Elementalists and new spec system

One of the best thing that could be done to a more offensive oriented Elementalist is to give the Staff some more faster and reliable auto attacks.

Chain Lightning.
No longer a projectile. Instant cast like the mesmer GS that will do the 3 bounces as before (Think WoW Shaman Chain Lightning)

Fireball.
Make it a straight liner that is much faster. Keep the AOE (Add 20% blast finisher Why not? finisher)

Water Bolt.
Make it a small cone (this one might be too radical) like the Guardian staff auto. This one would deal a minimal amount of damage, but would heal by a small amount in the area.

Stoning.
Make it shoot two stones (like the warrior longbow attack). Give the the old fireball projectile behavior ( Angled shot that goes to a medium speed.) First stone applies cripple for 1 sec, Second stone applies weakness for 3 seconds (like before). (20% projectile finisher instead of 100%, a lil nerf here)

Fireball damage would then need to be nerfed

I wouldn’t worry about that, when it comes to nerfing the ele they are fast on the trigger. I’m still angry about the mist form dual nerf (chill trait removed and then utility-healing removed) and the ride the lightning total nerf and glitching. Then the divinity runes nerf was a huge blow, then the nerf to air with the crit changes.

Seems we’re getting there, there is not much left going for this boring BL map.

Can you imagine as a PvP/WvW/GvG player how annoying it is to do map completion every time you need a legendary? Every time I tell myself: never again! But then there is nothing else to do than make legendaries until the expansion is out.

Dude the ele has Tornado, it throws bolts and stuff… You can even press 3 keys while in tornado form to totally destroy your opponent in just a few minutes.

i think ranger’s skills themselves are ok the only fix ranger needs is having their maximum range being actual 1500 and not 2000 range .

it is surprising engineer turrets got nerfed for less when they did much less and took 2 whole traitline bars and 3 utility slots

If they do nerf the ranger eventually it will be, as with the engi, another time that they nerf something they buffed earlier for no reasons.

Note that this happened to the ele before in the opposite direction, they had to buff things that they nerfed to the ground and people stop using.

Hey guys,

So I’m getting my engineer to 80 then diving into an elementalist. Class looks very fun to play!

Really I’m just after any advice or tips and tricks you have please! So far I know dd for PvP and staff for pve. Ill probably hate levelling as I’m used to levelling on my ranger which is a doddle. But again any tips for levelling also?

which class do you think has the best appeal in equipment? I checked out metabattle and the “rotation” seems ok but a little confusing. The 4 attunements seems worrying as it seems like a lot to do but I’ve no idea if I need to swap often etc etc

also roaming, are we viable? Solo queue PvP, pug dungeons and fractals, how are we?

Just some tips:

- You need to change attunements all the time because of the high cooldowns on our skills, the best is to end in Air because lightning whip is your best auto-attack.

- Practice your combos on still targets (golems) and make sure you master them, for example:
Earth 4,3,5 (water 4 while in churning earth) Lightning flash to target, water 3, etc.

- keep the cc pressure rotation, if your opponent isn’t knockdowned he should be chilled or stunned

- do not waste 2 knockdowns in a row unless a friend is doing the dps, for example after Air 5 do not go to earth 4, but go to fire 3-5 then to earth 4

- make sure to use fire 3 at 900 range so that your fire 5 land on target

- learn your opponent classes animations, squishy classes have to dodge damage more

Well to be fair, it also gave far more advantage to the stacked server…

They can change what the orb does… I’m just saying that a lot of people like the CTF mechanic. They can just make it that when you capture the orb it gives you 10 points and it takes 15-30 min to respawn again.

Just to clarifying a few points, since there seems to be some confusion. On Borderlands the 3 capturable waypoints are at Garrison, SE Tower and SW Tower. Garrison is for the home team and then each of the invading teams gets a waypoint at their closest tower. These waypoints can be contested as normal. We’ve considered home team waypoints for the Bay/Hills keeps too, but that’s probably too strong. Keep supply depot max goes up to 1100 at T3, not 500.

I wish you guys would bring back the ORB mechanic in the borderlands map. The CTF style of play was really intense and since it’s gone the borderland maps have never been as fun. Back then some players were hacking but you probably have fixed that by now. In a forum post you guys said it would be back.

The Ruins area should do something else than give a stat bonus, right now everyone ignores. Also the “capture 3 points” objective is just not fun.

I’m mostly happy for announced trait changes, but one thing bothers me. Trait lines will no longer have attributes, and I know that the base stats of our characters will be raised from 926 to 1000, but I think that will be good and O.K. only for people whose armor/weapons attributes are the same as attributes from trait lines now.

What about those (including me) who have armor/wepaons with one set of attributes (let’s say berserker) and for traits they maxed lines with toughness or vitality or any different attributes? Those will have -300 toughness or whatever after changes (not exactly -300 considering 926>1000 overall stats boost).

I mean that I’m affraid there will be no compensation for so many points from DIFFERENT attributes than player’s armor/weapons. As an example I will focus on my thief. Link to my current build is at the end of my post. My build isn’t a standard one, but that’s how I like it. Anyway, as you can notice, most of my armor/weapons are berserker and for traits I went for full Shadow Arts line which (except needed traits) gives me +300 toughness and healing because I never wanted to go full glass cannon.

Assuming announced traits that I’m interested in won’t change, I will yet again go for Shadow Arts, Deadly Arts and Trickery, as I highly rely on stealth and stealing. But after changes, sticking to those lines won’t give me back any toughness and healing etc. except base boost (which won’t be +300) and I will automatically become a glass cannon with no additional toughness because of the removal of trait lines’ attributes.

This saddens me and so I have two questions. First, what do you guys think about such situations? I bet not everyone are running set and traits with the same attributes. And the second question – does Anet plan to give players single use possibility of changing stats of already aquired weapons and armor (equipped and laying in the inventory/bank) like it was done after removing magic find from attributes? Crafting half of ascended equipment again with different attributes not to become a glass cannon (or any other single-attributes-set) would be terrible.

I think they want everyone to have to re-gear.
If everyone has to re-gear:
1- It will stretch the time until the expansion
2- All the hardcore people that are impatient (like me) will buy gems to get it done faster if they don’t have the gold

A lot of things have to be answered:
- What happens to boon and condi duration?
- What about classes like eles, that run berserker gear and defensive trait lines, will they lose the survivability they had?
- No more build variety with 4-5 trait lines?
- What about useless traits (before useless traits still gave you a stats boost, but now they are just useless)

Applied fortitude and Applied Strength are the only WvW masteries that actually did something. This is another massive fail to remove the only things that were slightly rewarding for playing WvW a long time.

You should at least unlock for us unique WvW armor skins at each rank tiers (Silver/Gold/Platinum) to compensate the fact that WvW players make 50 times less gold than PvE players.

Personally I am disappointment about that blog post. It seems the have nothing new to propose and are just removing features.

I already have hundreds of unused points and everything maxed out. To be honest Applied Strength and fortitude were the ONLY perks that felt rewarding and cared about.

You can’t have it both ways: You can’t have a system that rewards players that play for a long time and at the same time make it rewarding enough so that new players want to progress. By flattening out everything it’s just going to get boring because almost nobody cares about arrowcart recharge, but everyone cares about having 1% extra hp.

So: Nothing new to propose, repackaging of old upgrades, nerfs to character boons and buffs to siege, no PPt system improvement, no server population improvements, no improved transfer system and no Area of Effect cap increase. The only good thing there seems to be the art in the screenshots.

Get rid of bloodlust again while youre at it. Kthnx

Why not they got rid of the Orb which was the mechanic that made the borderlands work. Seems everything they add something to the gameplay they are so afraid it will impact the game balance that they remove it eventually… yet they keep the servers system completely unbalanced.

Man, they must be so understaffed. Like, that’s the only possible explanation. No pavillion, no zephyr whatever, no sab, nothing till HoT because their entire forces are busy on the xpac. Nothing to play ‘til it comes out. They wouldn’t even be new content! And anet can’t spare any workforce to reintroduce them and keep the ravaging masses entertained.
This tells me that they’re struggling. A lot.
/shrug their loss, I wont’ buy another infinite continue scam or any similar stuff.

Put yourself in the shoes of the management:
- Game is out, you make the most revenues the first year
- afterwards you make even more millions selling gem store items —> move a large part of the team to cosmetic outfits and redesign the game for new players, keep a few on the living story
- must start preparation for next game at least 3 years ahead and build the engine, dedicate a large part of the team for that future project, make a small expansion with the remaining team (and perhaps more small expansion in the future)

That said, in a situation like this on 300 employees it’s easy to imagine that they have something like:
150 working on assets for the next game
50 doing maintenance, fixing bugs and customer support
50 managing the teams
50 doing the expansion, the gem content, and everything related to the content of GW2

I could be totally wrong, but this is what I think is going and why even something as obvious as putting SAB back (without adding new content) seems completely impossible: They probably just don’t have any margin left to do anything outside of the job that needs to be done for HoT.

Basically there is nobody at Anet to answer our request with actual results.

Yes it does seem like a joke, most of my friends agree that it’s broken and so do I (and I have a ranger, I played with it)

If you compare it to range dps of staff-eles autoattack for example they do over 5 times the average damage per second and it’s even worse if you compile the stats with other attunements than fire.

On Mac the game crashes everytime you quit with a Model Leak error. It’s been like this for many months and I find it’s starting to get quite annoying.

The mac cider port will give you terrible performance at anything above 1080p. It’s probably using about 5% of your computer power.

Go down to 1080p and probably your fps will double, even if it looks like kitten on a 1440p monitor.

It doesnt help that mac performances are worse now than they were 1 year ago.

There just needs to be dedicated dueling areas, I suggested they use the old Lion’s Arch courtyard and turn it into an arena, it is already 1/2 way there anyways.

The area with the sand is already set up with a confined area + a gate, and on the opposite side of the piazza is an area that could be turned into the exact same thing.

Dude they just need to add a check-box “Accept dueling invitation” ON-OFF. It’s called programming.

The problem is that Anet is treating SAB like it is living story content (thus removing it from the game once it’s out for a few weeks) while in fact it isn’t living story content according to their own admission.

Blinded by the ideology of temporary content during the living story season 1 they have removed content that should have remained permanent.

If I were them and I had a thread like this on my forum reaching near 100000 views, near 50 pages and near 2500 replies, I would take a hint and release the past SAB content without hesitation. Specially since (1) they are losing players because of the lack of new content and (2) because they sold an item related to that content.

Just wondering, why doesn’t Anet allow people to run their custom gear in a separate PvP queue?

The stats combination potential is much more interesting with our own gear than when using an amulet that only has 3-4 stats.

Is starting to look an awful lot like an Arena…

The area with the Vista looks like a staging/starting area, and the center is cleared out.

What if we saw the gladiatorial arena from the GW books come back?! And we could have grand brawls in the center in Lion’s Arch for players to bet on!

They have cleared out nearby housing etc. around the outside and can build raised areas around the perimeter for players to watch the battles, pathways around the main level around the area could be made for passers by.

As a competitive game the stealth bugs and WvW bugs are a massive failure. It’s totally unacceptable. Then again, I stopped caring about PPT about 2 years ago.

It’s not just pvp, WvW hasn’t had anything new in over a year beside colored tags and an annoying siege disabler. PvE hasn’t seen new dungeons since the last fractal update years ago.

I think we shouldn’t expect anything new until the expansion is out.

Sword could by all means be a long range weapon for Ele. It’s magic, ain’t gotta explain kitten.

Hopefully sword for ele is 1900 range pewpew that does 18k damage rolling your face on the keyboard, like the ranger.

The meta are the safest builds for the bad to average players (also working with good players obviously), but they are not the best builds or the only good builds by far.

Running something unpredictable has a clear advantage specially if you practice and master your own build.

Also the meta is made for PPT in mind mostly, actual fighting is not the focus of the meta. Some people play games to fight and test their skills, not sit on points.

That’s a quite terrible post, I have to say..

Metas exist in all games with some form of competitive play, be it hardcore (Starcraft, pretty much any fighting game,…) or more casual (mobas, gw2, hearthstone,..) It is, simply put, the most efficient way of winning the game, by the strict definition of it, without adding those virtual “rules of honor” that say people playing “high risk high reward” builds are more deserving and people that don’t and stick to what’s refered to as “metagame”, are playing safer or are simply lesser players.
The people making those statements are called, so-to-speak, “scrubs” (refer to “Playing to win”, by David Sirlin).

As a result, any player that is willing to WIN THE GAME, hence in this case, reaching 500 points before the ennemy, will play something that is tailored for that purpose : On point brawling, skirmishing, mobility, etc.

So, by not playing what’s commonly accepted as “meta”, you’re generally dragging your team down. Now, you might experiment something with potential, or just play a far more fun spec, everyone does it. But no amount of “skill” will outweight that same amount put into playing something optimal, nor will a “surprise factor” that you might gain throughout the first 30 seconds of a match. Meta has nothing to do with playing safe, it has all to do with efficiency.

Let’s be clear, in the end, it’s only a game, and fairly casual at that. But you pretending one thing and its opposite is just non-sensical and fairly hypocrit.

Dude people that have about 4000-5000 hours on their main class were playing the meta long before it became the “meta”. It’s usually the most obvious build one can think off.

Builds similar to build I made for myself are played by more and more people, it could well become the meta with time, or something else could for all I know. One thing is certain the current meta is about to change completly.

For what concerns my playing instead of dancing on a point in 1v1s for 1-2 minutes until someone comes to help you I can actually kill medi guard, thieves and mesmers in under 10-20 seconds and get the job done. I’ve fine-tuned my dps and survivability to my style and yes in a certain way my build is anti-Meta. I do know the weakness of my own build but in most situation my build has been more productive for the global PPT than the Meta I was running 6 months ago.

What I was saying is that generally the Meta has PPT in mind above fighting, but it doesn’t mean that winning fights with another build doesn’t help with PPT.

It’s all nice but where is the FUN? Isn’t GW a game somewhere, that people play for fun?

It is not nice when there is no Fun to play against this profession. GW should be a game somewhere, that people play for fun but it is not. That is why change-challenge must be enforce to make it happen.

Challenge can not exist without Fun: can not separated at all. If anyone Dare break them apart: will only result in sever punishment and sever consequence.

The evidence is everywhere and will continue to spread without no control. Arena net sales and popularity is not improving: it is sever decreasing because of this.

The only way for Arena net to redemption is to surrender to challenge and enforce it.

Here are the list of Profession that are in sever Violation of Challenge and must be enforced for Fun and Challenge to be harmony together.

Ranger, Elementalist, Thief and Engineer.

When Enforcement of Challenge is Enforced: than you can say the word Fun.

My brain had a seizure reading this, but I get the point, that balance of the professions is key to competitive, and fun gameplay.

The problem with the premise of your argument though is that you determine what is fun, whereas someone else’s definition may be different. Eles do not DOMINATE any game mode, they’re decent to good in most, but are not the overpowering, destructive force you allude to.

And really, its not even a problem. The Ele (and Engineer) are the most difficult professions to play, and if they are played skillfully SHOULD reward the player with consistent victory. Otherwise, you’re punishing players who would pick those professions so that scrubs who noobcannon their way through the game with Warriors and Guardians can feel good about crushing Scholars.

Where is “Fun”?

Server transfer costs don't make sense

Transfers are free in other games, Anet needs to justify why we have to pay in their game. It’s not like we get anything out of it.

Tranfer also cost in other games. Your making a hallow point.

What do they need to justify to you? They previously had free transfers and the community spammed the forums with demands to add a fee because many were upset that the masses were transferring in and out of the server around them.

I am baffled by your claims that anyone owes you an explaination. As it has already been explained at least once in this very thread.

Changing servers is Free in ESO. It’s just time-gated. You can also guest to other WvW servers too in that game any time you want. Having my money taken and get nothing in exchange it’s really not something I appreciate. Anyway charging for transfer fees is a 1990s idea based on prehistoric limitations, in 2015 companies pay for bandwidth usage: if you download 1GB on a server or on another server it doesn’t cost ANET more money.

And I certainly don’t see why I would have to pay because they can’t find a way balance their game PvP population.

Really? Mesmers can do nothing? How about having a small army walling you off from your opponent at all times? Or, invulnerability on every single build, or how about the second largest amount of both invisibility and evasion?

When they designed GW2 some brilliant designer decided that immobilize would not stack…. Then about 1 year down the road, another designer, certainly not as brilliant as the initial designer, decided that people not able to move for 20 seconds was “no problem at all” and that immobilize could stack.

Thus the current perma-immobilize stacking was introduced in the game, against strong opposition on the forum, including my warnings, that were ignored by the developers as usual.

Wow. Savior complex much? You and a few other people on the forums complained, that must mean you’re some kind of Godsend. It doesn’t matter that there was just as much support on the forums for the changes, or that the forums are an infinitesimally small portion of the playerbase that in no way represents the opinions of the majority.

The game is better off for the immobilize changes, it now rewards a coordinated team effort, a specialization in disabling conditions, or just superior numbers, instead of punishing all that and any strategic use it as it originally did.

And ratio of conditions to condition clearing is a problem the whole game over regardless of the condition type, the class, or the game mode. My elementalist has one build path that, the if he doesn’t take, he is almost guaranteed to die to any condition build under any circumstance. And most classes are presented with similar choices, or no choice at all.

Plus, there are two 4s immobilizes in the game, and one is flurry, a melee skill that also immobilizes the caster, not even counting that one. The other is Bola, and the majority of the remaining aren’t even 3, but 2 or 1s duration.

So, even assuming you have 100% condition duration, which isn’t even possible in PvP since it requires food and wrench buffs, and taking in to account the fact that immobilize only stacks three times, that would mean the only way you could possibly be immobilized for 20 seconds would be if three warriors simultaneously pegged you with the Bola skill. The majority of the time immobilizes, even stacked in threes, max out at 4-6 seconds. And if you are being focused by three or more different opponents, logically you should be at a heavy disadvantage.

I don’t think your numbers are right. With my ele I can immob people 7-8 seconds in pvp using signet and skill and I’m not even using condi duration runes, when they get up I can knock them down twice, then I can chill them for another huge amount of seconds.

Before if someone else applied immobilize it simply reapplied it with the new duration, now it stacks up to 20+ seconds. It’s completely broken, 2-3 players can prevent someone from moving or fighting back if they chain their immob and cc properly (and doing that has become too easy). When in your game people cannot even move or fight back, then it’s really not a step forward. Stacking immob favors people ganking 3v2 or 2v1.

There is just too much CCs now in this game: now with “slow” and Reaper perma chill things wont improve, it’s just going to get more and more frustrating to play, and basically like every other MMO where you just get locked down and spiked.

Since Guild Halls were announced for HoT I figured that some kind of gvg arena would be included in this package. Guilds could have a controlled arena for later scale battles complete with spectate mode as part of their hall. It would be a beautiful way to build guild identity and community and to cut down on the problems in OS like trolling.

It may be totally impractical but that’s what I looked forward to and hoped for.

Yes well hopefully they did do the Guild Halls according to the Guild Hall CDI, so we will get to fight in them, or at least duel.

Considering that it is called Tempest and that in artistic/literature works that title has been used to describe storms of epic magnitude I would imagine that we are getting some AoE/dps utility skills that work in synergy with the sword. Now if only they could increase the AoE cap on the elementalist.

Issues with current Necros:

5. low DPS

lol yeah sure, like spamming 6.5k deathly claws all over the place and your wells aren’t the best source of dps in the game.

Lava font? Ice Storm? Meteor Shower? Glyph of Storms?

These are aoe skills that do about 33%-50% less damage per target than the necro counterpart. They also do not apply condis.
