90% of some of the jumping puzzles I find myself fighting the camera, not the jumps. Sometimes you get into a spot where seeing anything but a wall, or the floor requires you to move around to unstick the camera so badly that you fall off the ledge, which can be fatal. Thank you for this detailed post about the problems.
Yes. Two of my friends do not like jumping puzzles just because of the camera problems that they often more have to fight the camera than the jumps.
Greetings.
P.S. Yes I know, it is a one year old thread. but maybe sometime someone will be working on improving the camera.
You may be interested in this recent discussion regarding the camera controls and suggestions for improvement. A developer is active in the discussion.
Currently when you look up the camera slides along the ground towards your character which gives you a very limited field of view (really noticable when attacking enemies on walls in WvW).
I would like an option to always keep the camera at the same distance, so when the camera touches the ground it starts pivoting on the contact point instead of the character (in other games usually know as “Smart Pivot”).
I made a quick sketch to visualize what I mean:
I would much prefer this suggestion for alternate functionality that you describe.
Thank you for the well-done visual aid as well.
You can alter your internet proxy settings from outside of Internet Explorer (I stay as far away from that browser as possible myself).
@OP
Disable any proxy settings
(unless your internet specifically requires a proxy set to connect to the internet; e.g. dormatory, work comp, etc.)
Also, if you did notice your proxy setting changed/enabled, this is common to some forms of malware/viruses. You may want to run a check on your computer for any infections.
The proper solution, is the nobody should EVER be removed from an instance because of other player actions. This will be the only way to prevent malicious use of the partying system, and give everybody a fair chance to play how they want.
That means, if a party is split by a kick, the instance should be replicated for the split parts.
Of course this will allow the replication of an instance that is in a desirable state, which can easily be exploited. But this kind of exploitation should be considered an acceptable and mitigatable risk.
Mitigation involves, restructuring rewards so that there is no time where an instance is in a highly preferred state. Most of the times a dungeon is in it’s most prefered state, just before the final boss as the majority of the reward is earned by fighting and killing that boss. One good way of restructuring the rewards is to distribute more rewards across the entirety of the dungeon instead loading it entirely at the end.
In the same vein, dungeon currencies should be rewarded based on the player’s actual participation throughout the dungeon (sorry to dungeon purchasers, but coming in at the final boss, and fighting just him should only be worth a fraction of the tokens. Dungeon selling is not supported by the game.). Perhaps 1/2 token for each gold medal event, and 1/3 token for silvered and bronzed events throughout the dungeon (or other fraction depending on the number of events). To reward completion, of course, these rewards would be withheld until the final boss falls (but if you are forced into a copy, your rewards follow you).
Other tools for mitigation is to apply a sort of DR and have an instance reward entropy if an instance is copied too many times. This will also add consequences for being unable to work with a party that you joined. Rewards can be docked to players who are affected by the party kicking system or choose to use it.
The solution is to simply have a game where the manager’s of the economy do not have to worry about it being wrecked because an instance’s state can be copied. Rebalancing them in this way will also be helpful in revitalizing the way in which people can play dungeons. If the designers of the game can make it so that in game economy issues are separate from the mechanics of starting, stopping, continuing, and finishing a dungeon, then, the game will have a platitude more flexibility when handling how to deal with instances along side the party systems and other potential technical and network issues.
That was a real great post of ideal and logical solutions for several issues.
:D I like shooting cake at my pets too!
It’s not a big deal at all and they can ignore this if they want. Could be intentional for all I know and not an oversight.
I mainly started testing it out to see if the boosts added to the stats, MF and Karma of the player as well. Since they don’t seem to be (as they do not boost player stats textually in the Hero Panel) then I guess it’s not much of a problem.
Imagine if each necro minion+minipet had the boost and each one of them was adding all those stats to the player. Could have been a problem. Since that doesn’t seem to be the case, I don’t mind our pets having their cake and eating it too.
However, my pets prefer pie. Shame there isn’t a pie launcher somewhere.
Yeah, the event with the engineers has been busted since the patch on the 12th.
This issue was brought up on the 14th, but it seems nothing has been done to fix them yet.
It’s only been two weeks of the event being busted though. Perhaps it is already fixed and set to be included in the 9-9 feature patch. Perhaps not. As they’ve not said anything like “Thanks, we’ll get that event looked at”, we just do not know.
Then again, perhaps the 9-9 patch will finally see the removal of these offshoots. If so, I can see their possible reasoning of why bother forcing everyone out of the game to download a patch just to fix an event that isn’t even going to be around any more soon.
Latest build says it should be fixed to now scale properly.

Apparently ranger pets and minipets are able to run over and acquire the Birthday Cake nourishment buff.
This is likely an oversight and unintended, but it’s not that big of a deal and is actually a minor (and much needed) boost to pets.

The Birthday Blaster appears to look like Scarlet’s gun but with a slightly different skin and a little glow effect.
Here is the buff that running over a cake shot from it gives you:

Yes, quite weird.
I believe world selection is separate and does not require a character to be created to ‘lock in’ the selected world. I am not certain of this, but that would be logical to me.
However, if you just want to be on the safe side you can take an extra 10 seconds after selecting a world to create a character, skip to the end of creation, name it ‘Going Back To Bed’ or random letters or something, spawn into the training zone and then exit the game. Tomorrow you can create a real character and then delete the temp one.
Haha, too funny. Thanks for the screenshots.
:D I’m a very visual-based learning kind of person and I am usually horrible at explaining things well so I try to include images/video whenever possible.
Images also convey so much more information to others than many words sometimes can.
Hmm, someone should coin that phrase. :P
Ah, regarding the Hero Panel wardrobe section, I see what you are describing.
The Hero Panel Wardrobe listings are displayed in the order in which they were unlocked by your account and not alphabetically as seen in the bank wardrobe. It is quite odd that it is in this order instead of alphabetically and that alphabetically is not even an option for order.
In my listings, Adventurer’s Spectacles was the last medium skin I unlocked so it is last in my headgear listing. Viper’s Monocle in the middle, and my first one listed is Rawhide Mask. Bizarre decision for ordering. (image)
It would be nice if the alphabetical listing of armor skins seen in the bank wardrobe were extended to the Hero Panel’s listings as well.

Have you checked if it prioritizes the weapons your character can use?
Mentioning the search field is great, I always forget about that and hardly ever use it.
It does not seem to take the class into account when viewing it as it is in this same order regardless of what class views the weapon section.
That screenshot was of it being accessed by a ranger, so I would expect warhorn to be listed before focus (offhand section) and longbow to be listed before hammer (all types section) if it were prioritizing weapons my class could equip. :\
That would be a nice option to be able to tick for display order though.
(edited by StinVec.3621)
I agree that the layout and ordering options are not ideal (many others have posted a similar request to yours since its release), but at least they included the search box so we can manually enter an armor skin’s name to limit it to only displaying all pieces of a specific set.
Where ordering is illogical and far from ideal for me is in the ordering of the weapon sections for each weapon type as well as the ‘Jump To’ drop-down boxes for the different weapon types. The sections (and drop-down listing) should be listed alphabetically, not in the seemingly random order they currently are. (image)
(edited by StinVec.3621)
I definitely +1 this request.
It seems that the mass sales to people rushing to get it cheap right now (even if they may never use it for anything) is a better gold sink than selling individual colors for 300g might have ever amounted to.

I loved this episode. I really did laugh a lot and enjoyed everything they talked about.
Here is a thread from early July on the topic of Defiance.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/The-logic-of-Defiance
Anthony Ordon (Technical Designer at ArenaNet) entered into the discussion on page 2 of the thread.
This is the response he made:
AnthonyOrdon.3926
Lots of nice comments here. I, too, have a strong dislike for the Defiant/Unshakable system. Internally we’ve kicked around a lot of ideas about how to change it. The problem is that making large sweeping changes to the game is a bit like moving a table that you built a Jenga™ tower on—it takes time, planning, and a lot of care to do it.We’ve made big changes before, though. This one is on our list to address.
In the mean time it’s great to see some discussion over alternatives as well as some specific examples where existing alternatives work.Personally (by which I mean not representing the entire development team) I’d like to see at least one boss with a sort of reverse defiance. Generally immune to CC except in windows during one or two keys attacks with a long warmup. I think the theory behind Defiance would work well if everyone knew exactly when to interrupt. This is a troublesome prospect for the ad-hoc groups that GW2 promotes in various settings, so maybe shifting the responsibility to the boss (which everyone is already paying attention to) would work out a little better. “He’s winding up for super-mega-attack, everyone stun now!”
Discuss?
Perhaps he or another dev will come back to the discussion with more information and thoughts on their potential plans regarding the Defiance/Unshakable system in the future.
Only quickest things that come to mind right now that I’d recommend checking would be:
Inb4 this was a calculated ‘leak’ so they can then ‘generously’ change the decision to show how ‘in touch’ they are with WvW players.
Say what
I’m just going to squash this rumor right now. Before the strong negative feedback received after the interview at gamescom, every intention was for each color to cost 300g. Pending QA, that version was ready to ship for the feature pack.
When the flood of feedback came in, there was a flurry of emails working out the best course of action, and in the end Zach and Tyler worked the weekend to make sure this change could be made on time for 9/9.
Hi, Mark. If you or another employee have a moment, can the exact cost of the Commander’s Compendium following the 9-9 feature pack release please be clarified?
As it is now it costs 100g plus 250 Badges of Honor to purchase the Commander’s Compendium.
I know most people drop the BoH cost due their relatively easy acquisition, but all recent discussion of the increase in cost to 300g (triple current gold cost) has not included whether the BoH side of the cost is also tripled.
Q.
Is the additional Badges of Honor cost also tripled from 250 to 750, just as the gold cost is tripled from 100 to 300?I would appreciate a clarification on the change in total cost to the Commander’s Compendium following the release of the feature pack.
As always, thank you for everything you and your colleagues do.
The badge cost will remain the same at 250.
Thank you very much. I appreciate your taking the time to clarify that aspect of the cost for me.
There is a thread on this issue over in the technical support section.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Crashing-due-to-a-Invalid-Character-Motion
Please review the red ArenaNet posts in the thread for details how to include all requested information from you on the issue, what the status is on working out the issue, and what the next step for those affected should be.

I’m a bit confused as to how this is going to work now – if we purchased a commander tag right now (for 100g), do we get the four colours after the patch comes in?
Regardless, it’s good news that the 300g per colour plan was revised!
Unlock the blue commander tag on a single character right now for 100g (plus 250 badges of honor) and after 9-9 when the feature pack is implemented all current and future characters on your entire account will have access to using the commander function, along with the additional colors. Wait to purchase it until after 9-9 and it will instead cost 300g. It is recommended that you unlock it now while it is still at 100g even if you will not have need for the commander feature immediately so you save 200g over waiting until a future date (after 9-9) to purchase it.
(edited by StinVec.3621)
You read it correctly on all points.
Your commander tag will be converted to account bound so all current and future characters will have use of the commander function.
You will also have all colors unlocked.
There will be no additional charge.
So those who already have a commander tag will get all colors when the features pack go live?
Yes they will, as well as it being account bound so all existing and future characters will also have commander functionality.
Hmm. I’m surprised they haven’t done this sooner, but it would be interesting if they went the way of allowing players to upgrade gem store skins instead of strictly in-game acquired skins. It would combine skins only being sold in the gem store with the ability to upgrade the appearance via in-game play and tasks.
Perhaps this skin will be able to be upgraded in appearance after accomplishing in-game tasks; like putting Belinda’s ghost to rest or secretly allowing her ghost to ‘haunt’ the blade (unbeknownst to Marjory) so Belinda can stay close to her and help protect her while we push the fight toward Mordremoth.
Think of it like the Spinal Blade back piece where the base back piece without any appendages was released as being a skin sold in the gem store instead of being acquired in-game after combining the 4 blueprint pieces acquired from drops during the LA LS event.
Basically, “Step 1” of a skin is available from the gem store, then you could proceed to do the different fetch/upgrade/attune quests like we’ve done for recent LS back pieces to acquire the various elements to upgrade its appearance.
Evon recently acquired a mysterious cache of weapons unearthed from the rubble of the devastated city of Lion’s Arch. They appear to be of a style common to those used during the Guild Wars (introducing more GW1 weapon/armor skins). Though some of those who recovered the weapons have reported hearing voices when wielding them, Evon has put them up for sale with a ‘Use at your own risk and don’t blame me if you grow a second head or something’ disclaimer.
Completing each stage of the riddle will have the result of the weapon appearance being altered and each stage being remembered in the account wardrobe.
Or instead of a riddle:
They would be legendary weapons in the true sense of the word in that they would actually have legends and a history associated with them that players can experience. It would add the revisiting of favorite enemies and sights from GW1, and it would also add a non-gambling box weapon set to the gem store that helps ANet make money that also gives players a new task they can do in the game.
True, it doesn’t have to be shoe-horned into the gem store and can just be added into the game to be acquired by playing, but we really could use a non-gamble box weapon skin set added to the gem store to start offsetting the strong reliance they have placed on that method of new weapon skin acquisition.
Think of it as buying a weapon/armor unlock that also has the added bonus of including the option of completing an in-game legendary quest to unlock additional appearances.
ANet gets gem store sales and people spending more time in-game completing the quest.
Players get a nice skin if that’s all they want, but it also offers story elements for those that want story, in-game content to complete with ties to classic enemies and sights from GW1 that many GW1 vets would love, and it would also please those who want legendary weapons to have an actual legend associated with them.
Just spewing ideas out as they come to me, but this would be something I’d happily purchase. I’d even buy weapons and armor skins I don’t have a need for or don’t particularly like just for the quests that buying them would open up.
Heya, Astral. You’re right, specifics of restrictions are not clearly detailed in the knowledge base as they should be, or anywhere else for that matter. They are also not even mentioned to new players as even existing and being something their new account would encounter, which I find quite improper to not be informed of. The first character made on a new account should at least receive a mail in-game informing them of such restrictions and that, as they adventure normally, they will experience the restrictions dwindle down until their account becomes completely unrestricted.
Also, you had mentioned before that the restrictions, or some of them at least, are tied to the acquisition of achievement points. If this is still accurate, then, OP, I recommend getting a bunch of the really easy achievements done to boost the account’s achievement points to help with removing the restrictions quicker.
I do not know if restrictions being tied (at least partially) to APs is still a thing, but Gaile had previously mentioned – “As you play, and as you amass wealth through playing, the limitations on your new account will dissolve.” I’m not sure exactly as to what she defines as “wealth”; APs, coin, variety of items acquired through killing and looting, or even karma accumulated from completing events or the number of events completed.
Regarding mailing items to your other account as being suggested to try, one other player reported 4 months ago that the restrictions they encountered included the inability to send or even receive mail from other players, or at least receive mail that contained items. :\
I must also report that I have been unable to find any clear ways to speed up restriction removal on a new account.
My guess on a time frame until removal would be similar to Astral’s; a few days to a week or so depending on in-game activity.

Real glad to hear that! Very happy to have helped you out.
TP issues can get pretty complicated so I’m glad it was something that you could quickly try that did the trick.
Happy gaming.
I think he’s trying to point out that the vines are partially clipping into the character when certain movement happens (i.e. sways during idle animations). They seem to have a bit of a “floaty” feel where the tip of the vine takes awhile to “catch up” to the rest of it when the character exhibits some form of displacement. This can leave the vines resting inside the character’s body or fold in on themselves momentarily.
Fantastically worded and accurate description of the issue, Yamsandjams!
What cinematic is being discussed, please? The scenes mentioned do not sound familiar to me.

Ah, that needlessly and intentionally cryptic “vision” that was shared by the Pale Tree that was not helpful at all in explaining what is going on.
Thank you for linking it, Arctinus.

As you’ve already cleared your game cache, checked the game for errors and ensured you are “Running As Administrator”, could you also check these:
1) Check for conflicting programs
2) Disable any proxy settings
(unless your internet specifically requires a proxy set to connect to the internet; e.g. dormatory, work comp, etc.)
3) Configure Anti-virus & Firewall
(I know you mentioned that you disabled them, but sometimes they can still cause issues based on their settings even if disabled)
You are certainly not alone there, Doghouse.
As much as I would love to have Mawdrey and the bloodstone dust eating plant, I cannot even consider entering fractals with PuGs to acquire the pristine relics and I play completely solo with the exception of those I find assisting me with events in the world. I loathe required group play, especially to complete a back piece that is entirely living story related. This is the same reason I never have, nor never will finish the “personal” story; it is solo content until the very end and then requires a group to complete it.
Fractals should scale down based on how many players enter it so even solo players can take part in that game mode. Rift did a fantastic job with their “Chronicles”, I believe they were called (solo mini dungeons). I’m looking into attempting soloing certain fractals, though I doubt I will be capable of it. :\
If you want to see if we can 2-man them, feel free to message me some time. I’ve never set foot inside a fractal, but I am all for sticking together and going very, very slow through them if that is something you would like to give a try. Perhaps we can poke around and find a few more who have not done fractals that really want Mawdrey and are upset about the required pristine relics.
(perhaps Zaoda.1653 would be interested, they are pretty put out about fractals being needed as well and is a really nice person)

Just wanted to take this opportunity to voice my appreciation.
Glad all is sorted and proper. Grats on the crafting accomplishments, Doghouse!
Thanks very much for posting the items released tonight, Kaisukii!
I got excited for a moment when I saw that you wrote “Ceremonial Plated Armor”.
I jumped in-game and was very disappointed to see it is “Ceremonial Plated Outfit”. :\
Thought they changed their minds and decided to release it as armor and not an outfit.
Such a shame. No sale here, ANet. Easily would’ve bought it had it been armor.
Very nice and helpful response, Illconceived Was Na.9781.
I think you meant to paste the Chaos Infused Clay Pot wiki link in #3 instead of the RCO wiki link as making the CICP consumes the RCO as you mention.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chaos_Infused_Clay_Pot
Just mentioning it to clear up any potential confusion.
Have to say it is a high risk investment you are suggesting because:
“Players who have already unlocked at least one commander tag will get the blue tag for the whole account.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/September_2014_Feature_PackIt doesn’t state you can choose additional colors if have more than 1 tag and it is unlikely that Anet will announce since players would just rush and buy 5 tags now. So, you are under the risk of losing all the gold if Anet stick with refund only not giving the option to pick a color.
Was this in response to my post?
If so, then my post was in response to this poster and was dependent on that information being accurate.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/September_2014_Feature_Pack
An admin on the wiki edited the page and included this, “Players who have unlocked four or more tags, can contact support to get another color of their choice.” He went to gamescom.
I tried to make it clear that everything I mentioned was speculation based on unclear wording and incomplete information regarding how it might be handled, but that what I outlined was my current understanding of the situation if all things previously cited by others were accurate. (I’ll edit and add this exact statement to my post, to clear that up)
I fully agree with you, people should not go tossing gold around on additional Compendiums in a race to save some coin in the long run before concrete information is available on how compensation, if any, will be handled with the feature pack.

I just bought the commanders book but didn’t use it. What happens if I use it after the patch?

It’s actually good that you bought it now as you saved 200g versus buying it after 9-9.

Removed content of post as the new blog revealed the correct details on the new commander features and this post was speculating on alternate details.
Basically, buy your commander tag now for 100g while you can, even if you don’t have much need for it, you may in the future and it’ll cost 300g at that time.
On 9-9 it goes up to 300g and you get all of the new features (account bound, all colors) for 200g cheaper.

I noticed this yesterday as well, though I encountered the mortar fire from the vigil engineers not damaging the toxic offshoots in Queensdale. I’m guessing it is bugged everywhere then and is related to something from Tuesday’s patch that bugged them.
I wholly agree.
I may get the axe (eventually), but even that skin is quite disappointing.
Against Altering Existing Skins
As some players may prefer these models to more stylized and inspired models, I do not think these (or anything) should be changed after being released (e.g. human female running animation). Ideally they should release a Variations of Chaos set that involves more inspired models with the same chaos effects.
Another Solution – Dyeable Weapons; Dyes with Effects
They could also work toward releasing an item that we can use that applies the Chaos effects to our existing weapons so we can have the model we desire with the Chaos effects on them (i.e. weapon dying that also sees the release of dyes that add specific effects to weapons, such as Chaos effects).
I have been waiting for their designers to step up their inspiration toward something more like these (attached image) weapons. They are fully capable of making such detailed and styled models and effects for weapons (and armors), they just choose not to for whatever reason(s).
So far they have fallen far short in providing very many thoughtfully designed sets. They have released some elements of sets that look inspired, detailed and finished, yet other pieces of the same set look rushed, generic, thrown together last minute and released unfinished.
There is also the issue of sets being released that lack all underwater weapon pieces entirely. I applaud them for at least making the effort to include the generic models of underwater weapons with the chaos effects in this set. It’s a small step, but at least it shows that they seemingly intend to properly include all weapons in their weapon skin sets.
ANet can have such amazing weapons (and armors) with inspired design details and effects that they have shown they are capable of and have at their disposal, yet these unimaginative, uninspired, generic and half-hearted designs are what they keep pumping out.
Please, ANet, utilize your designing abilities and talents to their full extent and release such designs we know you are fully capable of producing.

- Let us assign names to all of our Ranger pets. Not to our pet slots.
Am I not remembering correctly or did they already state why we don’t have this? Wasn’t it having something to do with having to store a name string for all of the ranger pets for every player would get incredibly costly or something along those lines?
On that note:
1)Fix the search feature on the forums.
I’ve not seen any statements by ANet regarding the lack of stored pet names and I have only seen the ‘string cost’ statement as being provided by a few players as a possible reason for it.
However, I do not accept that reasoning as valid (even if ANet themselves have cited it as being the problem) considering the fact that every player is able to have 1,000+ (unlimited?) players on their blocked and friend lists, each with very long (30+ character) custom nicknames stored for them, yet a ranger character cannot have 45 (19 character maximum) pet names stored.
Thank you. I’m glad to hear you no longer experience the client crashing.
I had experienced it several more times following my previous post, though I have not experienced any crashes since the game update 10 days ago that stated an occasional client crash was fixed. I think this update fixed whatever was causing my occasional crashes.
Um…what are you talking about? Was this meant to be a reply in another thread instead of its own thread?
On Windows, there is a mouse option that you can turn on that will make a visible circle appear around your cursor when you press ctrl. Works while in GW2 as well.
I’m not a designer so I can’t speak as to why or why not the mouse cursor is as it is, but this tip just saved me. Thank you, Olba!!
Can you guys share the secret/tip. How do you activate it?
In Windows > Start Menu > Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options tab > At the bottom enable location marker option
I’ve tried changing that setting. It works when I’m on the desktop, but doesn’t seem to work in game
Hmm.
Perhaps that function works similarly to some other cursor overlay applications to where it requires Windowed or Windowed Fullscreen mode to be visible on the GW2 cursor. This is due to the graphic on and around your cursor essentially being just an overlay window at the location of the cursor and not a replacement of the actual cursor image. Running in fullscreen mode prevents such windowed elements from being on top of the game window so it may be appearing, just behind the game window at the location of the cursor. Running in Windowed or Windowed Fullscreen mode should allow it to be visible at the location of the cursor when activated.
I highly recommend those having issues to try using yolomouse (thanks again for linking it) until ANet gets around to offering in-game options.
These are some stills of some of the animated cursors I’m currently using.

Ah, that’s a shame that it does not work properly. I had not even tried that option for my mouse cursor as I’ve been using yolomouse with custom animated cursors.
I’m still amazed that GW2 doesn’t have the commonly available option of “Disable Custom Cursor” or “Use Desktop Cursor” that most other games I’ve played have. It would solve so many cursor issues that people experience.
ANet, let us use our own.

Finkle is Einhorn!! Einhorn is Finkle!! Ohhhhh Myyyyy Goddddddddddddddddd
Related to this, I ran into a player in Rata Sum named “Finkle Is Einhorn”.
I asked them if they also had “Einhorn Is Finkle” and they did!
It was awesome.

There are several videos on youtube documenting the steps of how to reach the ‘special’ areas players can get into, as well as most of the void jumps that are able to be done.
My favorite is the abandoned/unfinished jumping puzzle in Caledon Forest. I’d love for them to actually finish it.
Here’s my warrior.
Head: Mask of the Wanderer
Shoulders: Pit Fighter
Torso: Phalanx
Gloves: Splint Gauntlets
Legs: Phalanx
Boots: PhalanxDyes: Burnished Steel, Mahogany and Ruby.
That looks really nice, especially in those colors.
Really gives it a rugged and natural look.
