A thread started recently in the warrior forums about this here and figured it deserved to be placed in the suggestions section of the forums as well:

But pretty much the idea is that if a stealthed opponents attempts to hit me and I successfully block it, it should count as it normally would if it landed on me and kick that person out of stealth and put the revealed debuff. Not entirely sure why this isn’t in place already.

Same. I can maybe see the no reveal on evade no giving away their stealth, but a block’s a block. It’s a physical landing of a move and should auto reveal the person in stealth. Kinda dumb that it doesn’t already.

Changing the skill bar is a bit scary to those of us who already use LB. However, getting rid of hunter’s shot but keeping the pet swiftness somewhere would be nice. Point blank shot and barrage MUST stay (though we should be able to move while barraging). Biggest thing that needs fixing is the player’s ability to side step arrows.

Combine the effects of point blank shot and hunter’s shot. Personally I love hunter’s shot for the 10 stacks of vulnerability it gives. Maybe have it so that if you hit an enemy with point blank shot at anything less than 300m you put the stacks of vulnerability or something.

1) Arrows pierce by default and hit for 1500 range (neither should be traited)
2) Auto attack (1) adds stacks of vulnerability
4) Remove the charge up time from point black shot
7) Most important, fix the obstructed bug

I vote for all these changes 110%. It would appease players who want to be archer types, and give them some nice opening dps / awesome tactical options in large fights in wvw.

Account bound endless harvesting tools

So as a player who has multiple lvl 80’s, I own 1 of each of the endless harvesting items that have come out, and I was thinking making them account bound vs soulbound would be so much more preferable for players like myself who rotate between characters often. Just a quality of life suggestion.

Making some utility skills give the revealed debuff is the best way to handle all this. As some people mentioned, the example of ranger traps would be perfect for that role. Other classes could have some utilities that can cause the revealed status as well. The current system of “swing wildly and see if your autoattack chain continues” isn’t a counter, nor is blindy throwing AoEs on the floor.

Also I feel like it should be mentioned that this isn’t only geared towards thieves, but anyone who has access to stealth (ranger trait, mesmer traits, runes of infiltration, etc).

I actually agree with the OP – I think the Charr or alright but the Norn are simply too big. They should be roughly 25-50% larger than humans at most, not more than double their size, and there should be some overlap – the smallest norn should be smaller than the biggest humans.

No way, I love having my max height Norn Warrior tower over everyone else. Especially with a Vigil Helmet and his gear it gives him an air of leadership. Plus in wvw I use my character’s height to act as a body shield for my allies if they’re trying to get targeted (easier to misclick on my character than the little Sylvari Thief or Asura Elementalist running under my feet).

To get on topic with OP’s statement, I think the males look the way they do because there’s that legend (rumor, w/e) that Norns are descendants of the Kodan, so their body shape seems representative of bears. Just a thought. shrug

I have the distinct feeling that they are trying a lot of different things and seeing how people will respond. The different approaches to RNG chests and dungeons, for example.

I feel the same way. It definitely seems that they’re trying out different mini-game ideas as well as dungeon concepts (F&F dungeon and Sky Pirates were awesome btw.) I kind of wonder if all the living story story stuff is all just live testing for possible expansion content. That’s what it really feels like.

I keep a hammer and scepter / torch on me at all times, whether pvp or pve. Both weapon sets offer great movement CC with immobilizes (which isn’t affected by stability, and with binding jeopardy each immobilize puts 5 stacks of vulnerability on a target), and ring of warding is great to use in conjunction with judge’s intervention to box in a group of players in wvw skirmishes, making them panic and use their escapes / stability skills early so they’re easier targets for the rest of your group / server to kill. I have seen a lot of Guardians using greatsword and sword/focus recently to maximize the trait ‘blind exposure’ under the radiance line which puts stacks of vulnerability whenever you blind your target(s).

So there are options for you both in choosing pure melee weapon sets or having melee and ranged. =)

beginner's question re: weapon swapping

It is always in your best interests to weapon swap if you can setup good combos with your weapon combos. A quick example would be something like this:

open with scepter & focus. Immobilize with scepter #3, throw down smite and ray of judgement, pop focus #5, then switch to your melee set (hammer, greatsword, w/e), then whack away at the enemy.

I think he’s mad because the animation isn’t what he expected of it…..or something. I dunno, he mentioned how the move isn’t like some anime he likes or something. Renewed Focus is an amazing elite skill on a low cooldown. Wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world (maybe worthwhile Norn beast morphs….that would be pretty sweet)

I have to admit, it feels good having open field fights that fluctuate. This should be a fun week indeed! Also I’m looking forward to getting into more roaming 1v1 encounters, especially after an extended dueling session I had with a condition d/p thief from SoS. kitten that was a fun fight.

torch 4 seems bugged. it seems that it interrupts itself somehow and goes on the interrupt cd, and other times it goes on the full cd but no burning has been applied and there is no torch throwing animation

That could be happening if you try to use it while your back is to your target. A lot of warrior moves do that, and it’s a great way to throw off any move set combo you were building up.

I’ve been getting tons more ‘obstructed’ problems recently with axe and longbow when there’s nothing that would obstruct the projectiles.

Sword is bugged to all hell on Asura Characters, cannot evade and cannot dodge while using it, you are totally locked into combat and it has not been fixed in a year since opening..
Greatsword…i’d play a Warrior or Guardian if i wanted to use a greatsword not a Ranger because they can actually survive melee toe to toe..

Axe is terrible just shockingly bad..

Honestly at this time my build is Sword/Dagger – Shortbow, the last patch just made my build useless and i’m not going to fix Anets mistakes for them and waste more money on another build for my main.. I’ll just not play it far simpler..

You can turn off auto attack in the 1h sword chain so it doesn’t lock you in place. That’s a common theme with all races playing rangers, not just asuras. As for greatsword / standing toe-to-toe I do just that against warriors and guardians all day. Hell, I have 2 videos (albeit my editing skills still aren’t very good) that show it can be done; the evade on the 3rd autoattack occurs more often than you think, and with a block skill and an interrupt skill on top of the evade greatsword is an amazing utility powerhouse.

Axe/axe is an awesome combo, especially with winter’s bite and the new pull effect on path of scars you can REALLY screw someone’s endurance regen over which makes them easier targets to kill. Seems like you’re being stubborn about change and dismissing everything without having really trying out other options.

That reminds me of a story.

I got into a PuG that didn’t want ‘another’ ranger since we were so useless. It was the Fire and Ice dungeon. We got there, and the entire group wiped on those last two bosses.

Everyone, but me that is.

And I soloed them.

The first one when down and the entire party rezzed. And a minute later, the party died again. Yes, you guess it. I soloed him too and got everyone the chest and achievement.

The point isn’t to brag. The point is to tell you that sometimes it’s up to you to prove the group wrong. Yeah, it’s an uphill battle, especially with recent changes, but if that group or guild was that ignorant, they did you the favor of self-identifying their stupidity.

Consider it a blessing in disguise.

+1 for awesome story. Anyone who won’t take you because of your class is most likely the type of player who rage quits if they down 1-2 times anyway. Screw those guys.

Aye but it was ‘meant’ to have been patched, and I still regularly shoot right past the target and get a ‘Miss’ even Savage Leap is beginning to do it, completely overshooting the target, even worse on uneven terrain.

I’ve noticed savage leap for me (as a max height norn) can get whacky with smaller characters at times. Like my character’s animation will rotate 180 degrees sometimes and miss because of hit box / model orientation stuff. Rush can be the same way too, but both skills don’t tend to bug up too often

Warriors better than ever in WvW. Burst CDR, cleansing Ire. Smashing hammer F1 after every 8 seconds doing up to 4k damage + 2s stun while cleansing condis and shout healing.

I agree with the weapons part as well. Some weapon skills just need to be modified and either have a unique utility effect and/or be a reliable source of DPS.

Axe as a whole have pretty worthless skills that really do not do the warriors any justice.

As far as mainhands go, Longbow and Sword feel like the most complete weapons with hammer not being too far behind. Greatsword I feel could use a little tweaking (not much) but weapons like maces and axes need to be revised and looked at by the developers as well as 1 skill here and there on other weapons.

This game has become very AoE centric that possibly they should look at some weapon skills doing decent and reliable AoE damage while having some utility. Skills like Combustive Shot and Earthshaker should be taken as a model for having good DPS and utility, and something of that effective should replace certain weapon skills.

I will say axe offhand is pretty meh, but axe mainhand is very nice. I haven’t seen much of a dps loss since the axe chain change, and the 900 range cripple on axe #3 plus eviscerate are awesome chasing / finishing moves. Axe #2 I love for the vulnerability stacks it provides. Damage on it is kind of weak, but using on my mark + axe #2 will yield me 14 stacks on vulnerability on my target, which means 14% increased damage they’re taking.

As for mace I’d say my only complaint is that I have to be super careful when activating mace #2’s counterattack. If I press the button again while the skill is channeling my character will prematurely drop the block stance, which can really mess me up at times. Otherwise mace mainhand and mace offhand are really pretty balanced and most of their moves aren’t horribly telegraphed (skull crack F1 has the fastest attack animation of all the F1 skills, and I can turn it into a 4 sec stun which is crazy good!)

You mean the thief right? Yeah his HP was <50% the entire video. Also just wanted to point out that those warriors only dodge rolled to get closer to the thief when he would shadow step rather than, you know, dodging his attacks. Bads gonna bad.

That’s what I’ve always wanted Merciful Intervention to be. ( or at least a “pull downed ally to your location” )

I would kill to have merciful intervention have that effect. Not only for utility purposes, but for trolling my friends purposes as well lol (pull ally before he downs an enemy for lolz)

While I agree that the warrior is currently a much better ranged option, what weapon does the guardian have to hit at 1200 range? I would have never considered them a better ranged option.

Scepter, torch #4, focus #4, and iirc staff #2 are all 1200 range.

Yeah……that didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me either lmao. Damage improvement on the other skills = improved shortbow damage. I know pressing 2, 3, 4, and 5 can be difficult but it can be done! Just hang in there and get up that finger strength to press them buttons!

What i find funny is Aragorn, what the term Ranger means has zero to do with Guildwars 2 the last patch and why a ranged profession is worse than non ranged professions that also use bows…

Why the last patch wasn’t just for sPvP tells me the balance team wouldn’t know what balance was even if it came up and hit them in the face..

If you want to get bring LoTR into this Aragorn mixed up melee and ranged a lot, but tended to do more melee combat once real fighting started. Legolas is more of the bow users type of character as he fought 80% of the time with his bow, but he also switched to melee when situations demanded it. In otherwords all weapons have a specific time/place to be used. It’s not difficult to hit the tilda (~) key and melee a bit when someone closes the distance if you can’t keep them at ranged. Besides, both swords (sword / greatsword) have gap closing / opening moves attached with them, so if nothing else you can swap to them to gain some distance before plugging away with your bow again.

I sure didn’t. Stop complaining that warriors don’t have sustain. I’ve said it before: if you want survivability / sustain you need to make your traits and gear reflect that want.

That’s true but investing in builds that utilizes those is mostly only viable in PvE, except for banners which can work for either. If you’re looking at WvW/PvP, it’s a completely different story.

This is a personal preference, but I love shout warrior in pvp. Not only do you provide group benefits during an engagement (FGJ, SIO), but the more offensive shouts have great utility in pvp fights (Fear Me will ruin anyone’s day if you’re close, and my personal favorite OMM turns people into time bombs with the 10% vuln if your group focuses them.) Couple it with quick 1.5k heals and soldier runes so that they all remove conditions and that’s a lot of sustain, buffs, and overall dps boosts not just for you but everyone around you.

I am on the same boat. I love my ranger, and have been using greatsword / axe/axe (kitten yeah pull on path of scars!!) as my primary weapon sets since I made him. The only complaint I had with him is condition cleansing, but I’m currently working out a trait / rune setup that doesn’t stray too far from my playstyle, but allows for conditions to fall off a tad faster passively.

I am one of those people that believe shortbow’s range shouldn’t have been the same as longbow’s. For those claiming they can’t chase / kill anyone any more because of the change: swap to sword or greatsword, use the movement skills on those, swap back to shortbow and pew pew away. Seriously, it’s not that difficult. Been doing it with my gs / axe/axe combo and have never had a problem (except against sneaky thieves.)

Edit: This is all from a roaming / small group encounter focus in wvw. Spvp I haven’t messed with much aside from ‘anything goes’ hotjoins

I’m super pumped at being able to cure poison, burning, and bleed stacks on burst more than anything. Yes blind could possibly counter the move, but with soldier runes and all shouts blind never stays on long for me to miss my burst skill lol. Condition removal for dddaaayyyyssss

Torch tactics in WvW

My favorite combo for torch is hit them with scepter’s immobilize, followed immediately by smite then cleansing flame. While cleansing flame is channeling I queue up torch #4, then as soon as it’s done I press #4 again to throw the fireball. Tons of incoming damage from multiple skills while they’re stuck in 1 spot, and even if they blink / condition cure out of the smite / cleansing flames combo, torch #4’s second activation almost always pegs them for huge amounts of damage (I’ve seen it crit for 6-8k)

Does noone that’s complaining about the 900 shortbow range swap weapons? If you’re truly having trouble closing the distance, switch to a weapon backup set that gives you mobility via swoop on the greatsword or sword #2’s combo. I’ve been using GS / axe&axe and have never had trouble keeping someone within the 900 range aside from a good thief / mesmer juke.

Granted spirits may not be where people want them to be, but if one of them becomes a stun breaker as one of the ‘leaked patch notes’ claims I may give them a whirl for funsies.

I agree with your post, I just recently started to play my 80 theif in WvW because I finally broke my bank to gear it out in (mostly) the correct gear. (I still lack like ~10% crit damage)

I was expecting to just roll face with my backstabbing self, given all of the complainers about thieves in the forums/game. And I do alright, but most of the time, I’m getting 4100-4500 on my backstab crits. This is obviously a lot less than the “OMG backstab hit me for 9k” posts.

Also, CnD is hard to land several times in a row. (Which is required for infiltrating roaming groups or zergs.) But that’s the fun part of the build!

I have hit a light armor upleveled necro for 8k once. Maybe everybody from Yaks Bend and Crystal Desert is running around with max toughness…

Well that’s why the typical response from thief mains is roll one yourself and try to do it. People don’t complain when I whip out an 11k eviscerate on my 20k hp 2.8k armor warrior every 8 seconds, but when i whip out a 6k backstab on my thief with 4/6 ascended trinkets everyone freaks out.

It’s mostly because people can’t see said backstab coming (which is kinda the whole point), no matter the damage output. At least with warriors you can see a unique leaping animation flying towards you. My only qualm with stealth is that even with dropping aoe’s on the floor there’s no indication at all that the person took damage. Fights against thieves / mesmers can be exciting and fun, but the tedious guesswork of spamming 1 to see if the chain continues, or throwing down aoes where they ‘might go’ gets real old real quick. Not saying it needs to be nerfed or anything, but there’s got to be a better way of tracking an invis player rather than just flailing weapons in all directions.

I love this… so now thieves not only go glass cannon or condition P/P, w/ stealth, they get to apply a condition on you, where if you move, you’re going to be damaged….

So now, we have to literally EAT IT. Regardless of what we do.

I can just see it now… leap of faith, bulls charge, ranger leaps… all like getting bursted down by a quickness/WW combo against someone who has retal on.

I’m so kittening tired of anet’s extremely POOR balancing ability..

This new conditon need to go to Necro’s and Guardians…. the 2 least mobile classes of them all…. NOT the 2 most mobile / stealth based classes.

I will say that torment makes sense on mesmer only because the class is all about kittening with someone’s mind and all that, but to give it to thieves as well is a tad silly.

The problem is hybrid, we didn’t lose our ability to deal damage. It just takes more to get the same effect we have before, and we lose things like Forceful Greatsword which lowers our overall mobility greatly.

We did lose a lot of damage. If you can’t see that then please reread the patch notes. We lost mobility as well, so we lost the ability to deal our damage better.

Please look at the big picture.

You can still deal tons of damage without those traits. Hell, I’ve dropped 9k eviserates and I don’t use berserker’s power or heightened focus. If anything you’re not seeing the big picture in that by moving those 2 traits to grandmaster slots just by going the full 30 into either one (or both) will award you +300 power, and/or +30% critical damage & +3% to burst skill damage that will stack on top of any additional damage percentages you have already. These are still all unofficial notes, so while speculation is all fine and dandy, jumping to supposed concrete conclusions based on what-if’s and maybe’s is pointless.

A 12 second CD 3-4k heal is horrible, because of its cast time… And its horrendous animation. I’m not even going to say anything else because you will just report me.

Actually my first main character was my Warrior, followed by my Guardian, and recently my Ranger. I’ve put up only a few videos of my ranger alt because once I got him to 80 I started recording videos around the same time. Also look at my account name and my warrior’s name in my signiture if you don’t believe me. Don’t assume kid, it makes you look stupid.

Is that all you have to say, because that does not matter. My first character was a thief however that does not mean its my most played character, it just means I know how to deal and fight thieves better.

Also it does not discuss the topic at hand at all, it only boosts your ego, something a kid would do.

It feels like your just trying to bury your mistakes.

I guess you weren’t paying attention when I said my 1st and primarily main character is my warrior, but that’s cool. You are correct though in that I forgot to contribute to the actual thread at hand, so there’s that.

Moving away from our healing signet debate since I get the feeling we’ll be going in circles about it until that actual patch hits, warrior dps isn’t going to suffer a substantial loss as you and a few others are saying. Yeah berserker’s power is getting bumped to grandmaster, but it is also getting increased percentages as well (going from 3/7/12 —> 5/10/15.) This also allows you to gain access to having increased damage when endurance is not full via stick and move minor trait. Even if that damage increased is <5% it’s all percentages that will build up your damage output.

As for conditions / being kited to death: soldier’s runes (for shouts), runes of hoelbrak (-20% condition duration), Lyssa runes (lose all conditions and gain all boons on using elites), Melandru runes (-15% condition duration, -15% stun duration), sigil of generosity (60% chance to give 1 condition to an enemy), and sigil of purity (60% chance to just remove a condition) are just some of the ways that you can shed conditions without even having a specific condition cleanse utility in your hotbar or using any condition counter traits. If you choose not to use any of these or the condition cleanse stuff available to warriors then don’t cry when you get bogged down with conditions. If they were that much of a problem you’d adapt your build to be able to counter it. Not to mention with mending on a 20 sec cooldown soon not only can you sustain yourself with a moderate heal, but you shave off 2 conditions right off the bat.

If you can’t adapt your build to optimize it for not only how you want to play, but anticipating how an enemy player may use conditions in their favor against your build then you’re destined to fail.
