I opened 750 chances, nothing good.
BTW the 2500g one got sold.
FYI this is the guy who bought 100 or so Scarlet’ Rifles awhile back and has +400kg last I heard
HOW has nobody from A-net commended on this yet!?
they talked about it in the livestream, specifically that they are always looking at the data. Whether or not they see it as an issue is unknown.
I think one reason, why the price went up after last patch, we didnt even consider yet and that is the price of mithril and elder wood.
To craft a rare lvl 80 greatsword, roughly 40% of the crafting costs are needed for those two ressources. And due to the exchange for supply boxes, mithril experienced a price spike of 50-75% right after the patch.
If I was a professional precursor forger, i would have taken a break right after the patch or list my dusk at a higher price to cover the additional crafting/forge costs.
whats the cause of that anyhow?
i mean even with a supply box, shouldnt people use the cheapest material available?
considering taxes of course
1.) Even the cheapest material available will not be the cheapest for long. People will flock to the most efficient material and buy it up to the point that it is on the same level as other materials.
2.) Not all buyers in the market are rational. Thick Leather Section buyers are such an example.

Wasn’t the main problem with Final Rest that Behemoth was always bugged and never spawned? Or did that just happen to be on top of the bugged drop rate?
No – Shadow Behemoth was immediately available at least once after each server restart. How many server restarts have we had since release up until the fix? I reckon 50-100. That’s more than enough runs for at least 1 person to get it and list it on the TP.
The day of the patch several people got Final Rest. Remember that even though the drop rate is very small, if you have hundreds of people completing the same boss it is very likely someone is going to get it.
Thanks to OP the economy is now in threat.
I think someone was manipulating T5 leather. I was 25c and now 20c … I smell conspiracy. Must be that ‘T5 Leather baron’ org I see running around.
Thick Leather Incorporated was bought by Vol Mutual Funds several months back and liquidated all assets before the price drop.
However, Vol Mutual Funds believes Thick Leather market will be a steady investment option in a few months.
I’ll never play hardcore mode because you could be the best player in the world and can never die by your own hand, but the moment you DC because of internet issues or server side issues, you are screwed to the bone.
I could accept dying by my own stupidity, but not to anything else.
Yes it’s obviously bugged. As I said earlier last week, Anet ‘confirmed’ that the recipe was working as intended.
But the last time Anet ‘confirmed’ an item was working as intended was Final Rest. And one day after a patch released the drop rate was fixed (unannounced) and we started seeing Final Rests popping up.
In all honesty, the drop rate probably IS working as intended, but the coding that allows it to drop may be bugged.
For example, maybe the drop rate is 1.5% in their loot table but it won’t even give a chance at that roll because it only worked on the first few gamblet chances immediately after a patch.
but megaservers~
On the livestream they said that Crystal Reid was the one who changed the Pavillion from a lootfest to what we have now. She said she wanted more coordination in the game like we had with Marionette.
Look, I loved the Marionette, but at least that was reasonable rewarding, even if you failed.
This right here is nothing close to Marionette, and it’s a shame they had to replace content (coordination instead of farming) rather than having it supplement it.
They were asked about the recipe on the livestream.
They said that they are going to look at it.
Take it for what you want, but I still don’t know what people have these super high buy orders.
BTW I haven’t been paying attention to WvW for awhile…what place is BG expected to finish in?
I can’t say it or else I’ll get banned once again ;_;
Wow someone really likes to get attention.
?_?
sigh
Maybe I’ll go try that I suppose
Do yourself a favor and do it the proper way, it’s really not that hard.
Your respective class subforum probably has a thread dedicated to beating her.65 tries later….
Yeah… not that hard. No, I just suck. Thanks.
What part are you struggling at? There are two phases. If you can get to the 2nd phase without screwing up in the 1st (i.e. not missing any orbs) you can lootstick her to death on a guardian.
Yes I have got kicked out before several times, always as soon as I enter the ring.
However, I always end up getting 2 free gauntlet chances, but that doesn’t help since I enter with 5 gambits.
I can’t say it or else I’ll get banned once again ;_;
Let me give you a history of all farming since the start of release. and what happened to each one
Plinx (Karma farm) – Nerfed after a few months by increasing respawn time
Shelt/Pen (loot/karma) – Nerfed 6-8 months after release, respawn time time increased as well as removing loot from spider spawnlings. Nerfed again in the champion scaling update
Fish heads (loot) – Nerfed after 1 month by limiting loot dropped from the grubs
Lyssa waypont farm (loot) – Nerfed after <1 month. Operated along the lines of being an exploit, so IMO it was deserved.
Anchorage ember farm (loot) – Nerfed after 1 month by introducing a timer to the event. (although the capability to farm this one was available for longer since the champ update, it was discovered late)
Skelk – Southwest WP in Southsun had a high density of skelk that could be farmed for bloods. Density nerfed.
Dolyak Escort – nerfed the frequency of the event
FSG – nerfed by turning Champions into Dynamic Event Champs
Queensdale – nerfed by turning Champions into Veterans. A well deserved fix, however they should have ‘moved’ it into other higher level zones.
Grenth farming – nerfed through the introduction of Megaservers
Melandru 2nd beacon – same as above
Angaria – same as above, but also nerfed by removing all mobs
So that brings us to the current day. What farming is available now? The options are small and ineffective. Off the top of my head:
-Karka farming – the price of karka shells however have been halved, so it’s not as efficient
-Corpse farming – lots of mobs but a long respawn time that has to be completed, so it’s not efficient at all
-EOTM – only good for karma AFAIK. Loot is negligible
There are other champ farms that I know of, but they shall remain private.
For all those people who are putting up +1000G buy orders, you guys are going to be hit hard and waste money. All it takes is Anet to do a quick hotfix or even one patch to adjust the price. When Final Rest was fixed, the first sell listings were in the 3-4 figures and dropped in less than a day to 2 figures.
The same will happen to this recipe when Anet fixes it, which I’m confident will happen.
Unless you play 24/7 and can immediately remove your listing once the patch notes hit, I suggest to use that 1000g elsewhere.
Anet will never let an item this exclusive rise to outrageous prices unless they gave everyone a fair chance at acquiring them. Right now the chance is no where near fair, so they will adjust that.
It’s a lot easier to kill Liadri now due to some ‘exploits’ involving food. It also doesn’t help that people have better stats now with ascended gear.
Also, all Norn players can easily defeat Liadri due to the Bear form trick.
i doubt people would sell them at 1150g…. after the events over it will be the rarest item in game, someone could probably sell for 10k or even more
If I had the recipe I would sell it now. Anet will never make an item that rare, especially with the outrage that would follow.
I got it from the forge…spent about 400g in materials, which was about 800 greatswords (got it at around 700 greatswords)
Last week I spent a bit more than that and I got two dawns, but that was before the price hike
I feel like I should stop gambling since my luck is going to go out and I have more than enough gold…but I need MORE!
Welp I got a Dusk yesterday (yay RNG streaking!)
Immediately listed it for 1570 and it sold over night.
Thank you whoever decided to spike up these prices
I totally understand the economics in what is going on here. Someone’s willing to pay an absurd amount of gold for their precursor now, so the item is valued there. Sure, sounds great.
My contempt is with the fact that there are only two ways to get these blasted things. I RNG it from a random drop, or I RNG it from the Mystic Forge. That’s it. Not even considering how this is about the least enthralling way to develop a legendary possible, the fact that there is no way to actually “make progress” on your precursor short of just grinding out gold is absurd. It is nigh time we get precursor building, and the recent up-shift in prices only makes that more pertinent. Seriously, that’s what John Smith’s takeaway from these topics should be.
or you can just buy from the TP.
Even if they added precursor hunt, they never said it’s going to take less effort than grinding 1200 gold.
For instance, when I made Incinerator, I went out and collected that stack of Ghost Peppers myself. Why? Because now I can look back on helping a bunch of randoms in Orr out and making some friends along the way and say that was a worthy investment of time. Looking back on a gold grind is nowhere near as sentimental.
Maybe because you entered that gold grind with the mindset that you find it a chore?
I was predominantly a farmer, and I met many other like-minded farmers that I still talk to this day. My original guild I joined because we had other people who liked to farm shelt/pen day after day.
Experiences vary. You may find it not nearly as sentimental but I enjoy the relaxing, brain dead farming while I talk to friends about other stuff.
Sure, and I enjoy it sometimes too! Maybe the precursor crafting can have a 250 Icy Runestone requirement. I certainly think that’s a good idea! There should be a straight gold component to doing it, but do you honestly think farming that gold like that for 1200 gold straight is ideal? Do you think that says something about your experiences in-game? Your ability to master the game? Why can’t gold only be a single component in a grander design? Farm for some parts of it, and maybe some others require some mastery of the game elsewhere, and so forth. Furthermore, you could still farm all the gold for the components if you wanted. That’s important because it enables you to do whatever you want, but having materials like “Iron Ore” or “Orichalcum Ore” or “Spiritwood Plank” give people milestones to work toward that they can obtain either with straight gold or with harvesting. This gives people the choice to truly play how they want and actually get somewhere on their precursor. Of course people could also still just buy them outright on the TP too if they want!
I think it’s fair to have components of the legendary quest to be strictly gold. The two components that make up for this are the precursor and icy runestones. And for the most part, these items were cheap until recently because of market factors.
Meanwhile we have other components that are collect quests, such as the t6 gifts and weapon-specific gifts
Finally we have the luck aspect, involving clovers (and precursors again if you wish to go that route)
I think precursors are in everyone’s head because it’s just one item and it’s insanely expensive. But when you consider the costs of globs/T6 mats, it’s just as expensive but not many people are outraged about it because it’s spread out over many components.
I totally understand the economics in what is going on here. Someone’s willing to pay an absurd amount of gold for their precursor now, so the item is valued there. Sure, sounds great.

What did you guys exactly expect for your shards? Precursor? Free exotics? A bag of 10 T6 mats?
I’m 100% confident the drop rate is bugged.
Anet came out and investigated that the drop rate wasn’t bugged. But surely you all remember the Final Rest fiasco?
The fact that there has only been at least 1 drop so far just shows how are it is. Or it may also show that so few people are playing this update? I dunno..
The market is player driven and the value of an item is set by the players, not Anet. They set a minimum value (vendor price) to most items, but the maximum value is whatever any player is willing to pay.
Yes, the market is player driven, but the supply is manipulated by ANet through various means. Saying a 10g item is worth 1000g because people will pay that for doesn’t make it worth 1000g. It points to a supply problem and this IS controlled by ANet.
Manipulated by what? Going into their database and saying that it should have a drop rate of 0.025%?
What if they suddenly increased it to 20%? Would you start to say that Anet is ‘manipulating’ the price, considering that is now conveniently cheap for you to buy?
Anet can no longer use the “we’re working on China” excuse since it was said most/all of the devs have returned from China. And the fact that this silence has been going on ever since the feature patch…
Blew about 3200 tokens (I don’t know how many chests that is, but at least 1200)
Not a single skin.
How do people even necro 11 month old threads?
This site has a terrible search algorithm.
The only solution is to keep getting more money until you’re the one throwing the biggest pile of money at it.
The problem is that prices are rising faster than most people can make money. Unless you buy gems (ANet’s preferred method, of course), which is bad for the economy, grind your life away, which ANet says they don’t want you to do, or play the TP, which is also bad for the economy and just another form of grind…just more boring.
But “most people” aren’t interested in Dusk and they are not part of the demand equation. The fact that the Dusk is rising in price both through buy/sell listings shows that the demand market for Dusk is willing to pay that amount.
For example, I strive to one day be able to drive a Bentley Continental, but I’m only willing to pay $2000 for it. Should I be involved in the demand equation for this item? Absolutely not, as I’m no where close to the MRSP tag.
Just out of curiosity: Are you saying that you think a median transaction price of 1157g for dusk is acceptable?
Yes. That is the short answer. It isn’t about being acceptable or not sadly. It’s about what players will pay. According to his charts shown here players are buying them just fine. While I don’t agree with it many apparently think it’s acceptable.
A better question is do they think it’s acceptable or are they buying out of fear (Or banking on the fact) that it will keep rising out of control? These are entirely different things. If they think it’s acceptable then the market is working, if they’re buying out of fear, or more likely, looking to flip for profit, then the market is broken. My personally opinion is that a majority of these are slatted for flipping. Of those 58 dusks that sold, how many of them were the same item? How many distinct items? Makes a huge difference if there were 58 distinct items or if there were 8 that moved hands multiple times.
Just because people are buying, doesn’t mean the market is working properly.
Even if it was the same item being flipped multiple times, that’s good for the economy, especially for an item that expensive.
Not if the sole purpose is to artificially inflate the price.
Demand is demand. Whether you buy something because you
1.) want to use it immediately
2.) want to use it eventually and hedge against an increase in price
3.) see it as a good investment
does not matter. If you artificially attempt to raise a price at x time, then at x+1 time another person is willing to pay 5% more (and gets sold), then that new price is the equilibrium and shows that the price was undervalued.
On the opposite spectrum, if at x+1 time you were only willing to pay 10% less (and gets sold), then that’s the new price and the price was actually overvalued.

Why isn’kitten If you are a seller of Dusk, and you have two buyers, who would you sell it? The one with the lowest offer? If someone is willing to pay 1157g for a Dusk, then that’s what the market price is at that moment.
…how about just buy the Favor? The price is low enough to indicate the drop chance is reasonable.
You’re not forced to choose only one reward. You don’t deserve it since you don’t have the token.
I’m confused. The price is low enough to indicate the drop chance is reasonable. what is considered “low price”? because I’m not sure if you realised or not but you need BOTH of the PAVILION and BAZAAR tickets to make the FESTIVAL ticket. At the moment placing buy orders is around 15g+8g. That’s 23g for the ticket to buy a skin (not counting additional gold for the different skin).
Once again newer players get the short stick.
And we’re only considering one weapon skin. Multiple that by a few other skins you want and that can easily be 100g+
Good luck new players.
The patch came out a few days ago, so there simply isn’t enough supply to go around to suppress the price. It can be even cheaper.
Not to mention you have weeks to complete this. No one is forcing you to buy now.
If you can’t make 30g in a couple of weeks, then you are a minority and better off just playing the game and hoping you get it.
I got both as soon as I found out that Favors could be bought. If not I would have got the tonic.
All mini’s are worthless except for Liadri.
Yes, it’s been like this for select items. Even high velocity items like Iron Ore had this problem. Meanwhile an even higher velocity item in Thick Leathers reported prices correctly.
John Smith destroys the naysayers once again.
Will John Smith ever be wrong?
This player concludes..no.
I just call people bookahs. It’s a derogatory racial term but it’s accepted here.
Here is my per usual market manipulation ploy – Butter, lots of Butter will be needed for cooking 500. BUYITNAOWPLOX! KTHXBAI!
Thanks to my ongoing and extensive bag drop rate research, I’ve managed to acquire an excessive amount of butter. I honestly hope you are right because I can’t keep this butter on ice forever!
Store it in your TP pick-up tab.
This guarantees that it will not spoil, however I cannot guarantee that it will not melt.
Thankfully, dried goods like Thick Leather and Quartz Crystals are suitable
…how about just buy the Favor? The price is low enough to indicate the drop chance is reasonable.
You’re not forced to choose only one reward. You don’t deserve it since you don’t have the token.
Too bad you can’t use it while interacting with the environment (i.e. bank).
Gotta open bank and then use tonic.
400-something gold profit is still nothing to sneeze at, ya know.
I was waiting for my 1400g profit but had to settle with 400g
The market will adjust for Dusk. The price right now is artificially inflated
That being said, all precursors are certainly higher in price post-patch due to various reasons
I’m devastated. ;[
I just finished selling all my Thick Leather. And the grand total of selling everything? 500g.
So either of these things happened:
1.) I misremembered my investments of Thick Leather – instead of 400g invested, I only invested 130g
2.) There is an artificial limit to how many items can be stored in the TP. Once you reach this limit, items are deleted.
I swear I invested 400g…but this was many, many months ago, and it’s possible I mixed up my silver ore investments of 400g with Thick Leather.
I’am a sad panda.
Don’t fret. If the drop chance is too rare, Anet will adjust it.
They’re from Total Makeover Kits.
