Fair warning,
Goku is a god in Tyria do NOT use this as a basis of standard as it was a “record” run.
That being said. Every Dungeon can be done solo save for very few exception based on some mechanics such as Citadel of flame Path one Flame Braziers. And Crucible of Eternity Lazer Trap.
Yes including Arah Story If you get yourself a friend to stand on the first pressure plate with you.
Edit: updated the video I posted the wrong one.

you know, thinking on it…. the whole thing bears repeating for this thread. SLightly out of date due to FgS being nerfed since this writing. But the point still stands.
I’m still somewhat vexed by a few of the more bizarre notions circulating in this thread. Hopefully, I will be able to help some of the more misguided notions.
Character Building
Your “playstyle” is defined foremost by your weapon choices, skill choices and traits. If you choose utility skills of a support nature, along with melee weapons and use traits that give defensive benefits to your team, you are a support melee character. If you choose offensive boosting skills, ranged weapons and DPS boosting traits, you are a ranged DPS character. These things are true regardless of your gear prefix. Again, who you are is defined by your weapon choice, skill choice and trait choices.
The second component of character build, gearing, has nothing to do with playstyle. Gearing is a measure of the damage you expect to be unable to avoid in your chosen game mode. Additionally, gearing is primarily how you determine whether you will be direct damage or condition damage. But the primary function of gearing is an estimate the amount of damage you anticipate you will need to soak in your chosen content. If you feel you will be able to dodge every attack you would select a gearing that sacrifices passive defense for more offense. Alternatively, if you feel you will receive large amounts of unavoidable damage you would be well advised to bring gear with more passive defense. The only aspect of gearing that determines playstyle is direct vs condition damage.
What is a character in defensive (soldiers) gear with dps skills and dps traits? A dps character. What is a character in offensive gear (berserkers) with defensive support traits and defensive support skills? A defensive support character.
With that out of the way as an established fact, let’s debunk some of the weaker arguments in this thread…
“Build Diversity”: Since playstyle is determined by everything EXCEPT gear, the concept of changing a gear type to encourage different playstyles is literally an absurdism. If you want to actually make defensive support builds more viable, you have to change the things that actually affect the playstyle: traits and skills. Or change the content to make healing/boon duration more useful, but that runs the risk of creating a trinity system where teams require a specific profession using a specific build to complete content, which has a problem all its own.
“Stacking”: Nothing to do with gearing. Even if Apothecary gear became meta, stacking would still be done in places where stacking is done. This is not a gearing issue.
“Zerker trivializes content”: Depends. There are a few bosses who are killed very quickly with fiery greatswords and berserker gear in such a way that their mechanics are skipped. There are also other bosses that aren’t, or aren’t outside of a very organized group. This is partially a content issue, partially a downscaling issue, and partially a fiery greatsword issue. Very little of it has to do with berserker gear itself. In fact, I would argue that Fiery Greatsword is the biggest culprit. The damage it is capable of is so far beyond the scope of everything else that it allows even the least skilled players the ability to speed run certain dungeons. If fiery greatsword was nerfed, it is entirely likely that many people who are being carried by it would go back to complaining about dungeons being too difficult.
“The content is too easy”: No, the content is too old. I assure you, the first time you did Arah path 1 in September of 2012 was not as fast as it is done now, even if you are an elite dungeon runner now. Arah is very, very hard. Drop a new player into Arah with no experienced teammates and no video guides and suboptimal builds. He will fail very hard. In fact, drop the same player into any of the dungeons and they will likely struggle mightily. The content isn’’t too easy, it’s just too old. Even the more challenging raids in other games go on farm after two years of existence. The type of raid that took progression guilds two weeks to beat the first time around are facerolled by pugs after two years once the builds and strats are known. This is how MMO goes. If you want to decrease the berserker population, add brand new dungeons that don’t have established guides and community tactics yet and watch the casual berserker users put on defensive gear, or avoid the content altogether.
Proximity landmine, if two or more players start to stack they get blown to pieces and die instantly. That solves the problem.
Go run fractal Level 39,
and then you tell me how that would be a good idea?
In truth it would solve nothing. Most of us would figure out how to deal with it. and the rest of the game would cry until they nerf it.
a quote from a Wise man:
If you want to decrease the berserker population, add brand new dungeons that don’t have established guides and community tactics yet and watch the casual berserker users put on defensive gear, or avoid the content altogether.
When I First started Cooking Professionally I was working in a corporate Cafe. Made Breakfast and lunch for around 400 or so people. Starting at around 5 Am. I learned how to cook Eggs. I cooked all sorts of styles of Eggs and I used a 3 foot by 6 foot Flat Iron skillet. Because It was what we had.
Handfull of years Later I find myself in a Local Diner. The 24 hour breakfast type place. Had a big flat iron as well as a bunch of other things. First Day on the job I get asked if I know how to “flip” eggs using a non stick pan.
“Guess I am learning today”
2 dozen eggs later I could get a decent Flip. And By the time I was Done working there I could double Flip a 4 yolk.
Did that make My flat iron any worse for cooking Eggs? not really. I just Ended up using it for other things. and left my eggs to their pans and the spiders. Allowing me to be more efficient and have more things going on. But it came at the cost of really stepping up my game and paying even more attention to so many other things at the same time.
The risk came from if I missed one thing inevitably it all came crashing down. the reward? I could pump out more tickets and make my dining populous happy by getting their food at a reasonable time and still tasting good. Could I have just used the Flat Iron? Certainly, it just would have taken me twice as long. but I would have had less chance to screw up.
I got good at it. It took a little bit of time but I got better. and I could do more with less than when I first started.
So….
Do you take my non stick? and maybe make my Flat Iron bigger?
Do you delete Berserker Gear and make something else “more Viable”
How about instead of Us constantly going back and forth and arguing.
Give us a new and different Egg?
because frankly I, and many others are sick of everyone complaining about, and trying to give flawed logic on how we should change the chicken.
if you wish the “zerker” meta, to go away.
you must create content SO hard that the “berserkers” cry. Not just rivers, but oceans.
~Wethsopu
now that being said. can you imagine what would happen to 99 percent of the player base if content was SO hard that Even the best could not beat it?
Only necros bring the absolute maximum personal dps build to the table. Guess what? They are excluded from the meta.
quoted for truth.
for the thief it was assassin signet and cleaver use of Shortbow, shadow step and steal.
Warrior was with warrior sprint, great sword and sword, warhorn rotations.
but yes it was running the whole way. The orginal run Myself and my Brother did back when was to scout the path for the “Pillgrimage” that my guild would host every week. it has since evolved into the “crusade”. The orginal Run took us 1 hour 47 min. i have since redone the run to see if i could make a better time. and i did.
Soren Draa, to
Twilight Arbor, to
Caudecus Manor to,
Honor of the Waves to,
Citadel of flame to,
Ascalonian Catacombs to,
Sorrows Embrace to,
Crucible of Eternity to,
Arah….
1 hour, 22 min.
(thief actually, Warrior was 1 hour 27 min )
If the Signet did NOT have an internal cool down it would be a fantastic DpS gain for organized groups. Optimal?? probably not, but at least it would be a step in the right direction for a PvE necromancer.
However Not having a internal cool down would cause some pretty nasty balance issues in PvP if I remember correctly.
so. That being said. Signet of Vampirism, As Spoj has stated is only usefull for Condition Necromancer Solo’s for the might on signet activation. Which begets the question of if it would be usefull for power solo’s as well?
In,

PvEcontent, A necromancer is Useless. Once you have accepted this reality, You can go back to Soloing everything for a challenge.
And then cry when you realise you could be much more creative with an ele or any other class for that matter.
i know right…

I am against pulling bosses to walls and stack there. The dps increase is significant.
Also boss’s specific phases and abilities can be negated.Such example is lupicus. When he is pulled to a wall he is not using some of his abilities(charge and green bubble). When you fight him not near a wall he is using all his abilities.
that is incorrect.
the Shadow Step and Bubble have nothing to do with him being on the wall or not.
no damage though but still a good jump.
fast answers,
1: no, you can get 100 percent and never set foot inside a dungeon.
2: only PvP areas that are required are the “borderlands” and Eternal Battlegrounds. EoTM and HoTM, are not required for completion
3: To many variables to really answer that. But i would suggest that if you are doing map completion for money I would advise against it. Do map completion because its fun and you get the gold star. It does not pay well for time invested.
As much as i hate to say it,
I really hope not. It would make some specs extremely over powered.
Unless they are looking to release Nomads and Sinister at the same time to the PvP realm????
Outstanding Miku,
really cool to see and watch.
If bosses can only by harmed by condis, we’ll bring the best condition damage dealer, and it probably won’t be necromancer.
pretty much.
for condi,
as of yesterday, “Sinister”
I haven’t been on for a few days, there isn’t a sinister amulet in pvp is there?
not that I have seen.
I did not look very hard though so it may be there and I just did not notice it.
if you read the reddit thread you will also see the link to the spreadsheet.
Sinister gear should allow new records for warrior, engie and necro lupi solos if someone was inclined to pursue them.
I was just about to come mention that.
#fixrampager2014
Random though though. Would this stat set allow for the possibility of a Condi based party member in say Fractals, where the fights are longer? Such as a possible spot for a Necromancer to not feel quite as useless??
obviously not optimal, but at least useable?

for the sake of further ideas, would someone be so kind and explain to me GW1s raids in a few words. I’ve watched Woodenpotatoes Underworld-vids and it looked quite boring to me, to be honest. I’m not sure if I get what eveyone loved about these.
What I know about it:
- it’s instanced and a big map with possibilites to teleport (just like our GW2 maps)
- there are 10 quests you can finish (aren’t events superior to quests?)
- there are some hard enemies (quite similar to Cursed Shore)
What’s the difference? Those seem to me a bit like GW2s lv.80 maps, maybe a bit more difficult.
Just think of them as elite zones. With unique and good rewards. And no open world interference. Thats whats so appealing. It would be nice to have a very challenging explorable zone which is instanced with various quests/events and bosses. Which is the appeal.
Imagine if you will,
Cursed shore, All of the events all of the quest lines and all of the little things. ( all of which make GW2 really good)
Now make it so it is instanced. Only one wp, and there are only 15 of you.
Necro sucks in PvE very hard and I discourage anyone from playing it, especially the beginners. Also requires crazy unrelaxed gameplay and knowledge of encounters to even stay sub-optimal.
In PvP, the necro is good. Still has the old issues, like being either dominator or dominated, but one can get used to it. Some things counter necro so hard it’s not funny (cele ele, some rangers, medi guard trololo), necro counters some other things equally (engies). A newbie will still get smashed by another newbie playing any other class, because necro has a very high knowledge requirement to play with success.
I Think that is one of the best descriptions I have ever read.
Thanks Leman.
From a Personal perspective. In many situations I find myself feeling, and being ludicrously Powerful….
And utterly useless.
to the tune of…?
That is fantastic,
Very well done.
Ham,
I would suggest if you are willing to come out and say for some of us to add you to our contact list. As well as some of the specific Dungeons you are after. And when we do some runs that you are looking for… provided you are online we can contact you and let you know that there are some spots available.
price to be determined. (I never charge for mine I just offer because I can, but that is me )
ARE YOU DOUBTING THE HOLY MANGO PIE TRAY YOU FILTHY PEASANT. No seriously tho food is what separates crappy players from good players. And fine i wont mix my stats I will continue running full assassin on my ele and laugh as you get hit for 6k by meteor while glyph of storms (lighting) is still going and hitting you for 3k per zap then ill ice bow to keep up the heat to kill the rest of your party in my unmixed gear. Good luck killing my horribly squishy kitten tho sigil of restoration is going off like a broken alarm with all the people I am slaughtering. OH look ice bow is off CD already
once I wreck their face in with this maybe ill pull out a charzooka. ooooooh lava font. God you would be LUCKY if I was to mix my stats up a bit. Stop kittening and learn to bring death down on the enemies after all your perfectly welcome to build to be just as broken as they are so whats the problem? When its all over and everything is broken nothing will be

personally,
After the whole Frost spirit thing. I am under the impression that there is a disconnect between some of the groups.

outstanding!
quick one before I head off to work,
thanks for your response gang. I need to figure out that build editor thing.
Ran with the “flanker” last night a bit, ( the power with staff wells ) and started paying attention to how long any of the condies stuck around. which was not very long. but i got an extra tick of damage though.
Ran with the “Zerg Baller” for a bit right after and although I liked the Corrupt Boon concept, for larger scale fighting it just was a waste of space I think. As the groups got smaller and the fighting more focused it became more powerful as I could focus that one warrior or Guardian mess up their stuff. But we already knew that Conditions get more powerful the smaller the group is.
I think that adding some Dire to the Zerg baller would most likely be a waste, as you are right it just would not really tick for anything. I wonder about perhaps adding some Rampager and or Rabid to the Flanker though. ((shrug))
fast build lay out:
Flanker:
0,5,5,4,0
focused rituals, staff mastery, greater marks, ritual mastery
Sharpening stones, truffle steak,
Knights, and Berserker
Zerg baller,
0,0,4,4,6
Reaper Protection, Path of midnight, Foot in the grave (and some other stuff i cannot remember right away)
Sharpening stones, Poultry lemon grass,
PvT with Melandru
thanks again for your input gang, its mostly just for fun and goofing around to see what else we can come up with. As I have so may different classes and layouts for things to be done it all really comes down to Who I am running with and what it is that they need. Be it in WvW or PvE. Since I have been running WvW more as of late. And slaughtering Black Gate and Jade quarry Scum like Jerus…. ((( had to!!! you know i love you )) I have been more focused on being effective in there.
Have fun Guys, that is what this is all about any way!
So, Theory crafting oddness.
Rolled another Necromancer For WvW. Made it “zerg Baller”. meaning instead of flanking and playing outliers. I generally tend to Run Directly behind a driver.
I have been really Enjoying this and having some good success. Ultimately depending on the group comp and the like. My Bar is full of Wells, being Corruption, Suffering and Power.
Near as I can tell being able to get into the thick of it all and drop the wells right as we are pushing around and through has been usefull. I Had a random thought to day and Wondered if I should supplement some of the PvT for Dire. for perhaps some more pressure off the corruptions I do manage to get in. I also though perhaps instead of taking Well of suffering taking Corrupt Boon,
So as a Necromancer community, what are your thoughts? is it worth taking some Dire for a bit more pressure or should I Stick with the PvT and power? Will the Boons I Corrupt even really tick worth anything? Is Corrupt Boon as a single target really worth taking over the AoE of Well of Suffering?
And since this Build an set up has literally no crit, Suggestions on some sigils for the weapons I have? I am just not seeing a whole lot of options. short of perhaps Bloodlust.
random theory crafting…..
Is all good guys i have a really, really loud head set,
most of the time though i will say that when you are talking showing trait points, and or skill highlights. is what helps at least ME.
I may not be able to hear you or understand what it is you are saying but if you show me i can more or less figure it out.
:)

my ranger never even “caught” one.
i am a bad bad ranger…..
:)
Random thoughts are random…
So I was sitting there Julliening my 25 pounds of carrots…
I am the amicable Pug,
I just finished leveling and gearing my 13th character…
Somethings i have learned about The game and me along the way.
People who complain about " lack of Build variety" are far to narrow minded.
I created so many People to satisfy the need of whatever group I could come across. For at least myself when I ask you what you need me to bring, And you say “whatever” I will be looking at the rest of the party and trying to figure out what will benefit the group the most. If you give me something specific. I will have it. I may not be the best Dagger/ Focus Ele or what have you, but if thats what you need, I have it.
Although I could certainly gear and level a “solo” character, I have no real desire to. I truly Enjoy the Team Aspect that this Game provides. Having gotten some chances to have been picked up By Death N Taxes for some casual tours I have been privileged enough to run with some of the games best players. Something that makes them stand above and beyond so many others is the sense of “team” that they hold. Much like a Kitchen Brigade, They are a band of Pirates that are capable of amazing things. (( and some day i hope to be good enough to be counted among them.))
Black Gate Is number one in WvW not because of numbers or coverage. But because they are a server of teams. They function together and work together. and they Win together.
((shrug))
Random thoughts are random…….
that…
was awesome!
Random question is random,
Would the allowance of “Foot in the grave” as 8 seconds of stability similar to Stand your ground or Berserker Stance…
Too much?
10 Second internal maybe?
just thinking out loud…
There are days i wish i could hear some of the communications that would go on.
I was there one night when a guild group From Black gate took Tarnished coast Garrison in Eternal.
A TC map blob could not oust the turtle shell. I can only imagine the commander screaming into the mike
it was Epic, by every sense of the word.
Again, a Fantastic Job to
Black gate,
Jade Quarry,
Sea of Sorrows,
Maguuma,
Fort Aspenwood,
it has been a blast!
I want to come out and say
Thank you ALL for the absolutely outstanding time this month!
Be it from my face in the dirt. Or that giggly grin you get as you see the yellow numbers flashing across your screen because something went right.
It has been and Absolute Blast Fighting you All these last weeks.

nicely done!
fast answer:

Beserker Gear, (knights if you are not comfotable in Glass)
Dagger and Focus.
Well of suffering, Signet of spite (for passive) and Signet of locusts. Flesh Gollom Elite, (he will keep you company in your long and arderous journey)
Superior Sharpening stones and either Candied Dragon Rolls. or Omnom berry bars.
Copper fed savalge o matic. and lots of bag space.
Except it is not pay to win.
I have a bank tab full of Boosters. and I got them all from just doing dailies, monthlies, map completion, Etc.
I have not spent any real money on them.
