Unfortunately, we don’t really have enough of these codes to crack them.

There are also two parts of the code missing, and not currently in the game.

A presentation at the one-year mark showed ANet does track this kind of thing. I remember the enemy type that had the most player kills was one of the Risen. They probably have the data; it would just be a matter of querying it.

That said, any discussion of this sort is going to drift towards “Damage Meter” and the necessity of such a thing ruining the game for a lot of players.

I hope the land spears/ polearms use same skins are sea spears when they release them.

because I just spent some of my limited gold on Spear skins which I never get to see currently because I never do underwater content in the game.

I hope they dont make them separate skins like they did for Tridents and Staffs in the game which share same models for many weapons.

Due to the way skins work in this game, what you are really asking for is for the same WEAPONS to be used above-water. ANet has no problem with copying skins onto different weapon types and making you rebuy them, as you yourself noted.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sariel V.7024

Sariel V.7024

Just out of curiosity ANet, what was wrong with GW1’s loot system? In GW1, you ran specific content for the skins you wanted. Yes, there was RNG, but at the same time, you made plenty of gold doing the runs ( Fissure of Woe, Underworld, Dungeons, etc ) that you’d be able to buy whatever it is you were after in a few days, or a week or two.

There is no effective difference between the system you describe and GW2’s as it currently stands.

In GW2? You spend all your time chasing some kitten with a blue tag getting all these sweet exotic bags. And affter you finally choose to open them all the best drop you get is a kitten Cobalt, and 10 stacks of freaking Mithral and that leather crap that no one wants that I don’t even know the kitten name of.

You are overglamorizing the grind of the original Guild Wars. In GW1, you had a 1 in 8 chance of getting any non-money drop that occurred, the rest being scarfed by your partners. 99% of these were vendor trash; the remaining 1% consisted of imperfect rares that would vendor for, at most, 400g. In GW1, just like in GW2, you were better off salvaging nearly everything you picked up and turning it into raw materials which you could then sell to the crafting merchant.

Run specific content for skins? Maybe if you’re counting Tormented weapons, or throwing yourself at a boss over and over again in the hopes of getting its green. Just try to get a max rare Storm Bow, or Chaos Axe, or Golden Phoenix Sword, or even a max Katana or Tetsubo. Even Elemental Swords were hyperrare until someone figured out a boss you could farm for them. And Guild Wars Guru auction prices for dungeon skins were just as bad as Legendaries are today.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Rare skins are just as farmable in this game as they were in its predecessor. It ranges the whole gamut of can’t-give-it-away common all the way up to consign-your-life-away impossible to find.

Sariel V.7024

If there hadn’t been rumors of an expansion there would have been the usual amount of negativity. They think they will be getting what they want. Of course they are feeling forgiving. That’s not hypocrisy.

By the way. Here’s the definition of hypocrisy.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hypocrisy
noun, plural hypocrisies.
1. a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess.
2. a pretense of having some desirable or publicly approved attitude.
3. an act or instance of hypocrisy.

Let’s go with Mirriam-Webster’s definition then, which is what the OP intends:

hy·poc·ri·sy noun \hi-?pä-kr?-s? also h?-\

: the behavior of people who do things that they tell other people not to do : behavior that does not agree with what someone claims to believe or feel

I ran a simulation on acquiring mordrem organs from bags. On average, it would take 16 bags from each boss for most players to get all the organs required for Luminesecent Armor, provided they had waited until now to open them.

The upper bound on the trials was 74 bags, but it is theoretically infinite.

I remember the countless posts (mostly angry posts – and rightfully so!) about players wanting that mini ghost puppy/wolf/whatever it is, and opening literally hundreds of thousands of Trick or Treat bags (I heard one case of 130,000 bags opened & zero ghostly dog/wolf mini’s), only to still wind up with none.

I have so much empathy for them and couldn’t comprehend their immense frustration with the RNG system. Not to mention all the money AND time they would have wasted.

Funny. When I hear about someone devoting that much resources and effort to something so inconsequential, I start to question their sanity….

Of course, it’s also players with these kinds of resources that have periodically jacked tp prices to ridiculous levels for personal profit.

So, uh, you may find me lacking in empathy.

Cheap skins is my wheelhouse:

1. Do not buy Racial Cultural weapon skins (except Tier 3) from the Cultural Vendors. These are all available through drops, and nearly all of them can be found for cheaper from some other vendor, or from the trading post if you get desperate.

2. For some seriously cheap Norn skins (less than 1 silver), look for a character named Sven in Wayfarer Hills. He has an event you must complete, after which he will run a long distance and become a vendor for about two minutes.

3. Androchus the Hidden, Latera Painstorm, Lakor Grizzlemouth, Vepar Darkheart, Crucibis Forgeweld, Lionguard Nadel, Environmental Activist Jenrys each sell at least one exclusive skin for little karma.

4. PvP remains the cheapest way to get many skins, via the dungeon and regional tracks. It also has the Balthazar track, which gives a unique backpiece, and the Glorious armor sets.

5. Personal Story used to award many awesome weapon and armor skins for free. Now these are limited to the very expensive Faction weapons (Whispers, Priory, Vigil). the Tier 1 chestpiece of cultural armor, and one or two armor pieces that used to be exclusive to PvP but are no longer in the game. Tier 3 Charr Cultural weapons used to be available through Personal Story, but I haven’t investigated it after the revamp.

6. Living Story and festivals often gives out exclusive armor skins for free (sometimes these become available from a vendor later). Currently you can earn Carapace and Luminescent armor from the Silverwastes area; it’s also home to the Welding Torch and more bandit bags then you can shake a stick at (which can give Bonetti’s Rapier, among other items). If you somehow missed Wintersday, the toy weapon skins are available for a few copper apiece on the trade post.

7. WvW Borderlands is home to the Armor Master and Weapon Master. These guys sell various skins and actual armor pieces for a combination of gold and Badges of Honor. WvW has three exclusive armor sets (Diviners, Mist Walker, Heavy Plate).

Some further followup on skinsets: there are several examples of skins using similar or identical models to skins in existing sets that don’t match the naming conventions:

Glyphic: X6-31 Beta (Glyphic Speargun with differing partical effects and color)
Verdant: Rockweed Spire (Verdant Trident with leaves on the haft and different color)
Flame: Flamebelcher (Flame Rifle as speargun), SteamFire (Flame Staff as trident)
Aureate: The Maelstrom (Aureate Staff as trident)
Shiverpeak: OooOoo Shooter (Shiverpeak Arquebus as speargun)
Legionnaire: Gladium Trident (Legionnaire Staff as trident)
Tribal: Drakestrike (Tribal Rifle as speargun)

IME, people are a little too hardheaded to let something like being a complete and obvious copy of another set member be good enough to allow membership in a set when the names don’t match. So, while I might include the wiki skins entries in the same sets, I haven’t bothered with adjusting the membership of the actual weapons.

Sariel V.7024

SPOILERS If you haven’t finished the latest episode yet, stop reading, there be spoilers ahead.

During the end cinematic of the latest episode, we can see a lot of sylvari going completely crazy and attack the pact. Including lionguard and pact members.
This is shown once again in the cinematic that follows immediately after.

Now I wonder if this will affect our Sylvari player characters. And if so, how?
While I doubt our Sylvari PC’s would go crazy and join Mordremoth, I really hope there will be at least some effects. Maybe hearing soft whispers from time to time or some graphical effects on the edge of the screen. Or simply being treated differently, like we saw happening to Canach.

I hope that there is at least something. It would be weird and disappointing if our player characters (and caithe/trahearne) are completely free of corruption for no reason other than plot convenience.

I find this an interesting idea (though it could get annoying). But how long would you want it to go on? Surely we’re going to kill Mordremoth at some point, story-wise, but effectively, he is permanently in the game, just like Zhaitan and the Risen.

Should we kick [spoiler] from our Guilds?

ANet Writers

Sariel V.7024

Piece of advice to the writers. Not everything needs to revolve around the dragons. Your world begins to look very two dimensional when almost every single piece of lore we have in game in some ways ties back to the elder dragons (The Mursaat, The Seers, The Dwarves, Scarlet, The Gods…). We get that they are the big bad and are super important, but too much of one thing gets very old. You’re also tampering with lore that a lot of people love and making it seem rather trivial because you know what ‘dragons did it’.

Unfortunately, there’s a very large, loud contingent of players who kitten and moan any time something non-kill-the-dragons comes up in the story. They want their plot spoon-fed and perfectly linear, with no distractions. Most of them are wondering why we aren’t on our 3rd dragon already.

I’ve seen something similar happen with JP chests, namely the one in Not So Secret. If you tried to get it by logging in daily, it would usually require more than 24 hours for the chest to reset, unless you changed your server. Doing that would cause it to appear.

That won’t help you get a reward for an event that you’ve already finished, since the chests are tied to the server you finish them on. But making sure you’re on a different server ( /ip ) before you start might help insure that the credit from the previous day’s encounter gets wiped.

BTW, it should only take about 15-30 minutes of playing elsewhere to get rid of DR.

[SUGGESTION] Ascalon Weapon Skin Box revamp

in PvP

Posted by: Sariel V.7024

Sariel V.7024

BACKGROUND:

There are several skins that went AWOL at the introduction of the Wardrobe back on 4/15/14. Most of these were aquatic weapon skins exclusive to PvP. The PvP reward tracks have given a possible means of recovering these skins through their intended play mode, but for the most part, there hasn’t been much synergy between the current weapon skins on offer (Ceremonial, Tribal, Legionnaire, Etched, dungeon) and the skins that are missing; Shaman’s Etched Short Bow is the lone exception that I know. However, there are two missing Legionnaire skins that could be substituted into Ascalon Regional reward box, where they actually belong, and this could be done without creating a new reward track to include them.

FIX:
The items needing remapped:

Legionnaire Harpoon Skin (item ID 65403): Currently uses skin ID 5216 (Legionnaire Spear). Change this to 4984 (Legionnaire Harpoon)

Legionnaire Trident Skin: Currently uses skin ID 5130 (Legionnaire Trident). Change this to 5167 (Gladium Trident, identical to Legionnaire Staff)

This would be a quick fix and would make some wardrobe addicts a little more happy
