Seems this concept is quite difficult for some to understand. I’ll try to make it as simple and clear as possible: One action = one keystroke.
The reason why Anet employees “beat around the bush” is because situations are different. If they were to give a straight yes or no to something, someone else might misinterpret it and try to apply or twist Anet’s words to fit their thoughts.
In the example of macroing the process of looting, picking up loot constantly by pressing a single button once (automation) is against the rules. But since they added the AOE loot feature, now there’s no excuse for using such a program.
By the way, complaining that the built in auto-attack feature break Anet’s own rules, that’s beyond silly. It’s like saying the government doesn’t follow it’s own Constitution.
Just to give a nostalgic touch to everyone’s day… =)
This makes me sad. Time to reinstall GW1, just so I can hear the soundtrack while I walk the map.
Quoting for Truth.
Some very very very vocal minorities in this Forum want all of us to believe that HOM was only achievements that started and should have stayed in a in a “different” game. But those people are astroturfing every thread about it, and directly contradicting the entire Reason that Anet added the HOM. This is the truth, we got nothing out of these efforts in GW1. From the very beginning of 2009, it was only ever about carrying over our achievements from that game to this one. That’s Anet’s own words on it.
People who don’t like that… well… dunno what to tell them, except that maybe they should have done more research before buying this game, huh? I mean if they’re so hardcore about achievements, you’d think they would have read a little about past achievements to know what they were gettting themselves into, right?
Preach on bro. But still, there are those who don’t understand the reason for the Hall of Monuments. So I shall provide proof.

It’s basically the same game. GW1 and GW2 are connected by lore. GW1 HoM is in fact a part of the GW2 map, since it’s the same Tyria we’re talking about. So the counter point of “this is a different game” is invalid.
You do realise that it is quite literally a different game?
I bought GW2, have never played GW1, and currently can’t… without going out and buying another game. Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are different games, and saying they’re “basically the same game” doesn’t make it so.
Clearly they’re similar games, made by the same company and set in the same world. But they’re so obviously not the same game that claiming they are makes me think you’re trolling (although the whole “give me a precursor now pls” thing is another hint in that direction I suppose!)
Having never played GW1, I can understand why you don’t realize that it’s the same game world. The Hall of Monuments was made so you could transfer your past achievements to the current GW2 world, 200+ years in the future. The day that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 has a continuous lore that’s connected by a mechanism that allows you to transfer your scores between games, then your argument would hold some value.
What if Anet is planning on turning Badges into an Exotic tier drop? People would be welcoming this gift at that point.
The strange thing everyone who brings this ‘problem’ up seems to assume is: “you played GW1 so you automatically have 500 freeby points”…
Hah! I finished all three campaigns and EotN, plus played a few months extra and I’m not even at 20 out of the 50 HoM points. The people kicking up sand assume it’s all kittens and giggles…
Seriously, GW2 players think they know what grind is. Go grind the insane amount of points you need to get reputation titles. Have a look what it takes to grind the weapons and prestige armors needed. Go battle the hard mode dungeons and the realm of Torment.
If you knew what it takes to get those 500 APs, then you’d understand those players earned it. And to compare the effort to gain the 500 AP from HoM to what it takes to get 500 in this game… it’s a joke.
I got the Drunkard title before you could spam it. That was true grinding. =)
Exactly! I got the explorer title before there was textmod or players sharing maps to compare. We had to kill every single creature in every single map in the original game and all the expansions in hard mode. We had to do every mission and every bonus within those missions in both standard and hard mode. If the whiners think it is so easy, then let them pay the $40.00 for all 4 games and get the titles themselves.
I got my dungeon titles after the shadow form nerf, HAH!
But seriously, the drunk title took some dedication before they changed it. /bow Now tell me you did it without disabling post-processing effects and I’ll be really impressed!
Naturally. =) I always found it fun to have a wavy screen while running UW on my Necro with a fellow 55 Monk. XD
I also got my Drunkard and Ale Hound titles while doing full Underworld runs with a blurry screen… on my Monk healer. My party would get mad at me when Dhuum nearly wipes us.
Your case proves that point that a player can dispute a ruling, and it can be corrected. But again, it’s up to Anet. Should another player report it in the future, it can be re-reviewed and put up for change again. Nothing is set in stone, as situations can change. Just like how my name could be a bad slur in the future. But each situation must be taken on it’s own merits and treated separately. We can’t say “Player A had his ticket overturned, therefore Player B deserves the same courtesy.”
He’s asking for a precursor for every 50/50s…which atm is anywhere up to 600g. I thought this is the idea you were supporting.
I only suggested it as an option. It’s not necessary to do, but if Anet did, my argument is that it would be well deserved.
I dont plan on doing any of the achievements but it still aggravates me that people find this ‘fun’… it just saddens me is all.
People needs a challenge. A challenge is when something is not always is working your way and you have to think outside the box and in different ways to succeed.
You will not win the first time, and maybe not the second time either.
Farzo, do you mind if I were to use your image when discussing other topics? It’s so simple and to the point.
It’s basically the same game. GW1 and GW2 are connected by lore. GW1 HoM is in fact a part of the GW2 map, since it’s the same Tyria we’re talking about. So the counter point of “this is a different game” is invalid.
It’s fine that people think we don’t deserve credit for 50/50. It’s fine that people think the current credit we got for 50/50 is reasonable. And it’s fine if people think we should get extra. That’s what this discussion is about. I’m ok with whatever direction Anet goes. But I will voice my opinion that people who put in the time to max their HoM are worthy of additional praise.
The problem here is that each person has his or her own definition of what’s “offensive”. While some people may think “Two Hand Touch” is ok, I respect the fact that some might think otherwise. Another example would be the “N” word. People outside of the US might not see that word as a problem, as it’s just a legit translation of the word “black” or “dark”. But since it causes pain to a certain group of people, it’s fully understandable as to why it’s not allowed. That’s why, from what Gaile has said, the Support team discusses certain names among themselves, and if there’s a consensus that it’s bad, it’s bad.

It works both ways. Anet has ways to detect Gold Sellers who mail the money, and Gold Buyers who accept it. One should not assume how their system auto-detects RMT transactions, as Anet will never tell us how it works.
Anet has every right to look into an account, and process a name change for any name that they deem to be inappropriate. All it takes is someone to make the initial report. If a GM only looks at one inappropriate name, and not others, that player can consider himself to be lucky. However, if more players report the other names, that could lead to more lengthy bans (i.e. 2 strikes, 3 strikes, etc). The player could be considered even luckier if the GM looks at all the inappropriate names, and only issues one strike for them combined.
Players also have the right to dispute the ruling, but that must be done directly with Support, and not on the forums. Do remember that this is their game, and if they feel a certain name is worthy or unworthy, we players have to accept that fact.
Important tips:
-Learn the best spots to place bombs. Don’t place them out of nowhere or in suspicious spots. Place them on lightning pads or narrow corridors.
That must have been YOU who knocked me off the pad when I landed last nite… Well played my friend. I’ll get you yet!
Sadly yes it is. Which is silly. If my friends suddenly got a bunch of ap I would be happy for them. I wouldn’t say “well that’s not fair, I want those rewards too”. Simple enough really, go earn them.
Are you telling GW2 players to go out and buy GW1 so that they can remain competitive in GW2? Don’t you realize how absurd that sounds, to tell us to buy another game?
Technically, it’s the same game, as both are connected by lore. For those who played GW1, and connect it to GW2, your new characters are descendants from your previous.
I got GW1 1 year before GW2 came out. Played for around 4months (Sept ~ Dec 2011)
Got 30/30 on my account.
Helped g/f get 25/30 on her account.
Helped 2 more friends get 15~20/30 HoM.
I had fun.In 4 months. I didn’t even log that many hours…I work 9-5.
I’m 2300 hours into GW2 with 9.1k achieve, 9 lvl 80 chars including all professions each with 50%~100% map completion, R25 PvP, L50 FOTM, etc, yet I don’t have a precursor. I’m having fun.
Pretty sure I could 50/50 my gw1 account in a fraction of that amount of gameplay time if not less. You wanna show max dedication to guild wars? Buy gems to convert 600gold. You’ll have your precursor that way. Otherwise, just have fun.
Oh I already got my Precursor and Legendary. I don’t need another. My suggestion was merely that, a suggestion. All my 50/50 brethren would stand to benefit from a bonus such as this. Again, it’s not necessary or anything, but would be a nice extra gift. Also, if a free Precursor was given to all 50/50 players, it wouldn’t be considered “entitlement”, since it would be deserved.
On a side note, it’s funny how you think it’s easy to max the HoM title. It’s like saying winning the World Cup is easy, since you only have to kick a ball into a large net more than the other team. The fact that you don’t have it maxed is proof enough that it’s a little too kittence you attempt it, you’ll finally understand how great a feat it is, and then you’ll definitely entertain my suggestions as being legit and fair.
A special emote is a wonderful idea. Another player brought it up, and it’s definitely something Anet should consider.
Precursors would be an extra nice reward. But I only brought that up as an option. That way, there wouldn’t be a need to have a Scavenger Hunt.
Having any type of rewards from HoM means you actually worked hard for it. So in turn, you are indeed deserving of extra points. Gw2 is connected to GW1 in terms of lore. Makes perfect sense for your current character to enjoy some love from the past.
GW1 is currently well polished, with balances being done over the years. You can hop in and experience the wonder and joy that started it all. Best of all, it’s pretty cheap! Buy the game, and EotN, and work on your HoM. Once you do, you’ll appreciate the perks you get in GW2.
I had a hard time for the first four runs. I kept getting 9th to 12th place. BUT, then my fingers finally got a feel for the mechanics. First place on the the 5th run.
This game takes skill. Knowing when to use your defense and offense is key. Tip – try attacking someone while they are in mid super jump, and watch them fall.
There is no “entitlement” for something that is deserved. In this case, the proper term for it would be a “reward”.
But back to the point at hand. Having the bonus points for HoM is awesome in and of itself. I’m just suggesting that people with maxed out 50/50 could get a little bit extra. This idea is no different than getting your Quartz node for doing 16/16 Bazaar achievements.
Clearly YOU didn’t play GW1, those achievements are most certainly worth 50 points. These achievements we have in GW2 are child’s play compared to the GW1 achievements.
The dedication and loyalty of GW1 vets is a big part of why GW2 exists. I think that’s worth the new value. (One whole gold, wowee!)
Amen.
I personally feel that HoM should have more bonuses. There’s a thread in the Suggestion forum for just this topic:
Just some background information on the OP. He had a previous thread where he wanted the drop rate of charged lodestones nerfed. Why? Because he had his Legendary made and wanted to deny others their Legendary so he could feel more special.
this thread where he asks for the charged lodestone drop rate to be nerfed
I see you haven’t lost your sense of entitlement OP. First you want to make it harder for other people to get a Legendary after you got one, now you want extra rewards for playing some other game. Somehow I’m not surprised to see this thread from you.
(50/50 in HoM and GWAMM myself)
I was wondering how long before someone attempted to bring this up.
Setting aside your informal fallacies, there’s a difference here. Players with a sense of “entitlement” want free stuff for doing nothing. HoM 50/50 was earned, thus it’s not entitlement if you actually deserve it.
Getting 50/50 in GW1 is NOT DIFFICULT. It is just time consuming.
It’s quite difficult when you have a full time job, a family, and HoH ganking duties with the guild. So it ended up being like…. say…. doing the Clocktower puzzle all day, everyday, for a year.
Or Anet could put it for 8,000 Gems?
Greedy or not, 50/50 is an achievement that was very hard to get. Precursors are very hard to get. It would make sense if Anet were to magically mail a random Precursor to everyone with 50/50. An extra 500 bonus (1,000 points total) for completed HoM achievement works well too.
alcopaul did come out with a nice suggestion. 50/50 players could get some bonus emote that’s exclusive to them. Maybe something like /gw1, and a giant snowflake drops down with a sign that says “Just too good”. That would be the ultimate vanity bonus.
Until you’ve tried to obtain the 50/50 HoM achievement, you have no idea how hard it is. And once you realize how hard, and how many years it takes to get, you can’t argue against any extra bonus. Again, I’m not begging for anything extra. If Anet agrees and gives us something, great! If not, that’s ok too. It would be nice to get another bonus, and well deserved in my opinion. Kinda like when you got that Pact weapon for beating the Dragon. We didn’t need it, but it was a nice extra shiny.
RNG is RNG. I got 2 Dragon tickets with 300 chests opened. Some get a Precursor with a few MF runs.
I can understand and respect your opinions. But I did put in a lot of hours to score my 50/50. I did it with the expectation that we would get free stuff in GW2, which we did. And I had fun doing it. But I’m talking about a bonus for maxing it out. Why should we get a bonus? Getting all 50 points in HoM not only shows dedication to the game, but also the fact that we did purchase each and every expansion set. 50/50 shows mastery of the game, so perhaps our characters in GW2 should be placed on a higher tier.
As a loyal player who continues to support the game with constant Gem purchases, I can live with getting the nice 500 point gift Anet gave. But I’m speaking broadly for all us special snowflakes who poured their soul into GW1. I’m not begging for any extras. Just wanted to let the Devs know that we love this game, and a bonus on top of the bonus would be super sweet.
Note – some of you know me for standing up to players who feel entitled to free stuff. My critics may try to use that argument against this thread. But the key difference here is that 50/50 does deserve the 500 points. And any extra bonus wouldn’t diminish that glory one bit.
I would first like to thank Anet for providing us GW1 players with the nice bonus to our HoM achievements. It was stated by Anet that our GW2 characters would share in the glory of our GW1 ancestors, so this change is a welcome sight.
But I would discuss a possible bonus for those who actually maxed out our HoM. Getting 50/50 is a feat that took many many years, and getting a bonus for that in GW2 would be outstanding. I think an additional 500 achievement points for players with 50/50 could be acceptable.
I understand the argument that GW2 is a different game, and that this would punish current players who didn’t play GW1. But on the opposite side of that coin, it’s us hardcore GW1 players who paved the way for the current game we all know and love. The time invested in getting our HoM filled up is legendary. And since these two games are connected by lore, it makes perfect sense to not only get points for achievements in the current game, but also extra points for the loyalty and dedication we displayed.
An alternative to this would be, dare I say it, a free Precursor for all whom made 50/50? I did mention that our feats are legendary. So why not a gift to showcase this legendary status? It would also show Anet’s love for us!
Let’s open this discussion! The last update has shown it’s possible to make adjustments to the point standings. Any additional points or freebies would be the icing on the cake!
That food buff is terrible and overpriced.
They are priced at a point where people actually pay for them. So they can’t be overpriced if they sell. Remember, item prices are player set. So if you’d like to try and manipulate the prices down, you’ll have to sell the same item for far less, and hope you have enough supply to offset demand.
*puts on straw hat
Just like how Ford overprices their Mustang car. Poor people like me can’t afford Mustangs, and have to settle for a Focus instead. So too are luxury items that grant you unlimited specific mini game access. People can’t afford to pay 100 Gold, therefore it’s unreasonable, regardless of the fact that it’s optional content that can be accessed for free through other means.
=)
Spies vs forum warriors. Who’s gonna win? :P
uhhhhhh……wrong forum?
It was an FA vs Mag comparison. :P
But but… what about Kaineng?
That’s nice that they got our money. What more important is that they KEEP getting our money. I can tell you this, though, I am definitely not going to recommend anything NCSoft to my friends after all the crap I’ve put up with and seen and unless they come up with some good deals, I am not buying anything else from them. I don’t want my friends spending money without knowing the disappointment they will be encountering.
Both companies don’t know it yet, but NCsoft and ArenaNet are the downhill slopes of lost customer loyalty and negative word-of-mouth advertising.
It’s OK if you choose not to spend money. I buy enough Gems to cover the both of us (and then some) on a monthly basis. If they come out with more chests, I’ll keep buying. When the bottom line is looked at, they’ll continue to see a success.
Ah that feel of opening a chest, not knowing if you’ll ever get that rare item you always wanted! It’s so addicting!
Is this one of those times where TC posts against things that never happened?
They are a really strong RP server. This probably happened in one of their make-believe fantasy bars in Divinity’s Reach.
Congrats on that.

I’m glad America is #1. But alas, this thread as gone way off topic. The OCD inside me just wanted everyone to post correct dates in the Match-ups forums.
Sorry sorry. What I meant was that English was the office language of the forums, and in my head, English is American. I feel silly now.
Can’t wait for them tears of frustration~
Zomorros only sheds tears of joy when you dance for him. That’s not to say it’ll increase your odds.
My mistake. We look at the first numbers as the Month date. I was quite taken back as to why everyone was posting as “May”.
Although, simplifying it to American standards would make things a lot easier. The forums are already in American language anyways.
It’s “player demand” that will determine if your item is sold. So if someone feels 188 Gold is a good deal, they’ll buy it. There’s no guarantee that it’ll sell at that price, nor is there a guarantee that someone else won’t undercut you, and place their Jormag’s Needle for less.
Hey guys. Just a heads up. A lot of people seem to be putting the wrong dates for this week’s matchups. 05/07 means May 7th. You should update all the threads to the correct “07/05” date (July 5th), as to not confuse the forums.
I freely throw money at Anet because I love this game. In return, they provide me with Gems to use as I see fit. It’s a loving relationship we have!
Best of luck to you. Don’t forget to /dance before you start. Zomorros is always watching you, and enjoys a bit of entertainment.

In a game like this, which is like every other MMO, customer loyalty is what pays the bills. If an honest customer loses an item that has no value (other than to the customer) and costs nothing to replace,
There is a cost. It’s the salary and time of the the customer support rep who would need to manually go into your single account, and research. Now multiply that by thousands, if not tens of thousands.
So it would be bad business practice to do it for one person, because then they’d be obligated to do it for everyone else. And that’s when it starts to cost a lot of man-hours.
This might be a technical issue, not an account issue. Others have experienced similar due to lag. I suggest moving this to the Tech Support forums.
You ask a simple question that requires a complicated answer.
It all depends on how you price the item, and what the demand for the item is. The quickest way would be to fill a Buy Order already listed. If you wish to put it up on the regular listings, your item can possibly sell quick, or it could take weeks/months if there’s competition who undercuts your prices.
I’m surprised you didn’t bring up “entitlement”
I’ve talked about this a lot in the past. While it’s human nature to want much for little, MMOs will always have the vocal minority that wants cheaper or free stuff. These players feel “entitled” to it on the assumption that they paid for the game, so they’re owed something. That’s when they complain or question why something is priced differently from what they personally feel it’s worth.
The Gem Store prices currently are not set in stone. There have been numerous sales that give nice discounts on a variety of items, including Black Lion Keys. But do remember that everything in the Gem Store is completely optional. And when a player does want these optional items, you have multiple ways of purchasing them: Gold to Gems exchange, or out right Gem purchase.
If not mentioned before, there is a nice article that points to this thread.
Hope restored?
Possible Cantha. Possible new character class. Possible new maps.
