In my honest opinion. I think they should make it character-bound infinite withdraws.

So say I have an engineer and a ranger. And I buy a pair of armors – Aetherblade And Krytan. If I use the Krytan armor on my ranger, it will make it fully unlocked for my Ranger infinitely. However if I wanted the armor on my Engineer I have to buy a new set for her. If I got the Aetherblade set and used it on my engineer, then it should be free infinitely on her, but if I wanted it on my ranger, I’d have to buy it again in that case aswell.

I did suggest that they should reduce the drop rate of crates, remove items like boosters and transmute stones, and increase the drop rates slightly for more rare items.

I find the biggest issue with BLCs are that they are so common, so to make up for the common-ness, the drop rates for useful and desirable things are extremely low. .-.

I don’t want BiS, i want a leveled field in WvW, i can’t understand why they thought it was a good idea to have a leveled gearing system in SPvP but not in WvW.

I don’t think WvW was ever meant to be a level playing field. Think of it like a real war, some nations may legitimately have better gear than others, it isn’t level then either.

IMHO this is a cop out. It’s like saying “You have a weak immune system, so it’s okay to be sick” to someone.

yes it does give your stats a boost, but you don’t NEED it to do any content.
Therefor it is completly optional

ps: U used a warrior as an example……..u can be in Masterworks and still be fine in any of the end game content using that class.

Sigh.

You also don’t need to have raid/tier gear in order to raid in WoW either, yet people on this forum loathe the WoW raiding/gear treadmill stuff.

Why do people think that Arenanet’s version of a treadmill is differen’t than WoW? Many that play GW2 loathe the WoW treadmill and say GW2 is nothing like it. But it is the same.

You don’t need Ascended gear to do any content other than high level fracta.s
You don’t need raid/tier gear to do any content other than the highest raid tier.

It might take you 2-3 months to be fully decked in ascended gear(provided you aren’t playing 24/7)
It takes you two or three months to be fully decked in a raid tier.

What is so different? Subtle differences, but I see more similarities than differences. Stop being naive people…

Its the same system as the WoW treadmill, masked differently.

I am afraid I have to fundamentally disagree. First of all, BiS is divided. You have PVE BiS, and PVP BiS (SoO gear, vs Prideful Gladiator’s gear). So the issue of BiS depends on your game style.

Sure, they’re interchangeable, however PVP gear is principally better for PVP by virtue of things like PVP power and PVP resilience and other effects which are better for PVP like CC resistance, reduction, increasing your CC and the like – majority of which are largely useless in PVP against big bossess.

Then, you have gear acquisition. You have SoO Heroic, which is the highest potential form of gear till.. Well, the next Tier, and Prideful, which is for PvP as we visited earlier. You also have however random drops from bosses in raids. This means you don’t need to vendor everything; YOu can also win just by doing to content itself. The vendors are for tokens. Keep in mind, that whilst the drop rates are quite low, the number of players are also more controlled, roles are more organised and the overall system is much more refined with loot, loot prioritization, stat prioritization, re-rolling loot vendoring loot, and the most important things in my opinion, Item Trading and streak breakers.

In GW2, we have none of those things. Amongst the drop rate for ascended is the chance it drops your required gear. You can’t set it to “Drop-Zerks Only”. You can’t trade your sunless weapons to other people who participated in that run. And fundamentally, you can do hundreds of Tequatl runs and never get anything. You can kill thousands of champs, and nothing remotely interesting will drop.

In WoW however, assuming you only raided, eventually you’d get something you can use. If you don’t, if you go through Flex/Organised groups, you can re-roll for something better suited to you. I might get a hammer that’s better for a healer, and re-roll, and get the DPS one instead. On the topic of which you might just avoid the healer hammer all together, and get something that grants Mastery over haste when haste is what does best with your build.

Do we need roles? I don’t believe we do (Even though we are supposed to have control/support/dps.. Whatever happened to that). Do we need closed instance raids? Probably, unless Anet fixes their optimization issues. I can’t do any of the major events without giving my computer PTSD, and what good is a game about cosmetics if you keep the visual qualities to the minimum? Seems purpose defective to me. And my laptop isn’t too bad for what it’s worth.

Do we need an improved looting system? Yes. Do we need more things to loot? I belive that’s part of the problem. In WoW a boss can drop well over a dozen different items. In GW2, you have like.. 20 items or so, on two bosses. But loot is personalized, so to keep the economy stable and value and rarity stable, the droprates are waaaaaaaay too low to really farm anything. In addition to that, majority of bosses don’t have unique loot tables or the like. The drops are very, very generic and repetetive. All temple bosses drop Orrian _ of the _____s. All champions drop Champ boxes. But only a handful of bosses have anything unique tied to them in the way of loot. So the drop rate for those things is strangled, and the variety overall is miniscule. And no, we’re not including black lion ticket skins. Those should be icing on top. This game, in regards to cosmetics, should have ENOUGH in game cosmetics on it’s own without the need for the Gem-Store. ANYTHING in the gem-store should be a bonus sort of skin. And yet we’ve got the exact reverse – the majority of cosmetics are gem-store guided, regardless if you gold > Gems or Gems > Gold.

Edit: Item trading, as in item trading with people in the group with you.

The price far outweighs the stat increase. Its nowhere near worth the ludicrous amount of money to get 500 in a crafting profession, then make the actual gear.

I’d rather horde my money until Arenanet makes decent looking legendary weapons.

Jeez. These threads are broken records. First we had ascended trinkets/back items and then weapons and then armor. Ascended items have been around for a long time and are not going away. It doesn’t matter at this point what I or anyone else thinks about ascended items. They are here to stay. Get over it. Move on.

My problem is not with ascended items—at all. As far as I’m concerned they can stay forever. My problem is with vertical progression. That can stop at any time. And, it’s more likely to stop if players complain about it. That’s why you see these threads over and over and over.

I agree with you. Except, I don’t see anywhere other than ascended items, where they plan other vertical progression. And all of these threads revolve around the items. If you hate VP, then talk about possible VP that might happen.

To be fair, they very clearly said that “For now, this is the final tier”, to paraphrase.

There’s no real guarantee if this is the end of it. And I doubt it is.

Seven Star Stalker.1740

This is my thoughts on the matter;

This game has an overall.. Odd design. What you have, is that everything has the potential to drop something valuable. HOWEVER, to make up for this, the drop rates for everything are EXTREMELY low. Even for boss-specified skins, like the Wurm and Tequatl Ascended gear. The result is you can only access it on a practical level via crafting, which from almost everyone I’ve heard of, is dull and boring. Which I’m inclined to agree with.

The next problem is the Ascended Gear’s very conceptual design. It’s time gated in crafting, so that people can’t rush. However I for on remember many threads with “First to make Ascended _ (Server name here)” when Weapons and Armor released respectively. And this was within hours of release. So on the one hand, it’s time gated to slow people down, yet clearly the design failed to do this. On top of that, Ascended was designed for people who were more hardcore in a sense of progression.. Yet.. it was time gated for people to be able to keep up? Wut? The whole design of VP to some degree is that some people are stronger than others for working towards a goal. So having those people restricted seems restricted for people who don’t want to be left behind seems a bit ironic, given its design requires people to be on unequal levels.

Ascended was made for fractals, yet, it is available outside of fractals for use. This is okay, I guess, but it’s not really something that should’ve been allowed to filter into WvW. Anet could’ve easily changed WvW to make it like the sPvP environment but they didn’t so there’s that. I understand why, but I’ll get to that later. The other issue is the stat curve. The stat curve isn’t remotely worth the grind, yet it’s just enough to be at that point where you’re better off getting it than not. There’s already people asking for “Ascended only”, so yay for that. Finally the stats are rigid as heck. So if tommorow Anet changed stat-interaction, or made condition builds more viable and Zerks less so or such, you’ll have to grind a whole new set and spend a month or so again. GG WP for that. And both those things are easy to understand.

Now; Why?

The reason and rational is pretty simple.
It’s a psychological game. VP is a egg laid by whoever was the first person to realize how they could use Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs in the industry of MMOs. The last tier of MHN is “Self-Actualization” – that sense of pride, of accomplishment, superiority and greatness. This is where Ascended comes from. It is precisely in the middle of useless and necessary, and that’s why people hate it, but need it. The reason why they’ve made the stats so rigid, is so that they can change it – as they are with fury – and so that you need to spend more time grinding to feel that same accomplishment again. And assume that no PVE player cared for it, they made WvW unofficially require it by again making the stat gain precisely too great to ignore and too small to consider serious. Finally, it works because the vast majority of users are still in that mindset, and even though they don’t want VP, it’s sort of like a forbidden fruit that they can’t truly resist.

Now you can quote me with a tin-foil hat post, but this is the basic law of marketing; You need to make the client feel like they need whatever you’re selling. They need to want it and chase it, you shouldn’t need to come to them to get them to buy it. And look what’s happening? It’s a self rewarding system. There will come a time where not having ascended will be frowned upon because that’s what the ultimate goal is. Anet won’t have any traffic if there’s nothing for the players to bite at.

Good or bad? That’s individual opinion. I don’t like it, but I’ll quote my dad on the matter;

“..Gamers are loyal to their games, but games are never loyal to gamers..”

The bad part about ascended is getting shoehorned into crafting, instead of giving us easier ways to acquire them.

Then there would be “nothing to do”. I would prefer it if they gated ascended gear behind challenging, but instanced, content. That way you would earn it by doing challenging, heroic content instead of sitting at a crafting station and stretching the limits of your patience. Not to mention your wallet as well.

Surely this wouldn’t be a problem for the people who run around in blue gear and “play how they want”. Because ascended doesn’t matter, right?

Lol so your saying if they guaranteed ascended through content then you’d all of a sudden stop caring about the player in blue gear? Exotic dungeon gear that has been easily obtained has been available since day 1 of the game. If he is still in blues chances are putting it behind content still won’t make him change out of his blue gear.

Let’s stop beating around the bush: fact is you want the instant gratification of bis gear with the least amount of effort and cost all the while complaining how mats and loot holds no value and is in overwhelming supply.

With all this posting you do in the forums, you should put it towards learning to read what people say.

I have a high post count. That says nothing for how often I post. If you’ve read 20+ ascended threads, you’ve read em’ all.

Though I am posting in one, so hey. I might be insane. You got me there.

But telling me to be insane and read these countless QQ threads about ascended gear is bad advice. I never needed you to tell me to do that. Here I am.

You’ll find me in others.

But I figure I’ll spare the sane ones. You’re giving crazy advice. No one sane or a non-masochist should subject themselves to that.
_

Appreciate the recap though.

I wouldn’t protest if they gated ascended gear behind challenging content with a crafting option. That would make everyone happy.

Instanced, no. That’s stupid. It’s an MMO.

If you want to work for it with like minded people in the game, that’s a good, fun, community building way to do it.

You’ll be directly contributing to getting those exotic (and less) noobs into ascended gear. Win/win.

If you want to craft it without all that teamwork business, the option remains.

But to say to make it an instance is essentially taking the community out of the game. That’s antithetical to what an MMO is.

In short, Dark Catalyst I agree with you. In part.

You don’t need Ascended armor. The stat increase over Exotics is minor. So if you’ve given up on getting these, you can still play the game as normal.

This argument has been used countless times. It has been countered countless times too… so stop using it. It doesn’t change the nature of ascended armour.

Yes. Your counter is that the minor stat gain from ascended is a huge game changer. The argument is that, no, it really isn’t.

Okay, so why do we need ascended at all if they are just a tiny stat gain anyways?

COUNTERED

You’re a little late with that argument, as it’s already there. We have it. It’s done. Non-sequitur. Try again.

Not sure why you’re quoting me, considering I neither addressed you, nor did anything you say have anything really to do with me. .-.

The increase of a full set of ascended armor is more like just 1% .. don’t compare the increase to exotic armor, compare the increase to the total stats of your character.

You’ve largely missed the point the OP is making.

And, regardless, Mike O himself described the increase in the power level of the game from the initial pieces as roughly 5-10%. I’ll go with the Anet figure here. And, just a reminder that they didn’t add Ascended gear so much as they added vertical progression to the game. Vertical progression doesn’t progress by stopping. I’m guessing from the first year that it will be +10% per year. That seems reasonable for a low power curve as they said it would be.

But we’re not talking about that.

Yes, the OP touches down on that matter, but that’s not the main point of this thread. Discussing this is more or less derailing and outright redundant.

Seven Star Stalker.1740

The problem with GW2 is this:

It is now one of the most grindy popular games on the market atm.

You really think that GW2 is more grindy than WoW, Aion, TERA, EVE and Blade & Soul, to name a few?

You can’t include Eve in that list because Eve is basically a game you have to pay all your crap for anyway.

For the others though, I actually don’t mind WoW in the slightest compared to GW2’s grind. It’s exciting. It’s interactive and somewhat fun. I’m doing more than pressing 1 1 1 1 1 like some sort of binary programmer, and the best part is that even if I don’t get my own loot outright there are tokens and things that drop to compensate so I can get it from vendors and the like.

All you get in this game is gold, but even the gold can only be used to buy crafting materials of various kinds.

Seven Star Stalker.1740

No grind = no goal to work towards = no point to continue to play. If you don’t want asc items no problem you can still effectively play the game. The problem lies that our society lacks patience. We want everything yesterday with as little effort as possiable.

You can make a grind fun though.

The problem with the ascended grind is that it truly is dull for the major part, and crafting is the only way to practically get it which is time gated, so if you miss a day then you get behind. (Which in retrospect is a fail because there were people who claimed to have had full ascended within an hour or two of the patch so loltimegating.)

Overall it feels like a chore, which isn’t really all that fun. And the stat increase is just enough to be enough to appeal to players to chase, yet enough to not really make a substantial enough show of vertical progression (somehow?).

Then there’s the fact that they’re going to change how some of the stats in gear synergies so now people have to re grind the gear they already went through her trouble to make in the first place so. . .

The drop rate for Dragonite Ore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seven Star Stalker.1740

Seven Star Stalker.1740

Looking over that list makes me think they need to drop from more places.

Guild challenge can only be done once a week. And the WvW drops are only from taking Stonemist Castle or a Keep. The LS and low lvl meta events drop 1-5.

So doing high lvl orr meta events is the only real source, which get’s boring.

Believe me, if you take the time to do world events (using a timer) for just 2 hours, you will get more dragonite ore then any the amount of bloodstone dust you get from doing 2 hours of champtrain in FS or the amount of Fragments you get when doing 2 hours of dungeons. It’s clear that you don’t like doing world events (judging o nthe amount you got) but some others don’t like champtrains or don’t like dungeons. The purpose for ascended armor is that you need to do all (PvE) elements of the game.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragonite_Ore

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empyreal_Fragment

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pile_of_Bloodstone_Dust

After glancing over those, in my honest opinion I think the problem is more that events don’t give you freedom on how much ore you get. I mean if you look at Tequatl, for example, I imagine a lot of people would agree that Tequatl is harder than any of the bosses within that tier. However Tequatl only drops 15-25 ore per kill, for the effort. On the other hand you have The temple priests. Some of them are pretty tedious like Balthazar and Lyssa. But the rest, aren’t really that hard, in some cases for a long the thy were solo-able. Yet they give more than Tequatl despite the effort being waaaaaay less.

I think they should make the drop rates for dragonite more consistent. Rather than having multiple drop rate tiers, just make them all drop within the same bounds.

You don’t need gold in WoW and a proper raid guild means 4-12hrs a week at max.
Making money in Maplestory is only to reduce the time it takes to farm more levels.

The problem with GW2 is its a cosmetic based game that locks most skins behind gold and gems instead of gameplay and actual progression is limited. At the moment, the only end-game is leveling up your pvp level or wvw rank because fotm/dungeons are garbage.

Just thought I’d be fair. We do have some skins, like the fractal skins, Zenith Skins, Hellfire/Radiant skins and Aetherpath/Tequatl skins (Though in all fairness, Those are RNG based, not actual rewards for anything, and the Tequatl skins had such a low drop rate that they’ve increased it thrice now..)

The only skin I like in this game are SAB weapons from TM because those CANT be bought with gold, so they display true skill progress even if they are the most particle effecty skins out there.

You can’t buy fractal skins either, and they only drop at a certain level of difficulty, now and then.

I get what you’re saying. I just think it’s fair to give the credit where due, even if the credit is small.

RNG and Grind in GW2 is not that bad

Seven Star Stalker.1740

The RNG and grind in GW2 is mind-numbing. NCSoft and Anet are obsessed with squeezing as much money out of the playerbase as possible in the shortest amount of time. The end result is a game that comes across as kitten in the “finished product” department, and a loot system and economy built soley on the push to get players to open their wallets. For the majority who fall on the “lose” side of the kitten RNG, everything is a grind. Want T6 mats? Grind gold to buy them. Want a special skin? Grind gold to buy it. Want a mini? Grind gold to buy it.
The entire game is focused on forcing people to grind for gold, and it is deliberately designed that way. They are creating a high pressure environment where the only thing that matters is gold, because psychologically it has been proven to bring in more real cash.
You know why we don’t have a large number of emotes/animations? Because they were seen as superfelous to the end goal of making money. They were additional development work that was seen as “no cash flow”. Same applies for fixing a number of QoL issues. The Monetization Lords see it as a waste of time because players aren’t leaving the game over it and it doesn’t bring in more money.
By design everything is forced into being an issue of gold. Diminishing Returns is not about bots, it never has been. It’s about limiting loot drops so that players need more gold to buy the items they want, because needing more gold is another pressure to open the wallet and just buy gold.
Then there’s the “urgency” pressure. They introduce gem and gold valued items that are only a round for a short period of time. “buy now, or miss out!”. People feel pressure to open their wallet to get that item they want. RNG plays a massive part in this. “Buy black lion keys with gems and you could get a Black Lion Claim Ticket!”. Anet is actively, and knowingly, feeding off of people who have money and don’t know they have a gambling addiction. It’s worse than gambling, in fact, because all the items are virtual and have no real value. So people are not even gambling real money to get a possible cash prize.
Every aspect of it works together to apply as much pressure as possible on the players to pay real money.

Yes, Anet needs to make money to stay in business. What they are doing however is abuse. It needs to stop.

I was going to post something but this blows anything I could write up out of the water.

Yeah that post from Neural and Dark Catalyst reaction on it pretty much sums it up all.

It’s why I dislike the focus on micro-transactions so much. I also made a thread about the focus on micro-transactions to basically say exactly this.

But some people seem to not want to see it.

What is really mind-numbing is when you go to the threads where they ask “how much money did you spend on gems”. People are there very proudly telling the spend hundred of dollars on gems.

Like it gives them any status (this is also what the prices are all about Anet gives to gem-buyers. Make them feel special) and how they are helping to support there game.

While they fail to see they they simply can’t handle money, monetize people are just using those sort of people (as milk cows) to get money out of there wallets and in fact they are not helping to support the game but helping to destroy it. Because without such people the game would not have been such a gem-store focus (as it would not work) what only could benefit the games quality.

I saw your thread ages ago on the BLTC forums, I think. It was pretty well written and quite extensive, admittedly.

In any case. A quote on topic;

In the wise words of my father, “It is not games that are loyal to gamers, but gamers that are loyal to games..”

In GW2, precursors are pretty common as evidence by the number of people with legendaries in LA.

I just noticed this now. What in Heaven and Earth are talking about? Precursors are so abysmally hard to acquire that Even Anet themselves have announced that they’re going to change the acquisition method. Your statement doesn’t hold up very well.

Let me give a brief account of modern attempts to combat the RMT industry.

Company – “Alright guys, have fun leveling your characters to XX!”
player 1 – “leveling takes too long. The first time was fun though.”
player 2 – “Yeah. I’m gonna go pay real money to get power leveled from some shady dude on the net.”
Company – “Ok, how about we offer to level your character to 80 for real money? You know, legit and stuff.”
player 1 – “Pssssh, what is this P2W ish you’re givin’ me?”
Company – “But you just said..”
player 1 – “shhhhh, no more talking.”

DR was introduced due to bots. I was playing back then. Not sure if you were, but there was a lot of bots back then. DR if your being hit with it you really need to rethink what your doing cause it doesn’t kick in for hours of you playing in place without logging out and switching zones. Also, you aware there is more and more games having RNG boxes. WoW from what i am aware is going to add them if they have not already. So do not think this is just Anet. It is only pressure if you allow it to be. If you allow it pressure you should go get checked out by a councilor or a therapist for an addiction issue.

As a few people pointed out they do not feel pressured but if you do then you have a problem that should seek professional help with it. I have missed dailies, LS, and other things without much of a care as I do not feel pressured to keep playing. If I was paying a subscription fee i would feel pressured to play to get my moneys worth. Since GW2 does not have you should not feel pressured.

I’m playing WoW right now and the closest thing I can think of is the Timeless Isle gear boxes, which are Ridiculously easy to get, very easy to control in terms of RNG drops through your loot specialisation, are account bound so you can send things you can’t use to characters who can, and are free.

Could you produce.. Some.. Kind of citation for that?

I know WoW already announced they’re making 90s in the store.

In saying that, I don’t think GW2 is ready for that, yet. Even with WoW, the levelling is a lot longer, harder and restrictive to levelling in GW2.

Right now you have little beyond dailies. And missing those puts you waaaaaaaay behind to a ridiculous degree.

Fine, in my subjective opinion the RNG in this game is unpleasant. The only way I can enjoy the game is if I don’t try to get anything. Whenever I set a goal, I’m frustrated, irritated, and annoyed the entire time until I abandon it and go back to faffing about.

I can’t see how that can be good design.

When setting a goal on getting something you should first not try to make it an immediate goal, but rather one to work towards.

You can’t set a goal towards something entirely random. .-.
Unless you set a goal via gold towards an item on the TP.

It seems like a really awkward design that you go Gloves>Shoulder>Head>Gloves>Shoulders>Head>Boots.

At the same time though, it’s too late to change it.
