Okay, I’m confused. How do people seem to know how much content we’re getting when the expansion isn’t even out?
I’ve not been in any of the Beta’s for HoT, but I can’t see them giving access to every single zone anyways.
Nobody does know. That’s kind of the biggest issue. There’s no transparency about what the $50-$100 is buying. Based on what has been shown thus far, I can judge that what we’ve seen is not worth the cost to me. And the lack of a release date is really off-putting.
The OP compared what we know now with what WoW players know in advance about their expansions. As a veteran WoW player, I call shenanigans. It is absolutely incorrect to suggest that we know even a fraction of what WoW players would know only months before the anticipated release date.
They need to release a list of all the content in the expansion. Honestly, I think the new content looks great, but in proportion to the full game 50$ seems a lot. I still didn’t hesitate to pre-order it, there is no way I am skipping this new content.
I thought this too, but for what it’s worth, the gain was still far greater than the loss here.
lol, not sure about that. An ele wil get completly wrecked in a 1v1 agains’t mesmers, thieves or engies after this patch.
Their buff is so much substantial than our aura stuff. And our damage got nerfed, their damage got buffed.

Problem is that:
1- A new player gets the expansion + the full game + many character slots for 50$
2- a veteran player gets the expansion for 50$, without the full game and without the character slots
It’s just completely unfair to make a new account a better deal than upgrading an existing account. It makes no sense at all.
They should have proposed:
Full game 30$
Expansion: 30$ (with 2 new character slots)
Full game + Expansion 50$ (10$ rebate for new players)
Scrap the ultimate and deluxe version, put that stuff on the gem store.

Current issues:
Pricing: too high. It’s the price of a full game but only 1 pvp map, 3 PvE zones and 1 wvw map have been announced. And some people suggested that even those that do not pay get access to the competitive content.
No character slot for 50$… seems like a bad joke. Like seriously, give 1 at 50$ and 3 at 75$-100$
It is still really unclear what we get for that price. Will people that don’t buy it get to participate in the guild halls? Because that would be unfair to those who paid.
If I would have been in the place of Anet I would have made it buy-able with gems, 2800 gems or something, 35$. This way everyone would have bought it.
Anyway I got it, but it’s really expensive, no question about it.
They just need to make it ground target-able to make it somewhat useful.
Hey but Engies get AoE Moa, that’s some intense game balancing there.
Ya that is great, if there wyas to keep track of the statistics and scores it would be even better:
Number of game against a specific guild, win and loses
GvG player rosters and statistics (death, stomps, avg dps, etc)
Considering HoT is the price of a full game people will be expecting the content equivalent of a full game. It’s as simple as that.
Anet better deliver because a single pvp map does not equal the pvp content expected of a full game. That said, I paid for it already, I just hope Anet’s release is going to justify the price tag.
GW2 has a better fighting system but ESO will keep you busy for a good 6 months.
Honestly at that price I almost regret pre-ordering it. They better deliver.

It’s kind of like buying a LEGO bat-mobile set and the batman legoman being sold separately. lol.
So basically if you want to really play the expansion then it’s 60$. Well at least it’s less than 74$. I play it enough to be worth the price, there is not many good MMO on Mac.

The price is the price, it is expensive, specially for not having a character slot.
I already bought the standard version (would never pay more than 50$ for an expansion, but the gvg possibilities in the guild halls are something I wanted).
However having to delete a character to roll a revenant is really not generous on their part, specially for that price. It feels like they didn’t have enough features for the ultimate and deluxe versions, so they left the character slot out of the standard version.
Most ele will be raging the day of the patch when they realize both our survivability and damage was nerfed. Even what looks like buffs are to compensate for something that was removed.
Maybe I’m seeing this the wrong way, but our buffs cant compare to Engi, ranger and mesmers buffs.
Anet is taking the road of “change everything, even if it’s not broken and is the result of years of fine-tuning”. At the same time, they aren’t fixing what is totally broken (elementalist elites…)
I think it will be a mess for many months, and gradually they’ll have to rebalance all of it again more like what it used to be when the game was launched.
I have a bigger problem with stuff like freaking AoE Moa and 1500 range pewpew that keeps getting buffed.
Ya fresh air ele nerfed by 30%. It’s an epic fail at balance, I don’t think you’ll see any of those anymore sadly
Build diversity down the mystic toilet.
Nobody is going to cry, that new skill was just the worse.
Hopefully you can do more than dress up in the new guild halls, else the CDI will have been all for nothing.
This is going mess up the market on all skill point crafting. Sounds like a bad idea to change such a core system.
Hehe yes.. Keep complaining about Engis.
We’ll just kindly overlook the rain of glory that showered Mesmers.
Unlike Engis mesmers needed some buffs to stay in line vs thiefs. I still dont see why engis are complaining they are getting some really strong buff and yet complain of the few tweaks they got.
No. Mes dindt needed any buffs. He was already strong. Thief needed a nerf as he push out all zerk builds. Instead………lets say the faceroll getting real.
I agree but since they buffed thief HAVE to do the same to the mes or its going to be more of a hard counter to mesmers.
Well, now you’ll have thieves still wrecking mesmers and mesmers gonna wreck every other zerker class. Good balance!
Mesmer was never able to wreck every other zerker class to begin with. Medi guard, fresh air ele and GS warriors all have either upper hand or roughly equal with mesmers. The only reason teams take mesmer is because of portal not because it trashes all other zerker spec.
that’s not true…every single build you listed, mesmer have a upper hand, except maybe medi guard
A fresh air ele can destroy a mesmer faster than a thief can IF he gets the upper hand in the fight.
not anymore, fresh air got nerfed bad.
Engi, thief and ranger got buffed a lot.
Again all that squishy classes have to stay alive is dodge. They could have nerfed heavy classed only, instead of making a nerf that affect mostly light armor classes.
Overall the changes are interesting, but we will have to see for class balance. Engineer and Ranger buffs seems excessive.
I’m only dissapointed about one thing: You didn’t improve elementalist elites, these skills are completly terrible yet they are supposed to be elites.
We’re getting a survival buff but our damage is getting nerfed (bleed and burn nerfs to allow condi stacking).
There is also a celestial nerf incoming, and our elites are still useless.
The ranger longbow buff was overdone by about 15-20%, but until Anet realize that for themselves all we can do is complain and be told to dodge, even if our classes take 3 times more effort to do 75% of the same damage.
Personally I want to see competitive gameplay of a new GvG game mode. PvP is too small for my taste and WvW is too unbalanced due to population differences, and the matchups are too long as well for some serious watchable competition.
Now with ESPN starting an ESport channel I expect Anet to be at the top of their game and deliver a new competitive game mode with something like 10v10.
Hopefully it’s not just pretty to look at but there is something new to do in the new LA.
D/D ele is now garbage, i hardly even play it anymore in WvW and i hardly see anyone else play it. So many undeserved nerfs.
As someone who was used to play d/d in the good old WvW days I find d/d today to be completely unrewarding if not borderline unplayable in large scale fights. Sad because it’s an entire play style that has disappeared because of unjustifiable nerfs.
Gust needs a serious buff on Staff, that skill like never hit target. it needs to be like focus 5.
You don’t need mounts when there is a waypoint at every corner.
Same issue. Really annoying.
If they had build templates they could reduce the waiting time to 30 seconds instead of 1:30 before a match.
Yeah it’s a new bug. Does it all the time on Mac.
Hopefully arenanet will listen to its community and not go through this this specific change, all else in what the discussed there is fine, nice refreshing changes but this bit towards cripple and chill I hope they do not go forward with.
You mean NOT listen to the highly vocal tiny minority on the forums?
FYI, immobilization was the counterplay to gap closer skills. Cant use those skills when you’re locked from moving at all.
Let me guess, Thief or Warrior main.
Necro mains are almost universally against this change. Mesmers and Eles are probably ambivalent, Engineers, Guardians, and Rangers likely find it fair, and Thieves and Warrior mains seem to think it’s a fantastic idea.
Unsurprisingly, this lines up with how good or bad this change is to the particular profession. Warriors have no chills and few cripples, but tons of dashes/leaps. Of course they want this change to go through! Necros, meanwhile, rely on cripples and chill to have any hope of keeping someone in combat with them and have no dashes or leaps themselves. This change is harsh, harsh nerf to the profession.
It’s a nerf to necro and eles. Omitting again the fact that chill affects elementalists twice more than other classes they are reducing it’s effect on other classes like warriors, that have twice bigger health pool and do as much damage. It’s a recipe for a balance disaster.
A few ticks from dead last night in PvP. Cripped and ran from a war. His leap fell short. Buying me just enough time for health to come off CD. Turned around and took him out. This was AMAZING. now… I’ll just die. And he won’t /S “wow, nice move. GG”
He also managed to get away from me just fine 1-2 times in the same match by just waiting for me to crip at the wrong time.
THIS. Perfect example of why it’s a bad idea to nerf cripple.
Every patch day it’s like they add a new mac crash. I just got a “Coherent crash”, another new crash I never got before.
Seriously if they re-balance of all the skills and leave the elementalists elites in the poor state they are in it’s going to be worth a quadruple face palm.
I feel very sorry for your loss. I hope Anet will implement something in his memory.
don’t think d/d will be nerfed (if they get elem attune right). scepter buffs are always welcome. glyphs will be eternal trash and i also don’t believe in tornado buffs.
Air is getting nerfed to the ground, so Scepter is not getting a buff at all.
All i can say is “sigh”
I know. It’s depressing that anet will never actually make anything this decent.
Like the “patch notes” we’ve gotten that fixed all elementalist issues and were deleted in the following hours? I was so excited reading those at work, specially those that added initiative.
Resistance is 100% condition damage reduction. Much more potent than 33% (also, thieves and warriors get access off the top of my head, so it’s not revenant only).
Also, vitality becomes that much more important. Shaman, magi, carrion, sentinel, valkyrie, all that.
Like someone else already mentioned, retal procs on attacks, conditions are applied by attacks.
Just because one thing changes didn’t mean you’re owed “compensation”
Maybe google the definition of compensation. This would be balancing.
As for resistance. 1 skill granting resistance for a few seconds isnt much for counter play. I am willing to bet 100$ that if the new condi changes are released exactly how they described it will be nerfed/changed within 2 weeks.
I can already see the new WvW meta: zerg focusing single target player. Gonna be epically frustrating. Once more, like the stability changes, it favors the larger groups to the sacrifice of the out-manned team.
About a condi limiter? “Limits the amount of stacks of each condis on you to 25”…
Considering the time it takes to make a legendary (map completion and crafting) I do not think that the profit margin is worth it.
Immobilize stacking was an epic fail. This is going to be an epic fail as well unless they have a rabbit in their hat to rebalance things (example: revert the previous mobility nerfs to light classes, like RTL. or add slow as well as chill to the elementalist water and earth lines).
While I agree with most of you, I don’t think there’s any hope. They nerfed the class with the least everything and longer CDs with punishing disengagement and chill effect, while classes with better defensive mechanism (active & passive) are left untouched. I can’t see the logic behind.
The elementalist feels less and less rewarding for the effort it requires to play well.
The class had it’s golden age at release, and then it got nerfed into oblivion.
It’s frustrating, when you just have to take out your ranger and roll your face on the keyboard to do more damage and aoe immob. Or take out your warrior, and do as much damage with twice more health and 2 invuls.
Anyway, unless they plan on really buffing the elementalist in consideration to the other classes condi buffs I’m dropping the class for Revenant or Reaper, and I’m not the only one.
Will the mac version finally get out of beta with HoT?
The Mac cider client is really unstable atm and crashes all the time in large boss fights or WvW zergs fights.
Mount Maelstrom.
Chill and Cripple at the only conditions an ele has to keep an enemy in their d/d radius. This is just another buff to ranger, thiefs and wariors that ends up being a nerf to classes relying on cripple and chill, mostly necros and eles. I’m totally against it, really bad idea.
Hopefully they won’t only be pretty but they’ll have some GvG or Dueling integrated with some deeper community gameplay features.
Unless Anet backs off these changes the competitive aspect of this game is going to become pretty frustrating. Class balance is apparently going to get flushed down the mystic forge.
in wvw roaming thieves and mesmer completely dominate and for 1v1 go to angz channel and see how thief (and mesmer) dominate there as well…not saying others can’t ever win…but yea thieves
Yes chill and cripple were ways to “guess” where a thief can be when hitting blindly in air. Now they are just going to Heartseek away and shadowstep back in.
