Hmm. I like “Lion’s Dawn.”

It’s got a nice ring, and harks back to LA as a critical early victory for them.

Lion’s Dawn, huh? Hmmm….

Yeah, I actually like it.

That is pretty creative and logical for the foundation the ‘gang’ is built upon, Gulesave.

As much as I like “Lion’s Dawn”, this is actually what immediately popped into my mind as being more appropriate upon reading that, sadly.

I went searching for a lion yawning gif and I totally dawwwwed when I found this instead.
I could not resist posting it due to the love we all have for the ‘kitten-filter’.

Mobs in Starter Zones Lie

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

StinVec.3621

They didnt say low level zones, just low level areas. 1-10 is low level area.

Ah, I see.

To me, “low-level areas” implies actual zones (areas) that are low-level (denoted 1-15 on the map). Instead, as you have kindly pointed out, their statement of “low-level areas” is regarding “low-level sections of starting zones”.

Thank you for assisting with that clarification. I see now what they were attempting to convey had been changed.

Mobs in Starter Zones Lie

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

StinVec.3621

Reduce Low-Level Complexity:
In an effort to reduce early game complexity, enemies that cause conditions, enemies with attacks that require players to dodge, and bundle items were removed from low-level areas.

Despite their stating that enemies that apply conditions were removed in low level (starter) zones (or at least removed their ability to apply conditions), I still encountered enemies in Metrica Province that applied conditions on a new character.

I also encountered at least one condition-applying enemy in Queensdale and Caledon Forest. However, I did not encounter any condition-applying enemies in Wayfarer Foothills. I found at least one in Wayfarer Foothills as well.

I have not entered Plains of Ashford yet to see if I encounter any condition-applying foes in that zone yet.

So far:

  • Metrica Province – Still has condition-applying foes
  • Caledon Forest – Still has condition-applying foes
  • Queensdale – Still has condition-applying foes
  • Wayfarer Foothills – Still has condition-applying foes
  • Plains of Ashford – Unknown (have not visited there on my new character yet)

Seems they either intentionally left some condition-applying foes in the starter zones and that statement of their being removed is false, or they unintentionally left some foes remain due to not being thorough enough and it is an oversight that they would likely remedy in the future.

edit – updated
Also – bundles:
I just remembered that I’ve also encountered some bundle items in the starter zones.
I’m not so sure that patch note statement is actually accurate at all.

Mini's and Finishers become unselected

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Dying-Your-Armor-Removes-Minipets

This other thread mentions that the culprit of the deselection of minis is due to hitting “Apply” when changing a dye on your armor.

It seems applying dyes to your armor causes your selected mini to be cleared.

Perhaps select a finisher, dye a piece of armor and hit apply, and then check to see if your finisher has been deselected to see if this is the culprit regarding the finisher deselection issue as well.

Having a full mailbox would cause a backup of mails waiting to get delivered.

If you have a full mailbox then you would need to delete a few mails for the new mail to be delivered. Clearing out old mails will allow the new ones to get delivered.

A full mailbox shouldn’t prevent game-sent mails from being delivered, but it might now due to the massive changes in the game lately.

Basically, keep your mailbox clear of unneeded messages and stay below the limit on saved messages.

You have to be lvl 39 to equip rares now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

There are a lot of things which are explained in the level up pop-ups which aren’t locked, they’re just mentioned to make sure you’re aware of them if you haven’t already found out.

For example I created a new character this morning and one of the first things I did was use the golem banker to withdraw 2 bags from my bank and equipped them. Then I got a notification at level 3 about bags and how to equip them. I haven’t gotten one about the bank yet but I know it does happen.

It’s the same with things like asura gates, WvW, dodging and vistas and POIs. You can use them right from the start, just like you always could, but genuinely new players might not know about them until they’re told.

Some of the levels where things are introduced do seem a bit odd. In this case level 35 would be a more sensible point to introduce rare equipment since that’s the first level you can equip it. But I assume the actual unlocks took priority and extra tips were inserted wherever there was a gap.

Regarding the part I bolded:

I’m pretty sure the “Information” area of the level up reward screen that included the Personal Vault (bank) feature was around level 28-29. Seems like that bit of information, that you have a personal storage area, should be given much earlier on than level 28-29.

Perhaps level 5-10 would be a more appropriate area for such a notification as the player’s bags may be getting full by this point and it’d be nice to point out storage as an alternative to vending.

I’m sure most people have visited their racial city by level 10-15 to start their personal story, or any of the many other reasons to go there, and became aware of the bank icon on their map and chose to see what it was.

I’m not sure why they decided to make the informative notification at such a high level. Seems illogical to me and less than ideal for a new player. By that point, if a player was still unaware of the bank and has been destroying or vending everything for all of those levels, the player might respond with, “Oh, now they tell me. Could’ve told me sooner since I’ve been throwing all this stuff out for 20 levels that I didn’t have room to hang on to. Sold/destroyed some stuff I wanted to hang on to because I had no space left for loot from kills! Wish I had known there was a storage area when I was like level 5 when bag space first became an issue.”

Though, that’s just my take on it..

CoherentUI_Host.exe + Crashing

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I have a question about this CoherentUI_Host.exe *32 process. While observing this in my Windows task manger>Process tab, I am finding 2 instances of Coherent running while in game. Is this going to be a normal situation? Should we have both?? As both Instances are~ 39K of Working set (Memory)…

It seems that one instance is running at all times while in-game. The 2nd instance only launches upon accessing the gemstore/trading post. It will then close down after you close the TP/gem store.

The single instance that is always running while in-game is likely to allow your BLTP icon at the top of your screen to update and sync with your pickup tab when items/coin are ready for pick up. This idle one seems to sit around 12MB memory usage.

The 2nd instance is only running while the gem store/TP is actively open for it to function and update. This seems to fluctuate between 19-50MB memory usage while I have the TP open and then settle down to about 31MB if I leave the TP sit there without interacting with it.

This is my guess anyway.

Kicked from low population map?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

They are obviously testing out the new “volunteer” move feature with some stricter numbers on closing and rotating maps. I got the Volunteer thing yesterday but have yet to be “kicked”…..are you at least getting a warning in chat (like when they force an update log out)?

Their goal to consolidate lower population maps is in direct conflict with the minipet culling fiasco, so I’m interested to see how they plan to handle this situation.

I did receive the pop-up notice of the dwindling population and the offer of gaining the buff if I choose to “volunteer” to leave some time before the end of the hour, at which time the map will auto close.

There was no message in chat regarding the pop-up, just the pop-up.

I chose to select the “later” option and it was minimized down to the chest area above my minimap.

Hovering on the icon would say I have 56 minutes (or however much time) remaining to voluntarily leave the map and receive the buff before it is automatically closed.

5 minutes later I was forcibly kicked out of the instance to another copy of the map.
Not 56 minutes later. 5 minutes.

And there was also no message in chat about my being kicked immediately.

I figured I would wait until the last few minutes left on the timer so I could enjoy the time in the empty zone. If I’m going to be kicked to a more populated version, might as well grab the buff at the last minute since I’m getting booted under protest and it’ll soften the blow slightly.

Having been forcibly kicked out to another instance of the map after only five minutes, I did not receive the buff due not actually selecting to leave the map.

I’m not too pleased with how that is functioning currently.

Doubts-Professional skill slots after update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Profession skills were previously available from the moment of creation as far as I remember.

From what I can find (here and here), they are now locked until:

  • Profession skill F1 – Unlocked at level 4 (or 5)
  • Profession skill F2 – Unlocked at level 13
  • Profession skill F3 – Unlocked at level 22
  • Profession skill F4 – Unlocked at level 24

Yeah, Rangers cannot even call their pets back to them so they stop attacking everything until level 22…

Use dodges, reflects and blocks (or even hide behind an obstacle) to avoid or mitigate the damage.

Low level character with ultimate skill

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I heard players talking in map chat shortly after the patch came out that there is a bug where, under the new leveling system, even if a character has not reached the new level required to unlock the elite skill, if the player has any elites unlocked (like mistfire wolf) players can use their elite skill while holding a bundle.

That is what is happening here:

  • Mistfire Wolf elite skill is unlocked due to the deluxe/heroic edition
  • Elite skill is not unlocked on the character yet due to low level
  • Player picks up a bundle and are able to then select and use the Mistfire Wolf elite skill
(though other elites can be used if they were unlocked prior to the 9-9 feature patch, but have had their elite skill re-locked off due to not yet meeting the newly imposed level requirement to unlock their elite skill)

Even shorter summary:

  • unlocked elite skills can be used prior to the unlocking of the elite skill slot while a player is holding a bundle

Your post seems to show that the bug also allows players to ‘illegally’ equip unlocked skills in their utility slot 3 (default: 9 key) in addition to the elite slot (default: 0 key) and have these skills persist even while no longer holding the bundle.

New TP Sell Interface Confusing

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Just a few of the downgrades off the top of my head:

  • Horrible fonts, font sizes and font color/page colors creating a lack of contrast of the majority of the information on the item pages (and the amount in the corner of the item icons)
  • Very illogical and inconvenient element and function organization
  • Important information crowded with unnecessary text causing readability issues
  • Very limited number of listings displayed on the sell/buy screen
  • Missing ‘Refresh’ button for listing prices
  • Missing ‘Projected Return After Sale’ not being displayed any more (the most important piece of information to a seller trying to list an item)
  • Closing the confirmation popup after a successful listing of an item causes listings page for the item you were selling to disappear and have to go all the way back around to get to the item page for the item you just listed
  • Cannot add to existing listings
  • Issues of prices and amounts of items I’m selling or buying not updating without closing and reopening the TP and going all the way back to the buying/selling page
  • Limited number of results returned in your current buy/sell order screens – unable to see all of your current orders/listings
  • Required clicks to perform simple actions multiplied several times over those previously needed in the old version

I dislike the new interface so much that I will actively avoid accessing it and will rather vend/salvage everything to avoid using it.

Even then, instead of selling mats and items constantly throughout each play session, I will instead now wait until a full stack builds in material storage before listing it. I’ll also be listing the stacks far below their actual worth to guarantee the items sell after only listing them once to lessen the number of times I will need to use this new and horrible design.

As bad as the old TP was (and how I didn’t think it could actually be worse) I’d happily take the old one over this new one.

I take it you were doing the level 10 story on a level 80 character? Or passed the bag to a level 80 to open?

I was under the impression that named level 80 exotics have a chance to drop from those bags regardless of the level of the character opening it, and that only non-named equipment drops were limited to being appropriate for the level of the character opening it.

Just wondering if this is the official issues topic for the new TP as well and we should start asking mods to merge new topics that start popping up for the new tp with this one?

I think the majority of posts in this topic (issues and solutions) are no longer relevant under the new system.

I think either a new sticky thread should be made for issues encountered in the new system to be posted in, or a new sticky thread that directs players to post their trading post/gem store issues over in the technical support sub-forum. Both involve the retiring of this thread.

Don't Type Moa

This thread in the Bugs Forum is discussing search terms that cause crashes. They seem to be aware of “moa”, as well as several others.

In general, if someone asks you to perform an action (message someone, search for moa on the TP, etc) in map chat, you don’t do it.

In fact, some of these requests can and should be reported, such as a recent one of a player telling other players to message someone else because that person is giving gold away to whoever messages them…meanwhile that player has no idea why they’re getting 100 messages.

CoherentUI_Host.exe + Crashing

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Status on the issue for those still affected. (basically, skip to page 7)

This had resolved issues in the past with the old TP, but it appears it helps resolve some of the issues with the new TP/launcher and crashing as well.

If you are still experiencing the issues with your launcher/patcher and CoherentUI_Host.exe with crashing:

Disable any proxy settings + Check/Enable Auto-Detect Settings

  • Check your Start Menu > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connection settings and make sure to disable any Proxy Setting that may be enabled there.
    Proxy Check/Disable
In your Windows Control Panel via your Start Menu:
    • Choose to view as icons instead of as categories in the top right.
    • Open Internet Options
      • Click on the Connections tab
      • At the very bottom click on LAN Settings
        • Check/Enable the Automatically Detect Settings box
        • Make sure the lower Proxy Server boxes and all other boxes are unchecked and the script field is empty

NOTE
If you were previously using the “-nopatchui -email -pw” shortcut command line argument to enter the game, you will need to remove that work around for any other resolutions to be viable.

Immediately upon patching I find a new “bin” folder is created in my GW2 installation folder.

Within this folder are several dlls and a new executable.
(Shouldn’t these files be within the dat file or in the gw2-cache folder and not inside the installation folder?)

Immediately upon patching this executable is requesting firewall permission.

The patch is continuing to download properly despite my not permitting this new executable to connect to the net.

I’ve looked it up and see it is an HTML5-based User Interface system.

Why is this new file demanding access to the net while I am trying to patch?
Why should this UI system require access to the net, let alone when I am not in-game?

Can you help me with this face?

Heya, Szisza.

As Carter mentioned, both the hair and the face are makeover kit exclusives.

Other than adjusting colors for preference, everything about that face (eyes, nose, mouth, head) is straight default down the middle on the sliders.

Since we cannot tilt the head downward in the makeover kit, and they can in their posing software, the faces do not appear exactly the same due to the angle being different – theirs tilted downward and mine more level. The settings are the same though.

Also, I noticed that the face seems to have a different feel to it when viewed straight on than it does from the angle in their shot. Just mentioning it ahead of time and included it in my screen capture.

Trading Post 2.0 (Last Feature pack Arcticle)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

A couple of questions…..

1 – When I search for dyes, can I filter out the ones already unlocked on my account?

No, you’ll still have to mouse-over the list to see each one locked or unlocked.
Same for skins which someone asked about. And minis which is a logical question too.
Locked / Unlocked on my account is not a currently supported filter.

2 – Have you removed all the buy orders below vendor price?

Not at this time. In fact the visibility is actually going to make this worse for a little bit. It’s something we are looking into but it’s easier said than done without risk to the market.

Without want of sounding like a bit of a noob… Could you not simply release a message to all players explaining that any items they currently have on the TP that are BELOW the Vendor price will be removed from the game and unless the players cancel these items they will lose them permanently without any such refunds.

OR perhaps you could arrange for someone from ANet to get a temporary account with a ton of gold to go through the TP and simply purchase all the items that are currently listed outside of the parameters, that way the players get the gold for the sale and the TP is free from the items… Heck i’m almost tempted to just do it myself lol. (Almost being the operative word).

I do not think there are any items left on the TP that are being sold for under the vendor value. We’ve all bought them up and vendored them for profit. Occasionally there is an item that somehow gets listed for far below its vendor value due to a bug or something, but it is bought up and vendored quickly.

The main issue is of buy orders for under the vendor value. These are mostly a ton of 1c buy orders from before it was made so a buy order could not be placed for less than 1c over vendor value.

Main questions I would ask are:

1) Are you sure you consumed the purchased Commander’s Compendium item to activate the commander function on a single character?

2) If so, are you sure you are trying to activate the commander function on the character you activated the Commander’s Compendium on?

3) If so, are you properly activating the commander function by clicking on your party drop-down menu and selecting the “Create Squad” button?

Marjory Dagger behavior bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

When you are necromancer and use marjory dagger, your #1 attack from death shroud makes you shoot marjory dagger instead of the usual projectile… this is so ugly and almost invisible, please fix this bug!

This is certainly a bug. I can understand ranger axe throw being replaced by the proper axe skin, I don’t understand “life blast” being a dagger. I understand if thief throws proper skin of his dagger with #4, but wtf life blast… I want to blast my foe with life force, I don’t want to throw infinite amount of tiny daggers -.- This is extremely immersion breaking.

I completely agree with you.
Also, it is not only marjory’s dagger, it is her axe as well.

I had just recently started to try playing my necro again (human female, ditched my humans when the running animation was changed to a really horrible one for no reason) and replaced her old axe skin with my new marjory axe skin. I may have to waste a transmute charge to go back to the old skin as I prefer to see the life blast projectile being shot and not a tiny axe.

Quite disappointing. One can only hope that it may eventually be corrected so no weapon skins alter the life blast projectile.

Lag and Latency Issues

Correct:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2”<space>/clientport<space>80

Not to make it more complex or confusing at all, but if you prefer alternate ways of writing it then the space before “80” can be a colon.
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2”<space>/clientport:80

Or you can also put a hyphen in place of the forward slash if you loathe forward slashes as much as I do.
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2"<space>-clientport:80
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2"<space>-clientport<space>80

Lag and Latency Issues

in Account & Technical Support

StinVec.3621

May want to give the “/clientport 80” command line argument a try and see if it helps reduce the lag you experience.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments#-clientport_80

“Instructs the client to connect to the game servers over port 80 (HTTP) instead of the industry standard gaming port 6112. Some ISPs throttle different port traffic at different times of day so this helps some people get a better connection. (It isn’t the default because some ISPs also modify port 80 traffic, which will break the game connection.)”

Add “/clientport 80” command line argument

  • Close your game completely.
  • Next, make a copy of your Gw2 game shortcut and rename it “GW2 Port 80” or to something that you will recognize it for testing GW2 with this command line argument.
  • Now, right-click this “Gw2 Port 80” shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Shortcut” tab look in the “Target:” field, you should see:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” or wherever you have Guild Wars 2 installed.
  • After the closing quotation marks in this line put a space and then add /clientport 80
It will look like this but with your GW2 install location:
    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” /clientport 80
  • Hit OK after making this change.
  • Use this shortcut to launch your game and play for a while.
  • If you don’t notice a difference between your regular game connection and using client port 80, feel free to delete this shortcut and use your regular one again.

Hmm. Perhaps try:

1) Run As Admin

  • Close your game completely.
  • Right-click your GW2 game shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Compatibility” tab, check/enable the box at the bottom for your game to “Run As Administrator”.
  • Hit OK after making sure this setting is enabled.
  • Re-launch your game and see if the issue persists.

2) Configure Anti-virus & Firewall

  • Check your Anti-virus and Firewall to make sure they are not blocking the program “Gw2.exe” from connecting to the internet. Can also try manually “white-listing” the program so it will not be restricted from accessing the internet.

Hero Window - Cannot see my character

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Things that come to mind to try:

1) Check the game for errors and repair it

  • Close your game completely.
  • Next, make a copy of your Gw2 game shortcut and rename it “GW2 Repair” or to something that you will recognize it for being only for running a repair on your GW2 installation.
  • Now, right-click this “Gw2 Repair” shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Shortcut” tab look in the “Target:” field, you should see:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” or wherever you have Guild Wars 2 installed.
  • After the closing quotation marks in this line put a single space and then add -repair
It will look like this but with your GW2 install location:
    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” -repair
  • Hit OK after making this change.
  • Run this repair shortcut. Your game will run through a repair cycle and fix any damaged files it finds.
  • After it runs through, start the game using the normal GW2 game shortcut (not the repair shortcut) and see if you can see your character properly.

2) Make sure your video card drivers and software are up to date

3) Check your video card software’s Anti-Aliasing setting
If it is set to something other than the equivalent of ‘application controlled’, try setting it to the equivalent of being ‘application controlled’ and see if that corrects the display issue.

4) Hmm…maybe make sure your Flash is up to date?
I’ve heard that some elements of the UI are Flash based (not sure of this though), so making sure your Flash is up to date may help. Unlikely, but it’s another thing to try if 1-3 do not help.

Question about Lion's Arch

in Living World

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I am not aware of a single, concrete answer given by ArenaNet about what has been, is being or will be done to rebuild LA. However, this other thread on the subject makes note of some small changes that have already happened in the city. There is also an ongoing discussion of possible ways to include players in the rebuilding of the city where we actively participate in bringing about the changes.

There is a lot of potential in the current situation of the city (and Kessex Hills), but I suppose it really comes down to how involved ANet wants to make the rebuilding process and if it fits in with their timeline and other plans for the continuation of LS:S2, Halloween/Mad King’s Day and Wintersday.

If they plan to continue solely with destructive changes to simulate a ‘living world’, then I feel that it would behoove them to have a plan for rebuilding the areas devastated by the Living Story that involves player interaction, or if not, at least more significant, timely ‘scheduled’ and noticeable changes to begin taking place.

LA's Progression

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

What do others think of the idea of if they were to tie the rebuilding of LA with Dry Top style tier mechanics?

However, instead of the “defend from attacker/kill this enemy” style events found there, these events that are completed to progress the tiers (Stages of Reconstruction) are more along the lines of:

  • donations to “X”-o-Tron of currently oversupplied materials on the TP
  • other fetch style assistance events (like helping collect nails or wood for rebuilding)
  • some other non-violent style tasks as we know many players want something to do that doesn’t involve always killing stuff

But can also include killing stuff:

  • Wintersday Dolyak style escort events – skritt trying to steel the shiny metal and nails
    (poor skritt! -sadface-)

Progressing the tiers/Stages of Reconstruction would not be reset with a dust storm, but more like the Tower of Nightmares Antitoxin Injection meter where all servers/megaserver instances contribute to advancing it. When the meter hits a new ‘Stage of Reconstruction’, changes to LA become visible. This could be done by killing instances of LA-Stage1 and force-loading players in the zone into the updated LA-Stage2 version of the zone where changes from efforts are visually realized.

That is only one way of realizing the changes, which would also mean several versions of LA in stages of reconstruction would need to be in the client, which could bloat the size temporarily until old stage versions of the map are removed at a later point.

Just a concoction of incompletely thought-out ideas as they come to me while writing.

I think it would be interesting to have the players actually involved with the reconstruction and having it tied to a style of ‘single use festival’ release akin to Dragon Bash/Council Election.

Just an idea.

FIX Food on Primer

Many players wish for (and have requested) a way to manually remove/terminate any currently active buff (food, movement speed, many other examples).

Until they fulfill this desire we are all stuck waiting (sometimes for hours across multiple play sessions) for an undesired buff’s duration to run out. :\

50% Off Digital Deluxe Upgrade

any chance of this going on sale again? .

I really want that mistfire wolf XD but 30quid for it is a little much. ):

Really should start a new topic rather than bumping on that’s been dead for four months.

That being said, you missed it when it went on sale a few weeks ago.

That sale was only for copies purchased through the website, not through the gem store.
There were players asking why the gem store Digital Deluxe Upgrade was not also on sale.

  • Offer applies only to Digital Heroic Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition purchased through buy.guildwars2.com

The in-game sale on the Digital Deluxe Upgrade had occurred prior to that website sale on the DDE.

Also, the website Digital Deluxe Edition is its own version of the game with its own serial code and not an upgrade to an existing account like the in-game Digital Deluxe Upgrade is. Buying the DDE from the website is an entirely new account/serial and the gem store DDU is an upgrade to an existing account.

I’m not sure if Taygus desires an additional copy of the game or not, but they likely are wanting the Upgrade version to be on sale and not the new account DDE version.

I also expect the in-game gem store DDU sale to return before the website sale does on the DDE.

Now, with that being said, Taygus, you may want to post in the the following thread to make your desire for the DDU to be placed on sale known to ArenaNet. They watch it.

I believe it has gone on sale twice since the sale this thread was notifying of 5 months ago. This was a 50% off, another was also a 50% off, and I cannot recall if the most recent was 50% as well or 25/30% off.

If they stay true to their recent history, I think you can expect it on sale again some time within the next 30-45 days considering they seem to be placing it on sale about every 2 months.

That’s my thought on the matter anyway.
Purely guessing though.
I’m considering picking it up when it is on sale next as well.

I’m also waiting for the Mask of the Wanderer to go on sale to finally buy it. As I personally don’t think it is worth 500 gems for what it is, I will only buy it if it is on sale, thus closer to what I consider a more appropriate price for it.

Aw that is lovely. Congratulations pdavis. You seem like a nice person from reading your posts so I would say the gifts have found a deserving home.

Once, in the bad old days of the Queensdale train a fellow participant posted a link in map chat to the Stardust bow he had just received as loot. I wrote back, ‘congrats’ or something similar. The next minute I received an email from the player gifting me the bow. Not quite on the same level perhaps but to me it was the most amazing thing that anyone could have done. I smiled for hours afterwards.

I encountered a very similar occurrence. A long time ago I was in Queensdale killing fish in the lake near the troll and someone linked Impaler into chat saying that they had just gotten it from a champ bag. I congratulated them and mentioned that I find it to be one of the best looking spears and that I was currently saving up to buy one for when I got my character to 80. A moment later I got a mail with the weapon in it. I was shocked. I responded that I was grateful but that I could not accept it. They said they had already gotten several of them and that they were just going to salvage it and insisted that I keep it. I was very happy. I still have and use it to this day and also remember who it was that had given it to me.

Good point.

I also dont want some to see this as such a cry. I only want to celebrate my good fortune and honor those that do give generously, or give at all. Im not asking for anything, but want to shine the light on those who do want to give. Let this be their 15 minutes of fame. They know who they are, and that is enough..

I apologize if my statement seemed to make any sort of a parallel to you and your fortuitous situation. I meant my comment to be taken only as an informative warning to others who enjoy seizing an opportunity to help others, for them to be mindful that there are some out there that know there is kindness left in the world and that they will take advantage of it to their own benefit.

I applaud the gifter for their generosity and you for making such a generous act known to others. It is inspiring and refreshing to see one being so generous and I am very happy for you being the receiver of such a nice gift.

Sometimes all people need is a little help. I remember doing the FSG champ train once, and this warrior was talking about how he only needed around 100 more gold to buy his precursor, hence why he was there, and that’s pretty much all he needed to finish. Well I deicide to give him the 100g, couple of weeks pass, and I see him again, but this time with Frostfang. I don’t think he really remembered me because he didn’t say anything. However it’s still nice to help people out.

Very generous of you!
However, be mindful of people who prey on the generosity of others. You want those deserving of generosity to be the ones to actually receive it.

One example is of several people that do nothing but waypoint to every zone. Once in each zone they paste the item codes for a legendary into chat with a message saying they are only 8 gold away from making their legendary.

They used to say they were like 80 or 100g away, though they seemed to have discovered they got more “donations” by stating a lower amount. I’ve seen people making 300-600 gold in an hour doing this. They technically aren’t exactly scamming people and they are not directly asking for handouts or anything, but they plant that seed in the mind of generous players to want to help them out. 5 or 6 generous people send them 8 gold each to help them out, meanwhile they’re already in another zone sending their lie into the chat of that zone before heading off to another zone.

It’s another version of those people who would ask for 10 silver for their adept training manual every day for months, despite being level 2 and unable to use the manual and that the manual didn’t cost 10 silver.

I marked many of these vultures on my contact list as there are several that have been doing this for months. I track them so that if they come to the zone I am in and paste their false message, I can warn people in the zone of their actual intentions. I’ve stopped many from sending them gold who were about to without even thinking twice about it.

Reporting this player for scamming apparently doesn’t do much since I guess they’re technically not. ANet seems to see it this way since the same players are still doing this every day for months. :\

Just, be kind and generous, but be mindful that there are those looking to take advantage of such generosity…sadly.

I would like to be able to filter weapons by a specific weapon type WITHOUT only seeing items which my class can use.

Sometimes, I like to buy a weapon as a gift for a friend.

Additionally, I dont suppose this means we’ll see something so the API suddenly knows what kinds of items these are so external sites can sort them appropriately and automatically? =)

Regarding the bolded part, you can still search for weapons by specific type.
You are not forced to only view what you are able to equip.

The screenshot shows armor as being the area selected to search so we are seeing the filters available for armors, which includes the option to limit results to only the weight of a certain profession.

Had they made a screenshot of the weapons section then we would see different filters, including the drop-down for selecting a specific weapon type.

Honestly, I do not think the weapon section would even include a filter to limit only showing weapon types a selected profession can use. Of course it might, but that is a filter option I do not see as being useful at all in regards to a weapon search, let alone as a forced filter. I just do not see that filter as even being an option under the weapon section. Considering professions have a lot of weapon types at their disposal, displaying all weapons of types a profession can use will have a huge amount of results (and take a lot of additional and wasted time coding on the back end over the much easier trio of light-medium-heavy of armor weights associated with professions). Such a long list of results is not all that useful and additional filters would need to be added to trim them down.

Dye changes won't stay

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

When you used the dye remover, did you just use it to remove the dye and redye the slots again, without saving the changes between removing dye and changing dye?

If you used the dye remover and then dyed the slots, try using the dye remover on all of the slots, then saving the dye changes, then redye and save the new colors.

To be clearer, be sure you did this:

  • Dye Remover on all slots
  • Apply changes
  • Dye all slots to your liking
  • Apply changes

And not this:

  • Dye Remover on all slots
  • Dye all slots again
  • Apply changes

I did ‘Apply’ the dye remover but do you have to use the remover on every slot? I think I only removed the blue areas, then hit ‘Apply’ because I wanted to keep the black looking slot that was already on the skin.

Ok, that is the problem.

You cannot modify some dye slots while keeping others in the default color they came with if you do not also have that color unlocked. That is where the issue is popping up. You do not have that “black looking” color unlocked so any changes to the other colors are not getting saved.

So let’s say the skin comes with Abyss Dye in some slots, and Brick Dye in others as its default coloring. If you modify the Brick Dye slots to another color and try to save the changes, they will not get saved since you do not have Abyss Dye unlocked on your account. You would need to have Abyss unlocked on your account or overwrite the Abyss with a color you do have unlocked for changes to be saved.

So, you must either leave all dyes as their default, or modify all dyes to colors that you actually have unlocked.

If the default “black looking” color is one you do not have unlocked, you cannot modify the other colors and save the changes without also modifying that color, or unlocking that color on your account.

You need to either color over the black color on the piece with another color to change the other dye slots, or unlock that black color on your account so the other dye changes can be saved properly.

Suggestion: player camera improvements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Firstly I want to thank all of you for very clear and well thought out constructive feedback it is always a pleasure interacting with players.

Secondly I would like to reiterate that me posting on this thread does not mean that changes to the camera will or will not happen either now or in the future of GW2 development. Please assume everything in this post is purely hypothetical.

Thirdly I’d like to focus this thread onto a single possible feature for the camera at a time so we can talk about it, discuss technical limitations, and potential solutions to these limitations. Feel free to silently judge those who post before reading everything else discussed so far. :P

So, for the first feature to discuss let’s start with the ‘smart pivot.’ I have chosen this one first as it is one of the more technically challenging features, and seems like it would interesting to talk about.

Currently when you look up the camera slides along the ground towards your character which gives you a very limited field of view (really noticable when attacking enemies on walls in WvW).

I would like an option to always keep the camera at the same distance, so when the camera touches the ground it starts pivoting on the contact point instead of the character (in other games usually know as “Smart Pivot”).

I made a quick sketch to visualize what I mean:

So for the first technical challenge, how could we get this to work when the camera doesn’t know what ‘ground’ is.

Instead of looking at a way to work out the more technologically challenging issue of camera-ground awareness and a smart pivot behavior, perhaps consider a much simpler alternative that resolves the concerns regarding how the camera functions by approaching the issue differently.

Instead of the camera having its behavior predefined based on the situation it finds itself placed in (smart pivot on ground collision, that not all may like), perhaps placing more control of the camera directly into the player’s hands can achieve the results that each player desires for a specific situation.

It would be quite useful to add a camera drop-down option where, in addition to the current point of rotation on the character, one can select to have the free camera rotate from its current position instead of around the character.

  • Or instead of a drop-down option, allow the ‘Camera-focused Free Cam’ to have a defined key combination just as the current ‘Character-focused Free Cam’ has.

This would allow us to choose on the fly when we want to rotate our camera based on where it is located in space relative to your character, or from where our character is actually located. We can then position the camera exactly where we desire it to be and orient it freely based on its location instead of being tied to our character where we encounter issues when trying to get the desired angle.

Having it set to camera-focused and then holding the left mouse button and turning my camera left will swivel the camera to the left from the location of the camera instead of from the location of the character.

Something like this could easily (and possibly more desirably) remove the limitations and issues of the current camera that many are requesting to be resolved without facing the daunting technical limitations of other potential resolutions.

A question on behalf of veteran players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

StinVec.3621

T
Also, here’s a wild suggestion for the downed thing….Place the downed skills in the character skills UI area so i can see what skills I have BEFORE I’m downed!!!!

This is a good idea, look at this devs. The one thing that I found difficult when making a new character was finding out what my downed skills did before I got killed.

I will third this idea, this would be extremely beneficial.

I agree, this would definitely be a beneficial (and logical) addition to the skill tabs in the Hero Panel. My experiences with downed skills ties in closely with the mysterious Death Shroud skills that I’ve always wanted to be listed in the skills panel as well.

Short-short version, I agree.

  • Downed State skills, as well as Death Shroud skills, really need to be easily accessible for review while outside of those states.

Long version of my introduction to the Death Shroud Skills and Downed State Skills
It was such a shock when I first started and played a necro. I saw that the description for Death Shroud said it would give me new skills. Cool. However, it did not state that it would replace my existing skills and make them unusable while in Death Shroud.
I expected additional skills…

So I found myself nearly dead and I decided it was time to give this Death Shroud a try. I entered Death Shroud for the first time hoping to use the additional health bar to save me.

Suddenly I find all of my skills gone and replaced with completely new ones.
My response? Confusion and panic.

The Kitten-friendly version of my actual response would be something like:
“Oh, gee, I am unsure of what has just transpired.”

I then quickly began spamming Death Shroud skill 1 despite not knowing what exactly the skill was doing and assuming that it was a damaging attack. I then had to pay no attention to what was going on in combat just so I could spend a few seconds to read a few words of its description.

While I was reading I took note that my Life Force was dwindling quickly due to the damage I was sustaining. I then lost Death Shroud and my skills flipped back to my weapon skills. As I had almost no health remaining from before I entered Death Shroud, I got put into Downed State immediately for the first time. What did I find? Yet another bar of new skills to try to quickly read the descriptions on.

Yeah…was quite jarring and confusing to put it in nicer and more mild terms.

After that I had to work on building up Life Force so I could then enter Death Shroud while outside of combat. I would then just to stand there spewing blackish green smoke everywhere without an enemy in sight just so I could spend the few seconds I had built up to read each skill, one at a time. Since it didn’t last very long I had to do this across several times of building up Life Force and entering Death Shroud while out of combat before I was clear on what each skill did and what situations they would be useful in.

Ok: Death Shroud skills understood. Now to look at those Downed State skills.
I then went and found a lone, easy to kill enemy someplace and proceeded to almost kill it. I then let it beat me up and knock me into Downed State once again so I could read each skill one at a time now that I knew that I can kill the enemy with one attack.

Got to read some of the skills and was almost dead so: Skill 1 -Life Leech-
Oh, nice. I rallied! Good to know that killing the enemy lets me return to my feet immediately.

Did this another time and found that Downed State skill 4 lets me slowly get to my feet as long as the channeled skill isn’t interrupted from being attacked (can’t leech health from an enemy with skill 1 if there aren’t any around, so use skill 4).

Later found that Rangers -Throw Dirt- for Downed State skill 1 (similar to other non-necro classes) so I then had to rely on Downed State skill 4 on other classes to recover whereas necro is able to use skill 1 to damage (and potentially rally) and heal at the same time. So necro could rally/recover (whichever comes first) with skill 1, everyone else…rally with dirt/rocks if possible or hope to recover with skill 4 eventually (or a combination of both to stay alive).

None of this would have been a problem if I could review the skill descriptions in the Hero Panel like I did with the weapon and utility skills.
