Above are two profiles of people within the top 10 achievement points.
As you can see, the daily/monthly represents such a high proportion of the total that new players, or players who had no expectation of leaderboards will never have a chance to ascend via merit.
I’m sure many of you will be able to compare these scores against your own achievements and see that there is one, and only one, factor differentiating #10000 and number #1 and that is the daily/monthly grind.
Is this how the achievement point system should be set up?
Shouldn’t previous day dailies be available to complete with reduced rewards? This would turn the competition from one where people have to forego ever leaving the computer for a day to one based on doing things ingame.
Can new players do a Lupicus solo video? Can they get to the currently highest lvl fotm? Can they join team and be top at spvp?
Of course. Things like that happen in every game. Some kids who play chess for the first time are recognized as natural talents, while people who play for years still fall for basic traps.
Doing a solo Lupicus can be done on the second arah run by a natural. Highest level fotm is a mere grind requiring a few twitch mechics which could be inherited from action rpgs. Top pvp has absolutely nothing to do with GW2 but more with a general attitude.
Any of your examples can be done by the right person in a few hours of playtime. Others won’t ever achieve these in hundreds of years, even though they’re #1 on the leaderboards.
Well why do people complain then? If they are good they can do this in few hours like you said and get the “fame”. Oh, wait, they suck right?

Still waiting for your first WvW victory against other top guild.
Or any WvW victory or super High lvl fotm run.
Are some of them bugged? Balthazar is contested all of the time and some others too and i’m on Desolation that has many PvE players. Is there any EU server with Temple of Balthazar open?
Bad move Xaoc, bad move. You could’ve gone to Desolation and made for a great T1 matchup. My humble opinion, of course.
Xaos is not so good guild for a long time, without support from other russian guilds they can’t do anything, this last move of running away….i mean switching just shows us what they really are.
Up! This is what we need!
And this is what we will never get cause this game is now grind>grind>skill. Most of the players are really having hard time finding that dodge button, but they buy that pink ququaquauqqnas and arenanet listens to them.
i don’t understand what the point is
what problem would this solve
None, just more trolls/noobs in tournaments.
I’m not a programmer or something like that, but… is that really so hard to create a random map generator? o.O
It is hard when you only have 6 maps.
Just did it, didn’t get anything, they fixed it. It’s like they don’t even test their patches, they just bring them and hope for the best and put some quick hotfixes after, like this.
I had the same experience. I finished my PvP monthly yesterday and did NOT get any extra laurels…I had already finished my PvE monthly prior.
edit: It would have been brilliant if this were all some ploy to get more ppl into spvp
Nah, they are actually making it a lot worse, now many noobs joined tournaments and had no idea where they are or what to do.
What tournaments? Even if you have your own team they are joke now. And if they change reward system maybe people will….i don’t know…LEARN TO PLAY?!?!?
Just did it, didn’t get anything, they fixed it. It’s like they don’t even test their patches, they just bring them and hope for the best and put some quick hotfixes after, like this.
Remove/change hot-join, make it all 5v5, award people for WINING!!! (1st at wining team gets this, 2nd this and so on) not farming. Punish quiters/afk.
Unless I’ve missed something recently, they specifically said the fix was PvP only and that PvE was not changed in this round.
Fun boys and logic is no no no.
This has been stated many times in multiple threads. Please put a kittening Level 20 Rank Restriction to compete in Tournament Matches.
The queue is filled with nubcakes who have no clue how to play. Especially on this week’s map, they have no idea what any of the buffs do or when they’ll spawn. Management of the Middle buff that pops at 11:30/ 5:30 and top buff at 8:30 arguably decides the match. They don’t know, don’t care, and only play just go get their Monthly Laurels.
Please put a Level 20 Rank Restriction for tournament matches. At the very least make it level 15.
Or gives us option to quit for first 30 sec before game starts, you can guess some players will be worse then bots or you already played with them so you know it!
I enjoy Fractals and the difficulty associated with 48, and that’s the only reason I run them. If by some miracle I get a weapon I can use (Can’t use my 3 Fractal hammers, woo!), then that’s icing on the cake, but otherwise the rewards are abysmal and it is an absurdly inefficient use of one’s time.
I can’t bring myself to do lower level fractals on any other character because it is simultaneously unrewarding and unchallenging. I will likely never progress another character because of this.
Same, i’m doing it mostly for challenge, even when i get good reward (exotic) it’s account bound and most of the time with “weird” stat combo. >:(
In my opinion, it’s average.
And will soon be bettered.
Check the game Wildstar. Check who is the publisher.
Same developers.
Wrong. The man who created GW1 PvP hasn’t been with ANet for years. Only one of the original three founders is left and the team has changed drastically in the interim.
Want to try again?
Nah, PVE didn’t really got new things (after february geartreadmill)
They just changed daily achivements to keep you logging in for laurels, some “epic” events where you search for some items or something and guild missions that you can’t play unless in big guild and even then only when guild leaders want to activate. At least get dates correct if you’re going to say incorrect things. The gear was introduced in November, so even giving you the benefit of the doubt you’re off by three months. Meanwhile since that time they: revamped three whole zones, re-did their scaling event feature, reworking the dailies, the guild missions are a major chunk of guild content (q.q a game called guild wars happens to emphasize large guilds and communities). Hell, the “PvP” patch was the Guild Missions patch… (And I’m not going to bother to list everything else that PvE got.)
PvE has gotten an incredible amount of attention but that’s understandable, it’s likely several orders of magnitude a large audience than PvP is/was/ever would be. Be glad you have developers like Tyler and Evan who actually try or engage with the community in SotG.
Sorry about wrong month, but it’s true. Revamped zones? You mean Orr right? So they fixed some events and added some icons on minimap, big revamp. (and some got bugged, excepted, Lyssa when i stopped playing)
Also this game is called Guild WARS, where are your guild fighting wars (Guild wars, not World wars)???? Guild missions, chase this “boss” on this map, then chase this carro….boss on that map and sometimes you don’t even get to tag them.
Ah, Yahtzee. You, sir, may have my like.
- I also just wrote a thread “about whining on the forum”…
Basically I’m tired of people complaining about the game not being a perfect first attempt… as if any game ever were, and as if any game ever achieved perfection.GW2 has definitely raised the bar that we may set as a standard for future MMO’s and that is a big deal. It’s no WoW killer, to be sure, but it definitely makes fighting dragons seem… well, epic. The Shatterer and all these dragons that you fight, I found it to be some epic battles. And sure, there is stuff to improve on, but I’m confident that it will appear as they get a better grip on how best to make it work with their new game designs and concepts.
Wp to dragon, auto attack, alt + tab to aviod lag, pick up loot. Epic fight!
fire elemental used to be like what you describe. zergs would wipe, piles of corpses, people getting angry at the noobs, etc. let me paint you a picture of what you faced:
1 ember every 1000 range, so you’re almost never out of range of one
fire balls landing everywhere. when they hit you, you get thrown, stunned, and delt half of your life in damage. likely to get hit again before you can get back up. something to note: the effect would happen just before the red circle appeared, making dodging impossible.
flame attack that travels along the ground is about the same as now…
people would be timid and huddle near the bridge, so that was where all these attacks were focused, so you likely got nailed while you were approaching.
don’t even consider going there unless you’re at least level 30 (even though it downlevels you to 15), as you couldn’t even survive one fire ball.
it would take 30-60 minutes of the best skills you could bring to bare, along with 5-20 wp runs, to defeat this beast. even with 50+ players present.
Miss those fights.
Yea, Asian MMOs are really loosing money, that’s why NCSoft bought Arenanet.
I think MMOs in general are falling behind in popularity. The instant gratification crowd (people born after 1992 typically) wants to start a game and have top level gear ASAP and when they get it they move on to another game. If the game takes too long to get that top level gear they say the game is too grindy and quit. There’s no satisfying people like this. At least not in an MMO.
MMOS falling behind in popularity?!?!?!?!?! Source
No satisfying people like this? I agree many want to rush content, but still for me it’s better to let them rush it and let ME choose my own pace then putting this new daily reward system (that makes you log in every day just for 1!!!!! piece of item) just to cover up lack of content and ideas.
Heck I don’t but I’m giving it a shot, most games in the beginning weed out certain players and attract others after a while, after folks understand ‘what kind of game it really is.’
Well some people are starting to understand “what kind of game this really is”. And it’s not the game that atracted so many players at the beginning.
Daily dragon events and other events that drop rares
And this is not grind mentality?!? Why don’t you do events in less populated zones? Oh yea, they don’t give you daily carrot.
I have bought this game purely for PvP aspect – no gear advantage, no pocket healers, great combat mechanics were everything I wanted in an mmorpg. But, as you all have noticed, the development is atrocious for PvP – they did not add ANY new major thing all the way from beta.
It would be less frustrating if this kind of pathetic development was in every aspect of the game, so you could lie to yourself that this is how anet cares about its own game. But as you have noticed the mind numbing mob killing part of the game (pve) had a ton of new things implemented, so that this is going to be a AAA PvP, or an esport it seems was purely a lie (or a “marketing strategy”)…
Nah, PVE didn’t really got new things (after february geartreadmill)

Please do not make comments on what is viable/not viable, what is OP/UP, and whether rally should be in the game or not.
Gw 2 is game for casuals = casuals play HJ = anet listens to casuals
Why is everyone talking about this is for casual? They also said this game is about SKILL! And you can be casual and still be good! (like in DotA or LoL)
Casual friendly and NOOB friendly game isn’t same.
Just don’t expect too much or anything at all. You’ll only get frustrated.
This, didn’t you guys already learn?
How is it different?
I don’t play 1 day there, i don’t get something i need for doing end game.
I don’t play 1 day here, i don’t get something i need for doing end game.(farming/grinding is not end game, or is it?)
Also you get points for raid there, points for guild missions here. Only difference is guild missions are nowhere near epic.Point one, you don’t need anything from the laurel vendor to play end game. You really don’t. I play end game without it. You perceive a need that’s not there. That’s on you.
But it’s still different.
Someone gets something for doing something. That’s a reward they get. If you don’t do it, you don’t get that reward. But nothing’s been taken away from you because you never had it.
It’s only been taken away from you if you had it already and lost it. Admittedly it’s semantics, but when you’re on a text forum, words and meanings are sorta everything.
FotM? If your end game are those 3 events in Orr that everybody farm then good luck. And don’t you think Agony will be introduced in other places in next patches?
Nothing has been taken away from me? Did you read about Guild Mission issues????!?!

Oh, sorry then.
Happened to me sometimes, especially if more then 1 people try to ress, guess you just need guardian then.
“the grind” is a matter of perspective but mmo’s tend to tap into the OCD of a lot of players. They dump rediculous hours into an mmo to get all the best gear and coolest stuff. Then they are so burned out from grinding they usually hate the game and quit playing. I’ve watched this happen to several friends. Some have quit playing mmo’s altogether.
Ever knew anyone who worked harder at an MMO than at their job? Or worse, lost their job because they prioritized an MMO over their job? I gotta wonder how that happens…but it does.
I’m not blaming MMO’s for this; they didn’t force anyone to do anything. It’s just something that makes me go “hmmmmmm…”
To be honest … I blame the player, just like I blame the heroin addict, not the heroin itself.
I chose GW2 to be my game of choice because I can actually alt+f4 and not lose sleep over it. In <other game>, going out means losing 1 day worth of DKP.
And i loose 1 day worth laurel if i don’t login 1 day.
And in “other game” to be honest…i blame the player, you don’t have to grind there if you don’t like it.
But since Anet has said they’re going to redo world bosses (and we see some of that in Orr already), I guess its’ a matter of time before it changes. And there’s still Project Alpha and Lupi for people who actually want that level of frustration. lol
You can zerg alpha too (stack on him, dodge once in a while, some classes can probably save you easy even if you fails dodge), dodging once in a 10 s isn’t really great mechanic. Lupi is really great, just hoping they won’t nerf him cause of complains. (like they did with some other things)
And these “changes” to events for me it looks like fixes for events, they were probably intended to be that way from the start, but they rushed to release this game, gets more obvious more time it goes from launch. The point is, for every guy who likes Lupi, ten guys can’t stand him. I’ve beaten him and still don’t like him.
You can stack on Alpha in the submarine path, but it’s much much harder in the other paths. And when we fight him on those paths, my guild, at least, doesn’t stack on him. We move a lot, we don’t rez people until they’re dead instead of downed, and we do a whole lot of moving and dodging.
I stack on him on p2 i think (with my guard, but i can see that it can get harder with no guardian)
Also did him many times on necro, you just need to dodge at a right time. But sometimes he can get undodgeable (pets and if someone dies he can focus more on you, it happened to me that he puts me in crystal, aoe on me, after first crystal is destroyed immediately 2nd crystal :P)
And for Lupicus just learn the game, i did it first time with 4 first timers (including me).
After that it’s really easy with good players.
“we don’t rez people until they’re dead instead of downed” ????? One of the basic rules of GW2 is to ress downed as fast as you can and don’t ress dead unless you are sure someone can kite boss.
But since Anet has said they’re going to redo world bosses (and we see some of that in Orr already), I guess its’ a matter of time before it changes. And there’s still Project Alpha and Lupi for people who actually want that level of frustration. lol

I’m divided on the removal of trinity. I liked it a bit but hated it as well.
I think Final Fantasy 13 had a very nice system, although it was a single player game. You still had roles like tank/heal/dps/debuffer/buffer etc… but the neat thing was that any character can fill these rolls. So throughout the battle you are constantly shifting roles to adapt to the situation for example:
Boss fight begins.
Everyone shifts to dps/debuff roles.
Boss starts doing some damage.
One person transforms to tank role.
Tank getting low on health.
Another person transforms to healer role.
Boss does a massive attack, full party left almost dead.
Everyone shifts to healer role to quickly recover.GW2 system is more fun.
Boss fight begins.
Everyone stays in dps.
Boss dies.
Everyone teleports to another wp to camp another boss.
Oh, wait….Except in dungeons and fractals where that’s not completely true. If you’re talking about open world bosses, well, that’s pretty much the same as open world bosses in every game I’ve encountered them in.
Yes, but many games have epic boss instances that you do as a guild or multi party group. Epic bosses here have no limitation on the number of parties doing the boss (and so all get zerged) and boss mechanics of the dragons is really uninteresting. It looks epic, but it doesn’t feel like you did anything special.
I think they are limited at 100 man when events stop scailing, at least someone said that months ago. But if they would scale it for more man, boss would 1 shot most of the guys, and that is when boring mechanics really comes to mind.

Nah, if you played guild wars 2 from start some bosses were pretty hard when a lot people are there, it didn’t last for 20 seconds even in lower zones. (and you had to care about dodging, ressing others)
But that’s another game i’m talking about.
I sometimes wonder if the grind is the only thing keeping some people playing…
I realize that different people find different levels of grind acceptable. This is not what I am talking about though.
I’m curious how many just long in to do the daily laurel/fractal/dragon chest and then log off. I’m suspicious that this is why they put that stuff in there..to keep people playing just a little longer…
This is truth, just check the lag on events that give rares and check the lag on events in Lornar’s pass.
Also on LFG check CoF p1 posts. Many people just do daily so they wouldn’t fall behind gearwise (no treadmill of course) and then go play something else.
If they introduce some easier way to get precusor, many people will get legendary and then they will soon se there isn’t much to do but grind for legendary, so they will probably quit. That’s why arenanet will not introduce this. (at least not until Epic Legendary comes out)

Oh, wait….
Myself and everyone in the our guild noticed that some time ago ecto salvage drops have been nerfed to the ground. Any reason for this? It was unlisted as well in patch updates, and I am doubting it’s just a coincidence that 100+ people are seeing less ectoes for mass salvaging lv80 rares after dungeon/farming/fractal runs.
Cause now rares are becoming what greens were.
And noooo, it’s nooooot gear treadmill….
I don’t think you understood what I was saying. I’m fine with earning Ascended however Anet sees fit, I’m saying I don’t think that should be a gate for agony resistance. If fotm vendors had exotic stat trinkets w/ infusion slot available solely so we could get more agony resistance then progression wouldn’t be tied to laurels/commendations as they are now. Originally fotm was in a side-world of it’s own though, so I guess this is what anet/players wanted. It makes more sense to me though for there to be a way to progress in fotm through fotm.
Now you progress by killing x something and crafting x something, real skill challenge.
It’s funny that on this video you see NCSoft name first, but where is it in Arenanet’s manifesto?
To precizely seperate them from the method of grinding FotM and making them gear meant for all players.
If you could trade them in for pristine relics then that would mean that if you grinded you could possibly get them faster and more of them. Now there is an achievement gate instead of a gate that includes grinding up to higher levels of FotM to get pristine relics.
So grinding daily and guild raid……i mean missions is better?
This community is seriously the biggest collection of cry babies ever.
It took me all of about 45 minutes to finish my daily yesterday, and the only one I had to actively seek out was the Kryta Slayer one. If 45 min is too much time for you to invest in something, then don’t play an MMO.
You have literally ignored the entire point. The point is many players have completed all the overland content and want to enjoy other aspects of the game; but there is no point in playing the rest of the game and doing the things that we want to do Fractals, Dungeons, Spvp; because we have to magically control time and add 45 minutes to our day to do the daily. You obviously didn’t even read anything. Like where dozen or so times I have already said is what I want to do is spend 2 hours doing dungeons; but there is no point in spending 2 hours doing dungeons if I have to spend an additional 45 minutes doing dailys.
What do dailies buy you that you feel compelled to do them?
Laurels, for only “challenging” place (besides Arah and WvW) that has left in game.
Most player’s work for a living in a job they don’t care much for, stressed, and look forward to their 3 hours of escape, and casual conversations over Team Speak with people they only know through voice chat. They don’t wish to study the current Meta’s, and turn the game into a second job.
If this is really the attitude of A Net, then they shot themselves by arrogance and ignorance of the average frustrations to the average joe player.
Again our Guild welcomes anyone from A Net to join in our runs and get real feed back from the average player. Not the elite of the game, as our guild will not start discriminating players going into dungeon based upon high or low skill. Gaming is a social behavior, not an exclusion.
THIS!!! The game is supposed to be fun. When it stops being fun because it becomes so hard that only the leetists and/or well-geared level 80s can do the first dungeon in the game, you will lose so many players and get such bad word-of-mouth that the game will die. I have seen about 10% of the newbies in our guild quit because they had to wait so long to be able to run a dungeon – not being able to do anything but story mode since no one but our guild would group them for explorable. Several of them I know were long-time MMO players who had just come to GW2, enjoyed it, then lost interest because of AC, and that was BEFORE the difficulty was put up higher.
You have Skype, Facebook and other things, maybe some players are having fun having challenges? This is game, not a therapy.
Simple, OP you are below average player.
And what is really funny is that before this update there were not many PVE focused big guilds (i mean 50+ online players at prime time, there are many guilds with 100 members but 10 active ones, guess where the others are?)
I’m on Desolation and not counting WvW guilds there were probably 4-5 big guilds, with this patch they will just give more reason to those small and dying guild to quit.
You obviously didn’t read my entire post. I suppose I cannot blame you considering how long it is.
This is accomplished by only having to do 5/9 achievements. I’ll address how easy getting these 5 is from only 1 playstyle later on.
Wrong. Sometimes all I want to do is farm dungeon tokens, which if anything only does 1/9 or part of 1/9.
Log on a low level alt and craft on them. Even if you play the alt, meaning it isn’t in LA: you’d still only be paying less than a silver to WP back.
You completely ignored the part about me not wanting to have to play alts to do the daily.
You’ve completely imagined this problem. If your bank is full then just TP the goods.
You completely missed the point, getting rid of the harvestables isn’t the problem. Its the tedium of doing it when I do not want to, and on an alt I dont want to be playing.
This is 1 of 9 achievements. Do 5 of 8 of the remaining ones.
As I already said I can list something wrong with all nine and the fact that none of them are completable simply by the one or two hours I already spent doing dungeons.
This is 1 of 8 of the remaining ones. Do 5 of the other 7.
See above.
And how can you possibly justify whining about not wanting to do something you’ve never even tried? You might love Keg Brawl yet you whine about being *forced** to do it. What is wrong with you?*
Because, like any of the other dailys its something I would have allot more time playing to do. After I already spent 2 hours doing dungeons I shouldnt be forced to go spend doing however much time keg brawl takes.
One is always kills which you get by wandering through a zone for 5 minutes. One is events which should be run in to while wandering. Gathering is always one, and apart from you making up insane reasons that you cannot do it, it’s the easiest one.
The other two involve craftingOk so I should stop running dungeons because the developers want me to spend all my time doing that?
or require logging on to an alt.
I dont want to play alts
The claims made by you and other posters are literally insane. You’ve created a fantasy world where you’re a victim of mental bullying by purposefully avoiding thinking about solutions to extremely simple tasks.
Your response is extreme. My not wanting to play anymore then the 2 hours I spent in a dungeon is called having a life.
Good post.
And what about WvW players? They have almost same problem as players who like dungeons most.
+1
But, If you keep making it easy for them, their never gonna get better.
This!
This has been done to death just because you get more rewards from daily dose not mean you MUST do them. If any thing its you who is making the game grinding because THAT is how you play mmorpgs.
Do you buy ever deal that you see on a store? MUST you buy ever deal you see? No because you have a brain. Just because something is more rewarding dose not make it a must do.
Most of these daily events are do able in less then 30 mins. And for some reason this is too much for ppl to do i think gaming is the least of there worry and not whether or not that they can do every thing in a game.Just because you breath doesn’t mean you MUST do it.
So by that line of thought you must do your daily to keep playing? Well if Anet is going to delete your hero if you stopped getting them by all means your right but they are not so…
Well i have to do them if i want to do FotM wich is the only place where skill is still required, everything else being so nerfed.
Actually, I always found inspection really creepy. Just – back off! I do not feel happy being evaluated by random strangers. Just – creepy.
It’s a game dude.
