Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti here.

I still get shadow flickering – e.g. in Arah path 1 in the “cannon” room right before the boss, where you have to carry the crystals through. Sadly I don’t have a screenshot of that.

Also, I get the checkerboard artifacts in Draconis Mons around the minimap – please see also the attached screenshot.

Driver verion 385.41 – but happened also on previous versions.

Also attached, my graphics settings.

Reminds me of those Rich Mithril Nodes in SW, where you still can only mine one of them completely. As soon as you’ve mined the first one, the other only allows one gathering hit.

Maybe this is related?

At least in my case I’m quite sure I’ve mined an Ancient Sapling on the new map before I only could swing once at the other nodes… I will check again once I’m home from work though.

Dunno if you have your computer set up for the highest graphics, but it was fixed when you had it as such. I ran around with it for about a week with no issue. Granted the fix came with the dampening of the glow as a whole on full graphics, but it was fixed. Now the glow has been re-intensified, but it’s once more glowing through the back of the head on full graphics.

I’ve made a screen of my settings next to my character, since I don’t know which settings I should set higher in my case in order to see the “intensified” glow (if you or anyone else in this thread could help me out, I would be very thankful).

However, it should be clear from my screen, why I feel the glow (and any other effects really) are insufficient. I don’t see how this look can be intended behaviour, especially when viewed next to the preview window where you can see the intended look (but with the shining through bug).

I think most of the people who voted for the fix thought ANet would only fix the shining through thing, and not tone down the effect to such a degree it isn’t even visible.

EDIT:

I still suspect that in case of Asura the glow effect is somewhere behind the eyes. I’ve added another screen to this post, on which you can kind of see the position of the light source, which shines through the forehead (still).

EDIT2:

What wasn’t clear when the Visage first arrived or when Mr O’Brien spoke of alternatives to how it might look was that… it’s not really a conventional ‘skin’. It’s a glowing animation that appears just in front of the eyes, which I supposed allows us to see our hair (not usually possible with headgear).

Unfortunately that design means that if it’s too bright, it will shine through objects at certain angles under certain resolutions. And, apparently their graphics QA didn’t check all the thousands of potential settings.

That one, I don’t agree with. There is a quite similar gemstore skin, which can pull off the glow without shining through (as far as I can tell – see third and fourth screen). I don’t own the gemstore skin, but maybe someone who owns it can confirm that the glow works as intended there.

Also, the thought that you need to use a “certain resolution” so a skin works as it should… That does not sound like “working as intended” to me either.

It never stopped doing that. I noticed it right after the “fix”.

What bothers me even more is that on Asura the glow effect is now nearly invisible from the front. The glow effect still seems to be somewhere behind the eyes/hidden somewhere inside the head. The aura effect (the floaty blood around the head) doesn’t show at all. Maybe it was scaled down to the point it’s also somewhere inside the head.

That’s a pity, I really liked the skin for what it was supposed to look like. I really wanted to use it on my thief. I hope ANet will have another look at that skin and have it fixed somehow…

Thank you for taking the time to ask though!

However, I’ve never had any problems with similar amounts of disconnects prior to the latest patch.

Selling SAB

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rayti.6531

I see this as a good thing where players are helping players achieve. Where players are using their skills and abilities together and compensating each other. In the end, both parties are happy and successful. Much like how our entire civilization functions in real life.

What I see as a bad thing, is the elitist “buut… it’s my shiny” people trying to deny this from occurring. And, this is not just with SAB but, every time new content comes out. It’s utterly selfish behavior and should not be promoted in game as it is not in real life.

Thank you for clarifying Chris. Glad Anet see’s the common sense in allowing this.

I think you are mistaking “playing by the rules” with “elitist buut… it’s my shiny”.

I’ve been working on the SAB collections since it is out again, finished the green weapons last weekend and in the evenings after work and am finishing the yellow ones this weekend. I’m no speed runner but also not slow at it and had to practice to achieve that, so yes: these are my shinies and I earned them “the hard way”.

That doesn’t mean I’m elitist or an egoist though. I’m helping out my friends in tribulation mode by showing them the path through it, showing them alternative routes if they want to get through there without being able to do a dodge jump, etc. – i.e. helping people within the limits of the user agreement and therefore spending much more time in there than needed. Contrary to the exploiters, I gain nothing by doing that besides some tears of gratitude… :-P

The people who exploit and sell tribulation mode though, are focused on their own gain and get quite a lot of gold. People who don’t use exploits missed out on that gold – deliberately and in the hope that the ban hammer would come (as it did for far “lesser” exploits). So it’s understandable that these players might not be so happy with the decision by ANet to not do anything about it (apart from a fix that might or might not come “soon”)…

SAB problem - tokens AFTER full collection?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

I think you are overestimating the amount of people who are sick enough to finish that collection…

OK, I have to admit I’m one of them… Yet, with speedruns around 3min/4min already yielding ~250 baubles, I can’t see another 250 baubles to be a reasonable price for the one token, on top of the baubles you already get per run.

Also, this would only lead to people farming the same zone over and over again (which is what they already do).

I could imagine turning in a full set of tokens (per world) for a bauble bubble or something similar though.

Maybe this would make zone 3 more interesting and make up for the missing bauble reward in that zone…

It should just be permanent. Keep separate SAB dailies for the orange weapons and make people do them at their leisure, without them feeling like a chore.
If there is something i hate with a passion, it’s being forced to do something because of a timegate. Especially when it is possible only within 3 weeks out of a year.
Add a world every 1st april, and that’s it. Fresh new content when the festival comes, eventually make items cheaper on festival time to incentive people doing SAB at that time, and let’s be done.

I can’t +1 this enough.

Whether you leave them permanent or not makes no impact on development resources.

It actually does. Consider how often patches break something in the game that had nothing to do with it. If SAB was permanent, they’d have to fix it every time it was broken, compared to only once a year as a festival.

Actually, fixing bugs with each iteration/patch is less work in most cases. Tracking down bugs you introduced in a timespan of a whole year is a chore I wouldn’t want to do – especially within a few weeks before SAB has to be reopened again…

As already mentioned several times in different threads, a glider skin for each ascended Spinal Blades varaint would be nice.

In regards to the gliding animation, there are different opinions on what it should look like. In my opinion it should be the animation shown by the assault knights before the fight begins (or something similar) – as seen at the beginning of the following video:

EDIT:
Actually, the “flapping” animation would only fit for slow gliding (when pressing “S”)… For normal gliding and fast gliding, other animations would be better. Like e.g.:
Normal gliding speed = Normal position of the blades + jetpack on
Fast gliding speed = Blades a bit folded + jetpack on

No idea if it is even possible to assign different glider animations to the different gliding modes…

I purchased the Infinite Continue Coin expecting SAB to be around for a while, or at least more frequent… just to never be able to use it.

If it’s never coming back can I get a gems refund for it?

Most people who have asked for a refund, have been told NO, as SAB might come back 1 day, therefore they will not issue a refund.

Its not coming back, its been the same excuse for years now, gliding shouldn’t affect it, as it should be turned off in SAB, what other possible things could have changed, if you bought the Inf Coin you pretty much lost out, it was shady marketing tactics, if Anet has said when the launched the Inf Coin that, when you buy this, we will be turning SAB off for good, im fairly sure that no one would have bought it,

So please just announce that SAB isn’t coming back, so that we don’t keep asking for it, and allow us to trade the Coin in for something of equal value,

I would hate to think this topic needs moved to reddit to get a real reply.

Several SAB models have been datamined just recently, hinting at the SAB being in the works. Also, there have been changes to the physics of GW2 which have nothing to do with gliding, like the fall dmg fix (when running down a slope) and could very well affect the SAB.

Also, one guy who got stuck in the SAB by mistake before it closed down and has seen it in its current state (not really current but a few months ago) has confirmed it is utterly broken. Missing collision and buggy terrain being just a few of the problems mentioned by that player.

Yeah, the SAB is closed down for a few years now and we want it back. No reason to put on a tinfoil hat and talk about “shady marketing tactics” when there is proof there is indeed enough to be fixed about the SAB. I’d rather have it in a playable state than ANet opening it for the sake of having it open, regardless of whether it’s playable or not.

There is nothing impossible about this hero point/map completion in Auric Basin. All you need to do is to either

  • stick around the map, taxi in people for events, do events and taxi in more people before the Octovine event starts
  • use the lfg tool shortly before the Octovine event starts to get to a good overflow

To find out when the event starts, use one of the many event timers, like e.g. http://dulfy.net/2015/11/09/gw2-hot-maps-timer-famme/

At this point, the Octovine event hardly ever fails (provided the map is populated). If you can’t find a populated map on lfg, start your own “organization”.

EDIT: I forgot you were asking for a guild or anyone doing organized meta events. I don’t know if you are on NA or EU and also can’t provide any guilds. But for EU servers, you could try http://gw2community.com/

Also, account bound harvesting tool slots would be nice (yeah I know, people with multiple sets of harvesting tools might not like that idea… but one can still dream, right?)

One thing that bugs me about the account bount inventory slots: I would like to be able to move those slots elsewhere (bottom of inventory), since that’s where my salvage kits and such are normally placed. I find the placement in the top row rather annoying tbh.

So please tell me how I can improve my reaction time

By not making excuses and actively going out of your way, even though it may not be appealing or easy and just taking small steps.

Eventually you will build up muscle memory and be able to do the puzzle almost instinctively.

You made me laugh. Maybe I should get a personal trainer for that. Oh wait, GW is a game and Wintersday is a festival, maybe a bit exaggerated. I’m not making excuses, me not being able to do this is the third sure thing, between death and taxes. I wasted a lot of time till now on that and I will not waste anymore.

In case you change your mind at some point: You could try and watch a few videos of other people doing the JP. There are 3 different paths – that’s something to keep in mind.

However, once you know the paths you don’t need “reaction time” – at least not for the normal jumping part. The paths don’t change unexpectedly and the timing/timer for platform despawns is always the same (as are the timings for wind, snowballs, etc.).

The only part I could imagine to require some reaction time are the parcels after the checkpoint. But even there, there are safer paths to pick where they don’t pop too fast/much. Just keep in mind, that other players trigger the parcels as well, so maybe you should jump over the parcels when there aren’t many other players there.

I like the new aura animations. Much less obtrusive and classy looking.

There’s something wrong with you. How are almost invisible eggs “classy”? Since when were auras ever intrusive?

Since a already cluttered group of ppl fighting turned into a x-mass tree of orange orbs fighting. Try joining a fight at mid point in pvp. Even with auras nerfed it’s already a clusterkitten in terms of readability. And don’t even get me started on what happens when mesmers and minion master necros join the party..

Most PvPers I know complain about the new aura animations due to readability (i.e. lack thereof). Not being able to tell apart auras or even see them in the first place is a major problem and can cause more harm than the “clutter” they produce.

There are so many skill effects that cause clutter – the fact that skill impacts scale with the target they hit is the main problem though. You simply can’t read skill animations behind huge flames covering the attacker. Nerfing the animations of skills that are actually important to read won’t change that – it will just make readability worse than it already is. I just hope that ANet won’t nerf every single skill animation before they find that out. But if they do, I at least hope they’ll add an option to the graphics settings. That’s something that should have been done right from the start anyway.

If you are doing this for competitive play, then I really have to ask myself how my opponents are supposed to see e.g. which aura I have currently up… (except for looking at the buff bar)

You are ruining the look and feel of this game step by step. And it hurts me to see this happening, especially as a long-time player who had the opportunity to enjoy this game in it’s original glory.

It was already annoying when they changed Earth skill 2 on staff ele and the Earth 5 skill on offhand dagger – those animations are tiny now und don’t fit the DMG they make – the sound of them also doesn’t really fit the animation anymore… Before, these skills felt powerful when you cast them.

To me, these changes take away a very important aspect/selling point of this game. The combat felt good (due to the animations, the way the sound team created fitting sounds to these animations, etc.). Now it doesn’t.

Please change the animations back and add an option for reducing the animation size or add it to the already existing sliders for toning down animations. I have them maxed out for a reason – I enjoy the animations and rarely have any problems seeing boss attacks.

The only situation where I have problems reading boss animations is in meta events with “small” bosses. I already hide many character models due to that. If only the game would remove the skill animations of these hidden characters as well, there would not be a problem.

There is also access to the underwater tunnel network from the south-west WP of the map (where the portal to Dragon’s Stand is). Changing Stats on Specialization Weapons

I recently tried to change the stats on my ascended Bo staff (with selected Marauder stats) to Berserker/Zojja stats, using the Mystic Forge recipe (5 Ectos, 1 Exo Berserker’s Inscription, Anthology of Heroes, Staff).

Instead of receiving a Zojja’s Spire I ended up with a Staff with different stats (Maklain’s Spire – see attached screen).

Only on using the same MF recipe again on the staff I received, I could successfully change the stats to Berserker. So I ended up using double the mats it would normally require to change the stats on the staff.

Is this intended behaviour or an oversight?

EDIT: since I cannot reproduce this “bug” with other specialization weapons, I guess I just messed up by choosing the wrong inscription (maybe the one you get as a reward from the story was in my inventory at the time). Sorry for the confusion.

First of all, your text is very difficult to read, not because of “bad English” or anything (it’s not my mother tongue either) but the lack of punctuation.

I tend to chak it up to (look at me making HoT puns XD ) posting angry. Which is kinda sad since at least some of his points although hyperbolic (well I’m using hyperbolic in the rather plebeian sense) are accurate.

xD

Well, yeah. It’s clear the OP was angry while creating this thread. I didn’t mean to offend with my remark. I merely mentioned it in case I missed something in the post on the first read trough.

I definitely understand where the OP is coming from. The story doesn’t feel complete at this point. I’m still putting my hopes in the next few “story steps”, be it raids, living story or further personal story chapters.

As far as I understood from announcements, interviews, blog posts, etc. there will be further living story episodes once ANet has finished the polishing of HoT (bugfixing, balancing and such). The story will move on through raid instances as well (which take place right after the “ending” of the HoT main story). So it’s not over yet – the open ending cinematic hinted at that as well.

Yeah but I’ve been wondering, should ANet address plot threads in LS S3 or would it be better to not focus on S3 but rather to add additional chapters to the HoT PS address some of the more major plot-holes. Although doing so would open ANet to more angry posts about how they ‘sold a broken / incomplete product’, maybe doubling down and say ‘well HoT is how we wanted it to be’ might in terms of PR be the better choice… I’d still imagine that many issues could be addressed by adding another chapter here or there which would provide clarification or expansion on certain details so they don’t feel like they come out of the blue.

Maybe it’s a bit of both. Adding a few chapters inbetween for clarification and then continue through LS 3.

The best would be an overhaul of the core personal story, LS 1 (to make it accessible to newcomers who missed it), LS 2 (e.g. to solve the plot hole regarding Mordremoth’s name suddenly being known to everyone without ever mentioning it before), maybe additional chapters to the HoT story… Basically: rounding things up a bit. Currently the story can be very confusing, especially for those who missed out on LS 1.

So basically I agree with the OP to a certain degree, but think it’s too early to judge the HoT story since it isn’t complete yet. In my opinion they learned a lot since the personal story and LS 1. The overall quality of the story, presentation, voice acting etc. seems to have improved. I liked how they dealt with the mechanics of the last fight in HoT and how it somehow ties in with the DS meta event. The last fight didn’t feel right until I did the meta event though (that’s why I recommended it to the OP).

First of all, your text is very difficult to read, not because of “bad English” or anything (it’s not my mother tongue either) but the lack of punctuation.

I take from your text that you are unhappy with the story telling in the expansion – most of all that the story is too short and leaves too many questions unanswered. I’ve read that before on the forums, so I guess you are not alone with that.

As far as I understood from announcements, interviews, blog posts, etc. there will be further living story episodes once ANet has finished the polishing of HoT (bugfixing, balancing and such). Regarding the fight against the “dragon” – I don’t know if you already did the Dragon’s Stand (fourth map) meta event. But if you didn’t, I’d recommend to you to go there and have a look at it.

Guild Halls, and the One-Man Guild.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

The point is, there needs to be some encouragement for people to join established guilds or at least, some encouragement to not just make single player guilds, because bigger guilds suffer.

I don’t see anyone “suffering” because there are 1-man guilds. Most people who have a bank guild of some sort are in one or more “normal” guilds as well. Especially now, where you don’t need to represent a guild in order to see the guild chat it’s getting more and more common for people (and also less of a problem than before) to be in more than one guild at the same time.

I have all my guild slots filled. To me, guilds are a social aspect of this game and an integral part of it. I’m not really interested in how many members my guild has and how “established” it is – to me guilds are the place where my ingame friends with similar interest are. And that would not change by opening up guild halls to smaller guilds.

I also have one guild slot filled by my own bank guild, and I’d enjoy having my own guild hall to play with/hide in every now and then. There are so many different reasons why people might want their own guild hall:

e.g. I enjoy JPs and would like to build my own in my guild hall – which I would probably not be welcome to do in my main guild’s guild hall. Maybe I don’t like the guild hall my guild chose for some reason…? Some people just enjoy upgrading/building things.

I don’t see any problem with opening up guild halls for smaller guilds. It already is possible to get your own guild hall with a little bit of help (upgrading is a different thing though). It would be more of a problem, if you could do EVERYTHING a guild can do on your own. Like finishing all types of guild missions alone – but that’s not the case. We are just talking about access to a specific map – which would not harm bigger guilds in any way.

Luck Sink past 300%

43 posts and no one suggesting they should just unbound essence of luck so it can be sold on the trading post.

Wouldn’t that be kinda greedy?

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. :-)

Seriously though: that way people who already capped MF could make profit from those who couldn’t cap MF by now. Also it would most likely result in more people salvaging ectoplasm, since it’s the most reliable way to get huge amounts of luck essences (and therefore would pay off again – which isn’t the case right now). That would further inflate the ectoplasm price, etc. etc.

In other words: I think it would affect the economy, depending on how much gold people are willing to pay for the luck essences. Also, it would only partly solve the problem, since more and more people would reach the cap that way. As soon as this happens, luck would have no value (again), since there wouldn’t be an incentive to buy it on the TP anymore. We would be back to our original problem and need a luck sink again.

Maybe making luck an equivalent to junk items would be enough for now. Just let them be sold with the “sell junk” button and give a few copper in return – that would be the most convenient way to just get rid of the stacks which result from salvaging. Anything better than that (like further recipes, an “eater”, whatever) would be a nice extra, but not necessary at all – at least in my opinion.

Also, adding the recipe for converting exo to legendary luck would help those people who still want to hold on to the luck, just in case the cap will be raised in the future. That would free up lots of space in our bank…

Greed knows no bounds.

There are 2 scenario’s which allowed you to cap mf to 300%

  • You are filthy rich and bought your way to 300% mf through ToT bags or whatever means
  • You salvage items bought from the TP to resale the broken down materials for a profit

There is zero reason to give people gold (because that is what this sink is about, turning something you have no use for into something profitable) for essence of luck, non.

But here is an idea:

  • Turn in a stack of exotic essence of luck for a stack of bloodstone dust/dragonite ore/empyreal fragments

Good thing not all players are salty for no reason like this guy god forbid it affects players besides him.

Someone disagrees with me, better call him salty without providing any arguments why essense of luck should get a sink.

Just a question, how do I get to Neverland? Might as well ask an inhabitant.

That’s an interesting statement for someone, who posted something that mostly translates into “someone reached 300 MF before me – better call them greedy regardless of how they reached the cap, what kind of luck sink they expect (profit generating or not…) etc.”.

You also didn’t provide any arguments why there should not be a sink (calling everyone who disagrees with you greedy is not a valid argument btw.).

Let’s just be glad that the decision in that regard isn’t made by you but by people who actually know whether it is a good idea to have useless items in the game and in what extend a sink for said items would affect the economy of the game. The fact that there already are some recipes that use luck essences shows that those people at least think there should be other uses for luck. It’s just a question of whether there will be additional ones to make the sink for the huge amounts of luck you get from different sources more efficient…

There is zero reason to give people gold (because that is what this sink is about, turning something you have no use for into something profitable) for essence of luck, non.

There are other means of capping MF. It “happened” to me when I crafted my first two legendaries + lots of the “expensive” t6 agony infusions – no profit there. It was for my own use. Since I upgraded t5 to t6 mats for that and salvaging ectos was cheaper than straight out buying dust back then, it was only a matter of time until I hit the cap.

But here’s the thing: the reason why a person already has hit the cap should not be the deciding factor for whether or not a luck sink will be added to the game. Regardless of when you hit the cap, as soon as you do, there is a useless material using up inventory and bank space. I even stopped salvaging items because it is annoying to clear up my inventory of luck every single time and I generally don’t throw things away, which could some day become useful again in some way (see ascended rings, bloodstone dust, etc.). Sooner or later, you will also run into this (or at least a similar) problem.

This has nothing to do with greed. I don’t expect any profit from a luck sink, just some kind of use for the material.

But here is an idea:

  • Turn in a stack of exotic essence of luck for a stack of bloodstone dust/dragonite ore/empyreal fragments

I’m not sure whether this was some kind of joke or a serious suggestion, but I would be totally OK with that. At least I’d have some use for my stacks of luck.

Are portraits supposed to move?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Rayti.6531

Rayti.6531

As far as I know, the portrait of a character in the party UI is a snapshot of the char from the moment he/she entered a map/instance/the party. This includes transformations and/or the current expression on his/her face, and also slight variations in positioning, depending on where in the idle animation the character currently was.

So “moving” or changing portrait pictures are normal.

Seems like Arenanet needs to come up with another reason we cannot test until some guy breaks into SAB to prove them wrong. So far, it just looks like Arenanet just couldn’t care less about SAB and threw anything that came into their mind as reasons to us.

It looks barely bugged at all. Anet lied to us.

If you guys took the time to read through the reddit post (+ comments) where the video has been posted, you would also have seen the comments by the player who got stuck in the SAB. He is writing about missing/broken collision detection, broken projectiles, endless continue room (you get stuck there when you run out of lifes) etc. he encountered in there…

These are only a few bugs from World 2-1 (first zone). All the other zones were blocked from the player, according to his original post on reddit. Do you really think these are the only bugs in existence after all the changes made to the game (most prominent change which could affect the SAB: fall dmg fixes)?

Also: The abovementioned bugs might sound like minor bugs to you, but the cause for them could lie very deep in the code and need some time to get fixed.

Releasing the SAB in its current state would only result in a lot of complaints on the forums about said bugs and could also lead to the certain, permanent death of the SAB. Just imagine you were a new player who heard about this epic instanced content which is the SAB from veterans, and then the first time you get to play it, it’s a bugged, nearly unplayable mess. Do you think such a player would enjoy it and/or ever go in there again?

Don’t get me wrong, I want the SAB back as much as everyone here… But I’d rather have it in its fixed state than in a broken one.

Constant DC during Mordrem events

Actually, these DCs can come from anything on the route to the ANet servers (defective hardware at any of the hops). Telling the OP it’s “only him/her” is a funny thing to do, when there are several threads about the DCs on this very subforum, even on the first page (this changes over time though, but there are several complaining either about DCs or severe lag)…

Heart of Thorns is a copy-and-paste fest. Do you really think people aren’t going to notice you’ve scaled up Hylek and pasted some rock-dog, beetles, and spiders before calling it a day?

I will cover that “copy-and-paste” part below.

The creatures you’ve made are really no-effort creatures. Here’s a single creature from DAoC:
http://camelot.allakhazam.com/Mobs/pics/b01/h-tangle-weed.jpg

There’s more effort put into that level 1 creature than anything ‘new’ I’ve seen in Heart of Thorns.

To me, THAT is a genetic accident. I don’t see the effort you are talking about.

Wow! A walking tree/Ent from LotR. Never seen anything like that before. cough copy-paste cough

Looks like a mix between a Murloc and a standard sea monster taken from old horror movies. Copy-paste much?

Oh, an angry walking tree. Now that changes everything

… All of the stuff from DAoC is exciting. Fresh. Original.

See above.

OK… I wouldn’t call a tree frog a genetic accident – even though you could argue that evolution is based on “genetic accidents” (kinda, it’s not that simple though)…

It seems clear to me, that you prefer the enemy design in other games over the one ANet came up with. That’s all fair and good – to each his/her own.

However, talking about original design where there is none, is kinda unfair – especially considering there is much more innovation in the few mobs ANet added in HoT than in any of your examples.
