I wouldn’t be so bothered by it if it wasn’t for a triad of issues I think this has caused;

1. Players who aren’t here right now are fundamentally screwed. And honestly, a lot of people are fed up overall for countless reasons.

2. There is honestly no reason to buy the other two now. None at all. Very very rarely do people prioritize visuals over value. If you can’t get the same results from the Molten. People will put it as second tier. That’s the reality of the situation, unless they create some sort of “Pick-Trans-Stone”.

3. THEY JUST SOLD A kitten OLD PICK less than a month ago. I don’t mind a year, I get that. But really? 3 weeks? That’s just unnecessarily creating buyer’s remorse. Good work on your part , ANet.

For me personally, part of me wants to rejoin and quickly get this stuff while it’s around. Even though I’ll probably leave after.

And part of me feels like saying “Nope. Fix yourself, ANet, and perhaps I may return”. Problem is neither will probably give good results.

I’m still not convinced it’s a problem – if you have the “bonus” home instance nodes you have an endless supply of candy corn, quartz, etc. A mining pick that gives a bonus once in a while is not as much of a big deal as people seem to think.

The only surprising thing is that people are surprised. It’s a business, and they are going to do things that they think will make money. It’s not shocking.

No one has to pay for the one in the instance. And that’s only once a day. I can guarantee as someone who used to do their Node Runs vigorously, that if you clear all the nodes in a day it’s very, very easy to get a large amount of sprockets, assuming one drops every node, or even every two nodes. Plus, keep in mind it gives more incentive to hit nodes below Ori on the way to your Ori nodes. Which only increases the number of sprockets you can have.

Leaving out a bonus feature is NOT false advertising.

Well, its still not something that is allowed in common day marketing iirc, even if the technical term might be something else. It’s still omitting information that could affect purchases, be it for itself or others.

It absolutely is allowed. Omitting unnecessary information from your advertising is perfectly fine and happens all the time.

Uh.
Given that this is the thing that separates This pick from the Molten-Bone picks, this is extremely necessary. It’s like selling a car and not telling them one of the new features. I doubt anyone would put a serious law suite if it’s a good feature, but at the same Time, the feature they failed to include to be the difference between purchasing it and not.

Anet deserves the backlash they get for this item. It’s very nature is pretty much pushing at the edges and boundaries, and they should know better having observed other gaming companies, player opinions on them, and learnt what to and not to do. |:

Why is condition damage intentionally restricted?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seven Star Stalker.1740

Seven Star Stalker.1740

- World bosses are immune to conditions
- Destructible objects are immune to bleeds
- Bleeds, poison and burn only count from the most recent(Or highest damage?) applicant

So during the early days of GW2, I could have passed this off as an oversight or bug, but a year later its still the same way so its evidently intentional. Why?

I think they are scared to touch conditions until they gather more data. Right now condi builds are near useless in most PvE situations, and way too good in WvW situations.

They need to overhaul the entire condition system, but I wouldn’t expect it any time soon.

Can’t say I agree.

Right now, Condition is only good against players who run no anti condition items (Which are getting more viable, with stuff like “Rune of Anti-Toxin”, “Rune of Melandru”, Sigil of Generosity and others).

On a 1v1 situation, depending on the enemy, maybe. Also depending on the class. But on a Zerg level, and even against groups, unless you run “Dire” runes you’ll pretty much get stomped.

Can Guild Wars 2 be considered Pay-to-Win?

It’s P2W but it’s not.

Principally this game can’t be P2W because you can theoretically with enough grind play the entire game without ever needing gem cards. In fact it’s not theoretical, it’s fact (Save for some things, like the Mr Sparkles mini which actually requires you to pay to get it.).

What you have to keep on mind is that this game will be jumping between P2W for as long as Gem-Gold is interchangeable. The day they make it Gems→Gold only will be the closest thing to P2W, if nothing else. Or if they make certain things require payments (Like, Gaia for example has an achievement, which has the highest amount of points granted, but that requires you to use their special payment method subscription thing for two months), because then Rez orbs and such which are exceptionally strong items if used right will be available to cash users mostly, save for the occasional daily.

Ok another brainstorm idea.

What if certain pieces of ascended gear could be crafted and sold on the TP such as gloves and boots?

Chris

I dislike this idea. Its similar to allowing legendaries to be tradeable on the TP. People with thick wallets to turn $$ into gems into gold can purchase their way to BiS…or people with loads of time to farm materials to sell can purchase BiS.

It solves nothing, unfortunately. For me it would be more of salt in an open wound than helping alleviate the problem.

It’d be better that way though.

One debate I’ve seen a lot over ascended armor and weapons is the restricted availability. Keep in mind, that if an individual gets ascended armor, and gear, and trinkets, and maxes their entire inventory, you run the problem of having useless drops because you’ve already fully geared up.

This is a good alleviative to that.

Guild wars 2 IS alt friendly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seven Star Stalker.1740

Putting aside the whole ascended issue given you guys are already dealing with that.

I would say that GW2 has a fair few features that aren’t Alt friendly, and are incredibly punishing/irritating to deal with, though it’s other features are largely quite friendly to alts.

Like the achievements system is good. But then you have the issue of where when you get a back piece you can only use it once, which kinda kils the enjoyment on achievements. Same with weapon skins. Buying two molten weapons is incredibly difficult, especially if they’re the same. And how for example, you have to do story mode dungeons on every character allover again, which is just.. Really irritating.

But other things, are good. Like how dungeon tickets are account bound, and inter accessible via the wallet. Or how PVP rank is account based.

There’s a few things they could probably buff up. I know WvW ranks are going to be account based which is great!

To be fair, Though, having Nightmare, Inquest and Flame Legion doesn’t exactly make sense for other races either.

Those armors are however basically salvaged (and rebuilt) from their respective dungeons.

In some cases. However that doesn’t cause it to make any more sense. I mean, why is a Sylvari wearing the robes of an Inquest Experimentalist? Why is a Charr wearing a bunch of thorns and roots and leaves with sickly fronds?

I can see clipping as an issue but the Sense/Lack of sense argument doesn’t make much of a point here.

This is a falacy because a Zerg with ascended gear is able to do much more of whatever they’re doing than a Zerg without. It’s practically the difference between superior and regular siege weapons. It’s not aesthetics. They’re seriously and significantly better, even if only 10%/whatever it will be after ascended comes out. Skill is important yes, but numbers in stats and groups are devastating let alone other things like bloodlust, morale, and whatever else have you. You may think that’s not the case, but every player capable of doing what they’re doing faster, stronger and quicker is contributing much more effectively to their server, weather you realise it or not. If you have the damage to take out the cannons and burning oil quicker, you’re contributing to your team, if your suppress on the walls is stronger, you’re contributing to the team. If your healing is quicker, you’re contributing to your team. Any stat increase in any shape or form is beneficial to the team from a micro to a macro scale, otherwise why even bother with a stat raise in the first place?

We could say your argument is a fallacy as well..

1) everyone has equal opportunity to make/get ascended gear – if you don’t then that’s your own problem

2) up levels – these are way more disadvantaged than an ascended vs exotic fight. the uplevel will pretty much get instagibbed against a level 80 in full rares, not to mention exotics. But to this day in the last year I haven’t seen a single person complain they have to fight up levels

3) wvw is not meant to be balanced, that’s why it’s 1v1v1

4) if you want a level playing field a net already has one for you – it’s called spvp or tpvp (wvw isn’t meant to be balanced)

5) food – gives a huge advantage to people who can afford it vs those who can’t

Ascended is here to stay. It’s time people should learn to accept that. If anet is to remove ascended gear from wvw they would have to change all of the above as well. Because a balanced sterile environment is important, after all.

1) You do, but it doesn’t change the fact that it imbalances the game. How quickly an individual gets the gear is individually subjective, and considering there’s no realizable method besides crafting, which many people may not like and it goes against the whole idea of play as you wish because there is only one realizable method again to acquire ascended.

2) Uplevels can still work off on NPCs, however in saying that you can’t factor Uplevels in because let alone exotics or ascended up levels more likely than not won’t even have the chance. At least at 80, you can wear ascended if you wish. At level 30-79, even if you wanted to, or even if you theoretically had it, you wouldn’t be able to use it. So mentioning Uplevels is moot.

3) So it’s okay to use “It’s broken” as justification to break something further then? Is it alright if someone breaks your wrist, then breaks the rest of your arm on grounds that it’s already broken? Because that’s the argument you just presented.

4) sPvP is entirely different to WvW, and WvW shouldn’t really be impacted by something that’s PVE orientated, considering they’re two different game modes. It’s not a hard concept to grasp. WvW isn’t equal. But that’s not a reason to make it even less so.

5) Food is food. Different food, different pros and cons. However food isn’t what the game is balanced around rather the opposite. So mentioning that doesn’t really make any difference or any point.

Ascended gear is here to stay, correct. But it doesn’t make it a good thing. And that’s what you fail to understand. Telling me it’s here doesn’t have any effect on anything save for you getting the grand title of captain obvious. However saying that it makes no difference, that it’s insignificant in its effect is a load of kitten excretion because it pumps extra fuel into elitism, which is already a problem in gaming and only amplified by things like gear tiers, and destabilises the PVP environment. WvW is a PVP environment. Be technical about it all you wish, but you’re killing players aswell as NPCs, and players are the active, directive force in WvW, so creating tiers on this kind of an environment is anything but good.

False. Havoc squads can impact the capabilities of a team severely. If your massive Zerg is in EBG then you can have enemies slipping in to take down your keeps very quickly in the borderlands. Taking supplies is always devastating towards holding fortifications, and a small group nabbing frogs or dredge can create a nuisance.

And even then. Why do you think commanders ask for might and boons before a big engagement? Because that extra DPS can devastate a Zerg. Knockback, zone control, and all these things can break up ranks and make a Zerg much less ineffective when you’re blasting your enemy targets allover the place preventing them from stacking in place.

Zerg play is very key, but do not underestimate the small things. Don’t underestimate damage percentages, don’t underestimate extra might, don’t underestimate the power of casting stealth, invisibility, portals, blinds, aegis, and all these things. They can change a battle completely. I for example tend to carry ballista prints so that when my server is capping SMC and the enemy is holding up, we can throw down ballistas at the entrances and use a guardian to keep them trapped inside while we block out their push from the outside and prevent any dead from coming inside. What about tapping keeps to prevent enemy reinforcements from returning as quickly? That’s highly key too.

Seconding this. I’m part of a havoc squad, rebel guild, ‘troll society’ and it’s extremely important to have the best gear available there. We often fight up to 3 times as many enemies (3v9 yesterday, finished them all).

What I think WvW needs:

  • Option 1: Downscale ascended to exotic stats.
  • Option 2: Let us play WvW-Only characters, that can have BiS gear and level 80 without cost.
  • Option 3: Upscale exotic armour in WvW to ascended.
  • Option 4: Delete PvE gear from WvW, allow players to get their PvE skins for free and unlimited from a database.

I feel like your organized havoc squad would still have the same effect on overall PPT if you were running around in all exotics. Organization, teamwork, and experience play a much more significant role than stats.

Against ignorant zerglings we would most probably… against other organised havoc squads that did have exotics… don’t think so.

no offense, but that sounds like a cop-out.

“dang! that other havoc group only beat us because they have ascended!!”

I’m sure if that situation actually happened, there would be a lot more significant things that determined the outcome of that fight. And more importantly, regardless who won the groupvgroup fight, the effect on PPT would still be non-existent or insignificant.

I disagree. It only sounds like a cop out because you think ascended gear doesn’t matter.

in the big picture of WvW, losing a group v group fight because a group had ascended gear isn’t going to matter when your server’s primetime zerg rolls through the borderland that evening.

So everyone keeps telling me. You will never convince me, I will never convince you. One of us in wrong. Meh.

Ascended gear is a pretty significant and desirable upgrade for an individual. But in WvW, an individual is insignificant and undesirable.

Ascended gear is significant on a micro scale but WvW functions on a macro scale, so the overall effects of people having ascended gear, when roughly the same % of the enemy server population has ascended gear, is insignificant.

Ascended ruined all the fair battles that used to happen in wvw! Oh wait, there’s never been a fair battle in wvw, ever.

The only way to make things absolutely fair is make everyone use the same class, same traits, same skills, same food, same groups sizes, no surprise attacks, no terrain advantages etc.

Before ascended, there was never a fair fight. If everyone in the game gets full ascended, there will still never be a fair fight. Get over it.

If someone breaks your thumb, is it alright for them to break the rest of your fingers because your hand is already broken?

Because for many people. This is why they play this game. They don’t care about dungeons. They don’t care about scarlet. They only care about smashing the enemy server. You may argue it’s not as severe as breaking a person’s limb but this is for many people breaking the limbs of the game they play.

I still find it ironic that people use WvW as an excuse against Ascended equipment. They cite statistics, percentages, and such, but fail to remember one important thing… and that is that the one on one encounters do not matter in a mode of play that’s designed around group siege warfare. In the end, in WvW, the server with the biggest zerg wins.

There is no logic.

A 10% increase in power from might stacks is really significant but a 10% increase from gear is not, because might stacks.

In PVE, a 1% increase in DPS from picking the right gear (say having a beserkers ring vs. a knight one) is much more imporant than the optional 10% DPS from getting ascended gear, because zerkers.

I’m not sure what you mean by the first part :L

It’s about money, the whole soulbound item status boils down to money, soulbound items don’t benefit the player in any way, they benefit anet by making players grind for things on alt this means they “play more” which means they are logging in more, logging in more and more likely to buy gems or generate gold inflating the gem to gold value which encourages others to buy gems to sell.

Not really. This stuff isn’t for selling in the TP to begin with. The frustration is you can only have one skin for all the characters you have, which is pretty lame. Crystals won’t multiply the amount of skins though.

Platforming double standards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seven Star Stalker.1740

Seven Star Stalker.1740

Basically it’s because it would trivialize many of the encounters in the game.

Trash mobs are supposed to be trivial. I don’t see your point .-.

Also, getting knocked off a beam isn’t exactly challenging. It’s just frustrating to deal with.

You know, in the five years I played Guild Wars 1, I think I heard the term trash mob maybe once.

When any mob can drop a precusor, no mob is actually a trash mob, and therefore no mob is actually trivial. That’s also part of why downleveling exists.

It just feels too much like an exploit in too many places. All you’d need is a knockback and you’d be set. Mobs that surround places like vistas or jumping puzzles would suddenly be meaningless.

People who come from other games see mobs and trash mobs. I see foes and foes. None of them are trivial to me…and I’m pretty sure Anet didn’t design these mobs as “trash”.

We’re not talking about GW1 right now, so bringing it up is irrelevant and doesn’t provide any point what so ever. There are many things different between this and it’s predecessor – for the good and detriment of the game.

And they can simply alleviate it by removing loot from fall deaths, just like how your armor won’t chip from fall deaths. I’m sure they can figure it out. Even if they didn’t, that isn’t even remotely a reason not to have them unplatformed. What’s the likelyhood of getting precursors from the aforementioned mobs? It’s pretty dam low, I can tell you that much off the top of my head. So I doubt if someone spent all day knocking Krait off cliffs and bandits off mountains that they’d suddenly fill the economy with a dozen new Dusks or Dawns unless they were probably going to get them anyway.

Considering those mobs can be beaten naked I’m pretty sure they’re supposed to be easy to defeat by design. They can make it so that you can’t knock off veterans. That’s fair enough. But the average Risen Knight or random Destroyer troll is easily even less capable than player, in terms of difficulty to deal with. We’re not talking about Tequatl or something. We’re talking about hose mobs you kill like.. 20 a day without even realizing. Seems silly to give them that.

You’re free to check it out yourself, just FYI. She’s a a human heavy in draconic armor (Can’t give anymore details for obvious reasons.)

Black Lion Ticket Scraps

I would personally prefer they completely nuke the droprates of chests, but buff the droprates of the contents and remove things like boosters and temporary tonics from the BLTC.

In general the chances of getting something covetable and desirable are incredibly low, and with most skins you need an enormous amount of scraps to get the skin you want. Think of it this way. If scraps had a 100% rate! it would still take at least $10 unless you key farm them all, but even key farming had time costs. In some cases it’d be way more consuming, like Aetherized skins, so I’m confident people would still buy them.

Really feels kinda bad when you open 25 chests and get a bunch of boosters and like.. 2 scraps.. X: just my opinion, at least.

I found a lot of the pieces on the dulfy page not very skimpy x:

Keep in mind, skimpy armor is subjective to the way one views it.

Like. 75% of the game is pretty good for me.

I’m quite fond of little things, such as how names can have spaces, but some other favorites are music, visualisation and design, andcombat.

Ascended/Legendary Armor

I think they might scrap legendary armor personally. Keep in mind these are my thoughts and this is simply over as to implementation of legendary armor and trinkets.

I’m not going to repeat what everyone else said, just dropping my 2 copper.

Which is the best server for a Aussie player?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seven Star Stalker.1740

Sea of Sorrows still alive and kicking as the unofficial oceanic server still.

Tarnished Coast is just a role play server that every one flocked to.

Yep, everyone flocked to it. You’re 100% right there. But most people don’t RP, so I’m not 100% sure why.

Tarnished Coast is reasonably balanced in it’s productivity and size, IMO. The community is nice, the players are pretty skilled (I remember in WoW there was this big stigma that Roleplayers sucked when it came to gameplay for w/e reason), the productivity is pretty balanced as in there’s a reasonable amount of the playerbase involved in all aspects of the game, and also there’s a large amount of players as a whole.

It’s kinda like how when you hear about WvW, people say go to Jade Quarry, or you want good PVE, go to _ server. But generally Tarnished Coast seems to fit in whenever I’ve seen someone looking for any kind of specific basis to join a server, be it any of the above, or others. It really is overall one of the best servers.

Extreme RNG on Toxic Dye Kits

I don’t even bother with the dye kits lol.

Even if I got one, it’s just abysmally expensive to get multiples of the same dye over a single account. Look at the Charred dye, that’s going for almost 100 gold now.

Kinda lame how paid things are done with RNG. I can understand drop loots.

Ascended items harder to make than Legendary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seven Star Stalker.1740

Seven Star Stalker.1740

It.. Kinda makes sense? I would say legendaries are a safer and more practical way to go, because once you get it, you don’t need anything else. But it requires mor effort too. With ascended though they’re subjective to the same rules as exotics so level caps and any additional gear tiers ANet may add in the future kinda kills off the long term benefit in having an ascended at the moment if you want to think of it from that angle.

Also principally legendaries are at least purchasable. Ascended aren’t purchasable at all, and are tedious and costly.

800 gems for only 2 pieces?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seven Star Stalker.1740

Seven Star Stalker.1740

Why bother complaining about this?

If you like it and think it’s worth it, buy it. If you don’t like it and think it isn’t worth it, don’t buy it. This is not a strange concept, and choices are a good thing to have.

Because if enough people buy it, they will think it is okay to overprice items in the gem store…

And they would be correct, wouldn’t they?

Not really. The dyeability for the pieces is petty terrible. And 400 gold for a lack of dye variety and 1 piece is pretty bad considering you can catch a whole set for 500-800.

Plz reduce Req for iron & soft wood refining

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seven Star Stalker.1740

Seven Star Stalker.1740

You have 5 zones for copper, then 25-40 gives iron (So that’s about 6-8 zones), then 40-50 gives platinum and 6o-70 gives platinum into Mithril. 70+ almost always gives Mithril ore, with only 80’ed zones (4) which have Orilachium, and that’s about 5 nodes a map +/- compared to the 20 or so Mithril nodes.

Iron goes up to at least lvl 50 (Dredgehaunt Cliffs). Platinum and Silver are different since they are not used for weapons, only for Jewlery.

Personally i’m happy with the mats prices, since i like running around gathering much more than doing champ trains for earning money

But that’s what makes it really weird because whilst iron is available to 50, the different types of wood aren’t as much.

Also dark steel says hi :v
