There are also several summon/access items for both the personal bank and the trading post (as well as guild bank access via guild training). Consider picking up and using those – it’s what they’re there for.

All armor broken -> unrevivable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Interesting idea. I would be for this type of behavior if implemented properly.

The only thing that comes to my mind right away as a possible method for circumventing the broken armor check would be that a perma-AFK player could unequip all of their armor prior to leeching so they wouldn’t be wearing any armor to then get broken that would lock them out of being able to be revived. It may be possible for a character to still have enough stats even without armor that would allow them to get event credit via their auto-attack still doing enough damage. I’m sure it would need to be evaluated and configured to take this scenario into account were this type of behavior penalty to be implemented.

I am also entirely for what Forgotten Legend has outlined.

Screenshots suddenly potato quality?

There are also alternative, external programs to take screen captures. Even SweetFX and other graphics PPIs have a screen capture key that you can use. They will also capture your cursor which the in-game screen capture does not. That can be useful at times.

It was reported some time ago after a patch as being a problem. It has still not been fixed, though I think they’re all busy fixing stuff that doesn’t work right in their last update. Hopefully it will one day get corrected to have the previous quality, or even re-implement the hi-res screenshot function without needing to take a screenshot in bmp format.

I tear through salvage kits way too fast!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Indeed. You do not even need to farm for it.

As you already stated you have plenty of coin, one way to acquire this 150 gold would be to simply spend 2-4 minutes placing buy orders for low cost items. You then wait 24 hours. Then log back in and spend 20 minutes collecting the items and salvaging them. You then sell the salvaged materials and list them for sale and they sell within minutes. 24 minutes on a no-risk purchase and sale gets me my initial investment back as well as an additional 30-35 gold minimum. This is only one method that takes almost no effort due to already having the coin to make the initial, large buy orders. The more of these items you place buy orders on, the more profit you make at the expense of a few more minutes of salvaging. 4-5 days and the copper-fed is already paid for. This also means plenty of use for the copper-fed if you continue with this process to make even more gold every day, where the copper-fed actually decreases the amount of time required to perform the salvages due to no longer having to stop to go buy more salvage kits.

That is exactly how I started out. I started off making as many buy orders as 1 gold would allow me to make, which was quite a few, and I also relied on merchant-bought salvage kits. I then took the profit I made and used it to make larger buy orders. When I finally got up to a page of full stack buy orders, constantly having to purchase salvage kits, as well as those many kits having to share inventory space with the items I was trying to salvage, it got to be a very time-consuming process. I then bought the copper-fed which allowed me to have all of my inventory available for items to claim and salvage and it was paid for in a couple of days.

I’ve stepped almost entirely out of the trading post for most of this year though and only have about 2 dozen items I maintain orders for to keep my 30-35 gold per day income as I don’t log in all that much anymore.

Hell, I’ve even considered gifting people copper-feds to start them on their way to TP domination as long as they were kind and respectful people. In fact, I’d have given you specifics for which items to place buy orders for that I would intentionally not out-bid you on so you could make more profit faster, as well as gift you a copper-fed completely free…had your last response for how to make this gold included the word ‘please’.

I tear through salvage kits way too fast!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

StinVec.3621

Khristophoros, the time that has been spent discussing your problem in this thread could have been spent in-game acquiring the gold that would be more than enough to purchase the copper-fed salvage-o-matic without using your existing funds. This fact negates the issue of needing to justify the cost to purchase one with the time it would take to recoup the gold as it would have been earned during that time instead using it here to discuss justifications for not purchasing it.

However, if you are really focused on not spending gold to resolve the issue you have with salvaging by purchasing a copper-fed, you may want to stop spending coin on your salvage kits as well and instead use your karma that you have surely accumulated much of. I recommend heading to the Black Citadel and purchasing Fine kits from the charr Cultural weaponsmith outside of the Trading Post area. You could easily park an alt there to buy kits to then toss into your bank for your other characters to collect and use.

Then again, karma is gold, technically, as you can perform actions to convert karma into coin. So no matter what it comes down to spending coin in one form or another for salvage kits.

Copper-fed would be the most cost effective method to which you could have already acquired the necessary gold to purchase had you spent the time acquiring gold in-game instead of “discussing” potential alternatives (read: being rude to anyone who recommends the copper-fed to solve your problem) here on the forums.

Just looking at this logically.

What if we don't buy the expansion pack?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

@Seera (not scerevisiae)
The Personal Story only takes place on the existing Tyria map in zones that came with the base game. I don’t think it has ever been mentioned that there would be new personal stories that take place in HoT zones, so it’s pretty unlikely that anyone would encounter an issue of not having access to a map where a Personal Story step takes place.

Eh… there is a new personal story coming with HoT. And it is about the fight against Mordremoth. And it does take place in Heart of Maguuma.

Are you sure you do not mean Living Story and the fight against Mordremoth, which is what the story for HoT is about?

Where was this mentioned please?

If it actually is a new Personal Story, does it require the completion of the initial Personal Story to kill Zhaitan? Is this information mentioned someplace? I’ve not seen anything, anywhere, in all of the materials released where it is stated that there is a new “Personal Story” – “Living Story” has been consistently used. I would appreciate a source for this statement please, if you have a moment. I’ll go back and review all of the official materials released to see if I missed it explicitly stating a new HoT-ONLY “Personal Story”.

The Living Story is the continuation of the personal story now. It’s been like that for a while. It’s the story of your character. One runs into another.

The story starts with you defeating Zhaitan. You’re part of the pact then. Then the pact goes off to take on Mordremoth and we all know what happpens (or should by this point anyway).

So the pact storyline which started in the personal story continues in the living world. They’re now one and the same thing.

AH, thank you, Vayne. I appreciate your explaining that there is basically no difference any longer.

So it is not actually stated anywhere that there is a new HoT-ONLY “Personal Story”, just that “Living Story” (all added story-related content) will require HoT.

Basically, the term “Personal Story” and “Living Story” are the same thing now and everyone is using them interchangeably. So apparently it does not matter that there is no official information stating a new HoT-ONLY “Personal Story”, as the “Living Story” will require HoT (thus being HoT-ONLY) and it is the same thing as “Personal Story” now.

I know that LS Season 1 wasn’t really a continuation of the Personal Story (regarding implementation, anyway) due to there being open world elements that included (and several times required) many other players to complete them. Season 2 really was a true continuation to the Personal Story as I believe it was entirely instanced and solo content, so it did not require anyone else to complete it.

So if I understand correctly, the community has basically decided (justifiably) that “Living Story” and “Personal Story” are the same thing now and that those names are able to be used interchangeably.

Saying “New Living Story will require HoT” and “New Personal Story will require HoT” are both talking about the exact same story and content and both are correct.

Thank you, Vayne, for clarifying that LS and PS are the exact same thing now.

It probably doesn’t make a difference other than preventing potential confusion, but perhaps it would be better for the term “Personal Story” to only be used by the community when referring to the solo, Zhaitan-related story that was included with the base game, and “Living Story/Living World” when referring to the added story content (including HoT and future story related content).

Again, thank you for explaining that to me, Vayne. I appreciate your taking the time to do so.

It’s also been said they won’t have access to future living stories either.

Noone has said this. just like every game there ill be a significant proportion of people who don’t buy the expansion, and locking these people out of the new story would also preclude these people from buying from the store, so not something they are likely to do.

Not that I’d be bothered either way, LS has been crap.

How can you complete a personal story step if you don’t have access to the map it’s on?

where do you go now that LA is ruined?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I had always used Divinity’s Reach because I loved the atmosphere and everything was relatively near to each other.

  • Then they made a change that caused only Divinity’s Reach to go from a 15 second load time to over a minute and I’d still load in with invisible walls and floors for about 10 seconds.

I then switched to Rata Sum. Back to 15-20 second load times with the added benefit that many services I used were closer to each other, as well as finally being rid of NPCs walking up to the bank that would cause you to constantly interact with them instead of the bank NPC.

  • However, Accountancy Waypoint in Rata Sum is like the Capitol for trollers dropping interactive items on the NPCs, and mesmers dropping portals on the NPCs that send you plummeting into the abyss. It is also party-central with groups of people having water fights, group photo-ops, dance chains, etc. And, of course, all of these various groups constantly yelling at the other groups to stop interrupting their activity as if they owned the place.

I had enough. I then finally bought the Permanent Captain’s Airship Pass and have had relative silence ever since, as well as everything a few steps away. No need to ever go to LA either as there is also a mystic forge there. I see that you do have an interest in getting this pass. I do not think you will regret it when they go on sale again. You can get the 2-Week passes until the perm goes on sale again, but that is a lot of gems to shell out for temporary access.

Monk's Outfit and new dyes in gemstore

Dulfy, the chat link you have for the Monk’s Outfit on your site ( [&BBgIAAA=] ) is not the right one, and that one does not link anything.

[&AgHnEAEA]
That is the right one.

So sad that we cannot even preview new stuff in the wardrobe until a patch gets released a while after the item does. Even though that out-of-store preview is not the greatest, at least it’s better than what the store offers in way of previewing. sigh

Also, another outfit not being purchased by me. If they start adding armor sets to the actual game like they said they would then I may consider it, but so far nothing new is being added to the game now that armor is confirmed as only being added as acquirable in-game and not in-store.

Pre-Purchase Community Address

Gaile, so what happens to the people that pre ordered the more expensive additions because they wanted ONE character slot for the expansion?

I bought one of the pre-orders that had a slot because I wanted the character slot and figured I might as well get other stuff… Now that the char slot is free, makes me feel a little different about the value of the pre-order.

They will make new races playable in the future and probably won’t be giving a character slot for those.

So save it for later.

That’s fine, a new race without a new class is pointless (imo) as by then I’ll have leveled any available classes beyond a point I’ll be willing to start over. And race change is one thing they have said simply can’t be done.
I realize plenty of people will feel differently so I don’t mean to try to speak for everyone, but I feel a new race should always come at the same time as a new class (though new classes by themselves are fine), really give you something to get into besides replaying an existing class just to look different.

If you are interested in a point of view regarding playable race versus a new profession, I get into my view on that topic at the start of this post.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Why-I-may-not-buy-HoT/5022371
Just if you have any interest in seeing that scenario from the point of view of someone who would prefer a new playable race to a new profession.

Yeah, I realize some people can do that (create a bunch of the same class with just a new race), but for me if there’s not some pressing difference (like a perfectly matched racial skill) I won’t necessarily create another of the same class just for a new race, and I don’t usually bother with both genders either.
A new class I’ll create no problem with an existing race, because race is just aesthetic in most cases, whereas I may or may not create a new race by itself.
But to each their own, I respect that some people don’t see the value in what we know to be coming so far.

Thank you for taking the time to read it and for also leaving an open-minded reply regarding it. I fully understand that many would even prefer there to still be one race (human) and wish more time was spent releasing many more professions. I personally feel that all of the professions are pretty well represented in GW2 and there is not much room left for growth in that direction without massive changes to the existing ones. I think ANet also felt that way regarding professions, hence why we see the adjustments being made to the existing ones with masteries and elite specializations and Revanant filling a final blend of existing professions with a new twist. May be a topic for a different thread now, but I wonder if Revanant will be the last profession under this new progression system, and future professions will simply be expanded capabilities of all the current (+rev) professions instead of entirely new ones. If so, perhaps they will turn toward playable races in future updates/expansions and players that desire more than we currently have will finally see their additions. Time will tell. In the meantime, I hope you thoroughly enjoy the Revenant profession and all of the masteries/specializations. They do seem interesting.

I was just checking out the Bungie/Destiny: Taken King expansion issue and how eerily similar it was sounding to ArenaNet with HoT:

  • Taken King expansion offers much less than the base game but costs the same as a full game ($60), much like HoT($50).
  • Taken King’s price is bloated because it comes with the base game and previous expansions (ANet’s stated roadplan for the future as well) and forces existing owners to have to purchase the base game all over again to get the expansion content, just like HoT. However, ArenaNet claims this is not the case with wordplay stating that “they value” the expansion at $50 and new players get the base game for free when it really seems to have a projected value of more like $25-$35 (max) as an estimate based on what it is has been shown to include and is projected to include.

Just found the parallels interesting and it answers a lot of my questions on where ANet got this idea for their new “roadplan” regarding future expansions and the slimy way of bloating their expansion price under the guise of being for the benefit of new players – Bungie.

Am I the only who refuses to pre-order (and especially pre-purchase) because I consider it to be awful for the gaming industry in general? This announcement doesn’t really change anything for me, so I still won’t be getting it until I know it is worth it. That means I’ll be missing out on the character slot for not pre-purchasing, so I won’t be bothering at all. This ‘deal’ still screws people who wait to find out what they are buying before dumping money on things. As well as all the people who get told the expansion is good and that they should buy it. But I guess you don’t have any faith in your product itself so are trying to get as many pre-purchases as possible before the reviews hit. Call me cynical, but I’m sick of awful games being ‘released’ in half completed states. Even if I have faith in the company I still won’t do it (see: recent controversy over Batman: Arkham Knight). Ya’ll need to listen to TotalBiscuit more.

Oh well. Been a good 10 years Anet.

Wow. If pre-sales end July 31st and the expansion may not release until September sometime, maybe even later than that…

The extra character slot is only granted if you pre-purchase.
But now it seems that they may be stopping pre-sales months before they are even done releasing information on what it is you are pre-purchasing…
This would mean that there is no way anyone can make an informed decision on if the amount of content the expansion contains justifies the price before pre-sales end.

If this is what comes to pass, then…

Wow, ANet. Just, wow.

I still feel it was a bad move to try to sell the expac without a new slot from the beginning, but i’m thankful you are correcting that.
I’m still not sure that the xpac worth its price, but there is nothing wrong about that, nothing force us to pre-purchase it.

Except that it doesn’t really sound like they are correcting that, unless you pre-purchase. If you want to wait until it’s finished and released so that you know exactly what you’re getting, they’re not going to give you a character slot.

I appreciate the response from ANet, and I definitely feel as though it was a positive move, but I don’t think it’s really going to benefit me in any way. I doubt I’ll be willing to purchase HoT until it’s released, and I most definitely will not spend fifty dollars on an expansion pack that doesn’t come with a character slot.

Sigh. Still looks like a no-buy for me at this point. But I’m glad others are pleased.

I find myself in the same situation.

I cannot get the character slot for the new Revenant profession unless I make an uninformed decision and pre-purchase now versus waiting until release where I can judge if $50 is a justified price for what the expansion contains.

If I wait to make an informed decision as a responsible adult then I will need to pay an extra $10 (or 800 gems) to get an additional character slot just to be able to try out the new Revenant profession. I will not do that out of principle. I’m not going to buy an expansion that has a new profession if I then need to pay for a character slot to play this new profession.

I do not like being penalized for being a mature adult that makes smart purchases instead of ‘on faith’, especially when that faith has been shown to have been misplaced in this company several times since GW2 release.

It seems that my purchasing the expansion will be put off even longer now.

  • If the expansion contained enough content to justify the cost, and also included a character slot for the Revenant, then I would purchase on release day.
  • Even if the $50 is justified by the amount of content the expansion includes, I’ll still need to wait until a sale places it below $40 due to the cost of a character slot bumping that back up to $50.
  • As the expansion now does not include a character slot unless you pre-purchase it, the expansion will now need to contain more content than is justified by the price to compensate for the added cost of purchasing a character slot. This is unlikely.
  • If the expansion does not contain enough content to justify the cost, and also does not include a character slot for the Revenant, then I will need to wait until the price matches what the amount of content justifies as well as the cost of a character slot. If the content only justifies a $25 price tag, then the price will need to drop to at least $15 for me to buy it to factor in the additional $10 cost of the character slot I’d need to buy for the Revanant.

ANet, include the character slot for anyone that purchases the expansion, instead of only if they pre-purchase the expansion, and I’ll purchase the game on release day if the content justifies the price. Otherwise, see the above scenarios as to when you can potentially expect my money…if you ever do.

Did Anet foresee HoT price pandemic?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I honestly would not be surprised to discover that the current situation was not only foreseen but orchestrated as a means to implement a “premium” style rewards system similar to the Chinese client.

What better way to add something that you know would drive players away than to instigate a situation where many are literally demanding for something like it to now be added?

This practice has been used throughout history by businesses and governments alike to bring about conditions where, not only are the people no longer actively fighting against something being a certain way, they are actually demanding for it to become that way.

Basically:
Step 1: Make veterans feel like they are not as valued as new players buying the new game version
Step 2: Let the internet blow up over the created situation for 7-10 days
Step 3: Reveal that a “Veteran Appreciation Paths” system will be put in place to help show the veteran players that they are, indeed, valued by the company

  • “Veteran Appreciation Paths” adds paths that grant rewards based on different factors
  • “Cherished Supporter Path” has an incremental list (to get item 5 on the list you first need to buy enough gems to get 1-4) that includes items from a pool of time/RNG-gated gem store and in-game items, no longer available skins (tribal), unlocking NPC exclusive armor skins and outfits, discontinued gem store skins (bunny ears, molten/aetherblade weapon skins), and exclusive alternate versions of gem store skins (white wings)…mainly everything players have been begging for…that are awarded/unlocked for free based on the number of gems purchased with real world money over the life of the account – For those who support the game with real money
  • “Path to the Heart of GW2” path has an incremental list that includes a small pool of exclusive stuff as well as various always-available gem store items of medium to high value that are awarded/unlocked for free based on the number of achievement points earned on the account. Current achievement rewards are integrated into this reward path – For those that support the game through active gameplay.

Or something like that. Who knows. ANet only said that they will never add the premium reward thing that is in China’s client to the NA/EU version of the game. However, they never said anything about never adding any kind of premium reward…just that we will never see one identical to the one used in China. So technically they won’t be lying. Always pay heed to the way statements/promises are worded. In fact, this may have all been a scheme to justify adding one in due to some players now begging for something to show that being a veteran player and supporter of the game means something to ANet.

Who knows. I don’t consider there to be much of anything that can be seen as beneath a company any more when money is on the line.

Each is opinion; to me it’s the worst one. It miss the mark so much it’s not funny.

I stopped reading the Massively article after the first sentence which stated that the HoT expansion is a “huge expansion”. This statement told me all I needed to know about what to expect from the rest of the article.

It is not a “huge expansion” based on what it has been shown so far to include. To state it as being such in the first sentence strips all credibility from any words to follow as any opinions expressed are guaranteed to be biased toward praise and any ‘facts’ stated throughout cannot be believed and will surely be exaggerated. Even extrapolating from the information released to date and being optimistic about what it may include, there is no way the final product could even be referred to as “huge”, let alone the ‘expansion’ as it is shown to be at this point.

$50+ USD for an expansion that includes enough content to justify the price?

  • Fine with me. Take my money. I also thank you for offering a quality product.

$50+ USD for this “expansion” which has not shown that it includes enough content to justify the price?

  • Not a chance. I’ll spend my money elsewhere, hang on to it until they show that it contains enough content to justify the price, or wait until it is a price that is more reasonable for the amount of content it contains before purchasing it.

That’s what I’m doing anyway. I don’t care what everyone else does with their money as that’s none of my business. Even if their buying the overpriced product supports and reinforces the marketing strategy and despicable business practices I will not support, it is not my business as it is not my money or place to dictate on what items and at what prices others should spend their money.

Character slots increased with expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

StinVec.3621

Without a source, Blueblob, I recommend disregarding the above commenter as likely trolling.

Maximum slots per account is likely to remain at 64. I’ve not seen anything mentioned anywhere of plans to increase the maximum slot number. If you already have 64, then it is unlikely to add an additional slot despite your purchase awarding you one. Just as if you have the maximum bank tabs unlocked on your account and purchase another, it will not add another bank slot. It that situation you’d need to contact support directly and request a refund for the gems spent on that bank tab. But in pre-ordering HoT, I doubt they can supply a refund for the equivalent of the character slot due to your being at the maximum. You would need to contact them directly and inquire about that situation.

Please tell me if HoT is worth $50...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I agree with you, OP, and Ardenwolfe. For what it is shown to include, $15-20 USD is about the most it is worth to me as there is not a whole lot that would interest me planned to be included with it.

I, too, do not take part in the guild aspect of the game, nor wvw, nor pvp. I enjoy exploring expansive, gimmick-free open world zones with many characters of different races and professions after having equipped them and designed their appearances as I desired – exactly what the base game offered and provided. The “expansion” does not look to offer any new playable races, or even offer more expansive, gimmick-free open world zones. It only appears to offer an interesting profession that may or may not be enjoyable. Couple this new profession with the recently announced “changes” to existing professions, and it leaves me completely questioning if I should consider spending time learning a new profession, let alone it also causing me to question if I really want to spend time relearning all of the existing professions, reacquiring many skills I currently have that are being taken away, and re-equipping and re-outfitting every single one of my many characters to function and appear as I have them currently…all to be able to enjoy playing in the same open world areas that I have been for nearly 3 years. No, $50 does not seem to be a justifiable price in my mind for what it is being shown to include, especially when looked at from the point of view that the additional, negative changes being made to the base game discourage me from continuing on with the existing content and longer.

Yeah. As a person with a personal guild, it’s kind of concerning. I wasn’t planning on trying to get a guild hall for my personal guild. It’s just for extra bank space. How are the personal guilds supposed to upgrade it to get the vaults in this new system?

Do you really think they want you using personal guilds for storage instead of buying more storage space from the gemshop?

They outright stated on these very forums to do this back when the wallet was being implemented and they were removing the ability to store gold in your personal bank. They said to create and use a personal guild for storage – this includes storing gold.

June 23 Specialization Changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I just cannot comprehend why they would do all of this, and before the release of HoT no less.

It’s almost as if they are intentionally trying to destroy as many game modes and professions as possible prior to HoT release. It’s almost as if their intention is to drive as many of their players as possible past their breaking point of how many beatings they will accept before giving up completely and leave right before the “expansion” gets released. Do they actually want as few people to buy it as possible? These changes are intentional and final…and the great majority are bad. What do they expect to happen? It’s very likely that what they expect to happen is exactly what they can count on happening; some (many?) players finally just give up and quit for good.

Constantly messing with everything that a player understands and is used to and giving it a complete overhaul (yet again), and not in a good way (yet again), can only end badly. A person will only take so much before enough is enough.

If “some players possibly quitting for good” actually turns out to be “a lot of players definitely quitting for good”, then sales of HoT will not be anything like what it may have been had these “changes” not been forced onto the playerbase.

For me, what little interest I had in HoT (sig) is practically dead. But now even the base game that I quite enjoy is being further destroyed in a single patch that sees every profession being utterly destroyed in some way.

  • From my point of view, they’re telling me to not play the base game any longer. (they’ve been telling me this for quite a while through their changing and destroying every aspect of the game that I enjoyed)
  • They’re also telling me to not buy their supposed “expansion” as it does not offer the things that would interest me for well over twice what it is worth for what they’ve shown it to include.

It makes me so disappointed to see what they’ve done to the game. It is almost as if they saw what other game companies were doing that resulted in their literally killing their games and were like, “Fantastic! We want to kill our game too! Thank you, other-companies-that-do-not-want-people-to-play-their-games, for showing us the most effective way to do it!” And they’re doing it. Actually, they’ve been doing it for quite a while.

I also guess players abandoning ship was going too slowly for them and they needed to jump ahead to drive home the last nails for the coffin to push the last few hopeful players off of their fences by forcing everyone who owns the game to have to buy the game yet again just for the expansion. $20, maybe, for what it has been shown to include.

That’s it for me. They’ve pretty much killed the base game with their “changes” and the next day basically tell people to not buy the expansion unless you enjoy being taken advantage of or are not able to see a rip off designed by the greed machine when it stares you in the face. May pick it up one day when it’s down to an honest price for what it offers. As it is now, you can keep it. Those that do stick around…well, I hope you have fun.

If you open your chat box to its expanded opaque view (F9 I think is default), you will see a drop down menu on each chat tab. Select this menu to enable or disable the various messages. One is marked as loot, I believe. Loot listings may be included in “Game Messages” or something. I don’t recall exactly as it’s been a while. Not a real detailed reply to your question, just figured nobody else responded yet and I would give some kind of reply before crashing. If you need more specific details just say so.

Trading Post UI bugged?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I experienced this undesired and abnormal behavior as well.

I also experienced an issue that I consider serious:

If you select an item via inventory or the TP item lists and load its buy screen, 1 out of every 4 or 5 times it will automatically select dozens of the listings that are for sale. Taking note of the current quantity box it says “1”, but if you look at the price then it shows dozens of gold as being the price all those auto-selected items will cost.

So if you quickly go to buy an item and load its item page, obviously it should default to buying only 1, especially due to it even saying “1” in the quantity box. But if you do not notice it as having auto-selected dozens of items and hit buy, then you just bought dozens (or hundreds) of gold worth of the item despite it saying you’d be buying 1. Already got me once when I first loaded up the TP after the update.

So, here’s the warning until it gets fixed: Make sure to deselect all of the auto-selected items even if the quantity box says 1, or manually select only the top listing to force there to be only 1 item selected before hitting buy. Or reload the item page and hope it does not re-select all those items again and you get an unbugged page.

Opening an item’s trading page and hitting buy should only buy 1 of that item…not dozens (or hundreds) of gold worth of the item due to it auto-selecting half of the listed items for sale while still showing you as only buying 1 of the item in the quantity box.

I’ll screenshot it later, or maybe even record a video of it.

The quickest and easiest way to locate missing map elements is to:

  • Hit F11 to open your options
  • Select the Content Guide drop down menu (5th dropdown at the top)
  • Change this to ‘Disable Personal Story’

Now your content guide in the top right of your screen (default location) will point an arrow in the direction of the closest missing map element. If you happen to have only a single Heart missing that you have not uncovered, it will still point you directly to where it is so you can uncover it and complete it.

excessive msg trigger on linked accts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

The game definitely sees accounts as linked, because when opening the TP, it can show you what you last viewed on one account, even though you are on the other.

There have been other anecdotes posted on the forums about one account’s actions affecting a secondary account, as well.

Regardless, whether ArenaNet wants to implement anything in-game or out regarding said ‘link’, now or in the future, is unknown.

Just wanted to mention that the TP item view history is not a sign of account linking, but rather that the history is stored in a file that is used by the installation regardless of what account is logging in on the computer.

There are several files that have this behavior. Regardless of what account is logged in on the client, the files that contain these histories and settings are linked to the installation, not to the multiple accounts using the same computer.

Another example is of two different accounts using the same computer will both have the same graphics and control settings, due to it all being stored in a file and not a different copy of the file for each account that logs in from the client. Many of the instances cited around the forums to support a claim that two GW2 accounts are linked are easily explained by these files retaining the settings across logins, regardless of if it is a different account logging in as it is still the same installation on the same computer.

Gem Store shelves empty, warehouse is full?

I do realize that I do not have the degrees in or ‘hands-on’ experience with the subject matter that those employed by ArenaNet to govern the monetization platform do, nor am I privy to the metrics they use to determine their course of action. Perhaps it really is more profitable for them to release items in a temporary fashion as they have done and continue to do. I cannot imagine they would continue behavior that was not as profitable as an alternative.

Gem Store shelves empty, warehouse is full?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

All of these comments on making them unavailable so when they do become available they will likely sell like hot cakes is not logical for a game like GW2 with a Buy To Play model.

People stop playing for weeks and months and then come back all the time – exactly what the B2P model flaunts as something players are able to do. If the stuff is not for sale for the time that these people are back, then it obviously cannot be bought by these players.

If the stuff is made available again temporarily while a person is not actively playing, then obviously it will continue to not be bought by these players.

With a B2P model and the gem store in its current implementation, it would be more logical and profitable to have all items available at all times. This would mean people who come back to the game for some undetermined amount of time could at least have the items available in case they wanted to buy them.

As it is now, a player who comes and goes from the game can only throw their money at ANet if their time of being an active player happens to coincide with the temporary re-release of these items. Were these things available all the time, then even if the person only comes back for a day, there is still the chance that they would purchase them, especially due to the account unlock nature of many temporary items. Even if a player were not going to come back for 6 months, they may still consider getting these account unlock items (like skins for the wardrobe) simply because they know they’ll still have it in 6 months when they do come back.

ANet’s temporarily available gem store item strategy is not in line with their strategy of offering game content that does not penalize a player for taking time off from the game. Players are, indeed, penalized for not actively playing by the inability to purchase items while they are active that were temporarily made available while they were not active.

GW2 was once praised for being a game where players could hop back into it after long periods of inactivity and pick up where they left off and not be at any form of a disadvantage to other players who did not take time off from playing. I do not believe this only relates to the gear grind present in other (subscription) games, where you were at a combat disadvantage due to being outfitted with inferior armor and weapons, but to all released content…appearance unlocks, convenience items, luxury items and account unlocks, etc.

At least they finally started offering all of the infinite gathering tools all the time instead of being temporarily available items. Perhaps they are slowly coming to the realization that what I’ve outlined above is a more profitable method of selling items.

Sacrifice all teh lamps!
