  1. Copper-fed Salvage-o-matic
  2. Watchwork Mining Pick (for the sprockets it produces)

Conditionals:

  • The Other tools
An additional infinite harvesting and logging tool just to remove the need to pick up any tools whatsoever. Harvesting/Logging tools offer no additional items upon use, but it’s nice to have a complete set of infinite tools.
  • Storage Space
Based on the cost for purchase and the amount of storage slots the purchase provides, a character slot unlocks more storage slots if you use the character as a storage mule outfitted with large bags versus getting a single bank tab expansion.
    -
I personally recommend character slots over bank tabs, but I do not mind the time it takes having to switch to said mule to get the item instead of it sitting in my bank.
    -
If you want the items available directly from the bank and do not want to deal with remembering which mule is holding onto what items and then having to retrieve said item from a mule when you want it, go with a bank expansion.
    -
I also recommend a personal storage guild for storing non-account bound materials (and items) instead of getting the collection expanders. The expanders only increase the collections stacks by 250 with each purchase, whereas an entire guild vault (and deep storage if you train it up) can hold many stacks of items. It is especially useful if you have many stacks of the same material, which the collection tab can only be increased to hold a max of a few additional stacks of that single item. You can also be in 5 guilds at one time. If you are not in a guild that requires 100% representation, having several personal guilds is a great way to store non-account bound materials and items. There is a down side that any materials and items in a personal guild vault will not be replaced if you were to ever be hacked, only your personal account items would be. You must also be careful not to accidentally leave your personal guild with items in the vault as those items are destroyed along with the guild if you leave it. However, if you and your wife both join the guild, this would protect you if one of you accidentally clicks to leave the guild as the guild will remain and the one that accidentally left can be invited back in again.
  • Permanent Captain’s Airship Pass
There are many people in the cities that insist on doing anything and everything possible to annoy others, so that was my primary reason for getting this pass as it takes you to a much quieter area to interact with the TP/Bank and other services. There are still people that come on there and insist on their antics to annoy, but not nearly as many. A bonus is that all of the services are right next to each other, so no need to run for a while to get to the next service you need to use, or to even step foot in LA again due to there being a mystic forge as well as access to all racial cities on the airship.
    -
I recommend the Captain’s Airship over the Queen’s Royal Terrace as people who do not have access to the Airship cannot stand outside of it and annoy those that are inside due to flying up in the air. In the Queen’s Terrace, there is only a short wall separating you from the annoyers outside of it. You cannot escape them. I would often see them hanging around right outside of the QT with their wintersday bells, musical instruments, and other items of noise-making annoyance that they spam non-stop to annoy those that are inside of the restricted area. On the Airship, if you do not have the pass, you cannot interact with anyone that is on-board in any fashion.

Odd things that break your immersion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

For me, the biggest thing that breaks my immersion is the pet swap mechanic on my rangers.

It completely destroys any sense of my immersion when my current pet simply pops out of existence and is suddenly replaced with a different one. Even if my pet dies (temporarily, because magic), it’s only one molecular rearrangement and spatial repositioning relative to my location away from living again in the form of another animal, possibly of another species. Where exactly am I pulling this single tag-team replacement pet out of? Is it hanging out in an invisible nano-sized knapsack on my back that magically swaps places with my currently materialized pet?

So glad I don’t bother giving any of them names anymore due to names for pets being pretty much a worthless and unfinished feature where naming them is pretty pointless. They’ll be dead in 3 seconds anyway. Though they are quite useful for helping me recover from downed state. How? I have no idea. I’m in pain on the ground and I whistle or something, which causes my pet to simply stand near/on my injured body and this somehow heals my wounds. Just as confusing and immersion breaking is how my outreached hand somehow mends my broken body, as well as my stretching my hand outward toward an ore node underwater mines the rock…when the pick is on my other hand completely unused.

Oh magic, you crazy.

Also, if I have all of these pets, why am I only using one of them at a time instead of sicking all of them on my enemy at the same time?

Why not have skill sets fror each mode?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I will point to ele since it is the most recent nerfs to come out of this “balance around 1 gamemode” type balancing. Dagger Dagger is blatantly too strong in PvP, nobody is arguing this. However it is only a niche build in both WvW and PvE where staff dominates BOTH styles of gameplay. Nerfing the build in general rather than nerfing it within a specific mode has adverse effects on all builds across all gamemodes. Dagger Dagger was largely not an issue in PvE obviously and in World v World the hard CC of Staff Ele was a lot more useful for the group than a Dagger Dagger build unless you were in a very small roaming group. For your average player they will not understand why something is nerfed based on one competitive game mode in a game with 3 game modes. This is not good for the playerbase as discontent leads to quitting. Now, the nerf may be absolutely necessary in PvP but how do you explain to WvW and PvE that now a build that was only meh in those modes is now even more meh and they must play Staff to be effective.

Having seperate balances for gamemodes solves this problem as you can change balance without adversely affecting playerbases who do not participate nor care to participate in one of the 3 gamemodes.

You can argue “but you can already play what you want” though the problem is that now the group suffers because of one person’s want to play a certain style. This is absolutely devastating in World v World where going down is hard punished with multiple rallies for the enemy guild.

Exactly. A new player comes in, plays a D/D elementalist in PVE because it works for them (not everyone goes for the most optimized stats, some look for what is fun). Suddenly it gets reduced because it was too powerful in PVP … a mode they do not care about. This happens every few months. Eventually they leave because they can never count on something that was their fave one day will work the same way the next … and have nothing to do how they play the game.

This is the exact reason why I ditched my level 55-ish ele over 2 years ago. It was so much fun playing it and combat was great. Then they made a balance change because it was too powerful in PvP. This change in PvP forced onto me in PvE left me extremely weak in combat and changed how all of the skills felt and destroyed the playstyle I spent a long time developing and getting used to. I finally had a great feel for the profession and was having fun, then they gutted it for me and I would basically need to start learning the profession all over again.

I don’t play PvP, I only romp around and adventure in the PvE world. All this nerf forced onto PvE for the sake of PvP did was tell me they didn’t want me to enjoy playing my ele anymore. I didn’t touch ele again until last week when I thought I might give it another shot. It isn’t as bad as they had made it that while ago, but it’s still nowhere near as fun as it had been back before they started messing it up for the sake of PvP. :\

I’m still very disappointed that they insist on ‘balancing’ the game in this completely illogical fashion, seemingly because it’s easier for them and takes less effort than actually balancing the game modes for real.

NEW PETS!!!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

To StinVec.

Remember that in SPVP all pets are automatically unlocked for all rangers, even the Hall of Monuments pets that you are suppose to unlock from GW1. It seems probable that the HoT exclusive pets will be available in SPVP but if you want them in the rest of the game you need to buy the game and go tame them just like everyone else.

Ah, that’s a very good point. Thank you for reminding me of that being the case for pets in PvP, Ehecatl.

I suppose saying the new pets are available to all rangers is not incorrect as they are available to non-HoT rangers, but only in PvP. Makes sense. I didn’t think of that.

If that is exactly the case, I hope I do not need to start mentally placing an asterisk next to information like this that they release – kind of like:
“And this is for all* rangers, not just the druid.”

  • HoT pets only available in PvP for rangers on accounts that do not own HoT

Maybe I’m just sensitive to the words being used in these information dumps and I shouldn’t be surprised to see everything new as requiring HoT, even new ranger pets that we have been begging for several years to get. :\

I interpreted it to mean you didn’t need to acquire the druid elite specialization to get the new pets… but that needing the expansion to get them was a given.

That does sound most likely to be the case. Thank you for your thoughts on the matter as well.

Auto unlocking them would seem pretty immersion breaking to me

Oh, I completely agree. This is why I am confused on exactly how they would plan to add them to the base ranger pet selection if the base ranger cannot enter into HoT areas to charm them. Their stating that base rangers “get them” too is throwing all kinds of confusion at me. I’m hoping for some clarification on it.

EDIT:
Modified my post to remove the auto-unlocking portion as I missed the part where Irenio said “they can acquire these new pets”, which would mean they are acquired and not auto-unlocked.

NEW PETS!!!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

It was mentioned in the twitch stream that the new pets are not only for the Druid elite spec, but “for all rangers” as well.

https://youtu.be/K2ZHhJQn0B8?t=1650

Irenio – “’There are new pets that will be available in Heart of Thorns.”
Rubi – “And this is for all rangers, not just the druid.”
Irenio – “That’s right. This is kind of the thing that all rangers are getting access to in the Heart of Thorns.”

This is confusing to me. How can it be “all rangers” if the new pets are only available in HoT areas for those that own HoT? It would not be for all rangers, it would be only for rangers that own HoT.

As the juvenile form of the pet needs to be charmed, a regular ranger would not be able to get them as the juvenile form would only be available in HoT-only areas.

@Gaile (hiya, Gaile!)

  • Is this just incomplete information given during the twitch stream by Rubi and Irenio or incorrect words used?
  • Do the new pets actually require HoT and the Druid elite specialization unlocked to get them, but once gotten they can be used by non-druid rangers?
  • Or is it as it came off as being – that HoT is not required to get the new pets as it was said that all rangers will have access to them?
  • And if they are available to all rangers, does this possibly mean that pact Tyria will be seeing Mordrem and the juveniles of the new pets for base rangers to charm so base rangers can charm them outside of HoT-only content areas?

Guild Chestplate display messed up

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Absolutely!

I’ve noticed this issue with the guild armor as well. It even happens on the guild backpack.

The guild emblem should be a type of decal that goes on top of the armor’s texture. Apparently it is not being applied as a decal and is instead being merged into the armor texture. Due to their basically making half of an item and then mirroring it to the other side, only half of the guild emblem is visible and this half is being mirrored onto the other half.

As it is, there is no point in wearing guild armor. Even if the resulting emblem can look pretty cool (as it does in your shot), it is still not your guild emblem, which is a source of pride for the guild and its community.

Hopefully they will correct this issue.

3rd birthday dye pack

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

  • You acquired the Molten Dye pack on a character
  • You then opened and selected the Charred dye from that pack with either the same or a different character and received an account bound dye
  • You activated the dye to unlock it for the account on either the same character that received it or a different character

Even if you receive the account bound dye on one character, but activated it on a different character, it would still unlock for the account.

As all dyes exist in the dye tab, the Charred dye is somewhere in there and is either locked (lock icon) or unlocked. Is the Charred dye in your dye tab unlocked or does it still have the lock icon on it?

Instead of scouring the dyes to find it, simply use the ‘Search’ area above the dye listings and type ‘Charred’ to quickly locate the Charred dye.

Does it still have the locked icon in your dye listing for your characters despite your having unlocked it by consuming the account bound dye you received?

Underwater play. Grrr

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I quite enjoy underwater exploration, design, movement controls and combat with each of the professions.

In fact, this is the only game where I enjoy underwater as much as land. I wish there was a lot more of it and that it would receive the development that I feel it deserves.

I was quite disappointed to see their decision to no longer release aquatic weaponry in the black lion weapon sets. Those were the main ones I would look to acquire from sets.

GW1 Winds of Change and GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I’m talking about the Winds of Change storyline, and how it connects to GW2.

Indeed. Their response really does not have any relation to the question that was posed…
It basically equates to your asking for a list of the ingredients in a McDonald’s hamburger and their responding with giving you a10% off coupon for a hamburger at Wendy’s that is expired. Both the question and the coupon involve the word hamburger so it’s relevant! -_-

I’m sorry, Penguin, I have not seen anything related to the Winds of Change storyline from GW1 in GW2. Not yet, anyway.

TP UI very slow

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

It’s not. Anything we built like that would lose all your settings after each patch at the moment like Evon Gnashblade mode. Each option also increases the development/testing time exponentially and it’s not something we’re able to support with our current workload.

I see. I completely understand and appreciate the reasons you’ve stated for this not being possible for development at this time.

As an end user, it is nice to know that I can tuck my hope for such a feature away into a ‘maybe one day in the far future’ pile and not as something that we may log in on a random Tuesday and be surprised to discover has been implemented.

Thank you very much for letting us know. And again, thank you for all the effort dedicated to resolving the issues many of us were having with the trading post. It is a joy to use once again, instead of being something that brought dread.

TP UI very slow

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Auto-focus was a workaround for some technical limitations that we believe are fixed, so yes, we should be able to remove it sometime here.

That’s nice to hear that auto-focus may be able to be disabled sometime for those that do not like it, but please consider adding in a way for the trading post to have a persistent settings area similar to the inventory with its ‘gear’ icon so those that want auto-focus on can select to have it on.

I think it would be worth the extra effort to add in such an option so those that dislike it can disable it, but those that do like it can keep it on. Perhaps have a ‘Settings’ tab where the ‘Field Auto-focus’ option can be toggled on or off, as well as other settings – such as:

UI Interaction:
[ x ] Price/Quantity Auto-Focus On Hover

Search Results:
[ x ] Hide Items Whose Skin Is Unlocked
[ x ] Hide Miniatures That Are Unlocked
[ x ] Hide Dyes That Are Unlocked

There are many, many more suggestions and requests on the forums of desired options that would be perfect for such a TP Settings tab.

I would gladly scour the forums for you and compile a list of them for you to peruse for viability if this TP settings tab is something that you believe could be implemented and would consider offering. I know many would love such a QoL feature.

Problem:

Huge lag since F2P patch (mostly in PvP).

Solution:

Stop with HOT and fix the core game instead.

PS: No I don’t have a bad connection neither a computer from the stone age…

What are the stats for your computer?
What settings do you have enabled?

Indeed. Crucial details to include if they actually intend for their issue to get resolved. Then again, they technically have not asked for help yet, so maybe they are content with experiencing their lag issue. However, if they’d be willing to give some more details on their problem, here are some more that would help pinpoint the issue(s).

FOX, there are several different kinds of lag, each with their own root causes.

  • What kind of lag are you experiencing? Graphical, data, input, connection? All or some of them at different times?
  • You mentioned “mostly in PvP”, so I take it that it is not a constant issue and comes and goes intermittently in different scenarios and situations. What are some specific situations where you encounter this lag?
  • Do you experience this exact issue in other online games?
  • Have you tried contacting GW2 support to see if they can help you? Or even requested help in the technical support sub-forum? Or have you sat in silence on the issue you are experiencing until making this thread?

Answering these may help.

Otherwise, I’d quote FOX with their own words:

Anet for the 19.737.928 time, close useless topics like this faster!

TP UI - My Latest Trades - Missing Element

Ahh, so am I the only one the font changed size on? I didn’t change anything in options, or elsewhere.

I didn’t look at the sell window, but nice they fixed that, though it never was a problem for me.

I’ve noticed the font becoming slightly smaller after some patches several times in the past, though others did not experience it. It would then return to its normal size with the next patch. I’m not sure exactly what causes that font issue, but I am not experiencing it again yet.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Oh, what are the ‘fixes’? The only thing I noticed recently (about a week ago) was the font size changed (to be smaller) for some odd reason. I don’t really like it, but not important enough to lament.

Its much faster an more responsive again, also the focus for the mouse scrollwheel
now again works correct

That was a big one. I’m glad they adjusted how the pop up displays so everything is responsive again.

They had also fixed the scroll bar element not being dismissed and creating an interactive dead zone, as well as the hit boxes for the G-S-C being offset from the fields which led to struggling to increase the desired coinage.

Thank you for letting me know the bought/sold missing is not only for me. I just happen to use it frequently when trading to keep immediate note of items I need to replenish right away instead of browsing the sold history constantly.

Is anyone else experiencing this bought/sold element missing or do some people still see it?

I’ll run a cache cleaning in a bit to see if it is a local problem unless others mention they, too, are missing this element.

The TP UI really is back to its normal, speedy self!
Thank you for tackling this issue! I’m overjoyed to be able to interact with it at a normal pace once again!

I believe I see that you have opted for the background listing screen to hide temporarily when a pop up is being displayed instead of the pop up overlaying on top of it. Perhaps this is what was causing the issue, some kind of layered animation and updating bogging down the animation and interaction with the pop ups.

How do I report a guild/pet name?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

This. Something may not personally offend me, but if I believe that it’s against the ToS I will report it.

I would suggest only reporting things that you know for a fact are against the ToS, and not things you believe are against the ToS.

That’s not our job.

post trading post maintenance

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

StinVec.3621

Indeed, it is adware/malware that you have.

Another player mentioned being infected with this a bit over two weeks ago. This was my response to them and it helped clear up the infection on their computer:

“Ads by DNS Unlocker” (as you can see at the bottom of the pop-up) is adware that your computer is infected with.

If it was installed as part of bundled software that you intentionally installed, though didn’t realize it would install this additional adware, then it should be listed in your add/remove programs software list where you can uninstall it. If it was installed maliciously as part of a virus, spyware or malware infection, you’ll need to clean your computer more thoroughly than simply uninstalling it.

Immediately clean your computer!

  • First check if “DNS Unlocker” has an uninstall listing in your computer’s add/remove programs list. If so, proceed to uninstall it.

Further cleaning that is recommended:

  • Check your web browser(s) for any installed extensions that are adware, like DNS Unlocker is, and remove the extension(s) from your web browser(s)
  • Run a full scan with your anti-virus program
  • Download, install and run an AdWare removal program, such as AdwCleaner, AdAware, SpyBot
  • Follow that up with downloading, installing and running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Usually, if one virus has found its way onto your computer, there are sure to be more. Depending on what viruses or malware are found, after cleaning your computer thoroughly, you may want to change your passwords for your email and various login accounts. Do not change them prior to cleaning or your new passwords will likely be compromised and you would need to do it all over again.

I recommend that you follow the same steps to clean the infection from yours and see if that resolves your gem store issue.

My disappointment with guilds :/

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Your expected version is exactly how my guild in Rift functioned back when I played it long before it became free-to-play. It was awesome.

I’ve not experienced anything like that in 3 years of guild searching in GW2.
As such, I remain guildless and a primarily solo player with very little dungeon experience (I like playing ranger) or dungeon skins unlocked (sig).

It may come down to roles. Other MMORPGs have roles that serve distinct group functions that can be filled or assigned to specific individuals.
e.g. For a 5-man dungeon
JavaSmiter is the primary tank healer
FlankStyle is Ranged-Damage Slot 1
InnerFace is Melee-Damage Slot 1
etcetera

You would think that having a game where everyone fills all the roles at the same time would make for dungeon runs to be more easily put together. Anyone can be anything, no more relying on or waiting for JavaSmiter to get online, or if they have something come up and cannot take part then the run is off for the night. Instead, anyone can fill the spot since each spot is identical to the other spots and do not require a special class/profession to succeed.

However, guild dungeon runs in GW2 seem to be reliant on using specific tactics within the dungeons instead of on filling the roles to do the dungeon in the first place. Basically, if you want to do the dungeon with a guild then it basically requires skipping everything that can be skipped, abusing ‘exploits’, bugs and cheap AI limitations to get the most rewards possible in as little time as possible. Basically, skip trash, stack bosses or abuse AI Line of Sight, and even exploit a bug that allows running two paths of a dungeon at the same time.

Dungeon running in GW2 really is a disappointment. Or rather, the guilds and players that require dungeons to be run in the above fashion or not at all are a disappointment. And in my experiences, this cheap fashion seems to be the only way guilds run them. :\

Druid has been removed?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

when exactly is the druid reveal? since gw seems to have several spots at twitch con… is it on the 25th at 3pm pst or?

ArenaNet only has the stage for 15 minutes from 3-3:15 at TwitchCon on the 25th. They’ll probably show the trailer there. Druid reveal might be on the first episode of the newly assumed web series of streams. Don’t know when that will be. Probably won’t see druid this week.

Nicknobreak is correct. ArenaNet only has 15 minutes of TwitchCon live stage coverage, so they are unlikely to make any form of new announcement or reveal. However, they also have a booth for two full days of the convention that I am sure will be streaming some kind of content on the GuildWars2 twitch channel.

It is certainly possible that they will be streaming the detailed info on the Druid during that time if they do not hold that info over for revealing on this supposed new web series.

If they do happen to make some form of non-Druid related announcement of new content in their 15 minute live coverage window, they may then go into more detailed info on such content in their official booth stream.

Twitch rant:
It’s a shame that Twitch still requires Flash to display their videos instead of the safer alternatives. Many people no longer even have Flash installed on their systems as it is well on its way out of being used due to its persistent security issues. Perhaps they’ll finally move on from Flash one day and get with the times.

Even when I did use Flash, Twitch video streams would only display in their highest resolution and could not be made to display in lower quality so those with slower net speeds could actually watch and follow anything that is being talked about or shown.

This means needing to wait for a YouTube version of the stream so the video can be viewed with a non-Flash player that offers quality options.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks it looks like a person crawling!

I really had to struggle to see it as a flag after someone told me that’s what it was.

I guess if it were more like an actual 4-cornered flag that was waving it would not be likely to be mistaken for something else. Due to being a pennant flag that is waving, I see why it appears to not be a flag – pennant flags are normally rigid and do not ‘wave’ as a 4-cornered flag does.

I think an exclamation mark would be a better report icon and I believe is the standard and common one used on forums, not a waving pennant flag.

Keyboard / Mouse/ Etc. Position

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I use the arrow keys for movement instead of the w,a,s,d keys. I find those to be quite awkward to use due to their being offset from each other and also smothered by so many other keys. I have my keyboard offset to the left of my monitor so I, too, have to lean over to my left to type. I do not mind it and I rarely type while gaming so it is not much of an issue for me.

I’m sorry that I cannot offer an alternative position to place your keyboard at that would remain comfortable for typing as well as for movement controls.

The only alternatives I can come up with would be to:

  • use the left side of the keyboard for movement (w,a,s,d), which I understand may not be desirable (I refuse to)
  • Place the keyboard in front as normal for direct access to typing and then acquire a gaming pad that is small and has arrow/movement and function keys that you can place wherever you find comfortable. This way you can keep your movement and function keys where you desire and easily switch to the big keyboard to type.

Some gaming pads to consider:
Logitech G13 ($60)
Razer Orbweaver ($100)
DELUX-T9 ($40)

But there are others out there also.

Just go to that post and click on the icon that looks like a little crawly person (allegedly that’s a flag). A panel will open and you can type a message there that goes directly to the moderator.

Druid has been removed?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I predict that they will announce:

  • Druid will have an alternate profession mechanic to the pet
(maybe the two mechanics can be swapped while out of combat)
  • Playable tengu

(I will literally dance to hearing either of these as being true)

Wishing thinking, but I am hoping that they didn’t include tengu sooner in HoT inclusion details because they were not sure if they could get it finished in time for release and they now know that they can (or did) finish it in time.

Playable tengu and/or non-pet ranger elite spec could be the final bits that can push many more people to pre-purchase or buy on day 1 who might not otherwise. I know I would if these unlikely desires come true.

EDIT:
Yeah, I believe I need to completely scrap my prediction.

15 minutes is barely enough time to say anything, let alone give detailed or hype-filled information on one or both of my wishes. Oh well. It would’ve been nice to be get excited for something in GW2 again. :\

Have bug with launcher download

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

First, I strongly urge you to remove your attached image and edit out your email address.

Second, ensure that the game is being run as Administrator in the game shortcut’s right-click > Properties > Compatibility tab (at the bottom there).

If running it as an Admin does not solve the issue:
Is your game installed on your C: drive?
If so, is it installed to “C:\Program Files” or “C:\Program Files (x86)”?
If so, make sure your game/launcher is closed and then try to move (cut>paste) this installation out of the program files folder and directly to the “C:\” drive, or even a “C:\Games\” directory.

The Program Files folders are handled differently that other areas of your drive by Windows and there can be a permissions issue there. Relocating it to another location can correct these issues.

Relocating the installation will also break your desktop shortcut. You should correct its path in its properties to the new exe location or simply make a new shortcut.

Kittens!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I’ve written ‘kitten’ before. I’ve also been puzzled when it kitten’s things like the word ‘etc.’ followed by the word ‘until’ (etkittenil). always stop and figure out why.

yeah, the filter is WAY overzealous.

for example, it censors “a colloquial name for cleavage that is also shared with a bird”

fair enough.

it also censors any word ending in t if the next word is “it’s”.

in other words, we can’t use the contractions of the terms “could it not?” “should it not?” “would it not?” “can it not?” or “must it not?”, instead coming out as “couldn’kitten” “shouldn’kitten”, “wouldn’kitten”, “can’kitten” and “mustn’kitten”

The inconsistency of the filter across different sub-forums is very odd.

In this recent post in the HoT sub-forum, “wouldn’t it” is used, but it is not filtered, whereas your writing of it here in this sub-forum is.

Also wouldn’t it be logical for an elder dragon to create instead of corrupt? Elder dragons are not dumb, so learning from the mistakes of zhaitan is not illogical. One of the things the pact did was negating the ability to corrupt (with the krait orb and destroying the ship full of corpses).

Very odd. Even my writing of it up there is no longer being censored. Perhaps this thread finally brought enough attention to this problem that they have finally added an exception for this!

If they are in a row like this, they are not censored:
Wouldn’t it Couldn’t it Shouldn’t it Can’t it Mustn’t it

But set apart they are:
Wouldn’kitten
Couldn’kitten
Shouldn’kitten
Can’kitten
Mustn’t it

Most of them are, anyway.

TP UI very slow

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

To help visualize the problem for those that do not seem to be experiencing this issue and to help the devs fix it, here is a gif showing some of the trade window lag.

As you can see, there is quite a delay. I believe it may have something to do with the UI constantly spamming the “Match this buyer’s price.” and “Match this seller’s price.” pop ups.

The slightest movement of the mouse, even while remaining above a single listing, causes these pop ups to pop in and out repeatedly and seemingly for every pixel you cross over.

This constant spamming of the pop up may be the root cause of the trade window lag we are experiencing.

@DEVS
Can these pop ups please be limited to only displaying once per hover on a listing, or a single pop up for the entire listing area instead of constantly popping up with every pixel the mouse moves across in the listing area? I am fairly certain that this will help reduce the issue with lag in the lower portion of the trade pop up window. As for the rest of the laggy TP UI, I have no clue.

(the gif does not do the issue justice and I think it is sped up a bit due to frames per second in the gif – it’s much, much worse of a delay than it shows)

Also, the Storage Expander is an account unlock. As such, it is not a giftable item even if it were to be on sale.

ArenaNet: Are these items obsolete now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Suggestion to ANet: when quest or event items become obsolete, either because the event is over and not going to be repeated or the quest chain objective has been completed (as in the case of the Star of Gratitude quest line), associated quest items disappear from player inventory. Bag/Bank space is premium so it would be really, really great if a feature like this could be implemented.

I know of several players who intentionally save all of these various mementos. Some items have automatically disappeared and have upset some players who hang on to such items.

I believe it would be better to simply add a red-text notice on the item’s description after an even finishes and the item no longer has any use stating:

  • This item no longer has any usefulness and is safe to destroy or sell.

This way, players who like to hang on to things from past events can. As it is, some items cannot be gotten again and were automatically removed from player inventories. They’re almost like trophies of accomplishments and keepsakes to show “I was there” and having them get automatically destroyed would not be ideal.

Very nice information you’ve put together for everyone, Behellagh. I miss seeing your charts that you would post often back in the BLTC sub-forum. I always found them to be quite informative.

I’ve always used the gold cost of a full T3 cultural gear armor set as the basis for what I consider a reasonable price when converting gold into gems. As armor skin sets were the main items I purchased from the gem store, I always equated 800 gems (the cost of an armor skin set) to be equal to about 125 gold (the cost of a full T3 cultural armor skin set).

Then again, I also base many other in-game purchases around the cost of a T3 armor set. (e.g. If I want a BL weapon skin, does the skin have potential to be used at least 6 times across my existing characters, just as how a full armor set is six pieces that would be used, if so, it would be worth the 125g for the one skin)

Due to my pretty much already having all of the gem store armor skins, and their no longer releasing armor sets on the gem store, I will likely need to re-evaluate the value I place on gold in relation to converting to gems. One problem I face in this task is that I feel most things in the gem store are overpriced, which is why I tend to wait for an item to go on sale before I consider purchasing it. Another problem is, there really aren’t any in-game items that equivalent to the gem store versions that can be acquired with gold for me to base purchases of those items on.

Ah well.

Also, another thank you to you, Sae, for maintaining the thread during the sales. It was quite helpful.

Patch Today: Key Farming Impacted

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I’m almost afraid to log in and look at the prices of some old skins I had bids on.

As it is, Monday, a full day before this patch was released and nobody outside of ANet should’ve known what was coming, the Chaos Dagger Skin had its supply completely bought out and 1 relisted at 1,300g!

After being at a relatively steady supply of the mid to high 20s and a stagnant price of the high 200s since around April, midway through September 12th the supply of skins being put on the TP for sale stopped and the available supply suddenly dropped due to regular purchasing not being countered with additional skins being put up for sale.

Even more telling of leaked info and of people taking advantage of insider information, a full day before the patch, the supply gets completely bought out and 1 is relisted for 1,300g! No additional supply being put up for sale in the 2 days prior to the patch, and the existing supply being completely bought out the day before the patch tells me of some shady dealings.

And this is just one skin that I was watching as I had a bid for one in place before this shadiness started. Take a look at others and the days leading up to the patch.

Are you looking to design The Vampire as more of an old timey, classical vampire that looks the period, or more of a neo-vamp with a tendency toward the technological?

Is it a ‘good’ or a ‘bad’ vampire?

I could certainly throw some full looks together for you with dye selections with white as a primary, secondary and tertiary element.

I generally feel that 3 colors would be ideal in finishing an overall appearance, though if you are sylvari then you can count your glow as the third color, especially in combination with ‘hair’ color and style so the glow enhances the base color of the hair.

Mordremoth's event

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

StinVec.3621

In the event this is a serious thread, the company has been overwhelmed with complaints, with Anet themselves issuing an apology about the event. Why would they release it again next weekend with the same reward prices? That would be nuts!

I believe that they meant “prizes” not “prices”. I think they just want to request that these same items be made available again in a future incarnation of the event where they are actually attainable.

I think they fear that this was the very last opportunity to attempt to acquire these past items and they want to request that they be offered as prizes again in another event (of course, among other needed changes for the event one also hopes that this future event would actually reward players so the prizes could be attainable even if they did get offered again).

That’s officially a wrap I think. No bunny ears, but I can’t complain. :P

Anet said months ago that they wont release any more single armor skins in the gem store, just outfits.

I believe the actual statement was that full armor sets would be acquired via in-game rewards and outfits would be gem store exclusive items. I do not believe there was any mention whatsoever of single item armor skins that are not part of a set in their statement, which would include the bunny ears. This does not mean that we will definitely see bunny ears in the gem store again at some point, but it also does not mean that we definitely will not.

Well, last October Gaile said she will tell the gem store team that players asked for bunny ears. They didnt release it over Easter or during this sale or at any other time.

If you want to believe they will introduce them again, good luck.

I am happy that they dont.

This was an unexpected response from you.

I was simply correcting your comment regarding their statement about armors for the sake of accuracy.

Also, I made no mention of my desiring or not desiring the bunny ears to be available again in the gem store, so I do not know why you felt the need to poke at me like that and assume that I do want them to return. If they come back I’ll get them, if they do not, then ok.

As for your own desire for them to not return and their continued unavailability making you happy…um…ok. Good for you? I do not see how other players having the bunny ears affects you negatively in any way. If someone does not like seeing bunny ears on other players, simply turn the appearance option down so everyone looks the same. Boom. No more bunny ears on their screen.

I am not saying that you are, but I did not take you for being in the ‘Look at me, I have it and you do not’ or ‘I do not like it so nobody should have it’ crowds as your remark seems to imply one or the other could be the case.

Honestly, were it to become available in the gem store, I would probably spend 5,000 to 10,000 gems gifting it to anyone and everyone so as many people as possible would have it in case they want it so people who are against their being sold will see nothing but a sea of bunny ears everywhere they look.

Just made my 21st to try out elementalist again.
My old one has been a mule for a very, very long time due to my giving up on her around level 55 due to some change they made to ele damage output like 2 years ago that made it no longer fun.

My 20th was my first try at engineer in 3 years due to their previously being forced to have hobosack backpacks while using a kit. Now that there is no hobosack I was anxious to give it a try. It’s pretty fun, but I find myself just using the flamethrower kit all the time due to its damage output. Hey, it saves some coin not having to buy any actual weapons every few levels.

19 is a T-Charge Run slot

Many of the rest are slight variations in appearance or color schemes.
Some of them have also dropped into mule status.

My preferences for what I go exploring the world with changes, so I like to have many options available to me that I’ve already leveled up and outfitted with gear and a unique style designed for them.

I plan to pick up 4 or so more slots when they go up for sale next. That is, if they do not put a limit on how many can be purchased like they have decided to put on everything they put on sale lately. :\

Actually, I’ve been rather interested in the Jungle Outfit. Too bad I’m out of gems.

You could always make your desire for the item known here:

Perhaps someone will gift it to you before the sale ends.
(if you do post it there and receive it as a gift, be sure to immediately update your post stating that you received it as a gift so others do not send you additional ones that cannot be used)

I think some nice person already do that gift.

Awe. How very thoughtful of this nice person!

I didn’t want to come right out and ask if they had been gifted it yet, but if they had not already gotten it and made a post there then I would know that it was something they still desired.

Nobody is really making desires known in that thread so I have done far less gifting this anniversary sale than I had hoped to.

We shall see what comes up for tomorrow’s sales.
