Why is your TL;DR longer than the rest of your post?
This post made my crappy work day so much better.
This is a perfect example of someone not taking the time to talk and listen to NPCs or read the clues on the screen.
Moa horse race lol. Do I get to be one?
Anyway… mini dragon pet?
The Moa race is a betting game taking inspiration from the 9-rings style betting mini-games from the original festivals in Gw1, but with a little more action involved for each round of bets. The bonus: this activity will remain in the game permanently in Lion’s Arch after the Dragon Bash festival ends.
Will I be able to bet Gems?
Note on legality – Gems have no value, and cannot be traded for real money, thus fall out of the realm of real “gambling”.
My Gems are ready for this. When they do release the Faren swimwear, my Charr will stand in LA with pride.
It’s called Speculation. If new Karka armor comes out that requires lots of shells (and end up being in high demand), people will profit. If not, people will lose a lot of money.
These items that you get from FotM or special events are Account Bound. The only time Exotics aren’t bound are when you Forge them or get them as a drop in the open world. Working as intended.
Have tried on Blackgate at all hours and nothing. Every other MMPOG I have seen allows for more than one server. Basically, I can build a character on a server other than my friends’ and play there, and IF there is ever an opening, kill that character off and start over in the small time there is an opening if I am lucky.
That is not much of a solution. I am kinda sorry I spent the money. At least we did not waste another $50 for the wife.
You are allowed to be on multiple servers. Guesting allows you to interact with people on servers other than your home world. But if you wish to WvW on another server, you just have to pay the Gems to transfer. Should you want to represent another server for WvW, you just have to pay more Gems after the wait period is over. A cheaper alternative to this is to delete all your characters, and then you can transfer for free.
Devon for Anet employee of the month award.
WvWing is very profitable. Sell all the drops you get, and you can easily make coin. But I think the +200% MF from Southsun is where the farming should be. Run every event you see on the island, and kill all things that move. Don’t forget your Omnomnom bars and MF gear. You should be getting a lot of green item drops, which you can then sell or Forge for rares.

B) Also, another tweak that would help to eliminate bads roaming in huge groups, would be to make it so that capture points (camps, towers, keeps) only issue a fixed value of XP/world XP which get distributed to players in the capture radius. For example, a supply camp could be worth 5000 points (arbitrary number):
1 person captures this camp, they get 5000 points.
5 people capturing this camp get 1000 points each.
20 people capturing this camp get 250 points each.
50 people capturing this camp get 100 points each.
Thieves can solo cap camps, and to some extent, towers will walls down. That said, I’d love to gain a rank for each and every camp I solo!

Smooth.
I’m glad at least one person got it.
They don’t undo player mistakes. You should just keep it and consider crafting something with it.
I’ve played on both sides of this conversation. I’ve been on the side that crushed the map, and been on the out-manned side getting crushed. The idea to add penalties to WvW just because one server’s population is more interested in WvWing than another is just plain silly. First of all, that would just discourage people from playing (which no company will ever do). Secondly, this type of penalty just says one server is more important than another. Kinda like a referee playing favorites in a sports match.
The fair thing to do is what Anet already implemented, which is to add a buff to the out-manned server. But there’s a fine line on the type of buff someone can get, or else the other server will see the game as “playing favorites” for the opponents. This buff doesn’t give any attack or defense bonus, but puts into play a bonus to prevent costly repair bills, since you know they’re gonna get rolled over. The bonus XP is nice too. It’s rewarding the players for sticking around when the odds are against them.
The things in this thread that make sense is hiding the out-manned icon to opponents, and maybe expanding the roll of Breakout for more NPC help. Servers tend to take advantage of a map when they see that the opponent doesn’t have the numbers to defend. And since NPCs are squishy (not to include Siegerazer), having some extra to help a server with low pop can help to add some fun for both sides. More things to kill for the mega server, and a tiny bit of help for the out-manned group.

If they put a special Cantha gate key at the end of a 100 level dungeon, I’d play it non-stop for days. Or if they made an elite Guild Mission that unlocks it, I’d force my guild to run it until we had access. Even if they put in a “Cantha Gate” in the Gem Store, I’d surely buy it.
Summary – Don’t care how it’s implemented, just do it!
I think having a town clothes t-shirt with a snowflake on it would be nice. I’d proudly wear it.
@OP
The system is working as intended. RNG is RNG. I’m sorry you don’t get good item drops. Keep playing, and one day you’ll get good drops.
I disagree. I do think human nature plays a part, but what will have more success:
A. A group of 5 tries to infiltrate a keep
B. A zerg of 75 tries to infiltrate a keepThe answer is obvious, so that does mean mechanics play a large part. Those mechanics force a zerg strategy. You cannot take an entire castle with 5 players.
FYI – I did it with 3 players total after we broke down the wall with a Treb. And to top it off, I was on my up-leveled Ranger (real level 21 with no Elite). So yes, when you are skilled, you can win.
If Kaineng Oceanics transferred to Maguuma, we can become the next Dragonbrand!
FYI – Playing this game to complete it, SPvP, and WvW requires no grind whatsoever. In other words, I think you’re doing it wrong.
There are also many players who are happy with how the market currently is. Having more currency drop or become available doesn’t fix a market. It makes it worse. A surplus of currency will devalue it, thus increasing prices across the board.
Player demand will determine what players are willing to pay. In the example of Super skins, yes there’s a chance that the first batch may never appear again, so you would assume prices would increase (i.e. Halloween skins). But you also have to remember that there were two ways to get Super skins. 1) Baubles and 2) Chest drops. Because there were multiple ways to get it, the skin wasn’t as rare as you’d think. I can say with some certainty that if the Super skins were only available from end boss chests, the conversation would be completely different.
Going foward, I think Anet should use the term “Third Party Technology” instead of “Third Party Software”. It clears up the misunderstandings with players who hear the word “software”, and don’t know that it covers other things collectively.
But while the game is set up so that anyone can actually make one if they want, only a small portion of the population will achieve this goal.
So then there isn’t a problem here to begin with. No reason to make it harder if you already acknowledge only a portion of people will ever bother to make a legendary.
It’s just my opinion that Legendary weapons should be the rarest of the rare. It’s a great reward for those who take the time to go for it. Knowing a portion of the population will choose not to make one is part of the reasons why it’s rare. Having components that are hard to get also add to the rarity equation. But since the only thing that can be controlled is the components’ availability, keeping them rare also keeps a Legendary rare.
I enjoy owning something rare as a testament to the time I invested into it. I planned on dedicating myself to making it before the servers opened. For myself wanting to remain a “special snowflake”, I understand the push back for it. It’s not like I hate anyone who views me in a low standard.
We’ve all stated our positions on this matter. Before this gets too off track, I’d better as a Mod to lock up the thread.
Gaile, I’d like to also address Thedenofsin.
The term “Third Party Software” covers both software and/or components (i.e. hardware). Here’s the copy/pasta of the section this comes from:
“15. THIRD PARTY TECHNOLOGY
You acknowledge that (i) the Game may contain other software or components that are either owned by a third party or in the public domain, and (ii) NCSOFT has no proprietary interest in such software or components (collectively and each, the “Third Party Software”), and as such, cannot grant you a license to use such Third-Party Software.”
So I saw this and began hitting my head into the nearest wall:
Dangerous New WvW Abilities
Become even deadlier in The Mists with new World vs. World abilities like Burning Oil Mastery or new ranks in Defense Against Guards!Who comes up with this stuff and can you please make them actually play WvW before they do?
1) You never saw a bunch of golems dying in forgotten oil?
There are some funny youtube videos about that.
2) This is an advertisement not a patch note, this is written by an advertisement designer and not by a player/game designer. It contains as many useful information as any other advertisement
I am not sure we should use events of stupidity as a basis for what makes a mastery useful or not.
Even if it is an advertisement, it still represents two new abilities being added that are completely worthless. Each of those abilities represents design/development time that could be better spent on useful aspects of WvW, real changes.
It’s nice that we have you to tell us what’s useful and what isn’t in WvW. It saves us the time and trouble of actually waiting and seeing what gets added.
So you enjoy standing on an Oil can that has nothing to pour onto below because every man and his dog are stood back pelting it (and you) with all incendiary.. now how will oil mastery help.. they are useless beyond belief, so yeah I think the OP has a point.
Unless the new trait line lets you turn the oil into a projectile.
So by this standard, Precursors aren’t rare, they’re just hard to get. And since everyone has access to the materials needed to get one, there should be no Precursor Scavenger Hunt then?
I don’t think I can agree with that logic. Getting a precursor is based on a completely random process based on a low probability so I think the word ‘rare’ can actually apply here, depending on the relative drop rate for it compared to other items of varying scarcity. Legendary isn’t as much rare as is it hard to make simply because it has a predetermined expectation for how many mats you need to craft it, as well as the activities you need to get them. A precursor is a matter of luck, a legendary is more a matter of time.
You do realize that you can’t craft a Legendary without a Precursor, right? So by your own admission, Legendary weapons are rare. And so I agree with you.
Legendary weapons, while possible to be made by any player over time, should stay rare. My opinion is that major crafting materials, like Lodestones and Precursors, shouldn’t get any drop increases. These two item types should be hard to get, and that would make Legendary weapons truly awe inspiring.
Side note – I know it sounds contradicting to say that any player can make a Legendary, and saying that a Legendary should be rare. But while the game is set up so that anyone can actually make one if they want, only a small portion of the population will achieve this goal. Not all players farm CoF or the Union WP temple event. Anet has done a good job with sinks that has players spending their Gold (i.e. Gem exchange).
Experienced WvWers can gain more than a single rank per day. While most may only get 1 chest per day, we’re talking about a new opportunity for thousands of extra Ecto in the world. There are many servers with many people who play WvW exclusively.
I can see two scenarios here, and I don’t know which way the market will go. 1) Ecto prices fall due to more becoming available, thus saturating the market. 2) Ecto prices rise, because WvWers who kept buying them from the TP may slow down their purchasing.
This topic has been beaten to death far too many times already. But I would like to give credit to the OP for not dragging this into a silly “illegal gambling” debate again.
That’s not agreeing with you. Yes, it’s meant to be hard to get; that’s clear from the stuff you need to make it. No, it’s not meant to be rare; it’s an goal open to every player in the game. Clearly, Anet make the methods to get the mats available to everyone to create it. It’s presence in the game is only limited by people’s willingness to make one. If everyone wanted it, then there is no reason that everyone can’t eventually get it on equal grounds.
I don’t believe there needs to be a mechanic ingame to increase the difficulty of getting one. The premise that one is needed to make current owners feel ‘special’ and maintain it’s rarity is rather stupid.
So by this standard, Precursors aren’t rare, they’re just hard to get. And since everyone has access to the materials needed to get one, there should be no Precursor Scavenger Hunt then?
Those complaining about laurels forget the WvW focus dailies we get. If you play a lot of WvW, you’ll get them without any extra effort.
Even though people don’t like it, Laurels is still a pseudo-gating tactic and encourages you to do activities beyond what you’d normally do. Need your last item… oh, a JP, I’ll go do that.
Nope, i don’t get laurels by only doing wvw stuff most of the time. And you only get one each day, which makes the game super-grindy. This is terrible game design. No-one enjoys it and no-one finds it fun. It’s just a chore.
And ascended are also soubound which even makes it more terrible for those who got multiple chars.
Grinding is the reason i leave mmo’s. But i haven’t found any mmo with a better combat system than GW2 yet. So i still play this game. And i’m hoping they will add some other stuff to keep ppl playing other than months of grinding for ascended.
All MMOs have grind in them. GW2 got rid of the mandatory grind. Everything in this game that had “grind” attached isn’t required to play the game. Are dailies required? No. Are Ascended gear required? No. For the longest time, I was WvWing with Exotic gear, which I crafted, purchased, or got as a chest drop.
Remember, all these Ascended gear for WvWing is a bonus. I’m glad the option is there to get stuff that’s only been available to PvE players.
I hope it’s not straight Ectos in chests. At least with rare weapons/armors, there’s a chance to fail the salvage for an Ecto. Either way, I feel really bad for the people who invested in Ectos when they were 35 Silver.
This comes from Colin in the WvW forums. See bolded quote:
Ascended items and infusions both will cost a less than normal amount of laurels, and a badge cost as well. (Ascended accessories will remain laurels + ecto, but with new WvW rank reward chests you’re going to be getting a lot more Ecto!)
Basically, I see this to mean along with the daily Group Events (i.e. dragons, maw, jungle wurm, etc), WvW rewards will be infusing the market with Ectos. Am I reading this correctly? I would love to hear what our resident economist thinks about this topic.
Millenium Old School have just had a major update to there score reporting site that now automatically tracks all scores across all threads live and also has an interactive map that updates every 15 seconds showing who owns what.
http://mos.millenium.org/na
http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/map/694The site offers live score tracking, in-game wvw mapping, score breakdowns and analysis and history match-ups.
Why cant this be done on an official scale? Put an advert or two on the page and it would be a brilliant revenue source as it would get thousands of hits.
It’s funny you should ask this today….With our new API development soft launching today (see the new forum topic at the bottom of the forums) you’ll be able to do just that! Keep your eye out, I imagine a website that works this way will be popping up in the very near future =)
Colin. I think you’re one of the Six in human form.
You’re darned right it is!
Those poor kids getting scammed with their Pokemon Card booster packs. =(
I’m a Yu Gi Oh man myself, but I digress.
All the complaints are due to the fact that the complainers don’t understand that chance does not equal guarantee.
The 891 Karka Shells alone are worth the 100 crates.
I like the idea of having one of the new WvW Infusions to be +25% Arrow Cart damage.
I’ll pay 2,000 Gems for Rytlock in a Faren speedo…
I fail to see how its a scam?
False ideas are put into people’s heads and somebody benefits from this monetarily. It’s the functional definition of a scam.
People do not willingly throw money away. They are convinced one way or another that it’s a good idea. They are persuaded to make a choice that is detrimental to themselves. Scam.
This is also the definition of gambling as a whole. Ergo, all gambling is a scam, right?
Is fighting monsters in Orr for RNG drops included in this definition?

You most likely deleted the items or salvaged them accidentally. That’s the most common reasons why you can’t find them. Anet doesn’t undo player mistakes.
You are wrong, they weren’t accidentally salvaged, destroyed, etc. Or you are trolling.
I have described in detail what happened, your disbelief, is shared by me, which is why I post here, to share my experience with items disappearing AND how the gw2 support handles the incidents.
How can someone implement a game, where you transfer a stack of items from your inventory to your guild stash, end then the stack is just gone. puff.
Or implement a transmute method, that doesn’t work.
Someone from your Guild withdrew the items in question, thus the reason why they are missing.
I don’t understand how playing for hours on end to farm T6 mats is considered “easy mode”. Asking for free Precursors and more T6 drops seems to fit the description better.
So, KN is a cesspool of bile and hatred and the sooner they fall to T4 the better. Got it. Yet Maguuma is always poked at for having a “malicious” community. Tbh, Mag has one of the best, if not THE best, WvW communities of any server. All the guilds know each other, are friendly with each other, and work together. It’s part of the reason why we’re one of the more stable servers in the game.
That, and we have Commander Cody to lead us to victory in EB!
@OP
All servers are high pop or full already. It’s just that some people would rather PvE than WvW. So the solution to your problem is to go to LA, and recruit.
It’s all up to the players. If you wanna undercut by 1 Copper or 1 Silver, feel free to. But the smarter market players will always try to maximize profits. Plus, the TP is like PvP. It’s a competition between to business people trying to outdo each other. Winning by 1 Copper is a great feeling!
If you have a minimum acceptable price to sell the item at then why don’t you just list it at that price?
Why do people haggle? Why don’t people just sell everything at cost?
Why can buyers see other people’s orders? Shouldn’t it be a black box? Shouldn’t the buyer have to take a chance and offer a reasonable price that they want to buy at rather than always trying to snipe the absolute minimum?
Being able to +/- by just 1c on both buying and selling is a broken system. Being able to do so on buy orders without any risk at all is even worse. Because of this it’s far too easy to abuse buy orders. For example, a simple program written in a few minutes can completely dominate and always be the highest buy order for the desired item. It’s the average joe that’s getting abused the most here, but they don’t know it. At the very least, undercutting should require a minimum difference.
“1c” undercutting doesn’t work in real life because to get that sale, the buyer has to put in effort, which will most likely cost far more than what you would save. If ArenaNet wanted to be complex, they could sort of simulate this by having different trading posts for servers, regions and cross region. Buyers would then have to shop around and pay a fee when going outside of their server and again for outside of their region. This would add needless complexity however when the goal is to simply allow people to buy and sell items.
No idea what you’re getting at. Undercutting and overbidding by 1 Copper has made me tons of money. It’s a fair system, because it puts the decisions of how much to buy and sell things for with the players.
But, to make you happy, I admit that sometimes I’ll increase that to 2 Copper. Sometimes I can be generous with my flipping.
It is meant to be hard to get.
Hard to get = rare. Thanks for agreeing with me!

Anet Gaile Gray wrote:
>I do also need to point out that items disappearing would be incredibly unusual.1) That is not true.
This is not true. And it is not unusual. I have lost a couple of items, and didn’t report it because the items in question weren’t valuable (less than a couple of silvers).
2) We lose stuff regularly and gw2 support says sorry but bugger off.
But I just lost stacks of crafting materials transferring them to the guild stash. And if you contact support they reply ‘sorry but we can’t do anything about it’.
I also lost an exotic weapon AND a transmutation crystal while trying to transmute a fractal weapon skin. At the time of the transmute, the game automatically selected the stats from the exotic (pow/prec/crit) but the finished result had NO stats. Only the sigil got transferred to the fractal weapon skin.
If you contact support about this they reply ‘sorry but we don’t have the tools or know how to restore ‘individual items/whatever’ to your account.
3) Is anet incapable of restoring the items you lost
Of course they aren’t. Several of my guild mates have gotten gold refunded to their account. If you lose a stack of materials, then anet can simply give you the gold to buy it again. If you lose a weapon or whatever, then anet can simply give you the gold to buy it back. So, either support is lying to me, or my guild mates are lying when they tell me they have gotten gold lost on the TP returned to them.
3) What else
Is it legal to refuse to restore items that disappears from your characters/bank account/guild bank? You can buy gems for money, then buy gold for gems, then buy items for gold. I doubt that gw2 even have the right to refuse to restore lost items in any western country.
The game is about collecting items, so when items disappears, its not just a ‘normal bug’ like ‘my game crashed’, ‘my graphics looks strange’, ‘I got stuck in a wall’, ‘The brazier didn’t light up when I lit it’, etc and so on.
Losing items in this kind of internet service AND having a support that simply replies ‘sorry but bugger off’, is unacceptable.
You most likely deleted the items or salvaged them accidentally. That’s the most common reasons why you can’t find them. Anet doesn’t undo player mistakes.
All this blaming is simply what Sigmund Freud called “displacement”. Someone knowingly made a bad choice, but took the chance anyways. Due to the failure of the choice, a person experiencing humiliation and shame is directing it elsewhere in order to cope. He then lashes out at others offering help, further protecting the ego from damage.
At least, that’s what I learned in my college psychology classes.
Think of this like “premium content” for those who put in the time and effort. So if your guild can’t meet the requirements, perhaps you should join a larger one that can? You can have multiple guilds (up to 4 I think). Find one that’s willing to let you rep for special events like the Guild Missions.
