Main: Caeimhe – Sylvari Ranger
Alts: Charr Guardian, Asura Elementalist, Human Thief, Norn Necromancer
I always attempt to be the one to enter Fractals and I take a screenshot at the first sign of ‘this player might be a kitten’. I’ve had the misfortune to almost be denied loot in the Jade Maw fight once (bad luck and downed due to bad placement during the second agony pulse). I think the threat of being reported was all that led them to actually rez me.
I’ve run a bit of MF (about 50%) on one of my charas while the rest of them run none. I’ve not noticed any significant increase in drops with that boost. In fact, sometimes it seems I get less than my other charas. But that could just be coincidence.
Did you even bother to read my post past the first sentence?
I stated explicitly that low levels can get by if they knew what they were doing but the OP stated he was NEW.
You can gain the requisite experience in only a run or two if you are a decently skilled player. And you can find plenty of friendly groups that will not mind provided you let them know you are new to the dungeon. Some people (like myself and my guild) will actually take a bit of extra time to explain encounters.
It actually is a pretty quick way to level alts. 70% of a level is pretty significant for a few minutes (or less) of work. Do that three times if you are clearing all paths of a dungeon? Over 2 levels. Of course you always want to make sure it is okay with your party before doing so or you might foster resentment/dislike or get kicked.
Best time is 80. Any other time you’d basically need to be carried by your team.
You can maybe get by with lower level if you know exactly what you are doing but that requires you to have done those dungeons before and since you are new the best thing to do is wait until you are 80 and have your skill build complete.
Not saying it’s impossible or anything it’s just to save you and your teammates some grief.
Best time is 80, yes, but I don’t believe that sub-80s always get carried. I have run a sub 80 chara many times in AC and sometimes it felt as if I was carrying more weight than some of the 80s. What truly matters is not the gear or the level (within reason, of course), but the players skill and familiarity. The idea of ‘you must be 80 to explorable’ is a bit elitist and misleading. You don’t. You just need to know what you are doing.
Yes, it is considered griefing/scamming. Yes, you should report them.
The main problem is you lose all group chat log when you are kicked from group, so unless you remember perfectly the names of the people that did it there’s no way for you to even report them.
What makes it worse is that ANet has taken no official stance on this so technically it is not against the rules.
Actually, there has been an official response on this matter in this thread.
Alienware does make good systems, but the prices tend to start at 1k and just go up from there (and quickly). As for resolution vs performance? Higher resolutions will always take a performance hit, but 1600×900 is still lower than 1920×1080 (1080p), which the video cards in both of these machines should be able to handle with little issue.
Yes, it is considered griefing/scamming. Yes, you should report them.
I’d definately suggest the Lenovo. I personally don’t trust Acer build quality. I do like ASUS, but the video card in the ASUS is quite a bit inferior to the on in the MSI and the Lenovo. The max resolution on the MSI is lower 1366 × 768, which I often find to be too low for gaming.
So if you don’t mind the laptop being a whopping 17", go with the Lenovo. Otherwise, MSI.
I am soo confused every time I see this comment. Didn’t they try to design explorer mode to be just that, hard mode? Soo…we don’t want to have a challenge in hard mode, we just want to be able to do it, but maybe they should create a hard mode?
I completed all of the hard mode dungeons in GW1, and I do find that some of the dungeon paths in GW2 are comparable in difficulty. Yes they can be difficult, but a good team can still clear it with relative ease once they know how. But that is true in all games and instances. Once you know the tricks and mechanics, the content largely loses it’s challenge to you.
As I see it, the problem is that some don’t feel challenged by any of the content. But to make the dungeons difficult enough for those individuals, you will be raising the difficulty level above the acceptable for (what I believe is) the majority of players. ANet must ride the line between what the ‘hardcore’ players want and what the normal players want.
Typically people farm dungeons for tokens (for exotic gear and weapons), and for the monies. AC, CoF, and Fractals tend to be the ones ran for monies. Most of the other dungeons are only run for tokens.
You will get the best success by running dungeon explorables at level 80 in good gear, but some dungeons (AC especially) can easily be run at the recommended levels (which is 5 levels higher than the story mode).
Just about any hour you can find one person or another running dungeons. If you can’t find a group in LA or on the map the dungeons is located in, I might recommend you try GW2LFG.
The best type of gear you can run is the gear most suited to your build. Specific gear is not required for any dungeon. Just run what is best for the skills and class you have.
He’s talking about seemingly the hardest dungeon (Arah) so obviously it shouldn’t be targetted at the average player, for them you have 5-6 other easier dungeons which are said to be easy for majority of players which means he’s below average if he complains about those easier dungeons.
Dungeons are supposed to be challenging to the average player, so if someone is having trouble it does not necessarily mean they are below average.
Dungeons were advertised as a content for hardcore players, they should increase their difficulty level, not normalize it to average player.
Increasing the difficulty of existing dungeons will just drive more people away from dungeons, not invite more in. Yes, a small subset of ‘hardcore’ players might like it (hardcore players tend to complain regardless), but they would lose a lot more than they would gain.
Considering the uproar of hutt burt this change would bring, it is preferable to implement a hard mode for full exotic/ascended DM teams.
I would fully support a ‘Hard Mode’ for those that want a challenge. That way those that want a challenge get their challenge (maybe) and those that just want to enjoy the game still can.

I’ve run GW2 on Windows 8 since GW2 was in beta and Windows 8 was still a dev preview. I’ve yet to have a single issue.
Seriously, get a grip. This game is by no means difficult, even the boss you mentioned as “impossible to doge omg!” has been soloed on multiple occasions by now. When you mess up, you die, and for that to be meaningful we need we need some sort of immediate punishment. Before this, it was hardly even possible to fail most boss fights, because as long as you could keep him in combat, you would wear him down eventually, even though your group sucks.
We need to allow bad groups to fail, and denying rez does just that, better then a casual <10 sec jog from the last waypoint at least.
This is not a game like Dark Souls. Not everyone here in all dungeons is looking for an extremely hard challenge. Just because you do not find the content challenging does not mean that it is not challenging for everyone. The dungeons need to get tuned to be difficult to the average player, so it is understandable that some like yourself are not challenged. But to make them all at the challenge level you might prefer would be far above the difficulty threshold for a large majority of players.
That being said, I approve of the removal of rez-rushing. It is bad as it eliminates the need to learn the encounters in lieu of people simply being able to rush it.
The trebuchet one can be gotten in the Mists lobby. There is a treb there you can fire. It should net you completion by using it.
You can report players in game using the through the game client by right-clicking on the player name and choosing ‘Report’. I believe the ‘Scamming’ option is what is supposed to be used for those who take advantage of others in this manner.
An exploit, no. Taking advantage of other party members? Potentially. Dungeon completion is a big chunk of experience, though worth less money on a low level chara.
I, personally, have done this in AC before, but I switch before the boss to a chara that can still handle the dungeon and I do it with the approval of my party. If you are concerned that people may do this, ask beforehand so you know what to expect.
I have to put in one more suggestion for Tarnished Coast. A very active and friendly bunch in all areas of the game, provided you don’t mind running across the occasional RP.
Both players can get progress only if they are currently on the same story quest when you enter it. If you are on different story quests, then only the one who entered the instance will get completion.
I think this depends on what you call a “daily”. If you’re looking for dungeon tokens, you get 60 tokens per explorable path only once a day on your entire account. For instance, if you do path 1 of Ascalonian Catacombs on one character and net 60 tokens at the end, there’s no use in switching to another character and do path 1 again, you will get fewer tokens unless you do a path you haven’t done that day.
I think the daily reward chest in fractals is only once per day per fractal range (0-9, 10-19 etc) per account as well but I never tried that so I could be wrong here.
Not quite true. Progress in both Fractals and dungeons is tracked per chara. If you want to get full rewards in a dungeon, though, you will not want to do the same path back to back between charas or you can still (strangely, somehow) get hit by DR.
I have tested this in both dungeons and Fractals as I tend to run a Fractal 10 daily on 2+ charas a day for the chest.
If you want great ranged attack, ele is powerful across the board. They are a bit on the squishy side while levelling, but traited in late game they are near impossible to kill.
I might suggest posting here.
Yes. Progress is tracked separately and you can get the dailies on each chara.
Also, pay very close attention to people if they get crystalled. If some gets stuck in a crystal, you need to break them out asap or it is highly likely they will get downed/defeated.
A while back before release they said story should be easy and explorer hard. What we have now both is easy and explorer is just another farm for silver.
It is great that you find them all easy. That is not true for most players. Most find the dungeons challenging and some still find them impossible.
If all dungeons (or even most) get tuned be be at the difficulty you would prefer, most players would never touch dungeons again. Just like you don’t want ANet to cater the dungeons only to the casuals (which they do not do), they also need to avoid catering only to the elites. Both options are bad long-term.
The (x/2) means you have x items equipped with that particular rune, and as such you only have the first x bonuses unlocked. You only apply one rune per armor piece. To get the bonuses, you need to apply the runes to different armor pieces.
Actually don’t try Arah, that would make you quit the game.
I wholeheartedly agree. Get a lot of experience and practice before you attempt Arah explorable. And be prepared for repair bills. It is very unforgiving, even to experienced parties.
I main a ranger, even in dungeons, and still love playing the class. Yes, the pet AI is quite finicky and likes standing right in the middle of AoE circles. Overall, though, it is still a good class if you learn how to play it well and how to micro-manage your pet.
For support, one of the best things a ranger can bring is Healing Spring. Area heal + regen + condition removal every 30 seconds. That is one of (if not the) most useful heal. Rangers also have spirits for support, but they tend to die a bit too easily to be reliable, even if you trait for them.
I do agree with SoPP, though, in that rangers are not that great in WvW. I actually take my ele alt to WvW in lieu of my main. I find that the only really useful place for a ranger in WvW is on top of a keep with a traited 1500 range longbow.
Just my two cents.
4pm server time (midnight UTC/GMT).
CoE is not as bad as some make it out to be. If you know how to dodge and know teamwork, then you should have little trouble completing it. Res rushing has never been needed for CoE.
Warrior, Mesmer, Guardian, and Elementalist are generally seen as the most effective in all areas. Thieves are good in PvP and WvW, but are a bit weak in PvE/dungeons. Rangers are often seen as too dependent on bad pet AI for a significant chunk of their damage.
Some of us don’t care about the points or the prestige. I personally only want the title as it is a PvE goal to achieve.
Dodge is far less limited than people give it credit for. One needs to learn what needs to be dodged and what must be strafed or just taken. I have yet to find a place that rez-rushing is required. Even in Arah.
Without removing the ability to waypoint during combat, many groups were not learning/using the mechanics intended and instead just rushing and using brute force (and deaths) to achieve the goal. That was not the original intention of these instances. Yes, some of the instances were (and some still are) quite difficult to complete. Many have been altered to make them more achievable, and more changes are coming next month as the dungeons get further refined.
Removing the ability to WP is having a worse impact on pushing people away from learning dungeons for many groups. Groups are already skipping Kholer more often in my experience because with a pug this fight becomes a massive time sink when one or two people keep dieing. I am spending so many of my pug experiences almost soloing bosses now, it’s not very fun.
I have run AC multiple times, sometimes with new folk, since the update. We still fight Kholer and have no issue.
The thing is that even inexperienced people can run all dungeons with little issue (except maybe Arah; that kitten is hard!). You just need a decent group that understands both how to play their chara and how to play as a group. If people are not helping others back up when they are downed, then that is a fault of the group, not of the dungeon.
I don’t think a longer leash is desirable. Yes, it would make running harder. Unfortunately without making the leash infinite, people will still find ways of running past. And making the leash infinite would unfairly punish players who accidentally slightly overagg.

I am actively trying to get a group together for Arah path 4 on NA server. If anyone is interested in making the attempt, or helping those trying to complete it, please let me know!
At the current point in time, no. Right now the only way to gain laurels is the 1 per day for the daily and the 10 per month for the monthly.
Standard Ori nodes always respawn at 4pm server time (Midnight UTC/GMT). The only exception are Rich Orichalcum Nodes that also have an internal 24 or so hour timer from when you last harvested them.
Guardians, warriors, and bunker eles tank in your group. Other classes can’t tank dungeon damage.
Warriors and thieves are the premier damage dealers in your group, followed after by eles and mesmers.
Utility wise, eles and guardians are your go to professions. Lesser support classes are necromancers and engineers.
Rangers are a bad PvE class regardless.
Great PvE profession. Pathetic dungeon profession. Massive overhaul required.
Rangers can actually be quite useful and good in dungeons so long as the ranger in question knows how to micro-manage their pet. A well-played ranger is hard to kill and can output sustained damage and conditions. Pets may not be the most useful in the boss fights, but they are good against all other mobs if handled well.
Hmm. I am still highly interested in this path of this dungeon and can bring a ranger, ele, or guardian (NA servers).
Most classes work well with Guardians, but melee classes do tend to synergize better. One thing to note about the Guardian is that it has very low damage output, so you will want a class that has good DPS.
TA is far easier than Arah. Also, the 60 token rewards are once per path per character. If you can run dungeons with an alt, you can massively speed up token acquisition.
AC has good stat sets for many classes if you don’t mind transmuting. Two of my alts are wearing transmuted AC gear.
There are those two ways. I’ve never cared for the karma trains or endless Orr event farming, personally.
It does reset per map change. I finally got it through a marathon session of crafting after levelling 3 characters to level 80 and getting full world exploration.
What also is going on my nerves is that no one seems to have the patience to let me watch the cutscenes. I at least want to watch them once to get the story and everything behind it. even in explorable mode
You need to find the right groups. Some just want to run and don’t want to watch. Good groups will be patient as we were all there once. Just preface your desire beforehand and find a group that is good with it.
Yes, you can easily guest on any server. Guesting is accessed on the chara selection screen in the bottom corner. No, you do not need an invite. And no, you cannot WvW while guesting. You will get shunted back to your actual server if you try to jump to WvW.
I have also seen this behaviour, but it only began when I started launching the game through Steam.
You’ve eliminated all but mesmer, necro and engineer, of which both necro and engineeer are more support than powerhouse. If you want good power in PvE, PvP, and WvW, I’d probably recommend elementalist, guardian, mesmer, or warrior. Yes they are overplayed, but they are overplayed for a reason. They do well in all areas of the game and support many builds. Thieves are powerful in WvW and PvP, but are pretty bad in general PvE and dungeons. Rangers are strong in general PvE and good in dungeons if you can micro the pet, but are comparatively weak in WvW and PvP.
