Regardless of your taste or mine on the Fractals, I am very much looking forward to the return of Cantha and Elona. Anyone have the confirmation Forum post where they confirmed recently that Cantha would return? Someone mentioned it in the Livestream chat and I have not seen it.

Is this supposed to be a good news? No one liked them… and i can assure you that for lev40+ EVERYONE will be skipping these two. So this is just two additional fractals everyone will skip like they skip dredge/shaman/cliffside. GG.

Funny, I see a lot of people screaming about wanting those dungeons back….

like the kind of people who’ve missed these and want to try them now… No one that was doing them/done over 5 runs of each cares.

I ran them both over 5 times. I am very excited to see them return. You don’t speak for everyone so don’t act like your opinion is the be-all end-all of what the community wants.

oh but i’ve spoke to a lot of people about these two when they were available, no one liked them. on this forum im not surprised to see so much positivity about these two mini dungeons because most people here are fanboys who go crazy even if they add something as minor as a ONE new mini pet… Both of these mini dungeons are far from ‘fun’ or great.

I disagree. The people I’ve spoken to disagree. Saying that you’ve spoken to people means nothing to me. All I see is 1 person with an opinion. I like the dungeons – I like MF more than AR but hey if they’ll both be returning as Fractals I’ll welcome their return.

Sorry if you don’t like em, but Anet already confirmed it, which means it’s in the works. But hey you can always skip em!

Didnt they double the points in gw1? And bonusses all week long, it is way easier to get. Go get them if you want them.

Yeah frequently through GW1 they’d double faction points to ease the title grind.

@OP, it takes a while. Well over 1,000 hours of play time. Well worth the time investment though. GW1 is one of my favorite games (not just MMOs) of all time.

People trying to remove what others have earned out of greed and jealousy.

Indeed, you are pretty accurately describing some GW1 “veterans” here…

Yeah except we didn’t ASK for any bonuses. ArenaNet gave them to us to say thank you. So how is being given things and being grateful being greedy? I’d love to know your logic to that one.

I’ll ask it again. Do you SERIOUSLY think that ArenaNet would go “Ok, people on the forums complaining about leaderboards have a good reason to be mad (you don’t, by the way) so we’re going to remove all HoM point sfrom GW2 even though we said we’d reward HoM in GW2 from the very beginning.”

Because I have news for you – that’s not going to happen. We’re sorry that you guys didn’t get the memo that HoM was going to be rewarded in GW2. We’re not sorry that it took this update (where people should be glad to get any rewards at all by the way) for you guys to complain about it. Not only complain, but actually attempting to have those achievements stripped from others? Wow.

Not sure what else to say. It’s the entitlement era I guess. People grow up saying “gimme gimme gimme!” and their parents give them what they want and expect life to go the same way. You guys are in for a rude awakening when you get into the real world.

o New Dungeons (permanent ones)
– Possibly 8 or 12 man dungeons like GW1 had.
– Underworld, Tomb of Primeval Kings, and FoW (Can you imagine? /moist)
– Possibly a 3-path Molten Furnace with full token rewards including weapons / armor?

o New Fractals

It’s a nice change to get a new zone with new stuff to do, Bazaar was really different and fun. Had really fun those 4 days and the new achievement sytem is very good.

Looking forward to Crystal Desert in about a week. Hopefully more content than Bazaar of the four winds have.

500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

TehPwnerer.7215

This thread is 9 pages long….? Really? Guys they are not going to remove the HoM points. I don’t see why this discussion continues. The leaderboards are not game changing in the slightest.

Again, I can’t stress this next part enough yet nobody seems to understand. Not every GW1 player got 500 extra AP from the HoM. Only those players who did 50/50 (Which took thousands of hours to achieve) got 500 points extra.

They did this to give 50/50 players an extra chest for free. Sorry this affected your leaderboard progress, since apparently that’s something that matters to some of you, but I’d bet my account that this is not going to change.

And as said above its another game, which should not affect any way the leaderboard of another game… give these players some gold skins karma or w/e but nothing leaderboard related.

Yes it’s another game. ArenaNet said that they’d reward GW2 players that played GW1. They said this before we saw any in-game footage. I fail to see a problem. Leaderboards mean nothing and have no effect on gameplay or player ability or skill determination.

It’s a number. They did this so that HoM players can be closer to an extra achievement chest in GW2 for their efforts in GW1 – which a lot of people would argue is an under-estimate of what the GW1 achievements should be worth.

I’m not sorry or sympathetic for anyone who was bumped down on the leaderboards from this. ArenaNet made it very clear from the beginning that GW1 players who completed hall of monuments would get rewarded justly in GW2 – and here it is.

Achievements are infinite, give it time and the leaderboards will even out from this. And if not, hey, they’re pointless leaderboards that affect nothing anyway.

Is it bad to keep coming first?

Posted by: TehPwnerer.7215

TehPwnerer.7215

The Sanctum Sprint is a competition. A good racer is under no obligation to give up their place to let another player win, even to get their achievement.

That said, it’s a very NICE thing to do, and I think that players who do give up the first place spot to allow other players to get their achievement are shining examples of what makes the GW2 community one of the best of all MMO’s out there. If I was coming first, and someone asked me to stop so they could get the achievement, I’d happily wait at the finish line so they can come first, as long as they weren’t being rude or aggressive about it.

Hasn’t happened once. I’ve done it without people asking. I noticed a guy was coming in 2nd every game right after me and one game I finally was just like, “Ok I’ll let this guy get a 1st place for his achievement in case he doesn’t already have it.” He was ecstatic that after coming top 3 so many games in a row he finally got first for his achievement. He thanked me and that was that. All is right in the world.

But 99.999999% of the time, people will rage and complain / troll / flame you in map chat that you’re a nerd, a tryhard, or any sort of something because you keep winning and they keep losing. If players are generous and polite about the request, I let people go ahead of me to get their achievements up since I already have mine. That being said, I’ve not seen it happen that way once.

These rewards weren’t meant to be unlocked in a week. You guys know this, right? These are always going to be available as players hit these AP tiers. If you see yourself playing this game for at least a few more years, you have nothing to worry about. And if you don’t see yourself playing this game after a year or more, then it won’t matter anyway.

This……

I’m so tired of all of these threads popping up from ungrateful players griping about the achievement point rewards…. They didn’t even HAVE to add these to the game. There is literally no reason to complain about free weapon skins, gold, laurels, and account boosts for getting achievements (which are infinite, by the way).

TehPwnerer.7215

Vayne, all I said was that the philosophies by which GW2 were founded on are the same of GW1.

I have 50/50 and I found everything to be just time consuming – very few were particularly challenging. Sure you could farm wurms or farm kilroy or something, sure. I don’t see the point to ‘earning’ an achievement that way, but nothing was in the game to prevent that and it was an easy way to achieve an otherwise challenging title. Some people chose to do it that way, who cares?

The only exception to this would be RA – which wasn’t skill based at all, but more of how lucky you were to get a monk and also have a team without one.

Erasculio, that has nothing to do with how they have to be mutually exclusive. When you provide me with legitimate reasoning as to why people can’t play the game a lot and possess skill, I will entertain your argument.

I’d also like to know some examples of what you feel should be rewarded that is solely skill based and has nothing to do with any amount of time dedication to the game whatsoever. Don’t even say acquiring a legendary or I’ll disown you.

People always gripe about rewarding time spent rather than skill as if one HAS to exist without the other. Anybody who puts 1,000+ hours into a game can’t possibly be skilled at it too, am I right? Oh.. wait….

I noticed you guys were both in the other similarly themed thread but I am not replying to both. I will leave this reply here and that’ll be it because I’m done talking this topic to death.

Nobody has yet to provide reasonable examples of “rewarding skill instead of time spent.” Also I won’t even mention how every time an achievement is introduced into the game that requires individual skill in a dungeon or something (takes a look at Aetherblade Retreat achievements) everyone says that they’re too hard or impossible to get.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

GW2 doesnt require grinding. ALL grinding in this game is optional. If you want a legendary, you might need to grind, but you dont need a legendary. If you want ascended gear, you might need to grind, but you dont need ascended gear. Grinding is only an issue if you need to grind to advance, which you dont.

That argument is becoming tiresome. And yeah OP I agree – it’s very annoying trying to do Jormag when like 90% of the people there are farming for lodestones with magic find gear and boosts on instead of actually fighting the dragon.

People complaining about things that arent wrong is also tiresome.

I have no opinion in the matter. All I said was that it’s annoying when people farm the mobs at Jormag rather than kill the boss.

Then why quote me? Id be annoyed too if people would hold off an event just to farm.

I accidentally quoted the wrong thing. I meant to quote the post where the OP addressed the same thing.

The point of the AP reward system is in place because you can essentially earn infinite achievement points. They do this to allow for longevity and increased rewards the further you go. Obviously playing the game more is going to net you more rewards than if you play less.

I think it’s fine and off topic, I’d love to stop seeing the same thread with a different title.

Thank you for your input. However I have a different opinion and give reasons why it should not be infinite.

I don’t see whats wrong with having a cap as Anet keeps adding new sources for achievement points. And the previous points I mention.

I don’t see your reason to respond so negatively unless you feel threatened by the loss of a few achievement points? Which is the whole point, they are too easy to obtain and devalue the others categories.

Thank you again for your opinion, albeit with lack of support.

It’s not that I agree or disagree it’s that the game was designed with infinite achievement points in mind. Being an achievement hunter in many previous games & MMOS, I don’t like the system. But It’s one of those things that is quite literally past the point of no return.

You mean, the same Guild Wars that had “skill > time spent” as one of its main design philosophies?

I’m not sure why they have to be mutually exclusive. As if players who spend a lot of time in a game aren’t able to be skilled at the same time. That’s one thing that all the forum…goers (to avoid an infraction) say that really irks me.

I’m getting to the point where I’m not sure what’s worse.

  • People thinking that there would ever be an MMO where rewards did not require some repetition (or a lot) of content.
  • People trotting out the Manifesto, as if trying to rub ANet’s nose in it to prove that they should be rewarded ASAP with things put into the game to provide longer term goals.

The Manifesto never promised no grind with regard to access to rewards — such as skins, titles and achievements. A look into what it took to acquire skins and titles in GW should have told people what to expect. If anything, GW2 is more lenient than GW in that regard. However, the Manifesto’s promise was that you would not have to grind to get to the point you could have fun. The whole game experience was designed to be fun. However, no game is going to hit the sweet spot that spells fun for every player.

Exactly. It was the same with GW1. You were able to get everything done in the game and not miss out on anything by not farming or grinding. However optional achievements / rewards were available for those who wanted to put the extra time and effort into the game.

Achievements can be earned in both PvP (structured & tourney) as well as WvW and PvE. The PvP reward chests are there because the achievement chests we’re getting every day aren’t to reward PvE players – but everyone.

By including WvW tokens, PvE stuff and PvP skins, you reward everyone for their achievement efforts. I am not signing this “petition” because these aren’t rewards for PvE players – but all players.

On top of that, even if they flat out removed the PvP reward chest from these achievement chests, you’re still getting a TON of stuff.

We got “free” things by putting 1000s of hours into GW1 and earning them over the course of 7 years or so. The bump in HoM points has already been discussed as far as GW2 achievement points go.

They did the bump as an extra thank you to GW1 vets. Previously each HoM tier (which there are 10 of in GW2 achievements) were worth a total of 20 points IF you had 50/50 HoM points. They bumped it up to 50 points per tier instead of 2 because 2 was insulting for the amount of work that had to go into it.

The problem is they put in a ranking achievement AND a “do this 25 times” achievement. Every race after my (2nd? or 3rd?) I’ve come in either 1st or 2nd place. There is that one race here and there where I mess up and get like 10th, but I’d say 9 times of 10 I am in first or second place.

That being said, it annoys me a bit when people troll and flame me that I am winning in a competitive event… Not sure what kind of world these people grew up in.

Bottom line is I’m more than happy to sit at the finish line and get someone their achievement who hasn’t gotten first place yet. The problem is, it’s not that they request it, it’s that they demand it. That’s where I draw the line.
