Hundreds of players are getting this, this is clearly not client-side.
For me it has begun ever since Lost Shores patch, still getting at least 5 of this error per day and severe network lag every 10 minutes.

some do, but I find it boring because they never drop anything good for me. what’s the point of fighting one for 5-10 minutes if you get a green?

sad that people don’t look for challenges only ego gear

Challenge is good, challenge is great, but if I have an hour to play the game and that is it; do I A) spend it taking out one champion or taking out some trash mobs? In essence the trash will drop the same loot with many chances at the loot table as opposed to the champ. I don’t know about you but I look forward to my paycheck every two weeks as I have earned it, with the current drops on the champs it is like a full time job with volunteer pay.

Oh, so you have to think about getting paid while playing a MMO now? Isn’t a game’s purpose for personal enjoyment? Unless you’re playing the game to get paid that is, but that makes you a gold seller wouldn’t it?

Most people think that this type of fights isn’t time-reward efficient, just like how some people do dragon champions but only show up when Claw of Jormag is at 10% health. I personally like this type of challenges, but some just take too long to kill and some have heavy attacks that can down me in one hit, so I only find a few that I can handle, like Alpha Drake in Bloodtide Coast, that Vet spider at Timberline Falls which have near champ health and attack power, and that Champ Jotun in Dredgehaunt Cliffs.

Tips for Solo Completing Orr Zones

Recycle.5493

If I take a low level character into a high level zone, would I get more experience? Like, could I take a level 50 thief into Orr with some stealth kits and just power level?

When you’re fighting mobs 7 levels above you, you’ usually get “glancing”, which is miss, out of most of your attacks. So let’s say you bring that level 50 thief to Orr, you won’t even make a scratch on those risens, thus no exp for you even if you stay in an event. Moreover, with a level different that huge, mobs can always one or two-shot you. The experience you get from gathering is depended on your character level, so gathering at a high level map won’t help at all.

Western taste have long been different from that of Easter gamers. Being pioneers in MMO’s, most games were point-and-click because of PC limitations and most gaming companies take the success of older games and make games that play a lot like them. Far from Westerners’ favorite, which can be summarized as “Cars, Guns, and Sports,” some classic Asian console games are action RPGs. So Easterners, due to the different in taste, try to incorporate these things into MMOs.

That’s my opinion on the topic so far.

Played since BWE2, have three level 80’s and 1 level 60. Haven’t done all the dungeons yet and barely done any in exploration mode, so I’m still working on those. But most of the time I follow my guildies around and help them level their characters so we could do some dungeoneering together later on. Don’t really do PvP and WvWvW nowadays because of the notorious network lag, but once it’s fixed I’ll be spending more time in W3 like I used to.

Gargantula - Worst boss ever

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Recycle.5493

Last time I did it with another person and we had a smooth time, but after its 4th heal we had no time left because we came in late. It’s definitely an easy boss to fight, but the healing is just really annoying and time consuming.

Alpha Drake at Bloodtide Coast is a example of boss done right. Same as Gargantula, it has a time limit in which you need to kill it before Phill the Fisher gets digested. It has fun mechanics like eating players and vomit out small crabs along with its stomach acid. And it has a tail swipe to punish careless melee fighters. It’s the perfect boss to test a characters ability. Now if the tail swipe and normal bite damage increases, and eating a player cause it to heal a little, then it would be perfect.

Let’s start breaking it down one by one.

Started off in LA, and joined a group for a dungeon. The WP was in Orr, and I didn’t have it yet, so I went to Straits of Dev and stared working towards it.

So you joined a party without having the waypoint, which is at the deepest part of Orr, that will take you about 20 minutes to get to from Straits of Devastation.

but didn’t get the popup (thanks Arenanet) when others entered the dungeon, and then the group fell apart.

First, pop-ups only and only if you are in the same map as the party member who have gone into the dungeon, when you are not in the same map as the person, you will not get it. Second, a party doesn’t just “fall apart,” as there are only 2 ways of member leaving the party. First, the members leave by themselves, second, 2 members vote off another member. In this situation, it is more than likely that your party simply cannot wait any longer for you, who does not even have the waypoint, to slowly run there and voted you off the team and proceeded to find another member.

When I got back on, I asked for help with the SP, but no one answered. Asked again, still no response. So, I went off to do my PS. BTW, later I realized that I had two chat windows active (a Map one, and a Whisper one), so I didn’t even see the whispers to me offering to help (thanks again Arenanet).

Chat window are fully optional on showing map, party, guild, whispers, and so on. You can even create a tab which contains all the things including combat-log and emotes. For someone at your level and gameplay time, it is your fault and your fault only for not having the right tab.

For personal story quests, they have always been buggy, so I don’t really blame you. I have had many frustrated moments with them myself.

Oh, and before you say L2P noob, I know I have to.

At least you know, that’s a good start.

Firstborn = the first 12 sylvari who were born. They are the leaders of the sylvari. Trahearne was the first of the firstborne, making him a sort of first amongst equals. He’s essentially the sylvari equivalent of Queen Jennah, since the Pale Tree isn’t very mobile.

He’s managed to hang out in Orr because he’s a powerful necromancer.

He asks your advice because this is a video game.

Yes, the voice acting sucks. No, he shouldn’t have been bigger and more imposing. For one, he’s a sylvari, and for two, he’s a necromancer. Necromancers are supposed to be thin and sickly, with brooding eyebrows and a black cloak.

A better voice actor would probably have done leagues in making people like him more.

Who says necromancers need to be thin? What about those norn and char necros I see running around? Surely you have some of those in your guild!

Out of all the things you could point out, you pick the one that is least relevant to character and story.

First, “first born” is explained on Claw Island if you listen to what your mentor and Trahearne were saying. Wyld Hunt is also explained in the vision of future that the Pale Tree created later on.

Second, imagine if you play GW2 and spend over 20 years, 20 YEARS, in only the 3 Orr maps. You would be fairly familiar with Risens’ every movement. Moreover, Caithe has the wyld hunt of killing the Elder Dragons, so she might have accompanied Trahearne for a lot of time there before Edge of Steel was formed.

Third, if you were to study (technically) one kind of monster for over 20 years and not doing anything else which doesn’t have a relation to that, would you be familiar with commanding troops and making decisions? Most of the time Trahearne only follows advises from his tacticians if you pay attention to story lines at all. Only in times when there are multiple valid options would he ask for your advise.

You can buy order armors at their HQ once you’re accepted into the order(crusader, agent, explorer). Vendors could be found just along with other vendors in Priory, far west of Vigil Keep, and in front of a tent deep inside Chantry of Secrets.

Equipment tiers decide their stat level, which starts at standard (white), fine (blue), masterwork (green), rare (gold), exotic (orange), and ascended (pink). It’s efficient to wear fine and masterwork while leveling, but most people prefer having exotic after they reach 80.

You can usually find standard and crafted armors up on the trading post. Cultural armors are only available to the specific race, and order armors are only available to the order you chose with your character. Karma armors are often sold by vendors across the world, you’ll need wiki to help you with that. Dungeon armors need dungeon tokens in exchange which can be traded in LA.

Best Bowman Class? (No Rangers)

in Players Helping Players

Recycle.5493

@Dalla, sorry to say this bro but your just a kittening moron…. I ask because there’s hundreds and thousands of people on the forums who have tried every build on every class… Why would I make a class just to try out something if I can spend 5 minutes getting the information from an experienced player who’s done it? Don’t try to troll my post if your gonna be a kitten on it, kthx<3

How do you know if the class fits you if you didn’t try it? Because I tried all three and I found ranger to be the best profession at “dealing damage with bows”. I’m not saying that ranger is the best profession out there, but other calsses’ bow abilities are just weaker than ranger in general. Oh hey, I forgot to tell you how much I hate bows on warrior and thief.
^.^ <3 and whatever things you like

Any ideas or opinions to this?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Recycle.5493

Recycle.5493

First, thief and mesmer are some of the squishier professions and would require a basic understanding of the game for a player to play them effectively. For a new comer, most people here would suggest playing a warrior instead. It’s the tankiest profession possible stats-wise. With the healing signet skill that one can get for 3 skill points which grants passive health regen, it’ll help most players understand some of the basic skills like dodging and watching out for mobs’ attack animation.

Second, out-buying does not exist in GW2 in terms of character stats. At end game, every player has the ability to get “exotic” equipments, which are second best tier you can get in game, with little to none “grinding”. The highest tier weapons that are “ascended” have a crafting material that is randomly dropped and cannot be increased in drop rate even if you pay. Even the “legendary” weapons have the same stat of exotics (for now), the only difference between end game equipments is the appearance which players can choose to transmute.

Third, during your first leveling gameplay, there is no need to “grind” for exp. Simply watch for the appropriate level for hearts and do the ones you feel comfortable with. Combine with personal story missions, you will level at a fairly fast rate. Exploring maps and doing dailies are also a good ways to level up as they often give a decent amount of exp. If you feel that your level is too low for hearts in a certain area, you can just go to another starter map for lower level hearts and get level appropriate exp and reward. There is no need to stay at the same area if you have already completed the tasks there. The only grind that is “required” is when you want to gather materials to craft weapons with fancy skins that has the same stat as any other exotic, which is purely cosmetic.

Anyways, welcome to the game and good luck with your journey throughout Tyria.

Best Bowman Class? (No Rangers)

Warrior longbow:
- Shorter range than ranger at 900, traited at 1200
- Mixed damage between direct and condition, harder to spec
- For bow related traits you have to go into vitality-heavy line(tactics) for 20 points
- Built in combo field and finisher
- AOE heavy

Generally you’ll have a smoother time at taking down group of trash mobs than killing a champ or a boss, not the best weapon to bring for dungeon gameplay. Works fairly well in general PvE. Often refer as inferior to rifle in terms of single target damage.

Thief shortbow:
- Again, shorter ranger than ranger at 900
- Great kiting/positioning weapon
- AOE oriented with trick shot, cluster bomb, choking gas
- Not as hard hitting as other weapons
- More supportive/defensive
- Quickest access to blast finisher in the game

Again, good at clearing trash mobs, don’t have as much single target damage as other weapons. Could be useful in dungeon, because it allows the thief to maintain a distance from danger and an easy escape ability. In other terms, thieves aren’t the best dungeoneers.

Exotics?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Recycle.5493

Yes exotics do drop from random mobs and yes you’re just unlucky. I played since BWE2, until now I have only gotten 1 exotic out of a random mob(non-champ nor vet) and 2 out of chests(not from dragon champs). They do drop, but the chances are slimmer than a starved jackalope.

Also Dagger damage is extremely exagerated on these forums by people who have more time logged in to the forums and wiki, than they do in the game. So keep a grain of salt handy when looking for advice here.

There was a thread which calculated all necro weapons’ auto-attack damage over time, and dagger out-damaged all others with necrotic bite. It was a good read, with a lot of evidences and reasoning.

There was also another thread with PvP “hitting like a truck” video that shows dagger with wells is a really effective burst build.

Recycle.5493

Eh… I think the range is fine for now, but that limits it to just “fine.” Meanwhile, the utility itself is great with a auramancer build, which is probably what they have intended. With great reward there should be a great risk (like easy targets of clustered allies), so if the range were to be buffed, the actual ability would be nerfed somehow to keep it balanced. I myself would love to see it at a wider range, somewhere between 450 and 550.

The few things I could think for this kind of build to be effective are bosses like Kasha Blackblood who stands there and does around… well nothing. Other than a few of those bosses, there aren’t any mobs that are safe for anyone to do “only dps.” Throw in a few trash mobs and this build will lay flat on the floor in no time.

- Vapor Blade

I would imagine having 4 people with fury will have higher dps than 1 person staying in one attunement.

Those are bad DPS skills.

Oh, did you say “You do realise you can’t do MASSIVE damage while you’re supporting, do you?”

I thought I see “You do realise you can’t do damage while you’re supporting, do you?”

Do you really think “The DPS” in holy trinity would work in GW2 and you don’t have to do any supporting? All you’re doing is slowing your group down.

BUT, if you’re a solo’er, sure, do whatever you want, if killing newbs in WvW is the thing for you, or you feel accomplished at killing mobs in 2 seconds.
