Most thieves are just extremely bad. It’s an easy thing to say, but seriously just play thief and challenge ones you see in ranked to a 1v1 and watch what happens. That’s discounting the obvious stuff like them fullcapping 90% of the time
If you mean thieves aren’t supposed to fullcap 90% of the time, I just want to stress:
If we don’t fullcap, people start angrily pinging the map and “asking” why we aren’t fullcapping. Even if there’s 2+ enemies on the point. In fact there could literally be a pure trap guardian sitting on the point with traps loaded and people will demand we somehow 1v1 a direct hard counter and cap it since nobody else knows how to exit mid/kill a revenant/disengage/whatever excuse is being used for needing the thief to carry harder.I’m not saying all bad thieves are caused by the community, but if I’m playing wrong, then it’s directly a symptom of the greater community’s idiocy for misleading me and I’m sure I’m not the only thief dealing with this.
Thieves are always wrong, after all.
(As an aside, I’ve watched top tier videos, but top tier strategies really do not seem apply in solo ranked queue, especially not in low gold, where I am…)

You run decaps, people yell at you for not +1.
You +1, they all leave you facing 2 enemies on your point and yell at you for not decapping.
EVEN IF YOU DECAP ALL match people will still flame you for not decapping which proves my point that majority never look at map. Like ever.
I had teams flaming and yelling at me for not decapping point that was camped by trap guard or a druid all match. They actually expected me to get decap vs a DH. LOOK AT MAP, people!!!!Things like this make me want to record my games just to show what kind of crap you have to put up with as a thief for simply existing.
Lets not mention how you cant pvp as a thief without someone getting on you about decapping or capping
I play my thief sometimes just enjoy fighting for a little bit, I hate it whenever I just want to have fun with my build and I get the “teef tf are you doing fing decap you worthless….”
Like dude this build isn’t even made for decapping, hell you have swiftness 24/7 and move faster why don’t you do it?
Ive ran into a similar situation before
It was on Beta and they had a trap dh that was over watching their home, I got yelled at for not wanting to go on a kamikaze mission, and then when I did go try to decap it (obviously the dh won the fight)

Those are players who don’t have played a single match as a thief. Decapping it’s fine, 1vs1 counter class isn’t.
If your team can’t figure how to play properly with non-meta players (or with classes they don’t play).. its a bit sad.

So to start I would not raid with this but I think I got a cool concept for PvE.
Basicly you would be a Minion Master, very tanky and hard to kill.
Minions gain there power from leveling. so the way I see it you could kinda leave out power since your letting your minions do most of the work.
The healing power can be useful for some life siphon skills, minion on hit heals, wells if you spec for it, Dagger 2 skill, shroud skills that are heal spec’d. condi heal traits
Between toughness, vitality and Rise minions you would be super tanky while building a massive army to do all the damage you need for you.
You can still get some condi damage from Traits that give you condi based on toughness.
So what do you guys think? Obviously I wouldn’t raid with this. But it sounds like it could actually kinda work on Minion Master play style. You would be still locked into Minions only if you want to do damage, but you can also still play supportive too if you want.
Thoughts?
Expensive and underperforming, if you don’t want to die you can just select the tanky traits/utilities without changing gear.

Yes, these trinkets are from living story 3, they are strong but some persons might consider them useless compared to berserker but it is up to you which one you prefer, I just wanted to have more than 19k health.^^
The runes of strength are worth it if you play solo mostly and if you want to keep up 25stacks might. Ferocity is not what makes the difference, 10% more damage while health above 90% is and many prefer 10% more damage.
But this damage-modifier is useless if you drop under 90% health regularly.So, at the end it is up to you.
Ferocity makes the difference and 25 might isn’t hard to keep as a power reaper.
For reaper the rune of cruelty its better than bloodlast cause reapers cap crit chance without any problem
Now, you only get with runes of scholar 100 ferocity, that means 6.67% more crit-damage.
In my opinion it doesn´t have that much impact and I would rather have 45% increased might-duration than 6%-7% more crit-damage.
Furthermore I want to keep up might always.
That means, when I go out of the shroud to reload it, I would like to keep 25stacks might. Higher might-duration is helpful then.Hm, I don´t really understand because there are no runes of bloodlust or cruelty but I suppose you mean the weapon-sigils.

For your might problem when out of shroud it’s an easy task, just keep hitting mobs while they are under 50% health or just change Peril, wich it’s one of the more laughable sigils, for Might.

The Soul Marks trait makes staff the best necro’s weapon where to slot Sigil of Annulment, it can build up life force from 1200 range, have a CC and condi transfer.. it’s not like don’t exists build without staff, but it’s a really good weapon, even for power!
Another dreadful foefire story in platinum.
It was 410-346 in favor of my team, we have 3 cap, 2 people from enemy go lord. I tell my team to just stay and hold the 3cap and we’ll win. It’s no use. 3 of them go back to defend.
My team starts losing the map because I’m the only one trying to defend 3 points vs 3 enemies while our 5th can’t decide what to do and wanders aimlessly in the middle of nowhere.
They somehow kill our lord.
Still not enough score.
Then they kill our mes who went back to “defend”. +5 score, they win.
Told the mes it was a bad idea and should’ve let them have our lord.
He replies “XD”.
Haven’t played since then. Unenjoyable.
If the match ended 474-500.. the mesmer was really bad.
It’s better to have 2 good thieves than make one reroll to a profession he’s not good with.
And it’s better to have 0 thieves instead having one that only take colisseum’s shield, fight off point or only goes mid.
You can use Krait runes if you don’t want to use Food and Nourishment to cap bleeding or Thorns runes if you want to cap poison and bleeding duration with them.

this is one of those buildsDoes this build generally want access to runspeed somewhere? As in, do you then use a Rune with +25% runspeed? Or would you try to add Invocation for WvW situations to add runspeed on energy use?
While Retribution can give you more self survivability (needed to fight on pvp points) Invocation give you mobility and can support better, more useful for WvW.
Invocation while running plus Natural Harmony (alacrity) + Surge of the Mists spam always wins!
The most important thing while fighting vs salvation/ventari is to not eat all the on-heal 240 radius blind and CC right after Energy Expulsion

I assume there’s quite some space for those stat combos in the new expansion. At least I hope so, because going directly to five-stat sets would probably be a bad idea. Some combination of berserker stats with concentration would probably be most interesting for me, especially if (big if …) they go in the right direction with class balance.

If it’s for PvE you should really increase your bleeding’s condition duration and don’t go after shroud’s burst (death perception) but after sustained damage (decimate defenses).
With Target the Weak and Decimate Defenses (and why not, Furious Demise) you shouldn’t have issues with critting in shroud.
Try Greatsword to use Chilling Darkness and Deathly Chill at their maximum potential.
For the auto inflicted conditions just use your corruption’s skill just before your deathly swarm.
Let me preface this with I’m still getting the hang of combos in general. This seems like it would pair great with Chillblains poison field if it was reliable. It seems like that or changing/making our blast finisher Putrid mark cause a bleed with enfeeble via the weapon or from the curses talent weakening shroud.
Any thoughts? Just seems like two neglected skills that could really improve the QoL for necro.
heh, I would like it to be just actually able to hit targets more often. As it is now, due to high mobility of oppnents, + buggy terrain travel handling, + evades, reflects, blocks, dodges, invuln, stab, etc. etc. it has become an almost useless skill.
If I wanna catch someone then I am 100x better off using corrupt boon + RS 2 on them followed by scepter 2 or staff 3 rather then necrotic grasp. its just a waste of utility slot.

Doh, mah bad. I was thinking Spectral Grasp…. I don’t even understand why they named it “grasp”, since it doesn’t grasp anything just causes some damage. Maybe it should, so it lives up to its name a bit.

If you open the panel to see the top stats you’ll not see the pile of corpses, otherwise just click to exit from the match.
On top of that, can we get Soldier and Celestial amulets back? You know, the two that were actually good? Or that Mercenary amulet? I think those stats have never been implemented in PvE either.
Mercenary was a PvP only stats and were removed (maybe they’ll reintroduce it for PvE?), Soldier and Celestial still exists outside of PvP.

(Power/Precision Toughness/Vitality) could not be implemented if not after ponderate thinking it’ll be great to have something like Diviner

This is probably nothing new to most of you but I just found out Spectral Armor can give pretty OP sustain against Condi burst!
In the past I used Spectral Armor as a stun break + LF refill only and thought it was a utility that works against physical damage only with its protection boon.
Having watched the PvP Noscoc use his though, I realized it is not just a stunbreak + means to gain Lifeforce and doesn’t just work against physical damage.
You can use it to soak condi burst damage extremely well if you activate it first then enter shroud immediately after.I’ve been thinking hard about what utilities would work best against a condi Chrono who loads and deny my transfers through invis/blocks/evades/F4 without having to change my entire build to anti-condi.
- I tried Well of Power but it was too slow. Converting one condi per pulse wasn’t fast enough against the loads of condi.
- I tried Plague Signet but good Chronos load and deny your transfers so it wasn’t that useful for opening engages.
- I tried Consume Conditions but again against good Chronos, they will be looking to deny you that heal especially in the opening exchanges.
- I tried “Suffer!”shout and it was decent to clear condi on to the Chrono’s clones but it wasn’t enough condi clearance.
By using Spectral Armor then entering shroud when I got condi loaded, I could survive the burst. It would work very similarly to the Revenant’s Infuse Light that heals based on damage taken. The Shroud remains full for 6 seconds when I activate Spectral Armor and enter shroud after taking a load of condi burst. This would actually outlast some of the Chrono’s initial countermeasures when he tries to deny your transfers like evades or F4 invulnerable etc.
I just tried it against a very skilled Viper Chrono earlier in WvW (wasn’t using Moa though).
Won the first fight. Lost the second one after a close fight due to bad rotation from me as I was still trying to get used to the idea of using Spectral Armor against a Condi enemy lol.If you already know about this, just ignore me.
Super excited to find a good utility against those Condi Chronos and condi any class that knows how to deny our transfers.
If they use Moa though…it would be a different story…much harder to dodge if they do it from invis…I usually save one dodge for when they go invis…then the other dodge for when they try it without invis…which means no dodge for their bursts which I would need to transfer or clear them…and Spectral Armor was incredible to help me sustain through a condi burst!
Try “Nothing Can Save You!” + Plague Signet combo, I find it’s the best combo to deal with chronos, also cause with so many illusions the shout’s CD it’s laughable if traited.
It can cost even more, but if someone want to play pvp/wvw without do pve stuff its one of the best way to get ascended armor.

For the first time I tried to this elite (100% skills and traits unlocked including reaper) but menu won’t let me access this elite nor equip the greatsword. I cannot find where anyone has reported this issue or how to fix it.
have you selected the reaper line in your build?
Shield Bash was also a smart way to interrupt key moves, now it’s just another stun to open bursts.
I hope they’ll make a change to make it istant cast while in Shield Stance, to open new way to fight.
You can try the FTP version of the Symbolic Dragonhunter or the Burst Burning .. or playing a shout support guardian
I have tryed a different version of non-vitality hybrid build but it’s a bit.. squishy.
Adventure and Lynx runes are also good pick.
Okay so, provided that I fight on a node against a mes, which is better to destroy illusions, procession of blades or test of faith? I
ToF it’s better, expecially if the illusions have to cross the border two times to reach you while shattering.
I’ve noticed that very often mesmers don’t let me destroy their illusions as they pop it in my face as soon as I target them
If ToF it’s setted a very good vay to destroy illusions it’s force them to cross the border walking away or pushing them trough with shield’s knockback.
If you don’t play traps your only chance it’s dodge the shatter or cleave the illusions as soon they are created, while next to the mesmer.
All in all I wonder why I have such a hard time with them now. Previous seasons I didn’t encounter any relevant obstacles that would make me write a thread about it to ask for tips.
The last season were available on crit sigils wich have helped power burst, without those sigils classes like necromancer and mesmer have gained survivability.
In PvP conditions are OP only if players can’t cleanse wisely.
When fighting the ways to “reset damage” are via healing (to regain health) and cleansing (to prevent incoming damage).
While the heal gain “better value” as often it’s casted the cleanse gain value on how many stacks and condition type are cleansed.
Now they should increase the life siphon and life steal damage/heal value based on many bleed stack we are “holding”
To me an untraited “Rise!” isn’t so useful as Spectral Armor, wich can solve the stunbreak/life force issue for the builds without soul reaping

For Open Worlding, I would replace Radiance with Honor, swap the Scholar Runes for Pack Runes and drop Bane Signet and Test of Faith for “Retreat!” and Judge’s Intervention. Having some mobility is infinitely more fun than pure DPS, and you’ll still destroy things in under 5 seconds.
For Open World :
don’t waste gold with rune swapping, take 13 silver worth swiftness on kill food , drop retribution trait and use sword for mobility/blind/cleave.I think foods are a waste of money for Open World, and a constant hassle. So are rune sets, on the other hand, but as for myself, I have a separate OW Marauder armor in addition to my fractal/raid Berserker set.
For the ones who only have 1 armor set the food is way better than rune swapping..
But it’s also true that with masteries and the new maps the mobility it’s greatly increased, so the traveling speed shouldn’t be a big problem anymore.
