Yup, just like real life, we get hammered by the taxman, we get hammered for vat.
And you can’t get away from being hammered in an MMO.
Stuff I hate most is account bound, because it just fills my slots, is totally useless and I can’t sell it, why not Anet.
It’s really REALLY annoying to be struck dumb when your tring to organise a DE, just because you pinged a couple of WP’s.
And then suddenly it’s like you disconnected……….
Gold sellers seem to get around the filter without any problems.
Was a bit, not now………………… just do my dailies.
Iv’e never done any either, reading the forums here, and as a Ranger, I feel if I don’t “conform” to what they want, I’m going to get kicked a LOT.
Really not fun, so probably more content I won’t be bothering with.
2500+ hrs and over 5500ap best I’ve ever got was a exotic.
Same for me………………… just pretty much all junk.
pets are one of the few things in GW2 that work flawlessly. heck i wouldn’t say no to some extra buffs though.
Oh man! Thanks for that.
I needed a good laugh this morning! You can be dismissive if you want to be but i am completely serious. This very well may be the first time I ever defended Anet on anything. 99.99% of the time the pets work how they are supposed to work. They draw agrro on the mob I attack.
I can totally understand if your a dungeon runner and want a more permanant type of stow pet function. However to say pets are broken is absurd. You think pets are a problem? Roll a mesmer see how you like clones. Up until they fixed minions they were a mess too.
Pets need to work everywhere, not just in low level PVE.
As ArenaNet adds more and more content, the pets become more and more useless.
Even Anet have more or less said the pets are broken and won’t be fixed anytime soon, if ever.
Are we actually playing the same game here ?
Nice, but they already said the pet is broken and won’t be fixed anytime (ever) soon.
So much conflicting information here, “I ran it solo on my (Insert prof here) and didn’t die once”, “2 of us did it and killed all the champs”, get with the zerg, get a 5 man party and so on and on.
Just saying……………
There are a LOT of really terrible players in this game…
I’m stating as matter of fact: 2 people are enough to do the entire tower, with champions, without many issues provided both people know how to play decently. You can do it with more, but 2 are enough.
1 might be a bit too hard because some champions have mechanics that make soloing them quite difficult (for example, the spider wrapping you in the “cocoon” thing). 1 is doable if none of the “roadblock” champions spawn as champion (instead spawn as veterans), or if you’re lucky enough for all the aforementioned “roadblocks” to be open.
People claiming you need 5 or 10 people, or whatever, are just bad players that don’t know what they’re doing. Yes, the more decent players join in the easier it is (for the most part), but 2 are enough to do everything.
OK got that, two people are enough to do (Kill) all the champs, elites and trash mobs climbing the tower.
I’ll look forward to trying that tonight, but not much…………
Edit……….
Some video here would be good…………

“As always, you are free to play—or not play—any released content. If you choose not to, make peace with your decision and move on.”_
I think you’ll find that they would prefer people to “play” the content, rather than just skip it.
If people find the content too hard or frustrating, they will likely “move on” to another game.
There’s a happy medium to be found here, and I don’t think ArenaNet has quite reached it yet.
Funny how the point of this thread seems to go over most peoples heads.
Yeah I noticed that as well, but it was to be expected……….

“I think the learn to play card is played way too often. I know exactly how to play this game, but that doesn’t mean I should like OP effects we see in the tower: massive respawn rate, elite foes when there’s only player around, massive AoE without any place to hide. I think it’s a cheap way of “increasing” difficulty and, at least for me, absolutely not fun. And the average player might be able to deal with two of those effects, but a third one might just confuse them so much, that they’ll start making stupid mistakes they wouldn’t make during normal gameplay.”
Yes I have to agree with this, there’s only so much you can do to combat all the stuff going on, often trying to get through a trail of mobs left by other people.
I don’t find it fun, or clever of Anet, and agree it’s just cheap “content” if you can even call it that.
The design of the tower is brilliant, but there’s no real tactics, it’s just a mess of mobs, mines and overlapping red circles, when you can even see them.
Anet can do better, lets have stuff where tactics and planning come into it, like UW and FOW in GW1.
Edit…………….
Just seems every post I read when people say they are having problems or don’t like the content is the same, L2P, zerg it, get in a party, guest to another server, I killed the champ/elite/everything solo, I ran solo to the top in 10 minutes with my level 63 (Insert prof here).
(edited by Solid Gold.9310)
I’d like to get my mask, but to be honest I’ve just about had enough of the tower.
I’m fed up with being pushed, pulled, immobilized, blown up, ignored when I’m downed and trampled over when I’m dead.
I’m not really keen on this sort of content, it’s not fun, there’s little skill involved (Whatever you lot say that claim to have solo’d it) and it seems like cheap content to me.
Have you updated your drivers.
Sounds like it could be an overheating problem, possibly……..
Sounds weird, I hardly ever fail gathering.
Maybe your pet is keeping you in combat or something.. keep it on passive and stow when possible and see if that helps.. idk.
Well I have my pet on attack all the time, so I don’t think it’s that either.
Again… this isn’t you. Just because something works for you doesn’t mean it’ll work for everyone else. There is more than one way to find a solution to these types of things.
I’ll actually argue for making pets passive as well. Sometimes the best way to survive is to drop combat as quick as possible, and it’s tough to do that when your pet is set to attack everything that targets you. The pet will change targets and they’ll continue to follow the pet, keeping you in combat by proximity. I usually manually target stuff I want the pet to tank, which works a hell of a lot better than “go get ’em, Rover” in a crowd of undead.
I have never even considered having to “Drop combat” as you put it, I just go in, press “F” and gather, I just ignore the mobs that might be around me, and if I’m in combat mode (Weapon drawn) or not.
You don’t have to drop combat to press F and gather the material.
And @ a poster farther up, he didn’t say he was dying while collecting.
Anyway there’s some good idea’s to get you going, let us know how things go so we can help others who may have this problem.
Sounds weird, I hardly ever fail gathering.

Well I have my pet on attack all the time, so I don’t think it’s that either.
Yeah me neither. I just walk up and sit there with everything hitting me, completely ignoring it before running off to the next thing. Consider speccing slightly more defensively when you’re gathering.
I’m pure DPS spec, I don’t think a defensive spec will make a difference.
Everyone who responds will have their own favorite pets or experience where a certain pet shines; I’m really just looking for a pure numbers chart.
I don’t think there will be any pure numbers chart, who know’s what the pets doing, nobody can say what percentage of damage the pet should do, sometimes the pet will sit there doing nothing on 80% health (God knows why), sometimes F2 doesn’t even bother, sometimes the pet is away with the fairies.
Good luck with trying to work anything out…………..
That’s funny because I never ever get a gathering failure, and I don’t bother clearing anything………
Strange.
It’s the lord, he hits like a truck because he is a kitteng lord and we are only peasant.
Wait up, aren’t we supposed to be hero’s, I’m pressing “H” to bring up my “Hero” panel, are you pressing “P” to bring up your “Peasant” panel ?
At least in Claw if you die people will res you. In the tower if you stop to res someone your dead too. The revive orbs are useless as others will run mobs on you as you res and your dead again.
When I read this I understod directly what kind of strategy OP uses… “If you stop to res someone”, well that means you are running through the floors and pulling every mob in the area and this tower is circular wich makes agro last longer so you will have lots and lots of fun following you, offcourse you will die no matter how much armor you got.
There is many strategies to compleating this tower, but running is not the best one if you don’t know exactly what to do and save your skills to dodge and block but on the other hand running through could also ruin it for other players struggling to fight their way through the tower. I mean why are the mobs there? Is this an obstacle course where coming to the top in 10 seconds earns you a gold medal? There isn’t even a achievement to get by running.
I have compleated everything in the tower and most of it was a pushover, the only hard part in the tower is that darn spider.
But anyway through my experience fighting your way through the tower is the best way becouse there is mostly others also figthing in the tower and people will catch up and in the end you are a big neat group who can help and res eachother if you die.
Where does this run run run mentality come from? Is it from the dungeons? I hope Anet will adress this for every content in this game with more doors or something.
Yeah fight your way through as everybody runs past you, then die and watch as everybody runs past you trampling over your dead body.
That’s a very stupid thing to say, is it not?
“I die becouse others run so I have to run to! (So then you will be another one who runs and kills the ones who struggles with fighting their way up)”
Very rarely happens, or atleast for me.
Most people run solo or duo and will en up having trouble and with the help of others they will realize that running is not a sulution.
So instead of falling to the bad idéa and run yourself and whine on forums that it’s to hard, teach others to actually enjoy the content and fight instead of just rushing through everything.
If people are fighting and there’s a few of them then I fight with them, if they are running past then I’m going to tag on because if I stay and fight and get every mob dragged onto me them I’m going to die, nobodies going to stop and res, and fall behind and die.
Doesn’t sound very stupid to me, sounds the logical thing to do.

“The Nightmare Within”.
More like “The Living Nightmare” for Rangers.
And more proof that content being added renders the pet utterly and totally useless.
The behavior of players is shameful. Only a few will try to help. But most will just let everyone die if it will help them to get to top of tower.
It’s pretty difficult to stop and help somebody (However much you want to) if you know your going to die as well.
People dont want to help even if they can. And if i realy cant ress someone completely a will ress at least a little so others behind me can finish it.
I would like to help, and I do res if it’s in a reasonably safe area.
This really doesn’t add to any “team” play when a big zerg rushes up the tower leaving a trail of dead people behind.

I give up, rubbish, your healths forever dropping, heal skills take too long to regen, it’s just insta gib time and time again…………….
Just a massive gold sink and way too frustating.
I feel bad running past people that are downed, but what can you do, stop and your dead as well…..
Why is it even worth the risk?
Yeah why would you do that, the mind boggles !
It was great fun joining the first zerg up to the top of the tower, loads of us rushing up killing everything on the way.
Not so much fun now, getting downed by a stupid flower thing and then dead as another one goes off before you get time to recover from downed state.
Edit………
In fact just been in there up on the higher levels, and it’s actually no fun at all, pay 5 silver to go to level 3 and die many times, nobodies going to res you because they will just die as well.
Great game Anet…….

Why would you choose to use a class with a pet as their profession mechanic if you don’t want a pet? Serious question, because I am super confused. That’s like wanting to play a guardian but in light armor and only using duel pistols.
Because it’s a Ranger, and Rangers have a long history in films, games, D&D and much more.
And we Rangers want to play a Ranger, as we have done in every other game we have played.
And because it’s about choices, to choose when we use a pet, to choose when we want to wear town clothes, not for the pet or armour to pop out whenever we stub our toe on a twig.
I think the simplest solution to your problem is this,
Don’t play Ranger.
Some of us just want to play a Ranger, me included, in fact I only have one character a Ranger since the head start.
I hate the pet, and I don’t think they will ever fix it, but I don’t think they will admit to that and will continue to force us to play with a pet.
The problem as I see it is people will just go off and play a Ranger elsewhere, a Ranger that gives them the options they are looking for.
Why nerf everything, we’ve had enough nerfs here.
Many people enjoy a good zerg, me included, doesn’t mean I have to do it all the time.
I have watched this video many times and it is still applicable today about the Ranger.
There’s some very talented people out there, the dialogue and body actions go so well together.
Oh yeah the Ranger, nah don’t think it’ll ever be any good on GW2.
Same here 23/24 went through them all very carefully last night, still 23/24.
Nope I take it back, got all 24/24 now, I had missed one in Mount Maelstrom.
Luckily I didn’t have to go through all 24 to find it.
And I can confirm you don’t have to kill the vet Krait or other mobs around the obby before you transcribe it, it still works, and it doesn’t matter if they are dead already, even better.
So I would say it isn’t bugged and you need to double check, I was following the Dulfy maps btw.
Barrage had a stealth nerf 2-3 months ago (50% less damage)
up everybody seemed to have missed that one, barrage just ain’t what it used to be…….
DeadlySynz.3471
“They cut barrage damage in half (or possibly more) from what it used to be. For me, it went from doing 1800-2600 damage per hit down to 800-1300. To get those damage numbers, one has to be in full berserker gear which obviously is a disadvantage in itself. This is why I felt the nerf was completely unnecessary, as I’m basically rooting myself for this attack with the possibility of getting killed in 1-3 hits.”
Yes barrage got a massive nerf the last so called “patch”.
It used to do really good damage, and hit a large number of mobs, but now it’s pathetic.
During an invasion if I use it on lets say 50 mobs all crowded together, I’m lucky if I hit 3 of them.
Remember the giant thread from last year? Hope it won’t end up like it.
http://youtu.be/htHRErZM7QMHahaha, This said it all. I hope Jon actually watches this. !!
And you know what is sad? Most of it still make sense, one year later.
This is brilliant, and it pretty much still sums up the Ranger………… Yes and after a year it’s very sad that the Ranger is still in this position.
I think Mr Peters has left the building………
Same here 23/24 went through them all very carefully last night, still 23/24.
The Karma nerf was quite drastic, don’t really know why they felt the need to nerf it that much.
It IS hard for players to accumulate Karma now, it takes a long time to gain enough to get what you want.
Some of the longer players managed to gain 3-4 million Karma before the nerf, but I do feel for newer players as it’s now hard work and a lot of grinding.
I would be extremely disappointed if it is a private instance. This looks like a very good opportunity for a more communal experience with continuous meta events and a final world boss finale.
Yup I’ll be disappointed if this is more instanced content, but I think it will be.
More content I won’t bother with….
Summoned creature AI is a different can of worms that we aren’t opening for the same reason. Pets that delay F2 use isn’t some wait script we put into their skills it has to do with core AI behavior shared by all pets and creatures and how they decide tasks. Rewriting that has the risks of breaking millions of unknown things so we have up until now band aided the solution. It is something that needs addressing but won’t be addressed until we can kitten how and when we will test it.
The pet is broken then and won’t me fixed anytime soon, or ever…….
How about a Ranger that can just be like this then, as described by ArenaNet….
" Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. ".
Instead of us having to ditch our bows in favour of hand weapons and melee damage.
The daily activity awards 600 or 1000 (depending on if you win or lose the activity) each run. If there’s one you like, it’s a pretty nice haul.
Yeah that’ll only take you 2 1/2 years. (About +/- a few months).
I just want to know if the pet mechanic is “working as intended” like the sword. That way I can keep an optimistic outlook, or give up and move on.
That’s a good question, I don’t think they’ll be answering it though !
I don’t like being told (Forced) to do something when I don’t want to…….
I don’t like being told I can’t fight in town clothes.
I don’t like changing from my town clothes to armour when I trip over a twig.
I don’t like being forced to use my pet.
I don’t like my pet popping out when I fall more than 6"
I don’t like drawing my weapon just because some mobs are close by.
You get the idea, let the players control how they want to play, when they wear or do something, give control back to the players.
A few thing’s would cause me to quit…….
(In no particular order).
1. The Ranger long bow/short bow.
2. The Ranger pet.
3. The trading post “Error attempting to sell” issue.
4. The endless nerfs to classes and rewards. (DR and RNG).
5. The endless grind for stuff I’m never going to actually get.
6. A good game with a proper Ranger.
There’s probably a few more thing’s I can’t think of right now.
The Biggest change Anet can do right now is removing bloody Signet of the Beastmaster and making that baseline.
Absolutely silly we have to invest 30 points in a line to get the same effect as everyone else.

Who cares about pve, you can go around naked and win. How about wvw where I love my Ranger but hate my pet.
Yup agreed, the pet is even more useless (If that’s possible) in WvW.
Q: What is the ranger niche in the game?
A: Ranger is the pet class.
Really love my Ranger.
Really hate my pet.
Yeah that’s one of the first things I noticed about GW2, GW1 you would move within range before firing you bow for example, and I missed that.
However I don’t know if the same thing would work on GW2.
It’s not rocket science here, it’s about money. If they increased the max, less people would pay (real money) for bank expansions…it’s that simple.
Yup just more junk to collect, and less things to do with it, more and more account bound stuff, no options to sell it, just destroy it seems the only option.
They obviously have a “business plan” to make as much money as possible.
