No idea what you’re talking about friend. My condi reaper can pump out close to 8k damage a second with all the dots I can build up. Add in a Mesmer for reduced cooldowns and I’ve gotten up to 10k / sec burning all my skills back to back. Even power reaper is hella good. Sounds like you just need to revamp either your armor / trinkets, traits, or both.

I’ve basically created a more effective and fun shout warrior on my necro…..and I love my shout warrior…..haven’t used him since I unlocked all the reaper traits if that says anything.

Death Shroud vs Reaper Shroud

I’m never going back to regular Death’s Shroud after having Reaper’s Shroud. In both power and condi builds Reaper’s Shroud is just so freaking good. Good mobility, way better #1 attack, and the mass aoe + stability are fantastic.

I’ve been doubtful about this class before, since I don’t really do PVP and I’m really interested in high level PVE content; however people has been saying Necro is a waste of time for PVE and sincerely, when I tried Necro some weeks ago I felt he was very lackluster in terms of damage (I only played it up to level 8 because I got bored…).

I want to retake my Necro, but IDK where or how to begin and if it’s even a good idea to max him for high level PVE, considering I have a Ranger, Reve and Guardian.

Necros are so good right now in both PvE and PvP. Either power builds or condi builds the trait lines are amazing for them and once you get the Reaper elite unlocked and going it’s even better. There’s a good amount of build variety you can choose from to play with, the weapons are interesting and blend in with Shroud skills really well if comboed right, and overall the class is just really good. I’m not gonna lie I kittening love Necro shouts more than I do Warrior shouts now.

So in conclusion yes, Necros are good. They’re kitten good.

Berserk mode?

There’s traits to make it give you stability pulses while berserk, and if you were to ‘die’ while berserk you get a 5k heal instead…..how is that not enough?

Is this thread for real? Necros have some of the widest variety of conditions to dump on multiple targets consistently….Hell, you can even trait it so that entering death shroud will dump bleeding and weakness on targets around you as well as the plethora of conditions available to you….

Granted this is a bit old now, but it’s still painfully easy to overpower just about any class / build as a condition necro:

My character is wearing assassin exotic armour, but with some toughness on accessories. My toughness is 1443, armour 2363.

Found your problem. My necro is the only class of 4 professions I have that has anything less than 2.8k armor atm, but even she is at 2.5k (working on ascendeds to bring that up to 2.8k.) Your defense is very squishy, hence why glass cannon builds are doing so much to you atm. Try using cavaliers (iirc) accessories since they give power, toughness, and crit damage as their stats since you’re using assassin’s gear.

i’ve been running a more direct damage variant of this build for a couple months now , and its funny, all people do is call you bad right after you completely destroy them, its really funny.

I’ve only used shouts on my warrior since I started playing, and I have to admit it’s kind of hilarious when you fight condi heavy classes, especially when running the 4 shout build. They try to pile on so many condis at once, and like magic they’re suddenly gone!

Plus, many run off hand focus so watch when they have the shields around them, because if you break that shield it deals crazy damage to you.

The focus shield actually does damage if it isn’t broken. It does however deal full damage even if it blocks a few hits but is still up. Only takes about 3 hits to knock it out completely, so quick autoattacks, of any moves that bounce between the guard and another enemy or yourself (i.e. focus #4, dagger #4) will knock it off pretty fast.

Aside from Lyssa runes they don’t have much in the ways of stability, especially if they’re triple meditation guardians. As a condition necro if I see one coming I’ll drop 2 marks on my feet (usually staff #2 + #3), and once their blinds have been used, I fear the ever loving crap out of them with staff #5, DS #5, and spectral wall + spectral grasp. Terror + all the other conditions you apply while they’re feared will down them pretty hard most of the time.

Granted I don’t play Spvp much because I hate the stat choices on the neck / jewel, but from a wvw perspective I usually don’t have a problem with hambow warriors at all. Aside from the 8 seconds of immunity via zerker stance, it’s hilariously easy to melt their hp, even if they’re using negative duration food. Maybe I just know the rotation better since I main a warrior myself, idk…but the only class / build I actually have to pay attention to most of the time are condi PU mesmers.

Haven’t changed out of Healing Surge in any of my builds. I don’t like to rely on healing signet as one long duration poison application at the wrong time will counter it pretty hard.

This 100%. I love spectral grasp so much on my necro. It would be awesome if there were more effects like this. First thought is if someone hits a spectral wall could there be a 2nd move with it that pulls any that hit the wall to the necro.

I will say that with 86% condition duration and access to 4 chill skills, I can keep someone perma-chilled with 20+ sec of chill for the duration of a fight most of the time (condition cleanses obviously chance that up, but still, that’s a ton of chill duration.)

Also if any of y’all are playing Norn Necro’s snow leopard form is a godsend for escaping while roaming / small man havocs.

To start spectral grasp would need fixing, I can’t count how many times it just flies in the wrong direction, produces ‘obstructed’ on targets less than 600 range away or just doesn’t pull the target any closer to you when it does hit.

I haven’t encountered that problem as much with spectral grasp…only time it obstructs or otherwise gets buggy / weird is when I see the projectile clip a tree or trying to go through a hill to grab an enemy. I will say pve mobs / other players who get pulled by it instead of the target I wanted is annoying as all hell though.

just going to point this out;
Warrior in 1 v 1 is rubbish.

Why?

You lack evades, blinds, stealth, condition builds (dont make me laugh, the bow is horrible as a condi weapon and easily evaded/countered by anything out there), and last but not least, warriors have possibly the second largest amount of unskilled players after rangers. The average warrior is horrible, however since in a WvW/PvE setting, all a warrior need to do is follow the commander, facetank the enemy and press 111111 F1 111111 F1 1111111 F1 1111111 and possibly, you have to activate zerker stance somewhere along the lines.

Realize one thing, your profession as a whole was not designed to be an efficient 1v1 profession. That role was granted the medium and light armor professions.
Thieves, Engies, Rangers, Mesmers and Ele’s will all outperform you in the 1v1 section, while you will outperform them in the ZvZ section of the game.
It may sound a bit old fashioned and chauvinistic but seriously, know your place son.

Troll harder bro. Warriors can 1v1 and ZvZ just fine, often times with the same build.

thats the problem, Warriors are forced to go hambow to be effective in PvP, that build is the source of all the nerfs warrior gets and guess what happened … you even see more hambow warriors because the nerfs destroyed some other decent builds but hambow still and got even forced upon us as warrior’s only path.

Who the hell said we have to go hambow? mace/shield + gs, axe/mace + sword/shield, hammer + gs all still kitten face in pvp / wvw. I will give you hambow is a lot more forgiving of player mistakes, but it’s not your only option.

Screw new pets in the same family! I want a new family of pets! I want to wear a Beehive as a back item and use that for a pet! It doesn’t attack for much, but it always provides a constant stream of Torment

Its F2 could be that it throws out a bunch of Honeycombs on the ground, and you can pick them up curing a condition or something.

Even the devs dont know what the warriors purpose is. They keep nerfing our damage to the point that soon there will be no reason at all to go melee.

hehehe dropping by on the warr forums from time to time is always a fun/sad experience

I swear the warrior forum is becoming worse than the thief forum. One change comes up and everyone kittens themselves. I still use mace/shield (or hammer) + GS on my power build, and Sw/Sw + Bow on my condition build and still wreck face in wvw. People just like to kitten at anything new / different.

Wanna see how warriors are NOT OP? Fight a skilled necro, engineer, thief, or mesmer. They will destroy you. If they pop doom sigils on their weapons a warrior will be destroyed even harder.

People need to L2P. Warriors are EASY MODE on my engineer.

A Necro can’t get through the berserker stance and the constant cleansing coming from Cleansing Ire on 30 discipline builds.
Engineer can’t do kitten on the insane stability uptime of Warriors, neither can survive the stunspam.
Thief can’t even get through the armor dealing decent damage at warrior to the point that engaging them is a pure suicide.
Mesmer is just lol. Any squishy light armor profession just melts on hammer and stuns.

Anyone can melt warriors with any profession in hotjoins where people usually don’t have an actual clue about what they’re doing.

You’re right that necros (or anyone for that matter) can’t get through berserker stance while it’s up. However if you’re trying to spam your rotation while that move is up and the war is your main target soyou can clearly see the berserker stance icon up you’re doing it wrong. However at 86% uptime on all conditions my necro can easily keep 10+ seconds of chill on a warrior even when they have dogged march + food + runes.

To be honest I think all the ‘oomph’ for using sword in a power build is final thrust. I use it from time to time in my power build and seeing that hilariously huge number on final thrust when the enemy’s hp is below 50% is always nice.

Both are better than bow builds for roaming in most any case. A (rare) example of bow being better is shortbow with x-x-10-x-20 with pet condi dmg and feline bleed on crit. Then you shortbow 4 for extra bleed stacks.

Bows generally have less control over condi / dmg application and apply less as well. Take ranger vs ranger. You cant time condis to empatic bond while the s/d a/t can stack 11 bleeds and 6s burn in 2s after empatic bond ticks. His condis will last and yours will not so you will die.

Power builda are generally garbage for roaming. You can only kill with luck or bad opponents.

Agreed with your condition weapon choices, but my God are you way off about power builds not being good for roaming.

Food counters food, runes counter runes and traits counter traits. My necro has on average 86% condition duration up time. I’ve fought against tons of warrior builds and my normally 20-ish seconds of chill (applied via 4 skills chained) still lasts over 12 seconds easily if they all connect against a negative duration setup.

I’ve been using GS + axe/axe since I made my ranger months ago, and its proven more versatile than using a bow. GS has the evades / movement skill, and axe/axe has the ranged component needed + a pull and a reflect. Good weapon synergy between them.

My favorite aspects of wvw:
- I can use my racial utilities (snow leopard form w/ necro is amazing for roaming / bailing bad situations)
- As others have mentioned, builds for classes have greater variety (I saw a spirit weapon Guardian the other day, and he actually held his own with some effectiveness. It was like spotting a unicorn.)
- Map / population size

One thing I wish could be changed:
- PvE commander tags don’t work in wvw
- Commander tags that only guildies can see

I love mobility builds in all the classes I play (GS on warrior / ranger, meditations on guardian), and have been trying to make my newly 80 necro much more mobile than she currently is (she’s norn so my elite in small man group is snow leopard for the trollish gap closer/opener + invis). I’m seriously going to give this a try and see how it feels. Just watching people do the backpedal spin around looking for you when you were porting is comedic gold.

Would be too overpowered.

Pop healing spring and proceed to maul someone’s face off while they try to use: A, raw damage which gets healed right back with the finishers or B, with condis which get cleansed and healed right away.

Only thing they need to change is to be able to interrupt them leap so you can use dodge when needed.

You’re also assuming that someone is kittened enough to just sit there in your water field while you use the leap finisher repeatedly.

My ultimate tanky dps build. Strong enough for roaming solo, and good group synergy through healing shouts / on demand condition cleanses. Also when empower allies activates in combat my autoattacks are usually critting for 2k. I sometimes use sword / shield + axe / mace if I don’t want to using the ol’ mace/shield + gs combo.

I like the vitality infusions for my defensive ascended items rather than toughness….then again I’m sitting on 3.2k armor as it is already with any weapon set I use, so I’m doing fine in that department lol.

I like it. I use the double endure pain setup when I use it, and with popping balanced stance before using the heal (just in case, never know what might happen in a big fight) I can swing away for what feels like an eternity before I have to actually watch my health lol. It’s a ton of fun in big fights. Small fights not so much as your enemies will actually wait for the timer to run out on the heal.

I think you missed the point here. I have rolled Warrior since Beta, almost exclusively. I’ve been through its ups and downs. I agree that in some aspects the warrior is OP atm, but it was the part in my post that said “For literally anything” that was the point. I have heard someone complain warriors are OP because of their cool weapon animations. God, that was lame. Osicat (The famous mesmer(sigh)) is in my guild, and I remember he complained about warriors and guardians being OP because when he fought 3 warriors with banners, it took too long for him to stomp them before they could res eachother. Ofcourse he killed them in the end, it just took too long time, so they are OP. Logic, yes?

I can’t take people I don’t know seriously in this matter. Too many times I have fought Thieves that are squishy as kitten and hits like trucks, but because they are squishy I can kill them. They later complain that they just got killed because Warrior is OP. They got killed because of their build. It doesn’t work to kill Warriors. I have met tons of players from each class that have the right set of mind to compete with warriors, even Rangers. You need to build to beat a warrior. People that doesn’t know how to defeat a warrior are the people that complains it is OP. Period. The high level skillcap is not OP, the avarege warrior can probably kill the avarege anything though. Still, a slight damage nerf would even things out a bit more.

This post is strictly in the eyes of a hardcore WvWer, not PvP or PvE. Also, this post was not created to boast or brag in any way. Thanks.

Agreed. Every build that the warrior has has a counter or drawback to it. The hammer / GS build that seems to be going around these is only good for hit and run tactics or 1v1 duels….it’s complete garbage in a real teamfight in wvw where they can get focused down in 2 seconds or against a condition build that can reapply poison effectively. Same goes for all the builds that are available to warriors; there’s a counter to them all, just a matter of figuring out what your warrior opponent is bringing to the table when the fight starts.

If anything I think people are just mad at the amount of variety of not only builds, but weapon options available to those builds for warriors nowadays. My power shout build can use a ton of weapons, and granted my condition build is most effective using SS / Lb, I can still swap out off hand weapons for either more defense via shield or movement via warhorn.

TL;DR
Buff other classes to have more build variety + weapon choice variety for their builds to match the warriors diversity.

I only play my ranger as a melee / mid range ranger using GS and axe/axe. If I use my condition build I use sword / torch + axe / dagger so pretty much completely close range / melee range.

In WvW the racial elite of the Norn can provide some serious troll moments. Ever had a Warrior disappear into stealth as he was losing? Norn can, and it’s extremely annoying. I wish I had made my Sylvari a Norn instead. Just to troll a group as I was going down to disappear as if I was a thief. Sheesh!

Oh yeah, Snow Leopard form can be super trollish that way. I’ve also seen the flip side where they pop it way out in the distance, stealth + rush a target, and just revert to normal and decimate their target before they can react. It’s pretty majestic to see.

A return to your roots

So once the main story arc for Zhaitan is all done with, there isn’t much else going on story wise in Tyria except for the living story. I really enjoyed the personal story, in particular the areas of the story before the pact coming together. So I was wondering if once a player completes the Zhaitan fight, maybe we could have a daily personal story choice to do. There could kittenoices to pick from, and perhaps the specific objectives of each could be RNG like fractals: doing a personal story instance that involves your hometown (i.e. fighting off Sons of Svanir for the norn, defending a village in Queensdale from bandits for the human, etc), one for your order (i.e. leading a Vigil squad against ______ foes, infiltrating _ area as a Whispers against, etc) and one for the Pact (i.e. defending / assaulting a strategic point of interest against the undead or what have you.) That way players can get a sense of continuation in the world within those organizations because it just feels like once the Zhaitan fight is done and over with, your ranks within your order and the pact are moot and you just become ‘random adventurer #2341552113’.

Also just as a random train of thought: why the kitten are the order weapons / armor so expensive, and on top of that, why are there only lvl 80 versions? Seems a bit strange when a warmaster of the Vigil or a lightbringer of the Whispers is running around like a patchwork zombie with rusty weapons meanwhile NPC initiates to the order are in full garb / weapons.

TL;DR
Give purpose to your characters ranks for their hometown / order / The Pact with a repeatable daily story instance quest of their choosing.
