You get an icon above your head
You get a text message in your chat + on the middle of your screen
You get a voice notification when you get the poison

Pretty sure that’s enough

The icon is kinda buggy. UI elements and squad markers/commander tag can overwrite it for some reason.

I play with sounds on and have yet to hear the voice notification, which is kinda what im asking for when i say a unique sound. Perhaps you’re confusing it for the targeted sound ?

Total time working on raid:
Slothasaur: 2.5 hours
Bandit Trio: 2 hours
Matthias: 5 hours
Total time: 9.5 hours

Not sure how many attempts that breaks down to.

I can rough guess based on timers, assuming little to no wasted time

Reruns of festivals that were boring the first time they reran them? Polish? Fractals? Where are the new ones?

Well, to that I say:

How can you say it has been supported “just fine” when HoT launched with a pathetically, insultingly small amount of accessible content and nothing has been added since.

In my book, that’s the exact opposite of supporting something “just fine”.

But you wanted content that was casual…Aren’t those festivals exactly what you were asking for ?

I did? They are? I don’t think I did and they most definitely aren’t.

How about that shatter rework ?

Not significant, not new.

How about those fractal bug fixes and reward updates ?

Not new content.

How about that bonus to map completion now including zones like Southsun, which literally is just a walk on the beach ?

Not new content.

How about that nice casual addition of Gliding in Tyria ?

Not new content.

How about them nice casual additions to map rewards for just playing your event trains out ?

Not new content.

No……okay. I see we like only specific updates to PvE, everything else can be omitted.

Maybe you should read my complaint. (“HoT launched with a pathetically, insultingly small amount of accessible content and nothing has been added since.”)

Maybe you should read what i wrote, PvE has been supported just fine.
Also, your complaint about content is pretty laughable considering just how much content HoT shipped with. It’s literally on par with all of season 2.

And guns don’t kill people. People do. But the gun helps.

Making some 5 word statement for a complex issue that can fit on the back of a bumper sticker in an attempt to drown out discussion IS distorting the issue.

Yes, people are toxic, but it’s usually for some reason or another and repeatedly failing an event, because random strangers won’t do a relatively simple act to prevent failure is a pretty good reason to get angry.

Content like WBT that is too simplistic too fail or other content where a small group of people can take on the more important roles and carry the rest has a much better atmosphere than what I find in most HoT meta maps.

Design of the game to include things like personal instances of resource nodes and a monster death not just rewarding the first player who tagged it goes a long way in creating a friendly game atmosphere, because it removes elements that lead to player conflict and thus, contributing to people being toxic.

I wasn’t around at the time to play Marionette, but Queen’s Gauntlet was content that pitted players against single monsters in a contest, not an open world event that fails repeatedly if the majority of people are too busy eating paste to fire CC at a break bar.

Referencing that content is also distorting the issue.

Oh so here’s your core problem. You actually want content that is too easy to fail ?
That’s what im getting from this, and frankly that is all of HoT. Those base maps without the inclusion of the instanced content, yeah those. It’s almost identical to core tyria only its called magus falls.

If you personally aren’t up for the challenge of getting your face kicked in until you learn not to cool, but calling for that to be removed because you don’t like it is nothing more than an act of selfishness.

Countless updates and fixes to those core problems, and casual content like festivals which are literally just free gold for logging in. The aforementioned Shatter Rework which is literally just another loot pinata for people to play with.

It’s like you guys are selectively ignoring the updates that have been made to the game outside of the two raid updates.

I mean, you don’t have to like the updates but to say it’s lacking support is a pretty brazen lie. It’s there, it hasn’t been diminished in any capacity. But don’t take my word for it there’s an entire subforum with updates for you to read through.

4 new maps, 16 story chapters, a metric ton of adventures….. And yet people complain about 2 raid wings being created by a team of 5 people.

I guess we are just going to be selective about content from here on out ?

Which Anet itself conceded was light for a $60 expansion and sold it off the merits of it laying down the systems for future content releases.

It’s not just 2 raid wings being created by a team of 5 people.

It’s the addition of a new game mode to support when you can’t support the ones you already have had in existence for years.

The lack of that support, mind you, being excused, because of a lack of free developers to work on everything while in the same breath stating developers being allocated to support raiding won’t influence the development of other aspects of the game.

PvE has been supported just fine.

WvW was a dying mode before HoT even was a thought process, nothing changed.

PvP is thriving, albeit with a few issues but its overall player participation is higher.

So what’s this about unsupported modes ?

WvW…..right we all know it’s literally the red headed stepchild of the dev team, one day it will see meaningful updates.

As is raids have done just fine with a small team as far as support so your entire claim is pretty baseless.

No one is excluded from raiding unless they themselves choose to.

I’ve actually run across a large population of players who are removed from Raid groups because they lack either gear, voice client, or have not run the raid before and are therefore immediately kicked.

Again, that’s on the player who is attempting to join a group they are not suited for.

Also asking for a simple answer when you put your own opinion into things to stir the pot, probably wont get you a decent answer.

Short and sweet of it is, everything has a meta. No the meta is not the only way of completing the content. However, if all you look to do is pug, expect to run a meta build of some variety as people are going to be stricter than if you had formed your own group and composition.

Not at all. We all know you have to build a viable group and 10 healers isn’t going to cut it… Don’t dodge the issue. Raids have been very successful with “snowflake” builds as you put it. Meta is NOT the only way to get something done.

Who was dodging the issue here ?

You said it took those meta players to carry for their bad skills. I merely pointed out several ends of the spectrum both of which have been successful.

This means it’s not a build issue, its a player issue. Which is exactly what i said.

I get that people want to finish things ASAP. However why would i make a level 80 character in full ascended with a build + stats, That i don’t even like just so i can do a raid once in a while. :/

It’s just too much trouble for someone with not much time.

You don’t have too, it’s purely optional.

However, don’t expect 9 other people to be willing to work with you, if you want to run whatever special snowflake build instead of working with them to complete the encounter.

The only reason for these requirements on meta groups with ascended armor is such bad play skills you rely on min/maxing on people to carry you through the game. Don’t be rude and derogatory to a build you don’t know and can’t understand because it’s not explained on meta sites. It may be great it may be bad, its the way some of us choose to play.

The problem here is actually communication. Everyone needs to be more clear on what they are looking for and people also need to be aware of the groups they are joining.

Right, i forgot it took 5 bad players to no updraft Gorse.

I guess that 10 man all healing ele run must have been the most unskilled group of players as well then by this logic ?

It’s not a build, it’s not communication. It’s the person in between the chair and the keyboard who is unwilling to adapt, improve or get better.

This week its raids, because for them its unobtainable, impossible, unlikely etc…. whatever excuse that they can form to come up with the actual reason they wont raid.

Apparently this “Dedication” to raid content is super bad, ignoring the fact that the Raid team is 5 devs out of roughly 280. Now then, 5 devs managed to put together and help maintain raids….Let that sink in. If this is what 5 of them can do, i cannot understand what is keeping the others at bay outside of the 70 who are assigned to xpac 2. Yes how dare HoT fail at sales cause “lots” of hardcore players play it often.

…your reality check will be no players willing to do raids cause they left for other games.

4 super casual meta event maps, and 18 story chapters sure is on par with 2 raid wings and 2 PvP seasons.

Back to the topic now, take your rant over to the we hate raids thread where you can find solace of like minded people who are to stubborn to form a group to “PHIW”.

It’s a task and a half getting the proper balance, to match the release cycles for content. While it would be nice to see them being more frequent, the issue arises that frequent changes are often knee-jerk reactions. See Coalessence of Ruin and Scorched Earth for recent examples.

Regarding the Expansion 2

I think Anet should consider making raids more(easily) available to a wider selection of the player base.

The way things stand if you aren’t in a certain circle of players you don’t get into raid parties, nor do you get into raid parties that ever make it past Vale Guardian. Kind of sick of being locked out of such an important addition to this game because I am not in a certain group of players.

ANET either poop or get off the pot. Raids are supposed to be playable by everybody not just SOME of the people playing this game. I paid for Core Tyria, I paid for Heart of Thorns, I deserve to be able to play the game as you present it not be dis-included in part of it because I don’t know certain people.

Personal problem not an Anet problem.
Take some initiative and form a group, or join a group.

Regarding the Expansion 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TexZero.7910

I personally don’t care about that balancing. It’s more that the direction of the game is completely geared towards the hardcore players. Check the latest update. It’s only a raid, nothing for those people that will never be able to do raids as raids are not made for casuals…

I’m going to presume that any new expansion will only add more content for the hard core people, and hardly anything for the rest of the player base.

Yeah how dare those raiders get 2 pieces of content when the previous 50 were geared at casual players!

…This has been your reality check, you can come back now.

But GW2 isn’t that game and adding raids is not only contrary to why people like me played it to begin with, but adds to the problem of trying to be everything for everyone while effectively being nothing for no one.

Burden of proof not met.

Please prove how adding content that brings about and fosters new communities is contrary to any aspect of 1) Play how you want 2) Social Gameplay 3) Being for no one (because apparently people who play it are no one).

IMO what you’re saying is coming from the vantage of someone who either had a bad experience likely due to pugging, poor leadership or just a flat out inability to accept that not every piece of content has to cater to your likes. I feel that at the core the raids added a much needed element of teamplay that had been missing as most content had become trivial to say the least.

Now then, that doesn’t mean that every addition to the game needs to be a raid. In fact i’d be perfectly fine if after wing 2&3 we didn’t see another raid for a few months at all. To allow for people to work their way upto raiding.

Things like story/dungeon/fractals all need a looking at before Raid 2 comes out.

Even if you do see this as an issue there’s plenty of ways to stop it from happening from just a simple design standpoint, like removing swamp from the Hard Mode Rotation of Fractal maps or having all Hard Mode Fractals on a set daily rotation, that you can only do once per day for unique daily loot.

Why no condi reduction stat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TexZero.7910

Also, whether or not Vitality is a good defense (and better/worse than mitigation) is debatable.

DGraves, you’ve said it isn’t. I think it is at least on par. At this we’re going to have to agree to disagree… because from my perspective Vitality = extra time alive (and the same can be said for mitigation)… If other more savvy people wish to try, I hope they do.

~EW

This is sums up the arguments made.

Graves wants to only look at one aspect of the equation, and not the whole picture.
When pointed out that vitality which not true damage mitigation does increase your durability against conditions he reverts back to, vitality isn’t a counter.

The same little back and forth can be made of any argument of any damage. The only thing that is a true direct counter to any damage is to not take damage.

Other than that use the tools provided to you to reduce incoming damage which will allow you to survive (counterplay) and there is plenty of it when it comes to conditions.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Actually you’ve proven my point. If you have 20k and i have 19k and there’s 20k damage stacked presuming you do nothing you die. Vitally doesn’t mitigate anything.

Sigh okay….

So having the same ticking damage and more HP means nothing ?

Sir, you do understand what EHP means right ?
You do understand that in this game, healing = EHP, Boons = EHP, and Cleansing = EHP.

Lets just ignore for a second the debate of “condi duration”

Which one gives you more EHP

1) 3k health / 3k Toughness
2) 3k health / 3k Toughness / Protection
3) 3k health / 3k Toughness / Protection / Regen

So, do you really want to argue that having a source of +HP doesn’t contribute to EHP ?

If so….i have no words. As healing = Health which is the entire premise of EHP.

Now then, back to condi’s

If you have the same as above replace “Toughness” with Vitality and replace Prot with Resistance.

Why no condi reduction stat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TexZero.7910

TexZero.7910

EHP is only things that effect normal damage ( damage that flows through its formulas uninterrupted ). Damage mitigation (blocking/premature termination) is not part of EHP.

If class choice is literally the primier source of mitigation. Why be anything but a warrior? Why even have a linear stat like vitality to begin with?

Regardless this is all false. Reducing damage taken is not equivalent to being able to take more damage. There is no actual armor against condition damage. Reducing the duration is the damage per tick. Reducing the percentage of health loss is not reducing the damage per tick.

A 20% defense against burning is not equal to surviving a burn for 20% longer.

Well, no really ?

Who would have guessed that %’s dont work that way.

You’re looking at this the wrong way let me just math this simply for you

If you have 20k hp and I have 19K hp, you have 20k worth of ticking condi damage on you and refuse to heal, cleanse, or use resistance while i have the same 20k ticking damage but cleanse all of it, who lives more ?

Its all a part of EHP calculations.

Unless you want to argue that you don’t take prot and weakness into EHP calculations in which case we are done here as you are doing vacuum math.

Fractal Hard Mode….More rewards, less choice.

You do 3x random islands, with unique and random instabilities per level selected and 1 Boss fractal with again unique and random instabilities per level.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

But effective hitpoints is the counter.

You’re just looking at EHP from the very narrow side of vitality only.

EHP is more than just that, its healing, cleansing, hp, toughness (useless in this case), and resistance (only relevant boon in this case).

- Ghostly Prison will encase a member but have 0 Hp meaning special action and attacking it do nothing, effectively killing the party member (I think this one happens when the Prison is spawned in a location that is already taking damage, not 100%)

- Ghostly Prison will encase target user, and leave the special interact icon on the screen while the user is already free from the mechanic. This forces the user to relog, as they cannot use special interact after this occurs.

Our raid group encountered a bug with Gorseval that was listed as fixed from this patch https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-December-15-2015/first#post5855946

Video is posted below showcasing our druid being targeted out and encased in mid air

This happened twice during the raid with one of the times having no ground indicator at all.

At least with the old system buying influence was purely optional. With the new system, gold is the only way to get those upgrades. Mats = gold

While you are not wrong, the old system had it’s fair share of cons. Granted a lot of that could have been solved with proper cross guild chat, an alliance system (ala GW1) and some fine tuning to representation/roster status’. We have to live with what we have now another system with a few cons, but ultimately more pros.

Either way, it’s out of everyone’s hands now. Time to wait and see what the next major quarterly update does for Halls/Scribing etc…
