emmm….. i’m confused….. does it matter if the person beside you have 500 more AP ? is it Skin War now ?
No it matters because he was bumped down on a leaderboard. He has 11,000 achievement points and now there are some people with 11,600. Meaning there were still people far ahead of him before this change.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Has to be his great great great etc grandson then :P Think Nicolas is dead
Well yeah. I’ve visited the graves of Nicholas and Yakkington. Sad stuff. In the OP I even said “something similar” to Nicholas.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
This reward tier was amazing. 15g, 400 gems, a title, and the chest contents.. Very happy with the achievement rewards. Thanks, ArenaNet!
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Yeah I was like O_________O
Very generous chest indeed. Not to mention a title, 15g, 400 gems, and 10 laurels. Very happy with the achievement rewards. I’m closing in on my final chest in the next couple of days but I am very much looking forward to more down the road!
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Couldn’t care less. Magic find is a gimmick mechanic anyway. I’m glad they’re doing away with it as a stat on gear and just putting it as a constant modify er to all characters. That’s a great decision and I like where they’re headed.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Not that I don’t like the updates that were mentioned (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/), but it sounds like one thing will remain true; PvE will remain faceroll easy for the next 5 1/2 months.
/tears for all my hardcore gw2 friends looking for a challenge
Raided in WoW hardcore for about 7 years or so. I’m glad to see a more laxed approach to a game to take sort of a breather for a while. I will rejoice when I see larger scale challenging PvE make its way into the game though.
8 & 12 player dungeons returning from GW1 would be cool, but it does sound like they are aware of this and will work on it in time. The game is under a year old. No game was perfect in a year. Give it time I’m sure we’ll be given something soon enough.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
And have no idea that asking to remove the 500 AP ANet gave GW1 50/50 vets is equally ugly, petty, and greedy? You sir are a hypocrite.
He genuinely believes that we’re greedy because ArenaNet awarded us with bonus stuff for being loyal fans, yet he is the one trying to take away our hard earned achievements. It’s funny yet very sad to think that a person can actually have this sort of mentality.
I’ve said what I’m going to say about him. Any more and I’ll probably get infracted. You all know what the guy is like from just reading his posts through the last 13 pages. No awareness whatsoever of anything besides what he wants.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Late to the party, but I figured I’d add my 50 cents…
PvP and WvW already have leaderboards, so I think that the AP leaderboard should be for PvE only. As such, any points from PvP Dailies/Monthlies/titles and same for WvW should be NOT included so that you get a true measure of PvE accomplishements!
Is that going to happen? Hell no. Since I rarely PvP or WvW, I’m unlikely to crack the top 1000 (although I’m close). Is this the end of the world? No.
ANet was just rewarding dedicated fans of Tyria. If you’re jealous of the extra points that GW1 players got, I hope you’re also QQ’ing about the minis and kites that people who spent money buying gems got because it’s the same kitten thing — ANet rewarding loyal fans.
While you’re at it, why don’t you ask that any points earned during the 3-day head start be dropped too? That was also “unfair” to anyone who didn’t pre-order, wasn’t it?
Oh… And I’m going on a 2-week vacation soon and won’t be able to play, so can ANet please turn off all AP advancement for everyone else because that’s not fair to me either! :P
TLDR version: grow up and get over it!
This guy know what he’s talking about. Though Curaglas or whatever, the biggest whiner in the thread, won’t even read it. And if he does, he will just call you greedy and not comprehend a word of it that you say.
I talked to the guy in game and let me tell you he really is this full of himself and really believes every word he’s typing in this thread should be taken seriously. He assured me he WILL quit the game if this isn’t “taken care of.”
Well, it’s been over a week and he’s still here. Not sure when he’ll quit exactly but good riddance it’ll make this game a better place without him.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
It is just like the dailies, you pick and choose which achievements you want to do. There are achievements that could only be worked on for a few days a year, that could take decades to finish using your example of time played.
If this was true, then no one would have 50/50, since they obviously did not spend decades on this (EotN release 2007) – your argument is flawed.
Since my example took into account for players to play the game 8 hours per day, every day of the year, they surely would find the time it takes to get on those time limited achievements as well.
q.e.d.
Seriously? Are you just trying to play games are do you really have reading comprehension issues? There are NOT 50 achievements in total. There are well over a dozen achievements left AFTER you get 50/50. You can do any 50 of the achievements available to get 50/50, just like you can do any 5 of the 11 dailies to get 5/5. You really are completely clueless how the achievements in GW1 worked or for that fact, anything about them. Your lack of knowledge invalidates your whole argument. You can’t have a discussion if you do not even know the most basic facts about the subject. You can keep posting “your wrong” to every post every other player makes, but it only shows your lack of knowledge on the subject. And to be clear, technically there where no achievements in GW1 at all, they where titles. Some of the points you received in HoM where for owning specific weapons , miniatures or armor as well. Using the term “achievements” is only for the GW2 players who are unfamiliar with how GW1 worked.
Bottom line, you can belly ache all you want, anet is not going to make changes for a couple of players who are clueless and refuse to use common sense.
Try this, go stand in the middle of Lions Arch and ask in map chat how many players are upset about the leaderboard and the APs. Take screenshots of your responses and post them here.
BTW, can you explain with your magical math skills, how a player could find a way to work on achievements when the very event that you needed to get the achievement was gone until the next year? If you can somehow do that, I would like to know as there are a couple of the Halloween events that I would like to do today, but can’t seem to find them?
As I said the guy probably has reading issues. Despite being told from numerous people, several times each that Anet said LONG before GW2 released that they’d reward GW1 players in GW2, I really think he has reading or comprehension problems.
Anyone who threatens the devs by saying “DO THIS OR I QUIT” generally is a joke around the office anyway so just take comfort in the fact that ArenaNet is taking this guy just as seriously as we are.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
When they adjust the WvW achievement points to be on par with PvE ones, giving more significant rewards for the time and efforts of WvW players.
Not at all. This would be ok, if the time it’d take to achieve those points are taken into account. But this would still mean HoM values to 0, since you had to spend 0 time in GW2 to get those points…
And as long as it’s points from GW2 only, that’s fine.
I’m not sure if you just can’t read, are very stubborn or both, but through the last 13 pages at least 100 people have told you that Anet said from the very beginning that they’d be rewarding GW1 players in GW2. This isn’t something that just popped up.
If by now you aren’t grasping that they aren’t going to revoke these achievements or points associated with HoM then I just don’t know what else to tell ya.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Being that this game relys heavily on lore and storylines the NPC we refer to as “Nick” would have to be a descendant or someone who was willing to pick up the torch and carry on once more in Nicks name. Continueing a weekly travel across tyria in memorry if his or her ansestors tradition. Even celebrating the aniversery of Nick the hero? And why not throw in a Yakkslapper Staff to boot.
he does have a descendant in the game named Nick. You don’t get to meet him but you can talk to his friend who is gathering items for him.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/63986-easter-egg-nick-reference-in-gw2/
Haha! That is awesome I’ve never seen that before! So who knows, maybe the wheels are already in motion to bring this sort of thing into GW2. And the previous comment about the zone chat asking if Nicholas is there, haha I love it =)
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Hmm that could actually be interesting, but from a dev standpoint I wouldn’t want to randomize everyone’s pool of required trophies. Generally the area he’s in reflects a bit as to what trophy he is collecting. Why would he collect a trophy from an Ice Ele in Frostgorge when he’s standing down in Ebonhawke?
I think it made sense in GW 1 – set location (randomized) each week to collect trophies relevant to some extent of the area he’s located in.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I have seen quite a fiew amazing Guild Wars 1 Weapons transfered over to Guild Wars 2 and some were my favorites. But Id like to see more, perticularly my favorite Crystal Flame Staff Im pretty dissapointed tho with the Froggy Sceptor though since it has no flower petal or glowing effects. Also the Voltic Spear to, has no voltic effects shimmering all over it. Its so sad to see such a master piece weapon get a Half-a— make over.
Weapons Id love to see come to Guild Wars 2 with origanal Environmental effects.
1. Storm Bow
2. Crystal Flame Staff
3. Ghostly Shields
4. Chaos Axe
5. Celestial Weapons
6. Emberspire Staff
7. Wintergreen Weapons
8. Mursaat Weapons
9. Piroclastic Axe
10. Demon Fangs
Im sure with some help people can think of more. I only remember my favorites .
I’ve been hoping for this stuff since I heard there was going to be a Guild Wars 2. I support this.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
welcome the change, but please refund and compensate for people’s loss.
Don’t count on it. They ask you to confirm each purchase so it’s up to you to make sure you know what you are buying. Keep it as a souvenir or something.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I like the changes coming up. Great blog post, great changes incoming. Can’t wait!

Not sure I see it, Daibish. To me that just seems unorganized and unnecessary. Trophies, gifts, and items inside should be tradable – though I wouldn’t be opposed to some cool new tweaks to the system for GW2 and adding some cool Account-Bound stuff from the gifts as a rare drop (even more rare than say, the mini or the walking stick).
I’m heading to bed though – I look forward to continuing this discussion tomorrow =D
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
He will be back, that I have no doubt. He was too popular in GW1 to not be included and there’s a real niche market for farming junk items.
TP Flippers would start dribbling with excitement and push prices up but so long as the items weren’t overly hard to farm for the rest of us, I think it’s a great idea.
It’s just a question of when.
I agree with you. Personally I’m not a TP flipper and I hate everything they stand for, but I’d like them to be tradable for giveaway purposes. I’d love to be able to help guildies and friends get these much like I did in GW1.
By the way guys, please follow the new thread here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Nicholas-The-Traveler/first#post2435006
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I created this thread in General and someone told me I should post it here instead, so here it is!
__________________________________________________________________
So ArenaNet, I was talking with guild members tonight and we all thought how great it’d be to have an NPC similar to good old Nicholas the Traveler make his way into GW2. I’d love to see weekly item scavenger hunts. You know, all those trophies we usually vendor? Why not make them tradable and have them be items for weekly hunts like they were in GW1?
For those of you not familiar, Nicholas the Traveler was an NPC in Guild Wars 1 who every week would pick a random zone and a trophy he collected for gifts which could be used or traded. Generally containing candy, party items, ally summoning stones (golems, imps, tengu warriors, etc) or even rare items like rare weapons and minipets.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nicholas_the_Traveler
What he awarded each week:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gift_of_the_Traveler
So, how about it ArenaNet! Any plans on bringing something like this into GW2?
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Also a problem with posting this in the suggestion forum is there are so many BAD suggestions that I don’t think Anet even reads em anymore. I mean seriously look at the front page of that forum and confidently tell me that if you were a Dev you’d read that crap.
I sure wouldn’t. So many complainers about pointless stuff. Not that the general forum is better, but at least there’s a chance people see it here.
Actually one of the developers (I forget who) said that they read every post that goes through that board, and that some of them have actually ended up in the game, or caused the game to be changed. You really should think about it.
I’ll do that before I head off to bed then. Thanks!
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Coolest thing about them is how few there are in game, lets keep it that way.
Well said.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Maybe down the road. I keep hearing people talk about Kodan, Quaggen or Skrit as playable races.. really guys?
I’m all for Tengu and Hyleks. But these? Let’s keep them mysterious NPCs.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005

I reckon they should make Ameranth the new Nic.
Also, randomise the item(s) each player needs to get.
That way, it should help ease single zones becoming saturated and should help the population spread more evenly. Obviously, you aren’t going to get a single item for each single player, but it should help spread the population out significantly enough to bring life to other zones.
Not sure I’d like random items per player. Again the reason the tradable items were great in GW1 is I could give em away to people who got to it late, give em to guildies, etc. I wouldn’t want to have everyone find something different.
Interesting NPC suggestion though. Definitely not opposed.
Yeah. I remember reading about Collectors for the junk Idea like in the First Guild Wars in the Suggestion box. It’s about buried as it’s gonna get.
Yes. I would love to see a Nick and Yak NPC collector.
That’s a shame. Though GW1 had very different item acquisition methods as GW2 does. Armor was merchant only and collector only. I don’t think that’d work very well here where everything can just be bought on the TP.
But I’m glad you like the idea for an NPC to return that has this function.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Zones I don’t know, never had such a thing before, but dungeons for sure!
Zones would allow for vanquishing. They could cap the amount of times you can vanquish a specific zone to something like once a month for each zone unless you vanquish everything.
In GW1 this worked because zones were instanced and the number of foes was finite. In a persistent world where the mobs respawn 60s later, this would not work. Can’t make it “Just kill xx number of foes on Hard mode” because then you can just farm the same wurm or something for an hour.
I’d be all for it but I don’t see it happening any time soon.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I bought 4,000 green items on the market to salvage, basically double my profit.
I couldn’t do it, sold everything to the merchant.
Please give us an option to remove the “R U SHURE YOU WANT TO SALVAGE TRASH?!?!!” pop up.
It’s bad enough you are timegating Quartz, we get it, you hate crafting and wish never existed. At least give us the option to skip the warning box.
Because salvaging masterworks requiring confirmation, which was in the game since beta, has something to do with the time gated Quartz. Lol.
I agree they should remove the confirmation for these, but kitten calm down and stop with the conspiracy theories while you’re at it.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I like the time gating. Prevents people from getting everything day 1. People need to do less “GIMME GIMME NOW NOW!” and have some more patience. I support the time gate.
I’d love to see the items tradable so I can make sets for others, however.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
You know… this is actually a good idea!! If I were you I’d put it in the suggestion boards.
Think so? I was just seeing if other people remember this, or if newer people to the GW Franchise would like to see something like this in-game. I for one would love to see this return.
Though I can already see the counter arguments. “We already get living story updates bi-weekly we don’t need a weekly scavenger hunt to miss out on living story achievements” or the like.
I don’t know, I’d just love to see this come back. I know it took GW1 a while to get Nicholas put in the game, but even if it took a while to get something like this into GW2 I’d wait for it – definitely.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005

(edited by TehPwnerer.7215)
I’m all for the leader boards being removed. It serves no purpose, gives no rewards (in game or otherwise) and only serves to give a useless bragging right and causes a lot of arguments that go absolutely nowhere. In my opinion it was a huge mistake for ANet to even introduce it.
Agreed. Once it’s removed we can finally stop seeing all these HoM whine threads about how hard earned achievements should be removed because it’s messing with “leaderboards” that somehow some people think affect anything (they don’t, by the way).
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Wow you guys are something else. He just said yesterday on the livestream that they play tested the LFG tool and it’s coming along great and will 100% be in the game before the end of the year. Why not do some research before making a whine post?
You cannot possibly be happy that it may come at December 31. That’s waiting a maximum possibility of 5-6 months wait from now.
Did I say I was happy or unhappy about anything? I said they confirmed it will be here before the end of the year. Why even complain about something that is well on its way into the game?
But just in case you were wondering, I could care less about a LFG tool – I wouldn’t use it anyway. Daily guild runs > pugs every time. So really trust me when I say I could really care less about a LFG tool at all.
Not only that, but he said we’d have a detailed post on Thursday (LATER TODAY) about the coming months of the game. So I really don’t understand where all the complaining is coming from…
You guys complain when nothing is announced.. Then when it’s announced, you want it NOW. Here’s an idea, join a guild that you can run with and you’ll never pug again I assure you.

My daily “This thread is pointless and ArenaNet isn’t going to remove the HoM achievement points” post. See you guys tomorrow.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
43 characters, hard to recall off hand but I’d say 12+ 80s, a pile over 50, and few under 20.
What can I say? I love this game and like creating and leveling characters.
It’s hard for me to believe but I do now kind of have a main. He is the 4th of 5 Rangers I leveled to 80. An Asuran Ranger. 336 hours on him over the past 5 months. I’m glad I found my comfort zone main character wise in game. Leveling all the others was fun and insightful (and continuing).
Most of my character creation has followed a plan of wanting one of each profession per race, but sometimes when I hit a wall with one (or all) I make another on a whim. If they are not satisfying come about level 20 they get deleted and a new one springs up (hitting level 20 takes me a day, two at most).
I have explored all the various personal story paths I think with all three Orders. Hopefully I’m mistaken in that and another untraveled path or two are still awaiting discovery.
My acct has 2,807 hours over 10 months.
………
On topic. I have 12 characters. 3 level 80.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Aside from that, Guild Wars 1 players would have an unfair advantage, since we’d have minis from the Hall of Monuments that others wouldn’t have.
Yeah agreed. Not to mention we can pull out unlimited of them. I imagine the code is set up to not allow them to be forged as special minis as well, since we could just pull out like 1,000 tabby cats and get Set 1 minis from it.
I’m fine with them not counting towards the achievement.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I don’t care who you vote for, but if you’re voting for Kiel only because of waypoint reduction for a pitiful 4 weeks and no other reason, you’re doing it totally wrong and you should be ashamed.
At least those people would have a single reason to. I know tons of people who are going to vote for her just because she’s human.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I’m sure the first thing on ArenaNet’s mind is how to progress the game forward so players like you can flaunt and have bragging rights over being at higher level fractals. I’ve been in a 30+ group and it’s nothing but skipping every mob pack and skipping some fractals entirely. There’s nothing to brag about.
Oh and to the original question I have no idea.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Wow you guys are something else. He just said yesterday on the livestream that they play tested the LFG tool and it’s coming along great and will 100% be in the game before the end of the year. Why not do some research before making a whine post?
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I could care less about BLC keys price being reduced as I don’t buy them, but I am voting for Evon because of the Fall of Abaddon fractal.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
If people put as much effort into grinding achievement points as they did complaining, they’d probably have 500 by now
Agreed. This is ridiculous.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Let’s see…
- Primordus: Unknown location underground – presumably near the central transfer station.
- Destroyer minions – created from scratch
- Currently held at bay by the stone dwarves
- Jormag: Unknown location in the northern shiverpeaks.
- Corrupting male creatures who lust for power – Icebrood
- Holding at bay throughout the shiverpeaks
- Kralkatorrik: Unknown location in the crystal desert. Last known location: Glint’s lair.
- Branded minions – corrupted “mindstate” of creatures that fell in the wake of the dragon.
- Fighting off Branded theoughout The Scar.
- Bubbles: Unknown location under sea
- Minions: Sclerite, presumably corrupted sea creatures with tentacles
- Fighting creatures fleeing from Bubbles, no sign of dragon.
- Mordremoth: Unknown location beneath the Maguuma Wastes
- Minions unknown, speculation ties it to the Nightmare
- No immediate threat.
- Zhaitan: Dead in Orr
- Risen minions, no further corruption.
- No threat, the dragon’s dead.
So as of now, nobody wants to go on the offensive. If we strike a dragon in its own lair there could be dire consequences. What happens if we head to the Crystal Desert to kill Kralkatorrik and Jormag flies down from the north or Primordus erupts from beneath the earth to wreak havoc on the overworld? I think if I were a political advisor to any of the five nations I’d stay on the defensive.
Great post, someone has been reading up on the lore. Also that’s a very good point about just flat out attacking these dragons that pose no immediate threat to Kryta. I’m sure if the resources and manpower were there we’d go help the Crystal Desert and Cantha with their problems, but it’s probably just not possible especially after we all just fought to subdue the most recent threat Zhaitan.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
tldr; I’m impatient and I think that after we kill one dragon we should just go kill another one. No time to train more troops, replace lost technology, scout out the situation. How do you even know we know where the other dragons are?
Oh look you again.. making this sort of post again… It’s GW lore where and what the dragons are and what they are doing. Why do you even bother to post if you’re just gonna post constructively and say “tldr”? But then again, I guess I’m the stupid one for even replying to your trolling on every thread that pops up.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
You want another compelling and unforgettable fight as the one against Zhaitan? How about we give them the time it takes to build awesome content instead of rushing it and releasing it half-baked?
Also just because there are no dragons it doesn’t mean it’s filler content.
I agree. Give them time to create a better experience than what Zhaitan was.
Think about this:
We just spent too much resources on the Orr Invasion. We can’t just pack up and just leave to fight another fight. The soldiers need to recover, they need to see their family and friends back home. They need to take a rest while Pact researchers build up new technology, Durmand Priory research on better ways to defeat the dragons and killing remnants that still plague Orr.
If we go on the offensive too early, the dragons will strike back while we are not prepared defensively. In Edge of Destiny, Eir Stegalkin fought the Dragonspawn but they failed. As a result, Hoelbrak was in turmoil. The pact can’t risk a rushed war while the Dragons don’t care.
This is a good way to explain the in-game “calm” that we’re currently experiencing after Zhaitan’s defeat.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Primordus is the reason we have Destroyers all over the place.
Are we playing the same game? GW1 had destroyers all over the place. GW2 has Destroyers all over a volcano in Mt Maelstrom for 15 minutes a day.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
Things like this have been happening forever. I was threatened with being kicked if I did not give a gold to each of the other party members (all in the same guild) as a fee for their services. I left instead. I wish they had a system where you could vote on a players reputation so others could see who to avoid.
Now THAT is something that can get players banned. Next time you see that, screen shot it and send it to their support – don’t even waste time using the in-game report feature. Send it directly to them with Screenshots and they WILL be dealt with I assure you.
On subject, I don’t run into these problems because I don’t pug. If I’m in a guild group that ever requires 1 slot or something because it’s late and night, we never kick a person for a guildy just because a guildy logs on. That’s ridiculous.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
No. People need to stop trying to make legendaries easy to get. Stahp
Luck =/= skill. There’s nothing challenging about getting a precursor. And yes, I’ve gotten one. Also I’m not sure how making precursors soulbound has anything to do with everything else it takes to actually get a legendary.

I want my black wings. Give me 1 black wing. I don’t want a flower. I don’t want a dream catcher. I want something bad-kitten .
Let me guess. You wear T3 Cultural Armor and wield Twilight and the “Golden” title. I’m sure they’ll make some sort of black, sparkly wing skin in the future that’ll cost your commander ability, 1,000g, and one of each gift.
Don’t worry. It’s coming in the next patch.
On topic, I like the back skins they’ve added recently. The flower is cool, the wings are neat (sort of), and the catcher skins have very cool effects.
