I knew it.
Cynical mode activate!
I bet that they knew that this would upset players and so they did it on purpose so that they could “fix” it later and get the praise and thanks that everyone is showering them with. The problem is that 250 is STILL too much! What is so special about “elite” specs?! They did this and now they get all of this praise and still get to overly gate content to stretch the expansion out.
These should be equivalent to previous specs in cost. There should be more alternatives to gaining points beyond wvw and HPs in the new area (compare it to leveling if you must, you can level through wvw, pvp, pve, crafting). The masteries should be the leveling equivalent and I think most people are… ok… with that grind.
Also, HPs should ALL be soloable. There isn’t any reason for somebody to go to these HPs once they are done and so in the future these will be impossible to do without organized groups. We have our new organized group content (or will soon anyways) and I’m ok with the challenge that the general pve has (granted it feels a lot like pre-Orr with the ridiculous CC), so why must HPs be group content?! It doesn’t make sense.
Nah. Given how smooth the launch was, if they hadn’t had it 400 to start with, then ANet would have won a lot of praise over the expansion and how smooth of a launch they had.
As it is, the joy of the smoothness of the launch has been at least tempered if not overshadowed by this controversy.
Bear in mind that there are only 400 hero points available in all of maguuma. If they left it at 400, a new character would literally have to map comp all of maguuma (the hero points at least) in order to unlock their elite spec.
You don’t think thats just a BIT excessive?40 hero points technically, not 400. That’s not a lot and in a week there would have been detailed guides and an entire community dedicated towards getting them. This was an unneeded nerf and is turning the game into less of a game. I don’t want to play farming simulator, now I have less time to play explorer and more time to be farmer…
No, SongofDestruction is right. 400 hero points originally. 40 hero challenges is what you thought they were referring to.
I don’t see how reducing the number of hero points needed to fully unlock the elite spec reduces the time you have available to play explorer.
250 means one HoT HP Challenge on top of full HP complete from core Tyria. For those of us who have done that in core Tyria, I like it. For those who instalevel a new character, it would now take 7 HoT HP Challenges Vs 10 if they don’t go back to core Tyria.
It’s … fairish. This was becoming a thorn, so to speak, in the side of the expansion launch. But for the love of the six Gods don’t back off the Mastery system.
Actually, you have to spend all those hero points in everything else, BEFORE you even have the chance to unlock the elite spec and start training it. So, no, it doesn’t take 7 hp challenges.
No. You get enough HP from leveling to unlock everything on your character including the original 5 specializations. So you start with 0 going into HoT if you haven’t done any HP Challenges in core Tyria. HPCs in Hot are 40 points each so 250 divided by 10 is 25.
Edit: Fixed HoT HPC reward. Some reason I thought it was 40 (I know 400 divided by 10 is 40).
There are 213 hero challenges available in Central Tyria to everyone without any chance of having to find someone with a krait obelisk shard in their home instance.
That’s more than 1 hero challenge in Heart of Maguuma to fully unlock the elite spec.
At least 3 challenges.
Which means as long as there are 3 challenges that are both soloable and don’t require high level masteries, then this is probably the best compromise for all.
Those that prefer the challenge can get them all in the Heart of Maguuma areas and not have to worry about Central Tyria hero points or worry about one being bugged out. This change gives you enough buffer that as long as no more than 15 are buggy, then given the right skill and number of players, you should be able to avoid Central Tyria hero points all together.
Seera, don’t you think it would be much easier and better if we were able to hot key 2 or 3 skills to one key? These kinds of lay outs are messy and prone to error. Eles have long cool downs, so if you hit the wrong key, you’re kind of screwed.
Valiant, it doesn’t slow you down because when you use a skill, there is a pre-determined amount of time that you set, and if you hit the key again in that amount of time, then you use the next skill. In TERA, mine are set to 0.5 seconds, s it doesn’t slow me down at all.
Here’s what a full key bind would look like if this system were implements (using my keybinds as a left hander)
IJKL – Movement
> – Jump
UO – Target nearest and next
M1 – auto attack
M2 – Skill rotations 1-5
M3 – Elite
N – Atunement changesDoesn’t this look much better? This can be possible with the combo system from TERA. It would vastly cut down on errors, vastly increase playabilty for most players, everyone could easily and efficiently use the action cam system, AND it would probably make players abandon TERA for GW2. I don’t see any reason why this shouldn’t be done and every reason why it should.
And just because I was curious, I asked in a very populated Heart of the Mist pvp lobby if ANYONE was able to, as an elementalist, use the action camera system efficiently in pvp. You know what the reply was? Complete silence. Even if some can do it, it doesn’t make the fact that most can’t OK. So for most players, the action cam system is pretty much useless as it is. It doesn’t have to be that way.
I want to say this though, even though some people would have stopped reading long ago it seems, I’m not in any way asking for this to be done right now. I’m perfectly fine using the old camera. But I really love TERA’s battle system and the addition of the action cam made me remember just how awesome GW2 would be if everyone could use it all the time like in TERA. But I think this is something that should be done sometime in the future. If you disagree, then I’m sorry for trying to make the game better.
No, that wouldn’t be better. I’ve got small hands. Like tiny hands. Petite hands. The layout I gave is one that I can work without going to far from the movement keys.
I would double hit the key too quickly and hit the wrong skill. I would get hit by skill lag and hit the button too quickly and activate the wrong skill. Because I do sometimes in the middle of a zerg have to hit the button more than once to get it to actually register that I’ve hit it.
And those elementalists may not have tried the action camera. May have had map chat off or not paying attention to it. May have just decided to not respond to you because they were in the middle of a conversation with someone else. Or just decided to not respond for any other reason. Just because you got no response, doesn’t mean everyone agreed with you or even a majority.
And some people’s fun includes learning the twists in the story. Especially the major twists.
Some people have been inconsiderate enough to put the spoiler in the thread title. So those complaints are valid.
I have small hands. Which limits the number of keys I can press without moving too far from movement keys.
WASD – movement
1-5 – skills 1-5
Jump – spacebar
Dodge if you don’t double tap – v (puts it easy to hit that and space bar for the jump dodge)
Heal – Q
Z – Utility Skill closest to heal
X – Utility Skill in the middle
C – Utility Skill closet to Elite
E – Elite Skill
G – Fire Attunement (F1 skill)
H – Water Attunement (F2 skill)
B – Air Attunement (F3 skill)
N – Earth Attunement (F4 skill)
R – Auto run
F – Interact/Loot
There, that’s all of the skills and necessary features. Without messing with combinations.
I’m also missing mastery points in Tyria.
I currently have 24 unspent mastery points and 0 spent points.
I’ve achieved 24 of the 25 achievements in the Hero category that award mastery points. For Devs who are reading: I’ve gotten all of the personal story mission related achievements as well as the level 80 character achievement.
I’ve earned 1 of the 2 achievements in the Explorer category that award mastery points. I’ve gotten Lion’s Arch Exterminator.
I’ve earned none in Fashion or Bosses or Tequatle or Triple Trouble or Basic Collections or Rare Collections
I’ve earned 9 of the 14 Fractals of the Mists. I have gotten:
And that’s all. Based on that, I should have 34 Mastery Points.

A lot of people seem to think that because you paid for the expansion you should get everything unlocked right away. You paid or the content, not the end result.
This is not true. Only a small handful of those complaining on the forums are asking for things to be unlocked right away. Please actually read the comments instead of skimming them. You won’t miss details like that anymore.
And if you do truly think a lot of people do, please post direct links to posts where those lots of people explicitly stated they wanted it right away. Because I’ve been following this thread since it started and I can count the number of posts asking for everything right away on one hand.
Most people posting are asking for some combination of:
1. Hero Points Reduced. And reduced does not mean removed.
2. Hero Challenges in Heart of Maguuma made soloable.
3. The timers removed on the Hero Challenges.
4. More ways to earn Hero Points
5. More Hero Points per WvW rank
And I don’t really see how any combination of those makes them want it right away.
Some maps have areas with no points of interest or anything else in them. Those areas are required to really complete a map too but not calculated in the percentage. I had it happen to me in one of the core Tyria areas, don’t remember which one though.
That’s only for the exploration achievements, not for map completion.
By the way, there are supposed to be now map completion rewards for silverwastes, dry top and southsun. They are not rewarded retroactively however (and they definitely should).
Oh? I finished the last POI after HoT launched in Southsun Cove and got no reward.
Edit: Just found it in the patch update for HoT. I’ll be submitting a ticket in the morning.
Gaile, can we please get a mod looking at titles of some of the threads too? I came in today to post about something and got tons of spoilers as thread titles. I wont be back now until I finish the story I guess. -_-
If the topic has “Spoilers” I recommend that you don’t even open the thread, because you don’t have a way of knowing what is told, or when it will appear in the thread.
I think you might be missing what he/she means. I came into this forum today (fortunately I had completed this part of the story) but the title of a post was Spoiler"Eir is Dead!!!!". So she isn’t saying look through threads with spoiler in the title. She means read the titles of the threads because some titles in and of themselves, are spoilers.
To be fair to the OP of the post whose title you posted, that was a speculation thread and was initially posted back in July. It was based on promo pictures.

I think what CandyHearts is saying is that people are putting the spoiler IN the topic’s title. Meaning unless you avoid the forum, you can’t avoid the spoil.
1) But I and many people paid precisely to do that.
2) But I paid real money for it.
3) But I want to complete the maps with the elite spec. What should I do once I have it fully unlocked? Stand around and not caring for anything because I already did it?
4) The new content is designed to be harder than the core game, so switching a barely useful traitline with one that is not only fully leveled but also complementing my current build and available skills is nonsense. Of course people can technically use them, but you could also technically walk to work instead of drinving your car.
5) That point I do not even care about. It is a problem: people want to play the new classes, but instead of being able to do that and concentrate on the fun aspects of the game (story, new maps, events) they are forced to rush through, ruining every bit of exploration and immersion. I never expected to have my elite spec unlocked instantly, but through some kind of story or sidequest near the beginning of the new content. Needing 400 hero points, with 60 of them only just unlocking the ability to use a new weapon, is just to kitten much for something I and many other people paid 50 bucks to play as.
When you buy a Zelda game do you cry to Nintendo that you can’t go onto and complete the last dungeon, have all equipment, at the start of the game? Prerelease they marketed progression in this expansion to that of Zelda and Metroid, you knew what you were getting into.
Did you miss this line in your reading:

Stop skimming posts and making assumptions that fit your argument.
What? If you don’t want things used in an argument against you, don’t say them.
Yep, you skim. Didn’t even notice that I wasn’t the person you initially posted to.
Kaykero (NOT me, by the way), posted that they did not want the elites just handed to them and wouldn’t have been unhappy with a personal story type mission to unlock it.
Then you go in and ask if they wanted to do the end game content of Zelda and Metroid when they first start up the game. Completely missing the fact that that wasn’t was they were asking for.
Stop skimming and making assumptions that fit your argument. When your assumptions are based on your missing key parts of posts.

I also had this issue and wrote to support, I was told this was not a bug and that I simply had something still to discover.
If the map description says you’re at a 100% but you haven’t found everything, I would call that a bug. But that’s just me.
Some maps have areas with no points of interest or anything else in them. Those areas are required to really complete a map too but not calculated in the percentage. I had it happen to me in one of the core Tyria areas, don’t remember which one though.
Nonetheless, lack of visibility on this kind of area is confusing.
Congratz to OP for beating this painful map.
But those areas aren’t typically needed for getting map completion.

If the map description says you’re at a 100% but you haven’t found everything, I would call that a bug. But that’s just me.
1) No one’s claimed that you need it. Please find a link of someone claiming otherwise.
2) So how elite is your elite skill? How hard did you have to work for that? I don’t recall working any harder for my elite skill than my non-elite skills. So please find another reason or ask ANet to make it as hard to get your elite skill fully unlocked as it is for the elite spec.
3) Not everyone enjoys map exploration or WvW. Why should those players be forced to fully explore PvE or rank up 200 hundred times in WvW per character before they can go do what they prefer to do?
4) People are fully aware of that. Players just want to test the elite spec with it fully unlocked. So they can play with builds. So they can go into WvW or dungeons or fractals with their elite active and not feel like their hurting their group mates with an incomplete build.
5) This is the only point where you seem to grasp what the majority is asking for.
Most are NOT asking for it to be given to them yesterday. They are just asking for it to be made less time intensive and/or easier to do solo so that they can explore the new content in the order that THEY wish to go in.
Some players wanted to test the elite specs fully unlocked in Central Tyria before really exploring Heart of Maguuma fully or diving too much into the masteries. But ANet’s taken that away from players. You have to explore all of the maps to find all of the hero challenges. You have to do a fair amount in the masteries in order to get the hero points.
You don’t get on any ticket. You reply back to that ticket with any information asked in that ticket.
Then you wait for a response back. If it’s more than 7 days between your last reply without a response back from ANet then you can post in the sticky for tickets for review.
If you don’t get the automatic reply, then you’ve got to look into why. Check your spam folders, etc.
See this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Delayed-or-No-Ticket-Reply-Read-This/first#post4533589
Close the newest one. You only need one ticket.
It takes time for them to answer. If you haven’t gotten a response and only the automated instant reply in 7 days, you can post the GW2 Tickets for review thread.
And they will help you if they can.
You need to contact support. We can’t help you on the forums. Link is at the top of the page.

There are different types of players and it’s hard to appease all types of players.
1. The mechanics loving players. They primarily are playing the game because they love the mechanics. The look of the place and the characters are secondary. The lore isn’t a big draw. They don’t need to explore every nook and cranny.
2. The lore loving players. These guys are primarily in games for the story. The mechanics and look are secondary. This group includes the RP’ers.
3. The exploration loving players. These guys care how the world and the inhabitants look graphics wise.
Each group also has it’s opposite. And the lore haters and the exploration haters will still be found playing the game. Since it’s hard to avoid mechanics, most mechanics haters won’t be found playing the game.
The mechanics lovers but exploration haters don’t particularly enjoy being told that they have to explore the new maps to unlock the new mechanics. This is also true for the lore lovers but exploration haters. They don’t like having to explore the map in order to get mastery points to spend their mastery experience on so that they can experience the next story step. They are less miffed since masteries are account bound, unlike hero challenges.
And of course it’s a scale between love and hate and this affects when things become a grind and if something is even fun to begin with.
And unfortunately, it can be hard to develop a system that all groups will enjoy equally. Some group will hate it.
Some do. Through the Ultimate Collection for the 4000 gems to convert to gold to give their gold buying clients. Hence why a delay was put in place for the handing out of the gems.
They would not hack an account and upgrade it, they would simply create a new account (with fake information on it) with the HOT key.
You said that players who have bought gems should not have their account suspended if they buy a fraudulent key. That’s treating those who can and those who can’t differently.
Where? I do not read that in my posts.
People should research any site they buy from to make sure it’s a legit site that doesn’t sell fraudulent keys. If a person uses a site that has a rep for selling fraudulent keys knowingly or unknowingly, then they shouldn’t be surprised if they find their account suspended for buying a fraudulent key. Because they chose to use a site that they knew sold those keys or didn’t take the time to research if they did.
This has been addressed here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Purchased-expansion-Account-not-upgraded/page/2#post5655019
The site has the status Good in trust reviews. There is a relatively good amount of good reviews compared to bad ones. There’s a mixture of suspend and HoT access removal because it is possible to just buy HoT without having the core game. Those without a separate core GW2 key likely get suspended as they don’t have a legit key. Those with a core GW2 key likely just get their HoT access removed as they have a core game key that’s legit.
Almost everyone who got suspended already had the core game for a long time. There were only a few that got HOT removed as it should have been for everyone. It was addressed by the game lead support (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Tickets-for-Review-7-days-older-1/page/9#post5655004) as an error, but only that 1 person got his account back that way as far as we know.
Then how are you able to post in the forum? Account suspension usually also includes lack of forum access.
Either way, I’d contact support and go wtf, my core game key is legit, why am I fully suspended?
Account and forum access is still possible. Also the core key is still linked and even active. HOT is not active. And only the game client is suspended.
I think we almost all contacted support already 3 days ago, and some made multiple tickets since they told they would not replay on the first ticket anymore due to it being for a non authorized key. Support ignores the part of being suspended and/or the fact that we had a valid core game and only reacts on the HOT key. That is why some people made a second ticket or went to the forum for unsolved tickets.
New accounts have restrictions on what you can mail. This includes gold. Hacked accounts do not have those restrictions unless they get unlucky and hack a new account.
And this post (with the bold being my emphasis):
They should INFORM the user first that his key is not good and just not activate HOT (or downgrade AND give information). Also, they should NEVER suspend the other part of the account (core game). Communication is important. the lack is what gives everyone problems and also the time it takes to even get response or a solution. They should know about it by now, and they should have a list with affected players, so they can fix this scenario for everyone (downgrade the account instead of suspension).
If someone is playing for years on that account and has bought gems with it, changes are big it is not an fraudulent account!
You’re missing the point of the people who have voiced their displeasure.
They don’t want to play through the new content (excluding elite specs for those who consider them content) with the core specs. They want to play through the new content with fully unlocked elite specs.
ANet has also removed the player’s choice of what order they get to experience the new content. They’ve made map completion and masteries have to be the first two looked at.
I used my Elite Spec instantly (the Shield and mechanics were too much to miss out on) and grew more powerful as I went through the content – as I progressed. You really don’t need to do the content in the way you least enjoy.
And some people wanted to test out fully unlocked elites in core Tyria (where they know the difficulty and mechanics) before having to really do too much in Heart of Maguuma. ANet removed that option from players by locking the elite specs behind such a high number of hero points and limiting the number of hero challenges and methods to obtain hero points.
Edit: And no, I’m not advocating that they give out fully unlocked elite specs with no work at all before anyone assumes that. Just because I disagree with the number required and the amount of work needed to get them doesn’t mean I want the number to go down to an amount that most can get it fully unlocked in under a minute.
Here’s how it happens:
Johnny runs a key selling site. He uses stolen credit cards to buy keys from ANet or an authorized seller that he sells for less than retail.
The authorized seller or ANet has no way of knowing in that instant of purchase that the card is stolen. So it issues Johnny the keys.
Time passes and people then realize their card info was stolen and then pass that information along to their credit card companies. The credit card company tells ANet or the authorized reseller that the owner of the card didn’t authorize these purchases and their card [info] had been stolen. ANet doesn’t know that Johnny has sold the key(s) to someone else. ANet thinks Johnny has the key(s). So ANet voids the key(s) and deals with the accounts as necessary.
oooh, so this was the place where someone from Anet told something about better not buy from 3th party.
“Some sites are good, some are bad, but we will not give you all the good ones so just try your luck or buy for more at our store..”
Many people got their account suspended now!
Why did Anet not made an official point on this thing and told exactly where to buy and where not and why did they not communicate this on front page news, but do we need to delve deep into the forum for this?!
And if this was not possible, why do they suspend the accounts off all these VICTIMS without giving any support, information or warning at all?!
This is not how you threat the community Anet! And what if they missed a site that’s good? What if a site is legit when they review it but then starts stealing keys due to change of management? So they only keep a list of authorized sellers and don’t maintain a list of middlemen between the authorized sellers and players.
And they suspend the accounts because ANet does not know if the player is a victim or a willing participant in the deal. And those who would steal keys would lie and say they weren’t aware the site dealt in stolen keys, so asking about it wouldn’t be a good solution.
They should INFORM the user first that his key is not good and just not activate HOT (or downgrade AND give information). Also, they should NEVER suspend the other part of the account (core game). Communication is important. the lack is what gives everyone problems and also the time it takes to even get response or a solution. If someone is playing for years on that account and has bought gems with it, changes are big it is not an fraudulent account! And how is ANet supposed to know? There’s still a chance the player was aware that it was a fraudulent key. So the player who can’t afford to buy gems gets to have his account suspended while the one who can doesn’t? That’s unfair to the person who can’t afford to buy gems. They’re just as legit as the one who can.
The only fair solution is to treat every account the same. Because there is no litmus test that will determine whether accounts are legit or fraudulent with 100% accuracy.
I have never said to treat accounts with or without gems different.
Anet knows it is good since that player has been legit for all these years. I also don’t think an account that was actively used and was good for 3 years will suddenly be used by hackers or scammers to add a HOT key (that already includes core).
Point is that core key is good, expansion key is not. They should draw the line there. And how would a player know he has a fraudulent key? I don’t think a key-generator or such exists, and I don’t think that if you buy a key they will tell you it is fraudulent.
Some do. Through the Ultimate Collection for the 4000 gems to convert to gold to give their gold buying clients. Hence why a delay was put in place for the handing out of the gems.

Goodbye theory. Then how are you able to post in the forum? Account suspension usually also includes lack of forum access.
Either way, I’d contact support and go wtf, my core game key is legit, why am I fully suspended?
I am in contact with support, but I try to stay as polite as possible.
Seemingly you can be suspended, unable to access the game, but still login to your account page and post on the forum, for some reason. My HoT Expansion was revoked, which I understand and have no problem with, but the suspension in my particular case is just full out rediculous and all GW2 Support has done so far is confirm that I added a fraudulent HoT key and told me they will probably not even answer on further questions regarding this suspension.
So I’m sure you can imagine the things that are going through my head right now.
RIP 6 Legendaries?
I’d probably be just as angry as you are about the situation.
But keep up with Support. And if you get the no more replies response too many times, post in the GW2 tickets for review. It’s also the place to appeal support decisions. You just have to make sure you’ve gone through the full process.
I hope they give your access to the game back sooner rather than later. And that is really weird that it’s just a game suspension and not forum as well since those usually go together.
You’re missing the point of the people who have voiced their displeasure.

They should know about it by now, and they should have a list with affected players, so they can fix this scenario for everyone (downgrade the account instead of suspension).
If someone is playing for years on that account and has bought gems with it, changes are big it is not an fraudulent account!
You said that players who have bought gems should not have their account suspended if they buy a fraudulent key. That’s treating those who can and those who can’t differently.
There’s a mixture of suspend and HoT access removal because it is possible to just buy HoT without having the core game. Those without a separate core GW2 key likely get suspended as they don’t have a legit key. Those with a core GW2 key likely just get their HoT access removed as they have a core game key that’s legit.
I had the Core game for 3 years and upgraded with a supposingly fraudulent key and I have my full account suspended.
Goodbye theory.
Then how are you able to post in the forum? Account suspension usually also includes lack of forum access.
Either way, I’d contact support and go wtf, my core game key is legit, why am I fully suspended?
oooh, so this was the place where someone from Anet told something about better not buy from 3th party.

And just so you have the right expectations:
Support can’t bypass the week timeout on transfers from what I’ve read. You will be stuck on the server until the timeout has passed.
And if in that timeout period the server gets marked as full or is at full and isn’t opened up, they may not be able to transfer you back. Just due to the limitations of the system. I don’t know if Support is able to bypass that or not.

Hey folks,
Lots of passionate feedback and discussion in here on either side, and a friendly reminder that constructive feedback helps us make better games (please do keep it constructive!) We don’t always get every detail perfect the first time, but I like to think one of our strengths is we’re always open to and listening to feedback from our community and making good decisions based on that feedback.
Ultimately, we’re thrilled with the parts of HoT everyone is enjoying. Your passion is awesome, and it’s part of why we all love creating this game. In particular, in game we’ve seen a really positive reaction to the game from folks who are busy playing, which has been really cool to see.
While we never like to rush and make snap decisions, in particular with a game that’s basically been out less than three days; I think there are some fair points in here for us to discuss. Much like other feedback about HoT, we’ll be discussing this as well!
Thanks again!
If ANet takes more than 1 week to fix the Hero points requirements a lot of players will give up on GW2.
As ANet knows better than us, once you lose the big hype train there is nothing to do…remember FF XIV.
It is a pitty that the HoT expansion can be ruined by just 1 aspect of the game, 1 wrong decision made by the wrong person at the wrong time.
1 week, please make it happen ANet!
I’d rather them take a month to get the right solution than to have 4 weeks worth of solutions until they get to the right solution. Or a buggy solution because they rushed it that stops everyone’s progression instead of it just being a slow progression.
Don’t get me wrong, I do think the system needs changing. But I’d rather the best fix than any fix. They do need to keep us posted and release more information than usual if the fix isn’t a quick one.
4 weeks is an eternity for a newly released MMO expansion.
The amount of negative feedback produced during 4 weeks all around the Web will completely undermine ANet future efforts to save HoT.
If I was ANet I would immediately greatly reduce the hero points requirements and then work with a bit more time in other less positive aspects of the game.
Like I said, they would need to keep us posted and post more information than usual if the fix isn’t a quick one. Like in 1 week, if a solution isn’t found go:
“Hey, we’re still working on a solution. We’ve decided to do an optional story mission unlock that will reward you with 40 Notarized Scrolls of Maguuma Heroics (they complete 1 one random hero challenge in Heart of Maguuma). This is going to take some time as we need to get the voice actors in studio for recording. And write scripts. And code the story mission. We’re also trying to figure out how to keep both methods in game for those who don’t mind the hero point challenge and want it to be a challenge. This is going to take a week or two to make sure we have as few bugs as possible and we may need more time if a voice actor isn’t immediately available.”
Then weekly updates on the progress if it isn’t out within the week.
It would also be a different story if they never plan to add anymore elite specs. But they do. Their solution to the elites now sets a precedent for all future elite specs. Future ones can’t be any easier or harder on average than the ones we’ve got now. I’d rather not have the quick solution be found and it just be a tolerable one. Because then we’ll have to tolerate it for future elite specs as well.
oooh, so this was the place where someone from Anet told something about better not buy from 3th party.

I’m sure this game is rated T for teen?
Yep, there it is at the bottom of the page.
Yet here we are, page 55 in the megathread of whiny children that spent 9 months complaining about wanting to play HoT and are now complaining about having to play HoT…
Modern gamers, I’ll never understand your sense of entitlement.
And you didn’t really read the posts. You just skimmed.
Players want to play the new content (excluding elite specs if you consider them content) with fully unlocked elite specs. Not wind up with a fully unlocked elite spec when they’re most of the way through playing the rest of the new content.
They’re upset that ANet’s decided the order in which they experience the new content.

EDIT: I will say this again, someone BOUGHT this with 50 bucks, from arenanet, then gave it to me for 30. That’s not fraudulent, not in the slightest.
You really think someones paid full price just to sell it to you for a profit loss?
Or perhaps they managed to steal it so they could sell it to you for 100% of the profit?
Think. How is it someone is able to sell something for $30 which normally cost almost twice that amount, without being an authorized dealer?
Think of this as your first lesson in the adult world
Retail stores do this all the time. It’s called a loss leader.
Grocery stores do this with 2 liter bottles of soda.
It gets people to their store where they may purchase items with enough profit margin to make up for the loss they take on the item with the great sale.
Like candy at the register. Or the chips they’ve strategically placed on the end of the soda aisle. Or the other items they were heading to the store to buy – they just prefer it if it’s from their store and not their competition.
They stated for me they would deactivate my account if I went through with it. Just e-mail support. Hope you’re luckier than me as it seems many others have had success.
If you’ve got a separate GW2 key, I’d follow up and go: but I purchased GW2 separately and This Thread on the official forum (include link to thread) says that they’ve had their HoT purchased refunded without deactivating their account.
If they still don’t, I would post in the GW2 Sticky for Tickets without a response. It’s also the place to have your ticket looked at in cases where you disagree with support’s decision.

People keep saying “grind”. I really want a definition because “grind” has always meant doing repetitive boring tasks over and over again to achieve a goal. This isn’t grind. This is what GW2 has always been, but ramped up. It’s events. It’s exploration. It’s adventuring. If you find it boring, then it’s not worth it. Go do something else.
Would you be upset if you spent money on something that you thought was going to be fun but turned out not to be? Would you remain silent about your being upset if there was a way for you to constructively voice your opinion?
Also, even the most fun activity can become a grind if you do it long enough. Some people reach that “long enough” faster than others.

People. Want. To. Play. The. New. Content. With. The. Elite. Specs. They’ve. Been. Anticpating. For. Months. This is not a difficult concept to comprehend!
You. Can. Play. The. New. Content. With. Elite. Specs. When. You. Get. Them.
It’s a matter of how soon really, I had zero issues unlocking my first elite spec fully last night, it took me under a full day essentially to do so, and that was without the full Masteries required for some of them unlocked. Dragonhunter will be easier on my second run.
Furthermore, some elite specializations depending on what you really want don’t require the full 400, I didn’t need the last 60 points in my Berserker Specialization Tree to play what I wanted for instance.
Some people have been assuming players who say that they want to play the elite spec mean just the trait line selected. The point where you’ve only got 60 points invested into it. You obviously get what they’re saying. Just many on the forum do not and assume. Hence Hyper Cutter making it more noticeable what he means.
It may depend on if you had owned GW2 before you bought HoT. If you were a Play for Free or had not owned core GW2 until you pre-purchased HoT, you likely wouldn’t be able to get a refund without losing the core game.

Some players wanted to experience the new content (excluding elite specs) while playing fully unlocked elite specs.
With this change, most players have to experience the new content (excluding elite specs) while playing either a core spec or a partial elite spec.
ANet didn’t communicate that they felt the elite specs were part of the end game character progression. So many people assumed that what unlocks it had, if any, would not take as long as they’ve discovered the current method takes.
I wanted enough money to buy a legendary the day I started playing. The question is, is that want a reasonable thing. I don’t believe it is.
People also wanted progression and for years have complained about lack of progression. The Elite spec is the character progression, and the masteries are the account progression BY DESIGN.
So people can want anything they want, but it isn’t going to affect design decisions that run much deeper.
I have five characters with world complete and another that’s almost completed the world. If they significantly lowered the point total,, I’d have no character progression. And that’s good for some people and not good for others. Furthermore there are a lot of people it’s good for that don’t think it is.
Both my sons played Guild Wars 2 until they got their max level gear and stopped playing. They came back only when ascended gear came out. They got their ascended gear and stopped playing again.
Too many people need stuff to work for that’s linear, to max out their power. It’s unfair but that’s how it is in this genre. If you want to blame someone, blame WoW who set up that situation and everyone ended up copying it.
It’s what players have come to expect when playing an MMO.
Anet’s first responsibility to the game is to keep people playing it. And the masses, unfortunately, have been programmed by other games to need something specific to work towards.
While I agree asking for changes to have most players get the elite spec fully unlocked on day 1 of trying is a bad decision, leaving it at 400 with the current time needed to get to the hero challenges (masteries and waiting for groups for the ones that require it) may not be the best thing for the game in the long term.
People are already saying that when they’ve asked the map for help on a hero challenge the responses they get are “sorry, I’ve done that one before” and we’re still in the launch weekend. What’s going to happen in 6 months when player population isn’t as skewed toward the new maps as it is on top of launch? When most players have done all the hero challenges they need to unlock their elite specs on the characters they’re interested in getting them for.
So maybe taking it down to 300 hero points. Or resetting everyone’s skills and traits and saying you don’t need to fully unlock every trait to unlock the ability to train the elite. Or resetting the skills and traits in the elite spec line and rearranging them so that you can at least get a complete trait line and a skill or two before going after every possible adept trait.
Or adding in new ways to get hero points.
Adjusting the WvW conversion to be a little bit easier (say 100 to 150 rank ups total instead of 200).
They don’t need to completely remove the progression from fully unlocking the elite spec to make many of those complaining happy.
I’ve seen very few ask for it to be fully unlocked upon reaching level 80 alone (I have unfortunately seen that be asked for).
Just a tic for tac reply to the troll. Also saying “get better” isn’t necessary an insult. Could be a challenge to rise up to the occasion and an opportunity for personal growth.
But a better response would be asking what the person who was having trouble had for their build. Then when they reply, saying: have you tried X?
Without the auditory clues, “get better” could be an insult or not.
As for me, I can’t solo the champs in Orr because I can’t seem to figure out how to move and hit my skills smoothly. I can do one or the other, but not both. Verdant Brink the regular mobs get me! But I know it’s a combination of the newness, the difficulty of the mobs, and my bad skills than just the difficulty of the mobs themselves. Playing on my squishy Tempest with only the skills one can earn from 100% Central Tyria mapping invested in the trait line is also contributing. I don’t have the health to cover the mistakes.

Mine is an Asura named Mistseer Xinna
The fact that it’s already feeling grindy by the first/second day is a bad thing
Again if that is grindy to you then what is not grindy to you, you don’t have to farm the same events over and over again and you don’t have to stay in verdent brink.
I know, I didn’t. I got 8/11 of the hero points there, then left because the rest looked like they were gated behind masteries (I later found out that 4 of them were supposed to be, it was a mesmer specific thing that made one of them possible to get without it), rushed through each of the other maps to farm hero points to unlock the chronomancer spec that fixes the awful zoo playstyle of the base mesmer, and was so burned out at the end that I wanted nothing more to do with the new maps.
And this comes back to my point of view where it is only day 1 and that should take it a step at a time and if you ever feel like its to grindy just stop and go do something else and then continue with what you need to.
That doesn’t really solve the problem, though. At most they’ll only be able to do it again for a few hours or however it took them to feel the grind the first time before they feel it again.
And different people have different thresholds for grind. For me, for whatever reason Lornar’s Pass and Dredgehaunt Cliffs are a grind to map complete (I’m a completionist when it comes to map completion). It takes about 15 minutes in those maps and I’m ready to bail. Even though there’s different stuff to do on those maps. Other maps I’m fine on (except areas with Ascalonian ghosts, I don’t like fighting them for some reason).
So just because there are different things to do on the map or to progress towards getting the elite spec fully unlocked, doesn’t mean the process can’t begin to feel grindy within a few hours for some.
Im not trying to say that anybody opinion is invalid what I was trying to say is to take a step back and view something that it is in fact first day and that things that are grindy might take some time.
Then your phrasing was off as I read it as you saying the opinions that it was grindy were invalid.
And for skills and traits for a supposedly not any more powerful than any other spec line, it really shouldn’t feel grindy to complete it for the average player in just two days.
It’s not your place to tell people that their opinion is invalid.
Different people have a different threshold for when something becomes a grind. For you it doesn’t happen in a day. But for others it may only be a few hours. Or they’re thinking that when they get to their 5th alt it will be a grind and are speaking up now.
It’s not your place you tell him that his opinion is invalid about his opinion on someone else’s opinion being invalid.
Didn’t say it was invalid now did I? I just said it wasn’t his place to call opinions invalid.
It’s not your place to tell people that their opinion is invalid.
Different people have a different threshold for when something becomes a grind. For you it doesn’t happen in a day. But for others it may only be a few hours. Or they’re thinking that when they get to their 5th alt it will be a grind and are speaking up now.
You had no hero points stolen from you. There are only a finite number of hero points in the game.
There are 398 hero points awarded from leveling up to 80. There are 214 hero points available in Central Tyria (spread out over 214 hero challenges worth 1 point each). There are 400 hero points available in Heart of Maguuma (spread out over 40 hero challenges worth 10 points each).
Spirit shards were converted from skill points obtained for “leveling up” after you hit 80 and from the consumable skill point scrolls.
How they did this was, they reset everyone’s traits and skills. Then they deleted everyone’s skill points after recording the number of skill points they had. They took what level the character was and how many hero challenges they had completed and that became the number of hero points they have. The remaining number of skill points got converted to spirit shards.
In other words if a player had only gotten out of the tutorial instance before the change and a player consumed enough skill point scrolls to max out their skills before the change, they would have had 0 hero points and a bunch of spirit shards. Because they hadn’t hit the appropriate level to get hero points and they had done no hero challenges.
You had no hero points stolen from you because you didn’t use them on skills before the change happened.
On how many characters have you unlocked more than half of your elite spec?
The majority of the players complaining either have a fair number of alts or primarily only play WvW.
One day, no, scratch that, 6 hours, that’s how long it took me to unlock half my elite spec and that’s not knowing the map at all and figuring out how to get to each hero point which took forever.
Once you know the map, it’ll probably take you a few hours to unlock all the hero points needed, itzel and gliding masteries included.
And.. people want it even easier..
I didn’t ask how long. I asked how many characters. Then asked you how many times you think you could do it and not find it a grind.
I am however on your side that ANet shouldn’t rush to a decision on the matter as this will set precedent for future elite spec unlocks.
