So said the RANGER player…

A 12 second CD 3-4k heal is horrible, because of its cast time… And its horrendous animation. I’m not even going to say anything else because you will just report me.

Actually my first main character was my Warrior, followed by my Guardian, and recently my Ranger. I’ve put up only a few videos of my ranger alt because once I got him to 80 I started recording videos around the same time. Also look at my account name and my warrior’s name in my signiture if you don’t believe me.

Master Trait “Glacial Heart” has now been completely revamped to: Critical hits with a hammer have a 100% chance to chill your target for 5 seconds. This effect can only occur once every 30 seconds rofl from kitten cd to 30s? who will use trait what chill for 5s and can be remove in 1-2s?

I’m going to be using this trait all the time. If you stuck a superior sigil of hydromancy or ice I’m positive the duration on chill would stack, making it even stronger. Sure it can get cleansed, but if I can hamper someone’s endurance regen and movement speed, even if for a second, it’ll make a huge difference.

I can definitely see healing signet being used as a means of a consistent burst heal when traited. .

Healing signet is about on par with thieves Signet of Malice..

No, Signet of Malice is better in every single way.

Healing Signet is a horrible active healing ability. The reason is it has the longest cool-down of any heal in the game with a ridiculous animation anyone can see for miles. It was meant to have a long cool-down (30-40 seconds.) to be used in case of an emergency and a powerful passive heal. Currently it heals for about 5 times less then Signet of Malice, which is getting a 33% healing increase in its passive

I won’t say anything bad if your new to the warrior class, so I will refrain from saying anything bad, I just want you to learn why its bad. Just look at the picture below


Mending should of been brought down to a 15 second healing ability.

Healing Surge should have its Stage Requirement Removed, and heal for a lot plus give 30 adrenaline. With a 20 second cool-down.

Healing Signet should of had its cool-down increased to say 30 seconds, with an 8k heal and a 450min-600max passive heal with a 0.2*Healing Modifier.

So… when your interrupted, based on the leaks… you now not only not get healed, you take BACKSTAB DAMAGE!

Oh Daecollo, your rants and bad ideas will never cease. Stay classy bro. You keep thinking a 12 sec specced 3-4k heal is bad. Personally I’m excited for healing surge being on a 25 sec cooldown, but I may give healing signet a go since it’ll be on a 15 sec CD untraited.

Even at 2000 units that’s enough distance for you to break combat (therefore regen all hp lost and being able to catch up to people) while your pet keeps someone in combat. It was fun having 5000 units but I don’t think this is going to make that great of a distance.

I have never once completed it. After being ganked halfway by mesmers and thieves 3 or 4 times, I said “screw it.” I’ve been ported to the end by a mesmer 3 times, but that’s it.

The fact that you can invest 25 minutes in that thing only to get ganked right at the end is just insanity to me. Stupid game design.

There’s 2-3 fountains that grant you 5 minutes of invisibility when you use it. You can use any skills while the invis is up, but you can at least run the puzzle in relative peace. To answer the OP’s question I have noticed the traffic flow in EB’s jumping puzzle has seriously died down. I don’t mind so much since I usually just want to run the puzzle real quick then head out.

- As someone stated before, make commander tags have the option to only have guild members see it or squad members see it. It’ll enforce smaller / medium scale strategy play, rather than throwing bodies at a door.
- Defensible objectives like yaks, repairs, and defending territory should award 2/3 the wexp a person would normally receive to cap it.
- More diverse terrain (i.e. heavily forested sections, more stuff like the ruins outside blue keep in EB)

Easiest, and most reliable counter to stealth that wouldn’t break the class would be to just make it so that there’s a silhouette of the character when they’re in x-vision radius in front of your character (i.e. 150m frontal cone in front of you). That is close enough so that people with good situational awareness will be able to keep up with them, yet makes it so that a good juke by the thief / mesmer will be rewarded. Also I 100% agree that Rangers above all the other classes should have some way of countering stealth. Be it that their pets can see them and continue to attack / track them if the thief / mesmer stays in say a 300-450 vision range, or something, but blinding whacking the air in the hopes of finding the sneaky kitten is something that should not be common place.

Shaving off 5 seconds to the heal skills is huge. Hell, 3 seconds can be an eternity sometimes when fights are going down, so being able to use mending on a 20 sec CD or healing surge on 25 will make quality of life so much better for warriors overall. I can definitely see healing signet being used as a means of a consistent burst heal when traited. As for all the other supposed changes coming for warrior I think it’s best to reserved all the angsty, dramatic posts until after the real patch notes go live. All y’all need to just relax in the meantime.

It breaks SB for players like myself who run melee and need a ranged off hand in WvW. I use SB for the utility…My weapon of choice is Great Sword and without SB I doubt I can make it work as a main weapon in WvW!

Or you know, you could use swoop to keep the 900 distance if someone is trying to escape, or use the xb #3 dodge to propel yourself towards someone like with 1h sword #2. I usually use greatsword and axe/axe and if I really wanted to chase someone I had no problems keeping up with them.

axe/shield, hammer or greatsword, soldier armor / runes, a mix of berserker’s and knight’s trinkets, with a healing shout build with For Great Justice, Shake It Off, and On My Mark will make you made tanky, yet deal really nice consistent dps with some burst splashed in.

The fun thing about hammer is that if someone pops stability to run out of your ring of warding, you can immobilize them (something not affected by stability) so that they can’t run anywhere for a few seconds. The only thing about those 2 said skills that bothers me is how sometimes it’ll bug out and knockdown someone on the other side of the wall every once in awhile. Overall though everything’s working as intended dude.

One has doubt the wisdom of the AR commanders who have made another pact with BP, to possibly come in second, which failed last week.

By teaming with SBI, that guarantees at least a second, and possibly a first, once BP is trounced. Coordinating with another against a common stronger foe has always been the way of warfare for just this reason.

To ally with the stronger enemy plays right into their hands, guaranteeing them a first place. Why play this role and into their plans? The smart play for both SBI and AR is to go for the guarantee second place. If there are any alliances, that is the way of it.

I speak the truth and the truth rings true. This has been the way of the world since the birth of mankind. We should learn the truth from the blood of our ansestors and honor them by learning their lessons.

As others, specifically commanders, have already stated, there is no such “alliance”. Your conspiracy theory, both regarding last week and this one, is just that, a theory, and it’s just not true.

Here’s a little bit of a lesson for you re AR. I monitor TS and chat, and never, not once in the 6 months I’ve been playing on AR, has a commander, or anyone else, said “we need to do X to get Y points so we’re in Z place”. 1st, 2nd, or 3rd is a result, not a goal. As a server, we just don’t care. Sure, there may be a few who do, but in general, it’s just not important. And now the forum trolls will jump in and say “that’s why you bad”, or “that’s why you never win”, or some other kitten. I’ll nip that right now and say come guest on our server for a few days. You’ll see exactly why we come in 2nd or 3rd. Don’t worry, you’ll learn to really enjoy the Outmanned buff, LOL. You’ll also see that we punch above our weight, and that’s why we keep getting stuck with servers w/ 3x+ our WvW population, so bring your RAWRRRRR (or your speed buffs, depending on which group you’re with, LOL). :-)

I agree, points are meaningless to me. My way of viewing success is if I’m on either my home borderlands or EB and are able to defend everything we own for the entire duration that I’m on, I count that as a win.

They’re moving around stun breaks on classes away from certain trait lines (i.e. some stun breaks on cantrips for elementalist are being relocated to other skills), and adding a few to otherwise unused skills (i.e. adding a stun break on a ranger spirit active.) This is all assuming the changes mentioned are in fact true of course.

Norn is by far the better looking. The only thing preventing me to play one is how frigging tall they are and the running animation.

Love the Norn females the most. Then again I am slightly biased towards tall, strong women lol.

If any of the leaked stuff is true, have 5 seconds knocked off from all our healing moves is going to drastically increase our survivability. Hell, I may pickup healing signet again if I can have a steady miniheal I can pop every 15 seconds when I need it (most of the time healing shouts keep me well above 75% health in most fights.)

I use swap axe/axe for longbow depending on what I feel like using as my secondary weapon set (greatsword being primary), and I have to say that I’m kitten excited for both buffs if they’re true! Path of Scars already high damage and now a pull + Maul = tons of damage for me! =D

I personally think the pet damage nerf stated in the ‘leaked’ patch notes aren’t true; imho I think the pet dps nerf is going to be something along the lines of ‘if you have one pet damage increase effect up, any other you activate after it will override it.’ Basically making it so that you can combo pet damage increase effects back-to-back rather than just mashing them all together. I could be wrong, but that’s what I’d hope for anyway.

The whole weakness thing is not making any sense. As I understand it, a glancing blow does 50% damage. So weakness is a 25% chance of hitting for 50% damage, which overall is -12.5% DPS for a couple of seconds… /golfclap? It’s not protection or blind, is it?

edit: and to be a bit more on topic, I wonder if the cleanse on burst happens before the burst, so that blind etc are auto-purged before the attack. That would be very strong.

At the moment weakness only applies if it’s a non-crit. The change is going to make it so that ALL hits, crit or not, will have a chance of being a glancing blow. This is pretty much made to counter high-crit chance builds and crits in general.

In my opnion, the main problem of Guardians is mobility, also guards have the worst ranged atks in the game. These problems should be analyzed.

Seems like you would need sword/greatsword and JI to accomplish this. Why would anyone want to roll meditations, greatsword+sword just to run down thieves?

Because being able to run down one of the most mobile classes is extremely handy both in chasing and escaping.

If you know the class and know your roll in the group, any class works well in wvw.

This. While some classes have an easier time than others at certain roles, any class can do anything effectively. I solo roam, havoc squad, and zerg on my Guardian, Warrior, and Ranger all the time and I almost never had a problem doing any of those things.

Coming from a long list of previously MMO experience I’m always amazed as to how often people on these forums complain about all the free content coming out for this game. Hell, when I played EQ1 back in the day they didn’t do kitten until a new expansion rolled out just about.

Also something to think about regarding these living story events: what if these events are the base ideas for a much larger event / expansion? This could be their way of QA testing possible future content while having it have its own flavor. Just some food for thought.

Unfortunately it’s not a ton of stacks since there’s a 1 second ICD.

Might is still might. With receiving might when my aegis breaks, might on dodge rolls (via food), and might on crits it’s pretty easy to keep at least 3 stacks of might up, if not more.

Am I the only one around here who actually thinks the distance to damage ratio thing for the longbow is a cool feature? I wish that feature was more consistent with the other skills in the longbow set. Then again I don’t use longbow as my main weapon; it’s more my initiating weapon before swapping to greatsword to close the distance.

To answer your question OP, I run p/v/t armor with a half and half of p/v/t and knight’s ascended trinkets and use a triple meditation spec. For me it’s that perfect combo of tanky, yet high dps yield. I use hammer / scepter & torch, so while personal mobility is just average, I can really control enemy movements easily with immobilizes and ring of warding.

I personally use full p/v/t armor w/ soldier runes, and a half & half of p/v/t and knights trinkets. weapons are axe/mace (one soldiers, one knights) and sword/warhorn (both p/v/t). Running triple shouts (For Great Justice, Shake It Off, On My Mark) and heal shout spec I can usually 1v1 just about anyone, and with the condition removal + heals on shouts I have sustain for days without having to actually rely on my heal skill too heavily.

The only reason pugs don’t like rangers is most ranger pugs are idiots.

This is probably at least partly due to the fact that the metagame build for rangers in dungeons is “don’t bring a ranger.”

There’s very little information out there for rangers who want to know how to set up their weapons, stats, traits and pets for best results in dungeons. Many players probably default to using a longbow and a bear because they don’t know any better and haven’t had the opportunity to test so they go with the most conservative setup they can think of.

I know before the game came out I used to think my ranger would probably use moas and spirits in dungeons to maximize team synergy. Look how that turned out.

I’m so sad that moas aren’t a viable pet in dungeons / pvp. I used them all the time while leveling up and love their F2 skills / free miniheals. =(

That ability would be good for rangers and I don’t think it would unbalance anyone. Would be just a different function for projectiles, but I will disagree on them not needing another ranged option.

Long bow is terrible, popular belief from a lot of these bad rangers is that they are good. Their view point coming from a PvE stand point for majority of them supporting it, where pets gain aggro and they never take a single hit. These are the same people that run double bear in PvP.

The only and I mean only time that it works is when you are in a position that they can not reach you. Issue with that even? Your already unreachable, so anything would practically work and almost all do better. Mass group fight? Dead from retaliation. Single target? They just avoid the damage all together with easily predicted animations from the long bow.

This weapon is just plain terrible and you know it is even worse when a power short bow is better than long bow. Not saying power build is good at all to begin with, just that short bow does it better when it’s mainly condi.

Long bow needs a definite modification to bring it back up to par with everything else and there is a high need for another ranged weapon to fill in the gap between short bow and long bow.

I use longbow all the time these days in wvw, but I don’t main the weapon. Since my pIaystyle preference is tanky dps melee I use the #3 for the pet swiftness (makes my pet stickier on moving targets) and stacks of vulnerability, and the knockback for interrupts / pushing over ledges and the like. Rapid fire I really only use if there’s decent distance between me and the target, and barrage I use more like an aoe field that I stand in and try to force people to fight in when I switch to melee. Like most of the weapons in this game it’s how you use them with your playstyle more than anything else. The autoattack on it is stupid strong though (imo at least). I’ve hit people of upwards to 3k with just an autoattack, which is pretty freaking nice.

I’ll never understand that. I do FOTM 48 (non pug) with two rangers in the party and finish in good time (45 mins to 1 hour usually). I’ve never, ever seen a PUG besides CoF 1 do anything even close to optimally yet they abhor rangers. What the hell? Most the PUGs I play with can’t even jump tree stumps in the swamp fractal BUT OMG ITS A RANGER RUUUUUUUUUUN

Yeah pugs will be pugs….I think the stigma with rangers is that people assume you’re going to only use rapid fire on longbow + bear pets. Lord knows I’ve grouped with rangers who just stood there autoattacking not doing anything else lol.

But yeah as others have mentioned in those threads if people are declining your party because of your class then kitten those guys. Those tend to be the people who rage quit if someone in the party gets downed or something stupid.

The bow skills are all a tad run of the mill, but all the melee weapons, and the offhand weapons have some cool stuff going for them (whirling defense looks super sick imo). Barrage does look pretty awesome too, and it’s animation is misleading vs its actual radius.
