 and Water 3; focus Water 5. So it mainly happens in animations where the Asura character raises its hand.

How lazy are you really? If you have gold it takes maximum 30 minutes for you to get your crafting discipline to 500.

450 maybe but from there on it’s pretty difficult since most items are account bound.

To the original post, Gw2 ‘imo’ did a great job with crafting from other games i’ve played. You should try it out…..

Actually, you don’t need any account bound mats in order to level to 500. This can all be done by using normal T6 mats and rediscovering the different stat/piece combinations due to the fact that all the exotic recipes you have discovered before were reset when level 500 was introduced (recipes you have bought are still there though – like e.g. celestial).

Leatherworker Guide:
http://www.guildwars2hub.com/guides/crafting/guild-wars-2-leatherworker-leveling-guide-400-500

This guide is just for reference so you get an idea what I’m talking about. It’s not the cheapest so you should always check on the TP if there are any cheaper mats you could use. Maybe you have some spare Snowflakes or Quartz Crytals – those can make it a lot cheaper (in case you don’t need them for anything else of course).

If you start leveling now it isn’t cheap at all though if you need to buy some mats… I would recommend a bit of waiting until the prices for several materials reach reasonable values again. Currently some prices are insane…

So because someone doesn’t want to level crafting they are lazy? Wow. You are a bad person, judging someone like that for no reason other than your pathetic self gratification.

There is absolutely no reason crafting should be required for this ascended backpiece. They are clearly meant as an event reward, therefore should be obtainable by anyone who participates in the event, regardless of their crafting skill.

Obviously the backpiece is supposed to be crafted (hence the crafting required). Why should any ascended backpiece be given away for free/participating in an event where you can finish all achievements in 2 runs, while others had to craft their ascended pieces throwing an insane amount of materials into the MF (or directly crafting it with the new recipes), farm relics in the fractals of the mists, etc. You see the flaw?

I would understand a free giveaway as meta reward if it was just for the skin, but an ascended backpiece where you can pick your stats: no

If you want event rewards for “participating”:
Apart from tier rewards for saving citizens, gold/exp/karma given for each event you participated in, bags, drops, etc. there are several things you can get by exchanging found belongings and heirlooms. These are obtainable regardless of crafting skill.

-snip-

-snip-

I didn’t actually write that. But i know what it means. The annotations kinda confused me at first too, because it’s different than what most people write in tabs. That’s actually because no one has yet to write tabs where you use this harp-like technique of playing songs. The problem is that numbers in brackets () usually means higher octave. But it actually doesn’t in that tab.

-snip-

I’ve rewritten it to make more sense to me in the following example. Note that it’s the same tab, just written differently:

5 -13-5 (13 21) 7 -46-8 64 8686 -45-7 54 8 -4-6 7 -35-8 (2 3 1 2) -13-5
5 -13-5 (13 21) 7 -46-8 64 8686 -25-7 8 -57-(2 342) 7 8 -35-8

Numbers within: — = Means gliding (or almost playing them at the same time)
() = Means switching to an higher octave

You are right, the notation I used there is more than confusing, especially after we’ve all agreed on () being high octave on the flute. The thought behind using brackets in the notation was that you can leave out the notes in brackets for some kind of “Easy Mode” where you still have the main melody. Wasn’t the best idea I had by now

I thought about rewriting my tabs to use () as high and [] as low octave and to write chords/gliding like 1/3/5. At least these are notations I see commonly used in different tabs by different people. Maybe we should agree on some kind of notation for the tabs we share to prevent further confusion… I think I’ve caused enough

EDIT:
It took me a while, but here are the updated tabs:

5 1/3/5 (13 21) 7 4/6/8 64 8686 4/5/7 54 8 4/6 7 3/5/8 (23 12)
1/3/5 5 1/3/5 (13 21) 7 4/6/8 64 8686 2/5/7 8 5/7/(2 342) 78 3/5/8

Key:
(123) = notes to be played in high octave
123 = notes to be played in mid octave
[ 123 ] = notes to be played in low octave
1/2/3 = chord (can also be played over more than one octave – indicated by brackets as mentioned above)

I also updated all harp and horn tabs in my youtube channel to follow the same notation and will keep that up for all future videos.

I find it strange that some people are trying to defend Anet on this.
The fact is that a popular convenience has been removed from the game and placed behind a paywall. That is not in dispute even by the most avid fanboy.

I still don’t see the “paywall” everyone is talking about, given the fact that all the services are still available. Instead of clicking the pass, you can use a single Asura portal – so you don’t even have to put additional effort into accessing the services. This has nothing to do with fan girling over ArenaNet but simply with seeing some basic connections that seem to escape some people’s notices here. It seems some have never played games where there are real paywalls and P2W models (or it’s just too long ago to remember?). Lucky you.

In Real-Life, something like this would not be tolerated by any population. Imagine the government decided you had to pay for a licence to access services on the internet.
’It’s only a minor inconvenience – you can still go shopping in town and visit the library for information etc.’ Can you imagine the uproar?

The message is for Anet. It should be clear and unequivocal. It’s only a pity some people are so dumb that they prefer not to serve their own best interest.

I would understand the “uproar” if you had to run all the way from Gendarran to Rata Sum (or any other city) in order to access these services what would be the closest to the example above. But that’s not the case. Therefore this is a very strange comparison (even ignoring the fact that you are comparing RL to a game)… Btw.: calling people dumb because they don’t share your interests doesn’t make your statement more valid nor does it make it more valuable in any way.

Did people really just manage to discuss about the airship pass for 8 pages? Did I miss something – like devs invading player’s homes and forcing them with a gun to buy the pass?

No, they only installed a lock on our shower (key to which we can borrow from them for a price). This is apparently not a problem, because we can still go and shower in our neighbour’s house however.

Well… if the neighbour is good looking, why not. He even has a whirlpool! I don’t miss my shower at all.

Jokes aside – I guess it’s useless discussing this. As I already said I always used the crafting stations in Rata Sum. LA was too crowded and the different services were too much spread over the map for my taste – so I simply don’t miss it (as a hub – but as a city with its architecture/art I miss it). So I already was “showering at my neighbour’s house”

I see the pass as a convenience item I will never buy, because I already have the same convenience elsewhere. If walking through an Asura portal is too much work, then buying the pass would be an option. All I tried to do with my post was, to make people aware of the fact that there are more than enough other options apart from buying the ticket.
