Dreamer vs Quip for Thieves?

in Crafting

Posted by: Tman.6349

Tman.6349

Quip can be used in dagger/pistol, p/d, sword/p, and p/p setups. The Dreamer can be used as shortbow secondary set. Engineer can use Quip for p/shield and p/p. Mesmer can use Quip (Quip’s ‘aura’ matches the Mesmer’s natural purple skill effects) for sword/p and scepter/p. Ranger can also use The Dreamer for whatever reason they would choose to use a shortbow.

I thought today’s features were really good. People have long commented on the problems with Instance owners leaving. And, I find the new crafting feature very helpful.

Who doesn’t want improved performance? Well, I suppose some have great performance now…lol. But, I will look forward to possible improved performance on my machine! =)

Features? Those were just fixes/QoL changes for existing features.

Yes. A “Feature Update” would imply fixing/expanding/improving existing features.
A ‘Content Update’ would imply adding new content to the game.

As for the use of “galore”: galore is a word that can be used in both quantitative and qualitative contexts.

*"Our guild has active members galore!"
*"Our Guild Leader has charisma galore!"

Birthday Blaster Soulbound?!

Having it account bound would make it completely redundant as a birthday gift on all other two year old characters. It would also defeat the purpose of specific gifts for birthdays. You wouldn’t expect your five year old brother to get a car on your sixteenth birthday as you did right? The ‘Loyal’ title refers to being loyal to a created character, not for being loyal to the game. Although, the title IS account bound which doesn’t make any sense and, IMO, should be changed. All of the character specific titles should really.

Personally I hate being forced to switch, it’s just so limited. I would have liked to have been able to build 1 and 2 element specialists as well as 4 element generalists.

Cause 5 weapon skills isn’t limiting ~.~?

no? every other class has 5 skills per weapon…

with interesting, well-implemented traits, 5 weapon skills could easily be every bit as good/flexible as 20.

Which is why he points it out that using “…it’s just so limited” and ’I’d like to specialize in one attunement’ in a single thought is silly.

you’re conflating “limited” solely with #skills when I was clearly referring to builds/playstyles.

being forced to play Ele as a 4-element generalist is clearly more limiting than being able to also specialise in 1 or 2 elements.

No I’m not. But Ele is balanced around having access to 20+ skills which is why most of them are weaker than similar skills of other profession’s weaponsets. No matter how much you specialize in Fire, it doesn’t change the fact that using a stun, chill, or immobile after a Meteor Shower is very effective. Ie. You can specialize BUT ‘dancing’ is still important for being most effective with Ele. That is the design and won’t be changed. Engis do this same kind of ‘dancing’ for maximum efficiency for the exact same reasons. That’s why these two professions are considered, by most, to have the highest skill ceiling in the game.

Also, even a Pyromancer’s Staff Ele shouldn’t only camp fire because you’d be losing out on a very powerful blast finisher from Earth. However, you can do this passively. I’ll usually swap to earth right before a Conjure so I can use my bursts and then be ready for my might/fury stacks as soon as I’m done with the Conjure. Staff Ele is kind of lopsided for this debate though as Fire is heavily geared toward damage to the point other attunements are strictly used for control/utility, but they are VERY good for those uses in order to land all your burst damage.

Is anything being done about conditions?

Still the only content that the player will overly suffer for is what I mentioned (as they will possibly denied rewards due to lack of damage). Otherwise, the player will still be “successful”, tho potentially not effective as they could be.

Play a dungeon with 5 bleed rifle warriors and then play it with 5 anything-other-than-condition warriors and tell me conditions are fine in group play. Burning and poison are in an even worse place because it can cap out at one person, due to it stacking duration. As soon as the enemy is perma burned/poisoned it doesn’t matter how many players you have, because you’ll still be doing the damage of the one or two people it takes to perma burn/poison. In solo content conditions are awesome, but as soon as you have more than two or so people you are at the limit for conditions.

I love these examples that demand build DIVERSITY, but then use silly examples like how FIVE condi rifle warriors will be ineffective. O.o Many people run conditions to solo dungeons. Those same rifle condi warriors can finish a dungeon just fine too. No they don’t play well together (WITHOUT variety lol), but it is viable to achieve the goal. As was said before, zerg content is the real problem where enemies are burned before enough damage can be applied to tag mobs. The impression that I’ve always got from these different arguments is “every other option should be equally capable of dungeon speed clears and welcome in those groups”. I really don’t understand this mentality of choosing sub-optimal builds for content and then going on a crusade to change the balance to make it equal to min/maxed builds. People that run Berserker, DON’T use it at world bosses. You know why? Because that isn’t optimal. ‘Dynamic Combat’ involves using your many tools appropriately for the situation.

The Birthday Blaster appears to look like Scarlet’s gun but with a slightly different skin and a little glow effect.

Here is the buff that running over a cake shot from it gives you:

  • +40 to All Attributes
  • +10% Karma
  • +15% Magic Find
  • +15% Experience From Kills
  • 10min duration
  • 5 seconds of +33% movement speed (yes, 5 whole seconds…)
30 second sugar rush debuff after speed boost wears off where you cannot get the speed boost again to prevent stacking duration.

edit
Additional info:
You cannot receive the cake nourishment if you already have nourishment active.

  • This is good as you don’t have to worry about your expensive food getting replaced by accidentally running over a cake.
  • This is bad though since you cannot remove your active nourishment (or any buff) manually, so you cannot choose to get the cake buff until the timer wears out on your active nourishment.
  • Not sure if gaining the cake buff after activating the metabolic primer causes the cake buff to adopt the primer duration or if it is exempt from being extended with the primer.

So you’re saying I can keep my +Power/Precision food AND, literally, FORCE the sillies in PuG dungeons to, at least, have an active food buff? Wahoo! This is amazing!!

*Maybe next year they’ll give us the ‘Multipurpose Elixirgun’ for potions too.

Let’s see. They’ve created 9 new skills (1 heal for each profession + toxic heal) and 40 new traits (5 for each profession) in 2 years. Each profession has 80 traits (including minor ones).

So: they’ll have enough traits for a new profession in a couple years, and enough skills in maybe 4-5 years?

and it will still be redundant. there is no need. and if they do add another ‘Profession’ it will most likely be a scholar.

What was purpose of metor-nado nerf?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They could cast Meteor Shower from behind the zerg (1200 range) and then go into Tornado form for a huge damage boost. With 25 might, fury, banner of discipline/strength, arcane lightning, spotter, empowered allies and blasting staff, you’re looking at casting a Meteor Shower at around 5400 power at 245% crit damage with 100% crit chance. I know this example has ‘all the planets alligned’, but I think you get the picture. 24 AoE Meteors, under these conditions, are gonna wreck a zerg. Even without all the buffs from other professions, it’s a lot of damage.

I completely thought this was a troll at first. Ranger the best in PvE and OP?!?!?!?! What’s you /age? Like 3 hours?
No seriously I’m hoping rangers get buffed even more in PvE. They are THE worst. Yeah sure they can hide behind their pet in open world, but the ranger’s power is despicable. I urge you to play a dps warrior in PvE, then you’ll see what OP is. Also, have you ever tried to pug a dungeon as a ranger? See how that goes. And thieves barely playable? Ummmm….
My advice, learn something about the game before you make posts like this.

I was gonna make a comment about how stupid this post is (and why), but I realized I might aswell quote your last sentence.

“My advice, learn something about the game before you make posts like this.”

People that got an actual clue about the game would know that rangers by no means is the worst class to bring for a dungeon. Necromancer with its lack of group utilities is the worst class, by far. Ranger on the other hand is a valuable (again, valuable, not the best) member for speedclearing, if played right. And with the upcomming patch boosting their dps, they won’t be any less useful.

+1 and props for not lighting a fire under his kitten for his sheer ignorance. Anyone who knows how to play the Ranger/Pet at a high skill level has to be taken back by this post. This, unfortunately, is why the virulant hate toward Ranger/Pets is so prevalent in PvE and many will be kicked on the spot.

“Have you ever tried to PuG a dungeon as a Ranger/PET? See how that goes.”

Umm…have you ever looked into the fact that many/most high level dungeon teams almost always have a Ranger/pet in their group? Do you even know what a Ranger/pet is actually capable of? My Ranger rocks a respectable 2600 power and can maintain 25 stacks of might, permafury, and permaswiftness on himself and the pet. Pet has a respectable 93% crit chance to to go along with Rangers 75%ish. On a stationary target like a boss, Ranger/Pet burst can dish out very nice damage with Jaguar doing 7k crits. I also have a Champion Hunter title the bets you’re full of poo reguarding Rangers in PvP as well. Good Rangers don’t “hide behind their pet” either. They fight alongside it.

I agree, YOU should take your last bit of advice there and put it to use so you don’t sound like a fool.

Do ‘viable’ and ‘optimal’ have the exact same definition? I Cleric’s D/D Ele camping water can complete the entire game. Maybe, even solo a good share of it. It is very viable. Is it optimal though? A Dire Warrior can solo most of the game, including many dungeon paths. It is very viable. Is it optimal for dungeon speedclears?

Title. I want to know if I’ll be able to actually run a viable condition build at some point.

Thanks.

Conditions have always been viable. In fact, they’re incredibly powerful except in every aspect of the game outside of dungeons and zerg content. Are conditions ever going to be capable of 100k bursts? No. That flies in the face of DoT/attrition style play. Apples will never be the same as oranges.

The fact that my conditions, as a condition build, get overwritten as soon as someone auto attacks that has a condition is flawed. I can have +1000 condition damage and as soon as some zerker warrior with a rifle uses their auto attack, that 1000 damage bleed on the mob is now a 70 dmg bleed.

To say that conditions are fine in any content that isn’t solo is flat out wrong. Sorry.

I very specifically implied that they are not 100% efficient within group play. Mmkay? Berserkers aren’t very efficient against world crosses and structures. That is why we adapt in those scenarios. Perhaps you should take advantage of that same logic.

Retaliation rune?

175 Power is available on lots of runes, so it’s not really making Retaliation any more powerful. Saying that it’s a problem on one that boosts Retaliation duration is like saying Runes of Rage are problematic because they give Ferocity on Fury-boosting runes or Healing Power on Regeneration-boosting ones.

I wasn’t saying there aren’t plenty of way to get power. Might is very effective at this. Other runeset have nothing to do with anything. I was only pointing out that you kept saying this rune wouldn’t make Retaliation more powerful after it being nerfed, but the rune you proposed would do exactly that. Not saying that I think it’s a terrible idea though retaliation guardians could do well with something like this in a zerg setting. They have huge amounts of aoe retaliation already. with maximum power and an aoe retaliotion on an entire zerg with 100% uptime would be sweet i guess.

Commander tag shapes

Tman.6349

Fun fact: I don’t even know how a dorito looks like, as I’ve never seen one. I might google it these days just because, but not right now.

Oh and another fun fact: Like a week ago or so, that topic actually came up in teamspeak, and I was told that the commander-tags actually don’t look like a dorito at all and people just call them doritos because they feel like it. Then again; I wouldn’t know (yet). ^^

That being said, I think different shapes would be a bad idea. It’s a commander-icon, and not some silly fashion-accessory.

Pretty much. I do think they could’ve have added just a couple more colors though, but shapes are not necessary at all imo. There is no need for 12 or 16 or 20 different varieties of commander tag. The idea of colors is to make organizing easier to understand and accomplish. A plethora of different shape/color combinations, whether within a Meta or without, wouldn’t really accomplish this. I think we got a big victory with the few new colors we got and not having to shell out an extra 900g to use them so I’m pretty happy with it. If they need to add colors in the future, will they still charge us for this is my concern. I’d rather they just add 1 or 2 more colors before the patch is officially launched just to give a bit of wiggle room in the evet that 4 isn’t quite enough for different WvW maps/groups. I’m sure a ‘tag meta’ will be established within wvw and pve shortly and am looking forward to this change. Six colors would be perfect for things like Boss Blitz, etc.

no but who profits the most from stopping goods and gold from coming into the market and dragging the prices down?

TP flippers and people that know hidden farming spots always try to stop new farms from showing up.

Oh wow! A TP flippers conspiracy…how novel…

Apparently you don’t play MMO’s that much. In WoW, one guy was undercutting me in the Auction House on ore to the point that even if his ore sold, he was still below vendor price. You’d be surprised how far someone will go in order to keep a good farming spot hidden or to sell mats and not let people in on how good it is.

You must not play GW2 that much. If you’re selling on the TP for less than vendor value, then you’re lying because it doesn’t work that way at all. Also, TP flippers don’t work that way at all. Also, this farm isn’t a ‘secret’, obviously, because there is this thread here on the forums about it with a Dev’s response. Would you like to debate anymore silly anecdotes?

*I’ve played since the launch of GW1 BTW

Their example was for WoW, not Guild Wars 2. Just sayin’.

EDIT: Just realized I quoted something on page 2 and has probably long since been forgotten. What a morning I’m having.

On regards to the blix farming, I’m not really for or against it. If I’m participating, someone caps wants to cap it, I usually just say “If they want to cap it, let them, it’s only a game.” Sure they may be doing it to ruin the the event for all the people, or the genuinely don’t know what’s going on (People who have their chat off, and the such).

I’ve enjoyed the Blix event farming simply because I suck at making any sort of gold in this game. I can’t join dungeons because I get removed because I don’t know the paths, and everyone always tells me “Do dungeons, it’s the best” they just forget to add that I need to know every path completely because no one will bother explaining it to me.

Either way with it being patched I’ll dip back down into trying to get money again, but at least I made a decent bit of gold while this is active (Only 25g so far, but hey, that’s the fastest I’ve ever made gold).

I realize what he was referring to b/c he said, “In Wow…”. That doesn’t change the fact that GW2’s TP is different than the example his strawman tries to imply. It was designed that way for precisely that reason. My point still remains that it was a fallacious arguement and has no credibility in this game. Driving home the irony of him saying “(I) must not play GW2 that much”. mmkay? thanx.

What does traits have to do with anything in this OP? Is it just a convoluted, contrived way of asking to be able to buy level 80 toons? Why not just be transparent and ask that outright instead of beating around the bush with silly conjecture about ‘everyone’ and ‘traits are hard’ and ‘we all’ when it has nothing to do with what you’re personally asking? I guess if it was ‘Let us buy lvl 80s!’ Then it wouldn’t seem as innocent maybe? Level up and get traits like everyone else has had to. I’ve had 10 geared 80’s since long before tomes were introduced. It’s not that bad. If you’re willing to spend money to level, then leveling normally and buying the traits you need isn’t a problem, rendering the OP pointless anyway. Yay for circular logic!

Nothing at all, you still got the better deal, I wouldnt complain, I mean your getting multi color, account bound tag for 200g where in the future it will be 300g.

I too have 2 tags, we are lucky they didnt give us back our 200g and took away the commander from us and made us buy them again at 300g, we are lucky for that, so please accept it and move on.

well, i don’t have 2 tags myself, only have one, but i think they are entitled to a 100g refund per extra tag as well. just like when ANET made the BLTC mining pick account bound and increased the price, those that got extra pick got a refund.

I stand by what I say, again, we are lucky anet doesn’t refund all of our gold from tags and makes us re-buy them using only the new system.

Exactly. We have a character limit of 56 toons. Anet was planning on making each color 300g. You are getting the functional equivalent of 67,200 gold for a measly 200. Take your shiny new tag. Be happy. Lead some groups to victory.

@OP: you keep saying you don’t want to make Retaliation more powerful with this Runeset but adding 175 Power will do exactly that by default. Guardian already has ridiculous access to AoE retaliation to maintain it nearly 100% though anyway. And like Perplexity did for Confusion, I don’t see a problem with this to be fair and honest. Bunker Engi’s are salivating at this idea.

“Full bunker spec with 25 Might and Retaliation? Sounds legit!”

Retaliation rune?

I thought the same thing with confusion but they created perplexity runes :P.

“Hey boss…I have a great idea! Let’s Nerf Mesmer’s Confusion into oblivion because everyone is QQing that it is OP! But wait, there’s more. What about then making a Runeset that gives super easy access to Confusion to every other profession!?!”

“Great idea Leroy! Make it happen.”

/sigh

Went into Sparkfly 45 mins early to setup up a Teq kill. Played taxi for 20 mins filling the map. Got us all organized. Banners down. Feast of power food. Everything looking great. First phase, defense, and burn smooth as silk….then disconnected. FTW

If he already has them then the trade post is good enough really, but that wasn’t clear to me. Regardless my answer was…nvm…

I was thinking he wanted to get the gloves if he liked the dye on them which would be in LA. Was kinda thinking ‘two birds, one stone’. Thanks for setting me straight. Yeah the wardrobe works too.

You can look at it in game pretty easy in Lion’s Arch. Go to the CoF token merchant over by the Postern Ward (the east side of LA). Look at his armor and then preview the gloves. While the preview window is still up, open the TP and search for Celestial Dye. Right-click the dye and preview it as well. Click back over to the open Preview window and you can check it out.

You can use this method to preview any armor with any color. It’s especially For mixing and matching different pieces to make sure they’ll dye the same. It only gives you four generic dye channels so you might have to preview the same dye several times to get the channel that you want dyed. Good luck.

Your ‘you press 2..blah blah’ only applies to bad thieves. And what are these #2 skills that are causing you so many problems? Is it that ‘HUGE’ damage #2 on pistol? Is it that #2 on short bow that is only useful in melee range that turns nearly useless by walking a few steps away? Is it that #2 on sword that is only a teleport? Oh…I bet its that HS spam that sillies do right? Noob thief spams 2,2,2,2,2,2….then warrior presses that sweet number 6 and all of a sudden noob thief just fully healed him and is out of initiative?

So now the new anti-thief troll meta is “Get rid of thief mobility! It’s too OP!”

“Wait! I thought it was their stealth that is too OP!?!”

“Oh yeah! It still is. Just get rid of them both so thief will be more balanced mmkay…”

“But what about Engis and their 14 knockbacks? What about warriors building for for 8 different immunities/invulnerables? What about permachill necros? What about chain cc rangers?”

“Hey I’m only talking about thieves OK! What does hard counters have to do with anything!?!”

Yes sure, because if you avoided one IS, FS, LS, SS or whatever the thief gets back the initiative spent in the process, right. Gosh, how can people be so blind? A thief fuels his attacks with initiative which is a global unified countdown system across ALL weapon sets!! if he spends initiative on one skill, he literally makes all skills go on a cooldown. And if you manage to avoid a skill which costs iniative, you successfully made the thief spend initative for nothing.

And then he uses the same skill right again. Iniciative gain is too high and the penality for missing is to low.

The penalty for missing is is that he loses initiative (his primary resource) and you take no damage. That is the fundemental idea of what dodging is. Read my above post about adding extra penalties to evaded attacks and maybe it will sink in after a couple read throughs. As far as being able to use a skill again, ask some Mesmers how well Powerblock works vs. every other profession besides thief.

Yeah sure I get it: thieves have a global initiative pool that can allow them to chain/spam a few skills. Other professions have cool downs on their skiils (how about those 20 skills ele has eh?) What you don’t seem to grasp about that global initiative pool is when a thief wastes initiative, guess what happens when they swap to their secondary set of skills? I’m sure you’re not catching on yet so I’ll spell it out: they swap weapons and then they STILL CAN’T USE ANY SKILLS!! Ya dig?

And with those changes, thief will remain with ini when switching weapons, only who spam without control wont have any.

My original anologies had nothing to do with cooldowns or that those prfessions that miss those skills still have those skills put on cooldown. What I was referring to was the fact that you want to nerf thiefs mobility (one of their primary fuctions for survivability) by giving them a penalty to those skills getting evaded and incurring an initiative penalty. That same inititive pool is what fuels their offense. If one of the professions in my above examples have their mobile attack/engage dodged or blocked, they are still capable of continuing to dish out damage afterward. Your asking for not only the initiative penalty of missing the attack in the first place but then doubling down on that missed/evaded attack thus severely crippling their output afterward. My examples were to show how fallacious this idea is when applied to the damage output in the exact same scenario with other professions.

Claiming that a random tele (read: instant) evade is somehow a sign of excellent play or show of a terrible thief is just as silly. Get over the thief hate. Your entire premise is completely flawed.

OP: So thieves are supposed to be mobile in order to have a chance at staying alive and they’re balanced in that regard? Yet, the only thing they’re missing is enemies being rewarded by dodging those mobile attacks through nerfing the thief’s mobility? Say that out loud to yourself with a straight face plz.

Not taking damage IS the reward for dodging attacks. Let’s just carry that over to the other professions mobility while we’re at it. If a thief dodges Bull’s Charge then the Warrior is stunned and immobilized for 5 seconds. If a thief dodges Swoop then the Ranger’s pet automatically dies. If a thief dodges RTL then the Ele is locked out of Air for 20 seconds. Etc,etc, etc. Do you see how ridiculous this sounds?
