I’m glad it isn’t here, and I’d despise them for adding it. It adds nothing useful, and people can already pvp quite extensively.

Why would you despise them for adding something someone else wants. That would be like me despising them for adding a dungeon because I personally don’t like them.

Because it ruins the game. Seems a good enough reason.

Unlike what the proponents like to cite as their main selling point, this crap wouldn’t be compartmentalized away from players that don’t want it. Even if you somehow get a switch to turn it off, you still get bullying dipkittens demanding you turn it on so they can ‘prove their superiority’. You’ll get dailies to entice you to go try it, artificially inflating ‘player support’. You’ll get achievements to do the same, adding more PvP that the PvE-only set will ineffectually decry.

No, it won’t be something you’ll get to simply ignore and keep soldiering on with what you want to do, because the very nature of dueling is to get in someone’s face. It goes against the game’s design philosophy. The game doesn’t need it. If you’re that desperate to kittensize with someone else, get yourself a private arena and take it there.

Wouldn’t it be funny if in the final fight with Mordremoth we would first whittle all his health down alone, and then all of a sudden Trahearne hops out of nowhere and finishes Mordy off with Caladbolg. He would then be heralded as the true hero of the realm and the player character forgotten all about.

Reminds me of the ending to Dragonslayer.

The Ambrite and Carapace sets say hi.

Granted, they are locked behind a fair bit of grind, but you can’t buy them with gold, so it’s not locked behind the gemstore.

The OP asked for armor rewarded for dungeon completion. From which dungeons do I get the ones you mentioned?

:p

OP used that as a bait-and-switch into the old tired kittening about no new armor or weapons except through the Gem Store (which is nothing more than a load of self-serving bullkitten). Keeping that in mind, Zax’s response is sufficient and correct.

- Win as class doesn’t require you to do combat, you just got to win the game (might take a few games but eventually you’ll win one)

I wouldn’t want to subject someone to the abuse that would come sitting pacifistically through several matches in PvP. Plus OP would probably be reported for trolling.

I’ve got no advise for the WvW dailies, maybe someone else got easy tips for you there?

Some of these are pretty easy late in the evening, assuming your enemies don’t have Australians providing coverage at night. Capturing camps can be done solo, but takes a lot of fighting, is risky, and is generally not worth your time; doubly so, because you have to do it twice. Master of Ruins (capture 1 Ruin) is probably the easiest – just navigate to a Ruin unseen and sit there for about a minute. Land Claimer (kill one flag guard and capture his point) can be pretty painless; the guard is about Veteran level and can be soloed easily, and you can usually find one at a short run from the safety of your Borderland Keep. Capturing Keeps and Towers are only quick if you can join a group.

There is quite a bit of non-violent things you can do in-game already. Most of the hearts have a task option that doesn’t require combat. There are quite a few events too.

I once had a challenge idea to try to get to level 80 without using a weapon, but all the experience items we’ve received lately make that kind of pointless.

Serious suggestions?
We want stuff to force ourselves playing the game because of our look – not because every-day content thats not really exists.

Here is a “Serious” one:
Gem Purchase track: The more real money you spend, the more nice rewards you get. Example of total money spent rewards:

  1. $10 – 1BL Key
  2. $25 – 3Bl Key
  3. $50 – 5BL key + Mini pack of choice + “Black Lion Partner” title.
  4. $100 – Ascended weapon box OR a free weapon skin unlock of any BL kit.
  5. $150 – Ascended armor box OR a free armor skinpack. + “Black Lion Merchant” title.
  6. $200 – AN Supporter Superpack (lots of choseable goods)
  7. $350 – “Black Lion Trader” title.
  8. $500 – “Black Lion Broker” title
  9. $1000 – AN Supporter Gigapack (Also unlocks stuff you wouldn’t bother to get anyway, like Glorious armor skins) + “Black Lion Millionaire” title

Something like this. With these kind of heavy rewards, people will less likely to buy legendaries from third-party sites I guess.

Who is going to spend $1000 on a game, lol.

Don’t go there.

Maze Balm foes being killed by others

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sariel V.7024

The real question you should be asking is…
Why do the maize balm farmers feel like they are entitled to owning the monsters?

I used to use the Rata Sum ambient spawns to work on my Weapon Master achievements. Never for one moment did I think that those monsters solely belonged to me… Why? Because they were never mine to begin with.

Clearly the issue is that weapon mastery farming is too boring/unrewarding. If WMFers were sitting in Rata Sum 24/7 making those ambients unavailable, the Maize farmers would have to find some place else to take over.

At the very least, it would make for a more ironic fight here on the forums. ;D

Well, the things I liked about these updates were the fights which were refreshing from the general mob fights, but , god, I hated fighting and killing those centaurs. That was brutal.
I can’t understand why Caithe did what she did to this degree… Either it’s poor storytelling or the medium of a few missions and a few dialogues are a poor medium

With regards to the birth of Nightmare Court and Faolin, it’s true the pressure to be perfect might have been quite a load for many Sylvari. However Faolin , in simply doing the exact opposite of what the tenets say rather than explore and experience life and then form an opinion truly indicates a spoilt teenage brat rebelling against the ‘house rules’. Her character is made out to be vapid and shallow

It would have been much better for her to be mellow and ambivalent to start with , and then as she sees brutality against her people, she feels that pacifism is not the way to go. The fact that Faolin’s character is so obviously racist and foul right from the start doesn’t help the story at all.

There are plenty of examples where games are shown to be powerful in terms of telling a story, even more so than movies and mere books, and they work with less than this. You can hunt them out. The contextual cues in this one are quite obvious and no one seems to miss them. The real problem comes when my in-game persona doesn’t clue in. When she covers for Caithe swiping the egg while talking to the Pale Tree (did I think Momma Bush was in on it? Was I just being courteous and not trying to upset her?). When I explain away my findings to Marjory and give Faolain a free pass, while I’ve had personal experience that she’s a murdering kitten, probably incited the whole mess, and Caithe blithely followed along.

Seeing Faolain as a petulant child at this stage didn’t bother me as much as it seems to have those above. She’s been around for two years, and that’s enough time for her to develop from Caithe’s gf into something more sinister. But we don’t get much sense of her relationship with Caithe here, nor of Caithe’s feelings towards her, nor why she’s putting up with Faolain’s obvious bullkitten without calling her out at least once. If Faolain’s hold on her is abusive, shouldn’t we see more of that in their alone time?

If one thinks “it’s mindless farming” to obtain something of high value in a game, that high value item is not really worth it for that person.

If one thinks “I want a Bitfrost” and makes it a goal, time spent for acquiring funds for Bitfrost will not be “mindless farming” to that person.

No one is wrong. It’s really all about breakpoints.

A person may be willing to pay 700g for a precursor while another will be fine if mystic forge rolled a precursor within 50 tries. First person will probably get frustrated to find that precursor that is needed is selling for 1400g while the other person will cry foul if mystic forge did not spit out the precursor in 100 tries.

Game companies manipulate these breakpoints to create hooks in the game that keep people logging on when intrinsic OCD takes over (for lack of better words), desire to complete or to achieve.

For a game like GW2, 2+ years old, there gotta be multiple ways to attain any particular thing. Grinding Gold and measuring success by converting gold earned/hour is not exactly my cup of tea.

I’d like to see there is a definitive method by which one can obtain precursors to legendaries other than roll of dice, TP manipulation, or gold farming. I do not believe you can call your game innovative if it relies on the same principle of gold/hr to design and deliver desirable content.

Ironically, you start off your point with the worth of content being subjective to the player, then end with it being exclusively to your definition.

I disagree that ascended should be a luxury item. I do not agree that best in slot gear is a “luxury.” Of course, I come from playing GW1 where stats weren’t a luxury thing. Cosmetics where.

Tell that to someone trying to buy a req9 max damage inscribable Death Magic Bone Dragon Staff.

See there, it’s the skin that’s the luxury there. Because you could easily get The exact same weapon sans the skin a dime a dozen. An inscribable max dmg staff req 9 death was super easy to get. Think there were a few collectors in NIghtfall that offered them I believe, and I think you might have been ale to craft them from one or two of the npcs. Of course, there were also lots of collectors that offered non-inscribable ones, so you could typically find one with the insric you wanted if you looking.

My point kinda gets lost in what I now see as its complete irrelevancy…. so, umm.. carry on?

unless the wiki is wrong, imps are very much demons :P

The wiki is the work of a lot of players’ observations of the game and is not maintained by the devs. It’s pretty easy for misinformation to make it into there on supposition alone and be parroted as truth for months down the road.

On the other hand, even though a comment from a red-tagged dev has significant weight, it is quite possible for one to make a mistake, remember something wrong, or write something that gets misinterpreted.

Sariel V.7024

While this is generally a goal, it can be difficult to achieve.

1. People are crafty. If they are determined to ruin your day, they will find away.

2. You cannot programmatically determine intent. ‘Trolling’ is not a term that applies to people that don’t fully understand the mechanics of the encounter. Thus it is difficult to punish only pranksters without bringing in a live observer to monitor the event, which cannot be done every time due to the cost.

3. As noted in another thread, once you start throwing insults around, you become part of the problem and ANet takes longer to do anything about it.

Another sterling example of bad RNG is having MF not affect Champ Boxes in PvE. I would almost rather go to Champs having an adjusted loot table that MF affected. No wonder you implemented the Champ Boxes. It wasn’t better for players. It was better for ArenaNet to gate magic find, thus lowering our RNG for champions. The fix should have just made Veteran and Champion drops better, because man were the drops non-existent from them for a year or so.

There’s the problem.

You went from nearly non-existent to GUARANTEED drops. GUARANTEED three items and some coinage. You can’t have all of those becoming exotics gamewide and expect them to have any worth. But you can expect players to pursue them to the exclusion of all else.

The sign outside the fields says that you can play whatever you want, and so Marty goes over to the kids playing baseball and says that they should all play soccer. The kids tell him that they don’t want to play soccer, they want to play baseball. There are some kids a few fields over playing soccer, but instead of going and playing with them, or finding some other kids to play soccer with, he keeps arguing with the kids who want to play baseball. “The sign says I can play what I want, and I want to play soccer!” He tells the other children, and so the other children ignore him and go back to their game of baseball. Marty tries to play soccer on the same field as the children playing baseball and runs into another child. The children kick him off of the field they’re playing on, and go back to their game. Instead of going and playing soccer with the children who are still playing soccer, he goes to the parents, and tells them how the other children are bullying him and excluding him. Usually ended up with me half-dead before I started fighting and full-dead before I could get clear.

Using Next Enemy has its own special issues, as it uses map-spawning order for all nearby enemies in view (or something similar) and it’s terrible when facing a lot of enemies that are spread out, like Lishtenbird says.

There’s some sort of leap of logic that I am missing here. Please elucidate.

It makes perfect sense. Discovering recipes gives the best crafting exp. But if you already discovered the lets say darksteel berserkers inscription on your weaponsmith, you wont be able to get discovery exp for it anymore, if you want to level your huntsman.
You also dont get discovery exp anymore, if you level weaponsmithing on an alt.

Well, the OP already clarified that he only meant recipes learned with recipe sheets, not via discovery.

Except you can’t discover inscriptions.

If you think about it a little harder, the impact here is limited. The only recipes duplicated across professions are Insignias, Inscriptions, and (maybe) Runes and Sigils. The former two are learned automatically or via recipe sheet, and are never discovered. The latter tend to be unique to a discipline.

The failing occurs in that you won’t ever be able to rediscover a combination if you make the same crafting discipline on an alt, which as I understand, is a popular way to level up.

I seem to recall posting this before.

Concise summary (lot of good info above):

At lvl 80, best stats is Benthic Aquabreather (rare, lvl 80, drops at Tequatl. Can be bought on AH).
Otherwise, the best available is bought with karma (Masterwork, lvl 80, from Explorer Gavbeorn Serpentslayer) in the standard skins.

Quaggan (Black Earth) skins are available cheapest from Creator Zee, for karma. These resemble normal helmets. Best available are Masterwork (lvl 75, for karma, from Qualdup)

Consortium Aquabreathers (skins only, no stats) are no longer available in-game. Look at the AH if desperate.
