It’s kind of interesting to me that this has come up quite a few times. It hadn’t even occured to me before, but, yeah, really. I mean, I have a Charr character. He’s an Engineer called “Mister Chargue”, and he’s as big and as loud as possible, because I just sort of assumed that that’s what you make a Charr character for. I hadn’t even considered that female Charr served as a viable alternative if you did not want to be obnoxiously big and loud, but that would make sense.

Oh, I DO want “big and loud” all right. :p My charrior is max-bulk (but not max-size because of the literally nauseating camera issues in this game) and I just adore looking at her. I wish the female charr voice was deeper, snarlier. The thing is that while some of the female charr are a bit too “cute”, many of the males are just grotesquely deformed. When someone’s teeth are a tangled mess that by rights should mutilate half his own darn face even when only breathing, nevermind talking or eating, I don’t think “ooh, wicked!” — I point and laugh and shake my head. That is what I meant by “trying to hard to be mean and scary”, and why I like the female tiger-like and lioness-like faces best of all charr options for either gender. they’re plenty badarse/bestial while also being “realistic” in terms of not getting in the way of their own survival.

I have the same reaction to over-the-top “cool” armor and weapons as well as heavily sexualized characters and skimpy gear. The harder they try, the more attention they try to draw to it, the more it backfires.

Real answer: If you’re absolutely sure you don’t want to make a Norn, my vote is human. The voice actor for the male humans is the same guy who did Nathan Drake from Uncharted, and their one-liners are usually fairly trollish which makes me giggle.

The tank idea could work, and be potentially awesome for coordinated assaults, since you could essentially have 1 person piloting the tank, and depending on how many turrets / cannons it has on it, a person manning each turret. Plus anyone sitting inside the vehicle’s bay waiting to deploy to attack.

So no, power builds on rangers are not dead. It does take more thought / planning than condition builds to be effective though.

Easy fix, nerf GS #5 the same way they nerfed Ele’s RTL. I main a warrior and would totally be fine with that. It would slow down the GS/Sw-X troll warriors without wrecking other viable builds.

Do you mean where the CD is increased if it doesn’t hit anyone vs going on normal cooldown if it does? That’s an interesting notion if so.

I can tell you it makes it all the more satisfying to stomp people in WvW, knowing that 2 minutes ago they looked at you are thought “ooh a free lootbag”.

Pretty much this. In WvW, the majority of players I see use longbows, and they are awfully squishy.

Most players online underestimate a good ranger. The only classes you might struggle with is condi-mesmers and condi-necros, the rest are entirely beatable.

As a ranger, warriors and guardians are often the easiest to take down. Thiefs usually take a lot of effort, but they can be the most fun to fight.

If you want to try a ranger, go for it. If you can get into the way the class fights then you’ll be great in WvW (yes, even in zergs) you can solo camps, towers and possibly keeps (I’ve only done that along with an uplevelled warrior so it wasn’t quite solo!)

The builds I have trouble with my ranger are the ultra negative mobility condition duration warriors / engineers. My power build shines on enemy movement control (GS #4 cripple, axe #3 chill, chill proc / weapon swap aoe, etc) and not being able to keep someone pinned down makes fights against those builds extremely tricky. Otherwise fights against all classes are usually fun and against skilled players pretty kitten rewarding when you come out on top.

The only thing that annoys me more is the lack of real warrior players.I mean those that specifically mained wars in wvw and pvp since launch and endured for one year having to be better 10 timees than any other player playing other classes and still be not as effective.

Warrior mobility is ok except GS#5, pretty op. 1200 range without target combined with GS#3 (same weapon)?

Make GS#5 target only and 600/900 range, that is enough to use as gap closer, and stop using it for a “Free Out of combat” mechanic, because, GS#5 (1200) GS#3 (450) and sword#2 (600) if you run 1h sword, yes, pretty op 2250 range in 3 leaps without need a target…. pretty op.

If you run that you’ll be literally USELESS in combat since you have no CC and no means of holding your opponent in place to engage him.
You can ONLY run away with that spec. Why would anyone do it except to troll ? And if he’s trolling -why would it matter?

WvW is about coordinated attacks – if an opponent is running then you are winning.
sPVP is about holding points – if an opponent is running – then you are winning.

I’m going to say it again. VICTORY =/= KILL.

No CC? you have a LOT of cripples with that 2 weapon, the only issue is 1h sword is better for conditions, play a guardian and tellme about “no CC to keep them in combat”

With GS#5 (target needed) and a little less range you have still a great gap closer, the same CC, but you lose the “free out of combat” so, why you complain?

GS warrior have the same “free out of combat” as light armor classes but a lot tanky, with a lot of damage and CC. That is fair?

I do just fine on my guardian with CC….hammer / scepter + focus (or torch) can keep anyone immobilized / pinned to a specific spot for days. Just sayin’.

As for your argument as everyone else has mentioned if a warrior is using a sword or gs in their build they’re choosing to have a mobility option vs a dps-oriented or cc-oriented weapon. Basically it’s rock-paper-scissors style choosing for what you want to bring to the fight.

I’m happy For all the Information i can get!

Granted my video is 4 months old, but even after all the patches this build has been working pretty solidly for me. If anything it’s become even stronger with the more recent GS buffs. The only change I can tell you I made recently is that I use both River Drake and Marsh Drake for my pets now since their F2 skills are not only one of the more reliable ones in terms of connecting the attack, that amount of might stacks you can get from RaO is intense. Now that the longbow has been buffed to the point of being equally as poor a weapon as the other Ranger weapons,

ISN’T IT TIME TO PUT THE RANGE BACK TO 1200 ON THE SHORTBOW?

Since there was never any claim of the shortbow being overpowered and the only reason was to make the longbow somehow more appealing. That is the only reason offered by a-net.

They mentioned this when they first changed the distance on shortbow that it was never intended to be equal firing distance as the longbow, it was just a bug they took way too long to fix, so don’t hold your breath.

Well yeah, you’d want to get ascended gear for builds / playstyles you predominantly use more than others. I’m working on getting my power build for my warrior fully ascended first before I do the condition build or work on my alts since that’s both the character / playstyle I use the most.

Im saying they have very bad individual skill thats among worst servers I encounter in the game.

Please use this universal form when describing other servers vs your own server:
Unlike my server _____________, _____________ server(s):
[ ] Is terrible in 1v1’s and/or has bad roamers.
[ ] zergs / blobs 24/7.
[ ] always hides in their towers when against equal numbers.
[ ] has spies and siege saboteurs amongst our ranks.
[ ] always allies with ___________ server to 2v1 my server.
[ ] complains about my server __________, when we never complain about them.
[ ] ________ server only does PvD.

Case in point: every server has bad commanders / players. Every server has players using cheese-tacular builds, blobs/zergs, and has good / great commanders / players. Your server nor mine isn’t special in any way. The only clear differences that can be made between servers and their success or failure is how effective their communication is amongst commanders / players. Population variances are also a factor, but there’s only so much you can do about that aside from recruiting or whatever.

TL;DR
Quit being a kitten. Just play and enjoy the game. I like cheese, booze, and gaming; order doesn’t matter.

Warrior vs Guardian duels

I like bringing lots of hard CC to the party against Guardians. Lots of them do run stability of some kind, but with the on crit boon removal sigil you’ll more often than not strip them of it. Or I bring shout heals for the lolz as all their damage is completely negated without having to actually use a heal.

Ascended gear actually has the same stat points as legendaries, and while 1 ascended piece isn’t going to make you stupendously powerful, a full set of ascended gear will make a noticable difference.

I use River Drake and Marsh Drake with my power builds. Their average dps is pretty decent, but what makes them shine in a power build is when you use Rampage As One with their F2 skill. Their breath attacks shoot 6-7 projectiles that can bounce up to 3 times each, so if there’s at least 2 enemies in close proximity to one another you can easily hit 20+ stacks of might from just one skill. Plus they offer an aoe blast finisher that applied weakness as one of their basic moves as well, which is awesome for mitigating incoming damage.

So I absolutely love the new norn face that has the scars / blind eye, and was wondering if anyone else thought have a scarred body type for the thin, medium, and Altered-Beast-massive body types would be an awesome addition as well? As a norn warrior having battle scars is not only fitting, but just adds to the ominous factor!

Not fighting them and alt-f4ing are different things. I would rather take them in a long chase to waste their time than just alt-f4.

I do this all the time against cheese-tacular builds on my warrior main. I especially do this against condition builds on classes than require them to be stationary / in a fixed area (i.e. well / mark necros, trap rangers, engineers after they drop their supply crate, etc). It just becomes so godkitten tedious to fight them. As OP mentioned when I win it’s not rewarding or fun, I’m just annoyed even while stomping them lol.

Edit: I meant to say I just have them chase me all over the map if they’re that blood thirsty and I don’t feel like fighting their annoying kitten build.

Condition duration revamp

There are lots of threads on various forums discussing this, and I’ve had an idea about how to temper condition builds so that they can maintain their usefulness / playstyle, without totally nerfing their damage.

The idea is that any general condition duration bonus to be treated like swiftness. I.e. if you have a rune set that increases condition duration by 20%, traits that increase durations by 30%, and food that increases by 40%, then only the food is applied to your condition duration.

Now, I do believe that any traits / sigil / runes that increase a specific condition duration should remain as-is with regular condition duration in that they stack, as you’re making a concious decision to make X-condition your bread and butter DoT that really sticks on a target while any others you apply will run their course until you can reapply them.

Let me know what you all think!

Lord Pain, how is a warrior regenerating health faster than I can dish out damage balanced at all? As well as having more mobility than a thief. That sure makes sense.

The regen can be pretty intense if you’re just a bunker build, but as for the mobility their weapon selection / traits are usually geared around mobility, so if you see a sword + warhorn / GS warrior they’re a professional runner

I won’t deny that you’re right in that there’s a ton more warrior running about than there was previously, but that may also be due in part that since release warriors have been a popular class to create. Now that warriors have not only multiple builds and utlities that work well, but lots of weapon set variety on top of that, lots of people have been dusting off their warriors or making one to give them a go.

I typically see more thieves, guardians, and necros than I do warriors usually, but then again my playtime hours are scattered all over the place due to my work schedule, so I’m prob not seeing the NA prime time warrior rush.

This is another build I use in wvw (roaming, zerg, w/e) from time to time as well. The focus of this build is to be able to put on conditions consistently, while being fairly immune to them myself. I’ve been thinking of taking out signet mastery for something else, but having 2 full condition wipes up regularly is extremely handy against those monstrous condition-splosion necro builds.

I’m currently using this build in both wvw (roaming, zerg, w/e) and pve, and it’s proving quite successful. I’ll sometimes swap out sword / shield for my GS if I need to be more mobile vs defensive, but using SoR and FGJ + the food I have a constant 5+ stacks of might, which is amazing.

I’m personally not a fan of pure zerker gear only because in a fight once people see how squishy you are you get autofocused immeditatetly. I am more a fan of pvt armor + zerker trinkets or zerker/knights to maximize your damage output, but still being fairly hardy. As others have mentioned there’s a lot of viable builds these days for the warrior, my personal favorite being shout builds w/ soldier runes since condition builds are still insanely popular.

PVT kind of sucks! If you are looking for more survivability you can go Full Valkyrie Armor with cavalier/zerk trinkets, get the same Vit/Toughness of PVT but you also get way better crit damage.

My stats with the combo I mentioned earlier gives me the perfect balance of the tanky dps rolls I like to play, although I can see how your item setup can be just as effective given the large boost to crit damage your stat combo will give. I just like having strong consistent dps as opposed to relying on crit damage to get my damage in, but that’s just how I roll.

How Heal as One Should Work

Heal as one: Heal with your pet effectively reviving it if dead to 50% of its health 30 second cooldown.

Heal as one was the MAIN beast mastery spec healing in Guild Wars 1 as well as the most used pve resurection spell in the game and as such should work the same way as before

Definitively would put a final end to pet behing kitten d in pve and would put the final line between beast mastery specialist and regular ranger who dont give a darn about their pet and dont even bother traiting them. Heal as one should also be considered a shout style or pet ability for the purpose of reduced cooldown only beastmaster would benefit from

Good God yes. We just need a pet revival ability period. The pets I use are actually pretty kitten useful all around, and being able to bring them back without having to go into the 40-sec revive CD swap would be amazing.

I’ve said this before but i’ll say it again. They need to add another stat that condi users are forced to take to be effective. If we want to build for power, you need power, precision, and crit damage to be effective. This forces you to sacrifice defensive stats. You hit hard, but you die hard, so it’s balanced. Conditions are OP because all you need to take is condition damage and can take defensive stats and mindlessly spam skills while your damage eats away at your opponent.

They need to make conditions only have a CHANCE of activating when you apply them to a foe. Add a new stat that works like precision but for conditions. Condition chance or whatever. So someone with 100% condition chance will be able to always apply their conditions. Someone with no condition chance will have a hard time getting any of their conditions to stick to an enemy. Dire is a stat that never should have existed. The mindless condition spam while being tanky is cheesy as hell. We’re all sick of these high reward, no risk super tanky condition builds that take forever to kill while eating away at your health rapidly with conditions that they can reapply faster than you can cure them even if you spec for pure condition removal and nothing else. They WILL wear you down eventually. There needs to be more risk in this brainless style of gameplay.

Its way to easy to counter all -%conditions build just by getting 1 trait + food and you still do like 80% condition duration to everyone.. most bleeding have LONG durations..

They indeed need to rebalance condition bunkers.. stacking just condition damage + food and some trait/runes and you can stack vit/toughness also..

I run power/crit build warrior, if i meet a condition warrior i am doomed.. they have like +500 toughness and almost 10k more health compared to me..
Also i HAVE to crit to do good damage.. they dont.. just spam your conditions whenever you can..

Just remove food from this game and remove ALL + AND – condition runes/sigils..
Only traits should give – or + condition duration..
Its stupid if someone run with + food.. you get – Food.. its stupid.
Conditions are already long durations.. with food/runes/sigil and trait like +50% bleeding for warr.. making it WAY to OP.

Honestly I think the easiest fix for both + and – condition durations is make it like run speed / swiftness where the maximum % benefit applies, but the others do not. But I do like what both of you guys have offered as suggestions as well!

The gear / accessory combo will make you fairly tanky, yet be able to dish out consistent DPS. If you put a sigil of impact (+10% damage vs stunned / knocked down enemies) your axe #5 (or GS #2 if you use that as a weapon swap) will be that much stronger. Although to be honest I prefer Axe/Mace since so many people run stability / tons of stun breaks these days in wvw.

As a gap closer / opener it works great, granted it does overshoot a lot for me as well, but I have noticed that people panic dodge all the time against it, which works well for my builds since having an enemy prematurely blow a dodge gives me an edge in a fight.

My main problem with conditions is that condition duration bonuses stack. I think condition builds as a whole would be more interesting if condition duration bonuses acted like swiftness bonuses. I.e. if you have a trait that adds 50% longer bleed duration, and +40% condition duration food, then you only get the 50% trait bonus.

But to be brutally honest though the +/- 40% condition duration foods need to be toned down hard.

Axe main and off hand

I love that main hand axe is a throwing weapon, it makes it really unique. I just wish it didn’t have such an identity crisis. Give the auto bleeds or make Splitblade and Winter’s Bite actually do some direct damage.

I honestly prefer Winter’s Bite the way it is, since it not only chills, it provides your pet’s next attack with weakness, but which amazing at damage mitigation. Splitblade though I will agree is a bit….unusual, but the bleeds it provides are still useful to getting some dot ticks in. Not to mention splitblade essentially gives you 5 chances to have on crit effects trigger from 1 move, so there’s that aspect too.

Defiant Stance discussion

simply go into the heart of a zerg and bash them with your hammer, watch as u go down to 25% health and your auto endure pain expire
right before it expire pop defiant stance and chanced are you are back to full health assuming the zerg is dense enough
get out of the fighting before u get zerged down again

with the amount chaos of Aoes and stuff on the ground chanced are not many opponent can notice you popint defiant stance and kite you carefully while you use the heal

that is of course assuming you dont get a 90 radius giant red glow on you while its active

I can’t even imagine how hilarious that will be to do….it’ll be like having the guardian block heal + invuln ultimate combo. There’s going to be tons of rage tears with this heal I’ll bet

I think I’ve used Arcing Slice in pvp all of twice, and boths times were accidental presses. As Qoltera said, fury uptimes are not difficult for warriors, so an F1 that basically only gives that is kind unnecessary. If Arcing Slice had a similar function to how kick works where it autofaces your target, and provided something else other than fury it might be useful. Just my 2 cents.

In most fights my opponent is capable of getting away from me, so is it my fault if the enemie dies because he did not used his class advantage?

I’m really tired of people running away tbh. If Anet is trying to take down our burst, then they better do something about making true their claims about Necro being a hard class to escape from. Right now we aren’t even close to that and the condi burst is the only small hope to bring them down before the run.

Today a warrior ran away from me about 5 times in WvW, and tried to reengage with stun chain combo each time, he finally either got tired of the yo-yo game or made a mistake, because I finally took him down with a good corrupt and signet combo, but still its absolutely ridiculous how everyone else gets to pick their fights with us, try over and over, then just run away when they screw up. If we screw up one time, we are dead, there is no escaping, short of a cliff being around with Spectral Walk up.

Warrior mobility is way over the top. I feel sorry for warriors in certain circumstances where they need help, but their sustain and mobility is far too high to support having the highest defense and vitality.

There is no amount of buffing they can make that will allow us to keep warriors in a fight against us if they want to leave. With the freebie stability proc on interrupt/fear, stability on shouts, blocks…. you are not keeping them stationary.

While I don’t mind thieves getting away as that is their class MO, warriors are completely pointless to even fight if they are running Greatsword and don’t want to fight. I would imagine they will see the same treatment RTL eles got eventually.

Holy kitten I’d love to have stability when using shouts! In all honesty though I agree with you, and I main a warrior and ranger for the most part. Speaking for wvw only as I don’t play Spvp much / at all, the biggest problem I have with warrior mobility (even as a fellow warrior myself) is the 40% negative condition duration food. All other movement / condition cleansing abilities warriors have have to be traited / runed for, so they’re giving up trait / rune space just to be able to do that. It’s mostly the food that irks the hell out of me. Same goes for the 40% increased condition food, but that’s a different story.

The solution to the Kite+Condi builds overpowering the meta is simple and two-fold:

  • Make Toughness effect incoming condi damage
  • Cap +/- Boon/Condi duration increases at the highest single increase

Stacking effect durations is currently way too powerful and because condi-builds are highly defensive, non-condi-built defenses should counteract them.

There definitely needs to be some kind of condition duration cap similar to how run speed and swiftness work. Also the positive and negative condition duration food stuff needs to be toned down something fierce….like 15-20% bonus tops.

Love when other classes pop up here to share their “wisdom”. Yea most warriors I see are running around shredding whole armies by themselves while dual wielding Hammers and the infamous 30/30/30/30/30 build. Passive Healing signet shrugging off poison and ticking for over 5,000 a second. Meanwhile perma stunning wave upon wave of foes with ES stun that cant be avoided or mitigated…….And when it gets really tough they pull out their LB and use it blow holes through SM walls with a single shot.

That all seriously sounds like something Kratos would do.
