Farming for a specific item is not worth it in this game. You get only 1-2 lodestones per hour. Farming for cloth is RNG since it is dependant on lootbags and salvage items.

in Elementalist

Ulion.5476

1. More natural defense abilities from weapon sets/traits.
2. Buff focus to be capable as a replacement for cantrips:
Fire shield – buff it by removing the internal cooldown and reduce the cd or enable it to purge a condition when the enemy hits you(removing the might stacking aspect of it). Gale – reduce cd. Freezing Gust – add condition can not do direct damage target with a boon. Comet – increase AE.
3. Glyphs need some kind of buff. Glyph of renewal – reduce casting time, increase the duration of the fire attunement renewal. Glyph of Elemental Power – Improve proc rate. Glyph of elementals – add a on use effect base on the type of elemental summoned.

Once you know what to expect from a guild you can think of how to counter them. The first range zerg I run into melted my old guilds hammer train. Mesmer/necro remove stability, elementalist/theif cc and so much AE. Hammer trains are pug friendly, while range zergs are not. Kiting around a hammer only works when everyone is on voice comms. The problem with range zerg is few pugs stick on the commander. So only gulds can run a range type zerg.

Mystic forging for precursors

in Crafting

Posted by: Ulion.5476

Ulion.5476

So can you elaborate a bit on your method of dumping 1000 rares into the toilet? Are you doing them all in one session or over a set period of time? Are the rares all the same make (daggers, GS, staves, etc.) or are they mixed?

I think for greatswords and staves, in particular, you’ll find they’re about 40s minimum to throw into the toilet in vast quantities. I think I’d rather craft them from sundry materials.

Well I dumped them all for one attempt. So I buy 1000 rares (~300g) and dump them into the mystic forge. I only mix up the weapon type if I believe that precursor is not worthwhile to get (venom, rage, so on). Using the same weapon type ensures that you will have a chance to get that precursor. Mixing up the weapon types you can get anything. If you dump 1000 rares into the mystic forge over a months worth of time I feel like I will not be as lucky. Still you always have a low low chance of getting a precursor even if you do ti that way.

A thief should always be able to initiate the fight which put the elementalist into defensive mode. The thiefs first combo hits for 8-10k for a non-tank ele that is hard to comeback from. Specially if you have under 15k hp. In wvw I normally have ~22k hp with buffs so dealing with their initial burst is easy enough to do. In spvp we do not have guard defense for extra HP making it a truly paper vs scissor match up.

Is that 250 attempts figure real, or just a guess/estimate? Also, is that using mystic forge stones, or not?

It’s a guesstimate. People throw thousands of rares into the forge with zero return, other than the odd named exotics (Zommoros’ way of taunting you into keeping going till you hit a pre).

Based on real-life experience, it could take thousands of attempts with random rares, or even exotics. But RNG…

One of my friend sells precursors and has EVERY legendary because of that. That was his average of attempts to make a precursor. So far it has been accurate for me. I have made 3 precursor that way.

The Conditionalist: Can It Be Done?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Ulion.5476

Ulion.5476

Best rune for a condition spec ele perplexity>scavenger>undead. Perplexity is the best condition spec rune because it give you confusion. The extra damage gained from confusion it worth more than the extra condition dmg from the other runes. Scavenger heal and adds more condition damage than undead. Conditions are not the most viable specs for elementalist. The main problems you have with if you go for a condition spec:
you lack condition removals
you do not have enough damaging conditions
you stack bleeds slowly (13s for a full stack).
you need sigil of doom to help with condition damage.

No good elementalist will stay in one attunement for 15sec to get max bleed stacks. The only plus side, condition spec ele can perm-burn. Having a ~900 a tick burn always on your target helps alot.

d/f burning signets ele for sPvp

It is difficult to survive in spvp without 15 water or 30 arcane. I use a powerful aura Defensive support(protection)20-0-20-30-0 with pvt amulet and 2 runes sets that increase protection duration. Build with D/D or D/F, 3 signets and ether renewal/glyph of healing. The teams gets upto 3stack of might and kitten of protection every signet us while the enemy takes around 5s of burns.

I agree that burning is the best condition ele can do since it is easy enough to perm-burn someone with signet of fire alone. But for a condition build to work ele need to be able to stack bleeds faster or have more damage conditions. Since cleanse are very abundance in spvp.

Without flippers the supply of most of the high-end items precursors to runes would greatly decrease. Including the supply of cloth/leather. How do you get cloth/leather? From salvage and bags. Who puts massive supplies of cloth/leather on the market flippers do. Limiting the amount of transaction anyone is capable of doing on TP would just increase prices on everything.

Sorry but I call bullkitten on that one. Flippers add nothing at all to the TP, THEY ARE NOT FARMERS, they buy low sell high, that’s it. The supply of precursors would be unaffected as would anything else.

Buying low and selling high is what I hear people say but it is not exact what happens when you flip items. Buy low then I craft, mystic forge or just sell for a higher price. It is difficult to find items which people sell in bulk for quick cash but it is easier to take
useless items make them into a valuable one to resell. My friend makes exotic sigil/runes by putting rare sigil/runes into the mystic forge in bulk and makes a profit(most of the time). I salvage the white items for cloth/leather then resell them for a profit.

Another one of my friend is in the precursor market he mystic forge precursors to sell. He spend ~500g on rares during the weekends for a precursor attempts. He trys to get at least 1 precursor each weekend. Limiting the amount of transaction would reduce the amount of rare/exotic you can get for a precursor attempts. That is why precursor price tend to be related to the price of rares.

Limiting transactions would reduce the amount of supply of cloth/leather. Last year I had ~1million buy transactions (alot of the 1 item transaction when I have buoght them in a 250stack) and I sold ~150k (50-150 items per transaction) of high price items. That is just how much cloth/leather I have put in the market and it is a very competitive market now.

It is a free market and A-net is aware of the issues of items being sold on the market. A-net has economist to help them with that. Last year silk, greens, blues and other items were selling below vendor value. A-net first tried to fix it with the bazaar but that did not work. Then A-net fixed it with the addition of luck and ascended armor. Now silk is valuable and green/blue can be sold on TP for something.

Right now it seems that people are complaining about not being able to buy the best looking skins or get ascended gear. Ascended rings are easy enough to get from fractals. Ascended weapons are the only major improve to gear and that takes 2 weeks to get the time gated mats for. Ascended armor does not improve survivablity to be worthwhile for most players, so it is like a cosmetic item that cost 600-800g to get 500 crafting and get 6 pieces.

What do you need ascended gear for? Other than high lvl fractals nothing in the game is difficult enough to require that tier of gear. The lack of hard content is one of the issues with this game. The hard content so far has been Lydia, New Teq, Triple worm and high lvl fractals. Lydia was the only one that you did not need a organized raid for.

Celestial & Ferocity = nerf?

That won’t happen because the sole concept of celestial is to have “equal stat” across the board. crit dmg was an exception because it was calculated by %.
I’m sure the stats will be adjusted, but it will be a miniscule amount.

Celestial has the highest crit dmg on a set. Equalizing the stats mean halving the amount of crit damage. Then you get 10% less crit damage after the ferocty nerf.

Celestial & Ferocity = nerf?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Ulion.5476

Ulion.5476

Even if Anet redistributes the ferocity lost stats to improve other stats you will lose dps and gain more defense. Celestial will loses way more dps than berserker because of the change to ferocity. People get this set because it leans more to offense than defense. With the re-balancing that will change.

I prefer that the ferocity lost be distributed just to the offensive stat and the defensive stats stay the same. That way celestial would be similiar to how it is now. A small lost to dps and the defense of the gear stays the same.

Fire shield should make enemies want to stop attacking you and not just completely ignore it. So the stacking might when you are hit is not neccessary. It should either act like a defense and have no cooldown while adding 1.5s of burn to your target each time they attack you for the 5sec it is up. Or it should act like a buff and passively add might every sec it is up and each attack you are hit. Doing both make the defensive and buff aspects of it not worthwhile.

Feature Build Balance Preview

Ulion.5476

I partly agree on this one. I really like the Air and the Earth Signet. Water and Fire on the other hand are just aweful. The Chill is rather redundant when having the choice of getting an Immobilize. Elementalists also don’t need even more burn. Two ideas I had:

Signet of Water
Active
Create a Waterfield for 3s which also provides 1s Regeneration per pulse.
While there already are enough Waterfields or sources of Regeneration all of them are either tied to the water attunment itself or the traitline. The Signet would offer recovery outside of those and probably open up some trait choices.

Signet of Fire
Active
Gain 5 stacks of Might for 5s and cause Weakness to nearby foes for 5s (240 Radius).
A short damage boost and another way to mitigate damage. It would also provide another cover-up condition for hybrid/condition Elementalists.

Signet of water needs a change to make it reflect more on the healing aspect of water. Like active effect 10s regen or 3s waterfield. Otherwise the signet should be rename to Signet of Ice and change the passive to something like applies vulnerability to attackers.

Signet of Fire is fine, it does half of my total burn damage with the condition build I use for spvp. Also, I do not have to stay in fire for me to burn someone. It is a set-up for burst damage with the 25fire trait too.

He was only selling them one at a time even though he had like 3-6 of everything but the legend(very hard to craft with random rares). You need ~1000g to even break into the precursor market, since it takes ~250 attempts per precursor according to him. Still that does not mean you will get a precursor that is worthwhile to sell. 17 legendaries is the most someone should have (1 a month). 11 was the most I have seen on someone.

Celestial gear and ferocity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ulion.5476

Ulion.5476

Completely agree that Celestial doesn’t scale very well as is and hits like a wet noodle because of it. They really do need to make Ferocity a major stat on celestial and have the others “all stats” as minor stats.

Celestial does more dps than full soldier and about 15-20% less dps than full berserker. With the removal of magic find and ferocity the overall celestial stat need to be buffed. I thought A-net would have exchange magic find for something else by now.

Assuming this is true would you expect a generalized set like Celestial to do more than a full soldier set (which has power as the primary stat)?

I don’t think that is reasonable.

Don’t get me wrong, I run all celestial on my Ele (weps, armor, trinkets, all). However I’m not upset with this change because the current +crit dmg on celestial is out of line with all the other stats. It makes little sense.

If you took celestial only for the +crit dmg then you made a serious mistake. You should have picked any other armor set with +crit. Anyone that says they wouldn’t have picked celestial otherwise is not being honest with themselves.

I am not stating what I think it should do I and saying what it does now. Celestial gear dps scales better with traits and buffs than soldier does. With celestial you crits are for ~200% and +40%crit from the gear but you have say 200-300 less power than a soldier. With soldier you can not crit and if you do it is only for 150%. Soldier is one of the defensive sets and does not do more damage then Celestial when buff/traited.

I swap to full celestial because had more defense, more crit and comparable crit dmg than the mix set I was using. I do not see why you want celestial to get nerfed again? So it would do less damage than the defensive sets that makes no since.

Anet adjusted after MF was removed, and if they see evidence requiring to do so again they will.

I remember looking at my triforge amulet after they removed MF and it did not change at all. The stats stayed the same not even a 1stat pt increased. It is best not to assuming A-net did something they did not.

Celestial gear and ferocity

Comparing PVT damage to celestial shown PVT is higher…..also celestial is barely viable on 1-2 builds of 2 professions.
NOt for sure a most wanted set.

Celestial nerf is an obvious mistake not a thought nerf.
I bet they didn t even considered it unless they want to remove celestial and wup wup from the game that is the only consequence the nerf will have.

Wich reason would you have to use celestial when mixing stats of pieces would give you better overal stats with no loss on useless stats.

Now celestial main stat is crit damage….
They are just nerfing the primary stat of a set….until celestial becomes the lowest dps (and totally unviable for ANY build/profession)

If they gave the opportunity people would clearly switch to valk/cavalier/soldier mixes etc…nobody would remotely consider keeping celestial…not even in a single build.

Celestial dps scales better than soldier because of the crit/crit damage. With food, buff celestial does more dps than soldier gear. I can understand why you would think PVT does more damage than celestial but you have to take into account the extra buffs/traits you normally use. http://gw2buildcraft.com/.

I swap to celestial because the mix set I was using before had less defense than celestial. Celestial is just a balance set mid direct dps and mid condition dps. With the add support from healing power, it makes group heals more effective. Professions that do not have persistent group heal tend to avoid celestial.

Celestial gear and ferocity

Completely agree that Celestial doesn’t scale very well as is and hits like a wet noodle because of it. They really do need to make Ferocity a major stat on celestial and have the others “all stats” as minor stats.

Celestial does more dps than full soldier and about 15-20% less dps than full berserker. With the removal of magic find and ferocity the overall celestial stat need to be buffed. I thought A-net would have exchange magic find for something else by now.

What is affecting my fps

Shadows should also effect fps slightly. When a zerg veils into you anything that effect character models will drop your fps. That is 30 shadows that will pop up whenever a zerg appears. You can try to lower that setting.

If celestial gets nerfed that would suck. I remember A-net saying replace they would replace the magic find stat that they removed from all celestial gear with something esle. Hopefully A-net will do that this coming patch.

Getting A legendary

I wouldn’t recommend doing this since precursor crafting will come before he will finish his other components.

Well it will take time to save up 500g. A-net has said precursor crafting would be coming out for months and nothing yet. If anything the price of crafting a precursor will be similar to current cost of buying one. I know some players that saved their precursor last but finally gave in and bought a precursor to finish their legendary.

I hope that the price of legendaries does not increase anymore. The current cost of a legendary compared to when I made my legendaries has increased by 30%. The item that has always increase the most in value was the precursor. So I saved a ton of gold by getting my precursors first.

Getting A legendary

When making a legendary go for the most expensive item first the precursor. You can slowly get everything else along the way. Saving up the money for mystic forge attempts(500g worth of attempts in one day) or buying the precursor from TP are both expensive.
