Gandara
I have to say, the upcoming EU Silver League is looking rather tasty at the moment. EU mid tiers have always been pretty tight in terms of scores and coverage however with the servers towards the lower ranks getting some strong transfers in recent weeks I really think it will be a very hard league to predict. Also with the large number of multi national servers I expect the forum wars to be epic as well.
Abaddon’s Mouth – Probably slight favorites due to current ranking and wvw population.
Desolation – Anyone’s guess where they will finish, depends on the large PvE population helping the remaining wvw guilds.
Gandara – Jekyll and Hyde server from one day to the next, another strong contender for a top 3 finish.
Aurora Glade – A couple of strong guild transfers have boosted their already decent chances.
Miller’s Sound – Probably out gunned for the top spots but have potential to spring a few surprises
Gunnar’s Hold – Some recent transfers and a recruitment drive have seen them climb the ranks in recent weeks, will it be enough to compete with the higher populated servers?
Fort Ranik – Will suffer from the strengthening of most of the other servers around them, although they may be able to spring a surprise or two if the PvE playerbase gets enticed by the league format.
Far Shiverpeaks – Some strong guild transfers have bolstered their strength in recent weeks, as with Gunnar’s it will be interesting to see how they fair against the larger wvw population servers in the league.
Underworld – The weakest on paper. Much depends on thier ‘Very High’ server population and if they can entice their larger PvE playerbase into WvW to cause an upset or two.
So who will come away with the crown? Are Desolation still a force to be reckoned with? Will Abaddon’s Mouth venture out of their keeps? Can the forum really handle another matchup thread between Gunnar’s Hold and Far Shiverpeaks? Is Aurora Glade actually Piken Square in disguise? Can Underworld avoid the wooden spoon?
yeah some fun fights over the last few days, see you out there!
Yup, it’s the level 80 option when you enter and start the dialog in the dungeon.
I wouldn’t sweat too much on other people’s opinions, just go with the flow and do the things you enjoy. Just remember that you can visit any races starting area from lions arch, so there is plenty of variety in locations for wandering around when you first start
The best piece of advice I can offer is to stick around after the dynamic events because more often than not another one will lead from your actions.
enjoy your time online!
Fast Hands! Tough to go back to 10 sec recharges on other classes!
glorious gold, so-so silver and shameful bronze
new buff on the lord (continues when downed)- (2-3 mins) The lord has been resurrected by a player skill, resurrection skills no longer have an effect.
would keep the mechanic but tone down the insta res stalling that can occur.
can of worms opened.
pretty sure most servers have deliberately ‘taken it easy’ at some stage in wvw’s lifespan to drop tiers in the old system (gandara certainly has, piken did when you were on it if memory serves me correctly)
just because there’s some cosmetic reward now doesn’t mean desolation need to be singled out.
Engineer or Elementalist.
While I think elementalist does better towards the traited direction, the Engineer can switch roles without retraiting a bit better.
I disagree, Engineers are tied to their traits a lot more. Switching from say Bomb Kit to Flamethrower to Med Kit would require a lot more trait points to get the most out of your skills. An Elementalist just has to swap from fire to water to get similar results and can use their traits to compliment their style of play.
I would say no, it’s not worth the stress if you are going in with random players. Some of the fractals require more concentration & coordination than the average dungeon. If you have difficulty with say jumping puzzles or quickly picking up items then I would go in with friends that understand your situation and can help with the tricky bits.
Hello guys and girls
Im hoping you can help me pick a class, my last mmorpg was TERA and I played a berserker(melee with a great AXE).What defined that class:
-Slow attacks
-Had to charge my attacks and predict where enemy was going to successfully land the hit
-Some Aoe skills
-ok crit chance however some skills gave crazy crit damage multiplierNow, the class was melee but I am not going to be picky
Could you please suggest me a class that does crazy crits, i like big numbers even if they are slow and don’t win me any dps races.I don’t really want to play a rogue unless i absolutely have to, im not a fan of stealth or backstab and sneaky gameplay. I would also like to avoid playing over popular builds, heard something about 100d or w/e
I’ve played gw1 for a long time a while back and i had a necro(SS and MM) and an elementalist(got nothing to do with crits).
I looked at engineers a wee bit and the grenades look pretty decent for what i want to do, i also looked at necro but from what i gather its just debuffs and that form you transform into(they have a name for it…)
TL;DR: need a fun, skill based class that crits for big numbers
Thanks folks!
Hi hi!
Most professions can be built to give you massive crit chance and crit bonus damage using the right gear but from your list of things you liked from TERA I would say warrior or guardian specifically using a hammer as one of their weapon sets.
The nice thing about GW2 professions is that they are pretty versitile and by swapping a weapon in combat you can go from dps crit monster to support / buffer / debuffer at the push of a button.
Guardian hammer skills have several where you have to predict and control your enemies.
Warrior hammer skills have more knockdowns in front of your character but their burst skill ‘Earthshaker’ (this has to charge up during the fight) is AoE and ground targeted so there is an element of predicting movement. Warriors also have access to the trait ‘Unsuspecting Foes’ which gives you an extra 50% crit chance on your Earthshaker.
Just note that in PvE the toughest bosses will be immune to most forms of control so your hammer skills will not be as effective against them. In PvP other players will likely run ‘stunbreakers’ to lessen the effects of your control skills.
Hope that helps a little.
your best best for big spikes with hammer is traiting unsuspecting foes, burst mastery & merciless hammer, while stacking and crit % to 100 with fury an offensive amulet / jewel set (eg berserker / valkyrie)
my experiences thus far:
mostly great, the tool works well and the only issues I have had is with some of the players themselves.
I also liked the fact that ‘LFG System Abuse’ is now listed in the report feature as I have found instances of small guild groups doing a dungeon with random players, getting the last boss to 10% health, kicking all the non guilded group and advertising a post on the LFG tool selling the path to people. If Anet could find a way of keeping track of who you have grouped with then this would deter people doing this in the future.
Other than that I like it.
Just got kicked at the last fractal ! I want anet statement that they are not working with the gold sellers / atm i see all that kick players from last fractal / dungeon not being banned and still active everyday in-game ! 2 reasons : anet doesnt ban coz they dont care or anet doesnt ban coz they work with goldsellers ! What is it ?
same thing happened to me on SE p1 (lol), 2 guildies kicked all at the last boss on 10% and listed it on lfg as selling last boss for 5g (lol).
shame I rejoined and reported them (lol).
Gandara FlyHack – 00:05 – Map AR – Sunnyhill
have fun….
that tower is pretty easy to bug into, especially for hammer guardians. If you think it was a fly hack over the walls then submit it to anet, nothing can be gained from posting it here.
Amazing defence job from [Yak] and [CNTK] on your home map, huge congrats to you ;D
Great and intense fight whole the evening. Great job :P
yeah was great fun with BLAK and BL tonight, cheers for all the fights!
cross server, and i like it.
No offense but asking for stuff that never been here is just a waste of time in any Game.
This game doesn’t have this faceroll gvg feature and never had ….
i suggest you to move on to other games that has what you want.
GW1 reform? It’s on!
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/baaa-lf-gvgsc-players-t10525170.html
doing this in spvp is a joke, you have even less build diversity with the way gear is handled and some sigils for example aren’t even available in spvp. not to mention you can’t fit 40 people into a match.
regardless, being moved to ingame events in 3…2…1…
but do you not agree that a separate arena is the best option for all involved?
The problem with gvg is players vs players of 15 to 20 in size duking it out. This simply could be fixed with an in game spvp zone where players can use their gear, not spvp like, and can be done by being brought in tp; so this way anet gets to earn some cash too.
It’s a win win.

i know lots of people have a passion for gvg in this game, but until there is a gvg instance a la guild wars 1 these people are just going to have to deal with the changes to the maps.
using the wvw maps for gvg was always a case of bashing square pegs into round holes anyway.
hopefully anet can put something in place to cater for this type of gameplay.

I like the changes, the new points on the map have to be worthwhile for people to fight & defend.
something > nothing
cheers devon.
Just to add that warriors have really easy access to the fury boon which gives you a 20% increased critical chance. This means you don’t necessarily need to deck yourself out in gear with a lot of precision as you already can get a huge bonus from this boon and maintaining it (with skills like Signet of Rage / ‘For Great Justice’ / increased boon duration bonuses like the Tactics trait line and food buffs).
Using some gear in your setup like Cavaliers (Toughness/Power/Crit % bonus damage) & Valkyrie (Power/Vitality/Crit % bonus damage) can give you a nice extra defense buffer without sacrificing too much offensive power.
When using a ‘shout’ skill, for added affect actually shout the phrase at the screen to enhance your gaming experience and feel like a true hero.
some nice thoughts op, i just feel that the main issues are too deeply ingrained into the game now for it to ever change.
with the whole game going towards ‘gear progression’, the majority of people will always find the easiest / quickest way to mash through the content to get their fat lootz rather than look at ‘fun / variety factor’. As you mentioned there are encounters in the game that require true support characters & builds, it’s just that they are underplayed. Why would one spend 30+ mins in one dungeon playing support when I get the same reward in under 10 mins in another for mashing 100 blades in an offensive build and dodging correctly?
hah just wait until you have to craft 6 ascended armour pieces & trinkets for each character. 100 pages that thread will be.
cool
literally cannot wait for ascended armour too.
The entirety of the WvW population, the collective effort of every single player to ever enter WvW, millions of players across 51 servers, from lowly newbie all the way up to forum-troll-master, playing non-stop for an entire year has achieved….. 23 Yakslapper titles.
http://www.guildwars2hub.com/news/guild-wars-2-first-year-infographic
Just let that sink in :P It’s totally an achievable goal for an individual!
YaK approve of this message.
welcome fsv! see you out there for some fun times
cheers for the matchup BB and JS!
The brilliant builds found in AB.
Valkyrie if you have access to fury or have plenty of crit % chance.
Knights otherwise.

I really need to decide on a class to stick with because whenever I think I’ve found the class for me, I end up getting it to level 10 then deleting it. I’m pretty much going to be soloing everything I can. I don’t like tank-like or defensive classes. I like to deal some really good damage and be offensive. Anything that can fit those standards? Thanks so much, I really need the help. I need to find a class I can stick to.
I would say Thief if you want to stay away from ‘tank like classes’ and solo because you can deal some fun single target and AoE damage, have evades and a lot of movement and you can always call on some buddies in Ambush and Thieves Guild to help you out in the tougher battles. You also have the option to stealth and skip mobs if you so desire.
Or you could go Warrior and greatsword your way through the content.
tbh cancelling happens for a number of reasons and you just need to suck it up.
and it’s a shame we wont get to fight you this week, at least we would have turned up
I would look at changing a couple of things in that build to get a bit better synergy.
I disagree with Faranox. Unsuspecting Foe is pretty much stapled to a hammer warriors build. The reason for this is that with this trait you can get very close to a 100% crit chance on your Earthshaker, which is why you can stack up on Valkyrie & Cavalier gear, for the % crit bonus damage.
Berserker’s Power is a bit of a waste of a trait line to shoot for because your main hammer damage is going to come from popping that earthshaker as often as possible meaning you are not going to be at max adrenaline for long.
Following on from this I would move the trait points into Discipline for Burst Mastery so you can Earthshaker as much as possible. If you want to run axe/sword in your other set you can take Sharpened Axes. This will mean your main damage rotation will be, Eathshaker, Weapon Swap, Whirling Axe (refil adrenaline), Weapon Swap, Earth Shaker.
Full Berserker’s gear is not necessary in the least. Cavaliers / Valkyrie and maybe one or two Berserkers armour pieces will do the job fine. The reason for this is that FGJ and Signet of Rage will give you perma fury. You can easily get away with running 20-30% crit chance with a couple of berserker items and be a ton more survivable.
Remember that quite a lot of elite mobs in PvE will be immune to your knockdowns and stuns, so you might be relying on your swords / axe as your main weapon set vs these enemies.
I’m currently running the below which is fairing me pretty well in the current PvE events, Earthshaker the stuff you can and swap to Greatsword to build might with 100 blades. Might be something to think about.
I hope that the Dev is at UW for the stream and you guys troll him hard :p
There may have been a few ram graves dropped
They couldn’t hide from our keen eyes in that UW blob!
I was half expecting the update to have patch notes to have a bounty on our heads lol
So we aren’t affraid of any1 and aren’t walking away from any fights aswell.
pretty sure that wp was spammed pretty hard earlier tonight
gg ty for the fights this week all <3
hammer warriors have such easy access to fury & crit chance bonuses through traits that you dont need to worry too much about your crit chance %. I would agree with a mix of Valkyrie / Cavalier with a few Berserker items in the mix to get a nice rounded set of stats.
What about zerker staff guardians? I’ve seen a recent increase of their popularity. Soon they might flood every dungeon.
You may be confusing ‘not enough support’ with ‘too easy & boring to stay in greatsword and max their own damage output’
Please, no.
hah played with Rennie yesterday and he suprised me with a hammer in CoF! The nerve!
mm imagine the QQ if they nerfed Forceful Greatsword and 100 blades.
forum would be down for days.
Take everything you read in the class forums with a pinch of salt
The medium armour professions have ‘some issues’ and require a bit more thought into build and gear setup when playing in the 5 map group content than the rest I would say.
Thankfully a lot of the 5 man group content can be cleared with any setup or mix of professions.
However if you are someone that absolutely has to play the class that is least likely to get kicked from groups doing the hardest content then I would roll Warrior or Guardian.
I would stress that player ‘skill’ and experience counts for a lot more than what profession they play in most cases.
so warriors are overrated because the don’t offer enough support? (apart from party wide fury / might / conditional removal / swiftness / vigor / regeneration / stability / base stat increases / easy blast finishers).
You may be confusing ‘not enough support’ with ‘too easy & boring to stay in greatsword and max their own damage output’
boooooooooooo
sort it out!
Thanks for the fun times this week all! Special mention to Punk, DW and Zerg for the gvgs and to Kale, GD and the rest for the people we fought throughout the week for being great opponents. Hope we cross swords again soon!
This calculator might help too:
No one has any insight into my problem.
The problem is that deciding on the ‘best’ profession is entirely subjective. Rangers and thieves are quite similar in that they are based on movement and evades rather than soaking up damage. You are going to find that people will unfairly pigeon hole you as a less desirable profession whatever you decide as the medium armoured professions really have issues when you compare them to the others. E.g they are not as flexible as an ele, not as much aoe dps as a warrior, not as much debuffs as a necro, not as support orientated as a guardian or mesmer.
I would go with figuring out which weapon sets you enjoy most and work from that. When I started I rolled thief over ranger because I loved the movement from Shortbow over the rangers more static Shortbow skills.
There are quite a few guilds that might tickle your fancy listed on:

and

hi mate, a good place to start would be:
http://thisisgandara.com/showthread.php?353-Active-WvW-guilds-of-Gandara
and
http://thisisgandara.com/forumdisplay.php?9-Guilds
maybe get in touch with some of these guilds and see if they take your fancy! there are plenty of great wvw guilds in Gandara and they range from small scale (5 people) to large (40+) so it depends on what kind of groups you like playing with!
I know XxX are actively recruiting in the borderland map chat at the moment, might be worth checking them out.
haha top stuff Boz & all on Gandara BL
last night we were on Elona BL and managed to flip Hills & Bay within 2 minutes of each other with nice teamwork from XxX, Dius, YaK and the rest of the Gandarans on the map.
Good luck for the rest of the week all!
thanks for the fights on gandara bl tonight, looking forward to the rest of the week!
