Guys you are being so cynical. I’ve been highly critical myself of the lack of attention for WvW but let’s give them a chance here: The new map looks great and they are aware of the issues we brought up.

Let’s see what comes out of this, hopefully the server system will improve and so will the PPT/Reward system. Personally I just wished they would keep the Alpine map and bring EotM in the PPT rotation as well.

Not raging, flaming or anything but:
- What chance are you talking about?
3 Years not enough?

In my opinion it’s about time to stop using words such as “please”, and start demanding stuff.

How to Balance an MMO

Then rework the Player vs Player formula.
And there is no need to split things into 3/4/5 or how much is needed.

What’s the problem to make an official post with application for players willing to help Live testing skills in PvP/WvW?
It will allow to nail bugs which would be extremely annoying(1-2 shotting possibility).
And also would allow to keep up with adjustment of skill attributes and it’s behavior.

My idea is very simple:
- Skill Z receive increased m% damage
- Skill X receive reduced cooldown by L seconds
- Skill C receive reduced n% damage
- Skill V receive additional base attribute

etc etc etc.

And by values, those can be really around 3~7%.
By adjusting all skills like that, there is a chance to bring those skills on pair with one another which in fact lead to possibility to create another build which will be viable and new.

Why not do that?
- Trapper Thief?
- Glamour Mesmer?
- Signet builds?
- Full elixir engineers?
- Gadget Engi?
- Trickster Thief?
- Spirit Weapon Guards?
- Spectral Necros?
- Shout Rangers?
- Spirit Rangers?
- Physical Warriors?
- Arcane Ele?
- Glyph Ele?
- Conjure Ele?

Those are only examples I came up with, but look how many builds would already appear in PvP and would allow people to play what they want and still contribute to their teams depending how they alone perform, not how build perform.

Of course, Meta would be meta, and meta people would whine for meta, because meta is meta. But it would be something that maybe would belong to eSport alone.

Of course some balances would kick in here and there, approx every 6 months, but changes would rather be insignificant as much and maybe – we would see another sets of Skill types for each class to increase further build diversity.

Problem is that Anet doesn’t have balls to ask community for help.
Doesn’t have balls to admit that they kittened up.
No balls to work with community to improve game modes and make majority enjoy it.

Well, maybe it’s a time to grow a pair so in time, eSport arena in Gw2 would grow double time if not triple or more.

If So, are you going to be fine with a hot patch every 2-3 hours? I’m having a feeling a lot of people forgot how many patches happened in Guild Wars 1 when they had everything split off separately….

It got ridiculous to the point of a patch to fix a patch that was originally meant for a future patch to fix a previous patch that day.

I am probably one of EU top roamers. I roam in EotM between towers and pour hot oil over upscaled noobs. I have 9 wins and 0 loses in 1 vs 1 fights. Usually i don’t fight back if some lamer try to kill me so i don’t really lose.

Because narrowing PvP to 1 build per class is the newest Anet’s idea how to conquer eSport.

They have figured out that it’s not diversity but static build that can compete with MOBA games such as LoL or Dota or even CS as FPS in eSport arena.

Personally I’m getting more and more impatient to see how kitten Gw2 will become because of that in near future.

At least it´s a statement that goes a bit beyond the usual “we hear you, we read the forums bla bla bla”. But as others have said Anets actions speak louder than 1000 words or posts. If Anet is really changing their policy regarding WvW and start to take it serious i would be very excited.

I’ve read the whole statement and I get the feeling that author is either delusional or is making fun of us – in most of it’s part.

Pretty much because actions which were taken toward WvW discard most of what has been written.

During this time, I conducted several discussions on our public forums about a number of issues related to World vs. World. From this we determined that we needed to focus on a number of core issues.

Here is a funny part.
After such a long time they determined that they need to focus on a number of core issues.
Well, even a bear wakes up earlier than they do.

We want to bring back tournaments and we want to bring them back in the form of seasons where everyone knows well in advance when the next tournament is coming.

Been like a year since last WvW tourney.
Is it really hard to enable it once per 3-4 months?

Not like enabling it will change anything in current world rankings.

After Adopt-A-Dev we spent some time discussing and debating the results. Even though a good portion of the team was already dedicated to working on World vs. World content and features for Heart of Thorns, we assigned people to start tackling these problems and more.

Great. Usual bs presented by mediocre developer.
Focus on expansion and middle finger to current situation.
One of the reasons why I no longer purchase Gems.

While we’re working on more solutions for the areas I have outlined, we’re excited about the updates Heart of Thorns will be bringing to World vs. World as well!

The game is 3 years old, IF their PvP was ever going to be an E-Sport, they really missed the mark. It is pretty much to late for their E-Sport to tale off, it’s widely viewed as more of a casual get in get out kind of mode. Some people are very active with it but I would argue that it’s not enough for the mode to excel any further. Keep in mind GvG’s in the past have produced more viewers then ANY TPvP tourny/Match that Anet has provided.

Doesn’t matter how old it is really.

Guild Wars pretty much was always a title that did stick with certain group of people – not sure why – maybe because no fancy flashy stuff.

But still, as I did mention regarding balance stuff in PvP forum, we still could make closed tournaments, even without ESL.

If we did in fact balance classes enough to make each class viable with at least 2-3 viable builds(not OP, just viable), then PvP mode would increase greatly in activity.
We would have probably even a lot of private tournaments and finally more and more teams would form to compete in official Tournaments hosted by Anet – with ESL or without, doesn’t matter.

This in fact would also have a positive impact on WvW, because builds would be pretty much balanced and viable either for GvG, ZvZ, small scale fights or even for roamers.

I know that WvW has many more viable builds than PvP mode, but increasing amount of them would still be very beneficial to WvW and what’s more, fun and enjoyable.

Perhaps, finally people who left due to some reasons based on WvW and PvP would return and increase the population.

And finally, maybe, we would be granted a single map that would be small team/roaming based.

In my opinion, WvW system is something many games lack – imo most games have such content, but it’s poorly developed and making it more interesting would require lot of developing time.
In Gw2 case, we have Badge system and Tournament Ticket system – could use that and introduce a nice way for nice rewards and like mentioned before – add some system that would allow Roamers or small teams contribute to server by infiltrating enemy land and stealing something like Generators or whatnot.

In other words, both, WvW and PvP have a great potential which doesn’t really require as much developing time(except proposed map and Generator system), to introduce things that would lure more players and encourage them to participate in those modes.

Problem is – Anet doesn’t want to.
Or maybe NCSoft doesn’t want to.

I don’t care which one – potential is wasted if not properly taken care of.

The only excuse I can give for Anet i regards to balances is that, the issues people seem to QQ about isn’t an issue at all. The ones that are an issue, got a balance fixes.

Example: People complained about Ele’s for months leading up to the patch. Patch hits, now people QQ about Mesmers as well as Eles. Mesmers received a nerf bat while Eles remain unchanged.

One could say that Eles were always fine and never needed a nerf while the immediate Mesmer buff from patch got a quick fix thereafter.

When people say "game needs a balance, things needs to be fair, ", I question exactly what needs balancing and what people’s definition of “fair” is. There are so many builds/skills/traits and team comps that people simply aren’t utilizing, it’s difficult for the devs to pinpoint exactly what’s inbalanced.

Sure.
But here’s a problem.

Those balance changes hit two contents:
- PvP
- WvW

In this aspect, both modes need to be treated on pair.

Within, there is also a need to balance two types of damage sources:
- Power
- Condition

And here are the issues we have
Anet is regularly boosting condition, nerfing power(till trait patch recently).

Condition builds which mechanics are way too overpowered in matter of too much damage output + high survivability, are simply ignored – PU Condi mesmer for example.

The task is rather simple.
It’s not a big deal to bring all those builds and classes together and tweak them to the point, where a personal “skill, experience and knowledge” matters, not broken build.
It’s no rocket science that the outcome won’t be as shiny as it sounds, because there will be certain builds that will have an upper hand against certain ones, but trade off will exist, because those builds won’t be effective against others.

Overall, it is possible to bring all those builds and classes close enough to call it “50:50” chance.

Year ago, Engineer had roughly 4~5 viable builds. And by viable I mean that it could be played and be an asset to team instead of wasted slot.

Today, we have like 1? Maybe 2 where both aren’t that much different from one another.

Thief’s Scorpion’s Wire hasn’t been fixed for 3 years – really? It’s a good skill I’ll say. But no one uses it because it’s broken.

What’s more, for several if not few months by now, there is 0 communication between Playerbase and Developer team.
Both in WvW and PvP forum.

Sure, I don’t blame them if they have no time, but that proves that Anet is neglecting us, customers, and their resource distribution sux.

Mesmer was…let’s say OP…against certain things – but mostly was because of Power boost which was unnecessary. And in aspect of downing someone, all power builds were 2-3 shoting each other.
There was no need to nerf Mantras – and now they’re useless pretty much again, while the PU Condi still is a cheese in WvW – well, pvp not because that cleanse aoe spam made me even drop my p/p engi.

I am up for tweaks that will make all classes and their builds viable, despite meta or not. It is possible, but as long as Anet will keep drinking that eSport juice and keep neglecting people who wish to work with them on balancing and keep conversation, then people won’t stop leaving both WvW and PvP as it is happening for a long time by now.

And frankly, new games keep going out, and Action Aim systems are becoming a standard nowadays in MMORPG games.
As I’m not trying to threaten, but many people will simply leave and play something else, before they’ll hate Gw2 due to bad development and management.

Agreed, balance is very crucial for a game’s PvP future. I’m not saying it Anet should slack on balance, but the balance team is indeed very busy with designing the new elite specs and the new class. Its kinda just to say that the world isn’t as golden as we want.

Yeah, that’s a good excuse for being unable to fix certain bugs and balance issues for 3 years – and every 6 months with major balance fix it’s getting worse and worse.

Point is, if we’ll think with such logic, then there is no need to demand or expect anything because there is always “something” that they’ll be busy with or whatnot.

After HoT update we will have what? Specialization balance issues?
And still loads of things which are in use that call for a touch since the very beginning are on abandoned list because…reasons?

I’m not really sure about how can you think that that is a perfectly valid and irrefutable proof that Cele Necro hardcounters D/D ele…

Yes, Noscoc annihilated the ele, but can any necro always reproduce the same output? Can every necro win every duel against any D/D ele? Let’s say, with a 95% CI? Because that’s what a hardcounter is. Until that, I’ll still think cele necro is a softcounter of D/D ele, totally not a hardcounter.

We could ask noscoc to duel phantaram on point 10 times and that would answer our questions :P

Depends what we believe to be hard and soft counters.
The reason why many claim that Necromancer is the biggest Nemesis of Elementalists, is because Ele is very boon dependent.
And obviously Necro has quite a nice access to boon stripping skills.

Question I would ask, if so Necro is a hardcounter against ele, then what is thief or mesmer?

Well, thief not much in boon stripping, but can steal some nice boons and boost itself for sure.

But mesmer for sure has a handful of assets to take care of d/d ele and boon spamming.

I just want Anet to actually pay attention to the game mode instead of “allowing” 1 or 2 devs from time to time to do stuff and degrade it even further with a lack of testing.

It’s hard to ask players to voluntary test it.

Imo, I would like a similar system as it was in Rift, Aion or even Tera – rifting aka invading enemy territories.

Could add specific points on each map which contribute to your server – we have Generator system in EotM, could use that.

Constant war, constant fights.

This would introduce small scale fights and would invite more roamers.

But there is one requirement to fulfill in order to do that – stop looking only at kitten eSport.

Though mantras recharging in background was op, especially with the short cd they have.

It wasn’t OP.
You still had to cast each of them afterwards which put you in very vulnerable spot.

I personally had problems with charging healing mantra when fighting hard CC spammers.
And obviously you can’t do anything beyond just running in any direction while casting mantra.

No no they didn’t listen to the QQ at all if they did only CS and PU would have been nerfed. They did a “spin the wheel” over what to nerf to upset mesmers.

Precisely that’s what they did.
Finally Mantra spec became viable and was tested and used by many, because it was awesome.

But like I mentioned in another thread.

Anet cannot tone down a little, they grab a chainsaw and rip apart whole build.

And it’s actually disturbing that such builds like PU condi or d/d ele are left alone or slightly boosted…

That alone shows that diversity in Guild Wars 2 didn’t exist, doesn’t exist and will not exist.
As long as things will keep going as they do of course.

It’s like, letting them in the kitchen and tell them to take a kitchen knife and cut a little bit of cheese, but instead, they grab a chainsaw and cut the cheese along with the table.

That’s how Balance in Gw2 looks like.

Tho it’s funny how Ele is resistant to it.

Not sure how people here being rude and biased is relevant at all, unless they consider the entire customer base to be that.

What kind of business avoids answers just because their customers were mean? They aren’t friends or family, and they certainly aren’t doing it out of the goodness of their own hearts. You’re right that they don’t have to answer, but that doesn’t mean people can’t keep asking and expecting an answer. And that was a pretty popular issue at the time.

Let’s name things properly.
Anet is giving middle finger to Gw2 players for whatever reason(expansion isn’t an excuse for what’s happening since the beginning of 2015).

There is zero communication between Anet and players.
What’s more, it seems that devs do make changes and it appears that playerbase aren’t pleased by them even one bit.

Since I don’t use devtracker and sit in couple of forum sections, did they fix the Stability lag issue that started with it’s change in March?
Did they even reverse the decreased player entry pool for WvW maps from March?

Well, let’s be frank.
WvW content is losing players constantly.
PvP content is losing players constantly.
PvE content is losing players too, but it’s not noticeable as with WvW and PvP contents.

I personally lessened my activity in game, and stopped participating in some contents as I used to before, because of simply two reasons:
1. Anet doesn’t care at all
2. Anet is inventing and implementing features that are irritating, frustrating, not enjoyable and what’s more, they refuse to talk about it.

Quite sad to point it out, but ArenaNet has reached the level of publishers such as Gameforge, PerfectWorldEntertainment, Webzen or Nexon.

By the attitude presented by Anet till now, if they plan to develop GW3, I would rather ask them to not and drop it.

Hmm alright so engi is still good but it’s not as ideal as Ele and warr ofc. I mean is the difference over engi and warrior huge? Everyone seems to think warrior is dirt poor now but I still enjoy it.

Can’t see power rifle on metabattle… Hmm is it worth going back to engi or just sticking out Ele and warr. It’s hard when all 3 are equally fun haha, now it’s all about winning.

There is nothing ideal.

Depends how good you are on the class you play.

Problem with engi is that, it had many viable builds, so you didn’t see one strict build all the time, but you could see a variety of them in with every match.

Simply, but recent changes, especially to Engi, Anet pinned coffinnail to most builds leaving pretty much only one – Power Rifle, with few changes depending on personal liking.

P/P Burn engi is weak – I personally played it for a long time and enjoyed it – Anet rekt it.
Turret Engi useless – liked that build due to few reasons, one was how mad people were getting, and how it proved that people are simply silly beyond imagination.

CeleEngi – I don’t see this build anymore, and it was rare even before. Another Coffinnail granted by Anet.

By far, Warrior wasn’t a victim of silly changes, and it’s still enjoyable as was before – tho I miss my 100% burst crit in Strength line.

Nothing to even be sad about since this fact is known for a long time:
- Anet cannot do balance changes at all. Either the ridiculously power something up, or nerf it to the point, where people forget those builds completely.

They don’t understand and know how to “tone a little bit”.

Thief has more access to stealth and can stealth a lot longer. If the thieves you face are that predictable, then they are doing it wrong. I am sorry, but that is really my opinion.

Perhaps it is a bit much to ask to carry 2 stun breakers. But that is what I always do – also when playing mesmer.

Problem that lies here is that, Mesmers stack loads of conditions on you and stealth themselves.
While he’s hidden, conditions are ticking.
Thief doesn’t have such luxury, because to damage you, he has to reveal himself.

In this matter, it simply makes PU mesmer way overboard, and Confusion should be reworked in that aspect, because despite PU build being totally safe, it punishes it’s opponent for trying to be defensive as well – and that part is about Confusion where Mesmer is stacking it high on you, and anything you use, turns out to be ~2.5k in the face.

Well, PU build should’ve been reworked long time ago, because it favors two highest conditions – torment and confusion.

And both can be stacked highly in little time frame.
Oh, and re-aplication of both is comparable to bleed spam on all classes.

How much time does it take to re-release something niche in the shop in the mean time?

i know about rom, indeed i’ve done some modify for be more safe…
vpn isn to much safe too the system was already broken, but ofc it help, isnt not easy to use the tecnology w/o be spyed, but if they wanna know something about me, they should use a direct attack to me, i’m not a polititian, i’m not a terrorist or someone who have some kind of information, i’m just a normal man, so no one will attack me directly, and if they do, they will found gw2 and tv series

i just hate to make this normal for big company as default

come back in topic i like what dx12 does, but i dont like all this closed source, the big Brother is inside there, so i’d like to anet will develop the next engine with some open source or Linux/older window version friendly w/o loosing the chance to have better graphic and performance, so i suggest vulkan but everything else than DX 12 is fine too

this game with dx9 is the beautiest mmo, there is alot of dx11 mmo or game, with a worst graphic out there

They could use SDL libraries and whole game would be compatible with all OSes and platforms.

But who are we kidding anyway.
Despite the fact that it’s easier and better to use SDL, still every nab dev will go for MS and it’s o’kewl DX no?

ask rom about his duels with kervv too see if war has any chance against cele d/d then come back…if i say that war has no way to kill a good ele it’s because i know it, and it’s widely proven (And not at random unranked levels…i’m not talking about casual pvp here)

One thing I do agree on is that there is way too much boon hugging and not enough boon counters. You pretty much just have signet necro. Thief/Mesmer boon removal isn’t much of a counter when it’s just used for focused burst.

Classes such as Guardian or Elementalist are Boon dependent.

Meddling with boons would require to work those classes as well.

I think you don’t know what you have written.

Despite the fact that Warrior in matter of spiking is weaker than Guardian, it’s comparably durable and posses much higher mobility for example.

The weapon sets given to Warrior makes it a class capable of fighting outnumbered and leaving current fight at any time.

If you will boost damage on Warrior’s weapons, you will only make the class more deadly and ease fights where a single warrior is outnumbered.

Due to high HP, Warrior doesn’t really need Endure Pain which only put all incoming direct damage to 0, because it’s basic defenses are already high enough to survive long enough to stomp anyone.

What you must realize is that Endure Pain isn’t a God Mode and infact it doesn’t do anything beyond prolonging Warrior’s death.

During Endure Pain, Warrior is still vulnerable to all CCs and Conditions available in game.

Well, to be frank, Warrior is at this moment the most balanced class and doesn’t really need anything in matter of boosting or nerfing :P

Warrior needs a slight damage nerf to rampage and a slight buff to it’s natural weapon skills & trait arrangements.

Yeah, let’s buff power damage formula for warrior’s weapon skills, so it’ll be easier to go 1v5.

People survive with 80%+ HP after mesmer popped Moa on them, and you have a problem to kite someone for 15 sec with your weapon and utility skills?

Burst Skills are like skills with cooldowns and have very little requirements for activation.
Also, warrior has Shouts with good traits and runes for them.

Well, looking at the specific class mechanic system, Thief is in the worst position here.

Burst skill has one single requirement to activate – it must land on something and deal at least 0 crit/noncrit damage.

Thief has great access to stealth so precisely, overall condition removal isn’t that much of an issue.

Hence, thief pretty much has the best condition removal system.
But that applies to skilled ones only and most of the builds.

Also, no need to talk about War’s shoutbow because it’s the only Warrior’s build with safe-skill-use Condition removal.

And Ele? Swapping to Water.

Also, ele has Cantrips with good traits for them.
