Beastmasters don’t tank, and neither do Phantasm mesmers.

Excuse me, what game are you playing?

I have a build that heals 1k HP per second for 10 seconds, and it’s on a 25 second cooldown, and when the 10 seconds ends, that means it’s on a 15 second cooldown. That’s a 10k heal, on a 15 second cooldown, while I’m practically invincible while using it with nearly 3.3k Armor for a condition based Ranger that still has nearly 1500 Condition damage.

Mesmers having invulnerability, invisibility, reflection, and alot of mobility.

They are both tanky, I use them for tanking. Guardian tanks are not as strong as Phant Mesmers or BM Rangers.

I don’t like that everyone wants Necro to be so mobile. I want us to be strong and standing firm. Seems like Gibbly wants us to become Mesmers.

Still, I am confident about where Necro will be.

Gibbly knows what tools work in the end. If we don’t get avoidance and instead become sheer tanks, we’ll always be in the binary of either underpowered and unable to tank teams, or overpowered and able to tank teams which means we’ll be eating people 1v1 and people will cry for nerfs.

That logic is fallible, because with a “blink” style utility will make us either like Elementalists, being generic DPS mobility tanks, or Mesmers, being mobility DPS tanks. Either way, people will be unhappy. We have enough mobility based classes in this game, we have NO sustained tanks. At the moment if people are fine with Phantasmals and Beastmasters existing, then I don’t see how we can’t be a strong stand-up fighter.

Also, I dislike how everyone still worships Gibbly. I see no reason why everyone follows every bit of his word.

I’m sorry but I can barely understand your wording here, are you honestly explaining to me that you think PvP is the reason why your gamemode, which has the largest staff and receives the most updates, is bad?

Your English is honestly so atrocious that I feel like I need to print this out and rub a dictionary on it as though cleansing an unholy sin. Agony is a dumb and uninteresting mechanic. Who cares if it one hit kills you? How does that make it challenging? There is a difference between a skillcap and difficulty. I wouldn’t even call it difficulty, mostly just have a semi-competent team back you up.

Honestly it is such people like you that give PvE players a stereotypical bad name of nonsense spreaders. I don’t know a single person that thinks PvE receives less attention than PvP except you.

I lost interest in fractals after level 20, because all you’re doing is replaying the same thing but slightly harder. Atleast in PvP I’m fighting skillful people with working intelligence, on a team that also has working intelligence. As far as I’m concerned doing Fractals is nothing more than playing a single Pacman level to get all the coins you can in order to buy more gear to do the same thing over again.

It isn’t a projectile. It cannot be reflected. It goes through Projectile shields.

Making it a projectile would be nerfing it.

It was a rumor a couple weeks ago the Devs would nerf AoE across the board due to mass PvP complaints. Which I can actually see as plausible. Next month they state they’ll start addressing more balance issues. I’m merely worried about our safety.

PvE and www players are seriously fed up from suggestions that doesn t take in account the most played parts of the game….and can really ruin an already ridicously unbalance situation.

So At least make an effort to think “this game is not only pvp…pvp is the least played game mode….”

Because for how is the game now would have more sense to halve warrior damage while doubling ele’s and reverting all nerfs it ever seen.

PvE needs MORE attention than PvP……or this game will completely die withhis e-sport dream.

Aren’t you high and mighty? Well allow me to be elitist myself for a moment with facts that happen to apply to most MMOs, including GW2.

Most PvP players are superior to PvE/WvW players as there is a higher skillcap. Most PvE players do not actually know how to use their own class to it’s fullest effectiveness. Many PvE Rangers/Elementalists/Thieves whine about how their classes are underpowered, when I have seen PvP players play high level Fractals and still manage to avoid all of the things PvE players complain about, such as keeping pets alive. Most of the issues with your classes in PvE are l2p issues. PvE does not require precision builds/skill, it is significantly easier outside of level 40+ fractals, which are also in the minority.

Also, to declare that PvE needs more attention when it already gets 80% of the attention is nothing short of pure bias.

Oh, and yes, I play PvE myself too, it’s how I’m forced to make my money since I don’t make anything from PvP aside from selling dyes I randomly acquire or teaching PvE players how to move while attacking.

  • Staff Ele needs a buff. D/D Damage should be toned down, but be made more sustained. Scepter needs a slight buff, and Focus could use a slight buff.
  • P/P, S/P, and P/D Thieves need a buff, Heartseeker must be removed as a leap finisher, Condition cleansing in Stealth should be toned down, healing in stealth should be toned down.
  • Warrior needs buffs in general.
  • Necromancer needs buffs in general/Fixes.
  • Guardian is fine.
  • Scepter Mesmer needs a buff, Phantasmal duelist damage needs to be nerfed, Phantasmal duelist should not combo finish, Blurred Frenzy needs to be nerfed, Mind wrack needs to be nerfed.
  • HGH Engineer needs a nerf, Turrets need a buff, self-ressing needs to be removed.
  • Ranger Longbow needs a buff, pets need a nerf, Downstate 3 needs to be nerfed, Underwater capability needs to be nerfed, Troll Ungent needs to be nerfed, Spirit Elite needs to be nerfed (Self ressing removed), Pet commands need to be restricted in down state.

I think the best fix would be visible enemy cast bars, preferably under nameplates.

I main Necromancer, my cast bar would be so large you wouldn’t be able to see anything else.

I’d prefer it if they didn’t have the strongest burst in the game on a 10 second cooldown along with invulnerability, I’d also prefer if Phantasmal Duelist didn’t do such nonsensical damage, each shot being a projectile finisher.

But hey, Arenanet is too busy breaking Necromancer with tooltip fixes.

Hi, i bought this game in late november, and started going into pvp only now, and im having so much trouble in understanding how the pvp works in this game, i’m getting killed in half a sec, and i cant seem to find what do do about it, sometimes i get lucky and end up killing something but this is almost rare.
I want to know if there is some place where i can find information, guides, tutorship, because i need it, i’m loving the game, i’m loving pvp, but i cant get to understand the thing.
Please leave your tip, your advice, anything that could help me become a better player.

Remove Stealth

And I use every class save Guardian in high level tPvP, and I play both Thief and my main happens to be Necromancer. A good Thief, especially in WvW, will NOT get caught like that, and you will NOT beat him. He will out maneuver you, and kill you. He could run away, reset, and be back killing you before your wells have even reached the 20 second mark.

Alot of aspects of Thief need to be rethinked, but D/P needs to simply be nerfed. There is no reason for Heartseeker to be so strong, nor why it should grant invisibility for constant backstab bursting, nor why it should have so much damage mitigation for constant blindness and instant-easy stomping.

Really trying (tpvp)

I’m really trying to find a way to make necro work in Tpvp. Of course, any role I try to fill is done better by someone else. I know some folks will argue but its time to face the facts.

Bunker-guard, ranger, engi, and to an extent, elese do it better.

Condis-engi is better by leaps and bounds, rangers are high up there too (can’t just dodge roll through traps to negate completely)

Burst-thieves, warriors, engis, rangers, Mesmer

Utility-mesmer, engi, guard, ele

Now I know I’m downing the class. All of what I’ve said is true though. The sad part is, I absolutely love this class, what it COULD be. Utilities cooldowns are too long, traits don’t make any sense most of the time/wrong placement. Staff cooldowns just a tad too long.

I’m really hoping we get some changes soon. I dont want to be OP at all. I just would like to have a niche to fill besides our rez signet and epidemics that rarely spread more than a 3 stack of bleeds or so due to every class having multiple cleanses. Besides warriors. They need a little help too.

tl;dr- I love this class. Just can’t seem to make it work in Tpvp. Hope we get love soon.

I had a bunch of Arah tokens kicking around my bank so I decided I’d run it just a few more times to get a set of Knight’s armor for my Necro so I could try out the direct-damage thing with her. I’ve done a pure Rabid build with her pretty much forever so I thought it’d be a nice change of pace.

Problem is, I’m finding it harder to get that stats and traits I want and, well, the plan I have for her build is kinda a mess. Here’s the build I have in mind at the moment. I plan on using it mostly in WvW and dungeons. I wanted to test it out in the Mists but it’s hard to replicate the stats exactly (there doesn’t seem to be a Toughness/Power/Precision amulet).

Any suggestions? It’s such pretty armor, I would love to have a build for it.

Vampirism works best with Knight’s gear, and you can use your amulet for extra damage, or extra toughness.

I would like to start an ingame guild with anyone willing to participate, no representation required, that teaches new players how to use Necromancer, ingame for that purpose only. Not with tutorials, or flimsy guides. I’m talking actual ingame build-advice/tutelage. My goals for expansion would be to expand the teachers to branch off to every class. The goal for the guild, is simply to bring them all together in an easy-to-reach manner.

I already have a few good players that are experts in various aspects of the class lined up, if anyone else would like to offer their support for the community, that would be fine.

And if any of you out there are actually beginners wishing to learn more about Necromancers in both PvP, and PvE, whisper/add me any time, and I can provide help for you.

… a word of warning to you. While your intention is good it may turn out to be an unpleasant experience. Talking to people and explaining to them can be a hard job, especially when…

“Hello… i’m your biggest fan, can i ask you some questions ? I have 16 questions i want to ask you… can i ?”
“Hello… i have some questions… " – after answering “well that’s not true… are you sure that is right ?… are you really sure ?… how sure are you ?… how can you be so sure that you are sure ?”

This can go on for hours, sometimes they come back the next day with 16 more questions, some are ungrateful… some try to take advantage, to some you make builds for certain scenarios, then they brag on the forums with “their build”.

Secondly… while teaching is nice, no one is paying you to do it… no payment no requirements, no requirements may mean that people that shouldn’t teach, might get to teach… Last thing i want is more necromancers saying “I run an epidemic build…” and they start auto-attacking with staff in fractals 42…

I lurk around these forums a little bit every day, and i still see people that shouldn’t teach… teach… But i just think that… “well it’s their opinion…”, and then i see someone saying… “omg… thank you”.
At that point i think to my self… “awww kitten…”

I wonder how long will you be doing this before you get tired… if i had 1$ for every time i answered a question, i would buy a video card every month, and god knows i need one, mine is melting as we speak.

But enough of this doom and gloom… i wish you all the luck in the world with your initiative.

I’ve already been doing this for a very long time Nemesis, I have helped many new players. This simply the first time I’ve posted on the forums about it. However, thanks for the advice though.

Flanking Strike was definitely overbuffed

Imho its not necessarily OP. Classes like ele and guardian have strong access to boons so stripping them often becomes a necessity and it will not alwaykitten. The problem is classes with weak access to boons are punished too heavily in a fight. A class that can get swiftness every ten seconds isn’t going to be as affected by this as a class that gets it every minutes. Also because the timers to not reset to base you can literally have thieves with buffs times they were never supposed to get access to. However, considering what flanking strike used to be I think the change was necessary. They may need to nerf it in the future. That being said I do not think they will because it is important to meta.

I know what they did, they buffed Flanking Strike to tone down all boon-heavy professions like Elementalist and Guardian, but right now they did a bit too much.

I mean, they were supposed to give tools to play against those profession, not tools to completely destroy their mechanic. You can easily use a flanking strike every 4-5 seconds or less, which means 2 boons stolen every 4 seconds, which is HUGE.

Arenanet fails to understand balance, and they make a couple of skills mandatory win buttons while the rest end up being subpar/uselesss. Such as Necromancer’s Putrid Mark (can’t spam it though), Warrior GS 3 (can’t spam it though), Thief Heartseeker/Larcenous, Mesmer Blurred Frenzy, Ranger Traps/Pet(Entire pet, OP), Engineer Supply Crate (can’t be spammed, but too good compared to other options), Guardian invulnerability (can’t be spammed), Elementalist Firegrab/RidetheLightning (can’t be spammed… anymore)

Remove Stealth

Yesterday I did WvW on my Necromancer, everytime I saw a thief come out of stealth I immobilized him, and attacked forcing him to put down shadows refuge, that’s when I placed my well of suffering right on top of it, and laughed when they appeared downed moments later.

Thieves aren’t easy to fight, but not impossible to beat. Just like mesmers. It requires some skills to counter them. Just because most probably you stood there doing nothing everytime a thief stealthed, doesn’t mean they should remove it!

That was a very bad Thief.

A) He didn’t escape your immobilize

B) He stood in your wells

That strategy would only work in PvP on a small point. That strategy is completely unviable in WvW. I could literally escape your wells spamming 2 on my S/D, or just Deathblossom spam, or Shortbow 5, then kill you while you’re waiting for tkittenecond long cooldown.

If stealth would ever be removed I want instant casts, tons of shadowsteps(I mean tons), and a buff to blinds(attacks miss during the duration of blind, not for just one attack)

And more endurance.

Would you also like backstab to be an AoE? Shortbow to knockdown on autoattack? Dagger 1 to be a 12 second evade?The purpose of removing stealth would be to remove the ridiculous survivability Thieves have, not to increase it.

Pestilence - tPvP Power/Cond Hybrid Build

I’m not positive if this build has been done before or not, seems like it might have, if not it is rather strong and worth posting. It is a variation of the Potentate build, with a different focus entirely. This is not a well bomber.

  • Carrion Amulet (Berserker’s Jewel)
  • Dagger (Sigil of Air) and Warhorn (Sigil of Earth/Sigil of Accuracy)

  • Runes of the Thief

Utilities

  • Consume Conditions

Primary Stats

  • 2090 Power

The primary strategy with this build is adaptation. It is an adaptable build suitable to kill in many situations. Plague Signet and Corrupt Boon are very strong together, and with this build you can create a very sizeable burst depending on your opponent. You can also burst using your Signet of Spite along with Doom into Dagger bombing.

Dark Path is very important, as it chills, and adds bleeds. You can immediately fear them to get them to turn around so that you may get the damage bonus for a serious burst.

I believe Necromancer was built with Condition-Power hybrids in mind, just by looking at how things were SUPPOSED to synergize. For instance: If Feast of Corruption worked properly, 48% damage off Spite, added to other max-damage-bonus it equates to a 92% damage bonus. That’s quite a bit.

Drop Shroud, have minions as F1-F4

I think it would work a whole lot better if Death Shroud was removed. Instead, have the minons as F1 to F4, so they don’t hog up utility slots. This way, people would actually use them in game.

Great, another Minionhappy person. I don’t want Minions. I hate using Minions, I think they are awful and should just plainly be removed for different pets/mechanics.

What you suggest would be forcing me to play a Minion role to make use of a mechanic I wouldn’t want to begin with.

I would like to start an ingame guild with anyone willing to participate, no representation required, that teaches new players how to use Necromancer, ingame for that purpose only. Not with tutorials, or flimsy guides. I’m talking actual ingame build-advice/tutelage. My goals for expansion would be to expand the teachers to branch off to every class. The goal for the guild, is simply to bring them all together in an easy-to-reach manner.

I already have a few good players that are experts in various aspects of the class lined up, if anyone else would like to offer their support for the community, that would be fine.

And if any of you out there are actually beginners wishing to learn more about Necromancers in both PvP, and PvE, whisper/add me any time, and I can provide help for you.

Judging by your screenshot you spend a lot of time in WvW but close to zero time in PvP.

Allow stealthed characters to contest points in spvp, and then thief is excellent in spvp. The one and only reason why thief is weak in spvp is this artificial nerf against it.

You’ve obviously never seen a good S/D Evade master bunker a point.

Half the reason very few people take any posts in the Thief forum seriously is because they are a) completely baseless opinions, and b) the extreme difficulty people seem to have forming thoughts into complete sentences with grammar and punctuation.

Seriously, stop with the run on sentences. You make Thieves look bad when you post this nonsense coupled without any articulation or clarity.

“I am a Thief, please nerf me.” Yeah, OK.

I generally take very few posts seriously in the Thief forums because of posts like yours.

Thieves need a few nerfs, correct, but they need a complete redesign. Stealth is an OP mechanic in any MMORPG, Arenanet should have known this. GW1 Assassin, GW1 Necromancer, GW1 Monk, they were all effective and better balanced, or atleast more so than this game. They were also significantly more interesting and fun.

And I’m one of those people that hates Stealth regardless and think that it should be removed to be replaced with GW1 Assassins.

If you hate stealth so much, why are you only complaining in the thief forum? Mesmer have stealth and it even complements their clones. Its apparent that your hate is only directed toward thieves and stealth.

No he directs his hate towards anything that is not necromancer. And if he gripes about necromancer it is about how terribly weak they are as for being on the topic. I learned awhile ago that zerking is cool for COF and not much else. So when I am not running COF I run a full healing stealth build and it provides a lot of group support and I am able to face tank bosses like the HOTW ones (above ground we really need better access to stealth in the water.) Or they could give us some of that kittenin evasion we get underwater on land lol.
and even if someone in my party has massive thief hate I still res them because the longer they are alive the faster we finish the less I have to hear about them griping on thieves

I play all classes, and I was using S/D Thief earlier today. Warrior needs a huge buff, Necromancer needs bug fixes, Thief needs precision nerfing/fixes, Mesmer needs nerfs/buffs, Elementalist needs buffs, Engineer needs nerfs/buffs, Ranger needs a huge nerf, and Guardian is fine.

You’re making some odd decisions with your traiting. You’ll definitely want to move some points into Curses, and I’m telling you that “Close to Death” is an incredibly useful trait in Spite.

It looks to me like you’re partially going Vampire, while partially using Staff, while partially focusing on daggers, while partially using Wells. It seems like you’re trying to hybrid far too much. 15 points in Curses for fury is extremely useful, 30 points in Spite for Close to Death is also very useful, and if you’re going for wells the well recharge is very strong as well. You can make up for the lack of critical damage through Amulet, Runes, and Gear far more in PvE/WvW than you would be able to in PvP.

If you’re going Daggers, you won’t be standing far away to do damage, so you’d be wasting a trait, not to mention I’m not positive why you want 20 points in Curses if you are going dagger power.

Most of your problems seem to be fighting opponents alone and allowing them to go at range. This is a point capture build, it is meant to fight on point. If your opponents leave the point, you capture it, they lose. If they stay on the point, you kill them with wells, they lose. I don’t know exactly how you’re attempting to use the build, but if you like, you can contact me ingame and if you’re in NA, I can help you.

Or they could just revert Axe back to Closed Beta version and give it Cleave. Or give us a Greatsword with Vampiric traits and give it cleave. Or just give us cleave.
