More news on GW2 regarding servers around the world from someone who’s known to bring a lot of accurate news on certain Chinese forum(said to be working in NCSoft).

  1. There will be an “Asian server”, different from “Chinese server”
  2. Asian server is worked by and will be ran by NCSoft itself, while the Chinese server is going to be ran by a company named “Kong Zhong”
  3. There will be Chinese, Japanese, and Korean interface in the Asian client, as well as Korean voice-over
  4. Simplified Chinese will be in Chinese server only
  5. Players who uses client by Anet/NCSoft will be able to decide to join the Asian server besides NA and EU while playing the game for the first time

I have my slider to the shortest as well, and yet sometimes I can be in a zone for a full hour and no music will ever play.

Only way I can get any music to play is if I round up a bunch of mobs so the combat music will start playing.

This, it’s annoying that music sometimes doesn’t play for a long time even if music interval is at the lowest, and when it finally plays, it’s playing ambient playlist 5 minutes into a large fight.

Those armors are temporary placeholders (that already exist in the game), and the Legendary Store is a fake.

I’m pretty sure that Chinese server won’t be. F2P and pay to win.

Yeah, guesting was said to be world wide and unlocked dyes were advertised to be account bound.

Pay to Win is impossible if NA and EU players can transfer to the Asian servers so that rumor already holds no water (else we could go to Asian server, buy our pay to win stuff and transfer back along with the items).

Chinese server and Asian server are completely separate.

Honestly, I prefer the Chinese version of the female warrior, so I wouldn’t mind the placeholder variants being available as well.

Fyi, all armors other than light armor placeholders are in game.
You should at least take the effort of looking through an armor gallery before saying you want that “placeholder variant.”

Pet skills not working upon use

As for the rest of your post I agree fully, I hate it when my pet goes “YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH BADGES TO CONTROL ME!!” And not use their skills.

This, especially at times when your pet is using skills other than its auto. It’ll ignore your commands, sometimes even won’t respond to F3. And repeatedly press F2 canceling the skill is really annoying too when you don’t even know if the pet will listen to you or not.

So I tested it myself with a 7 level difference instead of OP’s 8/9

Here’s pet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqZacWJ3xXI

And here’s bow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyGtMYuIxbs

With the pet, it is entirely possible for them to hit that high with that big of a level difference, furthermore, in OP’s case, the pet is the only thing mobs can target and attack, they don’t chase the ranger around, which is why his wolf was able to pump out consistent damage.

And then the longbow, As you can see I’m clearly not using a zerker build and attacking a normal mob instead of a hatchling. My damage has nearly quadrupled with the 7 level difference, from 500 to 2k, in OP’s case, 2k to 8k, which is the same ratio.

I see a logical disconnect here. What exactly are you trying to get at? As long as the bot and the main account of the bot remain mutually exclusive, the main account will not be detected as a bot’s main account.

Sure, I suppose that bots could make a guild for the sole purpose of gold selling. However, that will just be a guild of bots. They wouldn’t invite a regular player into a guild like that because again: blown cover. It is also true the other way around: a bot or gold seller wouldn’t do his business in a public guild either because their covers will be blown.

So your point is moot.

I’ll just tell you the method outright, although I’m not a botter myself.

At first there wasn’t so much of a gold selling prevention, gold sellers could send their gold pretty much to anyone without being banned. After report and the gold sending detection were built in, guild bank transaction became popular among gold sellers, they would just invite their customers into their guild and let them take a certain amount of gold that they put into the guild bank. During that time players could transfer servers daily and free, so guild influence in different server wasn’t much of a problem.

Then it came the paid-to-transfer period. Gold sellers found it to be troublesome that customers are harder to reach now. Then someone found that guild transport solves the problem. As long as they call out vault transport in an instance which the gold sellers created, the gold sellers’ bank will be transported, then customers would have no problem taking the gold from there.

Now, Anet has banned the vault transport from instances, which effectively stop one method of gold transfering. Again, I’m not a botter nor a gold seller, but I hope this information helps.

How does that stop the guild sellers? The vault transports are just more difficult to get now for large guilds, and impossible to get for small ones.

Bots can’t get merits, so they’re automatically blocked from exploiting the vault transport. It might not have been the greatest solution, but I can’t think of a better one. Can you?

Are you saying I can’t let bots join my guild which may or may not have the vault transport?

Oh you can, but why in the world would you? Why in the world would they join as well since it blows their cover?

Hmm, do you think those botters wouldn’t have regular account that they actually play on?

Sure, but does that blow the cover on their undercover botting/gold selling? No.

And have you considered that they would make their own guild just for the gold selling activity, since bank gold transaction between guild members are so wildly different and most of the time in large amounts you can’t really tell if it’s regular players or gold selling. And once a bot has been found, my guess would be that Anet wouldn’t waste time checking guild activity on that account and go straight to the ban hammer.

What, in your opinion Swiftpaw, makes warriors more effective? Not that I am debating you. I’m just trying to see, in general, how people play and view professions.

Because PvE mobs are not players, especially dungeon bosses, they will not move out of damage on their own. Warriors, having hundred blade, the one single highest attack, low cool down, consistent damage of all professions, can deal the most damage. In a perfect world where every player knows the dungeon like the back of their hand, warriors(with the help of time-warp-profession) can clear dungeons most effectively. Of course, this is only optimal in a party with all very-experienced players.

WvW video may be slightly tougher seeing as bottom tier there rent that many people. The zergs here don’t get that big (10-20 ppl) but I will try to get some footage when I can.

Oh wow lol, CoF path 2, I guess I asked for it, should have said no CoF ever. Sure, go ahead and finish your 2nd easiest dungeon run.

And bottom tier? I guess that explains why it’s so desperate that a ranger could be an important role in zergs.

So you using another weapon will make you versatile at 1500 range how?

Why do you have to be so obsessed about that 1500 range? Does that extra 300 range bother you that much? Like other classes just can’t close that close of a gap?

It’s not about closing the gap. It’s about what the extra 300 range means.

More targets hit with piercing arrows.
Able to stay out of combat area completely whilst still contributing.

The strategic value of the extra 300 cannot be seen in a duel situation. Look at all teh other aspects of the game.

Please, address this issue and explain it in your “soon to come” video. Perhaps some zerg footage of you killing off enemies with your barrage, the more the better, around 20 kills per hours of WvW is convincing enough to me(If you’re on a tier 1/2 server anyways), don’t forget to turn on in-game clock for that.

In a 1v1 duel, who uses longbow? the weapon was not designed for it. I thought this was obvious. Your using a point that the LB is not a versatile weapon because it does not operate outside of what it was designed for.

The LB is part of what makes Rangers versatile. It is not THE thing that makes the Ranger versatile. Did you even read what I wrote or just skimmed it then continue to push your point about the longbow?

Hmm? I thought you said longbow is viable in all kinds of fights? What I’m pointing out is, what you said in this post.

Versatile at range.

The power of the pet mechanic.

What’s so versatile about longbow? I must know this, because apparently you rock everywhere with your traited 1500 range godly longbow.

That’s just it, your all too focused on what kind of damage you can get out of the Ranger. Quite simply, the Ranger was not designed for burst damage. If it were teh case it would hit as hard as a warrior. The fact that it does not and that it will not get a damage buff on ranged weapons is because it was not designed to be omfg damage dealer.

What is so versatile about the longbow? its about as versatile as any other weapon any other class has at 1500 range. What makes it versatile is the synergy it has with the class mechanics.

The damage from LB is a high sustain damage. You alter this by using the pet mechanics. Birds and Cats for more DPS (factoring these damage it does go quite high) CC in the form of various pets. My personal favourite are the Dogs. AoE burst from drakes.

All of these pets can also be used at maxed range, haven’t tested how far the pets actually go yet but I know its FAR.

You can try to get a potential damage figure by taking the classes and using it at max range to calculate the sustained damage from the 1500 range weapon. Then you factor in the utilities and class mechanics. This should give an overall final figure as to the 1500 range effectiveness of the class based on damage only. If damage is all you are looking for then stop here. I you want more to a class then damage, then you factor in other things like support, and playstyle.

At the end you will have an image of what the design of the class is. Then you compare the design of the class with how you were expecting the class to be and how you think the class should be.

Is the class broken because it was always broken, or is the class broken because people just don’t understand how it was meant to work.

You said longbow is versatile, not pets are versatile, while giving example of how you completely rely on pets for your so called “versatility.” The only thing you said about longbow for the whole post is “sustained damage, sustained damage, range, and sustained damage.” We don’t care how many times you repeat it, if the only thing it brings to the table is ranged sustained damage, it isn’t versatile. It isn’t THE thing that makes ranger versatile. Just as I said, all you’re pointing out is pets, I could be the same or even more versatile ranger if I use any other weapon than longbow.

Furthermore, bring up warrior in discussion of PvP? Really? I hope you’re not going to say that warrior is just as viable in PvP as any other class, because it isn’t. Bring this up just makes you lose even more of your credibility.

Except that no one will stay farther than 1000 range when you’re fighting 1v1, which brings us back onto the topic of longbow viability. The only 3 utilities it offers are vulnerability, cripple, and a knock back. The vulnerability effects too little in a 1v1 fight, and it’s too easy to reach max in a zerg, it is great in dungeons, but that’s about it. The knock back isn’t far, it doesn’t cripple, and it doesn’t cause any other conditions, it’s way too easy to recover from in any kind of fight, and it’s really situational in PvE. Rapid fire and barrage are good for PvE, but horrible in any form of PvP. Sure, a mass cripple and impressive damage sounds all good and well, but the thing is, one dodge roll, just one, nullify the whole skill effectiveness even if you were in the center of it. Rapid fire is a great damage tool, potentially, but again, it suffers the same defect of dodge rolling nullifying the skill.

The damage from LB is a high sustain damage. You alter this by using the pet mechanics. Birds and Cats for more DPS (factoring these damage it does go quite high) CC in the form of various pets. My personal favourite are the Dogs. AoE burst from drakes.

This has nothing to do with whatever weapon set you’re using, the “versatility,” so to speak, comes from the pets, not longbow. Your longbow does not offer this “versatility.” Heck, by your standard I could use any other weapon and be more versatile than longbow.

I would agree with Astral, mesmer is always useful in some form no matter what kind of setting it’s in. It can’t tank really well, but it has great skills to avoid big attacks and provides a lot of supports and utilities. Mesmer is also a great profession for one on one PvP either on land or underwater. Guardian on the other hand, is more fit to your interest. It tanks well with many ways to mitigate/heal damage and superb group defensive support, but it’s one of the least complex profession. I suggest trying both in several dungeons, or PvP if they aren’t high level enough, before deciding which one to main.

@Zenith, oh, I don’t know how the ICD works? Please tell me more about how I don’t understand such a simple system!!

PS: it’s per player bro, not spirit.

Group effect, duh. The problem is how you exaggerate the ffect of a 1 sec burn proc on a 10 sec ICD.

I’m glad you+your hyenas can stack 4 secs of burning every 10 seconds. Too bad a condi engineer can do that even better and more reliably.

It actually gives 3-second burn, with the effective proc of up to 5 party members, resulting in a 15-second burn with a 10 second internal cool down. If the spirit can be kept alive for the whole duration of a fight, it could provide perma-burn on 1 target.

Is the value of the burn renewed by the player with the highest condition damage, or does the value change to a lower one if someone with no condition damage proc it. And without focusing a target, what’s the actual uptime of the burning? 3/10 seconds, assuming perfectly timed procs?

You don’t need 5 people to keep something permaburned. An elementalist and a guardian can pretty much keep a target burning as well, and an engineer should be able to as well.

I’m not arguing the effectiveness of the spirit itself, I’m only correcting your mistake in numbers and stating the optimal effect you can get from it.

One rez every 85 (68 traited) seconds … and it takes up a utility slot … and is slow … no thanks.

I have yet to have a finish on an opponent ruined by a Ranger using Search & Rescue.

I wasn’t aware that you could use the Search & Rescue shout when your pet was “dead”. if you actually can, I probably haven’t noticed since it has never really stopped me and my constant movement keeps “alive” pets from actually bothering me.

You can still use S&R even if the pet is dead, but its rez speed is as slow as 1/2 of a player rez. It has completely no use in a 1v1 fights, it does not help with 2vX fights because there will always be other players finishing off your downed comrade before he’s rezzed. In a XvX fight, why even bother with the skill? It’s either dead or insta-rezzed, the zerg will do the job in seconds or run away/get obliterated before they even have the chance.

With that said, I do sometimes run it in dungeons myself on rare occasions.

I think the spirit proc chance is fairly good. Just like Durzlla said, the proc effect is per player, not per spirit, so it adds up pretty well in a dungeon fight. However, their range is too small to be able to provide reasonable chance in a mobile boss fight and they die too fast if any boss has large range AoEs (Searing Cauldron Effigy/Subject Alpha/Lupicus). Stone spirit’s protection duration is too short to be efficient, storm spirit’s swiftness has little use in dungeons(and will die in seconds in a WvW zerg fight). In my opinion they need to either tweak the proc chance even higher or make spirits near invulnerable.

So far its a matter of presenting a video to back my claim of Rangers having one of the best effective damage in the game. This is coming.

Another one is to prove how good i am at dueling to prove my point that Ranger has one of the best effective damage in the game. In my OP i already claim thst i am not the best Ranger in the world. Dueling me would just prove my lack of skill in a duel scenario. Has nothing to do with the point if Rangers having one of the best effective damage in the game.

Videos are coming. Just be patient

  • First

But like I said. If a noob Ranger like me can do it, whats stopping you pros?

What exactly is this “it” you’re able to do?

  • Second

… now, back to my question … what is this “it” you’re saying you’re able to accomplish.

Others are, dueling request ignored, dungeon questions ignored, and still not addressing potential damage and actual damage.

For the video, please don’t forget some dungeon run footage of pets actually staying alive for the whole duration of the dungeon, because this thread isn’t just about WvW.

We need discussions with evidences, not just threads with baseless claims.

I used to use Zweihander and Norn greatsword, they’re great if you want to go for the natural look. Modniir and Ogre for the more barbaric approach.

Basically tanky dps, or “bruisers,” focusing on toughness or vitality for the tankiness, while having a bit of power or condition damage to deal some sustained damage.

Looks fairly reflective to me, you just need to find the right time, the right lighting, right dyes, and the right angle for these screenshots.

I never got hit by those things again after I destroyed my first one. They’re just like those noob LB rangers you used to see in WvW(before projectile speed buff). Just walk left and right repeatedly and it won’t ever hit you.
