skyrocketing gold to gems price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TexZero.7910

I know of a few people are actively not purchasing gems currently due to being dissatisfied, but the same people still want the new shiny so they are using gold instead of $.

Now then if this is happening on a wide enough scale i can totally see the price of gold → Gem being astronomically higher than normal.

MMR is dead. Not used for match making anymore.

no, YOU did not read the blog.

As we’ve mentioned previously, Ranked matchmaking in PvP during season two will now be based primarily on your current division placement and a predetermined “pip range” that extends from that spot. We’ll search for other players that fall within your pip range (which can extend outside of your division depending on where you’re currently placed) and pair you up with teammates who have a similar skill level to your own. We’ll then find you opponents within that same pip range and pair them against you, regardless of their skill level.

Show me once where MMR is even remotely brought up ? from SAUCE – https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pvp-league-season-two-changes/

They’ve abandoned MMR as a matchmaking tool and are using the pip and league system.

I like comments about “git gud” or “L2P” or “you’re just a bad player”. Reminds me of why I don’t got to the HOT maps: all of the caustic players congragate there.

How would you know they where they congregate if you aren’t there ?

On a side note, the only thing more caustic than people, are people who are quick to condemn others.

The comments about getting good, while done poorly do emphasize the strong selling point that was harder PvE. Some people will struggle to adapt to that, and for the most part it is a matter of getting better (gear, trait synergy, play habbits) for others its a matter of learning the environments and mobs attacks etc….

Getting good, or rather being told to improve isn’t a bad thing.

Which is why in the world championship finals that just happened, both teams brought double Revenant.

I’ve already created astralaria and still had 87 airship oils left over, and over two days of just killing gerent and opening chest in that area im back up to 67.

Maybe it’s just me, but i dont find ley line sparks hard to come by.

Do you mean ley line sparks or crystals? I ask because you are comparing them to airship parts. Comparing crystals to airship parts would make sense. Comparing sparks to airship parts doesn’t really make sense.

Comparing both

I have virtually 0 airshiparts (which should be changed to allow people to buy crowbars) , and nearly 4k crystal’s (which do allow you to buy chalk acid).

Point is after creating astralaria, i’ve not gone back to VB and only done DS once since and have more Airship Oil. However in roughly 2 hours of play i’ve managed to acquire 67 Sparks….That’s not as bad as the hyperbole here is making it out to be.

I couldn’t get past the Challenge of Strength in City of Hope. Tried grouping with friends and group finder, but every attempt was a wipe. On top of that, most events in the new areas ended in wiping. Has anything changed since? Better survivability builds?

You can do it with either better dps or survivability. All builds are viable for that mission, if you need help feel free to message.

Except sustain builds, as you cannot heal from any source.

Sustain builds can still do damage.

Problem with sustain builds is that they take longer to kill enemies. The way that fight is designed, you really want to kill the spawned mobs as fast as possible so you wont have to dodge those whirlpools so much. Longer it takes to fight = more whirlpools will appear = more chance some will appear under you.

If the player has the skill to avoid the whirlpools, it doesn’t matter how long the fight takes because the player has the endurance or will to continue and win. Not all fights need to be completed by racing against a self made clock. Some people are happy with longer fights, they can fully experience the event mechanics without it being cut short.

Look, i’m not saying they don’t deal damage. I’m saying it’s not viable to run a build based around self sustain in an area where you cannot heal. I think that’s self explanatory, no ?

Err, no. It can be even more mobile as many engie skills used are ranged. It can also be extremely useful dealing with the condi trash mob at vale guardian. It does have some of most complex skill rotations available though.

So which kit are you dropping to take (SS/RB) and why does this not equal a DPS loss ?

They have to invest more in to be as mobile as the others who have it on weapon skills and typically have an optional utility slot, which engie doesn’t with taking a significant hit to DPS.

Raid Timers lazy way to increase diffuclty

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Timers are a double edged sword.

We need them to improve, because there’s no proper tools in game to help see where you are failing. We need them to keep the fights from being too drawn out.

However, we also need slightly better mechanics to prevent the facetank it till it dies, and the DPS it till its dead approach. Additionally having a more natural enrage, platform dying etc is always cool.

Basically unless we have the right tools in place, raids will always be primitive in design.

On Difficulty
With Salvation Pass you should see comparable difficulty with the bosses to Spirit Vale. Things like No Updraft Gorseval weren’t really possible the first week when players learned the encounter. We definitely don’t want to make the encounters so challenging that things like that are never possible since all it does is make raids less accessible to others. It’s fun to be able to master them and get better and do things like this.

On Achievements
There aren’t any “avoid getting hit by X and then kill the boss” style achievements in Salvation Pass. They are a lot more involved and will change up how you approach the encounter.

On Rewards
Andy jumped in here somewhere a few weeks back (I can’t find the original post) but he hinted that duplicate minis are going to have value with the second raid release so make sure you hold on to them.

Other than that, we’re making improvements to show ascended gear is awarded. You’ll have a lot more choice instead of getting something you can’t use.

On LFG
We’re not happy with the state of this either. Colin actually mentioned some stuff about this on Reddit.

Love the short term problem solving – wish it was easier for us to to do a quick short term fix. (sadly nothing with LFG is easy or quick)

I did want to quickly point out the team is aware of the recent discussions around things that aren’t working (or missing) from LFG and have it included in the list of “resolving outstanding issues” that is our goal for the spring update in April.

Not entirely sure what will actually make it yet LFG wise since it’s all in development – we’ll give more details once we’re sure.

Jokes aside though, that seems like your opinion and not that of others, there has been greater public outcry for new fractals and instabilities rather than fixing every minor exploit inside them.

I’ve read dozens of threads here and on Reddit where people have cried out for ages for exploits to be fixed rapidly, and that sentiment has been echoed in-game to me by literally hundreds of players.

Also, just so we’re clear, fixing an exploit and moving it through QA ASAP isn’t going to push back new Fractals any. You’re not going to lose out on new Fractals this year because they decided to fix an exploit two months earlier than they otherwise might’ve.

My point wasn’t the quantity in which you read, it was the way you stated that it was a higher priority from the player base. There’s also this handy thing humans do called selective bias. You could be drawn more into reading about exploits, because you are more involved in reporting them and getting status updates, than acknowledging the rather large outcry even if its not as loud for new content.

So if you got offended by that, sorry.

How about you craft it like the rest of us who actually have spent this amount? It’s a legendary, it should be hard to get or cost you for creating it.
I don’t want a kitten ton of people running around with the new legendaries simply because they can’t spend the money for it. It should be hard. Otherwise it will simply be like all other legendaries in the game that everyone have.

Again as someone whose made one already. Try being a bit more objective.
The same i got mine so everyone else should be bent over crowed rearing its head again.

AG’s have a very finite supply, with a limitless demand at the current time. They need desperately to increase the ways to acquire them so that we don’t end up in the Silver Doubloon/Charged Loadstone situation again.

I’ve said my piece on this, and no i don’t believe just fixing the market for dust will solve the issue. I’m firmly on the side of making them tied into dungeons or becoming map rewards.

I saved my gold for new legendaries and I’ve been waiting for it. So yes, I spent the amount needed to get the items. It did cost me quite a bit to craft my Astralaria. I didn’t buy the items straight from the start like a lot of people did. I did it when the prices were high and I’d do it again. I intend to do it again for my next legendary as well and I’m still not complaining about the prices.

Stop complaining, It’s only gold. Gold can be farmed. If you don’t want to pay for it, then don’t, use an ascended weapon instead or exotic for that matter while you slowly get the mats needed.

Nobody is forcing you to buy the stones. The prices will go down if people stop buying them, it’s that simple.

I’ve already gotten 28 gemstones for my next legendary when being totally drained of materials. It’s easy to get more, It just takes a little time if you don’t want to buy them straight off.

Congrats ?

I too have completed Astralaria and the requirements for AG are absurd.

Stop complaining though as you still have that lovely grind to get there instead of it actually being legendary it’s still the same gold grind as the previous legendaries.

No one is forcing you to make anything, so we may as well all play the game naked and just discard all our gold anyway right ?

The prices will continue to go up as yet again you missed out on the day in economics where they covered items with a finite supply and infinite demand…..But it’s okay ignore the problem because as i’ve already stated.

“You got yours, so everyone else better suffer like you”

It’s that sorta mentality that prevents progress from actually being made and the game from being fun for everyone and not the minority that hoard gold like skirtts hoard junk.

I see your problem here. You are equating an entire specialization to a profession.
Mesmer DPS is just fine if not playing stack wars and actually are allowed to setup burst rotations.

Chrono (PvE meta) sacrifices its burst for group utility and self sustain.

I fail to see how this is an issue, unless you somehow want Chronomancers to somehow tank and deal DPS on par with everyone else while buffing everyone else with 50%skill action and 33% skill recharge rate ?

I see your problem here. You assume that I am equating an entire specialization to a profession erroneously. I merely say chrono instead of mesmer because the expectation of taking the chrono trait line for high end group pve is a no brainer. This is due to the issue with the core mesmer being trash in said environment ever since reflects stopped being a thing. The same is the case for the herald versus revenant…the expectation is that you will trait herald for high end pve for FoN and other facets. Its no point really in not referring to the e-specs as the entire profession..even though the e-spec is just one trait line.

Mesmer dps has never been “fine” in high end pve. Shatter dps is just what you said, burst dps…that’s for pvp/wvw. I don’t think either core mes or chrono has an issue in pvp/wvw.

I do have an issue with any design that makes a profession “sacrifice” having decent sustained dps to be a support bot….at least in this game. The whole notion of needing to “sacrifice” dps goes out of the window when you look at other professions like guards with that same type of 50% skill action buff…just lesser up time….with much higher dps in addtion to all of their other offerings like perma prot, frequent aegis application, etc. Compared with warriors and banners, decent group fury up time, group might stacks, and of course their dps level. I’m sure there are other examples as well, but the issue I see is that there does not need to be a “sacrifice” if they spread out group utility AND dps. That’s what the original design of the game was…but they are edging more and more towards trinity and roles.

See the problem here is you’re trying to make every class ubiquitous in nature and that just doesn’t work. Every class has it’s tradeoffs. Memser’s is being balance around large packets of damage, not sustained Damage. That the entire reason they even have shattering to begin with. Now maybe the next e-spec will fix that, who knows. But right now not only are you comparing apples to oranges (tank to dps) you’re also trying to compare different ways of dealing damage sustained to burst and it just doesn’t work.

I can almost unequivocally guarantee that if a chrono was running chrono-shatter and not this tank stuff their DPS would be on par with most other classes +/- 8%

Chrono and Herald are group support though, so i fail to see what your complaint is unless its numerical, in which case it needs more numbers than the words you’re using.

As is there’s quite a few classes that fill the role of offensive support. Chrono/Druid/Herald/Warrior and i don’t think your taking any of these for their amazing individual DPS. If you are then i have to question what your metrics are for good individual DPS is.

The only two professions that are not group support are thief and necro. Every other profession offers significant boon/buff support to parties. The distinction that this is about is when the support functions far outweigh and overshadow the dps contribution. That’s when the term support bot starts to apply.

Of course the complaint is numerical…that’s obvious. This is a stat driven game…like most mmo type games. Effectiveness is going to depend on numbers to a large degree. This game offers choices on what professions to bring, and that is affected by what the different professions offer and how efficiently they offer these things. That’s what the meta is all about. Push one profession too far down a specific path…away from the dps centric focus of the game…and it falls out of the meta unless it offers something seriously irreplaceable. We just witnessed what happens when a profession offers something that is that irreplaceable…it gets a big fat nerf to make it not be mandatory. My complaint is about this type of scenario.

I don’t think any profession should be relegated to trash level dps in this type of game. One of the reasons I bought GW2, in the first place, was to escape the role casting of previous games. Tanks, healers, dps, and the forced expectations of any hybrid type profession from being relegated to a forced role such as a healer/support bot. This game’s design allowed a departure from that…since everyone was able to be self sufficient in their own survival and offer group support in some way. Its starting to slip away from that…into forced roles and hybrid professions being obligated to fill a specified role. We’re already seeing that with the druid…who wants a regular ranger when you can have a druid? Druid gives everything you would want from a core ranger + healing + more dps buffs for the party. Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving druid. I have been playing one a lot since the chrono and herald nerfs. I don’t mind the healing aspect either. I’m just noticing and I am wary of the direction the game is heading…when professions are starting to get labeled as support or healing…and expected to have low dps in this dps-centric design. I’m not looking forward to an eventual wow clone….when you routinely see groups looking for a tank, healer, and dps.

I see your problem here. You are equating an entire specialization to a profession.

Not sure you can put engineer in high mobility and dps at the same time.

Engie has to sacrifice their dps for mobility, unlike the other 3.

Depends on what you call mobility.
Engineer has a lot of leaps out of combat, a lot less in combat, but same goes for elementalist

Well i don’t consider out of combat mobility in this case.

In combat mobility engie has the least of what you listed unless they invest heavily in it.

I don’t see the problem. The new legendary’s are completely in line with the price of the old legendary’s. If they somehow reduce the price of gemstones then they will need to raise the price of something else to compensate for the lost cost.

What item would you suggest reducing the drop rate of to compensate? Or do you just want stuff for cheaper than the people willing to actually work for their items?

Except they aren’t in line with the other legendaries as there’s only 1 method of acquisition. The cost being relative to something with multi means of acquisition is a bad design choice.

Granted as stated i’ve completed Astralaria, and what i would change is how horribly backloaded the cost of making the new set of legendaries is. The cost could be better spread out and not require an item that has such a finite market. Having the cost almost entirely dependent on Amalgamated Gemstones was a mistake, not having multiple ways to acquire amalgamated gemstones was an even bigger mistake.

AG’s need to be map rewards, much like any other item used in legendary crafting or be rewards for completing dungeons. You can argue all you want about dungeons, the end result was they only wanted to remove the liquid gold, adding an item to the end of dungeons or purchasable with dungeon tokens retains the only value dungeons has which is to be used to create Legendaries.

Let's talk about Amalgamated Gemstones.

That s how economics work since 5000 years.

The Empire State Building : 1930 -> 41 M. $, 2016 u would need 636 M. $ to build it today.

And the legendarys are the only real high Goldsink for ANET since the start of the game.

1 gold in game = 1g in game

If you haven’t noticed the problem with what your stating…you basing the dollar value which has long been weighted against the worth of gold to something that has no defined weight or value.

Hence your analogy is bunk.

What is a high DPS and high mobility class?

Warrior, ele, thief, engineer

Not sure you can put engineer in high mobility and dps at the same time.

Engie has to sacrifice their dps for mobility, unlike the other 3.

Since the start of this game players always come here to complain about the cost of the legendarys.

And every time a little song came up in my mind:

You think the new legendarys are expensive? Forget it.

U need right now 2250 Orbs @ 35 S, for the “old” ones u needed 2000 T6 @ 60S that time.
My first was the Hunter and the final cost with the pre were about 2800 Gold.

2800 Gold in 2014 were like 7000 Gold right now.

And why u sure that the other new legendarys need also AG?

Perhaps they need 10000 Silver ore to craft something similar. Or they need 5000 T5 material for example.
We still don t know what JS will have ready for us.

Oh right the i got mine, so your should be as expensive….

So then since i crafted 4 legendaries pre-HOT (Dreamer, Sunrise, Moot, and Quip) when they all cost around 2900-3000 gold of materials to craft should that mean every legendary going forward should be based on that gold standard because for a group of people complaining about inflated economies you’re really quick to use the inflated standard as proof of value.

Here’s a hint…That’s not how economics works.

Do the story on all alts. That alone gives you ~30 ore each time.

Do DS pod farming immediately after you get your chest. Since they buffed pods to give between 1-10 ore per its stupidly easy to rack up around 40 or so a run.

33% faster skill recharge is still really good for any group….

Granted they did get the hit with the sledge hammer Anet named “Balance” and still have room for minor buffs to make up for it like changing cooldowns on wells, or increasing the effectiveness of traits.
