Heavy Armor Glow?

in Sylvari

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Just be clear, as I am not sure if you are aware of the glow behavior or not, sylvari and their cultural armor only glow during in-game night time hours.

Are you stating that the issue is that it is night time in-game and your character is glowing properly, but that their cultural armor is not?

This tip “did not” correct my problem. My Black Lion tabs all remain blank. I don’t play often so as of this writing my tabs have been blank for over 5 months now.

Not sure as to which tip you are referring. Have you tried the multiple solutions I’ve offered? There are more potential solutions beyond the half a dozen offered as it can be difficult to narrow down what exactly is causing the problem. Stating the solutions you have tried without success would help a lot in determining what direction the actual problem may be in.

I’ve kept up with the discussion that followed this posting of my opinion on this proposed change (great points made, other opinions shared).

In light of all that has followed up to this moment, my opinion remains that I would not be against this were it to be implemented.

Selling skins on the TP issues

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Just as a note, Masterwork (green) and higher quality armor and weapons bind to the account if you choose to “Unlock Skin” (or to the character if you equip/upgrade them). The only items you can “Unlock Skin” on and resell are Common (white) and Fine (blue) quality as they do not bind to the character/account upon unlocking their skin.

So, if you purchased those items to unlock their skins and then resell, in the future you should be careful to only purchase white or blue versions of items. Also note that many skins are only available on higher quality items that require binding them to unlock and are not available in lesser quality versions.

living story unlock error

Try storing it:

  • in your collections tab of your bank/expanding your collections tab
(not too helpful since that’s at most like 4 stacks worth of storage)
  • in your actual bank slots/expanding your bank slots
  • on other characters
  • in a personal guild bank
  • by utilizing all of the above

Or even selling some.

You’ll need to empty your pick up tab eventually, might as well do it now.

Coin bug

in Living World

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

This sounds very familiar. Wasn’t this an issue back with the krait obelisks to where players who were interrupted during interaction (manually or by an enemy) were forever stuck with that achievement incomplete by being one obelisk short?

Back then ANet said they did internal testing to try to reproduce the issue, but despite plenty of feedback from players on the matter and the situations when they encountered the issue, they said that they could not reproduce it and left it at that.

And though there were many, many reports of it being an issue, nothing was done about advancing the achievement for players who encountered the issue. The chapter ended and the achievement went away…leaving many disgruntled players.

With these achievements not going away after two weeks (the regional achievements aren’t going away, are they?), perhaps this one will finally lead to it being resolved so it won’t happen again with future releases that have achievements requiring players to interact with single interaction objects around enemies.

Perhaps make the object register as being counted immediately upon interaction, instead of at the end of the interaction animation and have the object not disappear until it is actually registered as being counted.

Replaying LS 2 Episode - Character Bound

I was looking forward to reading the dev response on this matter. However, despite the thread showing that there is a dev response (red thread icon), there is no dev response anywhere in this thread.

Did a dev post in here and then delete their comment?
Did anyone catch what the comment said?

Hmm. I wonder if they were stating possibly incorrect information regarding this subject and instead opted to remove their post until internal discussion on the subject verified that their response was, indeed, the correct information.

It didn’t unlock for me until I had already played for a while and got my daily done and then only after I clicked on the ‘Play This Episode’ button in the Hero Panel. Once I clicked the button this green icon popped up above my mini-map (like hearts/chests/trait unlocks do). Opening this green icon brought a pop-up onto my screen saying I have unlocked that episode.

The only in-game mail I received was immediately after closing that pop-up and it was a message from “E” telling me to go to Brisban. Others mentioned the episode unlocking for them immediately upon logging in (into the world with a character) and having an in-game message already waiting for them…not sure if that is the same message and I only got mine after it unlocked for me.

Many others also found that they had to pick up whatever was waiting in the Pick Up tab of the TP (even if it was only some coin and no items) and then re-log before they would even get the ‘Play This Episode’ button and unlock the episode for them.

patch size???

in Living World

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

@StinVec, it doesn’t correspond to language packs, it’s just that people who have had the game for longer tend to have larger clients. Mine is 21GB and the only language pack I have installed is English…

I’m not sure where you heard this about players having the game longer equaling larger installation size. I’ve had the game installed since the first day of launch. It has never been uninstalled or reinstalled and mine is the most common size frequently reported by players as being the size of theirs as well. In addition, previous comparisons on the forums between installation sizes and patch download sizes have been attributed to additional language files needing to be downloaded.

You may want to check to make sure you do not have additional languages downloaded for your game as your patches will be much larger in size than most other players due to your downloading additional language packs, as well as your client size being the 21gb you state yours is.

patch size???

StinVec.3621

exactly, i’m lost somewhere in the middle of QC, and here, a decent internet (well here “decent” means it doesn’t crash often) costs so much, and it’s still not really good, because there’s just not the infrastructure needed to be “good”

sooo I guess
new map(s) : 5-10GB
no new map : the usual 250-500mb ??

New map won’t get close to 5-10 gb.

The whole client is about 18gb I believe, and that includes more than 25 maps.

I would say 1 gb at most for the update, most updates are at around few hundred mbs.

it’s arround 22gb :P
but i get what you’re saying
hopefully it will be close to 1gb, thanks a lot :p

Mine is 18.1gb.
It really depends on what additional language packs you have downloaded.
(I only have English)

Personally, I am anticipating about 300-400mb for this patch based on the sizes of other patches that included fully altered zones (Kessex poisoning, LA destruction). However, if there is much more to this update than just a little lead-in to the new season, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it go up to 500-600mb.

I wasnt refering to the point you made about a map taking a year to map, and my wording was probably bad in that aspect, I apologize. I meant more in how you said we shouldnt expect a decent amount of maps because of this fact. The point I was making was that these maps have probably been worked on for at least a year if not more, considering that time frame included conception to release.

I think you are mistaking Inculpatus cedo for Zietlogik. Inculpatus cedo has made no such statements in this entire thread that you claim they did. All Inculpatus cedo did was be quite helpful by supplying the link to the statement by ANet that Zietlogik made reference to.

IDK I wouldnt mind either of those examples, although the top one is by far more likely, maybe not in placement but in quanity.

Do you think this one may be a little bit better in positioning and possible connecting points?

I guess any of them could be just as good as the others. One thing I did like on the top first one was how all of that circle thing was in one zone, that is one thing I would expect to happen.

Modified and added a second image to have Dry Top contained within a single zone. I wouldn’t expect it to be split either.

Disabling the proxy setting will have no negative effects unless you specifically require a specific proxy configuration to connect to the internet (like on a university campus or other location that has a set proxy address that is required to be configured for access to the internet).

Considering you were still able to browse the internet with this proxy setting configured to be on, and are still able to with it off, you may want to consider looking into running a malware scan for malicious software that may have altered this setting from the normal ‘disabled/automatically detect’ status that you have now set it back to.

Malware is the most common cause of this setting being changed without your knowingly and intentionally changing it yourself.

Malwarebytes is free and is the most popular anti-malware software that is used frequently by many people all over the world.

If the scan results do not find anything (good for you! it will usually find some stuff every time anyone scans a first time) and if you encounter the proxy setting being enabled again, then you may also want to double check what is starting up with your computer to see if an unrecognized program is starting up when you turn the computer on that is not being detected as being malware.

Many people also use a program called CCleaner (also free) to clean their computer of problem causing and browser/pc slowing files and for cleaning off saved personal information from browser data. It has a useful area to look at “Startup” programs to see what is being loaded up with Windows.

Transmutation charges!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

It usually takes me 3-4 minutes for The Grove, and 3-4 minutes for Rata Sum. For me, it is actually quicker to run those two cities, delete and remake the character and run them again than it is to run the other cities on that initial character.

Couple your T-Charge runs in before a BL Key run and the key run goes faster as well due to the levels you gain from exploring those two cities. So create a character, map Rata Sum, map The Grove, return and do the key run. 2 T-Charges and a BL Key in +/- 40 minutes depending on key run preps (down to 31 min for this back-to-back run personally, looking to get under 30 soon).

What is the second part? I’m not following that at all? How do I get a key while exploring Rata Sum and The Grove with a new character?

I was stating that if you also happen to be a person who does the Black Lion Key runs, since you are already making a new character for that, if you run the two cities for T-Charges prior to the key run that you can combine the two activities and even complete the key run quicker due to having gained levels via city exploration.

Oh, Ok.

I’ve never heard of a ‘Black Lion Key’ run? Don’t suppose you could point me in the right direction to learn how to do that?

Sure. Here is one thread that discusses it and includes tips. And here is another that goes into more detail with more tips.

Sylvari basic armor

in Sylvari

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

You can purchase any of the cultural armor tiers and the skins will be unlocked in your wardrobe.

Purchasing any cultural armor means that you can then apply that appearance onto your low level armor for the fee of one Transmutation Charge per piece without having to wait until you get to a higher level.

In short:

  • Purchase the desired cultural armor for its appearance
  • Apply that appearance onto your current level character in the appearance tab

Due to being unable to salvage cultural/karma armor for materials, and unused items can only really be destroyed, you can instead toss 4 of those cultural armors you pick up for the appearances into the Mystic Forge in Lion’s Arch and get a single salvageable/tradable item in return. So you can unlock the appearances and regain some of that coin spent on them by selling the output item or salvaging it and selling the materials.

As you’ve already cleared your game cache, could you also try these:

1) Try ensuring you are “Running As Administrator”

  • Close your game completely.
  • Right-click your GW2 game shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Compatibility” tab, check/enable the box at the bottom for your game to “Run As Administrator”.
  • Hit OK after making sure this setting is enabled.
  • Re-launch your game and see if the issue persists.

2) Check for conflicting programs

  • If you recently starting using any new programs like Mumble or MSI Afterburner, these programs seem to have an overlay aspect to them that interferes with the trading post’s functionality. Disabling these from running with GW2 can prevent the conflict.

3) Disable any proxy settings

  • Check your Control Panel > Internet Options > Connection settings and make sure to disable any Proxy Setting that may be enabled there.
    Proxy Check/Disable
In your Windows Control Panel via your Start Menu:
    • Choose to view as icons instead of as categories in the top right.
    • Open Internet Options
      • Click on the Connections tab
      • At the very bottom click on LAN Settings
        • Check/tick the Automatically Detect Settings box
        • Make sure the lower Proxy Server boxes are unchecked

4) Configure Anti-virus & Firewall

  • Check your Anti-virus and Firewall to make sure they are not blocking the program “awesomium_process.exe” (the trading post) from running. Can also try manually white-listing the program so it will not be restricted from accessing the internet.

Raptors that light on your arm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Ahhh, the OP meant small flying bird things, not GW2 raptors which are the size of a human. Gotcha.

Ah. So they are meaning like falconry.
I almost made a test graphic of a velociraptor glowing on a character’s arms. Actually, it would be pretty cool to have glowing tattoos/inscriptions/symbols on the magic-wielding professions, though primarily for elementalists where they could glow the color of their attunement instead of just a flash graphic at the wrists.

Also, great video of an austringer falconer (hawk not falcon) here with a touching bond between the person and the hawk. It must be quite the feeling for them to be able to spend time with their companion up in their world instead of always down here in our land-based world.

Active participation vs. "leeching"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Regarding Shadow Behemoth:

I’m glad they thought to spawn transportation portals at the pre-event sites. That was a very good thing to save players that are actually helping advance the pres from having to waypoint back to the Behemoth (and thus miss the portal closing segment in the swamp prior to the Behemoth’s rising). They at least made it less of a hassle to participate in the pre-events for SB.

Regarding leechers during the ‘main event’:

When the portal phase is active 3+ times longer than the damage phase due to 90% of the scaling “participants” sitting there doing nothing to contribute to advancing the event at the face of the Behemoth (where they endure no risk whatsoever), something is very wrong with the design.

I request ArenaNet make these changes:

  • Massive AoE damage area covering the entire section directly in front of the boss after the portal phase becomes active
  • AoE damage area increases in intensity every second to where remaining is certain death (much like getting too close to the base of the Behemoth)
  • AoE damage area slowly expands outward and around to the sides, slowly encircling the boss, until the portals are all destroyed (so the blob doesn’t just move off to stand at the side when the portal phase begins and are instead encouraged to keep moving to avoid the expanding AoE damage area)

This will encourage the 60+ people that don’t move from its face area during the portal phase to actually help close the portals instead of standing there and letting 4-6 real players do all the work of taking down the portals while evading the half a dozen champions and dozen elites that spawn with them.

I no longer participate in this event due to it being made no fun whatsoever by the lazy leechers forcing all of the risk and effort onto the few participating in the event as it was intended. I will not be wasting my game time on this once-enjoyable activity until it is changed to no longer reward inactivity and non-participation.

As a side note regarding Ulgoth the Modniir:

  • ArenaNet, please finally get around to correcting the show/hide code so the collision box for the event chest is not there at all times. The collision box has always been there even when the event is not taking place. It is especially aggravating when the event is active and players constantly run into this invisible box while trying to maneuver around the boss. If there is no chest, there should be no collision box for the chest.

Living World Sub-Forum Order Swapping

in Forum and Website Bugs

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I realize that this is bumping an old issue, but the same issue has returned and I thought adding to my existing thread would help offer insight into the history of the issue now that it has returned.

Simply refreshing the page results in the two Living World chapters to swap places back and forth.

It is pretty misleading and irksome when you intend to enter one forum (from memory of their set order) but they switch places so you occasionally enter into the wrong forum. Not as much of an issue now with these two releases as one has a yellow icon and the other has a green icon. However, this is the last of the yellow icons as all future releases will be green, so with the next release they will both be green and it will once again be more of an issue/annoyance.

I realize the Festival will be leaving soon and it will be removed from this area and archived, but I just wanted to inform of its return and it being an issue when there are two chapters overlapping and are listed at the same time.

Speculation: Taimi the accidental terrorist

in Living World

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Interesting.

This leads me to ask those who may know:

  • What are Taimi’s feelings on the Inquest?
  • Could she be interested in working with them?

I fear that she would be very tempted to interact with them considering her feelings toward Zojja, her interest in Scarlet and her ‘accomplishments’ (especially in regards to how Scarlet worked with the Inquest), how she is treated too much like a child by others and how she must ‘behave’ and is ‘not allowed’ to do much with the B-Iconics and always having to ‘stay out of trouble’.

Not only would she be permitted to get into trouble, were she with the Inquest she would actually be encouraged to.

It seems like Taimi could potentially ‘go bad’, without intending to, simply because she has an interest in what those ‘bad’ groups have been up to from a scientific/technological standpoint and her wanting to be more powerful than Scarlet was.

Could her thirst for knowledge and understanding, for the sake of knowledge and understanding, unintentionally lead to her moral compass changing to point in a different (‘bad’) direction?
I like to learn. I just don’t believe that sitting in a lab—listening to a boring old magidork—is the way to do it.

It’d make me sad for her character, but it would be a fantastic story. Though it does seem a little reminiscent of Anakin and Darth Vader with going to ‘the dark side’ while searching for power (knowledge) in Star Wars.

Perhaps she was encouraged by the Inquest to forget the rules and find out what she wanted to about the Zephyrite’s cargo. Maybe this unintended detonation/destruction of their city, by her ignoring the warnings to not get closer, would wake her up to how the Inquest behave (ignoring safety checks and taking precautions) and that she would no longer want to interact with them.

I could see really see that:

  • Taimi behaves differently following the destruction of the Zephyrite city and the rest of the group is concerned for her and how badly she’s taking it.
  • She has a secret. They don’t yet know that she was the cause of their destruction after being misled by the Inquest to get closer to the cargo to find out what it was – for the sake of knowledge.
  • Further on into the season, and after much fighting with the Inquest, Taimi comes clean with the group about being responsible for the destruction, but that it was an accident.
  • She no longer has any interest in the Inquest and her feeling tricked by them helped fuel her wanting to get back at them and stop whatever they’re doing in Maguuma.
  • Taimi no longer looks at Zojja as just another “bossy grown-up”. She has found new respect for her mentor and she ‘grows up’ and comes to respect her. The relationship between Zojja and Taimi is healed after her mentor comforts her and kind of tells her of that being the reason she corrects her behavior and “grounds her”, so she would learn the right way of doing things and not the Inquest way. That it really was for her own good.

Not very well thought out on my part, but you get my point I hope.

Do you think the writers considered this type of storyline? Or actually chose it for this season? I wonder if they would do that with Taimi, considering the love for her character as well as the Zephyrites, to learn that she was responsible for the destruction of their city.

Could be a real learning experience for her character about why some rules need to be followed, that there are wrong ways to acquire knowledge and that “actions have consequences”. I’d like this storyline, personally.

In addition to what Kim stated, now that you have the skin unlocked in your wardrobe you can use a transmutation charge and apply that newly unlocked appearance to your currently worn, level appropriate gear instead of being locked into that level 35 gear to have that appearance.

Marjory’s Dagger please!

Also bring back mad memories complete edition. I deleted mine on accident about a year ago

I’d also love to see the rest of the toxic set, legs and chest mostly.

The Toxic set is the shoulders and gloves. I’m pretty sure a legs and chest piece don’t exist.

Yet. That is what is being requested – the completion of the set.

My personal feeling on the matter is that they do not intend to complete the set, though they might add the helm and boots to it later on similar to how the radiant/hellfire achievement skins have boots/gloves/shoulders/helm. Then again, they could be planning chest and legs for those sets eventually, which could mean that the toxic set could see a chest and legging release eventually as well.

(My additional personal feelings on the toxic set is that I will not purchase them until I can dye the green elements. If I can never dye them, I’ll never buy them. Take note, ANet, I am not the only one that feels this way.)

I completely agree.
I love adventuring in this world.

Also, I think this is the charr statue referenced.
Unless they are referencing the metal ones in the Black Citadel. Those things are so awesome.

It has happened several times in the past and it is sure to happen several more times in the future. Not much can be done to prevent it from happening to whomever they choose to target.

[EDIT] Pirate outfit - where's it go ?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Regarding the Pirate Outfit, you need to speak with the Black Lion [Armorsmith] that is next to the Trading Post NPCs in major cities. This NPC will convert your old outfits to the newer system. Be sure to speak to this NPC with all of your characters to convert all towns clothes and outfits they had over to the new system.

Generic starter towns clothes also convert over as tonics. If you do not want those then you can also sell them on the Trading Post.

40g masterwork ring

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Things like that ring confuse me so much. There are many items with outrageously high sell prices as well as corresponding buy orders where there do not seem to be any logical reasons to justify such a price or the amount of demand for them.

This staff dropped for me yesterday.
It is a Masterwork Level 20 Malign Glyphic Staff of Force
The lowest sell orders at the time were 1g 88s, with buy orders of 93s.
Buy orders have since gone up over 1g for it.

There is nothing about this staff to justify the price.
Unless there’s some exploit with it that I am unaware of that makes it in high demand.

I listed mine for 1g 50s and it sold in about an hour.

Scarlet's True Legacy

in Living World

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

scarlet’s true legacy? whiners.

Or maybe fanbois?

The cost? Some of ANet’s dignity and a large chunk of their reputation. Did they learn their lesson? I doubt it. They may think they’ve learned, and they may take a few steps in a better direction, but I don’t think the people in charge there see the real missteps yet.

True. I mean they’re heads are still so far up their own awful story they call her “one of the most iconic characters of Guild Wars 2” & dredged her back up in articles on her “Legacy”. I get the feeling they do things just to get back at that awful majority that called them out on that train wreck.

Indeed. That made me literally laugh out loud when I read that!
Actually, several parts of that video made me laugh too…though it kind of also left me feeling bad for Tara for agreeing to do the voice of Scarlet. Though I suppose work is work.

14,000+ champ bags. No precursors.

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Champ bags don’t have precursors in them only unique exotics

they do, at a very very low rare, got a Chaos guns from a Gilded Coffer doing Arah P2.

That is a dungeon event chest, though, not a champion bag.

Gilded Coffer are champion “bag” http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gilded_Coffer

Dang. I’m really not understanding all of these things with chests and bags with their names and what they are. To me a coffer is literally a chest or strongbox…not a bag.
Sorry. The misleading names they give these things messes with me as what they are strays from their actual definitions. Think I will just take my leave as I am not contributing anything more than confusion. My apologies.

14,000+ champ bags. No precursors.

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Thank you for explaining that 1 gauntlet chest gives 10 bags, so their number is multiplied by 10 then to reach 14,000.

Champ bags are not always “bags” and are titled as being “chests” as well.
I believed they were talking about general bags/chests from champions as I have no idea what gauntlet boxes are called or what they give as I have no interest in that festival event. I guess the grade of the individual chests mentioned in the OP implied they were from gauntlet/pavilion.

Thanks again for clearing up my misunderstanding of the OP.

Nice job getting that many to open. Lots of good stuff in there.

-misunderstood-
-disregard-
Do you mean over 1,400 instead of 14,000?
1,200 + 122 + 164 = 1,486
Just curious if the error is in the 14,000 or in the number of individual types of bags opened.
