Transparent Update Patch Note September 33rd:
- invisible wall placed in Sparkfly Fen to stop players from jumping onto the ruins beside Tequatl.
;)
Reminds me so much of the Fairly Odd Parents episode from back in 2001 where the angry holiday mascots planned to banish Santa to the imaginary date of February 33rd.
I wonder if you saw that episode years ago too and is why you chose the “33rd” as your imaginary date.
Also, I love reading patch notes. The more in them the better. However, I do understand why certain things are intentionally not included, how some things can be missed in being included, as well as it not being very meaningful use of time and resources to include absolutely every change made. Believe me, I’d love everything (right down to corrected typos) to be included, but I’ve resigned to the fact that it is an unrealistic desire, sadly.

I just posted about this in the bug forum…
And bingo! That is what you do for maximum visibility and for the greatest likelihood that the issue will be noted and resolved. Better still, look for and post in an existing thread, but make a new thread if you don’t find one already in the Bug Forum.
Thank you.
ok, we’ll see if this works…
Indeed. :\ Still waiting on both the “noted” and the “resolved” parts in regards to this “issue”. I’d be thrilled with our finally getting to the “noted” step of that sequence.
I just notice some minutes ago, that this “new” tools are account bounded instead of soul bounded as the old ones.
This is just for this tools selling atm? Because all my older tools still are soul bounded!!
Any one knows why this change just in this ones!?As mentioned, that was changed a long time ago.
To convert your old soulbound infinite tools to account bound versions:
- Unequip the tool to your inventory
- Speak with a Black Lion Weapon Specialist near TP NPCs in cities
- Select to convert it to the account bound version for free
Thank you very much friend! I just recently came back to the game again. Good to know!
Happy to help out with pointing you toward getting yours exchanged.
You’re sure to run across a bunch of little things like this that have changed. Now, I actually really love reading release notes. If you happen to also like reading them (or do not, but it isn’t that terrible of task for you), you might considering tackling one now and then to catch up on some of these small (and larger) changes that happened while you were gone and work your way up to current.
And welcome back!

Agreed. I love underwater exploration and combat too, but it seems it’s just not popular among many players for some reason. :/
I agree. I really enjoy everything about underwater areas of GW2; dynamic combat; mobility, environments, aquatic weapon designs, skill effects, …everything else. I honestly have not run into anything that I dislike about underwater areas and combat in underwater areas.
One complaint I do have about underwater combat is that many utility/elite skills do not function underwater despite nothing really preventing them from being able to. Draxynnic just explained quite well how, with a little effort on ANets part (my statement, not theirs), they could easily allow for there to be aquatic equivalents to skills that are currently land-locked.
I’d love entire underwater zones (with or without a surface), as well as an underwater city. Perhaps if/when Largos get introduced. :\

I know for a fact, that certain minis from set two can be combined into other specific minis. Check out this page.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini_Steamrider
Now, this doesn’t count to any achievements. You don’t need special minis for those, but if you want them, the three steam minis can only be crafted by the forge or bought on the TP.
Ah, there it was. I thought there was at least one, but I was not able to find a recipe that used set 1, 2 or 3 minis to make a Special set mini.
You’re right, those Special set Steam minis are only acquirable via combining the 4 steam minis from set 2. I should have seen them while looking through the Forge Mini recipes at the link I posted earlier.
The Steam creature minis (Mini Steam Hulk, Mini Steam Minotaur, Mini Steamrider) seem to be the only ones (listed anyway) that use minis from a numbered set to make them.
-Edited for accuracy as the content of Vayne’s statement proved it to be inaccurate-
Unless the minis are the Steam minis from Set 2, it appears the duplicate minis you have from sets 1, 2 and 3 are not used in forge recipes to produce a specific, unique mini and are safe to be traded away.
Before selling one, you may want to double check that it isn’t used in a recipe on its wiki page and the miniatures forge recipe page provided below.
As far as I know, the minis that are used in recipes that produce a unique mini are all are from the “Special” category, some of which can be traded, but most are account bound.
Though, be sure that they are from those sets and not the “Special” set. If they are from the “Special” set and tradeable, you can go ahead and sell them if they are able to be sold, unless you plan to forge them to get the other special minis.

What level is your character? You’ve done the last step of Chapter 2, once you reach L30 it will unlock Chapter 3 and should send the mail.
They mentioned that they are level 25, so you are correct; they do need to wait until level 30 before they can start the next chapter of their personal story.
However, they should not be told “You have an important letter. Read your mail.” if they will not be getting that mail for another 5 levels when Chapter 3 unlocks.
Perhaps this part of the personal story was not adjusted when it was altered to release in bundles at specific levels. The “Read your mail” message should be at the start of Chapter 3 and not at the end of Chapter 2 since they will not be getting that mail for some time.
Or instead of moving it to the start of Chapter 3, reword that message at the end of Chapter 2 so it relays the information that they “should await the arrival of an important letter”, instead of stating that they currently do have an important letter that they do not actually have yet, or will be getting any time soon.
This way they can continue playing as normal, and when they hit level 30 they will receive the important letter that they were waiting for. Chapter 2 ends and the delay before chapter 3 unlocks due to having to gain levels will flow nicer and not cause confusion.
I may not have expressed this adequately, but the main point is that the ends of chapters should be adjusted appropriately to account for the next chapter not being available immediately as it was previously. As it is now, some chapters end and it is assumed that the character can advance to the next one, though now they must meet the level requirements and must gain levels before the next chapter is available. This delay while the character gains levels is not reflected in the transition stage between chapter unlocks.

@OP
As stated by others, your title is very misleading and it should be changed to one that more accurately describes what your thread is about.
As it is now:
Perhaps change it to the standard practice of titling your suggestion as a suggestion:
I request that you re-title your thread to prevent false hopes and confusion among readers.
You can change it by clicking “Edit Topic” below your thread title on this page (just below the “Add Reply” button).

As mentioned, that was changed a long time ago.
To convert your old soulbound infinite tools to account bound versions:
It was not initially available with the axe and sickle.
Nice that they seemed to have seen the requests on the forums for the mining pick to be available as well and added it in today.
Not a problem. I fault no one for being unable to find relevant threads due to the embarrassingly non-functional search function.
I’ve just been reading that thread often so I knew what title to look for and how far to look to find it. Just included where it was in case you may have been wondering where the most recent discussion on it had dropped to.
I sometimes have to pour through dozens of pages to find what page a thread I had been following had dropped to, especially if I hadn’t commented in the thread or liked a post in it so I could track it easily due to the “Subscribe” button also being embarrassingly non-functional.
There is a discussion taking place halfway down page 2 where the OP offers a suggestion to change the points at which pieces are offered.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Radiant-and-Hellfire-Armor-Skins
The thread has some great posts with thoughts expressed by players on the matter.
Overall I feel it is a good idea that seems much more thought-out and realistic than what ANet implemented. May want to read through and give your thoughts on the matter as well.
If anything us players write on the topic will make any difference we’ll see, though I highly doubt it will.

I’ve not gotten any undocumented bonus items from using them.
I do not believe there to be any extra “special” aspect to them.
Speed is very fast on the sickle; 1/2 – 3/4 of a second from start of harvesting until the crop is placed into your inventory. Much faster than any other sickle I’ve seen. You get the goods halfway through the swipe animation, so no need to wait for the entire thing as you can run away mid-animation and have the goods.
Logging axe seems to take longer than normal, but it’s just a delay at the start while you “whip out your axe” before the first chop. Though I think the time between chop 2 and 3 is slightly faster, so it works out to the same as other axes in total harvesting time.
So instead of delays being like:
- 1 – - 2 – - – 3
It seems more like:
- – 1 – - 2 – - 3

Wow. Time flies. I didn’t realize the anniversary sale was already that long ago. My sense of time has always been horrible. :\
I believe the OP means, why didn’t they make the molten pick available at the same time as the new molten tools. People may be more likely to grab them if they can get all of the same theme at the same time. Or maybe not.
Anyway, I think the molten pick isn’t also available again along side these two new molten tools because the molten pick was just available again (briefly) a week or two ago.

Mender Aviala was immediately in front of you when you entered the world and has a green star over her head.
I’ve circled her in your screenshot as she is still visible from where you are.
edit
Sorry, I forgot that the new personal story stuff doesn’t start until later levels. A player can be level 10, or even 80, before they start their first chapter. Seeing as you are level 40, it was likely a long time ago when you were “born” into the world and first saw her standing near that loading area.
Yeah, they really should have updated the first story step to mark your map with where she is, especially if new characters no longer need to speak with her immediately upon loading. At least I think that is how it is done now with the new story system. I can’t bring myself to start a new sylvari to try out their NPE. :\
edit 2
It’s strange that your story journal shows the step as being completed and is struck out when you are still being told to speak with her. Maybe that is the bug and the reason why there isn’t a marker on your map of where she is located; part of the system thinks you talked with her and hid the marker, the other part thinks it is still on that step.
Really weird.

Looks good to me.
One other issue though:
When clicking on one of the individual point rewards, clicking one will raise a page mask and you can cycle through the images of the different rewards.
However, clicking the close (X) button only hides the mask.
The image and functional previous/next arrows remain and cannot be dismissed without refreshing the entire page and entering your character name again to reload the calculator.
Happy to help out!
It’s good that we can now note that changes to that setting will not become apparent in-game until the next time it is launched instead of immediately as changes to other settings are.
Happy gaming.
I’m strictly an Open World PvE player.
Other than the above-mentioned use for “mapping zones a little quicker” (I call these mappers “runners”, and I loathe encountering them for several reasons), I cannot think of any situations in OW-PvE where they were of any significant use.
Because of their not really having any usefulness that I’ve encountered, I rarely even activate them.
I imagine there are select areas within iPvE (instanced/dungeons) and the PvP modes (WvW & sPvP) where they can be of use. I do not play those areas, but some of the above-mentioned uses do seem reasonable to me.

Do you have your “Dialog Volume” in your Sound Options menu turned down all the way?
Sometimes I turn it off and forget to turn it back up later on.
I usually disable mine due to the bugged ambient conversations in cities (like Rata Sum) where they all start up at the same time (from areas above and below as well) and they all overlap for 2 seconds and then they all stop mid-sentence…only to repeat this every 5 seconds. It’s horribly annoying.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Minons-level-scaling-Flesh-of-the-Master
A temporary workaround until they get to correcting the despawning behavior is to not use the “Flesh of the Master” trait in the Major slot of the Death Magic trait line. This trait is what is causing your minions to despawn when crossing between level-adjusting regional lines of a zone.
In my opinion it appears to be related to your forced “Ambient Occlusion” setting in your NVidia Control Panel.
As it only becomes apparent at far distances, it would seem there is an issue with the enhanced shadowed elements of terrain not being obscured by fog and sandstorm effects, while the terrain elements the shadows themselves are cast upon are.
There’s a bit of a history with GW2, NVidia and Ambient Occlusion.
[ 1 , 2 ] (and many more using google to find others discussing it and getting it to work right)
I recommend setting it to “Off” instead of “Quality” in your GW2 NVidia profile.
Here are some pics of it being experienced by others when dealing with obscuring effects such as fog.
I don’t have NVidia so I am not sure of more recent discussions on the matter. Sorry I cannot be of more help in this regard.
I’m sure there is information available around the net to get AO to work right if you really desire it to be enabled in GW2. I had glanced at some info discussing the use of a Skyrim AO nvidia config or something to get it to look right in GW2.

I frequently play KoAR along side GW2 because of the chakrams and faeblades (as well as the many other wonderful aspects of that game).
If a new game was GW2 + KoAR, I would never play any other rpg…ever.
That is my ideal game. Despite the similarities of the two and their being so close to perfect, each lacks a few crucial elements that the other has. A combination of all that is great in both would be amazing.

First a note on rangers.
Ranger pets, if left on ‘active’ while the player is AFK will attack any mob that attacks them or the ranger.Pets can’t draw aggro. Anet (thankfully) changed this early 2013, after endless ranger complaints about their pets taking the “scenic route” to follow the ranger due to poor pathing, and the ranger ending up attacked by a half dozen mobs the moment he stopped moving. So mobs will not attack a pet unless the pet attacks them first.
If they’re getting exp by being AFK there, then it’s a mob pathing/power issue. The mob wanders to within attack range of a player, but isn’t strong enough to kill off said player before the pet finishes them off.
Correct, a mob will not attack a pet unless it is first aggroed on the player. However, if an enemy’s attack against some other nearby player also happens to hit your pet, then the pet will defend itself and its master. So any aoe or cleave attacks by nearby enemies on other players could draw an AFK player’s pet into combat.
how does one circumnavigate the 10 minute afk log out? o.O
Return to the keyboard every seven to eight minutes. Simple.
Wait, isn’t the AFK kick to character select screen an hour? That’s what it has always been in my experience. Does Dry Top have a unique and far lower AFK kick timer?
We have identified a bug with the free banker and are working on a fix.
Woo! Thank you! I really appreciate the occasional freebie from the gem store <3
Thank you very much for the clarification and resolution of the issue.
I also strongly second khani’s statement of appreciation for such generous promotions.
As a note to others that are unaware, the timer on the banker golem does not begin until you retrieve the item from the mailbox. If you have no need for it right now, you can leave it in your mail until you have need of it and have it for 2 weeks from that point.
Wish I knew that…
That is what is confusing to me about this item. There seems to be three items with the Golem Banker name; a gizmo, a consumable, and another that isn’t really anything (thought its description says it is the one mailed out to DD/CE purchasers).
The wiki for the 2 week gizmo version (single use gem store item) states:
“After the initial use, the item will disappear after two weeks.”
The wiki for the consumable version (deluxe upgrade item that gets re-mailed out to each new character) states:
“Once used for the first time, this item is replaced by another item with a countdown timer on it. This item lasts for 14 days.”
Despite both item descriptions stating that their timers do not start until first activation, I believe one of the two items (gizmo and consumable) to have an inactive timer while the other has an active timer. The conversion from inactive to active may have once been upon first use, but perhaps it was changed so the conversion takes place upon receipt from the mail.
As my countdown timer started once it was placed into my inventory and not later on when I first used it, it is likely that the item in the mail is the one with an inactive timer and the one dropped into the inventory is the item that begins to count down.
So instead of:
Evidence shows that it has been changed to:
It would seem there is not enough information on the items. Perhaps it used to only start the timer upon first use, but it seems that perhaps ANet reconfigured the items or switched their usages (single gem store item and the deluxe upgrade item) so that the conversion from the inactive timer item to the active timer item is upon receipt and not upon first activation for the gem store item, and the deluxe upgrade item is upon first activation.
This means that the information on both the wiki and one of the items would be inaccurate. The GW2 Knowledge Base is even more inaccurate and out of date on its information (still says it is a 5-day use item and only available from the digital deluxe upgrade and not for individual purchase from the gem store).
Or it could just be a bug that the timer is starting upon receipt into the inventory from the mail instead of upon first usage.
Who knows anymore what is a bug and what is working as intended.

It says 500 gems for me.
Assuming some people are seeing it for free, I can think of 2 possibilities.
1) a bug
2) if you have the deluxe set, which has a banker golem with each new char, maybe you don’t get a free one from the gem store.(I have the digital deluxe)
I do not have the Deluxe version, just standard retail box edition from walmart on launch day. I do not see it as offering a free banker golem, sadly. I suppose it is more likely to be a bug then.
(I’ve been hesitant to pick up the digital deluxe for over 2 years, though I plan to finally grab it when it is on sale again)
Huh, I can see how it would be frustrating for it to restart the spinning. Perhaps there is a happy middle ground where it starts out spinning then once you move the camera it stops.
I agree with you on that as being a good compromise.
Another alternative would be to allow an on-screen element to become visible upon death where you can toggle the rotation on or off, and this setting would persist across deaths and game sessions. I picture it similar to the “Interact [F]” splash on the screen located at 4 o’clock, but I picture the toggle being located at about 2 o’clock. Could even develop other elements for the other areas of the clock face for different things in the future.
Also:
Can you please give us any word on if you will look into re-fixing the issue of the camera auto full zooming in upon becoming downed? It had been a serious issue and was corrected so the camera would stop doing that, but it got reintroduced again earlier in the year and has not been addressed again.
Updated OP
Issue: Timer activation issue
Information states the timer on the 2 Week Banker Golem does not start until its first use, though the item being received in the mail that was given away as today’s freebie starts the timer upon receipt into your inventory from the mail and not upon first activation.
Quick Jump To: Discussion taking place down below
Summary:
So it was mentioned that each day this week there would be a freebie on the gem store.
We have had a couple already, but tonight there are people saying the 2 Week Banker Golem is the freebie.
Unfortunately it seems it is only free for some people and not others.
Many are seeing it as being marked as “HOT” and still costing 500 gems with no freebie offered.
Are these people that are stating that it is today’s freebie trolling?
Is it really todays freebie?
Is it only free for certain players?
If so, is there a different freebie for the people not eligible for the banker golem freebie?
Is it just a bug that it is not a freebie for everyone?
Just curious as it is causing quite a lot of heated map chat in different zones as everyone is accusing the other side of trolling. Those who do not see it as being free accusing the other side of trying to get people to just quickly click on the “HOT” banker golem without thinking about it and paying full price. Those who say they got one free are calling the other side out as trolling by trying to trick people out of getting their freebie golem banker.
Just curious about what exactly is going on with this.
In my case, I do not see it as being a freebie. It is listed on the main page as “HOT” and is absent from the Promotions page entirely.

As the majority of season 1 was open world content and completely different in design than season 2 has been, they have stated that they are working on making a version of season 1 that is more instanced like season 2. I imagine this could take quite a long time to accomplish, but they do plan to release season 1 into the story journal in the future.
I still love this thread from over a year ago in the locked off suggestions forum.

Sniped by Kim by just a few seconds. :P
Her eyes are mostly down to just little slits and you can barely see any of her actual eye.
What I have been able to make out is that they appear to be near black, if not totally black.
Can try a google image search for “faolain” and see some others’ screenshots of her in some cutscenes. They do not look any better though as they show the same little slits and barely visible dark eye color. Even the picture on the wiki of her is from a cutscene and only shows the slits and barely visible blackness behind her eyelids.

I actually turned it into a little mini-game of “Find The Target”.
I’d hit “Target Nearest Enemy” and then run around trying to find where the thing is that it believes is nearest to me.
Most often it would not target the enemy a little ways in front of me that I can see and is within range, but would instead target some random enemy/animal that was really far behind me, down/up a slope and behind a huge rock/mountain.
Due to “Target Nearest Enemy” no longer, you know, targeting the nearest enemy, and that it now targets a random foe that is usually between about 6,000 and 10,000 units away and behind me and on another plane entirely, I’ve completely unbound that key.
I instead use “Target Next Enemy”, which actually does target the enemy that is directly in front of and nearest to me. It’s quite ridiculous, but I recommend others to instead use this key to target the nearest enemy until they figure things out and re-re-fix the target nearest function.
Perhaps something like this?
Helm: Grenth’s hood
Shoulders: Profane Mantle
Chest: Vestments of the Lich
Gloves: Profane Gloves
Leggings: Conjurer Pants
Boots: Profane Shoes
Other than the chest, most of the pieces can be replaced for a different look as desired.
However, I think the chest is crucial to blending with the hood.
Also tossed on the synergetic back item and flower to offer other views of the look with an appropriate back item.
Also, in case you were unaware, you can also access the wiki directly from within the game using the /wiki command.

Sending these or any other search terms to chat will automatically load up your default web browser to the wiki and search for the text you entered and load the relevant page or offer the closest results.

Thank you for shining a light on this post. It has really offered quite a bit more insight into some of the issues I have been encountering (on my own and seeing mentioned by others) that I could not find a specific cause for. I had not considered this aspect as being a potential cause, which seems likely simply from a logic standpoint. I will be sure to read more into it and review the attached citations and the ensuing discussions tomorrow though.

Does sorting the list by listing date with oldest at the top help? Or does that only sort the most recent 200 by their listing date and not allow you to view 200 starting from the back end of all your listings?
I was hoping that it might only be loading 200 to be visible, but that perhaps you could reverse the order so you’re looking at the 200 oldest that were previously out of the display range and not the 200 most recent.
Basically, sort most recent to oldest and look at what the last/bottom listing is.
Then sort from oldest to newest and see if that same listing is now at the top or if an older one is.
If that same listing is, then I guess anything beyond the 200 most recent is completely out of view until they fix this.

Indeed. I find the “Match My Level” function to be completely useless since it doesn’t actually adjust the min and max level range to, you know, match my level.
One other thing that I find quite perplexing (even on the old TP) is that the max level number does not increase when the min level number exceeds it.
Searching for something level 40 minimum and level 40 maximum, then increasing the minimum to 41, should result in the max automatically matching since min > max is an invalid search query. Min should be incapable of exceeding max.
One very small and simple additional bit of code would be most welcome so that:
It’s quite an unnecessary hassle to have to always adjust both numbers when increasing your search parameters by one or two digits.
On which race/gender?
Camera used to zoom in all the way on your character when you got downed.
Camera used to spin around when you were dead even if you were holding your mouse button down but not actively turning your camera at all. If you were not actively moving your camera then it would quickly take control and rotate it for you.

The best way I’ve found to counteract the bots that up their bids on dozens/hundreds of items en masse like clockwork is to force them into their cooldown.
First thing to do is to determine the bot’s maximum price point by steadily increasing your bid until they hit their limit and remove their bid from the item.
Once this max range is determined, you can then choose one of two courses of action:
1) You can accept the higher price point that is above the bot’s max bid range, which is still less than buying it outright. You’re basically paying much more than you should have to just so you do not have to deal with them. It’s not ideal, but at least you do not have to babysit your order and deal with these bots.
2) Force the bot into a cooldown period (or a “time out”) where they’ll pull their bids from an item for a period of time due to the buy price going over their max limit:
In my testing, this can buy anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour (depending on the bot) of not having to deal with their constantly outbidding you.
As an example:
I recently outfitted my new necro with level 39 rare berserker armor and immediately found that most of the items were being targeted by a bot ordering the same quantity of 5. I chose to use this method to get the armor pieces with minimal babysitting due to successfully causing them to time out.
Let’s use just the chest for this example:
- Lowest sell price was about 80 silver
- Highest buy price was about 25 silver
- I constantly increased my bid by 1-5 silver until I determined the bot’s maximum price to be about 55 silver
I did this for all of the armor pieces at the same time. Some of the items were filled before the bot was reactivated on them, some others I was not so lucky with getting filled quickly. On these particular items on the bot’s list, it returned after exactly 30 minutes from forcing them to go on cooldown. I then had to repeat this method of forcing them away from the items I wanted once again. Like clockwork, exactly every 30 minutes they would return.
You can speed up the process as well by completely skipping the 50s step and going straight for the out of range bid of 55s. I just found the 50s step helped with verifying that the bot was still active before I made my 55s bid.
The cooldown isn’t the same for each bot out there. Some are only on cooldown for exactly 15 minutes, others for exactly an hour. Just as the cooldowns vary from bot to bot, the bid update frequencies are not all identical. Some bots update their bids and simultaneously remove their old ones on hundreds of items every 30 seconds, others are set to do it every 1 minute or every 5 minutes on the dot.
They get pretty predictable though. Once you learn their telltale signs you can easily tell the difference between another actual player placing a bid because they want the item and a bot placing a bid.
Anytime I go shopping for a rare or exotic item I expect to encounter at least one bot. When the rare or exotic items I’m shopping for are above level 67 (the level at which ectos start dropping from them), I can expect to battle against at least half a dozen. Unfortunately, those items are also having real players bid on them. Due to this, the cooldown method doesn’t really work that well as you still need to babysit your orders and constantly update them due to being outbid by real people who are also babysitting their orders.

My launcher was working perfectly fine until today’s patch (frost spirit patch) but now when I start the launcher and press “play”, GW2’s windows appears with the name “Untitled”, but nothing loads, it stays completely white with no sounds ect.
Task managers shows the program is GW2.tmp ??? I think before it was GW2.exe
And when i try to restart GW2, it redownloads the patch everytime, and does the same thing…
Edit: added screenshot.
It sounds like you are also experiencing the write-restricted issue I just responded about. Please follow the steps I outlined in my previous response to another poster to see if it helps resolve the issue for you.
This has happened twice now.
I play the game fine. But when I try to load up again my launcher begins to download the entire client all over again.
Any way to resolve this?
It sounds like the executable does not have write access to update a file (or files) so it needs to re-download the up-to-date version of that file temporarily each time you start the game. One cause of this (among several) can be if you recently moved your GW2 installation out of the Program Files folder to another location (as recommended in this thread for other issues). Moving a file/folder sometimes causes it to become ‘Read Only’. Another cause can be the replacing of the executable during updating. Sometimes the new exe does not adopt the Run As Admin properties of the previous exe. I recommend always running the game from a separate shortcut to the exe (usually on the desktop, etc) with the Run As Admin setting enabled on that shortcut so it is always running as admin regardless of the main executable being replaced with an updated version.
So be sure the files in your GW2 folder are not write restricted and that your game is set to run as an Administrator so it has full write privileges.
