The game as a whole FAVORS ‘zerkers. It doesn’t require them. Its largely the most effective way, no question, but defensive builds can still work even if they’re not ideal.
A DPS boss would REQUIRE ‘zerkers. There’s a distinct difference between favors and requires.
This I agree with in part… a dps boss would indeed almost require zerkers, which is why I feel that’s a bad idea. More of the game should, in my often not so humble opinion, have complexity added to it such that zerker groups wind up finding themselves disadvantaged should they give up (either in group or self) support and control aspects. It’s the ability for zerkers to do so well in a lot of areas that have many complaining that they miss the trinity. Well, add the complexity that requires a full range of combat capabilities and you’ll cure a lot of that right away. This tower does that nicely. Some zerkers in the group don’t hurt, but all zerkers stand a really good chance at failing. Well-rounded characters and groups are much more successful.
We’ve had another 4 weeks of (fairly fun) ministories, but there’s still been NO PROGRESS in the storyline. There’s still no PLOT to Scarlet’s Story.
Here’s the point for the story writers: for every piece of content please ask yourself, “How does this fit into the story and how does it advance the plot? What new information am i giving the players to keep them interested in the meta-arc of the Living story?”
If the story writers can’t give good answers to these questions, and the players themselves can’t find the answers to these questions IN GAME, then you’re failing at the PURPOSE of the Living Story.
This is mostly good, clear feedback. Thanks for sharing.
In the future, please ditch the overuse of caps, as that’s not constructive and reduces the chance that we’ll respond. We read this stuff. You’re not posting in a vacuum.
… which is good… nature abhors that after all.
I’m not sure what the intended take was from this with regards to the story as a whole, but to me it felt almost like a window into the mind of Scarlett, where instead of being to push the story forward, the content was more designed to fill out the character somewhat, to give a taste of the twisted inner-workings of this character. I almost get the feeling a lot of what she does is not only because she’s a bit off, but rather bored as well. Or maybe she’s more like The Brain in “Pinky and the Brain”.
I agree the story itself didn’t seem to push forward, but I think the character did.
You know, you can kill everything in the tower with full zerker too. You just need to ‘’learn to dodge’‘. Would be fun when they would release a dungeon with boss timers so you actually need to run dps specced.
Until they do that, I don’t think I’ll enjoy PvE in this game a lot…Ugh… a dps race type of boss would be horrible for this game. It would only reinforce the fallacy that dps trumps all in GW2. I like that they’re working to break that bad habit that lesser MMOs have cursed upon so many.
Why?
The whole game is already based around ’’dps’’, especially PvE.
The real ‘’pve pro’s’’ only run in full zerker to finish everything as quickly as possible. Wouldn’t blame them tbh, getting rewards the fastest way is pretty much the only thing that keeps pve interesting in this game, the combat itself is just horribly motivated to make a macro to spam 1, move with 1 hand and kitten with the other one. That’s about the skill you need to play PvE in GW2.
The only way to fix that is to put a time limit on bosses so people actually start figuring out what else there is besides #1 spam and troll defensive builds. So yeah, I don’t really see your point.
The whole game? No, no it isn’t. As a matter of fact, berserker groups are the largest suppliers of income in WvW. Bags galore and they shatter like phantasms on a sunny winters day. Now, perhaps a lot of the simpler areas in PvE are fine with the disillusioned zerker crowd, but it’s time they took off the training wheels and learned to actually use the rest of the skill bar, gear options and trait options that are in the game for a reason.
One of the first mob drops in there was Eir’s Longbow which, although it’s not worth a lot, was a pretty cool drop to get.
There is a meter to indicate progress.
Therefore, it is apparently entirely dependent on us and how many times we inject the anti-toxin. (If this is ACTUALLY the case, then that is freaking awesome btw).
So hypothetically, if we all just stopped doing the final instance then the tower would remain forever…
But honestly, i want kessex hills back. (It’s one of the nicest zones in game IMHO) So, lets rock that tower!
Hey… does that mean the tower could be destroyed on some servers before others?
My son is ten, has his own account.
Be warned.
Tybalt made him cry a little.

I dunno… to me it feels like Scarlett is simply bored and has decided to mess with… well, everyone else… however she feels fit. She thinks she can get away with anything, and has been. Mischief laced with evil.
I have a feeling the next dragon we face will somehow tie to Scarlett doing something… and it may even be the last thing she does.
The quaggan are there for all to pity at the base camp outside the tower. Poor little buggers… they don’t take to hallucinogens well.
I’m still trying to figure her obsession with Faren’s “panties”. She looking to cross-pollinate or something?
Where are these Asura located in LA? Also…can Asura be trusted?
(It was a joke. )
They said there would be permanent changes, so maybe never?
I saw your sig and discovered your problem.
You seem to think it’s about winning and losing.
The only cheap space I feel is at the beginning of the third level where you have to make it past the forked bridge. After that it gets a lot better.
It’s the stupid long kitten immobilizes that get you, so bring a lot of condi clear.
Unfortunately for classes like ranger you don’t have many.
That space is quite fine when you work with others and kill your way through instead of trying to run it alone. It’s designed for teamwork.
Yes mj.
And seriously, people are complaining about not being able to run this tower without effort? You went through it once, know what’s coming, build accordingly. Drop the zerk gear, bring condition removal, bring swiftness, bring stun breaks, bring stability, bring blocks. It’s a zerg, you don’t have to deal max dps. Build for survival and try again. You don’t even have to maximize the build as if it were PvP/WvW. Oh yea, and pay attention to the spores before their red circles appear. Just don’t go near em.
Drop the zerk gear? So now I need to gear a certain way to do this?
I can rebuild my thief for more survivability, infact he has decent vigor uptime when dodging. But theres limits. My gear is zerk.
If I need to get some PVT gear to get through this, or knights gear…if I need to get a single new piece of gear to do this, then the patch fails. Horribly.
If you’re failing it in zerker gear it’s simply because, as of yet, you’re not quite good enough in zerker gear to do it. You have the option of continuing to try in zerker gear and hopefully you’ll improve enough where needed to get through or swap things around to give yourself more survivability while you do learn.
You’ve made the conscious choice to die more easily. Don’t blame everyone else when you do.
Hmm… I think GW2 needs Devil Fruit.
The whole “just gotta dodge” cant apply for 3rd level since you literally have to dodge something every few seconds or take the hit that will kill u if your vitality and toughness is not way up there or if you don’t have enough cleanse/escape skills to negate the constant DoT’s and knockdowns
Wait… so you’re saying that if you don’t adjust your build for the content the content might beat you?
Gee, never saw that coming.

Everyone for themselves. Jump over the dead corpses and use the live (soon to be dead players) corpses as shields as much as possible.
My experience in a nutshell, and I’m one of those dead bodies because I actually try to fight the enemies or raise other people like some kind of idiot.
Keep doing it. I’m noticing that it’s becoming contagious.
Oh man, spoiler warning.
However… I feared this very thing. Not Tybalt, you bastages!
I haven’t done it yet… now I dread it. Sigh…
Solo’d on my mesmer, twice so far. I had fun actually… enjoyable fight. I will admit that my clones and phantasms were dying a lot… but that’s because I told them to. It wasn’t too taxing of a fight yet there was definitely the possibility of dying if you weren’t paying attention. Again, enjoyable fight in my opinion.
Be alert, be active and put away that cursed berserker gear! PVT will get you farther faster than ’zerker will.
Overheard a couple Asura researchers in Lions Arch today after the update talking about Scarlett. They’ve been able to uncover a couple things that could give some insight into her past. It seems that, aside from her venomous personality she’s actually quite venomous herself. If she bites you she can release a fairly potent sedative that can knock out a Norn for nearly a week. But even worse, apparently her skin contains many small thorns that release a powerful neurotoxin. There’s enough venom in a single thorn to kill a dozen men. So yes, what we’ve heard is true… her bark is worse than her bite.
Kept trying to run through it solo, would get so far, killed. Ad nauseum. Once, only once, I actually made it. Talk about frustrating.
Until I did it right.
Found a group passing through, we went together. Kill the mobs rather than run past them. Stop at the air purifiers for a breather and killing things pulled to them. Rez each other as necessary. Work together. It was a breeze, and a lot of fun (I thought).
So far I’m enjoying the tower. You need teamwork, yet the instances you can solo if you wish. A nice mix. Well done so far Living Story Team!
Huh… been playing WvW since before launch and haven’t noticed an issue with feedback yet. Probably the only problem I have with it is that it doesn’t reflect siege as well.
Oh would that be fun… incoming treb fire! Stand back… I got this.
If you really want to upgrade and buff defense then you need to upgrade the people. No, not added skills and the like, but have it worthwhile for people to sit at home and defend. Right now all the rewards are offensive so that’s all people want to do is run with the offense. There’s no reward to playing defensively on a personal level. I’ve spent, on some weekend days (don’t laugh…) sometimes six to eight hours in a tower keeping the siege refreshed and being that early alarm bell when an attack comes. Hey, I rarely lost the tower, but didn’t really get (or care about, for that matter) rewarded beyond the fact that I did my part.
We don’t need to eliminate golems or nerf eles or whatever… we need it to be worthwhile for people that like to stay at home and defend to do so. How? No idea. I’ll leave it to the powers that be to come up with a great, rewarding means that no one will claim they like because it “promotes zerging” (whether it does or not). But if you want to “buff defense”, make it so people want to defend.
I noticed last night a few times where assorted solo non-JQers would fall victim to my guild group while moving from point A to B, such as heading to north camp. To those unfortunate folks that may be on the forums crying tears of 15 v 1 roaming groups keep this in mind… there’s a difference between you being the target of a group deliberately out seeking solo players to kill and that of you being a speed bump on the road to somewhere else.
Be patient.
Seriously? Most hearts already have a kill mobs in the area componant otherwise they wouldnt be advanceing. The fact that your killing krate instead of bandits does not really make all that much difference in my book. There are very few hearts where an activity is compleatly removed as an option. Heck even your RP example of freeing prisoners is still an option on most of the free prisoner ones I can think of off the top of my head.
I want to fight the bandits eyc. not the toxic nonsense for the hearts. From RP stand point it does not make any sense in my book.
How can it not make sense? When you were there the toxic mobs were running rampant. The locals really appreciate you killing them much like they appreciate people doing other things during more calm times. What, you think a local farmer is going to hate you for killing toxic krait instead of the local bandits (who were killed by the toxic krait)?
I would love to have an overhaul to all “sentient races” NPCs to have them to in a downed state where they would help each others up, …
Heh heh heh… you got that from me, didn’t you.
As such, I agree with the both of us whole heartedly. It adds an element of “realism” (for want of a better word in a game) when enemy mobs try to help each other revive. It’s a nice step back to GW1 where the mobs were groups of foes that actually worked together.
It doesn’t add anything for me, being a Ranger and at maximum long bow range, it’s a long way to get there to “finish” a mob.
Pointless……………
Finishing is an option. You can still burn ‘em down with the bow if you’re the type of ranger that doesn’t have a weapon swap for melee (as in, gets in close as well).
As a female gamer, I’ve found myself relating just about equally to male and female characters in any game.
Or you don’t know how much you really aren’t relating to male characters as much as you think you do. Men & Women are different regardless how much writers want us to pretended we are amorphous blobs of generic “dramatic emotions”.
Thus my second statement in my post which you appear to have overlooked, about strong characters.
A well-drawn character is going to stand out in a game. Think of Tybalt Leftpaw, one of the most popular NPC’s in GW2. Whoever designed him, designed him very well. I’d dearly love to see more of quality characters like him and less of ambiguous characters that people try to tack irrelevant social agendas onto.
Aw man, don’t mention Tybalt. I had to give my son my Tybalt backpack skin to help him get over that. Little bugger was in tears.
I don’t know if anyone is familiar with the anime “Bleach”, but the relationship reminds me a lot of that between many Captains and their Lieutenants.
I’m going to get one of those and walk around L.A. asking everyone: Are you my mummy?
Buy a cow finisher, then youll understand.
I hear a lot of people were mooved by the way it beefed up their experience.
As a point of information: Technically, the krait aren’t xenophobic. They don’t fear the other races. They just don’t think they’re good for anything but slaves and sacrifices.
Also, VOLKON? Read my sig.
The draxy doth protest to much, methinks.
That fact that so many people love as well as hate Scarlet to me indicates they’re doing a great job with this “bad guy”. Love or hate, she’s making people care about her presence returning.
It’s the bad guys you never remember or don’t care at all if they return that suck. If Scarlet is getting under your skin for good or ill then they’re doing it right.
People are not hating her because she’s a well written character, doing unspeakable deeds or because of her in-game actions. They hate her because ANet have seen fit to make every part of the living story have the same plot: “Scarlet was behind it.” I could go behind a mastermind pulling the strings of various factions who were unaware they are being manipulated, but that is a level of subtlety of writing and plot development we aren’t getting with GW2. Which is a shame, since GW1 was much better on this regard (although I’m not saying GW1 plots were grand, RPG-type stories either. Just a lot better than GW2.)
Scarlet is cartoony, over-the-top, goofy and yet manages to be boring as well. For me her whole representation represents what I hate about the whole Living story: stale, uninteresting repetitiveness.
In other words… Scarlet really got under your skin.
Good job ANet.
I hope they extend it to all sentient enemy mobs to be honest. Let the sentient mobs have a downed state (and of course have them try to revive fallen comrades) and keep the beast mobs without a downed state… it adds a nice touch to the environment.
Besides, it’s a nice way to show off our finishers outside of WvW/sPvP! OK, perhaps behind the scenes there’s a little incentive to buy a finisher from the cash shop… and I’m cool with that. You don’t need it but it adds a personal flair.
It adds a little intelligence to the sentient mobs that I personally think they need.
The thing behind her is a husk
Did she grip it by the husk?

It was me, sorry about that. Just screwing around with a few spells, add in a little too much ale, well, things happen.
I laughed. It’s nice to see a character in a serious moment take a non-serious break to lighten the mood. It’s… like something I’d say.
I think I stomped a few enemy before I realized that I was stomping NPC enemies thanks to extended WvW time, and I love it! Not only can they be stomped, but I’ve seen enemies try to revive enemies in the downed state and that just made me smile. Much better NPC mechanics with that little addition there! I’d like to see that spread to all sentient enemy NPCs to be honest.
So far I’m really enjoying this update!
Not only do all ANet players play on JQ, not only have they allocated massive extra resources for JQ only while deliberately reigning in on the other servers (especially in big fights), but JQ is also the only server that gets 50% off of Tin Foil Hats at the laurel vendor while BG and SoR have to pay full price!
Oh the humanity!
1. Defense. Sure, some think it’s fun to do nothing but flip things all day, but there are others that enjoy establishing and maintaining a good defense. However all the rewards are focused on the offensive side of things, so no matter how much time and effort is put into take care of what you have you get little to nothing for it. Defenders need some good lovin’ too!
2. Alt friendliness. I rarely play alts now in WvW, although I’d like to, mainly because of the WvW points being character bound. Having WvW points be account bound yet the WvW traits be character bound would be one of the best quality of life improvements you could do for the game.
3. Skill lag.
“It was the hacking of our bay back in T2 on a repeated basis by a certain BG guild which started the BG/SoR rivalry. Since then BG has become a server which not only manages its members well but is quite apologetic for any type of hacking or exploiting. I have a lot of respect for that server to be quite frank. What is happening now with certain guilds is disheartening from a competitors viewpoint. Doing certain shady moves and using the rivalry between BG and SoR in the hopes the historic bias of our server will not change. But as far as I’m concerned, there is no more BG/SoR rivalry, let it officially be put to bed. And let the games begin fresh with the new season”
- Indo
SoR knows about guilds that hack. Can you say Fear and HL.
HL…Ya, it was an accident that we hacked into NW tower on JQBL 5 times in less than an hour.
If you were smart enough to form a valid opinion/argument, then youd realize your claim of us ‘hacking’ into your tower is just plain stupid. Sure dude, a few of us lagged through the gate and took your tower.. oh wait lol nevermind we jumped right out as we do not tolerate “hacking”. Morons.
Please explain how you “accidentally lagged” into the tower 4 or 5 times yet no JQ or BG “accidentally lagged” in the tower. In fact, no other SoR “accidentally lagged” into the tower.
You would think SOMEONE would have the same problem at some point. No, just you. I would just love to hear your theory of how you are the only guild effected by this.
Our guild leader has explained the issue at hand and gave you/everyone an explanation on how it happened. The fact you’re unable to comprehend that explanation makes you a moron.
It was a simple mistake due to lag. The guardian it happened to repeatedly jumped out of the tower. The fact the only screenshots shown have showed our member entering/leaving the tower only supports our claims.
I still am confused as to why you’re all worked up with an event that happened a full 24 hours ago. We even had a GM running on the BL. So…
I was the guy on the treb opening night when HL was repeatedly “appearing” in the tower through the gate on basically every attack. I did notice the HL players jumping out… but only after taking out siege they could reach or grabbing a kill first. Now, that wasn’t everyone, but there were a few that didn’t jump out right away, including the one mesmer that portaled a small group in (which subsequently jumped out after killing an AC).
Hmm… let me get through it before they make it harder.
Where are the crafting recipes? I’m failing at search this morning.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Recipe:_Gift_of_Souls
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Recipe:_Gift_of_Spiders
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Recipe:_Gift_of_the_MoonEach requires 10,000 Candy Corn and 100,000 Fangs/Nougats/Skulls.
Edit: Actually 20,000 Candy Corn, cause you need 10,000 to make the recipe and another 10,000 to make the item.
Is one of these for the greatsword with the bats coming out of it?
No. The Bat greatsword is skin you get via Black Lion Claim tickets or buy from the TP. Its called Chiroptophobia Greatsword Skin.
Well poo. That’s the one I probably would have tried to grind out.

So mesmers finally got a much needed boost, and it was already nerfed. Sigh…
Imagine a second bug where you could launch mesmers with trebuchets?
