Regarding Fractals progression… wouldn’t it be nice to be able to craft a socket into exotic armor for AR purposes only? People that don’t have the time or resources to pursue more ascended may find this a nice alternative in order to progress through Fractals.

The whole experience of ascended junk has been very frustrating for me. I want to be able to get my gear and play but with how expensive things have gotten, after the first weapon I feel like I’ve basically been out of that entire progression. Very few people in my guild have more than one ascended weapon and it’s been months now.

This here sounds like you may still, in the subconscious recesses of your mind, have a smattering of the vertical progression system left over from other MMOs. With the flattened progress, you don’t need to get your ascended gear to be able to play. I don’t have an ascended weapon or piece of armor yet, but that in no way impairs me from participating in anything and having fun doing so. I like that it takes a long time. It’s a long term goal that doesn’t affect the short term fun.

Before people run off on how important vertical impression is in their views, do you really want to spend a few months and many, many gold to get your ascended gear only to have hyper-ascended come out shortly after? No, that archaic sub-fee trap needs to be left dying at the mouth of the sewer pipe where it belongs.

One of the huge draws for me to GW2, and one I still love today, is the flattened progression system. I’ve played enough games that were based around the vertical type with the gear treadmill involved, with WoW being a major one, and believe it or not they have far FAR less endgame then we have here in GW2 with the horizontal style. Really… what do you do for endgame in the WoW model? You either raid or prepare for raiding, that’s really it. So, from the heart and most emphatically, please let the ascended tier be the final tier of gear. We don’t need higher and it will be so incredibly much easier to create new content based on a known and expected level of power while keeping that new content accessible to all.

That last part… that’s the most important. Accessible to all. You shouldn’t be forced down a narrow road of required content in order to progress to further content later. You don’t need the WoW style of gimmickry where you toss a new raid every now and then and watch the lemmings run along to the next expansion while you suck the sub fees out of them. You’ve proven that already. Keep ascended max, keep content tuned to exotics and the sky is the limit for what you can create while simultaneously making sure the vast, vast majority of players will be able to experience it all. NEVER sacrifice accessibility!

So, progression. Horizontal rules. I’d like to see more and varied options towards that horizontal… a growing choice of ascended (and exotic) skins for example. Cosmetic things that maybe go a little beyond just an achievement and a title, but I’m not exactly sure what. Well… I have an idea, remember the statues in the Hall of Monuments? Of course, that would require a housing type of setting, but it would be great to have a place of our own to progress with our accomplishments as opposed to a power grind. Imagine a fireplace/hearth carved out of one of Jormag’s teeth that you can craft after defeating him? A lovely couch made of genuine naga hide? That type of progression, showy instead of powerful, would go a long way.

Of course, this is all my opinion, others will vary. I like the path we’re on progression-wise and the potential that is available using this path can be endless. (And yes… housing could really benefit the whole thing… but that’s a topic for another CDI…)

Edit: Just saw the later post – regarding speed, exotics are (now) fine but may have been a little to quick originally. If you speed up the rate of ascended progress you’ll need to more quickly offer alternative skins and the like to shoot for. Some people will push the speed to it’s maximum allowable, and they’ll be the loudest ones shouting that there’s nothing left to do while the rest of us cruise along at our own pace.

Can I find out what Crafting a character has?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I can think of a way, but it’s not particularly efficient.

It costs 10 copper per crafting level to switch. If you ask each crafting NPC, it will tell you the total cost. So if you ask one and it tells you its 40 silver then you know that particular one is level 400. Ask each one and write it down.

Just a little correction, it’s 4g for switch to level 400 proffesion

You mean four silver I think? It’s certainly not four gold to switch.

same goes with luck, why the hell are there these luck drops i must klick on and get luck why not get luck directly?

Take a closer look at the chunks o’ luck when you get a chance. You’ll see that they’re listed as artificer crafting items. I suspect that in the future we’ll see recipes that use the luck drops.

Actually, going along with what I mentioned earlier… imagine crafting things for a potential home instance or guild hall that use, for example, wood, karma, luck and something else to create furnishings or the like? For example, a lucky horseshoe that gives your account a small boost to luck and karma based on the ingredients used when you have it hanging in your place?

I say don’t get rid of any of it. Instead, think of what else can be done with it!

I think, though, if they were to ever do this in sPvP you’d have to not allow the flag carrier to stealth. Otherwise the meta would be a bunch of chain stealthing thieves carrying the flag.

I tell you right now you ungrateful little brats, back in the day we couldn’t just grab us a roll of cloth and smear some blood on it and call it ascended or infused or whatever you dang kids are calling it these days. We had to do it like MEN! We stormed up a mountain in the middle of winter carrying the gear we wanted to infuse with us just to talk to some old hag so ugly she’d make your eyes puke, only to have her direct us to some vile, nasty beast we had to kill, slice open and carefully remove some despicable organ full of some reeking goo and carry it back to the hag so she could smear it on our gear while we stood around in the bone chilling cold waiting, then wear that stinking gear back to town while it dried! Half the time half the party would wind up half dead, and the other half wholly half dead! We did it like MEN and were proud of it! You brats have it easy these days! Now git off my lawn! I’m going to take a nap and expect QUIET!

Wait a sec… Are you trying to make it sound like it was harder in GW1, or easier? I’m getting conflicting messages here!

He’s making a joke, about how it was thematically harder for characters “back in my day” not attempting to compare the two, because trying to compare ascended GW2 gear with the function of infused armor in GW1 is apples and oranges, and would be a pointless discussion.

Pretty much this exactly. I enjoy both the missions from GW1 and the ability to actually craft at your own pace in GW2. Just a little light-hearted “back in the day” humor.

Karma consumables made perfect sense when introduced for the let you share karma with other characters when it was character bound. I’m sure at some point they’ll take a look at it, but it’s really not hurting anything leaving it the way it is.
One possible idea for the future would be to, instead of removing them, use them as ingredients in future recipes. For example, when creating furniture for a guild hall or housing area it would be nice to build the place up with a lot of good karma, you know?

I disagree with the original poster entirely, sure wish I could un-like posts.

The fact that the jumping puzzle is -evil- shows that it is completely flawed. As it stands the buggy exploding presents just make the whole puzzle frustrating and tedious. Only an idiot that delights in others discomfort would find it entertaining at all, it shows what kind of people certain posters are.

We need a fix.

I have to admit, I wasn’t too fond of the changes at first. However once I got the feel for them again it’s really not that bad. I think the worst part on a personal level was that it was different from what I expected and enjoyed so much last year. Yes, the presents can be a pain, but on the flip side you can actually take a pause there and wait for the right moment, so it washes out. Just keep in mind what other people are adding as hints… the blue presents in the front are bad. Try to avoid those by jumping over them. Then it’s pretty smooth sailing.

I got 1 infraction point, and had a 60 second flood control. A couple weeks later, a second infraction point, and it was increased to 120. I think the flood control lasts a month, and the severity is reliant on the number of infraction penalties you have active at the moment.

Yikes. Well, apparently it was a three-point haiku, which surprised me to no end since what was deemed inappropriate was so subtly hinted at. I guess it bothers me that it was meant as good, clean humorous innuendo and I got slammed while other posters in the same thread are insulting the game and ArenaNet without anyone apparently caring.

I DID IT! Woo hoo! Finally got through last night. First thing I noticed was getting past the candy canes that stick out about a quarter way through… I kept failing at those early. Then it was getting to the mints and the middle fast enough. I finally started getting there regularly with about a thousand or so health. After many fails on the presents (and a peek at the forums here) I finally settled down a bit, watched for quiet moments and eventually wound up completing the presents section by jumping off the mint Tixx is standing on and going nearly straight up that way. After that it was fairly easy.

I think I’ll do it again tonight, and for the moment I retract any prior grumbles about the jumping puzzle.

Personally (and I’m admittedly biased because it happened to be, but don’t tell anyone), I think the punishments aren’t really bad. However I feel in my non-biased (yet admittedly biased) opinion that combining the Flood Gate with the fact that I already served a three day suspension seems rather extreme. I don’t think (and correct me if I’m wrong) that I’m a generally troublesome person on the forums so it feels a bit heavy-handed to place this much punishment right out of the gate like this. What’s frustrating especially is seeing people asking questions I can answer and not being able to do so because of the timer thing.

I could see an initial offense bringing the flood gate out, even before a ban. Believe me, it’s quite the deterrent. If the deterrent isn’t enough, then add on the hiatus. So, yeah, this is ultimately a personal plea for mercy wrapped inside of a discussion on the punishments.

I swear, Danicia, with all that I am that I’ll never involve the Tengu (and possible studies into their biological nature) in a haiku again on the forums! It’s stunning the issues seventeen little syllables has caused me…

Blame the people who said they would pay for this feature long ago. It’s sad that people are complaining that Anet is listening to the people. If you don’t like it or think it’s overpriced then don’t buy it and thank those who do because these sales help us get more free content. I will buy just to thank them for the game and get something useful as well. Capitalism working as intended

More sales for free content…You know that makes absolutely no sense in any way shape or form. Either way you pay for the content, whether it’s $15 of gems or $15 for a subscription. At least a sub game offers you the game for your purchase, the Anet system actually milks MORE money out of most people before they realize it.

I’m not saying it’s not smart or a good move from a capitalistic standpoint, but to say any of the content is free is just ludicrous as it’s being paid for by the players either way. Most of this “new content” is gated behind gems or RNG anyway, so it’s just a poor example in my humble opinion.

Go a couple months without paying a mandatory subscription to access a game you already paid for and see what happens. Then go a couple months without buying gems in GW2.

Now, let’s call you out on what appears to be a blatant attempt to spread misinformation: Show me one piece of content that is gated behind gems.

This may not be a popular opinion, but I think we need more stealth changes, possibly even more significant ones. Imagine a dungeon run for the umpteenth time and suddenly there’s a new type of mobs, or a new boss (or changed skills on existing bosses), new events or a complete change in path? In a game that features the Living Story this would fit in quite well.

To Grenth with the same old same old! I say shake it up regularly, catch people by surprise and keep them on their toes!

This could be fun in WvW as well, for example if there were unheralded changes to tower and keep layouts for example that would make people have to figure out new defenses and offenses on the fly.

Wait… it’s the blue presents that blow everything up?

Jumping on any present will start blowing everything up (I think), but as far as I know the timer won’t start while the blue ones aren’t there. With some practice you can just jump on the first row of red ones before the blue ones even spawn, buying you two or three seconds of additional time, making it even possible to hop up in a straight line (if there’s nothing despawned randomly). Just keep in mind the initial pattern is still up to some randomness.

For an example, look here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiBJFwZs6Ww&t=1m40s
As you can see, I have no problems getting over 75% of the stair before anything starts popping (since the blue ones are up and people jumping on the presents).

I think I may love you now. That’s been the biggest pain for me… and it may very well have been self-inflicted.

It’s replacing clock tower as top spot jumping puzzle now.

Maybe it’s because I had to practice several times… but as a horrid puzzle jumper (I couldn’t do it last year, and I gave up on the Mad King’s Clocktower) I kind of love it. I have the timing down on the snowflake section so I can just breeze through it, and I finally got the hang of the giant snowball/final area (although, sometimes the aoe circles bug out on me). The only annoying bit is at the candy cane landing with the presents, because there are always a horde of players jumping on the blue gifts, which wind up causing everything to explode. I wind up waiting until no one is on the platform, just so I know they won’t jump after me and set everything off.

Wait… it’s the blue presents that blow everything up?

The biggest problem is that they made it way to gimmicky now instead of more of a pure jumper like last year. The exploding presents are ruining the whole thing. You’re too dependent on what other people do (them setting the bombs off) and it takes away the personal aspect of it. It was great last year, now I’m just hoping to be lucky enough to be one and done. I’m rarely disappointed with this game, but this disappoints.
