1800 gems for a server transfer? Why!?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seven Star Stalker.1740

Seven Star Stalker.1740

There were free transfers when the game launched. People would transfer to another server to spy on their WvW rivals.

Huh. I never heard of even a single verified case of that – just a bunch of the usual troll suspects on the forum saying “Yep, that’s what I’d do” whenever it was brought up.

I can contest for this personally. One of my friends was a WvW flocker – he’d flock to a different server every week, depending in the match up, and hang out there till the next round came along.

Ascended Weapons: Are they Worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seven Star Stalker.1740

It feels pointless, tbh. I think what makes this more annoying than WoW’s VP was that in doing the VP for WoW, you were progressing to an actual goal. With ascended, you’re not really using the new stats for anything. It just gives you more numbers and extra opportunities for AR (which are pointless outside Fractals).

In WvW.. At this moment I would have to say its at the very least nuisancial to have something like this. Sure, most 1v1 match ups are skill based, but I find that people fully disregard stat bonuses. If it was purely skill based, what good would be there to add more stats to begin with? Why not just make an exotic tier with ascended slots. This doesn’t even include the fact that now people are purposely letting objectives fall in WvW so they can recap for their ascended mats immediately after. And keep in mind that people who are trebbing from a safe distance whilst their friends are at the front lines more likely than not will miss their shards and Ores simply because they couldn’t make it in time to the lords room to kill the lord, so you get punished for essentially supporting your team.

It also punishes people who don’t enjoy or can’t afford the crafting costs. And really, crafting isn’t exactly the most exiting thing. You’re just standing in front of a able watching this bar turn full a dozen times in a row. You can’t sell it, so there goes that. And karma Nerfs mean that whilst its not hard to get now, in the long term, if you get a precursor after you get deck out a bunch of ascendeds, you’re going to have a harder time working for your shards. So you may aswell just save up for that. There’s also random drops, but I’d say random drops are hardly a reliable source for weapons if the drop rate is 1% or w/e.

And on top of that, precursors are.. Wierd? Apparently we’re going to be able to craft them. Yet they’re less powerful than Ascended. So we should keep our precursor in our inventory and only use it when we get our legendary? Wut..?

I dunno about being worth it or not, but one thing I can say, is that the whole execution of it seems very sloppy and short sighted. It doesn’t feel like they factored all the things relating to them when they actually did. It’s not game breaking or going to make me “THAT’S IT IM LEAVING GW2” or anything but really, this could’ve been much more polished up and neatened on Anet’s part. They spent six months but it feels like they gave ascended weapons six hours of consideration before releasing them.

My thoughts on Ascended/Direction of game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seven Star Stalker.1740

This feels really sloppily done. Not the post, but the way ANet excecuted Ascended weapons.

It feels like they thought, “OK GUYS ASCENDED WEAPONS TIME” and that was all that was considered. They didn’t seem to think about people who dislike crafting, people who hardly play PVE, people who don’t capture keeps, people who are defending in WvW, people who dislike being part of the great Zerg, people who can’t log on everyday and especially people who don’t like the prospect of another gear tier. They could’ve immensely polished the method of application.

And I expect someone to respond with the obligatory, “Noone’s forcing you to do anything” but honestly, that’s pretty cruddy that if you don’t craft or play lots of PVE, you’ll be left behind in he dust.

Beating GW2 on Normal Mode unlocks Easy Mode

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seven Star Stalker.1740

Notice though. There are several reasons for this. 1) They are sticking with their philosophy that there will never be content you NEED highest tier gear for. 2) The jump from Exotic > Ascended is maybe half a tier. The jump from Fine > Mastercraft and Rare > Exotic are MUCH bigger leaps (almost 200 dmg on some weapons) where the jump from Exotic > Ascended is about 50 damage on average. I’m certain Armor will follow the same rule. They offer a relatively small boost for a whole new “tier” their main perk is the infusion slots.

Well isn’t it pointless then if the mass use for infusions is in Fractals? Even in WoW, you have a certain progression in the gear. It’s not Get Naxxaramass 25 Armor and then that’s enough, rather, after that you need Ulduar gear to move on and so forth (Ignore the order, focus on the point).

OP’s point is that There is literally no need for Ascended. The skins even suck largely compared to others. It’s a pointless number, and a nuisance for WvW.

Why did Jeweler not get increased?

Posted by: Seven Star Stalker.1740

Seven Star Stalker.1740

However, they really should be craftable as well, since right now, the jeweler discipline really has no purpose to level to 400 other than for Gift of Ice.

It has lots of purpose … people don’t just jump into Ascended trinkets at level 1.

No, but once you hit 80, there’s no reason to not just get the Ascended rings, skipping the craftable Exotics (and rares) entirely. Heck, it’s probably easier to get an Ascended ring than to get the mats to craft an exotic one.

Whilst I agree with the OP’s general vibe, this part here is false. I craft exotic jewlery once a day (Usually a single amulet, earring or ring) and sell it on the TP for a profit because I farm my mats personally. It literally takes you five minutes.

This doesn’t hurt the players who are able to laser focus goals.

This hurts the players, new and old, who use karma for what can be called “The Starter Exotics”. This hurts players who actually like Cultural Weapons. This hurts players who want to craft ascended ON THE ROAD TO LEGENDARY.

Once again, artificial barriers like this aren’t going to make people play more. It just limits the distance between what a player wants to do and what they have to do. I like this game, but certain decisions lately have made start to look elsewhere.

As far as exotics being easy to get, well…that’s actually something I like. Not only do I like to play alts, but I like playing different builds. Reason I stayed on with Guild Wars after beating prophecies back when. Had so many possibilities. If you wanted to listen to the WoW crowd(I played that for 5years also), you should have just copied their design.
So, while we are listening to that type of player…can we get healers/Raids/Mounts?

Hunter title?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Seven Star Stalker.1740

Seven Star Stalker.1740

I was thinking of a challenge Achivement set with several titles. Basically, the goal is to kill 1 of each unique mob on a single map. Of course, this means for example, if you kill a Risen Thrall in Caledon Forest, this doesn’t mean you don’t need to kill a Risen Thrall in Sparklefly Fen. When you clear all Zones in a region, it progresses to a meta Achivement on which there is a title for each tier, and there is a tier for the number of zones regions completed.

It could go as something like;

1. Hunter.
2. Sharp Hunter.
3. Skilled Hunter.
4. Relentless Hunter.
5. Ultimate Predator.

It doesn’t need to be immediate, and this suggestion is more a framework of my idea to get a concept of what I’m saying. But it’s a nice reminisce of the nostalgic Vanquisher tiltes in GW1.

Zhaitan is most definitely a mutual enemy of all races.

And Bubbles … we don’t know much but I mean, the largos live in the Unending ocean so we’ll definitely see more of them once we get to fight Bubbles. Bubbles also is responsible for the krait pushing the quaggan out of the Unending ocean.

Seven Star Stalker.1740

I think that’s a bit of a conspiracy theory there, suggesting that they are gating karma hardcore just to keep people playing longer.

I think it’s far more likely that karma jugs will be on the gem store soon, but they didn’t want to make this karma nerf at the same time or people would quickly come to that conclusion. I’m thinking November or December- karma jugs on gem store.

It will never happen. Karma jugs in the gem store would be directly linked to buying power since it’s (now) used as a means to get a some what main ingredient for crafting ascended weapons and you can buy full sets of (for the time being) the best gear available.

I’d like to contest this point.

ANET was very smart in doing one thing above ALL others, and that was making Gems and Gold interconvertible. Obviously. This means that you can purchase things off the gem store without ever having to spend a cent, and in this way, they’ve actually made themselves for the major part immune to the term “P2W”. There’s always the counter argument that you can get gems if you work hard enough – their argument, not mine. And as long as this is the case, no matter how horrid the conversation rate becomes, you will literally never be able to call them p2w because this counterstatement will be stalking around.

They need to do what they did in Orr, on a larger level.

If you go to Orr, the entire region is progressive. It’s literally, get to the coast of Orr, get to ML and take Balthazar on the way, get to Lyssa temple and fix a few places on the way, get to Dwayna and fix more stuff, get to the last spot, get into CS, then work your way through CS and secure locations, get into Arah and blast Zhaitan out of the sky.

Problem is, hardly any of the other zones have any progression in them like that. And none of them influence eachother like how Orrian temples do, so yeah .-.

Maybe for example, while the Shatterer is up, Branded enemies will be found outside of the dragonbrand in Ascalonian zones, for example? That’d be a bit of a step in the right direction.

Mini Mr Sparkles sold for $700.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seven Star Stalker.1740

Cosmetic items were supposed to befunding this game since the beginning. If you can’t afford them, you simply can’t have them, and it’s perfectly fine because it doesn’t prevent you from playing the game in any way. Having a luxury item is not something you are entitled to. You are entitled to having mandatory items, like exotics, which you can get through many means within the game.

(And you obviously can’t afford them if you complain in topics like this instead of buying them for 600 or 60000000 or whatever price they are sold for)

You’re not very sharp, are you? Because what you said has nothing to do with the issue in this thread.

People are complaining because they can afford it, it’s just that there are no means for alot of people to get it. If I pay $2000 to go Germany to get that code, NONE OF MY CASH went to ANet in doing so. If I lay $700 on eBay for Mini-Sparkles, Not a single cent I own went to Anet in doing so. Unfortunately for me, I live in Australia and we don’t even get Cons or big companies coming over here, so I’m largely over the whole thing simply because more likely than not I’ll never get one anyway.

I can guarantee you, majority of the people who want a Mini Sparkles will be able to afford it if they released it in the store. And honestly, that’s something that LoL did very well. Alot of their gaming con content drew heaps of issues from people, so what they did, was they made _______ code available at the con. People who went were able to get it for free, but people who couldn’t go for any number of reasons could buy it from the cash store. Then, after that convention weekend, the content would disappear forever. If they did something similar, at least people have a chance of getting the dam thing.

ANet by no means needs to copy other companies, but they could learn a couple of things here and there, especially if they work.

You are like that Dontaine guy on youtube…

Money doesn’t have to go directly into Arena.net’s pockets to benefit them. Arena.net got other stuff for the mini, which they apparently think is enough. If it’s not, it’s up to their legal department.

If you can’t get that mini for whatever reason, you are simply not the target audience for it.

I don’t know who that is, but I do disagree only on your last line there.

I don’t think it’s a matter of target audience, because people are saying they’ve seen it at two different cons in two different countries. If Mr Sparkles was targeted at the German/European player base.. Why give it away at an American cons if their enot the target market for that same Mini? Obviously this is either a) their flagship product or b) they’re too lazy to make a new one for a different target audience.

And again, alot of the audience who’s getting the mini are just.. Really in the right place at the right time. There’s no announcement from ANet about their presence at cons and the stuff they’re giving away, at least not on this site which in a way is kinda awkward being this their own site. .-.

Karkas should be first.

Racials can be:

Harden: Refills the player’s health bar, and grants them protection.

Vile Release: The Karka regurgitates digestive acids in target location, causing enemies to take damage and become poisoned aswell as vulnerable for a short duration.

Shell Roll: Rolls forward, dealing damage to all enemies caught in the path. Enemies take high damage and are left vulnerable.

Elites:

Karka’s call: A young Karka bursts from the ground, assisting you for 30 seconds.

Reinforce: The Karka increases it’s Armor, reducing damage by 75% For 20 seconds or until the shell is broken. This does not interact with condition damage (I.e Conditions are not hindered, but do not remove the shell either.)

Egglay: Lays eggs on target area. Shortly after, Hatchlings swarm nearby enemies and explode, applying random conditions. When activated, the Karka can reuse this skill twice within a ten second window before the skill goes on full Cooldown.

Hive defence: Summon two adult Karka to fight for you. These Karka will not disappear under a time limit, but after you leave combat, they will die and go into Cooldown.

Engineers are for people who actually know how to play the game, warriors are for those who don’t. Rangers are for everyone in between the extremes.

Yet they’re still terribad in terms of a class.

Why?

Visually they suck – Legendary Freedoms are restricted due to internal weapon designs, and skins and legendaries conflict with weapon kits, making them in a major sense cosmetically redundant.
The skillset.. It feels lacklustre. I mean, it’s strong because I’ve been playing my engineer since Day 1 of release. But they don’t feel particularly strong compared to other classes.
They have little mobility. The only class in the game that can’t use constant or spammable Swiftness abilities (This includes all those Speed Signets).
They’re too random. I NEED STEALTH TO GET PAST THIS CHAMPION KARKA FOR ORILACHIUM NODE. NOPE. I GET STABILITY INSTEAD \o/ [/end sarcasm]. I mean, okay, I get the whole “Mix this and this and Boom! Invention axe” thematics, but a bit of consistency is nice.

Horrendous çooldowns. |: And their utility is kinda meh. Their stealth from Toss Elixir S only covers 6 or 7 allies, and everything else is purely self effective, save for damage abilities and a couple of combo fields.

They could have been made ALOT better IMHO.

I do not suck visually thank you very much.
While the legendary issue is a valid one I have no interest in either Quip or the Predator.

Not strong compared to what?
I feel pretty strong, in fact when I just want to blow off steam I load my Engi- the havoc she can cause is second to none.

Mobility- they have rocket boots! rocket boots!
Who wants to run like a little jackalope on speed when you have Rocket boots!?

If you need stealth get a couple of Whispers spy kits- I like having stability -it is so difficult to look bad kitten when you are thrown around like a sock

Utility is great for me, I would say second only to Mesmer.
Cooldowns are also not a problem since I swap kits so much

BTW what is it with you and stealth?

Whisper spy kits? .-.

Do elaborate, please.

Utility wise, please elaborate aswell, because I see very little utility on my Asura Engineer, barring elixir tosses (Inconsistency syndrome here) and Supply Crate. I don’t swap kits alot, admittedly. But even in that, your kit-abilities still have cooldowns. Rocket boots are not mobility. It’s not even targetable. You just jump forward a distance, loosing CC. It feels alot like it should include a single evade, or a movement speed boost after, to be honest.

And again. Consistency is like.. Non-existent on engineer. elixir X, Elixir B, Elixir C, Elixir U. All random skills. You can’t plan an attack with randomness. If I wanted randomness, I can play a Mesmer with all their random boons here and there and everywhere, thanks.

The turrets also feel like a lacklustre version of Necro-Minions. They also pull aggro on neutral enemies. They should also make it so they actually deal damage on destruction. Firing rate is often slowl

Again, I’m not saying they’re completely useless. But I can see MANY things beyond what I’ve just listed that ANet could have given them. And the funny thing is, these things – if they polished them a little, I’m extremely doubtful that they’d end up overpowered.

I think we all know we`re just slaves for the PvErs.

We fight hours over one spot, more then likely dying loads, spending a fortune on repair bills, having to pay to even install waypoints, merchants & npcs that can be killed all too easily & for what?
To give the server a smidgen more hp/etc to help those PvErs dragon slay (cough spam one cough)

The scarlet zergs (which for some reason is now flashing up in WvWs, you could run & fill over 100 bag slots with loot & gain plenty of silver/gold over a short time.
Having to vendor/salvage whilst fighting mobs & fighting for bag space ;p

To get that in WvWs would take weeks or months.

Worse, I suffered that to get the watch-tonic, something to play with in WvWs.
But oooooooh no, we`re not allowed to use those in there.

Don`t even get me started on the fact we need years to get the WvWs achievements, whereas PvErs get new ones every two weeks :$

/sigh

Could be worse though, at least we get hundreds of grey spikes, all those in bgs get are crappy click to salvage every time items & once in a blue moon a dye.

I was actually thinking exactly that yesterday. If only WvW was considered viable volunteer work when applying for a job. :C

Engineers are for people who actually know how to play the game, warriors are for those who don’t. Rangers are for everyone in between the extremes.

Yet they’re still terribad in terms of a class.

Superior Ballista Bolt 10k Damage, Superior Ballista Improved Spread Shot – Point Blank 35k+ Damage.

The Ballista is meant to hold a choke point, hitting 50 players in a line or bundle. The Catapult is meant to destroy walls.

I believe if they increased Ballista range it would make it overpowered, as it can already cause mayhem if you have 2 – 3 of them and players trained in the rank line.

You can basically prevent a capture with these.

Ballista AoE limit: 10
AC AoE limit: 50

Ballista is only good when you can hold players in a choke point. So maybe for 2 shots total. AC is infinitely more useful and works in infinitely more situations including before and after the chokepoint is broken, before gates are broken, and beyond LoS including countering ballistas.

Ballista should be overpowered at holding small choke points in straight lines because that’s all it can do. But it hardly is. Because it lacks the CC (cripple) that AC has, is extremely limited in siege placement, and is basically single target after the choke is broken.

Hmm I honestly have played since beta and never noticed the 10 player limit… This needs to be changed to at least 25. Then it would be viable.

I’d say it needs a better rework than that. Part of its issues are the Projectile trajectory. Unless you’re on a height advantage (A significant one), it’ll often fail for a number of reasons. Also, outside of choke points, it’s extremely easy to avoid, yet taking an AC is much more easier, isn’t restrained by awkward angles, has a higher target count and has a better targeting method (You don’t need to actually target anything to fire).

Unless the enemy seriously failed in their Catapult Positioning, chances are you won’t really hit anything. Also, you don’t even need to dodge to avoid the missile.

I’d consider calling this Power Creep, however I don’t think either have been changed since release, save for masteries, which hardly count unless you’re like.. Rank 700..

Toughness should mitiage..

Conds can be better mitigated than direct damage. There is no way for me to mitigate as much direct damage as a single cond clear can do Vs. a long duration burn or a lot of bleed/torment stacks. Then there is 40% duration food, Melandru, traits (on my eng it converts some incomming conditions to boons, my guard passively removes them every 10s etc.)….

Toughness is fine as is as well. You’re not meant to just tank every bit of damage in this game. You need to dodge as well to prevent that damage from even occurring in the first place. This actually opens up more builds by giving classes like guard vigor on crit (crits then become a way to mitigate damage). There are also sigils which can help your survival greatly by refilling your endurance.

This is his answer, trait, rune, sacrifice to mitigate it, because you cant just trait into it like necro’s, Yes necro’s, they are the easiest to point at right now.

Condi’s are not fine, not if you compare it to power based attacks.

Look:

Melee based attacks, kite
*Range based Condi spam, eat it and mitigate it with your long CD’s, because your not going to be able to kill them anyway.

If you build to mitigate Condi spam, your not going to be able to kill the ranged spammer, thats the difference, the range condi spammers can safely kite you while your trying to close in for attacks that arent going to hit anyway.

Except that’s an issue of MELEE VS RANGED. Not Melee vs Condition. And in that sense, Ranged will always be overpowered.

Furthermore some classes need condition damage. Look at engineers. Their direct damage is really cruddy, and practically 80% of their weapons apply conditions on a major level, be they hindering conditions of damaging conditions (Grenade kit, bomb kit, Alot of on-Crit effects their traits have) for one example.

And melee weapons in general aren’t very condition based. Proof you ask? I just decided to use two examples; Warrior and Guardian. Looking at their melee options, they have quite a few CC abilities, but only Warrior Swords have a significant amount of Comdition-based damage applications. Engineers don’t have melee weapons. Mesmers don’t either, besides swords, which also have very few conditions (Immob, cripple, vulnerability). On the other hand, the vast majority of their ranged weapons have numerous condition damage sources at disposal.

The flaw of Ascended Weapon Boxes

Seven Star Stalker.1740

Tbh I have to disagree, because its use is dependant on individual play style. I for example, am running a Dire-Condingineer, with Energized Armor and Blood Fusion traits aswell as superior runes of the undead. So I personally capitalise well own tanky stats. So the range of state I can use is significantly higher, simply because my damage increases with tankiness which alot of non-direct damage weapons have.

I do wish you could sell the boxes though so people could buy and pick a descent weapon for themselves.

Tequatl is an undead dragon, a lieutenant and champion of Zhaitan. Which begs the question:

Why Tequatl?

Why not a new dragon, a champion of an Elder Dragon as yet unseen? A precursor, if you will, of things to come.

Anet may have forgotten about the other Elder Dragons, but I haven’t.

So, regardless of whether the revamp works or not, I’m calling this yet another missed opportunity in a game full of missed opportunities.

To be fair, the Karka were a result of Bubbles p-ing them off, which was how they got to Southsun in the first place.

I love ballistas with all my heart but they need alot of buffs. Right now, it’s really easy to avoid ballista fire, and they’re only good at choke points and siege weaponry, half of which can’t even reach.
