Yes, it’s normal.
The current meta PvE condition build make use of this freature to proc Geomancy sigil via weapon swap while keeping only daggers in hand (dagger/empty – empty/dagger)

I don’t think you’ve thought this through. Bountiful theft is useless on DE.

He has certainly thought it through, I think it’s you that does not understand the mechanics of Mark.

Steal and mark are not the same thing. I think you don’t understand the mechanics or are confusing them to be the same.

I use rending shade currently. Rending shade is a better steal then is BT and steals stacks. You also do NOT lose steal with deadeye. You can still trait up the deadeye steal.

Mark is not a steal, it’s a mark. BT works on steal which is stated plainly in the trait.

Like necro’s shrouds trait work for Death Shroud and Reaper’s Shroud the Deadeye’s Mark will work with steal related traits.

It’s just a name, should have they called it Deadeye’s Mark that also Steal?
You really think it isn’t a Steal? If you read you’ll see that give new stolen skills.

Steal is replaced with Deadeye’s Mark which gives new stolen skills. Gain access to rifles and Cantrips.

  • It makes Guardian top dps (35k, above Ele) with condi damage gear and traits (axe burning).

To me firebrand will be a quickness bot like condi PS warrior it’s a might bot and the burning guardian (Zeal, Radiance, Virtues) will deal more damage than firebrand while not bringing utility, like the burnzerker with condi PS.

Why? Ele can be a might bot or best dps, just change some talents, weapon and rotation. I want that for Guard as well. If not, I’m not buying PoF. Simple as that. Only other scenario would be if they destroy Ele dps, making it trash tier.

Cause looking to Firebrand’s trait, utilities and tomes I don’t see a dps oriented specialization (only Mantra of Flame could be useful).

I’m not saying this is what the class deserve but it’s what I’ve thought reading the wiki:

Malice also increase by 1 every 4 seconds when not attacking and by 1 when revealed coming out from stealth if traited, so it takes from 20 seconds to 8 to reach 5 charges.

I dont think that someone will run Maleficent Seven to increase the malice stack PvP wise if not for a rifle build, Be Quick or Be Killed give you too burst to not beign picked.

Opening with Unload just after marking a foe while having Revealed Training and Be Quick or Be Killed can kill istantly the target (+400 power +200 precision + 4s haste + might generation) and with Unforgiving trait the target will also be stunned for 1 second with our first hit (while hitting a newly marked target).

There is a downside to having quickness with P/P when one using the Unload , and that it it easier to dodge the entire channel. I am going to have to test as to whether there in fact more raw damage from Malificent 7 with those added malice stacks as opposed to be quick or be killed

Those malice stacks should stay peaked over a longer period of time as well so you should be able to get more attacks off with that added malice damage then Quick or be killed offers. Be quick or be killed realistically will only kick in once every 20 seconds.

This all theory of course. One can not overlook that added precision be quick or be killed offers and that might be what gives it the edge from a pure damage perspective, but this then must be compared to that heal. P/P with SOM running, IP running and getting added heals from Malificent 7 should be interesting.

The most sure thing it’s that we’ll safely unload our bullets on newly marked targets thanks to Unforgiving’s proc and given the time our targets usually last (we should always kill faster than other class) a burst it’s better than a long time ramp up damage (maybe stealthing and re-revealing ourself we can gain faster malice stack, thanks to Revealed Malice trait but in my pov Quick or Be Killed it’s just too good compared to Maleficent Seven in a PvP perspective ) and when we’ll kill our target the mark will recharge itself to allow us to new traits proc.

Is Scourge worth losing shroud?

To me damage reduction via barrier while beign capable to use utility it’s better than face tanking.

I think about scourge like a mesmer (shade mechanic f1 – f5) with barriers instead of blocks and blur.

I certainly miss my shroud when running scourge but I’ll try to learn the new class.

I don’t think we’ll benefit from the innate shroud’s damage reduction as before but for sure Scourge will have the ways to be in pair with our Shrouds when it comes to survivability.

The radius it’s small but the new skills don’t prevent us to use safer utilities like Corrupt Boon, rely on Scepter’s AA or place our new bombs and escape with the portal.

Another good thing about corrupting boons it’s that you’ll gain cover conditions to keep safe our most damaging ones (like convert boons after the actual DS 5+4 combo) even if it’s not the case with the torment/cripple conversion but.. the most valuable thing about boon corruption/stripping skills it’s that you’ll lower the foes efficiency.

Fot Ghastly Breach I see it like Plaguelands+Well of Corruption: not half bad.

that is one build i never did try out this season. how was it for you? being unbloackable and shroud 4 does sound awesome

I usually stay out of shroud to gather condition from my mates and give it back to foes (Plague Signet + “Suffer!”), i use “Nothing Can Save You!” for AoE debuff/strip and help my Unholy Feast to reach stability. After a successful fear, when my target don’t have enough endurance for the dodge roll or when i’m kiting I use Ghastly Claws.

Thanks to Plague Signet and “Suffer!” I can manage the enemy conditions without picking Consume Condition, my shouts scale with more foes they hit so my sustain and life force generation isn’t bad.

I love using “Nothing Can Save You!” with my others utilities to transfer condition and CC foes that feels safe hiding behind a block (so many guardians and mesmers died to this).

I usually swap to staff to make my shroud’s burst: this help me to strip stability and steals boons (if you steal might you can survive better while not waiting the ramp up to deal damage, if you steal regeneration you deals “free damage” etc) to make use of the poison field and chain my CC while my mates deals the damage, then I stomp if my stability last enough or I kite to lure ressers, strip their boons and finish them along with the downed.

Depending on my team composition and life force I can perform +1 or decap far but I usually stay near mid.

Eccessive trait sinergy between few trait lines lower the build diversity.
Improve sinergy of underused traits (like giving to ranger’s Predator’s Instinct a CD cut and a damage modifier vs crippled foes example) or cut sinergy of overused traits (like they already did to berserker’s Smash Brawler)

Revealed Malice: Being revealed from a stealthed state grants malice and might.
{Requires a marked target.)
Renewing Gaze: Deadeye’s Mark recharges if your mark is defeated. Gain regeneration during this recharge.
Unforgiving: Your first attack stuns if it hits a newly marked target.
Perfectionist: (8sec ICD) Gain boons when malice is at maximum stacks.
Be Quick or Be Killed: Gain quickness when marking a foe. Your power and precision are increased while under this effect.

To me this is a P/P blessing.
Throw in Deadly Arts and Critical Strikes to have a class with 25 might, 400 power and 200 precision when opening from stealth with high damage modifier and quickly unload your way to victory. Who can stop us now?

If you want to repeat the unload process you can use mercy to regain Unforgiving and Be Quick or Be Killed.
Cons: you’ll lose Regeneration from Renewing Gaze after 2 seconds

Me Again. Been running this build for a couple days now and like it a lot. Wanted to get some thoughts on going LB over scepter/mace & focus.

The initial burst is great but I often felt like after it was done I may have downed my first opponent but there will still be targets running around and I have little I can do about it. If I stay in the center of things after blowing most of my CDs I tended to get splattered but disengaging and using Scepter/Focus just felt like a placeholder while I waited for my CDs to recharge.

Switching to LB I feel like I am better able to maintain pressure and when CDs are ready I can jump back in for more burst.

I thought about going Mace/Focus but not sure how I feel about no ranged attacks. But I only tried one or two matches so might have to give this more of a look. Mace seems like it would be effective what with the Mace 2 symbol and Mace 3 aegis. But seems slow.

Would love some thoughts.

Longbow it’s good only when traited, to proc ToF damage. If you trait Heavy Light you lose Hunter’s Fortification wich it’s very helpful.
With longbow you still have a blind to make use of Binding Jeopardy but you can lose your damage coming from Shattered Aegis (240 radius) and without Scepter’s immobilize you’ll have hard time making your foes stay inside symbols.

If you want to play longbow you can try the current meta build
If you seek a costant burst you can try a Greatsword build

With Transfusion the Signet of Undeath isn’t really needed and having to trait spite only for reducing it’s cooldown is a waste..

Best solo survival build?

Hello everyone,

which is the most survival build for a guardian in pve at this moment?

I don’t have yet the full dragonhunter traitline unlocked so I can use a core guardian temporarily build if effective.

I am concerned mainly about the weapons to use, I want the most selfish build possible out there which give me the best solo survivability againts champs or hot hero points and zone in general.

I should go for scepter? Sword? Paired with what? I know torch offers the most dps but maybe not the most defense to survive, so maybe focus or shield? And as swap?

So I would like to receive the best weapons to survive, and the best traits to have ( zeal, valor, honor radiance etc.).

It has to be selfish for personal survivability.

If you kite use a scepter build
If you want to solo champions use mace build
If you want to clear trash mobs use swordsman build

All of the listed build works well with power gear, wich its also the easier to get first.
You should try to get as much might and fury you can get in your open world build without giving up on defense.

Use your defensive weapons (mace, sword, focus, shield) when you can’t survive otherwise, like versus champions, and your offensive one to suppress any danger before can harm you (greatsword, scepter, torch).

Pick the utility skills according to your situations.

Those things have never prevent guardians from kiting mobs.
Sure you can use a warrior with high endurance regeneration and passive healing but you’ll be even slower.

And for a build specific question, I saw close to this build on Metabattle but with Honor instead of Zeal (and mace over scepter). Am I correct in thinking Honor gives it more of a support/defense role while Zeal gives it more damage output? Do you have any thoughts on one or the other for learning players?

Yes, Honor and Mace are for support/defense and works well with healing power while Zeal help you with burst damage.
Scepter offer a good ranged burst option and gives you might while also inflict vulnerbility on the enemy.

Also, what is the pro/con of going Dragon Hunter instead of Virtues?

DH pro/cons Virtues
-You gain traps as utilities
-Your f1 become a CC (pull)
-Your f2 become a mobility skill (leap finisher)
-Your f3 will become a frontal shield that block attacks for 3 seconds
-You sinergize better with Zeal trait line and have more aegis but not boons from virtues activation. Retaliation from virtues not needed thanks to Zeal’s Wrathful Spirits.
-You’ll gain stability and stun break (and many aegis) on cc but not on f3 activation
-You’ll cleanse 1 condition on block (1s CD) but you’ll not cleanse it from your party with f2, no passive regeneration and endurance regeneration.
-You’ll have a better overall damage modifier but not have a 15% virtues CD cut

Two thieves can be devastating. Of course people will insist it can never work and force a thief to swap to a class they are less effective with.

So many losses that way.

two thieves sucks. you sacrifice so much node pressure for a thief who will be sidelined in every encounter.

Depending on team comp 2 (good) thieves can neutralize important team oriented classes (like elementalist or necromancer) letting their team win every fight.

They only have to share a basilisk and open with the stealth combo at the same time.

Double Thief usually work if they do “thieves things”, roaming and +2 together, not with one decapping and one fighting.

You aren’t letting your team 3vs5 if you +2 and send a foe to the respawn every 20 second.

Worth leveling Thief (Daredevil Staff) now ?

replace ToF with wall of reflection + master of consecrations if you need protection vs ranged attacks. Second set at choice, don’t use the spear and if you want to heal place your PoB to make your judgement reach maximum charge at each block and proc it’s powerful effect.

They can be expensive but we can already swap stats on bloodstone back, amulet and rings, we just have to put infusions into normal accessory and buy 2 legendary trinket.

I’ve seen a lot of Reapers have great success in the dueling scene/WvW with hybrid Axe/WH/Staff (Spite/X/Reaper.) But WvW offers greater stat mixing options, so it probably isn’t as strong in sPvP when you’d have to do like Destroyers + Adventurers to get a squishier version of it.

I have tried the destroyers amulet build in PvP and it’s very good when it cones to damage!
But the defense are nearly not existing, so only running a shout build for “Rise!” and Death Magic for toughness gives the build a bit of breath.

With low health pool I was running Curses, Death Magic and Reaper (might stacking only up to 18) with GS Axe/WH, doing well in 1vs1 but without chances in 1vs2.

What can be a good WvW stats mix for it? Celestial/Sinister with reaper’s runes?

I’m not sure what the cool kids use, but I’d imagine a mix of Berserkers and like Trailblazers and Carrion for Condi + Toughness/Vitality depending on what they think they’re going to be engaging. (Or just durability runes instead)

Never Celestial for Reapers though anymore, healing power scales very badly with our healing and is almost wasted stats compared to any other option.

Depend on how many stats you want to boost.

I wouldn’t say that GS has higher survivability than dagger as it’s very subjective to the activity you are doing. For instance there are some things you can solo with a dagger that you wouldn’t be able to with a GS.

If it’s to kite Axe > Dagger
If it’s for close combat GS > Dagger

condi thief has too many cover condis

I don’t know how anyone could defend condi thieves unless they themselves play it and just dont want to see it nerfed. It’s a broken build and OP is right.

I have enjoyed the trolling spree given by the Pulmonary Chocking build but i don’t have cryed when devs nerfed it. It was clearly OP.

In fact if before the build was about only spam interrupt and blind while spinning now it takes a little more skill to play it.

Condi thieves have a much harder time breaking away and disengaging fights

My favourite disengage with S/D it’s Cloak and Dagger + Infiltrator’s Return and it’s not a bad combo. I can disengage when i want and making foes mad, if they waste their cleanse then it’s time to help ensuring the kill with steal combo, otherwise i have just helped my +1 and can run away.

It’s slower than D/P but i feel that I have to stick lesser to fight to give my mates the support they need, so i think it’s balanced.
Luckily the condi thieves i’ve facing on my necro are dumb and don’t los/stealth to prevent condi transfer. If I was ME condi thief vs ME anybuild necro i think that my thief could win 100% of the fights.

Oh and that metabattle build is garbage. It was clearly made by someone looking to make numbers on screen instead of being optimal for the current wvw environment.

Metabattle’s build isn’t bad but clearly rely more on others help. I have posted it cause was a Celestial stats build, not because was the best build around.

Not only does it rely on others help, it also gives no help in return. It is 100% selfish damage dealer build and nothing more. I actually question its ability to even do meaningful damage beyond “rofl I get lots of bags!”.

It’s better for zerg and less for solo roaming, but if roaming with supporter that keep it alive can do it’s job.

In the end survive and kill are the things that count and if ther’s cooperation between party members the build can work.
