So…. no one gets outplayed?
see my above post
Funny thing is, today I was using blinding powder, and was wondering why it wasnt a blast finisher since it comes out rather forcefully
i think torment should be removed by “hide in shadows” because this healskill removes all dots. but it doesnt, i think they forgot it.
It doesn’t remove all dots, it removes bleeding, poison, and burning. there is a difference here.
THIEVES, ITS THIEVES NOT THIEFS OR THEIFS OR THEEFS
It can be frustrating when you fairly have an engagement and down a person, only to have another (or zerg) steal a victory from the jaws of defeat. The assist gets points, the solo player who fairly downed stated gets nothing. If you have this happen to you frequently, it can get to you. Hence why after a while if you see your getting an advantage, but others are moving your way (harder to see now with mini map changes) it is better to just move on.
Obviously it is, we have all been there. But you can’t win every fight, that doesn’t seem to get through people’s heads.
all humans may as a well be brits. “ay guvna care to parlay in the queens jubilee”?
“roitey toitey lemme ask me mum wut bong i otta be home”…Is that racist?
That would imply British people count as their own race -_-
Why doesn’t the big huge heavy dragon just start rolling around on the ground, thereby crushing anything and everything around it that hasn’t emulated brave, brave Sir Robin and bravely run away?
When you are a big huge heavy dragon, falling on the ground is gonna hurt.
Nevermind that he probably isn’t aware of the damage he’s getting until it’s too late. Dinosaurs needed what, 30 seconds, just to realize their tail has been already bitten off?
This, you know the saying “The bigger you are the harder you fall?” Yeah it exists for a reason. Like for example why if I jump off the Sears Tower, I’m most likely going to die…an ant on the other hand will live since it’s mass won’t cause it to go splat. Same thing for Tequatl, I can roll around on the ground all i want to, but if he does he’ll injure himself…..in fact, yeah Im now going to make fun of him my constantly evading everywhere in front of him so if you’ll excuse me…..
Because the Sylvari are the better option, case closed
Another con: Lets say he is beaten, you only get one reward per boss a day, that would mean those people won’t do him again, making the lack of people a hindrance on the next run
Pro: A fight that will require utmost teamwork and coordination is something I welcome. Champs won’t drop loot either to discourage farming Teq, I personally can’t wait, though I hope these cons are debunked
Shadow refuge, knocked/pulled out, focused on by everyone and their mother
Liadri, all I’m going to say
Are you actively going into duel rooms and doing this or something?..
Of course not, i know when a duel room is a duel room -_- lol
The world is too set up around teamwork: dynamic events, shared exp, even just simply leveling up in the first story instance you see other people. They would literally need to make an ENTIRE new map system just for this
Typical scenario, one of my teammates is fighting someone while the rest are elsewhere, and he gets downed by said enemy. Before enemy can finalize the kill, I come out of nowhere and quickly down the assaulter and finish them off rezzing my teammate. After which a slew of insults comes my way from the would-have-been killer. It doesn’t even need to be me, it could be anyone number of people in that scenario. Let’s kick it up a bit, my teammate isn’t downed yet but clearly losing, then i come in and we both defeat the person. I am all for fighting my own battles myself but if help comes my way then i don’t look down on it. Don’t I have the right to protect my teammates?
I was in your boat once. Almost the exact same (look at my signature) Play around with diff weapons. Try sword pistol for pistol whip, and bring a ranged weapon like shortbow or pistols for the dangerous foes
Dont listen to the guy below me he doesnt have over 1k hours on his thief :p

is this a joke?
WoD is garbage for securing stomps in anything but a 1v1 with classes that cant move or invis in downed state.
So is stability, invulnerability, blocking, distortion and others.
not true at all, they are the best option in game for this
Which is equally as good as blind.
Ever seen Thieves spamming blackpowder on every downed players?
no, blind is nowhere near equal to stability, invulnerability for stomping.
I have seen Thieves spamming blackpowder, what’s your point? it doesn’t take up a util slot and has no cooldown?
Oh I see now, you are agreeing with the OP that Necros are the worst stompers.
Alright carry on then
Wut? Yes it is. Unless we are talking about a mesmer or guardian coming from behind you and knocking you away, blind is as good as invuln. Why? Its makes wave of wrath, thunder clap, hammer throw, engi pull and fear miss. You dont even need stability just blinds.
Other than that, blinks and well placed shadowsteps can stomp everyone else assuming the timing is right. Of course, necros don’t have a port. That is where they fall, so necros cannot stomp 3 of the 8 classes. But their down state is what needs some work.

Have ANY of you faced that new stunlock warrior build? Mace Shield and Hammer/GS? Ironically I have one stun break in PvP most of the time (SS, I really wish steal was a stunbreaker sometimes) so the only way I can kill them is to abuse my pistol blinds, or you will be CC’d into next year, it’s not even funny.
That’s hardly a new build lol. I complained about them a month ago.
So I would guess that everyone has faced them by now. Especially considering that it’s their current meta build.
Yeah then I somehow avoided them them all this time they are so annoying

I laughed way too hard at th potential hate that may start to be going on in the chat
The thing is, when you say you’d take survivability over damage, that tells me you only see a backstab build as a glasscannon, which not all are. There is the popular balanced sister builds 10/30/30etc|0/30/30/10 etc that are popular. They offer dmg, AND survivability, just not as much extra dodges.

Gonna leave this here, this is for everything actually. Note pvp I use DD DP, as for WvW I go with zerk trinkets, other than that everything is pretty much across all game modes, cept sigil of ifre on dagger, I use air in pvp. It looks like a build you were going for, but I dont know your weapon preference or playstyle as this build is very stealth heavy. SoS is often switched with blinding powder
Oh, and the armor is valkyrie, all valk
It seems we have reached an impass
In real life, if you are running a condition build, then you want to use D/D but only for the dual skill.
I wish I could death blossom in real life:/
From what I noticed, Thieves are getting better at tracking the real Mesmer and that leaves a very bad taste fro the profession. One of the main reason why is because the clone doesn’t carry an off-hand weapon, so this was added stealthily in this patch —-
Guild Wars 2 Wiki Notes
Build: 23,057
Targets can now be called without being in a party.
Clones now show the mesmer’s equipped off-hand.
The monthly achievement has been reset. This might bring them back in the meta…not sure.
I don’t rely on any kind of visual cue or other gimmicks to identify the mesmer. I look at the mesmer that is trying to get away from me, I know that’s the real one LOL
Or if they stay still I am usually very quick to CnD off of a clone (or sometimes the real one XD) and scan around and find the real one in the 4 seconds I’m given
Aww this sucks, thats really all i have to say since I was one daily away from completion
Saying sylvari that wear crafted armor un-lorefriendly is kind of a wrong term as it stands since there are plenty of sylvari that you see that don’t grow there own clothes. That’s almost like calling people that wear wigs, extensions, or cut their short not true humans since we can grow our own hair. I’m sorry if this is coming off as mean it really isn’t, I just like my sylvari the way she is note: the flower is now red, it fit her better than the yellow one
>If we see any thread with the words “stealth” or “thiefs”, or the ever so lovely acronym “OP” in the title, we will automatically go into it with an unopened and ready-to-criticize mind
1k+ Hrs btw so no one better call me out >: D

I lost track of how many tickets I have used against her.
In the end, perhaps she just gave in to my persistence. Patterns are clearer, bomb clones are slower, vortex helped me out and red circles seem brighter.
All these just to keep me from looking under her skirt each time I go down. 8D
Well you can’t deny she is pretty <.<
I don’t know why everyone takes Helseth opinion so seriously, he’s suggesting that the evasion component of flanking strike to be completely removed…
Are you serious? Wow does he even play a thief?
D/D has death blossom
S/D has flanking strikes
S/P has pistol whip
P/P doesn’t have anything but then it’s P/P we’re talking about
D/P has shadow shot not an evasion but it blinds. so it’s an evasion in a wayAlmost every single one of our dual sets have an evasion in the dual slot except for P/P.
Nevermind that evasion is required to survive as a thief. We’re not war with 20k base HP and heavy armor.
Not dual but you forgot shortbow #3, evade
I found myself laughing at this part though.
Basically s/d right now does too much of everything. It has high burst, very high sustainable damage And is very difficult to kill.
Haha so S/D has a “high burst” now….
This. It has good sustainable damage, and with the evades makes it hard to hit, but burst leaves quite a lot to be desired.
Yes, if you go to the thief forums here and there there are a ton of thief with rifle threads. People seem to be pro-the idea. The only thin you have to worry about is that using a sniper-rifle would require stationary playing, and thieves have to be mobile, so the ranges we would need to be talking about need to be the greatest that can be done but at the same time make it balanced. However it would be interesting.
You made a good point. I personally would be fine with it so long as the stunbreak comes from a trait.
A trait in acrobatics or trickery might work? But having the stun break on a 21 second cooldown could be too strong. Its an interesting thought for sure.
With everyone spamming stuns and CC, I doubt it would be OP.
Yeah I mean have you fought a mace shield/ hammer warrior by the gods
I have never not fought a mace-shield/hammer warrior.
The amount of sheer stunning moves they have is just crazy, sooo much CC

Just opening a discussion here, would it be over powered if our class skill counted as a stun breaker? On one hand some would consider it OP since no class should have access to a free stunbreaker just by being that class, but on the other hand Anet wanted thieves to be the slippery class with a lot of mobility. And afterall, even when CC’d, we can still steal, but it won,t negate the CC effect. What do you guys think?
Jayster dont get discouraged. I’m a thief so if a fought a group of people that consisted of say a mesmer, a guardian, and a necromancer, I’m going after the mesmer first, why? You attack any structure akittens weakest point. Weak does not mean worst class or worst player but weak as in durability in this case. mesmers weren’t meant to be buffy or else why would you need clones? If that group had a thief added in, I would take him out first then since he’s even squishier and actually a really big threat since he can burst me down as fast as I can burst him down.
Mesmer is by far one of the strongest pvp classes, if you are playing mesmer you really shouldn’t be losing 1v1s in WvW or Spvp to any class (except maybe healing sig/banner/condi warriors). Generally for thieves I’ll go invisible right after they get into steal range or (if using d/p) wait until they drop their blackpowder and then pop my invisibility. Your phantasms should easily melt the thief once you avoid the initial burst, retaliation and confusion also melt thieves – use this to your advantage if you get pressured. The block on the scepter is another tool which can directly counter backstab builds and seriously hurt the thief. Mesmers also have access to the second most amount of stealth in the game on top of all the clones which they can produce which makes it very difficult for a thief to pin down a well played mesmer. I have a thief and a mesmer both played extensively in wvw and pvp and mesmer is by far the stronger class in every aspect except for mobility.
When people say “You shouldn’t be losing to any class 1v1” I just don’t get that. You cannot win every battle. You can win a lot, even most, but not every. Let’s not forget the devil’s advocate rule here, you can learn how to beat a class with a counter, but then that class will come up with a counter for yours, it’s a never ending cycle. that being said, yes, mesmers are the best dueling class but that doesn’t mean “there is no reason you should lose any 1v1”
Ok I see your problem from your comment about how we have 3 initiative left. We have a trait that virtually all of us thieves use called Infusion of Shadow. This nifty trait gives us two initiative whenever we go into stealth, so cloak and dagger really costs only 4 initiative if it lands, some thieves even use a trait when they get initiative faster while in stealth but regardless I may be able to help you out, though disclaimer, just as you need help with them, alot of players need help with mesmers, including thieves so like me, if any are experienced, it’s more a matter of dealing damage and mitigating damage rather than using clones to “confuse” (literally confuse not the condition) your target)
Decoy may help you, you’d want skills that stealth you and blink you away to alter your positioning. Remember that word, the major key for some classes for beating others is positioning. You aren’t using stealth to outlast the thief so get that out of your head. This isn’t even bragging, you simply can’t outmatch the stealth burst a thief has, you’ll be using it to get yourself out of his sights and re-positioning. If he goes into stealth, try blinking a ways away to confuse him a kitten
aos storm in the refuge is ok, but not the best solution. This is because all it will do a peck him with some damage and give him conditions, which he can easily shed while in stealth, and illusory wave or into the void however will give him a bad time. Pistol off hand kitten es them off too due to the blinds and dazes, blinds and dazes ruin thieves, CC in general. Moa Morph won’t help you much, idk why people think it’s such a godsend. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it is useless, but when you moa someone they will run and evade and wait it off, however I’ve seen mass invis used in a way so that the mesmer and clones and such get cloaked and then open up from stealth on an unexpected thief, that was pretty cool<—that however is not an instant kill but works really well to get damage in.
Double edged sword here really, if it is an inexperienced thief, expect them to attack your clones while you laugh, an experienced thief though will actually use you own clones and phantoms against you by stealthing off of them, and they will keep doing it until they see an opening. It’s funny because for us, fighting mesmers requires patience since you guys are so fatal in 1v1 combat. So if you see him stealth but he doesn’t attack you right away, don’t worry he will, he is just waiting for the right time and position, he’s not dumb and CnD’ing the clone, he knows exactly where you are. Then what do you do? Stealth and re-position to throw him off, he is going to be in your “clone field” working his way toward you so blinks and stealths help tons.
To avoid backstab damage, stand in your clone, that helps, not a lot of us know how to counter that actually (took me weeks to figure out how :p) so you’ll reveal him. And if you focus on confusion, that helps a lot for the spammy guys for obvious reasons
Idk if ferocity is one of the many yet rather pointless atm personalities http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Personality
It doesn’t remove what is less dangerous, it removes based on a first one in first one out basis. Also it removes only the conditions the skill specifies, unless it is all, then it is first in first out or all at once (consume conditions). You just get unlucky sometimes is all.
Ugh I hate the word “thiefs” so much. Does know one know the plural form of thief? I mean come on people
It’s like Yishi’s DP build, only thing I have to say is, for runes try scholar, see if those help you there. This build Is good, but lacks the damage a typical balanced build, let alone GC, would have thanks to no 30 in CS for Hidden Killer or such, that’s where the scholar runes come in. But wurm is a good alternative as it gives you health whereas scholar gives you power. Utilities are good, Signet of agility is interesting though, I can see why for the prec and endurance refill, but on that same token, you want this to be stealth heavy so black powder would help for a free stealth on demand, but whatever works for you.
&$&%@&$@ I hate that word soooooo much. Like when people say it in chat, does no one know the plural form of thief?!
I heard one I’ve never heard before from my sylvari when she went into the downed state, it was “No! Impossible!” so cute
Nope, as a thief, I’d have to say those kitten Mace Shield+ Hammer or Greatsword warriors. So much toughness, so much regen, SO MUCH STUNNING
I’m about to turn this food chain upside down.
Can always count on Konig to get your answers here!
I have been wondering about how humans handle the teachings of the Six. I notice NPC priests/priestesses, including the undead ones, but how exactly do humans handle the teachings of the gods they believe in? If I understand correctly (please correct me if I’m wrong) people only really follow one god of the Six, i.e necromancers pay heavy praise to Grenth and so on. But I haven’t noticed any churches, though I may be blind, I’m not really sure, and I may be wrongly ignoring the Cathedral of Silence. Is it that difficult to bring the ideologies of all Six gods under one roof? Or are there churches that in fact do that? Or perhaps do the priests take residence in special halls in which they enlighten those who seek them out in order to teach them more about the specific god they follow? Sorry if this is an ignorant question.
An alternative to oZii’s post is 0/30/20/0/20, runes of the necromancer. I don’t need to say what traits since they are self-explanatory, except go with Reaper’s protection instead of greater marks for that extra fear. And if you want, a fear when downed for another fear.
Someone verify (i’m on a role in these forums tonight
) mesmers have a BS counter where they stand in their clones. Can we just prevent this by CnD’ing the clone away?
It has always been a good counter to just pull out SB and AoE them down or chain CnD on them until they’re all gone. The second option keeps you healing in stealth the entire time, but the first allows you to continue the fight much more quickly and avoid a shatter.
I like the latter option in case the mesmers decides to retaliate while I have my SB out, although the caveat with the latter is that, as you said, it takes time, allowing the mesmer’s skills, more specifically the heal skill, to recharge.
