AI doesn’t really matter though, it’s the attacks the melee mobs use that are too kitten inconvenient.

Every time they attack, they stop to play an animation and while doing so are completely immobile and vulnerable to hammering. This makes kiting insanely easy. Ettins for instance, whenever they are going to attack you they HAVE to stop, and charge their attack for either a massive swing or a smash to the ground and you can EASILY walk out of that area. Ettins that should be rampaging trolls of destruction should function more like rampaging centaurs do, charging players and knocking them over with their club then proceed to smash their face in. If they gave NPC’s the ability to attack while on the move like players, things would become a much greater challenge and would most likely be downright harsh.

A smarter or dumber AI doesn’t matter as long as this is the case.

Dye drop rate improvement

Truth be told… I don’t see the problem.

You can yell “GIVE ME” all you want, but you can’t have everything for free.
People are waiting for paychecks on the other end of the game, maintaining servers and working on patches/bug fixing etc (which have been lackluster).

If you want everything handed to you from the beginning, then an MMO might not be for you as the basic principle of many MMORPG’s is to work for the good stuff. I don’t like it, but that’s the way it is. Want to craft good armors? Well then you better spend a lot of time in front of the crafting table. Want to find good loot? Then you better spend some time getting your magic-find % up while doing dungeon runs.

But yeah, considering that the drop-rates for unidentified dyes seem to have gone to hell and bellow, I wouldn’t mind an increase.

I will say however that when the game starts feeling like a chore, then it’s best to take a break for a while and do something else.

However axes serve no purpose a thief would want, they are not precise weapons. Axes are squarely in the “hack’n’slash” style of combat. No precision, just general ideas of targets as precision with such a weapon is nigh impossible, the way they are balanced prevents it.

I disagree! When execuTORS need to chop someone’s head off, they would preferably aim neatly on the executed’s neck, rather than his back since that could take longer. Chopping off half his head is no good either, as his entire head needs to go.

AXES REQUIRE PRECISION TOO!
But yeah I agree that they wouldn’t fit thieves.

Executions were not performed with precision at all. The executioner’s blade was a big heavy lump of metal that relied on brute force to get the job done. More often than not it required multiple chops.

Multiple chops AT THE SAME SPOT OF THE PREVIOUS CHOP SEVERAL TIMES.

If that’s not precision then I don’t know what is.
You seem to be confusing precision with one shots that get things done in one attempt. You’re wrong. Precision can require multiple attempts. Such as hammering nails into wood. If you don’t hit the nail on the head, it will bend and possibly become useless.

In short: YOU’RE WRONG.

Capital letters are cruise control for cool.

Also, you’re wrong. Executions were grizzly and blunt affairs, not precise. There is a reason why the Guillotine was invented.

Any kind of precision is precision. I didn’t say they were very precise, I said it required precision. Didn’t say it required A LOT of precision.

So no. You’re wrong. Deal with it.

Personal Story - What if?

I wish I didn’t have to do the story in order to level. I often find myself interrupted in the zones I am because the amount of killing and questing I am doing doesn’t level me fast enough in order to stay in said zone. I often find myself taking on opponents three to five levels ahead of me because I did all the quests that were closer to my level. This forces me to do a multitude of things! For instance:

- Crafting.
- Dungeon crawling.

Lastly and certainly worst:
- Personal Story.

I skip everything that has to do with dialogue in Personal stories. The characters piss me off as they all have about the IQ of a five year old child and the personality of an infant! The plot is fine in itself, but the characters… OMG THE CHARACTERS!!!

My problem is, they are all so BLACK or WHITE. I can’t recall ANY character that is a part of the story that is remotely in a gray zone! Ah, that’s a lie, there was one, and his intentions were good, but he got flinched for doing something lifesaving for hundreds by sacrificing five.

I don’t see how you can ‘bear’ listening to the story dialogue at all!

honestly.. adding mounts just feels.. cheap.. and horribly cheesy

You say that, but don’t state any proper arguments why Mounts would feel “CHEAP” …
Again so many people claim that mounts would make GW2 a worse game.

I don’t see how it would. More content is often for the better, and mounts are proven to be a reliable, and generally liked piece of content players tend to appreciate, and use often when available.

Can AreaNet please ban these posts when they pop up? Or tell the community what your stand on mounts is so they stop (hopefully) posting this garbage thinking there will ever be mounts. I think these posts are more from trolls than people with honest opinions….

I vote for the banning. I’ve already given my opinion in two or three other mount threads; not wasting my time.

Mount are highly unneeded in this game because of waypoints, speed buffs and the swiftness boon . Also this is not WoW . . .

Oh yeah! That totally makes sense!

If a game has mounts, it’s WoW! No other games can have mounts for that sole reason!
Other games can’t have mounts because WoW has em’, totally! If other games had Mounts, it would be WoW! And we’re not playing WoW, we’re playing GW2! And GW2 isn’t WoW so it can’t have mounts! IF IT HAZ MOUNTZ ITIZ WoW! NOT GW2!

So when I thought I was riding a horse in The Legend of Zelda, I was actually playing WoW the entire time… Or when I am playing Mount & Blade, apparently that’s WoW too… Astounding logic…

I’m mindblown!

To add to the topic:
You don’t skip any landscape by riding a mount, if you’re interested in the landscape, you’ll look. If you’re not, you won’t look and will just head for your target destination anyway without looking around. Same thing with mounts. I am downright certain that as soon as someone discovers a new waypoint on their minimap, they’ll head STRAIGHT for it ignoring everything around that point, and only take care of the things that are in the way UNTIL they have discovered it.

You are allowed to make whatever feedback you wish, regardless how rediculously game-changing it sounds. The ones who know the Engineer’s concept the best are the developpers, and they have a vision for this little maniac. They won’t simply budge away from their concept just because some player doesn’t feel like this class is what it should be like. They know how to judge between what’s reasonable and what’s not, they’re not robots simply going by votes. For instance I could suggest I wanted a kitty-launcher, a million would agree to that, but it would still not happen because it would be racist towards the Charr.

I don’t agree with the OP. Shame on you for telling people what to do.

EDIT: This is for PvE Scenarios.

Use your weapon for the occasional crowd control abilities. If you run P/P take a moment to blow off the blowtorch for some additional condition damage. Otherwise as long as your enemy isn’t moving all over the place, use grenades.

Nice thing to do is to switch to rifle, fire net-shot, immobilize your target and use your grenade toolbelt skill to ensure that all the grenades hit the target.

Yeah, mainly use grenades. Your weapon doesn’t outpower the grenadier trait unless specc’ed for power+crit + elixir U + elixir B, and it has to be a rifle and even then it’s single-target and not AoE.

As I said, switch to weapon whenever you want to blast off some additional CC or Condition Damage, otherwise stick to grenades.

That’s how I do it though, and my word is not law, so do as you please.

As the guy above me said, you will severely limit your potential as an engineer if you don’t like Grenades or Bombs. I think he means bombs, as mines is another thing.

Of course you can run many builds without it, but to get at least a little close to the burst damage potential of the other classes you have to run explosives at the moment. I ran a condition build from 1-67, after that I switched to rifle with grenades and a heavy power+crit build. Leveled much faster with no problems after that.

Transform us into something fitting an engineer I would say.
Be it a some ‘robot’ or some rampaging tank.
Or that abomination from a mad scientist… just do something fitting.

My own favourite:
Make it a one man band where every instrument and jingle does something… Silly as it goes, fun is a factor for this profession.

Very important: never ever remove the stability from it, currently that’s one of the main reasons it’s even remotely usefull!

Just get rid of the copy paste.

I agree on the points in the list.
The cast bar moslty is what makes it impossible to get it out at all.
Personally I need elixir S slotted or traited at 25% just to be able to do the double casting of elixir X.

Point 6: On the heal: give the transformation it’s own heal. That way the dev’s can pick a heal that fits wihtout having to balance all possible heals (like how do you balance med kit with it).

Drinking some experimental liquid that brings unknown effects and potentially transform you into a hulk is what I’d consider engineery… Mad, wicked and gimmicky to the point where you no longer care of the experiment succeeds or you die in the process.

Only reason i love engineer is because I get transformed into a hulk. HULK SMASH!!!
I just wish I was green… Better get some of that hylek juice that turns you green and use this ability. >_>

Drop Rates & Magic Find, How does it work?

As the title asks, I have no clue how drop rates in this game work.

Me and my friend were testing out magic find the other day, getting the same gear for it. Going to a zone neither of us had been in before (We are the same level), we partied up and slaughtered everything.

Yet for every drop I seemed to get, he seemed to get three more than I did every time. We have the same kind of gear, granted he is a necromancer and I am an engineer. I am just confused how come this happens, as I don’t seem to notice any huge difference in drop rates with magic find levels above 40%.

Is there some kind of diminishing return on the drop rates?

Anet already stated why they don’t want mounts in the game, but everyone ignores this piece of information even though it’s the most logical, fact driven reason. Moving faster from point A to point B makes the space between point A and B effectively smaller and less significant. Anet put way too much effort into creating to huge beautiful world just to turn around and trivialize it by making the journey through it a quick, forgettable experience.

TL;DR mounts make the world smaller and we don’t want to make the world smaller.

First time levelling an Engineer (Help required)

TwiceDead.1963

I suggest you pick dual pistols and go for condition damage. It’s a lot more viable in the beginning than the rifle is in the beginning as it has both AoE options and slot 4 skill deals helluva lot of damage ina cone in front of you. Additionally I’d pick either grenade or bombkit, probably bomb kit for smoke bomb, concussion bomb and big’ol’bomb, bomb kit has by far the most combofields to detonate with your mine detonator (If you dont use shields, besides mine has knockback and is useful for combo detonations and fields.

Lastly I’d pick something like Elixir B, rocket boots or utility goggles. Probably rocket boots if you spec condition damage, as rocket kick deals helluva lot of damage and guess what? Rocket boots are a combo detonator as well! Goes greatly together with bombs kits combo fields…

Yeah, condition build until you get to 30 traits points to put into explosives. After that get the grenadier trait and run grenades, superior in all ways for PvE.

Rifle vs Grenades

in Engineer

TwiceDead.1963

AoE Crit build?
Just go Power + Precision, forget about condition damage as it doesn’t do kitten against structures.

Or even better, go Power + Crit Damage, then get Power + Crit gear, then more power + Crit gear, and stack 20 points to firearms and 30 to explosives and 20 to tools, get the scope, 10%+ crit chance when you stand still, run up to your enemy, and just own everything with your grenades before they get to hit you twice.

Condition Damage builds are inferior in PvE, as grenades kitten straight outclasses condition based builds in damage. Sure, with the pistols flamethrower trick (slot 4) you can dish out 3000-4000 damage in 4 seconds for condition, but with the grenades you can crit 6000 on your toolbelt skill that has a similar cooldown. At least that’s my experience. I used to run a condition build, but then I noticed how outclassing grenades were in damage even when I were running CD crit build… Then I switched to full power-precision-critdamage and now I wish I had dont that a long time ago.

Grenades outclass any other damaging build for the engineer in a PvE scenario, you don’t need to worry about enemies moving about as you have freeze grenades and a rifle’s net shot to immobilize with.

… Just grab your grenades and go all power, forget about CD builds until this matter get’s balanced out.
IF it gets balanced out.

EDIT:
Oh, to answer your question, no. Rifles will not be able to dish out the same amount of damage as grenades in a PvE scenario. In PvP, that’s a different matter.

Off-hand/Main-hand Slot 1 merge?

in Suggestions

Posted by: TwiceDead.1963

TwiceDead.1963

So… I am a little bothered by the fact that when you use an off-hand, if you don’t use your slot 4-5 skills (Thief excluded), the off-hand weapon hangs there like deadweight.
Why can’t the slot 1 skill be a merge of the off-hand and the main-hand? Such as when you use dual-pistols. Firing one gun at a time would potentially give you a higher firing rate and more firepower in general than using only the main-hand pistol, just like the old cowboys of the wildwest did, they couldn’t pack many magazines like todays soldiers… Instead they pack a lot of guns! A lot of revolvers in order to have an advantage in firepower without having to reload too often! Of course they would eventually have to reload but…

Or, let’s take dual-weilding swords! Instead of the off-hand just hanging there like some dead-weight, can’t he cycle in using one weapon at a time? I know there is a specific european fencing method by using and off-hand dagger defensively, but these are not your european fencers utilizing the main-gauche.

Well you have caught my drift for now so I think i’ll just leave the rest to your imaginations… I have no really good balance suggestions to this nor any good way for it to be implemented, but hey a discussion about the possibilities are always fun!

My take on that particular little detail is:
He must be a complete idiot! He doesn’t know how to properly aim his shots! Well then again he is an adventurer and not a trained soldier, and was probably never told how practical aiming can be… Despite how practical his inventions are, his gunmanship needs to be polished. He should learn from using his pistol! He actually aims with it! To the point where he runs with his body bent sideways in order to line up shots!

Heh, funny little detail that. Then again he is utilising the rifle more like a shotgun… On another note, maybe if he learned how to aim down the sights we wouldn’t be limited to 100 range for max damage on blunderbuss? Just a thought.

TwiceDead.1963

This is something I did purely for fun and by no means do I expect it to be taken seriously.

I present to you.. The Tiny Nuisance Kit! (Didn’t come up with a better name)

What it is:

The tiny nuisance kit was originally the first ever guild war lore experimental vacuum cleaner, a mad invention by a mad man who thought cleaning should not be done by hand, but by machinery. The result did not go as planned, as he tried to create a machine that walked by itself. The device gained sentience and wen’t berzerk, attacking the inventor. The inventor countered the attack by burning the device with his flamethrower and as a result burned down his own lab.

This sparked an idea! The device that had gained legs had caused him to sabotage his own lab! This could be used for weapons research! And so he wen’t brainstorming for evil tiny varied devices of doom to harrass his opponents…

All abilities are ground target.
(Switch the slots around if you wish)

Slot 1: Spider-Mine [CD: 0]
Throws a mine that chases your target inside a 300 radius before it blows up with an AoE radius of 80. Explodes, they hurt, dealing damage.

Slot 2: Tickler [CD: 10]
Throws a small spider looking thing that chases it’s opponent from the landing point and climbs onto their bodies, effectively interrupting any casting they attempt to perform for two-three seconds since they are constantly distracted and interrupted by a tickling robot. Single Target, daze 2-3 seconds.

Slot 3: Walking Man-Trap squadron. [CD: 12]
Throws three tiny robots with small mouths that go nom-nom-nom after peoples feet, immobilizing for 1 sec on impact and crippling for 4 seconds as well as dealing a minor amount of damage.

Slot 4: Chomp Chomp [CD:15]
Throw a bigger version of the Walking Man-Trap that will keep biting the target for as long as it remains inside the target radius of 400. Single target. Does not immobilize, functions like a pet inside a radius and deals hurting amounts of damage if the target being chased doesn’t move out of the target radius. Is fast, lasts for five seconds.

Slot 5: The Walking Vacuum Cleaner Perfected. [CD: 20]
A copy of the defect vacuum cleaner now improvised for combat. It will attempt to chase targets, VERY Slowly, and will continuously pull targets inside a 500 range in a cone in front of it towards it . Deals no damage. Lasts for 8 seconds. Pulses every 2 seconds. Great skill combined with Chomp Chomp.

Hope you enjoyed the read!

Leaning more towards Condition than Power, no vitality and no toughness.
Explosives 30
Firearms 20
Inventions 0
Elixirs 0
Tools 20

And yet I find rocket kick to be so satisfying… I feel like Chuck Norris sometimes. Truth be told though, all I ever do is spam grenades, so I should have gone for a pure power build I guess. Power and Crit Damage seem most ideal for a grenade build. The P/P becomes about as useful as a thief running sword and dagger when I have the grenade kit as an available option.

My Condition Build pistol at most managed to do 2800 with slot 4, and poison darts to 1200. While grenades do 1400-1600 on normal attacks when all three nades hit.

Kind of makes it a no brainer what to choose if you want to kill stuff fast instead of going into a twenty second circlejerk with the enemy before they die.
