DPS Advice, P/P PvE.

TwiceDead.1963

EDIT: I should’ve called this thread “Can I have some DPS advice” to avoid confusion.

I am really digging P/P with Thief, did before Daredevil and I still do. It may not be the most viable, I don’t care, I love it, it’s awesome and it’s fun. I can work with Mediocrity if I can have fun with it.

My current build:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vZAQNAqaWn8lCNOhVOBemCkmilqiy7COhAY7GDscc+6z+xH-TBhFgAAKBpV+Zq+j4+DAA-e

THE POINT

I need mobility. With Unhindered Combatant I get that, but with Bounding Dodgers I get Damage.

The other option is the Signet of Shadows, but with Signet of Power I also get Damage.

For DPS sake, do I go with Bounding Dodgers for the 10% Damage Increase, or Signet of Power?

I don’t want to run both, I need to be able to move for survivability. You obviously get more of that with Unhindered Combatant, but how much of a damage boost does Signet of Power actually give me at this point? Do you get more damage with Bounding Dodgers or a Signet of Power?

Bounding Dodgers grants some interesting utility though, you can do some cool tricks with Bounding Dodgers leap finisher, like Black Powder stealthing (arguably a waste of initiative as Unload does more damage than Vital Shot, but cool nonetheless).

Opinions? Advice? Discuss?

No I am not removing Impairing Daggers. It’s awesome, and fun.

Outfits - Shoulder toggle on/off?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TwiceDead.1963

TwiceDead.1963

They can’t toggle shoulders because they haven’t done the art for the armor without shoulders, outfits are all one piece and made that way so they can create many more of them with the resources available.

They didn’t what now?

http://i.imgur.com/RWfdQbF

There’s clearly done art underneath the pauldrons on the Crystal Arbiter, so I don’t know what you’re on about. The way they’ve done it is to map and texture the core frame first, then tack on addons like pauldrons, gauntlets & accessories. They just haven’t bothered to make these addons detachable.

Really like the outfit as well, besides the shoulders, they look hideous.

Was it worth the price of 2000? kitten no. I don’t need anymore dyes and I don’t need a total-makeover kit, nor a glider-skin. Already regret I didn’t wait, I suggest you do because eventually it will resurface.

Update:

I found a build I quite like now guys, two days ago someone in-game gave me some very in-depth helpful tips which led me to use the following build:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASncoCVYhVXBGpC0ehlJjieur7/Gs6yuQSsZKgAA-TBhFgAAKBpV+Zq+zlOCA-e

I wouldn’t say I am being the best or most damaging player ever with it, the damage is easily trumped by my condition build, but I am definitely having a lot of fun with it.

I am occasionally switching out Elixir R for Flamethrower and then taking Juggernaut, but being the naively friendly person that I am, I really like tossing Elixir R’s on downed players.

Med Gyro is not something I keep active, I usually destroy it as soon as I cast it, but I get another heal comboing Reconstruction Field with Rocket Charge.

Bulwark Gyro is awesome in PvE, I have no idea what people have against it.

Thank you for all your advice, everyone.

Old post beneath the line:

The build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASncoCFpitoCepC0ehF2iiO4H+lHcEPxAIMFvoXD-TRhFgAAKBpV+hpD4SDxp6PAA-e

I don’t know what I am doing with scrapper in PvE, no matter what I do I feel so infinitely weaker and less flexible than compared to my Condition engineer or a regular zerk-nader.

I figured I’d go tanky with a lean towards damage and power with Soldiers gear over Toughness and Vitality, but even with the added survivability I still go down really fast, faster than squishier builds… Well my condition build is not all that squishy, it uses Rabid so… But still!

It takes AGES to kill stuff as well, just soloing in the world, it feels like while I did gain lots of HP and armor and can stay alive relatively well, I traded all my damage for that.

I am by no means a pro, I am in fact a guildless solo-scrubnub 90% of the time, but I can tell when I trade all my damage for only a neglible amount of survivability in comparison, so obviously I am doing something seriously wrong here!

Basically I am having little success with gyroes, and the daze in PvE is awesome, but I can have all the CC in the world and it wouldn’t matter because I can scarcely kill things fast enough.

I know this sounds like whining, and frankly, it is, but I desperately need some insight on how to play scrapper in PvE efficiently so I don’t drag people around me down with me when I go down!

EDIT: Maybe i’ll have more success with Carrion… A mix of condition and power for the hammer…

Viper any good for condition builds?

in Engineer

TwiceDead.1963

Is Viper sets any good for condition builds? If you combine Viper armor with Sinister accessories maybe? You’d think it would be considering it boosts expertise which increases condition duration(far as I know, I could be wrong).

Then again there’s consumables that already do that, so maybe Vipers is unnecessary…?

Gear Advice?

TwiceDead.1963

I’ve had my level 80 elementalist just sitting there for a while, and I am not sure about what’s good or bad or how many different roles there are so I would like some advice on this.

I am thinking to go mainly DPS, whether or not it’s condition or straight up power I don’t know.

What options do I have that are somewhat optimal?

Say... If I wanted to support in PvE.

in Mesmer

Posted by: TwiceDead.1963

TwiceDead.1963

But what if you just dodge the big hits? You don’t need vitality.

And why would you need healing when everyone has their own heal?

I’m just confused here, it’s like you want to invest in a selfish HP stat and then a healing stat you’ll never use.

I think my mind was just on the wrong trail, tbh.

I was focusing on TRAIT X in the Inspiration tree which is called Restorative Mantra’s which heals every time you ready a mantra, so I thought I could support on world bosses like Tequatl and such by just spamming heals through mantra’s.

Checked out how much the healing stat actually affected Restorative Mantra’s, and it turns out that 100 points into healing is only a puny 20 points of additional healing from Restorative Mantra’s, so I don’t think that’ll help at all.

Say... If I wanted to support in PvE.

in Mesmer

Posted by: TwiceDead.1963

TwiceDead.1963

Well, Inspiration gives Healing and Vitality and a lot of glamour and reflect focused effects from it’s trait-line, so I just assumed Vitality would be good for me as well since I could stay alive longer while providing support.

Good to know I have pretty much free-reign though as far as stats go though. I guess condition damage is good for support if you’re planning to run staff + scepter/ward?

Say... If I wanted to support in PvE.

TwiceDead.1963

Planning to get runes of the Traveler to use for, well… Travelling, but I also plan to use that set for something so I am kind of in the middle of a crossroad right now for which set I should get for a support job.

Already have my Mantra DPS build going, with it’s Ranger Rune imbued Assassin’s Set and Zerker trinkets but that get’s stale after a while. What stats should I focus on if I wanted to support? Healing and vitality?

I was thinking maybe I could make a hybrid mantra-healer using that trait-line in inspiration that heals every time you ready a mantra and just spam the Mantra of damage that only has a 1 second cooldown or something.

Any opinions on Support and PvE?

Posted by: TwiceDead.1963

TwiceDead.1963

I honestly don’t feel Engineers need access to Evade but I do feel Rocket Boots need a way to function as a more efficient soft CC cleanser/mobility. It doesn’t make much sence for them to evade attacks while jetting through the air at break neck speeds.

I’d argue that it would be harder to hit a target moving at break neck speeds than a target rooted to the ground, hence the increased evasion?

Yeah I don’t really have anything to add though…

I log back into Guild Wars 2 on one of my favorite classes, Mesmer (other being Engineer), and I haven’t played in at least a year.

I log in, and my build is wiped, most likely due to the many changes made to the game, and I don’t remember what I was doing. My only clue would be the equipment I was wearing when I logged in.

Basically all my gear(except my weapons, because for some reason they are statless, which I can add stats to) is based around Power, Precision and Ferocity. I don’t remember if Ferocity was a thing back when I quit because for some reason it feels alien to me, but I know it increases Critical Damage.

I just want to know what I can do within the limitations of these three stats:
- Power
- Precision
- Ferocity

Reason I don’t want to change my build is because I remember spending a long time crafting my current equipment (Orange).

Yes, just NOT Lion’s Arch. ANet makes every god kitten thing happen in LA. And the result? Lag fest. My loading times into LA were bad anyway, with the Dragon Bash, people are waiting upto 2 minutes for me to load in and out of LA.

They should implement this content in other cities in the world. Places where people do not need to zone in and out of constantly.

That’s the thing though. My thoughts were that since people can’t do their business in Lion’s Arch (Vendoring, banking, mystic forge ETC) they would be forced to go to various other cities in order to do it. Then again if it happened in any other town, they would be forced to leave lion’s arch in order to do it. I guess both things could work, I don’t care eitherhow as long as I get an attack on a city at some point. The great collapse comes to mind…

A bow fits their assassin/hit man theme more in this setting, as I can hardly imagine a silent blunderbuss. Even the guns who have a silencer on them are purely cosmetic, as they are still loud as kitten. Nope… A silent arrow is the better choice for the hitmen/assassins in this game.

That kind of stuff would make the game interesting… I’d imagine running around the streets of DR just fighting off mobs to make the area useable again. Noobs will just have to find somewhere else to do their shopping… Claypool village for instance?

Now 20/20/30 I find the immobilize is good but… It’s so easy to get away from and feels like a ruined amount of set up. Out put is ok but feels like a minor set back to your foes and it hard to just finish fights.

This is what I ran in sPvP, going for the immobilize.
I figured out the best use I could have with this; is if I ran with other people, interrupting/immobilizing their targets, making it easier for them to finish fights.

While I was fighting 1v1 on my own, I had mixed results. Against another mesmer, just forget about it was my take. They would just keep popping clones, and shatter your face to pieces without taking a scratch. Then again I found out that if I kept interrupting the mesmers phantasm summons, the fight became a bit more manageable when I got up to 15-20 stacks of might… However Decoy kind of made that an impossible feat. Against thieves? I kept interrupting at the wrong times, as those thieves just kept dodging around.

I got really aggravated when Magic Bullet just didn’t want to work properly whenever I tried to use it, which along with Illusionary Wave was supposed to be my main interrupt skills.

Against Warriors, it was pretty even. Warriors attacks are often very easy to interrupt, especially if they are using greatswords, so I managed to fight off warriors most of the time. Same thing for Guardians, even fights mostly. Probably because they were big with predictable swings.

I fought a Ranger too, but he was really bad so he doesn’t count.

As for Elementalists?
Holy kitten I kept getting owned.

This was the build I ran with if anyone is curious:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAR8alwzyoXUzmGb9IhpHE33CnkCTn6SK49tB-TsAA2CnICSFkLITQygsBNEZRw+DA

I think my mistake was that I literally had no other way to get boons other than using interrupts, and using greatswords #2 skill, so I was basically relying on having might for the duration of a fight… You’d be surprised how quickly you lose those 10+ stacks of Might a sudden.

I do love the interrupts... But!

in Mesmer

Posted by: TwiceDead.1963

TwiceDead.1963

The problem with interrupt is the timing. I tried in pve but very hard hit the good moment. This is unnecessery pain, and very big chance to unsucessful interrupt but skill goes to cooldown nothing happens.

Solution:
Change interrupt mechanics.
Interruption need to happen if target casting something.
If target not casting, interrupt the next casting.
Maybe all interruption need to be daze for mesmers, and daze get the: interrupt active skill or the next skill. (like confusion damage)

This guaranteed the interruption, and dont suck with timing.
This would be nice buff the interrupt builds..

This is actually not too bad of an idea…

If you gave interrupts a slight timer, working the same way like confusion does, but in this case whenever the target attacks they get interrupted instead of taking damage.

That timer has to be very low though… Like 0.5 seconds at most, or else it would be blatantly OP in PvP(Actually you could just change this for PvE, and leave PvP as is). I do like the skill aspect of interrupt skills, it’s just a bit too hard to pull off in PvE at the moment.

I do love the interrupts... But!

in Mesmer

TwiceDead.1963

I think there should be some changes to the interrupt skills to make them more viable in PvE though. Shouldn’t be difficult considering PvP and PvE skills are split. They just need a push in the right direction to make them a more viable playstyle for PvE. Now as I mentioned earlier I didn’t try an interrupt build in PvP, but I hear mixed results.

I feel like they are a bit too situational for PvE use, as the reward does not outweight the effort put into pulling it off. I haven’t tried Interrupts for PvP yet, though so I can’t say much about that.

Not really sure what I am trying to say here; other than “I like interrupts! But they are kind of lackluster…”

Wouldn’t it be interesting if interrupts didn’t just affect you, but your clones/phantasms as well? Things like “When you interrupt, your illusions gain bleed on their 2 next attacks” or something?

in Mesmer

Posted by: TwiceDead.1963

TwiceDead.1963

I really don’t want to play a shatterbuild. I live in this false belief that any build is good as long as you learn to play with it, but for mesmers it seems to be the go-to build. I hate when MMO’s turn out like this, where the devs kitten up the balance so hard that only a few builds remain viable if you want to feel up-to-par. People may argue that there will always be a “Best Build”… But the thing is, in other games where those builds are done well; there’s only a very thin blurry line hardly noticeable between the best, and the alternative.

Sorry that my post has offended you. I was not aware of the nerf on DE.

Yup… It used to be minor master dueling… (look at most other classes on dodge traits… Minor right?) but the qq lead to it being moved to dueling master major which is fine… However with the nerf to iCelerity that DE is most mesmers (myself included) only reliable source of clones. Any further nerf. I would quit the class entirely… Some nerfs were called for… The iCelerity nerf was over the top but we have adapted… DE… I fear would destroy us….

You… Know… Typing… Like… This… Serves… No… Purpose… At… All… Right…?

On topic:

Sounds like Mesmer needs shatters nerfed, and everything else on the mesmer buffed. At the moment it sounds like shatter mesmer is the only way to go, and that just sucks because personally I hate spamming clones only to use them as suicide bombers.

So I want to try and play along with the newly patched mesmer, which seems to be in favor of interrupt’s. Now I’ve been playing 0/30/20/20/0 for a bit(playing kind of supportive, using phantasms for heal’s and reflects). Seeing as I was playing support, I really shouldn’t be surprised I wasn’t doing much damage before I got my phantasms up, so quickness on interrupt seemed a little silly.

I want to use an interrupt build that can do a bit of DPS. I see so many shatterspamzorz running around, and I outright refuse to do DPS that way, as it seems so boring…

So I guess my point is I want an interrupt heavy DPS build, yet at the same time remain offensive on phantasms
