Bugger, I'm not eligible for a free char slot
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Or exchange Gold for Gems.
Sorry to have assumed you purchased from ArenaNet. Purchasing from Amazon, you would not have been eligible for a refund, anyway. No business gives refunds when you purchase a product elsewhere.
I bought the core game directly from Anet, and that’s what would have been refunded, but because I bought the expansion from Amazon they wouldn’t, which is silly as they’re an official reseller.
And I don’t have anywhere near enough gold sadly.
Then they may have misunderstood what you wanted a refund for, possibly. They might have thought you were wanting a refund for HoT and not the base game.
Make sure you reference the page about the refund of the core game when purchasing the new one. Say that you’re aware you’re out of the time period but were away during that time. Here’s the link: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ/#Additional
And if they can’t refund the cost due to where you purchased HoT, then ask if they could do the alternative option they had for the refund for those who purchased the core game from a retailer: a free character slot.
As for them not being able to refund if not bought from them, that’s like buying an HP computer from an Office Depot then contact HP directly when you want to return it. HP’s going to say they can’t refund your money and to go to Office Depot.

Dungeons are not the same as home instances. Dungeons require a group to complete, more or less, and are also considered a group activity that necessitates the need for the LFG tool. Home instances are no such thing.
Don’t make me laugh… the LFG is blighted with adverts selling spots for players to stand their and watch the last 1% of a boss melt in seconds… that is not legitimate grouping purposes of a dungeon that is exploiting the LFG in order to make coin… and I would hazard a guess many of them have utilised a variety of known exploits in order to get to boss time and time again throughout the day.
Then of course ANET suddenly wash their hands of whole selling spots thing when players hand over the money and get booted out before its completed.. sure they might catch the culprit but you don’t get your money back cos its allowed but “not supported”.. double standards again. The scammers only get punished because scamming is against the TOS and they only get caught if the person scammed has in game proof. They don’t get punished because they allow dungeon selling.
They neither support nor prohibit dungeon selling.
Errmm.. pretty sure that’s what I just said
But it’s not double standards.
Selling dungeons which were exploited or in which they kicked other members out of in order to sell the spots are both against the TOS so if you suspect that has happened, feel free to report them for the appropriate category.
You are only allowed to sell spots in a dungeon group if:
1. You didn’t exploit the dungeon at all.
2. You don’t kick anyone out in order to sell their spot.
You only need to unlock the Legendary weapon once to get the skin. Simply skin an Ascended weapon, and you’ll have another. To take that further, get Ascended weapons with different stat combos you like, and skin them all the same. Then you can swap out “Legendaries” to fit your build.
I think the problem is “twice told legend” achievement being only doable, apparently by using the old (potentially uglier, and who knows harder?) legendaries.
I highly doubt ANet makes any balance decisions around the achievement they put in to give something to players who made two daggers for their double dagger thief or ele before the wardrobe update. Especially when they leave in the way to obtain it. If they had removed it, they likely would have let it stay out for 6 months to a year and then retired it, if not retiring it right away.
If you want dungeon tokens… then run dungeons….
Dungeons are still the best source of XP for masteries, the only source of dungeon tokens, and we don’t know what the “shifted” rewards even are yet.
The shifted rewards are going to come up in Fractals most likely, not Dungeons. When explicitly asked if the reason for the gold nerf in Dungeons was to deincentivize them he said in the thread where he was reposting questions about the economy in this forum:
Is the intention to deincentivize dungeons
Yes
This leads me to believe it won’t be in an increased drop of loot.
As for tokens he was asked about Dungeon tokens explicitly and he said:
Q.
What about dungeon tokens? As it stands, you need ~170 dungeon runs to get the complete armor/weapon skin set. Will they be nerfed as well?A.
No, they’ll be the same as before.
So the shift isn’t coming via more tokens. My guess is Fractals will get the bulk of the shift.
I ordered and paid for mine on October the 9th at just before lunch, it’s now9am on the 13th and I’ve not received my Gem’s in game yet. My credit card has been charged.
I’ve received 2 e-mails.
Guild Wars 2 – Order Confirmation (Order #lotsanumbas)
Which has my key. Once I applied the key it took about 24 hours for a second e-mail to come in saying my payment was received.
It’s been 69+ hours since the 2nd e-mail was received and 93+ hours since i entered my credit card. I still don’t have the gems.-Babs.
Contact support. They should be able to tell you what the delay is or help clear up whatever is holding things up.

So yesterday I was hanging with my neighbour and decided to show her GW2. Boy was i wrong. The moment i logged in i was greeted by supernova explosion of skill flashes (logged out in World Boss place). She was so impressed she had a seisure cause she had epilepsy – a condition i was not aware before that. So after getting her to hospital i had a few thoughts:
1. Why is there NO EPILEPSY WARNING? The game is so flashy it HAS to have it in big bold letters at the start screen.
2. I checked options panel and did not find a suitable tool to tone down the brightness of skills only. Can we have that option?Your friend is responsible for understanding what triggers her epilepsy and not Anet. I don’t wont too see big bold letters on the start screen either.
How is someone supposed to know if a game has their trigger or not if they aren’t aware of what’s in the game?
The OP was not aware of the neighbor’s epilepsy and therefore could not ask “Hey will flashy lights trigger you?”.
Likely an unavoidable downside to how they had to set things up for the precursor collections. What you could do is make the new dagger and make Incinerator and then reskin Incinerator to look like the new dagger.
what hero point needs a group?
Probably referring to the ones blocked by group events. Depending on the tools available to your class, you may or may not be able to solo it. The stealth consumable should however get the job done for the guarded ones. The hero challenge blocked by the Temple of Melandru however requires invulnerability/blocks/evades since you’re spammed with interrupting roots. I haven’t seen that since the megaservers however.
The average player is just playing the game, so these hero challenges are going to seem impossible to solo.
I’ve seen it once, but I don’t think I was on during peak times.
I did go get one of the consumables that grants invulnerability and stealth and was able to grab it I believe. I can’t remember what I grabbed, though.

I know you said more or less but you still said dungeon require a group to complete which is not true at all. The only thing group oriented about dungeons is that you are allowed to enter with a group, an aspect that home instances and dungeons share.
Dungeons are designed and balanced around having a group enter and complete it. Home instances are not.
Some paths do require more than one player and can not be soloed completely. CoE explorable requires 4-5 players for the laser room. And the laser room is in all 3 paths.
i think its not fair to make ppl wait for what they pay for. i would like my gems. i mean we are loyal customers for christ sake. so anet do us all a solid. show us how much you care about us.
So do you want to pay for the differences in inflation that I’d have to pay due to that?
You do realize that the waiting period is because ANet cares about us.
I went with a guild-pack of mesmers. I tried several times on a the shortest sylvari and kept hitting my toe on the final pipes. Two of my guildies (on asura) got it, first try. I switched to asura… and completed.
That’s curious, because the hit-boxes are supposed to be the same for all races.
Likely it’s more related to the view. Asura are smaller so you can see better when to jump. And for me, I’m more careful on my smaller Asura because she is smaller than the others even though I know she has the same footprint as a Charr.
Over the last week we have seen an increased fraud purchase attempt rate for our Heart of Thorns Ultimate edition. Because of this increased fraudulent attempt rate, gem delivery for Heart of Thorns Ultimate may be delayed up to 72 hours after purchase.
Close to 73 hours now since I bought HoT Ultimate, from the link ingame..
still no gems..
Contact support. Only they have the tools to fix the problem if your purchase went through smoothly.
Check your credit card statement to make sure nothing got rejected.
“We’re investigating the connection between guild mission reset times and raids reset times, and we will know more in the upcoming weeks.” Don’t they decide what the connection is between those two things? Or do you think by that they meant that they are deciding if the two need to be together?
P.S.Gaile, i dont know where you got this info of course but it seems’ as likely as anything else that someone told you something and then changed there mind, so i was wondering if other people you work with understand how the community gets when they receive false information from our lord and saviour arenanet?
And bugs happen. I highly doubt enough people changed their mind last minute enough to change the reset times without time to tell anyone.
Also mention at the beginning of the dungeon run that you’re new to this dungeon/path. People are much more forgiving and helpful if they know you’re new to dungeons/that path before the fifth wipe.
And read and respect the LFG. Don’t join groups you don’t belong in and if you’re unsure because of a vague LFG, ask if you aren’t instantly kicked. Better to be kicked before the run than in the middle.
Exp means experienced, not explorable. You’ll want to avoid those groups until you know the dungeons well.
Most likely my main. An Elementalist. She might go Tempest. Tackle the Personal Story and exploration with the character I’m best at.
But I might alternate between her and my planned Revenant.
So instead of 5 berserkers getting to chose to play with eachother, you want to force them to play with anyone who can have every stat combination thinkable out there.
Some how that aint bullying but they wanting to play with eachother and exluding you is?
I stated in a previous post that I acknowledge the right of meta players to play meta. anet has stated that it “left gear/build inspect functions out of the game on purpose” I am washing my hands of this topic and would once again like to say to everyone on this thread. stop talking about group mechanics as it obviously upsets everyone involved. if you would like to talk about revenants and raid mechanics that is what this thread is for, at least that is what it was intended for. I am no longer acknowledging posts about group mechanics. so much unnecessary aggression in this thread. I am reminded about a one page ad in a roleplaying magazine when I was younger about a white wolf game called wraith the oblivion. it was a grey smoke colored page with the blurry words “it’s only a game” written over and over and over.
You can’t control what people do and do not post in a thread. People aren’t going to stop talking about it just because you say you’re done. They’re not and others on the forum aren’t either. You don’t own this thread. Yes, you’re the OP and have set the topics for the thread, but you don’t own the thread.
Hi all,
I hate to make a new topic, but nothing comes up when I search the forums, and I can’t tell how current the google search results are.
I played the game at launch for a few months and I’d like to get back into it. However, I want to switch to the server that a friend is on, which is full (jade quarry). Is this possible if I try during off hours, or am I wasting my time?
You can play everything in the game with your friend, even if they are on a different server, except for WvW. As long as you guys are in the same party, you’ll end up in the same map automatically (at worst, you can right-click their portrait and choose “join in ____” to move to their instance).
JQ is likely to remain full for several months, if not longer. If you guys want to WvW together, you might want to consider FA or SoS — T2 servers which have pretty good fights (mostly against TC at the moment).
And to add to this:
You may be able to do Edge of the Mists part of WvW with your friend on some weeks assuming you’re on the same color maps that week. Which will be possibly unless you’re on one of the other T1 servers (Tarnished Coast and Blackgate I believe are the others. I don’t know if there’s another or not).
and it is not bullying to say “play my way or else?” this is what the zerk only meta does everyday. I am trying to ask for a system where every player is considered equal regardless of their play style and is welcomed into any activity they choose to participate in. being asked for a zerk gear or min/maxer build as a requirement to do content is just as overbearing as what you are saying I am doing. I am sorry if you felt bullied. telling our friends to go away because you don’t want to play with them because they play “wrong” is bullying. that having been said I once again apologize if I have wronged you in any way. and I would once again like to stop talking about group dynamics in this thread as it is apparently a very touchy subject.
Step into the shoes of the players who don’t join properly written LFG’s and demand players play meta anyway. The ones who only join the “p1 zerk ping gear” groups when they’re wanting to play meta with other people who want to play meta.
Your solution is to get rid of the ability for those players to PUG with each other easily. You told them “Sorry, you can’t play how you want to play because your side has jerks that try to force casual runs to be speed runs.” Those jerks are in a minority. And there are jerks on the casual side who purposely join speed run groups in non-meta gear and lie about their gear in order to get carried because how dare someone want to play with others with the same goal.
Your solution is hypocritical (no I’m not saying you are, just your solution).
they sound very different, but as others have expressed that my experience may not have been typical, I can’t say for sure.
If most of your time is during the week, that could be why your groups take longer to fill.
During the day many people have errands to run or chores to do if they aren’t at school or working. They don’t typically have time to slot for half hour or longer dungeon (all welcome groups can go long due to inexperience and play styles). Or are stay at home parents who may not have the time to dedicate to dungeons.
If you ran your groups in the evenings after reset (8 pm EST currently), you’d likely have more success getting into a casual group or forming one yourself.
Simple, don’t be that guild leader who is too tight to buy the ex-pack and cause everyone trouble. Be it you do it for attention or cause you don’t have money to waste either one you end up being “That guy”.
Or maybe he’s that guy who has his priorities straight.
And he’s trying to get info to make a decision as to what to do concerning his guild, step down or have a coleader or no change.
@Warlock, would two LFG’s for dungeons be a good compromise? One random grouper that groups based on dungeon path chosen and language of server (EU side does have language specific servers). This is for the casuals who don’t want to play meta. The one we have now remains and is used for specific runs. The meta players and the teaching runs would be here. Or the groups needing something specific to get through part of a dungeon.
The problem is when they’ve researched ways to make the personal story replayable (probably for instances of “oops, I accidentally accepted my friend’s progression and jumped from one order to another order”) they’ve encountered bugs up to and including not being able to progress in the story anymore.
every person deserves to be allowed to play the base content regardless of purchase package. I.e. be able to beat the game/participate in stronghold/have acsess to new classes/able to do raids. etc. but the whole point of offering extras on collector’s editions. ultimate editions w/e you want to name them is that those players paid extra to get their packages. so they should be capable of using all of it. otherwise why offer the extra pack with the extra perks. it’s like saying when you pay for a hotel room that you deserve the grand suite when you paid a bargain price for your room. no. you are allowed to stay at the hotel. that is what your base package bought you. for extra they can upgrade your suite(to continue the metaphor) to a deluxe. and for their top price you can have the grand suite. regardless this thread became hyperfocused on one small detail when what it was originaly opened for was to discuss the idea of instanced raids. as this would meet anets self stated goals of “every player/class/build accepted to every party, everytime” and to simultaneously help them with a problem they acknowledged in the statement “when any one rune/build becomes the only acceptable build/rune that is unacceptable.”. but it has sense degenerated into bickering. when they get like this i wish you could simply close the thread you opened. so i will handle this like a tech support ticket.
Closed. Post service consumer survey:I have not recived helpful tech support but no longer wish to keep this ticket open.
I’m sorry, can you post a link to where it says you get preferential treatment to HoT standard purchasers by purchasing HoT Ultimate. I must have missed it.
The ONLY extras offered for Ultimate that are different from every other package was 4000 gems. That’s it. No preferential treatment. The Deluxe version also doesn’t mention any preferential treatment.
And others have mentioned how you and your wife can get a guild hall so you can use your guild decoration. Just because you choose to not do so doesn’t mean that ANet’s at fault.
That’s like paying for the grand suite at a hotel which comes with complimentary alcoholic beverages, among other things, but not being 21 and therefore can’t consume it. It’s not the hotel’s fault that you’re not 21 and can’t drink it and didn’t look into what was in the package before buying. You chose to buy before learning that guild halls would need more than 2 people to claim them. ANet didn’t force you to prepurchase when you did. You had free choice to wait and see what would be required to obtain guild halls. Yes, I sympathize with your situation, but I also realize that ANet can’t please everyone and they likely had their reasons for cutting off the scaling where they did. I’m sure they didn’t choose to cut off small player guilds out of spite or malice and instead it was a lesser of two evils. It may have been better tuning for large groups or for small groups. And small groups can band together to make large groups. Large groups would have to split apart to be able not make the content way too easy. ANet chose for things to be inclusive instead of exclusive. Where guilds didn’t have to worry as much about “will too many guild members show up”.
You also were free to wait until you heard more about raids before buying. Raids in other MMO’s were never something able to be done by a small group of people and was build initially as challenging group content. This would lead one to believe that it may take certain skills to beat the raid (and the skills could be from a variety of classes and builds).
When you prepurchase, you take on the risk that information given out later will turn you off of the game.
ty you have been one of the reasonable people on here. all i was trying to say is that we paid extra for some features otherwise why buy ultimate rather then deluxe. we deserve to use these things. regardless of how we play the game.
No one who bought HoT deserves any content more than others who bought HoT. No matter which version they bought.
The players who paid $50 are just as entitled to the content as you are, even though you paid $100.
another attempt to be calm an productive. I have posted my own lf leader and group dungeon posts. also lfg nonmeta. these posts are simply not responded to. also i do not use toxic to describe “doesn’t agree with me” i use it as a statement of “causing a derogatory effect on the overall gameplay experience” this is what that slang term means. a players behavior is toxic when it is rude or derogatory or causes unnecessary stress on the group/thread. on the casual guild idea. i am in a guild, i represent that guild because as in real life i represent my wife and my wife represents me. we started the twin flames guild in gw1 when we ran into this exact thing there and we carried it forward to gw2. there will be no guild (i know i’ve tried repeatedly) that will respond to “lf a guild that has no representation requirements/play requirements/playtime requirements/socializing” (if i could do a guild alliance i would, this is how we did things in gw1. that way we retained command of our characters while being able to choose or choose not to socialize with other guilds on a interaction by interaction basis.) and the ones that promise they do. don’t and quickly start in with “you should really be playing…at x time” “also please trigger that you represent us” and the ever popular “for this run could you switch to x class and run x build” I am not a casual player i often play several hours a day every day or at worst most every day. i did not post this previously as i feel it isn’t productive. if a player disagrees with me you are free to say so and an opinion is equally valuable no matter who it comes from. it is however not productive to say things like “this is ridiculous/absurd/antisocial” etc. they are adjectives meant to add an insulting and patronizing tone. you can say “i dissagree with what you said when you said x because imo it’s actually x or in my experience is x”
without using these nonproductive words. my opinion is not thread law. my opinion is not the only one that matters. in fact i opened this thread to gather other opinions on how this problem could be fixed.
There are no guilds that will actively seek out people who do not have a desire to be a true part of the guild. And by true part of the guild I mean contribute to the guild either by representing them or socializing with them.
First you have to convince us that there is a problem that needs fixing. And to me, there’s no huge rampant problem with the game. It’s just fine for those who wish to play the meta to play the meta with others who wish to play the meta. It’s also just fine for those who do not want to play the meta to play with others who do not want to play the meta. Both groups coexist in this game quite well, with both sides having their jerks that give the other side a bad name.
And there will be content that excludes players who will not do group content in an MMO. Just a fact of life there and it’s not a problem with the game.
Therefore, I can offer no solutions as I do not think there is a problem. I do not wish to fix what I do not feel is broken.
“No one has insulted you in this thread.”
“MMOs are not designed for outliers, and social misfits. Nor should they be. They’re meant to be group content. There is plenty of things for solos to do, but the further along you get the more the focus has to be on group content.”
This is just absurd. Throwback is not a bad thing. It isn’t Mario, and SAB is completely subjective. To me it was the single greatest thing to be added to the game, and it doesn’t even provide a single bit of progression in any aspect of the game. The jumping mushrooms in HoT are just how they felt like presenting the mechanic. There are any number of other things they could have done, and every one of them could be pointed to something else to say, oh that’s where it came from. It’s entirely your opinion and not worth much.
I agree. Games based around giving up large quantities of your time to advance in a computer generated world where you have no face to face interaction with anyone else, are so not designed for social misfits.
so i imagined these posts yes?
Please quote as the loss of the text around it removes context and context is everything. I can’t tell where your post starts and ends since you’re not even quoting.
as stated before when i cut out sections of another players post to show that i am quoting a partial quote and not their whole post it doesn’t post any text except the (/quote} etc coding i cut and paste because it is the only way to do a partial post quote.
Then that is, honestly, your fault for removing too much. I’ve cut out parts of quotes just fine without any issue. And I haven’t heard of anyone else having that issue at all so it’s very likely not a forum issue.

Your thinking of divinity 2 a totaly other game
http://www.divinityoriginalsin.com/
Andr if gw2 is a content-massive, massively online single-player-like rpg.
Then so is any mmorpg out there like wow, rift, swtor etc
I completed 100% map by myself i grouped for last personal story mission only. by myself i have assembled 17k+ achievement points. sense then i went through the horrible process of getting each dungeon path completed once. which reinforced the toxicity of group play. i expected the same from HoT soloable except for maybe the last “mission”. raids could have been handled better with a similar design to dc universe. that is their own icon at the top. click the raid you want and bang your in a group and doing the raid. i have no problem being in a group that allows me to play my way while taking the group leaders content based instructions silently. i do have a problem with being told how to play/what i must play. it is the same reason i am not in a large guild. i don’t want demands of when i play/how i play/and what to play. these are what i mean when i say “the less i deal with other players the more i enjoy my playtime” like this forum conversation thread that i came to out of years of frustration, set down the same social rules and level of respect that i wanted only to be told “play another game you….(insult deleted).”
No one has insulted you in this thread.
I feel like players are focusing too heavily on the tiny details of my original post and not the idea i wanted adressed here. the verbal harrasment section of the gw2 ToS is inadequate. i should not be forced to play zerk just because it’s “what everyone plays and what is expected” i am not what is expected both in person and in character and i deserve to be allowed to play how i want to play within the group content. being kicked from a group because you are not the glass cannon meta should not happen and should count as a form of harrasment that is causing players to be excluded from content. to quote another anet statement “When any one build/set of equipment becomes the only acceptable set/build, that is in and of itself unacceptable” which i agree with, but with no way to enforce this it becomes less then it should be. also i disagree that gw2 is “the friendliest community out there” world of tanks in it’s first year was an actual friendly community. how did they do it? it’s simple they had a “social zero tolerance policy” that is to say your first insultive or rude behavior got you a permaban. this scared everyone into playing nice for fear of a permaban on first unacceptable behavior. eventually they caved and removed the zero tolerance policy in favor of higher player pop and thus more money. with the removal of that policy the community tanked(minimum pun intended) and became just as toxic as any other online game. if the gw2 community stands for a higher quality of community, then prove it. every group i have ever been in has fallen apart/insulted one another and in general been a toxic experience and nothing is done. because players fear a false report ban with thoughts about “well was that really what the tos describes as a social violation?” or is not a direct insult but a kick based on not being meta. which is just as unappealing imo.
People have given you suggestions on how to lower your risk of running into the jerks. We can’t do anything but report and block when we see rude behavior. ANet will handle the jerks according to the policy.
Report the players you see being rude and then block them, you aren’t paid to listen to them being rude. As long as the interaction is at least gray area and not obviously not rude, you will not be banned for reporting the person. The punishment for false reports is there to stop the jerks from reporting people for the fun of it.
If you’re being kicked due to not being meta you are either experiencing one of the few meta jerks who try to troll casuals due to the casual jerks who join meta groups knowing they don’t meet the requirements, or you’ve accidentally joined a group that requires it due to a poorly worded LFG or an honest mistake on your end. A kick before the run starts isn’t rude in and of itself.
Some people want to play with others who play the meta. Why should they not be allowed to play how they want to play just because you don’t want to be forced to be the meta?
I would love this, but it will make it a little unfair to the other classes. Elementals can switch to 4 sets of moves with the press of the f keys so that would make it a total of 40 if there was a weapon swap. The engineers has kits which can make it to 20 moves. For this to be fair they would have to give the other classes at least 1 more set of weapons on swap. If that happens the new complaint would be elementals and engineers would need a 3rd set as well. Anet will never win in whatever they decide to do.
Engineer would be more tbh.
weapon swap: 10
6-0 slots for kits(5×5, med kit heal/mortor kit elite): 25
f1-f5: 5So Engineer would also be 40 skills, technically.
But as it stands, Engineer is only able to have 35 without weapon swap.. o.oBoth of you.
The OP said out of combat. Which means, not fighting, so no extra skills. (And you can’t just back up a couple of steps and be out of combat. Whatever you’re fighting has to be dead or no longer actively trying to reach you and you can’t have any conditions on you or your health not yet regenerated).
Out of combat only weapon swap would be a very dumb move and as such, we – at least I speak for myself for sure here, dunno about Magnus Godrik – would of never even consider it as a logical option.
Think about it;
1. No other class has an out of combat only weapon swap.
2. Revenant’s were supposed to be the Ele/Engi of the Heavy Armor type, but they got a fully functioning weapon swap – not something restricted to ooc.
3. It would be more of a hindrance than anything. It would be the biggest “kitten You!” Anet could give to those classes, and you would soon after see the Engineer and/or Elementalist section’s blow up with“Y ME NO WEAPON SWAP IN COMBAT ANET?!”
Type of posts. It’s a dumb idea, so we(or maybe just me) instead compared it to the only logical idea. If they ever got a weapon swap, it would be a fully functioning one.
Because Anet wouldn’t be THAT dumb.
Because its dumb to lock it to ooc.Personally, because they did it to Revenant, I think they should allow the other two access to a second, fully functioning weapon slot for weapon swaps. It’s really dumb how it is right now. Two classes out of 9 can only use one weapon, and the new one was supposed to be that third, but people b*tched and complained and Anet catered.
-.-’
I’d be fine with letting the other classes having an out of combat weapon set swap. Would be useful in raids for changing up builds. Especially if the weapon sets you swap between would keep the weapons out of the inventory.
As someone who mains an Elementalist, they should not allow for in combat weapon swaps for Elementalists (I haven’t played Engineer so can’t say how unfair or not that would be). It would be giving Ele’s 20 MORE skills to swap between without much cooldown.
1. Revenant. I personally liked the Revenant. At least for the little time I played. I didn’t want to spoil HoT too much. I don’t think the utility skills being locked based on legend hurts their playability. It does hurt the ability to have something held back when in PvP and WvW when going up against other players. This is more likely a case of utility skill # balance vs diversity. Revenants would have more than other classes if they had the ability to change up the line up. Like Elementalists and Engineers don’t have weapon swap capabilities. You see half of an ele’s or engi’s line up the moment you see their weapon. And you don’t even need to see the weapon for underwater combat for ele’s as ele’s only get one option.
So while you see it not balanced in terms of build diversity. It can also be viewed as balanced in terms of number of utility/elite skills.
2. Have you tried to find a casual guild? I’d imagine there are more social oriented guilds that aren’t so demanding on build, gear, and skill level. Raids won’t have their own tool because ANet doesn’t want raids to be PUGable unless your group can achieve higher than average organization for a PUG. There will still likely be an LFG portion for raids, even if it isn’t official. 1 in the squad, 1 in the LFG and they ferry people into the squad until it’s full.
I fully understand the desire to play alone in an MMO. I’m one of those oddballs myself and understand that I’m a minority. I do realize that a vast majority of the content that they’ve released since launch has been soloable and people have been asking for challenging group content for end game. Hence raids and given the popularity of the maps Silverwastes and Dry Top, the open world maps needing group participation isn’t surprising.
3. Certain things appeal to different people. What you like others don’t and vice versa. This is likely just a case of that and ANet can’t please everyone. Time will tell which group is in the majority.
ANet can’t prevent a meta from forming or remove it once it’s formed. None of the content released so far requires certain gear stats or higher than exotic in gear (open world areas definitely possible in rares). And only fractals requires a specific tier level and you can get pretty high with only minimal gear. There are groups that form that do not require meta gear or great skills. If you don’t see one when you go to enter a dungeon and want to do one, make one yourself and label it any welcome, casual run, or something along those lines.
If you are in NA and want to do something that requires 3 people once HoT launches, send me a message in game. If I’m online and not in the middle of something, I’ll join up and we can just play alone together.
As to this:
“4. not dealing with rude behavoir.(which i have dealt with in every group i have played in in gw2)”
I’m sorry that’s happened to you, I promise I won’t be rude when I group with you (I’m never rude to anyone who isn’t playing meta or well, as I don’t always do the former and I’m quite often not playing well myself). As to rude people in general, they’re going to be in every online game you play. No way around it, unfortunately.
Edit to add: You can send me a message in game if you need an extra body to add to the DPS even before HoT launches if you’re NA.
You can learn the mechanics only playing 1-2 hours at a time. It will just take you and your group longer to do so than a group playing 5-7 hours at a time.
The 1-2 hour max groups may want to wait until guides are posted for the raids or videos to see basic strategies, if they don’t wish to fail multiple days in a row.
The raid is not meant to be PUGed so the fact that the PUG group would struggle at a certain boss is not a problem.
From what I’ve heard there are already raid wings. How long each wing takes is unknown.
People were however getting to the final boss before getting booted in feedback. No one’s posted that they completed that I saw.
BWE3 started around October 2nd at 2:47 pm Eastern based on Gaile’s post. By 4:25 pm that day, they had taken raids down for the first time. So in under 2 hours players were at the final boss. So it might be entirely doable for players with short play time to do a wing a day.
This really needs to be looked into ASAP. Would like to experience the canopy and such but, you can’t without unlocking some masteries. Which of course needs points to do!
You need one point to get up there (Basic Gliding) and two to fully explore it (Updraft OR bouncy mushrooms). You have access to two points.
But yes, it should be reported and looked at.
I’m trying to explore higher than that….
And maybe they don’t want you to explore higher than that in this beta. Betas aren’t for our pleasure, they are for ANet’s pleasure so that they can find bugs that they missed due to not hitting the right set of conditions to trigger them, so they can see how players feel about certain aspects of the game.
I’ve seen herds of Charr players! Especially among rper groups. Fact is they also have other races they play. On my server I’ve ran many times with a woman commander that mains a Charr. I think you might want to look around a little more hun. They are out there lol. /salute.
Statistics don’t lie ‘hun’.
http://guildwars2viz.com/ (As posted in the original post)
There is twice as many humans as there are charrsI can’t argue with that /hatsoff.
But I kid you not, I’m always running into Charr players. Those that make them must really be playing them often or I happen to be on a server that embraced the Charr more than usual?
The numbers listed are %.
10% of 100,000 is 10,000. Which is still a relatively large number. So if there are a huge number of characters, you could still see a large number of Charr and they still be a minority in what race people choose.
Also who knows if that data is updated or if it’s 3 years old. The reddit post has posts from 3 years ago. Or about 2 months after launch. If the data hasn’t been updated, humans still likely have the majority, but who knows how much of a majority or what order the other races are in.
The main problem of a similar fix is that when you’re OOC in a sPvP Tournament match you will be allowed to swap weapon.
Is like if a class that is not a engi ro a ele will be able to go OOC and change all it’s defensive weapons with dps weapons to readapt to the current tournament. What if a cele ele will be able during a tournament to change from melee D/D to Staff to be able to make more AoE damage/support in the mid why the team don’t need it as a melee in the fight?
That will change completly the situation.Engis and eles (expecially eles) can obtain a incredible amount of skills just swapping attunement or equipping a kit.
Eles can’t change between melee or range, but in range have a large amount of AoE to fight also in melee and in melee have a large amount of movement and fedensive skills to fight also against ranged enemies.
Engis can simply use they’re ranged weapons, that work very well also in melee (expecially the rifle with all it’s bleed/CC that work better in close range than in long range) and if they need a melee or a defence swap to other kits, expecially if they need ranged AoE they can swap to granade or melee AoE to mines. And what’s all that problem about open for a moment the inventary, double-click on the weapon and equip it? You take more or less 3 seconds to do that!
I really think that there’s no need or a fix like a OOC weapon swap for eles and engis and that will only make troubles to fix it between pve/www and sPvP.
You do realize that they can already do this, right? By opening the hero panel and swapping. What’s so horrible about a QOL change?
And I’d be open to allowing other classes to swap out of combat as well to another set of weapons. So warriors can switch from GS/sword/axe to LB/mace/mace.
I know what the OP said. Ele’s are F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C right now, and have zero need for a weapon swap anywhere. You have twenty skills on a weapon.
TWENTY.
O-U-T O-F C-O-M-B-A-T
Did you miss that part of the original post? They aren’t asking for in combat weapon swapping. Just out of combat weapon swapping. Asking for a QOL change, nothing more, nothing less.

Two-three lines in and I recognized the source XD
Good song and at least those lines from it are appropriate to the thread.
Most of you are not getting the point. We all know all beta progress gets lost (ie. masteries) when HoT launches.
The point is, how are you going to test max level masteries if we all just got reset? There’s not that much exp to get in beta Verdant Brink and there will be much less people doing the PvE there since they’ve already done it twice. Getting level 5 gliding was impressive even with a good map zerg afoot.
The solution is to give us all a kitten ton of mastery exp or just start us at 5/6 or even 6/6.
We didn’t get to beta test max level characters in GW2’s beta. I believe they hard capped the level you could get to in the beta as well as restricted maps you could visit.
So I wouldn’t hold your breath on being given X amount of mastery xp.
Uta not 5000 gems it’s 4000 gems and they stated that ultamite won’t be offered after game release. The only difference between deluxe n ultamite is the 4000 gems so it pretty much 50 bucks of gems for 25 bucks.
Recap ultimate = deluxe +4000gems a
It’s only a sale on gems if you aren’t interested in getting the items in the Deluxe.
I’d imagine the number of members an actual guild has averages more than 3-5 members.
Actual guilds for this are not personal bank guilds or guilds that are glorified LFG’s for dungeons where members only rep the guild when they are looking to do a dungeon and don’t socialize or anything beyond with the 4 members that join them for the dungeon and then only during that dungeon.
It could have been they could either scale it properly for 1-2 person guilds or scale it properly for 500 people guilds. Since small guilds can band together to form larger guilds temporarily to meet the needs, they felt that was a better solution than to have larger guilds have to exclude players in order to not make the mission to easy. They could have been between a rock and a hard place where neither choice was going to please everyone, so they chose the lesser of two evils.
JediYoda: IF there were other ways to earn favor that did allow for 1-2 player guilds to meet the requirements, would you have an issue, or at least as huge of an issue, with missions not supporting 1-2 player guilds?
Just one more thing to add.
I love how ALL of you guys are speaking on behalf of ANet, it’s giving the devs a break from having to say anything…
In all seriousness, we don’t know what they want, how they view this idea or if they have even considered this. Until a dev responds and says what they have to say all arguments are pointless. The only thing you can say is I support this idea, I don’t support this idea, or I would support something like this idea. Not, “Anet doesn’t want this model.” That isn’t for you to decide for them.
We can infer from ANet’s past statements what they will think of this proposal.
- They’ve bundled HoT and the core game together – new players won’t be stuck in the core game area if they can’t afford both the expansion pack and the base game.
- They’ve stated in posts asking for hard mode maps that they do not want to split the player base
- They’ve made it even easier for casual players to get ascended gear than it was when they first launched and made it easier for casual players to switch stats on their armor. – This allows even casuals to get enough ascended and AR to do high level fractals if they choose to do so.
And none of my inferences were stated as fact.
Although i do not mind ppl selling dungeons per se (and would advocate against a ban), i really hate the fact that i cant filter the lfg to exclude them, as im not interested in buying any paths. It is annoying that they share the same space with “legitimate” parties.
The only problem with that is anything that would do that would give some players the assumption that ANet would reimburse them if they got scammed and that ANet fully supports dungeon selling. ANet neither supports nor prohibits dungeon selling. They do prohibit scamming, so while if you have proof that a scam took place, they won’t replace your gold but they will punish the scammer.
It depends on whether the number of people who would buy the core game for $10 is more then 5 times the number who would buy the expansion only if they could not get the core game for $10.
This is why Anet is doing everything in their power to make it look like HoT is the only option.
There is an option for $16 which is currently available at a legit online retailer, so its not impossible to get the core game cheaply if you look around.
Why would ANet want to split the player base? When this model of buy the latest EP and get everything is counter to splitting the player base.
ANet could have deactivated all base game only codes and made it so players couldn’t buy just the core game. But they didn’t. But they also shouldn’t advertise that they’re out there. That’s just bad business when you’re gearing up to sell an expansion pack. It’s telling the player base that ANet doesn’t think the expansion pack is worth $50.
The game hasn’t really gone F2P though. I still have to pay to get HoT. If it was F2P, I wouldn’t have had to pay. All ANet’s added is an unlimited free trial of the base game.
It’s hardly ‘unlimited’. In fact i’d say it’s less an unlimited trial and more a limited full game. I’m not suggesting they get access to any content they can’t already play; just that they have their restrictions lifted (restrictions which are only in place in the first place to curb gold sellers – by buying gems, and thus contributing to ANets profit, they are in essence proving that’s not their intent)
And most outfits are 800 gems. Cheapest gem package gives 1600 gems I believe. That’s 2 outfits. One outfit likely takes several HOURS to make. Remember they have to make the outfit up to 10 times. Once for each race and once for each gender. 8 times if you consider that most outfits have Asura and Charr looking the same no matter the gender. It’s why the wedding dress was more than the typical outfit as they did make unique outfits for each race and each gender. Minimum wage in the US is $7.25. 1 person buying gems solely to buy an outfit will not make the outfit make a profit. It would take several players buying gems to do so.
But in general, this can only increase profit. Say X% of people buy gems now, and Y% would buy if they knew their f2p restrictions would be lifted. X + Y cannot be less than X alone, and it has cost ANet nothing.
Whether or not I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of it has absolutely no bearing on what I consider a fair price for the base game without limitations. I do not consider 50% of a the cheapest gem package to be a fair price to remove the restrictions.
Alright, so what DO you consider a fair price? because prior to HoT being made available for prepurchase, i believe it had fallen to $10, which is the smallest amount of gems you can buy. Now, of course, you can’t buy the base game at all, and HoT comes bundled with it.
Anyone who ‘unlocks’ their F2P edition this way is still gonna have to pay full price for HoT. Some definitely will, some definitely won’t, but either way, the company that runs the game winds up with more money than they would have had otherwise, and i just can’t see that being a bad thing.
$50 and pay for HoT or whatever expansion pack is out at that point. There is no gem price for it. Or I want the ability to pay for future expansion packs with gems obtained through any method including gold to gem conversion and get to keep the gems in the process. And seeing as how that won’t happen, no price is a fair price.
Not to mention I do not see ANet doing this. ANet does not want the player base split more than absolutely required. They don’t want to force players to buy the expansion pack or not be able to play so there will always be players who continue to play but do not buy any future expansion pack. But the majority of active players will be the ones who have purchased the expansion packs. Therefore, it does not make any sense whatsoever to sell both the base game and the expansion pack when they give away the base game with the expansion pack. Because that would split the player base more than absolutely required.
I feel like people scrolled past it without reading or joined the thread after i’d posted it.
I had a thought that it would be cool if any P4F account got an automatic upgrade to the full (base) game if they bought gems. In that the gemstore items don’t cost Anet any money, it can only give them added revenue, and could incentivise the buying of gems by the new players.
It really would address a lot of complaints.
So they get more for their gems than I did? My gem purchase went towards a couple bank slots and maybe a bag slot for my main. Someone else could get a couple bank slots and maybe a bag slot AND get the base game?
It’s less that they get more value so much as their account is recognised as ‘valid’.
If you must think of it that way, though, they’re getting something you already have, and which you have presumably had for some time. Have you gotten your money’s worth in that time? this is mostly just the argument against going f2p in general.Gem store items DO cost ANet money. Bank slots and bag slots not that much. But it costs money to create outfits. The time spent on designing and meshing and creating the textures. The mini’s cost money. The finishers cost money.
Just because you can’t go to the local Walmart and pick up “Wedding Dress outfit” doesn’t mean that it didn’t cost ANet money to create the Wedding Dress outfit.
You’re right. I hadn’t thought of the development cost that goes into going into these items. However, that’s only an upfront cost – There’s no cost associated with manufacturing each individual instance, only the template from which the item is created.
If even one player buys gems for the purpose of lifting their p4f restrictions, ANet will have profited.
The game hasn’t really gone F2P though. I still have to pay to get HoT. If it was F2P, I wouldn’t have had to pay. All ANet’s added is an unlimited free trial of the base game.
The cheapest gem package is $10. The cheapest ANet’s sold the game for is $10. They get $20 value for $10. That means they get more for their money than anyone who bought the base game. When ANet does not want to create more base game only players. They want to create players who have everything. Because that doesn’t split the player base.
Whether or not I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of it has absolutely no bearing on what I consider a fair price for the base game without limitations. I do not consider 50% of a the cheapest gem package to be a fair price to remove the restrictions.

with coming raids I hope we can get rid of agony resistance in fractals, I cant have a set for fractals and one for raid ( maybe even 2 for Raid)
I highly doubt they’ll be removing Agony Resistance requirements for Fractals.

Are we talking about Agony Resistance or what’s the big deal about Ascended Gear? I don’t get it. If you tell me 90 main stat points make a real difference then I wonder what’s going on with the design.
Well, 90 may not be a lot. But what about 900 when multiply that across the full group needed for raids? 900 may be a noticeable difference.
